I sure hope for a stable, real client. Most of my frustration with the game comes from the frequent disconnects that the Mac client has. I can’t do any dungeons because I’m never sure how long I’ll be online before the client decides to stop working.

STILL having numerous issues because of a poor Mac port, and yet the company continues to advertise multi-platform play. You are selling a broken product to mac users. Either ditch Mac altogether or finish a stable, working client. Please!

Ive had problems with the mac client. It disconnects after about 20 minutes of playing, and the Black Lion Trade market might work or it might never load. It’s hard to play due to technical issues.

GW2 has so much potential but Anet keep making decisions that hurt the game, or at best just keep it sitting in a state of mediocrity. They got rid of the trinity but kept trinity mob mechanics. They also made it so you can’t spec into a role. The Damage/Support/Control trinity they wanted to create is impossible because the traits don’t really do anything. And in PvE and WvW it doesn’t matter because it’s just easier and safer to slam DPS on your target and move on.

They need to revamp traits a LOT. They need to change all of these AoE attacks to single target so that the WvW zerg dies.

I really like a lot about the game but there are broken mechanics at the core that will keep it from being as great as it really could be.

The issue is that with all the mac games that run smoothly you would think they could work on this a lot faster. Get this thing out of beta! Get us a stable client that doesn’t lag out after awhile of playing.

I’m so tired of joining an sPvP game and finding a group of people dueling. It’s not that I hate dueling but I don’t join sPvP for that. Same in WvW. I’ve been yelled at plenty of times for helping a fellow fighter only to find out he was dueling with the now dead enemy. It’s not fun, and most people are pretty rude about it.

Please implement some way to duel so that it won’t get in the way of those who are trying to enjoy PvP on a larger scale. Even just letting us name our sPvP games so people will know it’s a dueling game, not a conquest. Something needs to be done.

I’m not sure if it’s just the mac client or if it’s universal, but I’ve been noticing a terribly high ping between my client and the server. Things on my end still run fine, I’m not rubberbanding or anything, but the world won’t respond to my actions. Other games and online browsing seems to be fine, so I don’t think the problem is on my end. Has anyone else been seeing this?

Since the patch Tuesday I have to open my task manager and manually shut down Guild Wars 2 client activity. When I log out of the game it all looks normal, no errors or anything, but my computer continues to run and the fan stays on, as if the game were running. I open task manager (ctrl+alt+dlt) and manually shut down the program and everything goes back to normal. Is anyone else experiencing this? Just wanted to let someone know.

EDIT: was merged in, didn’t see this topic. Good to know its being addressed.

Link PvE and WvW more closely together

Somehow incorporating the cities would be very interesting indeed. I made this post several days ago ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Out-of-End-Game-Create-a-never-ending-game/first#content ) simply wanting to add content to the world. I think all of these things could ultimately work together.

I was thinking about how great it was when the WvW bonuses finally started working in PvE. It gave people reason to get back onto the battlefield, and it made PvE players enjoy the idea of WvW more.
Would it be possible to make it so PvE affects WvW somehow? Perhaps by gathering materials and donating them to the cause (maybe creating a supply boost for a short time) or by having certain “spiritual high grounds”, areas of the PvE world where Tyria and the Mists intersect, that can be defended against waves of mobs. The more High Grounds a server holds will give some form of buff to it’s citizens fighting in the great battlefield.
I would love to see some way PvE and WvW could become even more connected. It would make the community more cohesive and give PvE players more options to do when they log in.

I think the combat in this game feels very stale.

Pre-launch I was under the impression that weapon skills were the dough and traits would be the ingredients that let you make a cake or a loaf of Rye. For example, I thought traits would let me spec my warrior to be a stun machine or a buff monster, using the exact same weapon setup but differentiating it greatly with traits. Instead we got this system where you can differentiate only slightly and it’s not creative or truly unique at all.

Out of End Game? Create a never-ending game

I’m not sure if “endless turmoil” is what GW2’s endgame is lacking. It kind of already exists, with the current dynamic quests and the Pact constantly struggling to take Orr.

The problem with this is that none of these events really put the world in danger. They happen, people clear them out so they can get karma or mine some node, and that’s that. Basically, only people interested in intentional farming are doing these events over and over. And that’s not bad, but it does leave out a group of players who don’t want to “farm” in the traditional sense. That’s why a more structured form of zone invasion/defense/whatever event could be really great: it fits with PvE lore, it won’t feel like grinding if it has multiple ways to participate, and it gives cause for groups to come together.

I like what you said about WvW. In my opinion it has the potential to be the strongest part of the game simply because there never is a lack of tasks, the battlefield is constantly changing, and people must work together, not by force but buy consensual necessity. WvW is the playground, hopefully Anet will give us more tools and toys to make great things happen. My idea would be in some ways a PvE simulation of what goes on in WvW. This, I think, might also get those who turned away from PvP for whatever reason more interested, and possibly bolster WvW ranks. Of course it could drain them as well if the events are awesome enough and the loot is phat enough.

As far as random events, I was thinking they would take place over at least a couple of days. Giant umbrella events, while most of the zones regular events continue to take place (unless the giant event gets too out of hand). This would allow for players to partake in the fortifying of defenses, planning of strategies, and actual combat even if they can only log in for an hour a day.

And I’ve been on Gates of Madness and Maguuma, and a lot of the time I play I don’t see others until I go to a city. I play on a 50 right now, and there are some events, particularly anything with a champion, that I’ve resigned to not completing because I can’t find enough people in the zone to take it down. I’m very interested in the updates coming this month, I’d love to see larger populations out in the world.

The premise, one that doesn’t show up in many games nowadays, is a simple one: Keep the world in constant turmoil.

Zones are empty, dungeons are run; people are starting to suggest that Anet adds raid content now. Raids are not the answer, and neither is gear progression. The community is growing jittery because there is an end to the content of GW2. It was designed as a story, and all stories have an end. Most games bandage this with expansions, giving players a new story to unfold. We all know those only last so long.

The only way to truly make a never ending game is to set up systems that keep the world in constant turmoil. Turmoil in this sense can be large or small: the centaurs took over Beetletun and if we don’t do something now they’ll take over the farms of Divinity’s Reach. Or it could be that the farmers need a hand harvesting their crops. Create a world with aspects of the fantastic and the mundane, and make those aspects need constant attention. Final Fantasy XIV had a good idea, before the reboot, to create Hamlet events. These were a couple of days long, in phases: Phase 1 was a crafting and gathering phase where people brought resources in and crafted defenses for the hamlet. Phase 2 was the battle phase, where you saw whether or not your defenses could help you turn the tide of war. Each zone is already set up for events like these: humans vs centaur, Charr vs Ghosts/Flame Legion, Syvari vs Nightmare Court/Krait, Asura vs Inquest, Norn vs Sons of Svanir. Not only that, but utilizing the elder dragons to create large scale turmoil within the world. Have events that cycle randomly, roughly every couple of weeks, where dragon minions start to invade lands. Things that not only draw attention but affect the world. As stated before, Beetletun could be completely unaccessible. Or it could be bolstered by players with defenses.

On the more mundane side of things, allowing us to help more than just “Kill the worms!” by utilizing our crafting skills to help NPCs. Tailor clothes for the orphans, cook food for the sick, repair buildings, etc.

I say these things are easy when I really have no idea how programming works at all, but they all seem to fit within the established systems that Guild Wars 2 already has up and running. I’d also like to mention that even these kind of events could grow dull to players, I brought them up to serve as the seeds for greater ideas.

Will we get events like CBE again?

Any word on the personality system?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Juzztn.1305

I have no idea what you were hyped for, but not for the personality system that the devs talked about pre-release. They always made clear that it would not unlock or differentiate content, but was just an option to answer in a different way, but with the same outcome. Which is basically exactly what we have.

They specifically said it would change the way NPC’s relate to your character. The only NPC’s that change are the ones who give you the options, and many of them you can answer multiple times so the whole point is moot.

focus MORE on the WORLD

Not only does the world need to feel more threatened by events that can change it permanently (or at least week long terms, basically something so huge it affects gameplay and inspires people to do something about it), but there needs to be more to do. Not just combat and escort, but mini-games and mini activities like helping farmers plant stuff or training troops or painting walls or SOMETHING. It’s a world but you really can’t do very much in it.

I’d also love to see very rare, random monster spawns that reward you with unique, monster themed armor and weapons. Things you can’t time, but are very exciting and rewarding to stumble upon when they show up, and give you cosmetic items to show you were there.

More variety of content

Juzztn.1305

I’ve noticed that the community isn’t nearly as chatty and vibrant in-game as I’ve seen in other MMOs. This is due to a few things:

Zones: Zones kill the greater community. Especially leveled zones. Once you’ve outleveled them there is no reason at all to ever visit them again. This leaves leveling players to do the work solo, and miss out on the great big champions. Also, because the world is broken up into so many zones you will only be able to chat with anyone if you’re in a guild (and if those guild members are online) or if other people are in your zone.

Not enough content: If you’re lucky enough to be in a zone with people chatting they are usually saying the same thing: LFG. This, I believe, is because once people kill Zhaitan there is absolutely nothing left for them to do in PvE except get a legendary, and the easiest way to do that is to run dungeons, so that’s what they do.

Now, by more content I don’t mean more fighting. That’s the big problem with this game, and most of the other MMO’s that have released in the last 5 years. The only thing you can really do is fight. So you fight, and you get better stuff to help you fight more, and then you find you’ve fought everything so you just find the most profitable things and fight them until you pass out. Guild Wars 2 has a lot of amazing features that free up players to really enjoy the game, but it’s all held back from its fullest potential by this very rigid design.

To truly enliven the community this game needs more things. Where are all the mini-games we were promised? The holiday ones are amazing, but they come and go and suddenly we are back to nothing but keg toss. I think I speak for everyone when I say “Give us more permanent mini-games!”

There’s not a lot to achieve in this game. Not very many rewards for going out and having a good time. Most are either earned in the story or bought in the gem store. Why can’t I find minis from boss fights, like in GW1? I know they didnt want to give people incentive to grind one boss over and over again but because the game is so tight in its focus (of fighting) that’s what people are doing anyway.

I don’t know how to implement these kinds of things into the game as it is, but I do believe wholeheartedly that if this game is going to stand the test of time and foster the great community that it could it will need a LOT more content, content that doesn’t focus on fighting things.

TL;DR GW2’s only true activity is fighting things. We need more types of activities to enliven the community.

Re-evaluate World Boss scaling

in Suggestions

Posted by: Juzztn.1305

Juzztn.1305

Now that the game has been out for a couple of months most people are reaching higher levels. This means lower level characters won’t have the pleasure (or pain) of zerging a world boss. In my experience with my lower level characters I can usually find a group of 7-10 around a boss but sometimes it’s lower.

Take for instance the Flame Legion Shaman in the Charr starting area. I tried to tackle him today to no avail. I was able to join 4 other players but even with the five of us we couldn’t take him down. Our failure was due to two big factors:

1) The Shaman still scales for massive, zerg level damage even though its only a dungeon’s worth of players.

2) The Flame Legion mobs surrounding the Shaman respawn so quickly you can never just focus on the shaman, and can quickly become outnumbered.

I think it’s a good time to start looking back over the scaling mechanisms and make them more compatible with smaller groups, even soloable.

NOTE: I’m not saying the big bosses should be easier. Things like the Swamp boss from the human area are meant to be large group events. My concern is with the smaller (in size and importance) bosses like the Flame Shaman.
