What runes to use with this build?

InfernoHero.5687

You probably won’t be able to use might on block very effectively.
If you want to share might with your allies, you would be better of with a build based on “Phalanx Strength” in combination with “Forceful Greatsword”, instead of going deep into the defense tree.
I don’t know how up-to-date this is, but it should give you a general idea about how the build works.
Edit: I am speaking about PvE content atm, if you are talking about WvW, I have no idea

Can you suggest a better build for Axe/Shield/Longbow? Changing my gear is out of the question as I mostly do world bosses and soldier’s gear is best for them as they cannot be critically hit.

I’ve built a pretty fun build that gives me and my allies might everytime I block, but I can’t quite figure out what runes I’d like to use. It seems like Holbrak would be fun, but I want some more opinions.

I have had an Asure for almost two years, and I’ve noticed problems with him. I made a Charr two days ago and I found so many problems I could cry.

List of headache inducing stuff:

1. An Asura in light armor can NOT have a greatsword unless they are alright with the blade going straight through their leg and/or armor.

2. On an Asura, the durmand priory heavy armor chest and legs don’t line up properly. This causes a texture seam.

3. On an Asura, the T2 cultural armor (Heavy) chest and legs don’t connect. I’m left with a floating torso.

4. On an Asura, the T1 cultural armor (Light) clips with the legs really badly unless you go with a really tiny body.

5. On an Asura, the T1 cultural armor (Heavy) clips with the legs no matter what you do.

6. On a Charr, shields float. They float on your back, they float while you’re holding them, they just float.

7. Charr Tails clip through every armor ever.

BONUS NORN ISSUE!!!!!!

There’s a red line going straight down the center of the front, back, and both sides of the T1 cultural gear. (Heavy)

Everyone can heal in this game. Here’s how for each class:

Warrior: Shouts can heal, Banners can Heal through Regeneration.

Guardian: Your symbols can heal, your shouts can clear conditions like crazy, you have a few utility skills that heal in AoE, one of your virtues heal, You can make giving out boons to your team heal you, etc. You get the idea. Heals, Heals, and more heals.

Elementalist: The entire water attunement is built for healing and support. With your blast finishers + Water fields, you can give mass AoE healing.

Necromancer: Your well of blood is an AoE heal, your life steal can heal others, and you basically make yourself have a second health bar if you use your class mechanic correctly.

Mesmer: I think one of the mantras can heal? Not sure about this class.

Ranger: There are a few pets that heal, and you can make your pet pick up downed allies.

Engineer: Same as Elementalist, almost. You have water fields and blast finishers, but you also have a turret that can heal in an AoE kind of like a necromancer well.

Thief: You have an AoE heal with one of your stealth skills and with the correct healing skill, you can heal yourself when you land a hit.

Well, think about it.

You’re a plant dude surrounded by a kittenton of other plant dudes that do plant dude stuff.

All of a sudden, this cat dude walks around with this mechanical thing.

You start to question what that is, look it up, research, then start to build some of that stuff yourself.

Very interesting thread you linked. I’ll dig around on the issue some more.

Looking at all that has been tried, and seeing that it is GW2 specific and does not seem related to the game files in the installation folder (as they have been wiped and reinstalled), it may be related to the local.dat game preferences file which does not get removed with a game uninstallation, nor checked/fixed in a game repair scan.

That person mentioned this as having been tried already:
4. Deleted GW2 .dat files.

But they do not list the names of the .dat files that they deleted so I am not sure if they already tried clearing their local.dat preferences file. They may have only deleted the .dat files in the installation directory and not the local.dat file stored elsewhere.

Considering the issues others experienced with the graphics settings after some game updates, I would recommend removing the local.dat file so it can be replaced with a new one.

You could also first try lowering all in-game graphics down to their lowest settings and see if the artifacts persist. Then raise them up one at a time to see if it is linked to a specific setting (as well as settings in your CCC to see if a specific setting there is causing the problem).

If needed:

Delete the local.dat file
Deleting this file will also cause you to lose your saved game settings (graphics, stored login data, etc). If you rely on your stored login info to log in, make sure you can recall what your login info is as the stored login info is also cleared.

The quickest way to do this is to:

  • Ensure your game is completely closed.
  • Hold your Windows Key and press ‘F’ to open your Windows Search.
  • Search for “Local.dat”. 2 files may be found.
  • Ignore the “Local.dat” file that is in the game installation folder if one is found there.
  • Delete the “Local.dat” file that resides at:
    “C:\Users\YourComputerUserName\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2”
  • Load up your game normally and see if the artifacts persist.
  • You will notice that your settings are reverted to default. You should reconfigure your game settings once again to your preference.

Just did as you said. I’ll reply again if artifacts begin to pop up again or in a few hours if they do not. (And once those few hours go by, I’ll keep watch on the thread for a few days and reply if they pop up after that.)

Requested your thread be moved to the Tech Support forum so it can be sure to get more help from people who assist with these issues.

As for the issue, I would first run a -repair on your game client to see if it is related to a damaged game file that would then be repaired.

Afterward, if the issue persists, I would do a proper full removal and cleanup of your AMD drivers and CCC software. Then do a reinstall of the latest non-beta drivers.

Those are the first two things I would recommend.

Repair steps if needed:

Check the game for errors and repair it

  • Close your game completely.
  • Next, make a copy of your Gw2 game shortcut and rename it “GW2 Repair” or to something that you will recognize it for being only for running a repair on your GW2 installation.
  • Now, right-click this “Gw2 Repair” shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Shortcut” tab look in the “Target:” field, you should see:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” or wherever you have Guild Wars 2 installed.
  • After the closing quotation marks in this line put a single space and then after that space add -repair
It will look like this but with your GW2 install location:
    “C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” -repair
  • Hit OK after making this change.
  • Run this repair shortcut. Your game will run through a repair cycle and fix any damaged files it finds.
  • After it runs through, start the game using the normal GW2 game shortcut (not the repair shortcut) and see if the issue persists.

I’ve been having this problem crop up randomly (Maybe once a day or up to three times a day if I’m really unlucky.) I’ve since uninstalled/Reinstalled GW2 countless times, uninstalled/reinstalled drivers, and tried very hard to find any possible issue with my GPU. Nothing’s wrong as far as I can tell.

I honestly think that it’s a bug that’s been there since launch. That’s the only way I can explain being able to pass stress tests with flying colors, but getting artifacts in the game.

Here’s someone with my EXACT same GPU having the same issues as me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rKL_lSZhNY

Ever since launch, I’ve been getting artifacts randomly. Normally it stems off of player models, but it can really be anything.

Before anyone points out that it could possibly be my GPU failing, I’ve run stress tests. No errors come from my GPU, heat is an average of 40 degrees while in-game, and no other game causes artifacts.

Here’s an Imgur album of the artifacts I experienced about ten minutes ago.

How hard is it to create titles?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: InfernoHero.5687

InfernoHero.5687

I know a bit of the stuff that goes on behind the curtain, and I think I can shead some light on two facts:

What is hard:
Creating the code for how titles work. You basiclly have to create a way for the game to display words under/over the in-game character’s name. This isn’t really hard since it’s been done a thousand times before, but it is really time consuming. Considering THIS part is already in the game, let’s move on to…

What isn’t hard:

Making a new title.

If ArenaNet really is the awesome game devs I think they are, there’s a little edit box somewhere that just lets them type in words to make a new title. After that, they tie it to unlocking an achievement and then everything’s a-go.

Looking for guild!

Posted by: InfernoHero.5687

InfernoHero.5687

Hello InfernoHero,

I currently lead a casual PvX guild in Yak’s Bend (but we accept members from any server). We have been running guild missions every week for over a year now without fail. We host them every Friday open to the public including today. Here is our public posting for today. http://redd.it/2mznrb

Our guild is mostly adults, pretty laid back, and have more of a focus on being social and playing together than anything else. It gets pretty routy in our teamspeak and guild chat so “mature” chat should not be an issue.

We are not a meta guild by any means. We are not gear/build discriminate on our guild dungeon and fractal runs.

We do make sure of teamspeak 3 and the core of our guild is on there every evening. Yes, there is cursing, you should fit right in. We do not make it mandatory for members to be on there but we do require it if they wish to participate in dungeons or fractals.

I believe we have proper leadership…. really because I am the leadership… I have been running this guild for a decade now. I do delegate leadership duties out so the guild functions in my absence, but the buck stops with me. I cant promise that there will be 24/7 coverage to solve problems like you described, but I have never had such an issue where arguments exploded in the absence of management to where a newer member had to mediate it. Some of our members do like to have heated debates about the game and what is effective, but trolling and personal attacks are never acceptable and people like that are not tolerated here.

We do not cookie cutter recruit so each member is talked to and invited on a individual basis to ensure they will fit in well and that their needs will be met here.

If you want to read some basic info about us you can do so on our most recent recruitment post.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/recruitment/XHSA-seeking-members-interested-in-LS2-groups/first#post4574829

I think you would be a good fit for us and hope to hear from you soon.

-Mireles

You sound really reasonable. Give me about a day to wait on more replies, but you are really awesome right now. I’ll read up on your guild in the mean time.

The Grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

InfernoHero.5687

While I still like this game; at times it can feel like a grind, more so when trying to up gold levels as I don’t flip stuff on the tp or run dungeons every day.

Only worry about gold if there’s something you want. In which case, never grind for that goal.

So you want to work up 100g to get one of the new pact weapons. Ok, there’s ways to do that without grind.

1. Always do your daily stuffs. Use the laurel on heavy crafting bags and sell the mats for a gold.

2. Have a guild, run their guild missions. If you do puzzle+rush+bounty that’ll get you six commendations. Use those on gear boxes. Sell all dat.

3. Run a dungeon or two each day. Don’t join zerk only groups, though. They rarely communicate. Instead, make your own listing helping new players learn the path. With this, you’ll communicate with your party and joke around. Have fun with it. Just because you’ve run CoF p1 five hundred thousand time doesn’t mean it’s not still fun to bring a new group in and amaze them with how well you can get past those flaming boulders. The same situation of amazement can be achieved by melee soloing the troll in HotW.

4. Never ever ever do something just because it will get you a gold. NEVER. Don’t like Edge of the Mists? DON’T DO EDGE OF THE MISTS.

5. Go out and explore! You can gather mats while you do and that doesn’t take long for you to gain a few gold. Use jumping puzzles to have fun and grab achievement points.

InfernoHero.5687

About Me:

I’m a 20 year old college student.

I’m a pretty avid player that’s online almost every day. I’m Pretty familiar with playing Guardian, Warrior, and I’ve just now started to learn Mesmer.

I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 since launch day.

I mostly stick to PvE, casual dungeon runs (Non-zerk groups,) and Edge of the Mists, but I do hop into WvW if I have friends that need help defending or if there’s a good zerg happening. I also play SPvP hotjoin games if I get the urge to.

I Role Play a bit when I have nothing else to do, and I like discussing different character ideas in /g.

What I’m looking for in a guild:

I’m looking for a pretty good guild that runs guild missions weekly. It’ll need to be pretty laid-back, and allow for a mature guild chat. (I’m not saying I’m going to curse like a sailor, but I’d like to be able to speak freely in guild chat without worry of someone freaking out “FOR THA CHILDRENS!”) I mean, come on. This is a game where you can pretty easily find a charr and asura in some very questionable acts if you happen to go into the right Inn at the right time. I kind of want to make fun of times like that. (I mean seriously! Go use a home instance for that!)

I need a guild that’s not really heavy with the meta. I never use zerk gear on any class unless it really makes sense to me. (A Necromancer for example, because I like to use axe/dagger and dagger/x) You’ll never really catch me using zerk gear on my warrior or my two guardians. Once I get my Mesmer leveled, I might be using zerk on him.

I’d like for the guild to have some form of voice chat, but it’s not really mandatory. I use curse voice, mostly. A mumble or teamspeak would be cool to have, be again, not all that high on my list of “Must Haves” for the perfect guild.

I guess the one big must have is proper leadership. I’m coming from a guild that just had a little episode with a memeber running around blasting characters in the face with his trumpet while others were trying to listen to someone play a harp. That eventually blew up into a big argument with me trying to calm everyone the kitten down. There were NONE of the guild staff online to handle it, so it got really out of hand. Many versions of the phase “Chill the kitten out” were typed by me that night, and I’ve been in that guild for less than a month. When one of your newest members is having to keep the peace, you know ya’ll done messed up.

Server: Tarnished Coast (Does this even matter anymore? Global guilds kind of messed with guilds recruiting from one server, didn’t they?)

Attached picture lists what characters I have and what levels they are. I’m pretty dedicated to leveling my Sylvari as soon as I can.

You can sheath or draw your weapon whenever you want (out of combat), which makes you go from four legs to two legs.

By default this command is not bound. You will have to assign a key binding for it.

After a while out of combat you will automatically sheath your weapons though.

Or, if you play Engi, just pull out a kit. You can’t put those away when OOC.

So, there was a recent post on the Assassin’s Creed Subreddit where a (Supposed) Ubisoft developer went into great detail about how some game companies will run their devs for days on end, working up to 80 hours a week, and basically focusing their lives solely on developing the games in order to make more money for the company.

So, I wanted to ask:

How are the devs treated? Are you guys happy? Game development can be pretty stressful, and I can only imagine what it’s like to read the really long threads complaining about things like the NPE.

You guys should know you’re awesome. This game is awesome. We complain so much because its awesome.

InfernoHero.5687

Holy crap. It really looks like the devs are listening here. I really don’t want to waste this chance.

Here are my big issues currently:

1. I can’t stand not getting one skill point every time I level. That was actually what made leveling fun for me. I know it sounds silly, but that single skill point kept me going for the next level.. and then the next one, and the next one, and the next one, and the… Yeah. You get it.

2. Unlocking traits SUCKS. I’m not joking. I think every single person that plays this game would be happy as heck if the devs just said “Screw it!” and put the old trait system back in but kept the new UI. Let us use traits again! PLEASE!

3. Simply put, I want build Templates that also store my gear. I want to be able to make a build for WvW with Soldier’s gear, save that, and then be able to switch to a zerker greatsword build and have my soldier’s gear be stored somewhere and replaced with zerkers.

A new bank tab maybe?

4. Leveling Alts is a pain. I want a simple and easy way to transfer levels/EXP between characters.

Two examples:

a: Let’s say I have a level 54 Necromancer. It’s a human, but I really want to have an Asura instead. So, let me drain the levels from my Human Necromancer and use them to give a new Asura Necromancer all of that EXP/levels. (Possibly at a loss? I don’t really see any balance issues that would crop up, so a loss isn’t really necessary.)

b: I have a Norn Warrior, but I want a Norn Guardian instead. My Warrior is level 80 already, so I really want to keep him. So, let me have an “EXP bank” to store all of those extra levels in. Let me then spend them on new characters.

The “U” on your CPU stands for Ultra Low, basicly.

It’s built to save as much power as it possibly can to prolong battery life.

Since GW2 uses the CPU more than the GPU in almost everything, having a bad CPU pretty much means you won’t have a fun time.

May I ask why you need a laptop? You can build a desktop yourself for around $1700 and it’ll run GW2 flawlessly.

sure if u have to hold down that key i will agree with you

You press Tab once to lock the camera into movement mode.
You press Tab once again to release.

One press does one action.

Combat Mode simply allows you to use your left and right click for something other than camera controls. It frees those two keys up for the players that would rather use their mouse for something else.

The fact that it doesn’t need you to hold the button down to lock the camera could actually be considered a DISadvantage considering the time you have to take releasing the camera if you need the pointer back.

Please view this quote from ArenaNet:

As part of ArenaNet’s policy on third-party programs, we are often asked about multi-boxing and the use of macros. Here is our policy:

Macros

Guild Wars 2 players are permitted to use macros as long as the macros are programmed with a 1 key for 1 function protocol.

This means that if you program a macro, it must require one keystroke per action. You may not program a single key to perform multiple functions.

For example, if you Press A and it results in the casting of a single skill, you’re ok. If you Press A and it casts multiple spells, you’re not ok.

You cannot program a macro to performs the same or multiple actions on more than one account at a time.

You cannot program an “auto-clicker” macro that, for instance, opens chests while you play elsewhere.

Scource: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/news/1043-macros-multi-boxing-and-guild-wars-2/

Combat Mode complies with their “One key press = One action” rule.

So you quote said thread i already stated i read and say since its ok for music its ok for combat?

Macroing music cant in any way affect combat.

Macroing so you can move your camera around easier do affect combat, maybe instead of useing a third party program make a suggestion to get a toggle added in game?

I quoted the music macro thread for emphasis. The real point there was the second post I quoted.

Did you not read my post at all? I stated that it does effect combat.

It effects combat in the same way rebinding your keys effects combat. Read the last line of my post. (The one above yours.)

Please answer that question.

Edit
Anet them selfs added a time table when every boss will be on everyday if i dont remember wrong so that point is moot.

Voice coms sure affect combat in making the people more organised but it dont change the game client in any way

You are forgetting the fact that before AreanaNet added those timetables to the wiki, the only way to get these timers were through third party websites and programs. There were even overlays that allowed you to see the boss timers AND the WvW maps.

ArenaNet has proven that they were perfectly fine with these maps and boss timers by making their own boss timers. You can find them on the wiki for Guild Wars 2.

As for your point about Voice Coms not changing the game client in any way: Neither does Combat Mode.

Combat Mode is an Overlay.

That give an advantage of not having to hold down a button that you have to hold down if you dont use said overlay.

So just becouse arena net cant review every overlay all is ok?

it stated that even if maybe it give an advantage you should not use it or use it on your own risk.

So, is using Auto Run an advantage?

Players that use Auto Run do not have to hold down a key to run, so is that an advantage?

Combat Mode is an Overlay.

and anet stated were it was ok to do this? i read the thread about macro music but this is helping him in combat he/they useing said program dont need to hold down a button everyone else have to if they want same function.
So an advantage

Please review this post from the Music Macro thread:

This post has become extremely combative and rude. I am going to lock it now (and ask a moderator to review with an eye on the possibility of doing a little clean-up because a few people here are well across the line.)
You will find our official position in this thread, and in no way does that stated position run counter to previously posted statements about the use of third-party programs. I invite you to read the official statement here. Note that all statements, whether about generic third-party programs or macros, are based on the prohibition against something that gives a player a gameplay advantage. A music macro does not give a gameplay advantage in the same way a speed hack or a bot program would do, and that is why there is no prohibition against the use of a music-making macro.

This posts links to THIS post:

ArenaNet cannot approve or review or “vet” any third-party programs. Our general policy is that anything that gives advantage is forbidden; anything that imbalances the game in favor of one player over another is strictly disallowed. With that said, we are aware that some utilities help players without impacting others, that is, they do not give anyone an advantage over someone else.

Our development team is not able to review third-party programs to kitten their components or give them any sort of approval. We make our policies clear in our User Agreement, Rules of Conduct, and the Conduct Breaches and Outcomes document, which you can find in the Legal Documentation section of our website: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/ You should know the following:
If you chose to use any third-party program, you do so at your own risk.
We cannot offer support if the third-party program impacts Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 and, for instance, makes the game unplayable.
If you choose to use what you believe to be a “benign,” or non-advantage-giving program, be sure to get it from a legitimate source to protect yourself from the possible addition of cheats or key-loggers.
The best way for a player to kitten whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:
“Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
“Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
“Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”
If the answer to any of these questions is “yes”—or even “maybe”—then we strongly recommend that you do not use the program because to do so may place your Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 account in jeopardy.
In the future, we will be working directly with the community to develop app support for Guild Wars 2, so stay tuned for more info!

This does NOT state that all third party programs are against the rules.
This states that ONLY programs that give you a gameplay advantage over players that do not use the program are against the rules.

You have stated that the only advantage this program might give is allowing a player to re-bind the effect of right clicking. That is possible through MANY other means other than this program. I’m pretty sure some operating systems are even capable of that.

If we are to say that the ability to right click with a different key is a significant enough advantage over a player without Combat Mode, then what about all of the third party programs that allow you to view WvW maps? What about world boss timers? What about voice chat overlays like the Teamspeak overlay that allows for better and more refined team communications?

I would argue that the ability to see what boss is about to spawn when and where is a MUCH larger advantage in the game, and yet ArenaNet allows those programs/Websites/Tools with no issue. They have even implemented a tool for boss timing in the Guild Wars 2 Wiki.

Not all third party programs are bad hacks that should been seen in the same light as speed hacks or flight mods.

Combat Mode simply allows you to use a different control scheme that does not give you an advantage over any other player in the game. If we were to state that Combat Mode does something that allows one player to gain more advantage than a player using the default key bindings, then we would have to state that allowing different keybinds at all gives one player a significant advantage over another since they are allowed to set their keys to what is most comfortable for them.

Do you see a more comfortable control scheme as an advantage?

third party program thats against the eula and structual design into said hardware that game cant detect seem like a big differance

So… basically for you the difference is “I can’t get caught using this.”

You realize neither are against the rules, right?

No if i press a button and hold it in then im doing it manualy, if i press button release and game still making it that im holding that button its automated for me.

If the toggle was in the game fine it aint so its not inteded to be used that way.

Edit
Pressing one action holding another 2 actions

What about computers that naturally toggle right click on/off for the disabled? (Yes, they exist)

No its a toggle and a toggle that aint in the game.
Hence a macro since you make the click do more then just activate,
it activate it and its holding it activated untill you press again.

A Toggle is a Keybind. You’re still pressing one button to do one action.

However, the EULA does still state no macros. Use the macro at your own risk. The only comment on the posted thread was that CS does not intend to punish those players using a macro to play instruments. You’re not asking to play an instrument. I would personally be wary of any macro that would have an effect on actual combat.

They can’t officially approve any macro.

This isn’t a macro.

You still press one button to “Activate” right click, so that is a keybind. Not a macro.

You still press one button to use one skill. (Left click to auto attack, Right Click to use your second skill) That is a keybind. Not a macro.

I would rather have skill points movable from character to character because a character that could insta-level to 80 would be badly kitten. (<——oh come on now, I used a word that is also the name of a huge image creating program)

An NPC where we could exchange a certain number of skill points for a Scroll of Knowledge would take care of some of the current trait problem and provide a use for all of those unused skill points.

YES! +1!

Trying that program now. Wow, where has this been all my [GW2] life?

On Reddit.

It’s really simple to use, and it offers no advantage. I’d wager half of Guild Wars 2’s player base uses it with no issue.

According to Arena Net’s change in Macro policy, You are allowed to use programs as long as they do not give a gameplay advantage.

(View this thread for proof: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/audio/Sad-truth-of-playing-the-ingame-instruments/first)

Therefore, you should be allowed to use the program known as Combat Mode.

You can find the program here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/10s4s6/combat_mode_11/
