Why am I not impressed by ANet’s statement: I’ve heard the exact same thing through out the 3 years I have waited for the official release of the MAC client. Superficial statements with 0 information about our issue, nothing that can really settle our nerves down.

I’m glad now, after 3 years, the mac community finally is starting to show more of its disappointment with the company’s lack of responsibility.

Hello,

One of the reasons we don’t tend to respond to a lot of Mac specific posts is because an overwhelming majority of them are shared with Windows users

Thanks!

That’s exactly what i tought it would happen when you guys decided to merge mac forum with the windows one!
You guys wanted to burry our complains and our bug reports under the windows posts, which are a lot!

IT’S HARD EVEN FOR ME TO FIND MAC ASSISTANCE IN THIS FORUM BECAUSE NOW I HAVE TO FILTER THE POSTS!

PLEASE ANET DO US A FAVOR: EITHER ADMIT THAT YOU DO NOT CARE FOR US OR SHOW US SOME ACTUAL SUPPORT!

We are paying customers, that love the game, and would like to continue to do so without having to find the fixes ourselves to play a game we payed you to bring us

I agree with this. saying ‘many mac users complaints are shared with the pc users’ is a cop out. It’s still two different coding specs. And from what EVERYONE tells me, coding for the mac is more ‘difficult’

Hello,

We know the Cider wrapper isn’t the greatest. One of the reasons we don’t tend to respond to a lot of Mac specific posts is because an overwhelming majority of them are shared with Windows users. I do want to assure you all that we are actively fixing bugs on all clients. Some are quick to fix, some take a fair bit of time. Please try to be patient and keep submitting those reports!

Thanks!

Don’t call it a beta, if it’s not even native. That is bad marketing. And yes i’m going to point out the elephant in the room!

I’ve supported this game since release, bought gems, bought expansion and recommends friends who currently plays. Why can’t you give us back the support and answer our concerns about the constant crashes most if not all mac players experience.

We won’t.

The core game is still NOT A NATIVE BETA on the mac. So why even consider buying the expansion… I’m not. If your on a mac, it’s almost a waste of money for how terrible the game runs through the cider port.

I was just on my Ranger, in a two person group, me and another. I was in KBL and I had been afk for about 5 minutes. I started to run to catch up to my friend and I realized that I was heading straight for the portal to the other BL. I grabbed my mouse and tried to turn away form the portal on the right, I moved the mini map instead. So I quickly repositioned the mouse and turned with it, only to have the game freeze COMPLETELY. Which froze my machine completely. I couldn’t even switch out of the program to force quit it. So I’ve spend the last HOUR having Time Machine restore my computer to a previous backup. I don’t even dare try to PLAY the godkitten game now!

ANet why do you hate mac users? Just tell me, so I know not to expect a real mac beta. Then I least I know, for a FACT, that I’ll have to play on a cider port, indefinitely. Which makes buy HoT not worth it if you play on an apple computer.

It’s not likely. Arenanet haven’t made a native client because it would require the hiring of staff who actually have the ability to do so and it would require them to simultaneously manage a game in DirectX and OpenGL. They’re probably decided that it is far more financially viable for them to use a Cider port so that they don’t really have to do anything on the OSX client…

well, here I was hoping they would write a vulkan renderer.

If they do, I can get native performance on linux without the entire port. WINE is nice these days.

good luck with that

I have a simple question. Is ANet by any chance going to put, into game, a Robin Williams tribute/effegy of some sort. GW2 is way better than WoW, but because he played that game, they are planning on putting a tribute in game, for this great man.
I was simple curious if there was any way that Guild Wars 2 might do that. Would be a sight too see.

@Hollow: There may not be any error message that you see, but I am curious if the crash is recorded in the ArenaNet.log file. Since there may be historical crashes, you could try deleting the file and then once the client crashes again, the file will be re-created.

Pardon, I was just trying to communicate that, before when the game would freeze/crash/force quit, it would give me one of a possible 3 error messages. But after the update on the 18th of this month. I have not gotten any of those error messages. Just the biggest major difference I noticed immediately with my particular client. However i admit I know nothing about programming so this is just my observation.
Currently have a support ticket submitted to try and get more help with the situation. I am still having problems

I’ve had no end of troubles with that other game as well. I have no idea how Anet’s abysmal support managed to out shine them (the reps here are nice and polite but it doesn’t stop the company from releasing progressively worse and worse patches during 2014). Things are so bad I’m considering going back to WoW of all things (even though I dislike the game play at least I can play the thing when I want to).

Which is why I’m honestly considering pre-ordering that game that was previous mentioned. We at least know that Zenimax has a team, is working with, communicating fulling and acknowledging the very existence of the Mac users for the game. That along is going to make a big difference for me now. The lack of communication and support for our client on these forums is simply appalling at best, in all areas.

In 17 days an alternative is coming that is Native to Mac and we’re all looking at it with eagerness. We spend more than the Windows users do on things and we’ll gladly jump ship to escape being marginalized for choosing a more rock solid computer.

If you’re talking about the game I think of, I just spend this weekend with that native OSX client crashing every 15 minutes. In comparison the GW2 OSX client barely crashes at all for me. Native client is not a guarantee for better stability or performance.

Back on topic: For a native OSX client to happen, the game has to be ported to OpenGL entirely, or needs a better translation solution. We might see that soon if Valve can get SteamOS off the ground, and developers have more incentive to support multiplattform development.

It’s not going to happen just for the few Mac users in GW2.

of course he IS! i mean c’mon. And its still in beta. for both pc and mac. Those crashes are different than having the CPU on the comp over taxed because its being force feed windows code through a emulator or whatever the hell it is.

Listen, as far I am concerned Trog is right. Calling the client that mac user play a “beta” is basically a slap in the face. It’s a WINDOWS client forced through a port. Fact is, if they would not have advertised this game for mac in the first place I would have saved my time and money for ESO. I WISH they would just tell us, flate out “we have your money, we aren’t doing anything about a REAL native client.” then we would at least know where we stand. We were falsely sold a product we are not getting.

I’m pretty patient while companies get their act together. I know things take time in organizations. But… I’m sick of the Mac client crashing all the time. Any time there are around 50 people in the same general space, I’m very likely to have a crash. Turning down graphics settings seems to help lessen the effect, but not always.

I play this game for WvW and big open world living story events, both of which are highly susceptible to this problem. I also play it for world exploration and the prettiness of it all, which is diminished by tuning my graphics down.

For my part, no more gem purchases until the situation improves. I don’t expect this to make a big difference to you, anet; I can’t make you get your act together and move corporate mountains to respect your Mac-using customers… but I haven’t SEEN you do anything other than provide little snippets of hope that some good news is on the way. I’m tired of the false hope, and since I have no control over your internal disfunction around serving your customers better, my own spending on this game is something I WILL control, and until I have a playable client: not another dime from me.

I’m glad somebody agrees with me. I’ve reserved my money to spend on games for ESO for the time being. No more on this game.

My game is now unplayable. No error message of any sort… nothing. The game force quotes itself before i can do anything.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned, but has everyone running Mavericks disabled App Nap for GW2?

Right click the GW2 application -> Get Info -> Tick Prevent App Nap.

Or from the console.

defaults write com.transgaming.guildwars2 NSAppSleepDisabled -bool YES

It helped my FPS quite a bit.

I just tried this, not only did it not help. But my game promptly shut itself off, almost immediately.

We’re glad that most of you have noticed performance improvements following the Mac fixes that were part of the February 18th update. Rest assured, team members are continuing to work on Mac!

We forgot to include a note about this work in the update notes and we apologize for that lapse. The FPS changes were an official part of the build, not a happy accident or a stealth update. (Just in case you were wondering. ) We should have included a call-out about it in the notes and in the future, we’ll do our best to outline Mac improvements in the Update Notes to keep you better informed of the progress that the team is making.

really… just now aware of THIS thread?

Client Crashing

I found a solution to the IMMEDIATE crash issue – where I’d crash within a minute or less or whenever zoning or using a way point.

Remove the GuildWars2 folder from Application Support and let GW2 rebuild it.

With the Client QUIT and Not Running:

I went to User/Library/Application Support/Guild Wars 2 and put the entire “Guild Wars 2” folder in the trash.

I restarted the client and GW2 rebuilt this folder.

YOU WILL LOSE SAVED NAME AND SAVED PASSWORD, and will need to REENTER your email address and your password.

The User Library is hidden, but you can get to it while in the finder by going to:
Go/Go To Folder/

and entering the string “~/Library” without the quotes.

Navigate thru the Application Support hierarchy to Guild Wars 2 and trash it.

Hope this helps.

The fact that we need to do this… after EVERY update is pathetic. I’ve seriously lost count at how many times i’ve had to do this.

Yep, started happening to me immediately after the new update post Battle for LA. I’ve only been gaming for like 2 hours and it has, basically force quite itself without any error message, at all.
I love the fact that with every update, it feels like ANet is passively trying to screw us mac users over a little bit more. So sick of this.
