Too many rangers using bows and too many rangers that cannot control pets. If I was seeing spotter and frost spirit around, I would be ecstatic, but I have literally never run into a pug ranger using those

So basically, because people want to play the way they like, they are kicked from group…lol

Would like to see how you would react if your class were kittened as hell in gameplay with one build but you needed this build to perform in the game while other class can perform the way they want…

Don’t you find funny that the problems eplained in this video are exactly the same as actually and still aren’t corrected? more than one year after? Look at the text saying how JonPeters said exactly the same things as actually….so who even gonna have faith in him anyway now?

In one year i didn’t do anything for our class, arguing it’s more complicated than any other class, still warriors get buffed as hell, even mesmer who was nearly not played at start got massive buffs/fix and is one of the most competitive class now…

Just for your information, Ranger Traps CD are much shorter than Necro Wells, Flame trap is 15sec CD, 12sec traited…

And? it makes traps more useful than wells? i don’t think so, because if it was, you would see more groups in WvWvW wanting Ranger with them.

And actually it’s by far not the case, at least on high ranked WvWvW servers who play in organised zergs/groups

@Gorwald, you do realize trapper builds are one of our best builds atm right? It’s an insanely strong home point defender, and can bring quite a bit to a team fight in terms of AoE pressure and area denial as well.

As someone else said all you need to make ranger strong in wading through zergs is to pair them with a guardian and/or warrior who can give them some stability or be a signet ranger and also use enlargement.

My Necro Wells build > largely any traper build of rangers.

Did traps give protection to people inside? Wells do
Did traps heal the ranger on each tick? Wells do
Did traps can crit? Wells do
Did traps can remove conditions of friends teammates? Wells do
Did traps can remove buffs of ennemies? Wells do
Did traps can blind? Wells do
Did traps can be effective while spreading points in trees? No traps need 30 points in preci/%crit damage to be effective (lol), wells are effective and you can spread points in differents lines to have passive bonus to them

Sorry to dissapoint you…but wells > traps

And saying that to be effective you have to pair with a warrior or a guardian…lol

Warrior btw give stability with elite banner, i really doubt any warrior whould break an instant rez just to give stability to a ranger….or it’s a really dumb warrior

And to have stability as a ranger you choice Rampage as one or a signet who need 30 point in a trait line to affect you…lol

Really? One word : root…

Well you still can hope you passive conditional removal will work (if your pet is alive) or fire you 60 sec non traited signet to cure it (if your pet is alive) or burn your heal just to cure a root or have your brown bear to cure it (if F2 will fire)

But yeah, Ranger shine in solo/roaming and as developpers said in 2v2 arenas and PVE…whohooo

Sorry for the buddies who liked to play ranger as stated in the guildwars 2 website master of longbow, traps you just can’t decently compared to others class, please stick to spirits since developpers continue to think it’s the best build for the ranger (aka Water spirit)

An example of what a ranger can do in WvW is: run in the middle of a group of enemies, pop signet of stone, whirling defense on them, wolf howl for fear, healing spring then lightning reflexes out and kite the mob, which is a very good way to open the door to a zerg vs zerg fight. You can compare this to a warrior using endure pain and using whirling strike, then using fear me and shake it off if he gets into condition damage problems.

I loled…seriously? One fear/stun/daze and you nice theory goes blow up….and a ranger who go in melee like this even with signet of stone, get nearly insta killed by conditions…yeah ranger don’t have conditions removal since the pets while you rush in the middle of the zerg is allready dead….

And if you go to melee with hight toughness and vitality to trying to survive the people gonna laugh at your whirling defense…

As you said, the warrior can count on shake it off, the ranger no way can count on anything than a dead pet….

Oh and the warrior can move while whirling defense is static….nice to be focused by necros wells, nullfield, and such good things…

Rangers are not a bad class, there are tons of ranger hate out there that you will hear, but this spawned by all the new rangers that people constantly create.

Yeah…it’s not like Jon peters himself admitted all the flaws in rangers traits and pets completly broken…it’s all about the “new rangers” hate sigh

A new ranger will most always choose a super DPS build, based on their PvE experience which is always positive for most if not all rangers. Then comes the end game content, level 80 experiences in dungeons, pvp and wvw will quickly slap a ranger in the face: you are too squishy!

I have like 6 or 7 sets of armors/weapons in my bank/bags for my ranger, with nearly all possible stats. offcourse you won’t play a ranger in WvWvW the same way as in PVE and you need to be more resistant.

Problem is : to be resistant you have to pull off in deep trees with nature magic and survivability, focus on vitality/toughness and so you go with a kittenty dps but yeah, you can resist..whohoo…

With my necromancer i hit 27k hp, 1800 toughness and i AOE for 2k more on 5 peeps with regen and heal on each hits….

With my warrior i got 25K hp 3k+ armor and a kitten dps with hammer/sword

With my guardian i got 20K hp 3500 armor regen + buffs and i hit for a good dps specially on greasword in AOE too

With my mesmer i have like 24k hp 1800 toughness and i hit for 4k on greatsword phantasm…

So yeah….you can survive as a ranger an being completly useless in DPS while other class can survive too and blast you away…

While most people want to pew pew pew super criticals arrow shower everywhere from far away, they never adapt. Rangers are most definitely more than a pew pew profession. You need to realize this quick, learn to fight as a melee player as well, learn all about how to kill just by traiting to use condition damage, learn how to kill by traiting only to survive and let your pet do the big damage.

So you tell people to learn to use their pet? the things Jon peters say it’s completly broken right?? lot of fun to read that when you say the complaints come from newbies rangers….

All in all, ranger is and has been by far the most difficult profession to master.

It’s the most difficult to master because, compared to other class, you need to build in ONE way (regen/bunker/condi build) to be able to do something in WvWvW and you’re nearly useless to a group because other class who have better dps/resistance can do that too…

This is why there are not many good rangers out there. If you don’t like the play style you will move onto another profession. Some people will hate the ranger on their way out of the ranger, which is a mistake. If you like the play style and work your way to perfecting it, you will be very loved everywhere you go. It is true, even in the highly competitive world of wvw, guilds don’t like rangers because there aren’t many good enough to provide what guilds need out there.

Again this part is fun as hell…there is no good rangers out there because the class is utterly broken, pet IA is a mess and rangers doesn’t provide anything to a group (except maybe waterfield) than another class can do with better dps/survivability.

But don’t let that discourage you, here in the forums you will find the help you need if you ask, there are strong rangers who will help you in need. At the beginning of it all we all helped each other become strong rangers; nowadays all this information is available to you.

Yeah any regen/bunker/condi build will make him a good solo/roaming ranger in WvWvW, except that he won’t do anything interesting and still be limited to one role in this style of play.

Rangers complaining do it because of this limited role and a class specificity completly broken (pet)

What about deathshroud for necros completly broken? or rage for warriors? or buffs for guardians? or affinities for elems? or phantasms for mesmers?

I remember the time where phantasm for mesmer was broken as hell (we can heavily focus the mesmer and don’t be stressed by phantasm) it was corrected fast and nicely…

Rangers mechanism are still broken for 1 year….

Allready have this idea, i’m pretty sure it was allready stated to the dev.

But the dev don’t care and don’t follow this forum, look at the thread started by jon peters, when he have seen that he goes in troubles when rangers community ask for real changes, he vanished….

There is a LOT of ideas to boost ranger :

- rapid fire is become a charging skill (like F1 rifle for warrior) : does massive damage but people can evade it
- change the KB of LB with a cripple or a root (like LB for warrior)
- remove the distance debuff from lb (any class can close the gap instantly with charge, tp, etc…)
- SB don’t have to be positionnal to be effective !
- increase range of shortbow and damage
- spirits become buffs for 5 people in your group ou can call of (spirit of fire, nature etc..), with the same stats but are not anymore stupid pets who die instantly in WvWvW (look at the kitten buffs Rangers in Neverwinter Online can have ! )
- weapons damage is increased to become as good as others class
- traps are revamped to be effective like wells of necros and so you can become a real trapers
- pet is not anymore a necessity to become viable as a ranger but more an option, like GW1 !

Ecept you stay in a tower at 1500 distance with an immobile other player, no there is really no way to play a power ranger in WvWvW.

I’m like you, i’ve around 7 exotics sets with every combo possible, but i want to play my ranger as a big delaer from distance and there is no way to do that without being destroyed nearly by any other class faster than you breath

Better : GW1 = multiple builds (interrupt, evade, runner, traper, beastmaster, condi…)

Worse : GW2 = nothing except stupid IA spirits/pets

Again with the silly idea that “ranger” comes from “to use ranged weapons”. rolly eyes

On topic, I always loved playing a beastmaster in Diablo II. It could never work in GW2, other than as a necro. But it fixed basically all AI problems by you just on-demand summoning whatever you wanted wherever you wanted.

Worse than, definitely Diablo I. That ranger was awful haha.

Oh and btw, if you want to see a real ranger class and how it should be worked on, i suggest you to test the next module on neverwinter…the archer/ranger is awesome on it…

Archer is very different from ranger you know…
Ranger means more synergy with nature than bow-master…

Archer/Ranger on Neverwinter is on the nature spot more than GW2 one…

He have regen buffs, roots with entangle, nature buffs for friends (boar skin who reduce damage, fox buff who evade attacks, eagle buffs who enhance damage) and you can specialize in close combat/ranged attack/buffs for groups

In fact all we want in ranger GW2…and we don’t have

So let’s discuss traits…
Marksmanship – Power line?
I Steady focus : 10% damage when endurance is full, great for a power/bow user
II Malicious Training : Increase duration for conditions applied by your pet, don’t know if it’s working but I don’t see the interest in the power line, should be moved to beastmaster one
III Keen edge : sharpening stone at 75% enemy hp, should be moved to wilderness survival
IV Signet Mastery : reduce recharge on signets, well signets are a pain even with the recharge on it, should already lower the cooldown on signet of stone (80 sec not traited – 64 traited) / signet of renewal (60 not traited – 48 traited) / signet of the wild (60 not traited – 48 traited)
Signet of the wild should be instant too
V Predator instinct : cripple foes at 25% hp, don’t really see the interest in it
VI Beastmaster bond : nice, but not when your two pets are disabled for 1 min (1 min pet disabled +90 internal cooldown it’s like an elite skill)
VII Spotter : Increase precision of nearby allies, could be moved to adept
VIII Piercing arrows : this one should be merged with other traits, like quickdraw or eagle eye
IX Beastmaster might : nice but since the cooldown on signets are monstruous, it’s quite useless
X Eagle eye : as other traits linked to longbow/sortbow, should be merged with another one trait
XI Signet of beastmaster : Active effect of signet affect you….we are the only class to have this thing…need to trait a signet to be active on us while our pet is mainly disabled? Make it more like active effect of signets affect up to 5 friends and BAM we gonna have a real utility in group fights !
XII Remorseless : honestly? Useless trait, never used it at all…

Passive traits :
Opening strike? Ok
Alpha training? Ok but still don’t understand why our core functionality need to be a passive trait again to be affected
Precise strike : Ok

I’m not really impressed by this patch for rangers.

LB buff is ok, well even if i don’t see why we have a restriction on distance…

But the rest of traits are useless, in lines where i won’t give any points to get 4 sec cripple instead of piercing arrows/range/spotter or anything else more usefull…

50% reduction damage when you are at 25%hp, generally you’re allready dead at 25% hp

Spirits are good only for spvp/pve

Pets are still useless, not responsive, bad ia, bad animation, stand still for F2 and not according to stuff (ascended gear)

But yeah, as allways, promise (remember the awesome patch for ranger we never see?)

So you claim more build diversity but you adjust traits who are never used…and you still buff the spirits line who’s the only build you found in Spvp while in WvW it’s only bunker/regen/condi and nerf our endu regen… (some class have perma vigor on crit hits traits)

  • Long Range Shot. Increased the damage at 500 range by 20%.
  • Long Range Shot. Increased the damage at 500-1000 range by 15%.

Nice, while i still don’t see the interest of this restriction on distance since majority of fight you are in close combat in Spvp/WvW…

  • Marksmanship V – Predator’s Instinct. Increased the threshold from 25% to 50%. Increased the Cripple Duration from 2s to 10s. Increased the cooldown from 15s to 30s.

Who in hell gonna use this traits who’s in the same line of piercing arrows, spotter, eagle eyes, signet of the beastmaster or steady focus?

  • Marksmanship VI – Beastmaster’s Bond. Decreased the cooldown from 90s to 60s.

Same as precedent? who in hell gonna use this? Those traits are totally useless, specially when your pet is disabled for 1 minute long when you used your 2 slots

  • Skirmishing XII – Moment of Clarity. Stun Duration increased from 50% to 100%.

This traits utility is only for attack of opportunity, duration of daze and stun? our only weapons who stun are greatsword and shortbow (from behind lol)….mmmmkk

  • Wilderness 5 Natural Vigor. Reduced the increased endurance regeneration from 50% to 25%.

Nerf…hummmk since you don’t nerf guardian/elem one

  • Wilderness VIII – Oakheart Salve. Decreased the recharge of this trait from 20s->15s

Never used this trait and the cooldown to 15 sec won’t change that on the line where i can have empathic bonds, survival training, offhand training, martial mastery, shared anguish…well as you see an useless trait (even more when we can have a lot more ways to get regen)

  • Wilderness XII – Bark Skin Increased the damage reduction from 30% to 50%.

Nice, but when you’re at 25% life, generally you’re nearly dead….

  • Nature Magic I – Circle of Life. Cleared up the text of this trait to clearly identify that it happens when downed, not defeated.

Correction…

  • Nature Magic V – Strength of Spirit. Increased conversion from 5% to 7%

When you’re traited to vitality, you’re nearly not traited to dps….but more for support (regen/swiftness build) or bunker condi…

  • Nature Magic IX – Two Handed Training. Added the following functionality to this trait. Greatsword and Spear attacks have a chance to grant Fury on hit. 50% chance. 3s Fury. 10s cooldown.

Nice, but don’t see the interest when we have allready lot more ways to have fury….(remember the traits you just changed before? beastmaster bond? lol)

  • Nature Magic X – Enlargement. This trait now uses Signet of the Wild to trigger. This reduces the cooldown to 60 seconds and allow it to interact with the Signet of the Beastmaster and Signet Mastery traits.

Don’t understand this trait, and while our pet is generally dead in fight before he can be even used, i don’t see the interest of this…

  • Nature Magic VII – Nature’s Vengeance. Moved to Grandmaster Tier.
  • Nature Magic XI – Spirits Unbound. Moved to Master Tier.

Switch to spirits, again the most build seen in spvp….spirits die too fast in WvW no one are using it

  • Beastmastery VI – Mighty Swap. The might from this trait is now applied to you and your pet.

Nice, even if i don’t even use this trait, you should have corrected master’s bond insetad, who disappear when you swap a pet and even when…tadam! you enter water….

  • Sun Spirit. Reduced the passive burning from 3s to 2s.
  • Storm Spirit. Reduced the damage from the Call Lightning skill by 33%.

Nerf to a build you pretend give more attention (swith to precedent traits remember?)

As said, spirits are only good in pve/spvp, other ways it’s useless due to their life….

Still no informations about pet IA, pet not scaling with stuff (ascended gear for example) , about 1h sword, the only class who root himslef with a weapon skill….no skill on move like whirling defense

You really need someone playing this class to find what are the flaws in it, and not only base your correction of % used or not in players characters….

- Structure defense : actually it’s so easy to get like 15/20 golems and destroy a full T3 structure if there is no scout sleeping in it…i remember the start of WvW where Golem was like a “omg he’s building a golem ! what the hell ! he must be rich !” Now it’s more : ok lets get 20 golems alphas and then 10 omega and we gonna crush every structures…

we did run with 2 ranger, 1 thief, 1 necro and 1 guard yesterday. killed every 10 ppl strong fotm guild groups (like 4x warrior, 3x guard, 2x ele, 1xmesmer/necro).

edit: axe mh skill 1 needs a buff, thats all.

i dont see the problem with ranger(remember ranger != archer).

So, basically, you’re saying that if we play only one style, we don’t have problem?

Because i’m quite sure the 2 rangers in your group were playing condi/bunkers ones as you stated than ranger!=archer…

And if ranger is not about archery/pet, i would like to know why in the artwork of Anet, they allways show with a bow and why they are saying that about the class :

Traps? even wells from necros does better jobs than this…specially when they’ve been nerfed now to 50% duration instead of “twice as long” duration…

i have 75% boon duration, 38% crit dmg, 60% crit chance, 1600power, 1200condition dmg, 600 healing power, 50% condition duration, 3 combo fields.on top 2900 armor an 20k hp + massive evade and easy 14sec protection uptime. when i ask my guild what class i should bring, warrior, guardian or ranger they always say ranger. for small scale wvw fights ( 3-10 ppl is our group size ) it is the stongest dmg/support compromise in gw2 for wvw.

/agree and i have a similar build, and i love it…but still for very small groups…it’s not really World versus World anymore…it’s more like GvG

I still don’t see the role of a ranger in large scale battle/defense who’s the core of Worlds versus Worlds

Warhorn is actually pretty good with a sigil of earth due to 16 rapid attacks…

Yup, but condi build are more oriented for roaming/solo, not really for big groups in WvWvW, so i still don’t see the interest to take a ranger with you, if he don’t give anything really interesting for his group…

Even for small groups roaming, if you are against heavy condi removers like guardians (even more with the patch), your kinda screwed with this setup

But well, can’t wait still to see the patchnotes

26/28 sec on my build fury uptime. so you are right. not perma fury

You need a stuff oriented to boons duration, so your dps will be very low, except if you play condition…like 90% of rangers in fact

You need the warhorn AND the red MOA, so yeah you can achieve great fury duration stack (can go to 1min+) but at what cost? Warhorn is not even condi weapon so you lost one slot for only a buff

And the red MOA need to be still to cast his shout and even with that, the most of time he’s too far away from you so you don’t get the buff…so yeah, nice we can get fury to our group whoohhooo let’s get the ranger in our group…

Or not…

i’m still waiting to see someone tell me : “hey get your ranger with us, wee need this classe !” instead of “ok, no take your guardian/warrior/necro pls”

Did anyone tried this? i’ve got it on my mind for quite a time now…i still wait for patchnotes to see changes on bear, because they said bear removing only one condition was not cool enough so we can have hope to see it changed today…

I’ve made so many test i can’t count it anymore, but all classes > rangers distance

I’ll trade shortbow of thief for mine…

For condi axe in main hand + dagger in second hand is enough for bleeding stacking than trying to position yourself flanking or behind target with shortbow…

Problem actually, it’s they said they buff the party interest in this patch for each class….i don’t see any interest in Ranger preview in fact….

Fern hound 1k heal…lol? Did you see the necro heal buff on deathshroud? cmon…

Buff in AOE for mantras mesmers, buffs in heal support for necros, buffs in AOE support again for guardians, buffs for elementalist i nearly all ways, buffs for warrior shouts in healing + last hammer skill cast in move now, buffs on engineer bomb/grenades, buffs on poisons for thief….

Did you see any interest to get a ranger in your group after this preview? me not

I’m the only one to have noticed they said bufff of 71% of HP in PVE and nothing for wvwvw or Pvp ?

Because in zerg and such pets/spirits still gonna die fast…

BTW i’m interested in stack duration of immobilize, because muddy terrain+stone spirit quicksand + entangle…can make a lot of sec of immobilize…

Need to see the patchnotes btw..

- One warrior hammer stomp and your spirits are dead
- One meteoric shower and your spirits are dead
- One barrage (lol) and your spirits are dead

In fact, any aoe, even if YOU dodge it, your spirits are nearly dead, like your pet, even with the traits.

Don’t see any real interest on those build in WvWvW, i better use regen/swiftness of shouts than this for a small group support (perma speed/regen).

BTW the buffs of spirits are on a internal cooldown of 10 sec so even if you proc the buff, it have to wait 10 seconds before it can proc again (75% chance traited) so basically, with chance, it can proc 6 times (60 sec stay) so with nof buffs in boons duration except the trait line, it proc prot for 3~3/4 sec…

The only interest i found in spirits are in Spvp and for the elite one, who can make a less interesting warrior banner

Tip of the day : dodge and our ultimate is as useful as…nothing

Personnaly i prefer muddy terrain other entangle : lower cooldown, root on start then snare.

Ranger with rifle is called engineer….i don’t see the ranger with a rifle, maybe with a two handed axe but not a rifle.

And Engineer have piercing shots without any trait to be spend in…

Last night, an heartseeker killed itself alone….Perplexity runes + shortbow

he got hit for 1700 for each heartseeker, it was fun as hell, i even did anything than just use 3 of bow and 1.

Even some mesmer get in fight to rez him and got killed too, he downed me but killed himself in return

It was a funny moment, sadly didn’t recorded it

The class is not “so terrible” and you can achieve well with it, but it require a lot more reflexion than some other.

The main problems of the ranger class is the pet totally broken and the traits who are for a lot useless…and the fact than others class can do better ranged damage than us.

When i see a thief on shortbow with me on shortbow, i cry…

- Trap potency and trapper expertise : why in the hell it’s in the line of preci/crit strike?
- Honed axe : it’s a weapon for conditions (2 for bleeds and 3 for chill only bounce is direct damage) and this trait gave 10% crit damage when using an axe in main hand? oO
- All the traits for pets in…the line for crit damage and preci…
etc….

There is a lot of wtf traits on ranger trees who don’t even give any interest to it. Even sadly, we are supposed to be the masters of long range combat with bows and we have only 3 traits for it…even a thief with shortbow do more damage than us with same weapon

Apoc Rangers with Shortbow

Personnaly, i play a condi ranger with the two bows….yes it’s strange but it works quite well on roaming, even on zerg with piercing arrows.

I play with runes of perplexity, it’s why i use the shortbow/longbow, for interrupt.

People don’t except the ranger to have confusion so they don’t take attention generally, and in zerg, getting confusion on a lot of people with barrage or piercing shot is quite fun.

Good armor, ok life, mix condi damage/regen life

Short bow is a good disengage weapon too, but the distance of back is not far enough, when you see the escape from thief….sigh

I use then 3 of longbow to disengage and eventually brain people with it (quite fun to do)

- F2 doesn’t trigger and when it does it takes so long than the target is away or our friends are too
- they just take damage and die fast except you take bear
- they have a so looooonnng recast except you spe beastmaster at 15 pts with 20 sec bonus
- the traits like “master bond” is so upper bugged than even when you enter water the pet loose the buff and you have to restart it again, same as you swith pet, buff disappear

entangle issue

Personnaly i don’t even use it anymore, i prefer using Muddy Terrain, shorter cooldown, root on cast and then snare….

And so i use rampage as one/spirit for banner rez like a warrior.

Entangle is so easily breakable, even a dodge can avoid it ! When it’s description it’s called “unblockable”

It’s only fun for people discovering www or in pve
