It will be really jarring if they just plonk the Revenant into the existing personal story.

My personal hope is that they create a new personal story/modify the existing one specifically for the revenant. Change the characters from DE out of the beginning and have the order dialogue focus on Mordremoth rather than Zhaitan for the rest

Why an expansion all of a sudden?

For those complaining about the Sylvari taking centre stage they’re the race we know the least about and the LS is about the Jungle dragon which has explicit ties with the Sylvari.

Yeah we get why they’re at the center of it…but they were also at the center of S1 of the Living Story with Scarlet and in the personal story with Treesus. Yet another story revolving around Sylvari is a little tiresome.

Trehearne doesn’t really have any bigger a part than your race story or your order story, and the only order with Sylvari is Priory so I think PS is pretty well balanced in terms of races. LS S1 had a Sylvari main villain for all the same reasons we’re seeing a Sylvari centred S2.

Will people complain that the story is too focussed on the Norn when we fight Jormag? Or the Charr when we fight Kralk?

IMO it would be stupid not to have the Sylvari as a major player in the Mordy storyline, it’s a no-brainer. Plus it’s been pretty cool for me from a lore perspective as I know plenty about the other 4 races already from GW1, and very little about the Sylvari

Tbh it was my favourite LS patch to date. I didn’t find it any shorter than any of the other releases… it definitely was longer than last patch.

The content was different to what we’ve had before, and it looks like the story is actually developing lore rather than just meaningless fights and zerg content.

For those complaining about the Sylvari taking centre stage they’re the race we know the least about and the LS is about the Jungle dragon which has explicit ties with the Sylvari. To me it’s a no brainer. Also Sylvari have always been my least favourite race, but atm I’m coming to appreciate them more and more for what they are and that wouldn’t be the case without the LS

Camp a base and have the lfg tool open in a corner somewhere so you can see if you get lucky for a random goodhearted taxi. That’s the way I did it… in the end I didn’t need a taxi, got 3 just by them appearing when i was defending the fort and the last one randomly when running to replay Caithe’s Recon Squad mission on an alt.

Yes it requires a bit of luck, but in my experience not so much that you won’t get it organically just by playing the map. Which tbf, is how map specific achieves should work.

Or these new raids that are supposedly in the pipeline…

That would suggest we would not see Rytlock again for months or potentially even years.

As far as we know they haven’t even started working on Raids yet after all.

Yeah true. Personally I wouldn’t be against Rytlock just disappearing for a crazy amount of time. Don’t get me wrong he’s probably my favourite DE member, I just think it would be an interesting line for the story to take – especially if we had some way of trying to get Asuran research into probing the mists for him etc. However with these teaser images it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.

Seeds of truth.

I’m quite sure that Rytlock’s escape will be tied to either Fractals or WvW. (Most likely the former.) The players have to go into a specific Fractal and help him escape back to Dessa’s Lab, from which we can then return to Lion’s Arch.

Anyway, that image and the byline is extremely interesting… The way I look at it, the most obvious conclusion is that “they” refers to Rytlock, who is a prisoner of Mordremoth. (Somehow. It’s unclear how he got out of the Mists in the first place, unless that scene is from a place in the Mists which shows a potential alternate timeline where Mordremoth has been successful in beating back the Pact.)

Or these new raids that are supposedly in the pipeline…

I disagree with your interpretation of “they” though. I think it’s clear that “they” refers to a collection of people rather than just one Charr. If it is indeed Rytlock, when you combine it with the image of him wearing a blindfold, could it mean the human Gods are being kept trapped in the mists by the Elder Dragons?

Question to every player:

Do you want this changes to be happen or not ? What is your thoughts about this system in future.

I prefer the BL key if I’m honest. I have more than 3 level 80s and this reward gives me a reason to play the story arc more than 3 times (which I’ve done).

Having the option to choose isn’t a bad idea, but honestly I still think I’d pick the key each time anyway. I’m not one of those players that must have the luminescent armour straight away though, so I’m just accumulating the required bandit crests at my own pace. I don’t have all the fangs anyway so why rush to get all the crests.

Some people (like myself) don’t want the luminescent armor. I just want the three sets of carapace armor, which I now can’t get unless I partake in days long grindfest.

I’ve spent maybe 3 hours in the SW since the last update, and I got my first extra Gloves box last night by buying it with crests. If you’re into pvp you can do it that way instead. It really isn’t that big a deal to get it through playing the content. It might feel like a mega grind to get the skins if you must have them straight away, but it’s very manageable to get all 3 skins before the next patch just by playing the zone a couple of days a week and doing the story as it is. My comment about getting the Luminescent skin straight away applies to the carapace too. I want those skins as well ftr.

Spamming knockbacs is the right direction? Give me a 1 sec cooldown stability/stunbreaker skill and i will be ok. There has to be a balance in this game, though.

You can do the fight without getting knocked back at all, you just need to find the right spots. You can also dodge/block/stability through the knockbacks as they have a pretty obvious tell. The mechanics are all in place already in the game to deal with these things it just takes a bit of getting used to the way the boss works to manage it. If this is what we’re talking about for future raid/dungeon bosses then that’s perfect imo

Laberynth should had been an activity

Jimmy JimBob.2801

We should be able to join the laberynth from activities, have lot of achievements inside same as sprint sanctum (as example). That way we wouldn’t burn it out so quickly and will be able to be done in 4-5 months from now. Otherwise when nobody defend the fortresses anymore, most of the players will miss out the laberynth because it will rarely appear.

For future updates with similar mechanics, consider this suggestion.

People still farm Orr more than 2 years after it was bought in. People still farm Dry Top even with the SW in place now. People still run champ trains in FG. Assuming SW get’s more content over the next 2 releases too I don’t think there’s any guarantee at all that people will burn out on it and the zone will be dead in 5 months. Sure there will be less people playing the zone but taking out the labyrinth and making it an activity will actually do more harm for the map than keeping it in as it is imo

I finally managed this on my zerker ele last night (yes I could have done it on my tanky guard but wanted the challenge). I’d say a staff and IB is a must – you can skip straight to the charge phase after his first stationary spell with IB 4, staff 5 and 2 on fire. The only difficult bit is survivng the shout and charge phases in the last 25% but your auto attack on staff does enough damage to slowly get him down plus with the shield utility you can block the damage and thats enough time to get a meteor shower or IB4 off during the shout phase. The challenge is managing the cds of the block/invul utilities and dodges while being able to stay alive during the charge and add spawn phase. Pretty much everything one shots in challenge mode on a squishy so there’s no room for error.

If you want an armor set to “work” for, Luminescent is right there. There’s no need to add grind to Carapace too, especially when the old way worked just fine (and in a rare move by Anet, didn’t screw over people with alts) and still gave you the option to grind for it if you preferred.

Yes, I hadn’t considered the impact on those who just want the Carapace skin on their alts of other armour types. For those people it is a shame but I still agree with the change in general.

I haven’t had much time to actually play the new patch besides doing the story achievements, but today I played SW for one cycle. Got into a good map using the lfg tool and picked up a little over 200 badges and got 2 Greater Keys (one from lesser vines and one from completing the breach). So from that (very small sample size) it’s about 10 hours work to get all 3 carapace skins provided you don’t get lucky from the chest… for most players its very achievable. If you can play for less than an hour a day on average for the duration its easy – the only issue is for those who don’t enjoy the map. But then they’re map specific skins so what do you expect?

I still maintain that the BL key remains a better reward for altaholics as well.

Do you complain about having to grind to get a legendary weapon?

Are you seriously comparing an aesthetic for-fun armor skin with a legendary?

To get end game gear/skins you have to work hard, and that usually involves a bit of a grind. That’s the way it’s always been in MMOs and the way it always will be.

I distinctly remember playing well-populated MMOs that didn’t have these grinds. It’s definitely not ‘how it always was’, and I very much hope it is not ‘how it always will be’, since grinds are by definition boring and repetitive. Especially when the reward is in no way proportionate to the effort.

And also: I play games to have FUN, not to “work hard”.

There are lots of other nice armour skins available if you don’t want to grind out this skin then. Hell the carapace skins are nice in themselves. If you don’t have time or the patience to grind out a skin like that then fine don’t. Noones making you. That doesn’t mean those that want to shouldn’t be able to have a nice and pretty rare armour skin.

And yes what else are Legendaries other than a fun aesthetic weapon? Apart from being able to swap out stat sets, which i’ve never used on my own legendary it has no other benefit. It’s just a nice looking ascended weapon.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If you make it too easy to get everyone will have it and then it’s no longer worth having.

Who ever said I was going to even try under these circumstances? I’m someone who liked to play the story line on all my alts, partly from curiosity about how other classes perform and partly and unashamedly for the loot. Loot’s not worth it now, and I neither have the time nor the inclination to go running around following a zerg for days on end. Which means a lot less incentive to play this game, which in turn would rather indicate it’s bad game design, since I’m quite sure from the reactions I’ve seen that I’m not the only one who feels this way.

And incidentally, I completely disagree with the notion that things are only interesting if only a select few can have them. That’s an elitist attitude I can really do without, ESPECIALLY in a game that was once intended to be as casual friendly as possible. I’d much rather see all players able to achieve goals like this through diverse means, so all styles of gameplay are rewarded.

As to legendaries: actually, as someone who enjoys killing other players in world PVP, I rather disagree that these legendaries are just aesthetic. The stat difference between legendary/ascended and exotics may not be huge, but it’s definitely there, and differences like that DO count. Given the same player skills, the better stats WILL win.

Well given that you can apply your luminescent skins to ascended armour, and its still far easier just to craft a standard ascended weapon than it is to get a legendary I’d say it’s still pretty much just the same as an aesthetic thing. The only advantage it has over an ascended as I said is the stat changes, which don’t really make a huge difference imho.

Also as I’ve alluded to in either this thread or another the BL key is a far better reward than a skin which you are only ever going to want to get 3 times for altaholics. I’ve already completed this story with 3 toons, and I plan on running my other 3 level 80s through it. Something I won’t be doing with last episode, despite it being a bit more enjoyable imo. And as if not being able to get a single armour skin is going to cause you to quit the game… Surely noones that shallow…

There is a distinct lack of skins in this game that are not either dead easy to get, or involve spending a ton of gold/irl money to grab off the TP/gem store. They’ve finally added something to the game that people who enjoy a gear grind can get and show off without adding a power creep and suddenly it’s the worst thing in the world. Honestly… Anet can’t win either way.

At the end of the day this section of the LS will add 2 armour sets. One is dead easy to get, the other takes a bit of time playing the content that’s come with it. That seems like a pretty kitten good compromise to me.

I think he means that he doesn’t like to run around just to get 25 pieces of nightmare essence in order to get a key.

That said, if all 5 bosses are killed, a key drops. which just makes it even more worth finishing the meta successfully.

One of the problems is simply that there is sometimes too much going on or that there are almost no break times between assaults. WHich makes people burned out pretty fast at times. (Like 1 good run everything killed, the first 30 minutes of the next run, the map is barren and not many people do stuff, Then it picks up agian.

Yeah that’s something I find very frustrating. Get onto a good map that whizzes through the event no problem, get’s a full map for the breach and then BAM 10 minutes later it’s empty and back to finding a new map.

I like it alot. It’s nice having enemies that require more than the “stack here and run through skill combos without really looking at what the enemies are doing until they’re all dead” meta that is the majority of a dungeon run. Or the running around pressing 1 1 1 1 1 as in the majority of the PvE zerg content.

I also like the reward system they’ve introduced…. now you’re encouraged to stick around and help to complete the zone instead of just tagging as many enemies as possible as the highest priority.

For me it has a nice combination of fun and (relatively) challenging content while still making me enough money to not feel like I should be running dungeons or in Orr because I need cash.

Selfish kittens like you are why we can’t have nice things.

Do you complain about having to grind to get a legendary weapon? What about Ascended gear? Or the T3 cultural armour back before 120 gold was difficult to make. Likewise commander tags.

To get end game gear/skins you have to work hard, and that usually involves a bit of a grind. That’s the way it’s always been in MMOs and the way it always will be. Otherwise everyone would have them and they lose their appeal.

If you want to have nice things, do the work. At least you’ll have a warm feeling for a while about your achievement.

Farming chests/crests for this is not hard, it is just time consuming and boring (at least for me), which for me is the definition of: Grinding.

With the last patch, even Caiths Blossom can now be bought with crests, so you really do not need to achieve anything for this … you just need to grind.

Greetings

True, true. I more meant hard as in “hard work” as in time consuming, rather than difficulty. I too find grinding pretty boring, but at least for me I enjoy the mechanics of the SW and it’s a pretty nice way to kill a few hours with a couple of guildies while chatting about the weather on VoIP.

It’s a shame that they added a separate way to get Caithe’s Blossom other than completing the achievs… it also detracts from the uniqueness of that item Maybe it’s for people who want to have more than one ascended Sinister set rather than the Luminescent skin. I mean surely the achievs is still the fastest way?

But don’t we get a black lion key each time we complete it? I haven’t done it on an alt yet, but if that’s the case I"m happy with the trade off here.

Exactly… and once you’ve worked out how to kill the bosses quickly, its cheaper and takes about the same amount of time as a key farm run so it’s very much a win for alt-a-holics imo. Especially now that they’ve upped the drop rate of scraps in the last few months.

Personally I’m relieved that they’ve taken then gloves off the mission reward. Yes I’ve played last weeks story on 3 chars and got all the achievs so I can get the Luminescent skin but it’s still a lot of work to get the full set – a big commitment from me. I don’t want to do that if everyone is going to end up with the skins as well. The harder it is the less people will have it, and that’s a good thing for me. At the end of the day you’ve got to work hard to get nice things

Meh. As far as I’m aware, you can still farm keys much quicker the old way and the cost should still be at break even depending in what you craft. I did key farms over the summer and managed to actually make a profit from the crafting portion of the key farm.

Either way it’s still about knowing what to craft and how to do the run as fast as possible. Essentially the same here but without the crafting component. The only downside is this is only repeatable once per toon but it’s still a big reward for altaholics. Even more so I’d say seeing as this gives people a reason to play the story through more than just 3 times.

Run around him so he spreads his aoes out. If the buff does go in some aoe then either leave it and wait for the next one, wait until the aoe goes away or if youre desperate maybe try and find away to grab it from the field… Dodging through might work? Or popping an invuln skill

As for the light make sure you have the green buff from the mini you have to kill. then don’t leave the green light until the vortex is dead. If you leave your green thing will be stripped and youll have to get it again

I think I figured out who "E" is.

Could it be Ela Mackay? I know everyone’s assuming that E’s a male… but how hard can it be to change your voice slightly, especially if you have magic/a wealth of Priory magic artifacts at your disposal. I mean… Arrow and Batman do it and noone ever works out who they are

Having had a night to get over my initial frustration at being forced to replay the final story 2 more times through no fault of my own I definitely agree with this thread.
I was running around the library with a silly grin on my face for close to an hour (regret it now… having then been kicked with last boss on 30% for a stupid patch >.<) and the new map mechanics look epic tstl.

The final story instance had a wonderful level of challenge and diversity to make it a very entertaining, yet doable play through and the lore bombs gave me a kitten. Moar please

It’s definitely not a bug because you had to choose. I personally got 2 minors and one major from it. Not sure if rng was on my side or if that’s the mechanic there but yeah, was all merch food. I commented on how weird it was as a reward at the time.

Damage really wasn’t an issue for me. The attacks are so obviously choreographed with the red/orange circles and only actually cause a problem if you stray into the field attacks or accidentally go Fragile. On my full zerker dungeon warrior build I had no issues with the deaths.

For me the trickiest one to figure out was the first boss with Vortexes. I knew what I had to do but took me a while to notice he was throwing the Fragile circles onto the ground… The first couple of times he hit me direct so I started assuming that was the way to do it. The light boss was a very similar mechanic to the kill Scarlett part of S1 and also they’d shown us that you got the colour buff in the running bit before hand so I worked that out immediately. (Plus on a zerker warrior I was getting him 90% down after just one set of attacks)

The last boss just take loads of mobility and you’ll only get hit if you’re unlucky. Battle sigils would certainly help but I didn’t use them and was fine. Then the only tricky bit is knowing that you’ll get knocked out of the coloured light beams if you don’t have the relevant colour on you so mkae sure you get Fragile and colour buff before entering then dont leave until you kill the vortex. That and pray it doesn’t bug out/force a new patch on you >.< (not bitter)

My only gripe with it is the fact it can bug out on the last boss. I managed a successful run on my 3rd attempt – just ensuring I kited him around the triangle in the middle kept the Vortex spawning/spawning where its actually visible.

As for actually killing him it’s a fairly straightforward mechanic once you’ve worked it out, and personally im glad it wasnt just spoonfed to me. You don’t even need to worry too much about doing things in a perfect order you just need to be able to kill the Vortex inside the colour before you leave it. A number of times I killed the minion with fragile on – just make sure you dodge/block any damage.

You can only kill the green vortex with the Fragile buff and the Green thing from killing the minion. Then you have to go into the green light and not leave it until you kill the Vortex, otherwise you’ll just get knocked back

There’s a bug where the Vortexes don’t spawn

Yeah i found the mechanics simple enough to work out… but it doesnt help when no Vortexes spawn at all. Given up now. ill play it some other time

bump

Currently going through the already crazy cost of making ascended armour. For me to buy a new set of runes will cost ~ 50g. To extract them using extractors at the current gem conversion price ~240g. Absoultely ridiculous this new system – you’d have to be made to buy the extractors so why have them in there. Or do Anet just leave then there to rip off new players who don’t know better I wonder?

Please just give us an option to transmute in the same way the old stones worked. Please…
