In the tougher dungeons, enemies will shred tanky builds up just as fast as glass cannon builds. If you want to survive, you’re just gonna have to learn how to dodge well.
Your best bet would be to go full glass cannon in both traits and gear. Dodge well, and everything will be ok. Warriors don’t have what it takes to be a great support or control, unfortunately.
You’re playing it wrong.
That’s not a very convincing argument.

an sorry but i LOLED so hard on this troll post warriors are the second best after guardians as far as support. who else offers on direct heals and 100% regen and condition removal with multiple utilitys lol.
Heals are always nice to have, but rarely worth building towards. The amount healed is just too small compared to the damage you take. Condition removal is almost completely unnecessary in the hardest dungeons, because conditions become somewhat rare.
The best kinds of support would be protection and projectile blocking/reflection. Warrior offers none of that, aside from one shield trait that only effects the warrior itself. Healing is not very helpful in Arah and high level fractals.

Full berserker’s or full knight’s, both gear and trinkets.
I’d suggest getting both, starting with knight’s. Full berserker’s is much more difficult to do well with.
Divinity/ruby orbs for runes.
I can’t remember the last time yak’s have tried to attack TC in the past few weeks. We gave up on first a long time ago. I’m guessing it’s the same for FA.
With what’s happening right now, that misconception is about to get a lot worse.
For the last 8+ hours, team chat has been filled with people thinking there is some kind of alliance going on. Whether it’s true or not, more and more people are believing that there is.

Yes, lets make every Fractal a horrid armor repair grind, just like the old dungeons!
People are having way too much fun right now. I suggest we add Lupicus as a final boss to every Fractal to effectively stomp out all that cheer. If you’re continously dying more than 1-2 times during lupi’s fight, you really need to improve. Besides, he’s one of the few fun encounters in the game.
Right.
I have to admit I love the idea even if it does not make sense just because I love this boss :
- it is fun
- it is impressive
- when you die you don’t shout : Geez this guy has too much damage and whatnot.
- actually the only boss I find challenging and very well made
This.
Normally i wouldn’t support reusing bosses, but Lupicus needs more love! Easily the best boss in the game.
What anet should do is reduce the physical damage he does with his attacks, but have them cause agony to compensate. The result is the boss is easier than the Arah fight if you have high agony resist, and about the same/harder if you do not. Makes for a nice skill based fight, rather than a gear check like jaw maw.
Maybe have kohler be a boss only early on too. Some players need a reminder that the dodge button exists.
And since i know the creator of the aquatic fractal frequents these forums…
I’m going to suggest remaking the aquatic fractal using https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nybmygtLiKE for your inspiration.
Jade Maw? Pft. My grandmother could beat him. And she’s dead!
Fractals need a real man’s boss!
Vote Giganticus Lupicus boss of fractals 2012!
And what if nobody in your party has agony resist due to bad luck?
Agony is not a skill based mechanic. The only source of agony that anyone actually cares about is the Jade Maw’s agony, which can’t be dodged.
Fractals tend to give nice items like charged cores on top of rares. These can be sold for lots of money, which can be used to buy exotics. Probably faster to buy the exotics with gold than money, aside from really expensive ones like swords. They also provide ascended back pieces and rings, of course, which cannot be gotten anywhere else.
The game encourages finding a main group only because the normal grouping system is horrid.
Having run arah explorable a ton, as well as high level fractals, and tried many different builds, i can say there are a lot of viable builds especially at easier dungeons.
Eventually, berserker’s stands out among the rest though. It’s similar to many tough action games with mostly avoidable damage. When enemies hit so hard it makes your defense almost useless, you don’t get more defense, you give it up for even more attack power.
WvW is different. You simply cannot expect to avoid most damage. You also can’t expect to survive indefinitely on the frontlines, even with full tank gear. So how much tankiness you have is directly related to how long you can stay on the frontlines before having to retreat, and thus how much damage you can put out. Just keep burst damage in mind if killing is your focus though.
Glass cannon IS “just enough” survivability in PvE.
1. Guardians, along with warriors, are considered the best classes by speed clearers.
2. Don’t know about sPvP, but Guardians still have a huge impact on the tPvP meta due to bunker builds. So yea, they are one of the top classes here too.
3. They don’t seem to have anything special going for them in WvW, aside from having no decent ranged option. Class balance isn’t really discussed much in WvW compared to PvE and PvP, but i’d say average or below average.
Why longbow over rifle for fights like lupicus?
Viable, but not optimal.
What i would do is use sword+warhorn for my 2nd weapon slot just for the mobility. Make sure to turn autotarget off.
Evasive Arcana: This trait no longer creates unintended blast finishers.
So it WAS a bug..
If anything, there should be MORE PvE in WvWvW.
Seriously what’s with these level 80 doe everywhere? It’s a battleground! You don’t find deer on a battleground. It takes away from the sense of immersion! Only very powerful monsters would stick around.
So i have some simple suggestions for ANET:
1. Replace all doe with champion icebrood wolves
2. Replace all critters with giganticus lupicus
3. Make underwater look like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCWNA-T-r6Y
warriors are op
this one warrior ran up to me and started swinging his sword super fast and killed me in 2 second wtf nerf
to OP:
I’d recommend going full berserker’s for gear, and going 10/0/30/30/0. For your weapons, have a scepter+focus for range, and carry both a greatsword and hammer for melee. Switch between the greatsword and hammer as you see fit.
The build provides you with AH to offset the lack of toughness on your armor, and good support for your teammates via honor traits. The best support you can give would be hammer using the symbols are larger+last longer trait, which can give near permanent protection for you and any nearby allies.
As you improve, you’ll want to get rid of the valor traits. Once you can do CoE with no issues, try a build like 15/25/0/30/0 or 20/25/0/20/5. This provides you with more damage at the cost of a decent amount of survivability, but you should not need that crutch by the time you switch to that build. Also, if it’s your first time doing Arah explorable, you may want to use 10/25/5/30/0 instead. The extra aegis may save you during the fight with giganticus lupicus.
To OP:
A lot of people go through the phase where they feel melee is not useful in WvWvW. And since Guardians really have no ranged option, that makes the whole class seem useless.
But they always find a way to make things work out in the end.
For starters, i might try an offensive build revolving around meditations using GS or sword/whatever. This will address the mobility issue you are having somewhat.
Yea i’ve done groups with more tanky setups. I have even ran tanky setups myself.
It’s noticeably more difficult. It’s not very noticeable in the easier dungeons, but very noticeable in Arah. The tankiness is not enough to save you, and enemies take longer to kill. All the hardest PvE challenges in this game are currently a matter of dodging and/or killing the enemy before you mess up.
Currently, tanky builds get LESS useful as the difficulty progresses. This may be the case in the new dungeon too.
That said, i do greatly appreciate certain support builds. For example, Guardians can give perma protection without sacrificing much damage, and elementalists can give perma protection, fury, and swiftness with an aura build.

No, warrior tanks are not very popular.
In PvE, tanks in general are not popular. Dungeons are easy enough that speed clearers will use 5 glass cannons and still have no issues with survivability.
In PvP, warriors tanks are definitely outclassed by Guardian tanks. This may change soon though, as guardian tanks are considered to have a huge negative impact on the competitive meta.
No, you cannot be a tank or healer like in WoW.
Yes, some builds do have a lot more support or tankability than others. However, the main role of everyone is still damage.
At the moment, support specs can make a pretty big difference by providing constant buffs. It’s not really worth gearing for, but it is definitely worth traiting for. Tanks are good at increasing your survivability, but a very good group won’t benefit from them.
If you are looking for a good support class, Ele is considered by many the best overall. If you are strictly talking about PvE though, speed clearers tend to prefer Guardians. They can provide great support without sacrificing too much damage.

mmm… i’ve had success with glass cannon warrior myself in WvWvW. Unfortunately, it requires playing almost like a thief. Hardly something you’d want to do as a commander!
I myself use full knight’s on armor and jewels with berserker’s weapons. Axe+mace and either sword+shield or rifle for weapons. Bull’s charge, endure pain, and frenzy for traits.
anyways..
1: runes. Up to you. I personally think your best bet would be divinity. I’m too cheap so i use ruby orbs instead. Soldier’s would definitely be the best if you used shouts, but you probably won’t get many kills without a utility skill build revolving around frenzy.
2. traits. auto balanced stance is amazing for builds that don’t have it on their utility skill bar. auto endure pain is nice too, even with endure pain on your bar. So 20 or 30 in defense, and the rest of your traits go into the typical DPS traits.
3. Greatsword is absolutely amazing if you have the dps required to burn someone down with one frenzied hundred blades. The high mobility can get you out of combat and somewhere safe afterwards. If you lack that high damage like i do, then i would skip on the greatsword though. Try out the axe+mace, mace+mace, or hammer. The knockdown makes up for the lack of DPS by giving you more free time to pummel your enemy before they get a chance to escape. Sword+shield is a good secondary set due to the high mobility+shield stance. Rifle is also a good secondary set for obvious reasons.
Ok
I’ve tried almost every possible build in PvE, gotten dungeon master, and run arah a kittenon of times.
My experience in PvP is a lot less, but i’ve tried a few different builds out and seen what the pros run.
So here’s my opinion…
In PvE, it’s all about the greatsword or axe+mace and rifle. Yea you can use anything technically, but those are the best and there’s little reason to use the others due to the nature of PvE(lots of enemies resisting stun, little mobility involved in fights, etc…)
PvP is alot more varied. Yes, your standard tPvP warrior will use greatsword+axe/shield. However, the other weapon sets are still viable, and there’s actual reasons to use them unlike PvE.
Guardians are still one of the top PvE classes. They can afford to be nerfed.
Go full berserker’s. The faster he dies, the less chances your team has to screw up.When it comes to taking hits, warriors already have it pretty kitten good with their default armor and vit.
Primary weapon should be a rifle. Secondary should be whatever/warhorn or greatsword with a superior sigil of energy. Endure pain and Signet of Stamina should be on your utility skill bar.
Green squiggly autoattack: stay at least a moderate distance away from the boss, then alternate between pressing q and e(or a and d if you are holding mouse 2.) If you are doing this, the projectile will miss without you having to waste endurance. If you aren’t sure if it will miss, be safe and use a dodge.
Red circle AoE: Start backing away. Wait for the sound the green squigglies make when they are close, then dodge. Simply trying to avoid the red circles will often end up in you getting hit by a stray projectile.
Phasewalk: Easy enough to avoid. If he’s focusing you with this move, stay near the wall and move around it in a circle. Controlling his position like this will make it 10 times easier for your teammates.
Green bubble: When he gets close in phase 3, watch his feet. If you see him raise his foot, dodge away from him.

Well, we could’ve used an invisibility circle instead i guess.
but forcing groups to bring certain classes should not be the answer either.
My pug groups have also just brute forced the 1st boss down with high DPS, then jumped in the lava and waited for the minions to despawn.
Then you simply run to the 2nd boss. Sit by the gate and you won’t aggro the adds. Adds will only follow you to the 2nd boss if you aggro them too close to the boss. If this happens, you just start running back the way you came until you lose aggro, wait a few seconds, then attempt to run to the boss again.
…lupicus can’t 1 shot glass cannons either. Not even close.
Healing shouts won’t help too much in Arah. Your best friends are projectile reflection and high damage.
I think a healing shout build might work well in pugs for “tanking” lupicus on paths 1-3. He tends to phasewalk the players with the highest toughness. Having him always phasewalk you would let you control his position and make it easier for your allies. But if you are new to Arah, you do NOT want lupicus to turn his attention to you.
I copy and pasted the build but it says you use greatsword as a secondary, not double axe.
What do you plan on using this build for?
Berserker’s is great. In the hardest PvE content in the game, taking hits is just simply not an option, and killing the enemy quickly gives you less time to screw up.
Your gear setup is good though(maybe knights would be better than PVT for armor..), but I think your trait setup could be better. Try something like 25/25/0/10/10 for glass cannon, or 20/25/15/0/10(maybe stick 10 points into tactics from somewhere) for adrenal health.
edit: i’m referring to the OP btw
I would try switching around the 30 points in tactics for 30 points in discipline. You lose healing shouts, but gain mobile strikes and a cheaper burst attack. Just think of being able to stun more as increasing your effective HP.
1. Keep the rifle. As for your melee weapon, anything works. There is a reason greatsword is so popular though. The might on crit leads to some very high damage, and whirling attack provides an extra dodge. Using other weapon setups won’t significantly increase your survivability.
2. For survivability, the most important traits are adrenal health and healing shouts.
Start with something like (least survivability)20/25/15/0/10, 20/20/0/30/0, or 0/25/15/30/0(most survivability).
As you progress in dungeons, health regen becomes less effective and dodging becomes more important. Once you start doing CoE and Arah, switch to something like 20/30/0/0/20(most damage with weapon swap), 30/30/0/0/10(more damage, no weapon swap), or 20/30/0/10/10(traited elite banner)
3. Depends on the fight.
FGJ should be on your bar for most or all fights.
Signet of Stamina provide significant endurance regen.
Shake it Off is useful if conditions are an issue.
Endure Pain is good for taking extra hits, or for allowing you to make an extra mistake.
On My Mark is good for when you dont need anything else.
For the elites, both Signet of Rage and the elite banner are great.
4. Start with masterwork knights, with an exotic berserker weapon.. Replace with exotic as you can. Skip rare. Just don’t do Arah until you are in full or almost full exotics. Replace knights with berserker’s as you feel more comfortable with your survivability.
a. Masterwork is pretty cheap. Buy masterwork first.
b. Probably. Not sure.
c. Probably nothing.
5. No disadvantages that i can think of.
Do you really want to group with people that only accept certain classes into their party? They are doing you a favor if anything.
And i do not see people asking for certain classes. However, i have not done easier instances like AC and TA in a long time so i would not know what it is like. I mostly stick to CoE and Arah.
Extremely good points and sorry for being so brief. Here where I am, there is no acces to computers and I have to work my build with my phone. You pointed out exactly the things I was unsure of and I agree with changing revenge of the fallen to fiery wrath and also using staff as my secondary weapon. Taking 10 points from honor is another thing. I don’tthink it would be wise since empowerement is also a support skill and offers constant might to me and my allies. Also the minor gives more dmg when I’m low on endurance. Radiants 2nd tier doesn’t really offer me anything so basically I would be changing 2 good traits for only 1 good trait. Zeal line also provides me power in which I’m focused on.
You would be losing two handed mastery, not empowering might.
His build is fine. I go with even less survivability and manage to stay alive.
If you want to be more tanky for dungeons, buy knight’s gear. Start with masterwork(very cheap) and upgrade to exotic as you get the money. Consider taking 5 points out of arms and 10 points out of discipline and putting it into defense for adrenal health. Learn to watch enemy animations and dodge well. Use signet of stamina for its passive endurance regen. Use whirlwind attack as an extra dodge. Only use hundred blades if you won’t take a lot of damage during it. If you ever do arah explorable, make sure to bring a bowl of orian truffle and meat stew because giganticus lupicus will focus the hell out of you.
For WvW, start by turning off autotarget so you can use rush as an escape move. Aside from that, i’m not sure what the best choice would be if you want to stay in the frontlines. Knight’s isn’t gonna be enough. My guess would be power+toughness+vitality gear, with traits mostly in defense+strength and using hammer’s cc to end standoffs.
Too bad you got stuck at Simin. You would’ve found the last boss very satisfying
After the hot potato event, a new waypoint magically appears north of you, despite never getting anywhere close to the wp. You can teleport to it, clear the enemies there, and it’ll open a shortcut to giganticus.
Definitely switch out revenge of the fallen for fiery wrath.
I would take 10 points out of honor and put them in radiance. Radiant Power is another 10% damage. Ditch two handed mastery for it.
For utility skills i would also consider hold the line and signet of judgement. Signet of judgement is a 10% reduction to damage which is pretty nice. Might wanna run tome of courage instead of wrath too. The spells on courage seem much more impressive.
Base armor is viable in PvE, even Arah. Might wanna try out knights until you are comfortable with full berserker’s though.
He’s SUPPOSED to spawn adds. Him not spawning adds is a common bug that has been around for a while.
And they might not have fixed it. You could’ve just gotten unlucky.
I know AC and HotW offer power/toughness/vitality
but I suggest knight’s gear instead too. Warriors already get a huge health pool. Even more health would just allow more room for dodging mistakes. However, more damage means less time spent fighting the enemy, which means less time where you or your party could make a mistake.
Arah can only be done in a decent time by skipping most of the trash. Which most people don’t enjoy fighting anyways.
Rather than increase the rewards, it would be nice if they just got rid of a lot of the trash.
Glass cannons in general often take dirt.
Yes, they are viable at higher levels. There is no PvE content in this game that a glass cannon warrior can’t do well in.
Many enemies prefer to target players with more armor over players with less. Due to the warrior’s high base armor, even glass cannons get targetted a lot. Your friend needs to focus more on dodging, and less on getting 100 blades off, or he’s going to go down a lot.
That’s odd. My group had very poor DPS. If we didn’t have any problems, nobody should.
Maybe there’s a bug involved here?
