I see a few things like trait and scepter changes… I rolled a sword/focus and scepter/pistol build for pve dungeons/events before. I keep finding little changes…

How’s the mesmer doing these days?

(+1 for the kitten fine ideas above..)

1. More dungeons and specifically 5-man group content. Preferably, I’d like a new one with each living story chapter as a way to commemorate the completion of each.

2. A separate ‘luxuries market’ for precursors and skins that work on auction house rules including bid timers.

3. Reintroduction of Black Iron Key drops in game (not just completions) and general upgrade of “winnings” to include retired skins and sellable gem store items (at a low rate).

4. UI improvements to allow for better access to polymorphs/consumables (or at very least the ability to hotkey items in our inventory.)

5. New races and a new heavy armor class – The lack of given “roles” in this game should allow for a lot of freedom to make up new and interesting classes that don’t specifically have to “fit” in a group, but just play differently enough to warrant someone rolling the class over what’s already available. And the Largos shouldn’t require much armor update from what the sylvari wear (although backslots/weapons might be a challenge). The Tengu use the Charr model don’t they?

Most of what you’re complaining about is due to the way the players approach the game, not so much Anet outside of the Living Story events.

Players play by the systems the developers put in place.

So the systems are the problem – not the players approach.

Its a shared responsibility. You can blame the designer of the cement path for not understanding foot traffic patterns/human nature and you can blame the walkers for creating a dirt path from travelling a much more convenient way. It works both ways. The difference here is that one side is a “paying customer”. That should… probably mean a lot less than it does, but… human nature and all that.

Just play the game that’s fun. When this game stops being fun, stop playing it.

If you have another character in the vigil then I think you can trasnmute the armour to white items, put them in your bank and then use it on your norn.

Not sure, but it may work.

Yep. Have three characters, one in each and then just have them xmute what you need and send it over to your character of choice.

For all the key parts or stuff that is in no way useful anymore, I’d say they should just delete the items from the game, but for “flavor” items like Scarlet’s diary, I’d prefer they update the UI to hold them, like… in the depositables…. way way at the bottom

. I expect TESO to fail like SW:TOR due the fact that the game is mediocre in every way. Only the brand will sell 2-3 million copies until everybody realizes, how bad TESO as an MMORPG really

You do realize swtor isn’t a fail, right?
Last year alone it made well over twice as much money as gw2 did.

SW:TOR ist for sure a fail – or has been a fail. The cartel market is their cash cow releasing kittenty stuff like live day in a Star Wars universe. So yes, they are making money with their shop. That’s it. And you can’t even compare GW2 with SW:TOR in terms of quality despite GW2 is free2play and SW:TOR isn’t.

I think ANet is doing very well with their decisions of the b2p model. TESO will mostly fail because of the p2p AND the mediocre quality it delivers. P2P requires high quality, polishing and so on.

Sorry, it’s far from a fail.
And for the record gw2 isn’t f2p and swtor is f2p.

The game has been a fail from launch on. That it’s making a good revenue now because of micro transactions is not really what everybody wanted and suggested. You know the most expensive video game ever made sold roughly 2,5 million copies and went within the first year free to play. No, it’s a huge success.

I know SW:TOR is doing better now, but from a tremendous success it is VERY FAR away. In comparison, GW2 sold within 1,5 years 4 million units and they add something to the world every 2-4 weeks. And the LA event is a HUGE thing. Tell me how can ANet do something BioWare needed more than 1,5 years to do?

Sorry, we don’t have to talk about it. Guild Wars 2 is in terms of quality in every part superior to SW:TOR. But maybe it’s just the opinion of the “most”, not of everybody.

We’re missing the topic right now. I like Wildstar. But I doubt that GW2 has to be anxious about it.

@ Azreell

GW2 not on that list… you know why? Because it offers quite less crappy stuff like SW:TOR with their 10000 coloured mounts and their ugly equip. And their boxes because of which they make their revenues. Because of gambling.

It would help if you said something is good or bad based on a set standard. It helps people understand the framework for your opinion based on understood figures. Otherwise, your opinion just smells different than mine.

Well, it does that too. whew… Someone open a window!

I hope Wildstar meets the most of the basic expectations of the gamers it attracts and exceeds in the areas I find most fun.

I’m not saying Wildstar will be good. I love the art style but know little of the game play and scifi mmo’s are tricky business.

And as far as the fee goes, it just has to be good (a huge hurdle for an MMO but not an impossible one) Both EvE and WoW are still pay to play with Wildstar copying EvE’s PLEX system of buying and selling monthly passes in game which is a genius system that other games don’t emulate enough.

Biggest issues with Wildstar are the sub and the art style, the gameplay is fantastic.

The Plex style pay to play is the kicker though and is a REALLY solid way to roll over time. Your free to play folks become great farmers and your pay to players get influxes to their income in game when they want/need to spend more time out of game. Gem to gold failed in my mind. It brought a conflict of interest that stifled the end game economy. In wildstar, even if you make thousands of “gold” to buy a free month of gaming, someone paid for that month AND the month they are currently playing. They’ll still probably keep a balance for how much the Plex would go for, so that its worth the buyers while to sell them, but its not so much a conflict of interest like currently where folks are using the system to get everything they want in game farming content without paying a dime.

I’m not completely certain what the turnoff is in the animation. In fact, this kind of animation resembles stuff like Titan AE and Treasure Planet which is pretty popular in my circles. The craziness and overexaggeration is… actually part of its charm.

The question for me is: Do I want to make a psychotic alien monster to chase people around atomizing them with death rays? The answer is yes… yes I do I need my earth-shattering ka-boom!

Honestly, we could just do with more armor sets, more.. swappable armor sets.

Its like, we need more leather armors without the trenchcoats, we need more “softer” looking or cloth covered plate (kinda like human T3 heavy) and we need a bit heavier looking cloth. We also could use several basic sets of each armor class that “bridge” easily when matching between different sets. While we’re wishlisting, the male form of ascalonian pants and inquest chest (minus the shiny bits maybe) as a standard ANY CLASS style set (form-fitting plain chest/pants).

This is why we can’t have nice things!

Its not patch notes though, so even if a dev put this direction out there, they can change their minds :P

The only reason to do this is to try to force the PvE crowd to diversify the meta. This combined with increasing HP pools on event bosses… these are the sorts of things you do in beta, not release. Its not really game breaking, but for some folks even the in latest ‘already in game’ nerf to crit was pretty bad, especially with the ascended crafters. Maguuma is fun. Enough population that if you show up to most events beforehand you can get into a zone without ending up on overflow, but enough people on overflow that you can still get some things done. For instance, LA events – pretty solid zerging together (barring bugs and kitten). Marrionette though, I don’t think we ever saw an overflow win all 5 paths and after the first week, even the mains weren’t trying hard enough. Solid WvW though.

Not sure if we have any serious RPers, but one guy in our guild mumble rocks the helium voice playing an asura. Hillarious…. most of the time.

Two words. Frostgorge Sound. :P Yes, there are quaggans there and its cold as kitten.

You could say that Eskamos won’t shiver as much as an islander from the Caribbean under the same snowy circumstances… a quaggan accustomed to tropical weather might not deal well with a sudden shift north towards the mountains. Granted, in this game, the snowcaps are right next to the coastal plains… Kinda wish they’d have made the elevations a little more accurate to climate, but that would be one steep climb.

Also, its a wiki, so its probably better if we don’t use it as a science book or official D&D guide… or… even keep the developers honest with red-shirt guy level trivia. I think if they cared what we think, Scarlet wouldn’t have happened :P

The common/most popular way to farm gold ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guardian.5142

Guardian.5142

I’ve done that with mixed success. I ended up gearing and specing out a couple dungeon focused characters. If you do 5 dungeons a night (easy ones like CoF1/2, AC1-3, SE1,3, HOTW1, etc), you make 5g minimum plus loots/salvage.

You can also farm meta events, for which there’s normally a group of folks hitting everything as the timers pop which can net you a lot of loot to salvage or sell.

You can also farm gatherable mats like iron/plat/ori or seasoned/hard/ancient woods to sell for the folks running ascended.

You can also play the market, buying low and selling high or buying up mats when they are low, holding onto them and then selling them back when they are in high demand.

Personally, the only thing I’ve been able to do to make solid gains is dungeon running with a little iron/plat farming on the side. Just remember to use Master or Mystic kits on all low selling rares for ectos and on soulbound rares/exotics. Basic works for the rest.

Returning Player - Couple Questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guardian.5142

Guardian.5142

1. crafting items are have 250 stack naturally and they can be deposited there from anywhere in the field. I thought that was standard, but I started at Halloween after release.

2. for zergs, you still have to put forth a certain effort to get credit, party or no. There’s target calling and coordination gains from being in a party (you see where each other is, can watch their health, etc). I think it takes less damage to fully tag a mob when you’re in a group, but you still need to tag to get loot.

You had a Ranger and are starting a new class, but you might want to get in on some of the living story metas going on for the next couple weeks with your Ranger. It might not make sense playing it outright, but there are some rewards you may want later on your new toon. Check the wiki for the backstory and Check Dulfy for the guides.

Difference between warriors and guardians ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guardian.5142

Guardian.5142

I have both. Actually remade my maxed asura guardian into a char guardian and I’m enjoying the leveling process all over again. War runs faster with melee with the right traits pre-80, but guardian is stuck with retreat and staff 3 (probably slowest in game next to Mes). I’m going to get traveller or speed runes at end game for him to compensate. Nothing worse than lagging behind the action.

Try both classes in the PvP lobby or level both to 10-20. Look at which races suit you best and have the animations/voices/etc you want. It mattered a lot for me, but YMMV. Seriously, hearing the asuran male voice after a while just soured the experience and always feeling offbalance running with 2H weps made it less enjoyable. Charr, OTOH, and Norn both suit me very well. I still made them the smallest I could to make them seem less “lumbering slow”.

An idea for Ascended Gears

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Guardian.5142

Guardian.5142

These backpacks look to have come directly out of the CDI dicussion, with the ability to take the same item and promote it in stages until it gains endgame stats.

Its an experiment, and on the whole I think it’s been a lot better received than the process behind the Dyana/Grenth back pieces. Hideously rare recipes which still called for a vision crystal and 15 bolts of cloth (with NO alternatives for using leather or metal) and demanded 7 of the most expensive lodestones and 50g in the form of Icy runestones.

Agreed. Dwayna/Grenth felt like it was just for the most wealthy and currently already maxed Ascended. Its certainly worth it for the looks, but the blade back piece allows the folks with first characters who just hit 80 to have something nice they can “grow” into something pretty awesome and customizable later on. I really hope they stick with this model and expand on it with many more color customizable “looks”.

Honestly, if I had a choice, I’d have chosen a higher (active) pop server. I’m on Maguuma, which has a good WvW scene, but PvE I’ve had a lot more fun guesting on Jade Quarry or Tarnished Coast. Since you can guest, you can use that every day as needed to be on whatever server you like (as long as you don’t mind the extra step at login). Trick is, you can’t guest WvW, so if you’re making a long term decision, that would be what I base my choice on. I normally need at least one guest choice for CoF runs since Mag doesn’t seem to like to do it often.

AC123 (2 optional, sometimes buggy)
CM13

CoF12 (3 is easy, too, but no one does it)
HotW1 (3 is alright as well)
CoE123

All day every day!

Graduate to Arah1234 when you’re ready.

Pretty much this if you like gold, or just need large quantities of it. As far as “easy”, it takes time, experience and learning to play your class in a way that best synergizes with other people in a dungeon group. That means cleanses, reflects, fields/finishers and the most melee dps you can squeeze out of your character. It also means memorizing dungeons, positioning, dodge times/locations and coordination with your fellow dungeon mates, but that comes with time and experience.

If you don’t want to try too hard, there’s always the QD zerg, FG zerg and the wvw and orr event trains, which can be profitable, but IMO much less than chaining dungeons. Pick your goal and then try each of these suggestions to see what works best for you.

I get where the OP is coming from. I completely empathize. In Swtor, you can break out a companion during a dungeon in a pinch to cover a spot if someone lagged out or dropped unexpectedly and it… sorta helped? Some of the time. They weren’t amazing, but they made PvE solo instances/story instances a lot of fun for me. If you want to do some mad solo MMO content, go try Star Wars the Old Republic. You get your personal story tailored to your class, including different companions to fight alongside you through solo content. Its actually a lot of fun and rivals what you are asking for here.

My vote is to keep using players for player driven content for Guild wars 2 though. That may mean biting the bullet and rolling the dice with LFG. I do it just about every night (that the wife lets me) and I’m able to get through 4-5 dungeons at least (mostly CoF1/2, SE 1/3, AC all paths, HOTW p1). Just the “easy” ones. Trick seems to be choosing to run the dungeons that don’t require an overabundance of thought and can be run quickly. Bite the bullet, embrace your inner zerker meta, grab your towel and stick your thumb out. Its not near as bad as you think….well.. sometimes its as bad as you think… most times the people are lovely individuals willing to freight train their way through the grit to get to the shiny core filled with phat lewts.

Vol is vol. No one should be surprised, alarmed, amazed or upset that he has an opinion and considers it relevant, if not authoritative. (nothing but love, man)

Honestly, I think most of you think that “its over” in March means somehow they are tying up loose ends and letting us kill her, ending in parades, anthems and silly magic tricks involving hallucinated moas. I do not believe they will…

No. I believe they may end the ‘Scarlet’ saga, and begin the new dragon/boss/meta part of the living story. You know what that means. You’re reward for completing the living story arc to this point will be the salty taste of tears and the tattered remains of a world being consumed by yet another new “bad guy of some type”. This is just end of the appetizer and salad course… Hopefully after a year we can finally dig in to the main course. If Anet ever had a way to sate me, its with the meat and potatoes.

My call is that we are trading one bad guy for another, bigger ‘badder’ guy. The rewards will probably mimic something like Krait tower or Marrionette. Do a bunch of events/etc and you have a chance to get some keys that open for a chance of rare drops….. and then a meta achieve to own your very own exclusive back piece that fits some aspect of the story, but has extremely limited fashion potential.

This is all just taking from what they have done recently…. so if Anet ever wanted to come out swinging and give us something in game worth having, (not necessarily loot), nows definitely the time…

Whoops. Guess they needed to take the finisher off the market for a bit for retooling… something about it upstaging the higher PVP rank finishers… gonna replace the quaggan with Broham in his skivvies. Same animation.

How much have you spent?

Probably about $50.00 or so. I’m still a fairly old school kind of gamer and am used to “paying” for my game with time spent grinding, farming or raiding as per my interests. I don’t consider days lost as much as days played and enjoyed. When that fun ends, the game does. Move on to the next and keep things light and fresh. I can’t imagine paying so much in a game, even if that amount were easily considered disposable income. Certainly not judging, but I am starting to see how some folks might get the feeling they are more dedicated than others.

Just remember when you think you’ve hit a point where you might be putting too much time and money into this game… that there’s someone else out there who makes you feel “normal”. Probably should be expected of Eve online though…

Very pretty music. Besides that, I’m not sure what you mean. If its your “old school gaming moments”, most of us MMO vets have more than a few of these. We could talk MUDs, EQ, DAOC, AO for a while… even Eve, though that’s still going strong.

Its a little more sobering when you go through screenshots from some of your favorite gaming moments, only to remember those games are no longer around.

Marcus…. I completely understand where you are coming from. You get to the endgame and you think, wow that was awesome… now… uh… hrm… So, LS comes out every so often, that’s kinda interesting with some rewards (get em fast, they go away). There’s dungeon chaining, which… profitable, yes. fun… meh. There’s event farming, world bosses and trains… varying degrees of… yeah. All of this has a 100% chance of “something” and a .00000001 chance of “awesome” dropping at every turn… which you’ll probably sell to afford something you DO want. So… yep.

Basically, you’re starting to understand the limitations of the current endgame. It feels a lot like you just went on an epic quest, saved the world, rescued the prince(ess), got upstaged by Trehearne, the credits roll and then… you found yourself in a bar… with everyone else gathered around tables playing cards… who… did the exact same thing you did…. So you saddle up to a table and play a few hands. Fun, sure. Nothing particularly epic or game changing. Its… just.. what it is.

You might level up a few alts as a chance to see more of the pre80s game. Maybe have a bit of an identity crisis till you find “the best” class for you. Level er up. Hit 80. End up at the same kitten ed bar. You CAN make the best of it. Make friends. Make the most of the situation. Relax and enjoy the free to play game and expecting, about the same level of overall game progression… Or you can get crotchety and come post rants or question the meaning of our game-lives on the forums.

Starting to think this game might not be for you, bud. Take a moment here and try something else for a bit. I can recommend Planetside 2 or Swtor for a change of pace.

@OP

I think you have the right idea. Stay away from top end gear and be happy with basic Exotics. Good luck being happy with the ‘end game’ going forward, but if you find something to do in game that makes you happy, by all means do so.

Personally, I have 7 alts, 5 at 80 and I’m not even sure why. At first it was to make sure a class could be fun for me, then it was about farming, then it was “designer” characters, like I’d log into my mesmer (main) for dungeons, but PvE train/events I’d roll my warrior or engie, etc. Then it was about having an ideal PvP class to get into (never really happened). Then it was about making a character that I’d want to have a specific legendary on. In the end, I really just end up playing my mes and engie. :P.

Also, to those not wanting to grind hearts… don’t After I do the 5 starter areas, I normally just hit all the WPs and a few low hanging PoIs. Amazing how much xp you can get from just dodging mobs like mad and tagging easy map points.

Nerfing Berserker Gear Would Be A Mistake

@OP – did you also notice with this change came the new Zealot gearsets? Basically zerker replacing crit damage bonus with healing bonus. Most people say lol-healingset, but if they intend to buff fights or make things harder in the future, these sets like Knights and Zealots might have more of a place in the meta.

My first thought with most of what Anet does is “what the hell are you thinking”… then I try to trace a logical path and derive where they might be heading with it. Its best to assume they ‘meant’ to do things the way they did them. That still doesn’t really make them good ideas most of the time.

@OP…

- the extra drops are for salvage to be sold and support the economy.

- As far as loot excitement goes, try the mystic forge for a bit. Exciting like a trip to Vegas. That and holy kitten! a named Exotic dropped! WoooT! Thank you QD train! Now to check the TP to see… oh. 2G. /sigh Its something… better start up boar.

You’re right that the excitement of general gear dropping in PvE has waned a great deal with the sort of lukewarm loot system in this game. As long as people keep playing, Anet will stay the course. People start dropping out of the game or stop buying off the gemstore and baam! Double Loot Chance weekend and *+100 magic find consumable bonuses on the Gemstore.
