They did use player feed back to adjust AoE caps in beta.

The player caps have indeed changed since release. Twice, actually. You are mistaken on the player cap Kai. Unless you have a link to evidence that supports your suggestion.

At release people were citing 166 player caps, but the most I’ve ever seen is 76 on a freshly queued map after a map hop.

Map population did change. I would gather you do not actually know what the player caps are on EB or the BLs?

The limits did change. on both damage and buffs. Both based on player feed back. It went front unlimited, to 20, then to 5.

I disagree with you on the season. I feel the increased map ques and enthusiasm for effort invested, that i see, disagrees with you as well.

I am not saying they have mad perfect changes to WvW. Though I do get tired of the dishonest hyperbole every one loves to fling around.

The player cap is 80 and always has been since release.

Boon share and damage abilities have been limited to 5 since release. Unless you are talking about beta numbers the only skills that are uncapped are CC abilities.

Enthusiasm is great, but it isn’t exactly content. I could hype people up to play the best game of Soccer in their life, but at the end of the day it’s still the same game of Soccer.

I believe all the little things they have fixed have been extremely important for day to day WvW play, but the lack of content has evidently seen the mass exodus of the modern day player.

You chose to ignore facts, simply to support your negative attitude, that you want to have. That is fine. It doesn’t change the fact that it is disingenuous, given that a great many changes were made based on various CDI discussion, player feed back, or other discussion.

-They took out the water and added an entire new mechanic for points for spiking.

-They added righteous indignation to prevent flip spamming. Made multiple changes to it.

-Removed orbs from EB.

-Added WvW seasons.

-Added, restructured WvW trait lines.

-Ran tests for PPK

-Ran test for sword removal.

-Completely changed population cap per server map.

-Completely changed AoE cap to 5 due to massive community outcry.

-Completely changed boon buff cap due to massive community outcry

-Added different PIN colors.

-Added Art of war upgrades.

-Added siege razor to aid with under populated times on a server.

-Added new maps through edge of the mist due to massive community outcry

- Added siege names to the build sites to prevent troll siege from being built.

- Added slimmed down ram build sites.

- Added siege disablers.

I’m sorry but some of this information is incorrect.

-Map populations did not change, only server population limits were increased.
-The 5 man limit on damage abilities was always there. There was one change that made blocks and evades count towards the 5 player cap to avoid AOE hitting 6+ people.
- The boon cap was always 5 people, there was a change that prioritized party members.
ALL of those things are game wide and not WvW specific as well.

You also missed.

-Stealth and Supply Traps
-Siege decay timers and increased siege decay timer to 60 minutes
-Removed toys/gadgets from WvW maps
-Obsidian Sanctum was made into its own map with a large stadium to house player PvP events such as GvG and dueling tournaments.

And to be fair seasons was just a bunch of achievements added to the game that gave some vendor rewards that were lucky to include unique skins. Pretty minimal content wise.

Another important update was the fix to culling. However this was solved at a game wide level rather than a WvW level.

The issue is instead of encouraging people to join in on WvW you encourage an elitist attitude among players who will verbally abuse others who “are not pulling enough weight”. And the pestering of noobs to "get off [their] map".

Basically players will pester others to leave the map so they can boost their own points they could acquire.

Example when using a point system that boosts the score of weaker server.
We currently have 60% of this map capped [YAY!]. It is currently 50 of us versus 40 of them. “We THINK we are considerably better than our opponents and we don’t need these 10 other people on our team as they are boosting our enemies point values.” “YOU THERE. Yeah you on the upscale ranger leave WvW NOW!”

In hindsight the idea is good, but any concept where excluding players makes other players get more power/loot/xp/points triggers some nasty instincts in humans.

What you want to do is let the 2 second cast time happen without dodging, blocking, going invul, ccing him or moving behind any object that might block the attack.

That way when you go to the forums you can post a big hit of a full zerker warrior building up his adrenaline on you then managing to hit you with it.

Well the ones in teamspeak don’t die and you become the hilarious commander. kapeesh rallybot?

You’ll quickly become known as a troll and people will simply refuse to follow you. After that you’ll be like “guys I need everyone on me” and “if you’re not on the commander you’re doing it wrong” and “omg why do we have so many PVERS who don’t know how to follow commander on this server?!” and then ragebuy 1800 gems to transfer elsewhere.

Or you wipe them after with the group in teamspeak and not be bad.

BG is so big now they can fill a 5th BL – OS.

There weren’t many sor players because half our server is not stuck in queue.

The reason I compared the Elementalist was because it is one of the few 80’s I have that is built to be able to reach the 3.3k power I was using as baseline.

Which is a bit of ?? moment consider you could have rolled PvP characters, speced them all out in equal X power gear and just measured from there. It’d have been the same as I don’t think any of the involved skills have PvP splits.

The reason I question it, though, is because you’re trying to compare the melee damage of paper to the melee damage of heavies. These will not be equivalent and shouldn’t be compared.

The comparison to Guardian is more than fair tbh simply because mighty blow is the Guardians hardest hitting aoe ability on that weapon set, just at Earthshaker is currently the Warriors hardest hitting aoe ability on that weapon set. In that comparison the Warriors Earthshaker hitting significantly less, suggesting that there was a damage tradeoff for cc already, not to mention the build up and additional cooldown timer as a further tradeoff.

Mighty Blow is also the only ability on the weapon set that even does reliable damage, and it does not have a 2 second stun. Earthshaker is not the only reliable skill, it is not main-bar, and it does have a 2 second stun.

You can’t just compare their damage and then say “Because Earthshaker hits for less, it is fine!”. That hard CC makes it such that follow-ups also have a window to connect barring stun-break interference. Guardians don’t have such availability as Mighty Blow, irregardless of stun-breakers, cannot reliably set-up a hammer chain.

If you look a few pages back there was the Dev post that suggested they were okay with Hammer shock and Fierce blow hitting hard because they didn’t have Hard CC on them, however both these abilities hit like wet noodles.

They hit like wet-noodles in a vacuum. They don’t hit like wet-noodles in a Unsuspecting/Merciless Hammer chain. Guardians cannot even remotely set up such a chain when (a.) they don’t have traits that modify hammer in meaningful ways outside of 20% cooldown reduction, (b.) have no hard CC to set up hammer chains, and (c.) their attacks are as or even more so telegraphed as a warriors in hammer.

So in short, Mighty Blow rightfully deals a lot more damage when taking into account that it:

  • Cannot set up a hammer chain.
  • Has no hard CC -> At best has an immobilize and ward ability both of which can be avoided by simply walking to the side/away from a class that has zero cripples.
  • Has no partner attacks to chain into other than itself.
  • Is not a sixth weapon set skill.

You continue to compare the damage between the two skills saying that Earthshaker is free cc. You HAVE to build your adrenaline bar to achieve that CC!
The reason I don’t do these tests in sPvP is because as I said earlier this is from a organised WvW group perspective where the weapon in question gets almost all of it’s use.
You continue to bring up “Hammer chains” which isn’t a damage issue it’s a cooldown issue, the damage in question could be coming from anywhere.
To mention it once again, the traits that were there to build dps Hammer builds have been nerfed and/or moved to lower damage already. The weapons base damage doesn’t need to be touched at all.

Edit: Not to mention sPvP dummies are affected by crit and a whole load of other things which don’t concern the base damage.

December 10th Warrior Changes

yes sure, care to explain what exactly these “lot of suvivability” is ?

Probably somewhere between the “H” in Healing Signet and the last “e” in Berserker’s Stance. (And if you’re in WvW, somewhere between the “B” in Bogged March and the last “p” in Bowl of Lemongrass Poultry Soup.)

Its hidden in their, so it might be hard to see.

What part of this is a skill that needs to charge up to get that stun don’t you understand? You don’t even mention the cooldowns. The lightning whip is an auto attack with no cooldown that is hitting harder. Mighty blow is on a 5 second cooldown.

What I’m more interested in is why you are comparing Earthshaker, a sixth skill with hard CC, along side five other skills all of which are buffed to mercilessly high damage thresholds by a couple of traits, to a main-bar hammer skill with zero utility for a class that has exactly one trait that modifies the hammer in a meaningful way. Mighty Blow and Zealot’s Embrace are just about the only attacks on Guardian hammer that even do anything for damage (you’re not going to stand around and get hit by the main chain unless you’re dead at your keyboard (and this isn’t even an issue of telegraphs, the chain is so slow and depends on a symbol that you’d have to be daft to take damage from the majority of it), and getting hit by Banish requires you to be asleep).

More, why or how did paper-thin elementalists get involved in this? You should have compared it to the main hand axe for warrior hitting harder.

It can be frustrating to see lowbies on the map when it’s queued. Easiest way to avoid these players is be in a guild that likes to run tagless or don’t play large scale.
I feel like if they are new it’s not as poor as someone who has an 80 is making the choice to rely on their server or team more.
At the end of the day you all paid to play, so will never happen.

Useless is such a strong word… Every class has some sort of niche. The interesting thing about this thread is you don’t mention what aspect they could be useless at.
In my opinion Guardians aren’t that strong at range dps, Rangers don’t make very good front liners and Thieves shouldn’t be commanders.
Most people will probably say Rangers or Thieves in regards to large scale because they don’t have great synergy in large groups. But I’ve seen some Thieves do some mean scouting and Rangers do serious damage to commanders with piercing arrows.

Depends what type of WvW you’re doing. Large scale or small scale.

In large scale a well rounded build would be:
Greatsword or hammer(Pvt/Knight’s)/Staff with soldier gear with melandru/soldier runes.
Celestial trinkets. 0, 0, 30(VI, IV, XI), 30(II, IX, XI), 10(II or III)
with Stand You’re ground, Hold the Line then a cooldown you can switch as you like.
Zerker set or Celest set with the Soldier trinkets could also work.
This build is built for surviving large organised while buffing teammates and having reasonable damage.

For small scale the world is your oyster really depending how much damage you want to put out. Jax’s Meditation build on the guardian forums is pretty good.

Weapons Greatsword/ (Sword or scepter) and Focus or Hammer.
If you don’t want to swap your armour to much you could use the same general armour but do your talents 0, 0 (or 10), 0( or 10), 30 , 30
Valor or Radiance Trait of your choice, same honour talents and (II, IX, X) in virtues. The extra boon duration, heal over time and extra access to stability are quite nice.

Sea of Sorrows is the unofficial Oceanic server since launch. However it depends what you like doing.

If you like sPvP I hear Anvil Rock is the place to be.

If you’re a team based WvW players the gold league servers are a good fit for you with the top 3 having highest WvW populations. If you like roaming in WvW silver league or higher(rank).

If you PvE I suggest finding a good oceanic/all time zones guild in the guild recruitment forum before you make your move so you can get in on Guild Missions. Can always guest for PvE, but they may have a req to be on their server for influence gains or other reasons.

And if it only tallies people currently online based from that server, depending when x players last logged in or if it included people guesting including dungeon instances being hosted etc.

Maybe you were not paying attention but
Anet is on the right track.

The problem of the Warrior isn’t the CC.
Or Dmg.
Or sustain.
Or mobility.
Or highest hp/armor combo.

Is that they can easily bring all of them at same time with very little effort.

Maybe you havn’t checked the numbers or the way the traits have been moved around to avoid this. The hammer doesn’t need a raw damage nerf, just the traits that were supporting said “overpowered (I died to it)” build.

Those thieves must have been awful. But tbh that leap doesn’t need a shorter cd. Having the sword off hand have those reduced cooldowns would be completely unnecessary as well.

Perhaps. Same argument could be made for greatsword abilities tho…
Regardless, 10% increased crit with swords, by itself, is a very weak master-tier trait.

I would definetly agree that the 10% increased crit to swords isn’t a truly exciting trait.

Why? what makes the warrior profession so special that it deserves to do as much damage on its CC weapons skills as other professions do on their damage weapon skills?

Just did a test just then. Lvl 80 Warrior, lvl 80 Guardian and lvl 80 elementalist. All with 3.3k attack on LA training dummies.

Not only that the desired crowd control you’re looking for in the ability requires a charge time. Not saying guardian or elementalists need a nerf, but their damage abilities are far outperforming a burst ability, so what you’re saying doesn’t make any sense to me.

Haven’t logged into one of my old accounts in a while. When I tried to authenticate via the website both times the emails came in far to slow before the timer timed out and the authenticate was no longer valid.
Decided to try the game client authenticate which I know doesn’t have a timeout and I’m not receiving any emails to access this account.
Now even attempting to login through the site won’t send me an email.
The emails are not being sent to my spam, and I double checked that the address isn’t being blocked.

People who blindly accept corporate promises are worse than that.

yes, because they take the space for other people who want to play the game as intended. I don’t say everyone who enjoys GvG is like this, some of the players might wait till the servers aren’t full so no harm here. On the other hand there are people who GvG when servers are quite full… that’s when I talk about griefing.

Well let’s keep this thread on topic which is about the interference with the community event, which was a GvG. Plenty of other GvG threads to talk about xyz, but yes that can be frustrating. Looking at the PPT it was not the case here. In fact it looks like both sides were bored/frustrated with their current play and how this scene evolved in the first place.
