In Game Marriage system

I understand that most people wanting this system probably date (if they do, in fact, date at all) on Tinder and the like, so won’t ever get married. So for those folk, ol’ NoSleepDemon has some handy words of advice for y’all:

Getting married isn’t a matter of earning XP, completing a mastery and expecting some sort of reward at the end. You get married because you love someone, that’s the reward.

Let’s not gamify the institution of marriage folks, let’s get ourselves lives instead.

No you have this wrong.

You are with someone because you love them.
You get married for the law-assured benefits.

Mace skill 2 isn't 1 block

Harny.6012

So while testing some war mechanics with a friend of mine, we found out that if you jump while casting mace skill 2, you will not counterblow and you can and will block all incoming damage to you for the duration of the skill regardless of melee or ranged. I don’t know if this is already well known, but it’s something cool that I would like to share.

Thank you for posting this on the forums, to let Anet know that this unintended imperfection in their code that only a handful of players use to their advantage, needs to get fixed.

And? what does that have to do with the old tools being objectively inferior to the new ones?

On one hand you have a tool that gives you a certain QoL. On other hand you have a tool that offers you the same QoL and a few extras. The second one is just plain better.

I noticed that people often mind when someone comes, requesting changes that are often big on impact and/or implementation, being very short-sighted, because of “I”, “me” and “mine”.

Pretty much anything that has some effect to it cost an arm and a leg .. i don’t know about everyone else but man .. i sometimes just keep wondering .. why so expensive! lol.

for example: Eir’s Legacy Longbow cost a whooping 600 gems!, that’s some 184 gold easily! è_è and that’s one item. how many hours do one have to play to be in shape to get this one item?!

u should play black desert ^^

Mounts [merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Harny.6012

Mounts would likely be confined to the expansion maps if the rumors are true. I can’t see them adding them to other areas as that could cause more issues than gliding.

They should be allowed all over Tyria with the exception of jumping puzzles (similar to how gliding works).

It’s going to happen. It’s a huge potential money maker – just look at this thread and realize there is a reason this was merged together with 4 years of forum posts..there is a reason for that.

Then look at the test case of WoW and releasing a Fellbeast looking flying mount. They sold digital assets reaching over what some MMOs make during their lifetime within one week of release (something that probably took no more than a few people a couple of weeks to create (art assets) and implement with current tech).

What makes flying mounts epic? Take water combat mechanics and put it in the air with full z-axis movement.

Aion’s Abyss etc.? No ty.

Hi Anet,

Allow us, for the size of the party, to be able to select professions and stat priorities from dropdowns. These can be represented in the tool by their icons, such as sword for power, profession icons for classes.

I like this idea, let people know quickly and easily what class and or role a group is looking for.

Exclusion Criteria If raiders only select those who have raided from day one, the community can only get smaller, as player stop and start to play.

I would suggest that the Looking for Group side of things facilitate players to add items they currently own in their bags or bank, to show as proof that they have completed specific content. This could be armor, weapons, legendary insights, boss drops, miniatures, skins, whatever they feel best builds their case and capability.

This part you lost me. It appears you state that it’s a good thing for new players to join the raids and not be excluded or the raid community just shrinks. Then the solution you offer is to show proof of “specific content” you have completed. Which sounds alot like showing raid drops, or cheevos… How does that help the community expand and welcome new players?

My observations:

“you state that it’s a good thing for new players to join the raids and not be excluded or the raid community just shrinks”
- This method included “time-checking”(?). He doesn’t agree with it, because he doesn’t use this method currently

“Then the solution you offer is to show proof of “specific content”
This is basically the same method, just dressed yellow. He uses this method, so this one “is automatically better”.

Divinity's Reach main city?

Lion’s Arch is the “main” city in the game, as it isn’t race aligned. That being said, many people hang out in Divinity’s Reach because even without access to the Crown Pavilion, all of the other main services and crafting stations are very close together, making for the best efficiency.

And in RS and HB for the same reason.

Only in Black Citadel you mostly see one race, because tiny hoomans get scared.

Is what we like to think.

Tabs or favourites (or that sort of thing) in friend list. We need to organize it, it’s important. It’s people!

Status selection prior to logging in (on launcher).

New status (N/A or DND or that sort of thing). Properties:
- selecting this new status would prevent anyone from PMing to person that is N/A or DND. This way people see Im busy or dont want to socialize, yet I dont have to “hide” in invisible
- PMs from people in your favourites would go through

EDIT: I realized this would be easily checkable by anyone and probably isnt a good social suggestion.
To fix this, I suggest:
instead of PMs from non-favourited contacts not going through, make them grey and not playing the PM sound. This way it would be easy to distinguish what I want to read and what I dont, while Im playing content or doing whatever.
On top of this, backspace reply would only react to the pink, prioritized PMs.

Account hacking incident

We have a great team of customer support agents who follow these policies, and the hacker tried a bunch of times and found one agent who didn’t.

We take your account security seriously and will continue to do everything we can to ensure that our support team consistently applies this security policy and prioritizes protecting you from account hackers.

Mo

These two sentences bother me the most.

WHY wasn’t Gaile’s account flagged after the first two or three attempts? Do your CS reps not talk to eachother?

Color me skeptical about just how seriously you take account security.

People are people and are lazy. Not making notes, not marking check boxes in their internal systems, having longer breaks, whatever. I see this everywhere.
Though if such things happen even through internal policies, there’s something wrong with the company culture (not Anet, the one they outsource).

Employees at such positions often try to figure out how to make their work day easier, how to increase their performance numbers etc. And even if they dont “try”, this kind of comes naturally. And it’s up to that particular employee to stay professional over time.

Imagine scenario nobody minded or noticed this for a long time. You push the limits, you do things the lazy way more and more often… and soon part of the whole team can become toxic in such way, where coaches teach the newcomers wrong ways so they can go for coffee and chat sooner.

I might be wrong at this, also don’t take it word by word, though this is how it often looks like to me.
Not only personal experiences.

I’m pretty sure Gaile was the Team Lead for the CS Team, just as Michael is now.

According to Michael, she used to ‘handle tickets’, just as he does now.

http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/339870-a-little-movement-here-in-cs-world/

My bad then. I stand corrected.

No, Rose, you were correct.

I was never CS Lead. I was Support Liaison, and the thread I created and maintained was in place to allow me to review CS decisions and see if we could come up with a better outcome for players. It also allowed me to ask CS of they could handle tickets that may have lingered too long in the system, or have fallen through the cracks. I didn’t make CS decisions; I aided players in getting the most positive outcome possible. So as you can see, I wasn’t making decisions — I was helping players.

And whether I was CS Lead or not, saying “You deserved it” is inappropriate and cruel.

Saying I failed at that job — which incidentally I have not held in two years — is unfair and inaccurate. If an agent erred in handling someone’s issue, or if there were security issues that were not handled to the satisfaction of a player or group of players, whyever would it be seen as “karma” for me, personally, to suffer loss?

And saying “We/I did this to get your (company’s) attention” is reprehensible. Hurting a person to send a message is inhumane and wrong.

Gaile, can’t your co-workers roll-back your account?
Did this hurt you in any other way than missing items?

Don’t mix the message the activist tried to send, with mean reactions from community. It’s two very separate things. I know activism can hurt but it has it’s purpose, do you disagree?

That is what I try to encourage is starting your own groups rather than complain about the current set ups for one. But eh, its a really weird cycle.

I found Potato’s Video very enlightening from his stand points and they do make sense.

Also Arenanet heavily discourages sharing your API codes with others you do not know. Cause they are tied to your account.

That and some player’s will not be comfortable with giving away their account’s information to random people they do not know.

The only reasons i see for not sharing API are:
- checking out potential target of theft, scam etc.
- e-bullying

If you can handle both on your own, why not share your API if you want?

Shared Foraging Tools

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harny.6012

Harny.6012

It’s easy to say give us shared tools, but how would it work? They have to be put in the harvesting tool slots first so they can’t just be “shared harvesting tools for X gems each”.
How would it work exactly? Would you get a free copy of each tool you buy for every char you make all the way up to the max number of chars? Because I don’t see this happening.

You equip them on character of your choice, call it character A.
Character B doesnt have any tools.
You open Hero panel on character B, and see shared tools from character A. Their icon is faded a little and there is a small icon in the corner. You are free to use them even though character B doesn’t have them equipped yet.
You can also decide to equip different tools on character B, if you wish for any reason (mostly fashion reasons?).
Also this would be much better if it works as a shared slot, not a shared tool.
You could use any infinite tools then (skins).
Cons for Anet are that there isn’t anything new sold, though a QoL change like this has the potential to bump up sales of these tools by huuge amounts.
Only they have numbers on how many active accounts own these, though I personally will never buy any of these tools without sharing options.

Would this be a programming nightmare?
We will never know!
But it might be something that would bump the infinite tools.

Yes. Account bound harvesting tool slots is a much better suggestion than shared harvesting tools with an unspecified means of action. It’s something that been suggested before.

Of course that means that people who’ve bought multiple sets for themed animations on different characters are again left out of this convenience.

IMO people who bought several sets are the main reason why we didn’t have this yet.
You can’t just screw your customers over like that. I know it has been done in the past (for good of all of us) but this would be probably change with the biggest impact on past gemstore purchases.

If they figured it out already, resources are probably reason two, but the only real problem is point 1.
They would need to do a lot of refunds, which doesn’t only mean lost money but hell a lot of human hours going through all those tickets.
If they would refuse to refund them, even owning the tools for a year or two wouldn’t justify such decision as based on pricing, they are a very long-term investment.

Concerns about ANet development behavior

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harny.6012

Harny.6012

Couple things..

1. ANet is gonna do what ANet is gonna do, regardless of what anyone thinks, because its their business. Lose players. Gain players. It matters little, unless profits drop, which they really haven’t.

2. Which leads me to: These forums and subreddit. Many people love to do absolutely nothing, but complain. Too much to do. Too little to do. Not enough this. Too much that. And etc, etc. If you read all the negative posts now, everyone is complaining about a content drought, instead of being happy with what was, and moving on to something else to play, during the interim. Honestly, you don’t have to play this game 24/7, 365. I swear!

3. Alot of people bought into the negative hype from the forums and subreddit, thus it began to reshape their impressions of this game, forgetting that even Blizzard had issues with deploying content the first 2 years, as they were expanding faster than they could manage. All of these negative thoughts, and expressions tend to guide the weak-minded into believing this is the worse game ever, which it really isn’t.

4. Due to the expansion, and after Colin had left, ANet woke up, and started paying attention to things. They started communicating more. Even Mike O’Brien popped in, and even though he brought bad news, bad news is better than no news. So KUDOS! to that. He was honest. Something ANet often portrays the opposite of.

Things ARE changing, but you have to be patient. Take a break. Go play something else for a few months, because there are plenty of great games out there, that you’ll burn through the content, and be just in time for next update for GW2.

Its that easy. Lets just be happy with what we have, and eagerly await new stuff, without being toxic and judgemental.

Man, lifes too short to go around stressin over stuff like this. Especially with all the bad things happening in the world right now. Be happy that you can log in every night, and burn the day’s stresses away on something. Many people don’t have that ability, and live in an anguish neither you or I can imagine.

I wanna buy you a beer, or ten.

I don’t know if you know this but hopefully it will help.

If you hit “y” ingame it will bring up the group finding menu. From there you can go down to the raiding tab and on the right hand side it will display groups currently looking for members. HOWEVER, at the very bottom you will see a button called “advertise group”.

You can click this button and it will allow you to form your own search, where you can set any requirements you want. It sounds like you want a more casual experience, so I would suggest something like: “looking for casual raiders” or “looking for more for raids, all welcome”. This way you will attract players that are looking for a similar experience as yourself.

Thankfully you are under no obligation to join groups that are advertising an experience you do not prefer. Just ignore these groups and follow the above steps and this will allow yo to obtain the experience you are looking for.

This deserves to be a sticky.

No more new 5PlayerContent outside Fractals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harny.6012

Harny.6012

I’m of the honest belief that Guild Wars 2 has thrived on outdoor content much more than content in dungeons and it should stay that way rather than introducing new systems like dungeons. The main issue is to not have meta events be the focus of a map, but the map’s smaller events all around. See Silverwastes for example, Vinewrath is too important of a target, but the smaller bosses, which you can’t realistically all kill in 1 trip, those are fine. They’re different, smaller meta events, and they don’t take nearly as long to reach. You can jump in, play a bit, do them, then jump out. Dry Top is alright too with its various sandstorm events.

What doesn’t work is maps like Tangled Depths where the meta is impossible, where nobody playing means you utterly fail and it takes forever to get back to the meta. Silverwastes? It progresses, even if people fail events and lose forts all over the map. I always saw Silverwastes as a mini dungeon where you can switch paths/forts whenever you liked and grouped with random people to defend or capture them every time. Sometimes a Legendary happens and then all hell breaks loose. It’s still fun even if I farmed it so much for Luminescent. Dungeons/low fractals are a rushfest, but you can’t rush Silverwastes and you can go about it in so many different ways unlike fractals always done the same way over and over.

What hell breaks loose in sw?
Its just skill spam of 1 to several dozen people. Most of them have no idea what to spam, so you see all the point blanks and stuffs.

This is getting annoying...

An improvement to the "invisible" mode

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Harny.6012

Harny.6012

Still has not been fixed. Such a huge flaw…

Depends on which issue you’re referring to. There have been improvements. Invisible people show up as offline rather than unknown, unless you’re mutual friends. Only mutual friends see the extended information on hover now, whereas everyone else just sees online/offline. The last online in the guild roster is no longer updated if you stay invisible. You still can’t see guild chat, and people have never been able to whisper you while invisible, though you could whisper them. If you didn’t logoff while invisible, people will see you login under game messages/contacts chat once you reach character select, at which point you can go invisible and they’ll see you logoff. Logging off invisible prevents that. People can invite you to a group while invisible, but the trick is, you have to do nothing. The game allows you to invite people who are offline.

If you didn’t logoff while invisible, people will see you login under game messages/contacts chat once you reach character select, at which point you can go invisible and they’ll see you logoff.

That’s an improvement.

It also explains a puzzling set of ingame messages I saw on a couple of suspected gold sellers I had “friended.” (Two chars with gibberish names I saw standing off to the side in the human starter instance). The next day each logged on then immediately logged back off. They must have gotten to character select then went to invisible.

I think when you logon with wrong password, you blink as online to your friends, including on/off notification messages to them.
Ban might be working the same way, so maybe they were online just for fraction of second before the ban announcement popped up?

@Healix, thank you for very informative post!

Why would people invest over 1000g for something that only increases 2-3% in the stats? Juste because people don’t have it doesn’t mean they suck and shouldn’t raid, I cleared the 1st wing with ascended trinkets only and there was no timer issue at all, so please stop saying it’s required or anything even for a dumb Vale Guardian, maybe for tank or healer but certainly not for DPS and condis…

Unless you’re soloing the raids, 2-3% x10 more damage is a pretty big difference.

2-3% difference is still just 2-3% difference.
Aren’t these LFGs done by people that want to get carried, in a way?

So either you “exploit” on the tree or you have a guard or mesmer with you that know how to play the class but that, my dear, is even rare than lvl 2 players meleeing.

My guild yolo melees him with Berserker/Chronomancer/Herald/Tempest and no fifth party member on 77. He dies at least 50% faster than the exploit methods with full parties.

Also for anyone who thinks this isn’t an exploit, it is. Source: I talk to ANet.

Someone from pugs last days asked “tree?” before three of us said no.
It was slow, most of them were downed constantly…
Yolo melee only works if you know what your skills and traits do, then you have to use them / select them properly.

Listen it is not an exploit because they made it possible to jump into the trees if you climb the tree he becomes invulnerable and can not be hurt. Second off if anet has a problem with players finding an easier way to play the game then pull the game from the shelves and re do it, it is that simple they can not and will nto be able to cover everything and make it visually appealing. So suck it up buttecup and learn to enjoy the game if you do not want to use a tree don’t use it if you want to stack in the corner need the stairs which by the way is another place you can then do that he throws axes just like the ranger so get over it.

Having LFG tool in such obscure state months into the expansion is just so shameful for the company…
I hope they are preparing glorious, vision-fulfilling restart for the tool because it just takes too long.

Just ignore it, it’s one of those clever tricks to make players use their credit cards and buy gems to convert to gold

Just $1k for the egg.
That’s genius!!!
How didn’t they have such cash cow before?

Maybe Anet should stop spending on Esports

At the end of the day, ANet’s a business. If the eSports investment really is doing that badly, then they’ll cut it; that they haven’t yet either means they’re seeing growth that justifies continued investment or it’s doing much better than you think it is.

There has been a lot of delusional and arrogant developers/businessmen in the gaming industry. As someone who used to work production for a few North American Esport companies such as NASL back in 2010, it’s a very risk investment.

Especially for a game that has a very low Pvp player base and the fact MMOS are the least competitive and popular in the Esport scene.

It really does feel some aspects of guild wars 2 have been neglected, with focus on marketing Spvp as an Esport.

I have nothing against a company trying to expand and improve their product by branching out in different areas, but the way Anet has been going about things as of late seem to bring more negative aspects to the game than positive. Structured pvp is in its worst state it has ever been in.

I seen companies lose and waste money trying to make their game something that it’s not and ignore their customers complaints.

Again I love Guild Wars 2 and still have fun in it, but you can’t deny that across all boards players are frustrated, especially the state of WVW which has always had a much larger population than structured pvp. Ignoring the majority to cater to the minority is never a smart business decision when it comes to MMOs.

Be careful, because people will just think you said that out of your parents’ basement.
