Just played a round with a p/p thief on the opposite side while on cele ele. All my deaths were basically caused by here. You don’t even realize that they’re shooting at you while you’re fighting someone else.
You mean exactly like you don’t see a Mesmer bursting you? Difference is the Mesmer doesn’t have 11k HP. Now go into the Mesmers forum and starting crying as well.
I don’t know about you but I can tell when a mes can burst just fine. I can usually dodge it with little problem. Kinda hard to miss clones coming towards you. Now little bullets coming towards you while you have other spell effects going on are hard to see. I’m not saying that she wasn’t hard to kill. Just a bit annoying like ranger 4(?) longbow.

Could you send an invite my way? I’m trying to get more into pve from pvp and I have a lot to learn.
Hi, I’m not a new player but I just took a pretty long break from the game. I mostly did PVP but I’m looking into doing more PVE so people that can help me with dungeons/fractals would be amazing. I might get back into WvW again so the server thing is kinda important. I’m on the gmt-8/EST timezone. I would love an active guild with many people but not one that has so many people that everyone becomes distant and fragmented. Thanks!
I mainly pvp so I’m at a lost for wvw. I have no idea what builds are actually good and the food and everything else confuses me lol. If you guys could use a build editor and link me to it so I can see what you use, that’d be a great help. I’d to use d/d, d/p, or s/d in that order if that makes any difference. I want to be able to kill quickly with good bursts.
Tbh don’t stand in the wells is the best advice. When they go into DS shadowstep away and refuge if you have to until they come out. Then quickly burst them down if you can.
Hi! I’m currently on Fort Aspenwood. I’m not new to the game but I have just returned from a 6 month break. I mostly PvP and I think I do pretty well with thief. I also like to do a little WvW and I’m a little experienced with PvE. I’m looking for a friendly guild that has a good size and is, you know, active. Also if you don’t mind me running through dungeons with you to learn them, that would be great Send me a mail in game if you think I would be interested!
I know you may want to use d/d with p/p or shortbow but those weapons sets just are not that viable for pvp lol. You can also do S/D with shortbow. These two builds are the meta and may be a little different from the ones on meta battle.
For pve I suggest looking up DnT’s guide on it.
Well I’m a thief and I’m not toxic. I’m sure if your class was nerfed into the ground you’d be a tad kittened at people calling for more nerfs. The only weapon set that can evade for dayz is s/d and that’s the whole point of it. Outside of that, there is little survivability. Don’t tell me you can stealth and run away because if you cnd more than once you’re most likely screwed. Cnd is hard to land too anywas. Have you even been in a downstate fight with a ranger? Jeez. People cry about good thieves but there are good players from every class that can completely kitten you up.
Proud moment of mine is when my friend joined a hj and they were losing badly. We joined the losing side and the score was 257 to 492. We then proceeded to carry the team to victory with a 3 cap and orbs
Also when my teammate was down with 3 ppl on his body. I quickly ss up and dropped sr, dodged a few times, and got him up. We then wrecked all 3 of them
I usually don’t play p/p but a friend of mine gave me a build yesterday and I completely wrecked face. He plays condi engi and I actually beat him a lot. Keep in mind he has 17k games logged so he isn’t bad lol.
Anyways the build is 62006. Mug, Improvisation, and Panic Strike for the first line. Pistol Mastery for the second. For the third I forgot the first one (it’s the one that gives 3 boons) but the second and third are Bountiful Theft and Slight of Hand.
Use a brezerker amulet and pack runes. Also take shortbow as the alternative. Sigil of Rage and Air for p/p and sigil of fire and geomancy(?) for the shortbow.
Utilities should be Withdraw for heal, Roll for Initiative, Shadows Refuge and I think the third is either infiltrators signet(?) Or shadowstep.
Basically all she has to do is steal, press 3, press 3 again, dodge some attacks, run the other way, press 3 again, roll for initiative, and press 3 moar.
I wouldn’t suggest using the build in like q and she should probably learn the real weapon sets people use for pvp lol.
Oh man. I think ricochet is one of the traits used somewhere. I forgot though lol. I’m not even sure if it is a trait but you can adjust as needed. Idk, another pro teef suggested I put 6 in the first line instead of the second. So I don’t know if ricochet is a trait in critical strikes. If I is then just ignore it because you want pistol mastery. Unless if pistol mastery is the one that gives ricochet then just ignore this last paragraph haha

I disagree with the notion that thief doesnt do jack in pvp. Ive carried so many trams and preformed a lot of nice saves that lead to wins. If a teammate is losing or down I can quickly kill that person in like 3 secs. Earlier today the score in a room was 200(us) to 492 and we came back and won. Also if you dont know how to play thief then obviously you cant contribute much.
A popular tip on the forums for you guys: L2P
Hi there. Sorry for the late post and I hope you read it.
Personally for me I used dagger with a pistol offhand and then I use a shortbow for my other weapon. Some tips are to use the pistol 5 (blind field) to make sure the thing you’re fighting doesnt kill you. I use the signet the gives you a 25% increase in movement to get around quicker and I also use the battle signet, the one that increases power. I also use shadowstep for increased mobility but you can choose whatever you like. For the 4th utility, the last one, you dont get to unlock it until level 30. But when you do I suggest getting thieves guild because it causes to other thieves to pop up and helps you kill your target. Its pretty helpful. You unlock traits at level 30 too i think. For this i suggest putting most of your points in the power tree. I also strongly suggest you choose what you want to switch it if you dont like it just to get a feel for all the traits and what they can do.
Good luck and have fun leveling!
Like what everyone else said. Its all about the team. I was stuck like you and wanted to pick thief or guardian. I chose thief because I loved the mobility and the pure burst. Although you are a bit squishy there still are ways to get out but the same cant be said for gaurdian. Plus I’ve always liked to play a dps character and dps gaurd isnt really needed in pve. In pvp I consider myself to be better than the average with about 2k games on my thief. Its just fun having to quickly decide what to do so you die.
And on Fort Aspenwood. Happened twice now.
So FA had about 16 min left of the Scarlett battle and we all disconnected. Happen to anyone else?
Ty guys. I’m trying out the build now. Seems to be working fine for me
So i’ve started doing dungeons as a d/d s/p standard 25/30/0/0/15. And i’ve been getting downed a lot or getting to a really low health. Any tips for me? I heard that d/p is a better set for beginners in dungeons, is that correct?
I’ve been having trouble finding good up to date dungeon specs that give explanations. Im new to thief and I want to finish my leveling through dungeons. Although I dont want to put together a random spec and go in. Also any pointers about how to “thief” and stay alive? And suggested weapon sets? Ive played dps guardian and d/d ele so I think i got the dodging part down.
To start with i already have an 80 guard and ele, warrior bores me to death, and ranger is just not my style. Basically I cant decide on a thief, mes, engi, and necro. I mainly do wvw and some pve. I like roaming but a class that can join in a random zerg walking by and contribute. I like melee but I also like a ranged option. I also like mobility, and being able to just change my build and go into dungeons and feel like i’m helping. Mes sounds perfect for me but its so slow in just general running around. Necro also sounds good but isn’t wanted for pve stuff. I don’t really know about engi, except that its complicated to master. Thief is also good and i like the high dps but its kind of a one trick pony with the same rotation. Which one should I pick?
So I just hit 80 on my guardian and im running around in circles trying to figure out what my build should be. The problem is I want something that works for roaming AND the occasional zerg. Should i try out the DPS healway build? The main issue im having trouble finding a build is because i don’t know if its outdated or not due to the Dec 10th patch changes. Im open for suggestions. Also need help with which stats i should focus on.
I’ve been bouncing back and forth between them although i do think guardian is way funner to play. But the reason i don’t want to make her my main is because i’m afraid of being relied upon in dungeon groups. Like if i’m in a dungeon or frac and i miss WoR it would be my fault that the whole team died. As a warrior i just go in and do dps and buff the party. I like doing dps and support but mainly dps. Although i do find warrior to be the boring-est class that anet ever made, it seems to be tailored to my needs the best. (Sorry for my rambling lol.)
Ah go asura or female human.
E L E! Mine is endless fun. It’s very useful in many secenes but not so much in spvp. BUT I like supporting a big wvw Zerg with my water fields or solo roaming with d/d. It’s also useful in pve and is wanted. Necro is a strong roamer and an ok zerger but doesn’t contribute much to a party in pve and such. Ranger is pretty much OK all around. It’s like the happy medium of everything. Not great but not terrible.
Every class is spam this spam that, your going to have to get used to it.
Can you give us details about yourself or your playstyle.Offense vs defense?
Ranged vs melee?
Single target vs AoE?
Burst damage vs steady damage?
Squishy with escapes vs tanky and reliable?
Your opinion on pets/minions?
Offensive
Melee
Single target but I need some AoE to tag people in wvw
Steady damage
Ive gotten quite good with dodging and all while playing my ele. But I wouldn’t mind something that had to move around a bit less.
Eh pets and minions are OK
First off, NO I WILL NOT REROLL A WARRIOR. I find the boring and I main ele anyways. So I was thinking of necro as an alt and I just tried it out in pvp and it seemed really fun. I know they are viable in wvw because I get squashed by them but what about pve? I heard that in pve they are like the worse things ever. Would I get kicked because I’m a necro?
So I have an 80 ele and have been really wanting an alt. I keep bouncing between all classes, and no I don’t want to face roll warrior because they’re OP. I like everything except engi for the most part. Although I want something that’s fun and has variety. Not like spam this and this skill on this weapon and switch, then spam this and this skill on that weapon to win everything. Ah what do you guys like best? Btw I’m mainly interested in wvw and pve (kinda).
So I just hit 80 on my ele (first time) and I’m wondering what gear to get. I have 650+ BoH 18g around 450k karma etc. I plan to do wvw (zerging) and pve most of the time. What stats are good and what kind of gear should I buy? Also build recommendations welcome!

I found having 20 skills at my disposable really fun and entertaining. I’ve seriously tried every class and most of them bored me to tears and others just got tiring over the time. Ele does have a bit of a learning curve but it’s fun. I mostly spend my time in wvw.
Can someone explain to me which ones are important and why I should get them for my ele? I’m a bit new so I don’t know everything yet.
So I’m about to hit my first 80 but the point is I’m new. I’ve only done CM story and AC story. If a new player came into your lfg would you mind teaching them? It’s just a question I’m not asking you to do it. I’m kinda nervous about being a burden to the group. Personally I don’t care if a new person joins as long as they listen to directions. Also what kind of gear and stats for an ele? I know how to might stack with s/d and I know that LH and FGS is good.
(edited by Hyde.6248)
I’m bouncing back between these classes. Don’t try to get me on warr or guardian because those bore me to death. A might stacking ele that knows how to dodge and what to do, or a sword/war horn ranger with spirit and that precision thingy that knows what to do?
Ya it usually takes 7-8 hours
Well the strongest and most wanted classes are
warrior,guardian,mesmer,elementalist,ranger,thief,engi,necro
this is a greatest to least list for pve. It’s also a mix of what I’ve seen before so don’t rely on what I say:).
Now since I don’t do pvp much my expertise in that area is a bit dry. But I think it goes somewhat like this
thief,warrior,mesmer,guardian,ranger,engi,necro,elementalist
Now that’s probably incorrect I think it’s kind of close.
Now for the fun department, I’ve tried a few classes.
Warrior is considered to be op in pve and pvp and I’ve played it for quite a bit and found it so boring that I wanted to cry.
I’ve played mesmer which is mostly a support class in pve and is wanted because of things like time warp and reflect. Besides that it does some pretty poor dps but the shatter build can be quite nice in pvp, I liked the class and enjoyed it but got bored and it’s probably because I like to play classes that can bring more to a party dps-wise.
Elementalist is very fun but hard to level on the beginning. There’s a huge debate about whether if it’s a good or bad class. It CAN be good in pve and maybe in pvp if you know what to do. It can actually do the most damage in a party if you know what to do and use the conjured weapons. Hard to get the hang of in the beginning.
Guardian is my favorite class imo. It can be fun and very useful in party’s and in pvp or wvw or whatever you want to do. It’s probably why everyone and their mothers on my server play it.
I’ve tried a thief for a bit and they only really shine in pvp because of stealth and backstab and heart seeker etc. It’s kind of fun but it gets boring spamming the same skills. They’re kind of good in pve but not considered the strongest.
I haven’t really tried the other classes but at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter which class you pick as long as you’re enjoy it and are having fun.
Ok how’s this?
Intel core i5-3230M
Intel Core i3 3120M
I just need something that can run the game smoothly on best performance. I don’t really care much about the graphics. No lag and barely any is more important to me haha

I’ve been considering starting a ranger but since I mainly do wvw and dungeons I wonder if it would be worth it to make the ranger my main.
I like warriors. They have high DPS so it’s easy to kill things and healing signet. But one downside is that I feel like its horrendously boring. I started out playing mesmer then ele so I was attached to all the spell effects. Warriors had none so the whole time I felt lie I was just spamming F1 and 3 on longbow and 2 on GS. Which is why I switched to guardian. Blue fire. I mean like who DOESN’T like setting stuff on fire.
Take a look at this thread
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/86408-unique-advantages-each-class-brings-to-the-party/
Since I mostly only do WvW and dungeons which one is best? Which one can contribute the most to a party.
I’ve already rolled warrior and found it pretty boring. Always spamming the same skills. I would main ele if they didnt suck atm
I’ve played 3 other characters and grasped their concept pretty well but I seem to be having trouble with thief. What weapons are best for leveling and pve? And are there any rotations that kill stuff quickly or are important to learn?
I’ve been considering rolling one but since I’m mostly into dungeons and wvw I wonder if its what I’m looking for to be my main.
Im a bit new to dungeons on the ele and I usually run with staff. But I’ve been seeing mixed feelings about it and in some cases people say that S/D could be better. Any suggestions?
I’ve been using sword/pistol and staff but staff seems kind of weak and I’ve heard that sword/focus could be better.
