Why are hungry cats getting so expensive?

After the SAB one (I don’t particularly like SAB so am not good at it. Like at all.) I had to accept that I can’t hug every cat. But I guess most of the cats will just have to do.

Next time SAB comes around, I wouldn’t mind running it for you. I did it for two other friends (carrying the fish) and managed to get them the cute kitty. It uses the slingshot bauble on the cat-toy and pops health hearts when you hit it with water gun.

I love these cats though, and I don’t understand the complaint. They remain achievementless pointless and fun. Something where whenever you’re asked why you did it the reason is only, “I wanted the cat ^.^”

I guess it kinda just depends on your content as well. WvWers probably had an incredibly easy time getting the blue and yellow and didn’t feel the price. I do nothing but fractals, so I kinda don’t feel the price for Simon. I know he’s the most expensive one, but it was worth it to me.

So I just can’t understand the complaint that they need to remain cheap otherwise they’re no longer fun. It just doesn’t make sense.

I’m not saying that they all need to be cheap. Like somebody earlier said, I’m merely wondering if, or concerned about every single (or most) of the cats that come out in the future being increasingly expensive.

As somebody said, if these are “ascended cats”, what will the “legendary cat” require? :P.

I’m hoping in the future we get a good mix, some not very expensive cats, and some special, but more expensive or challenging cats (whether cost of item, or simply SAB like challenge to get). Or other animals as well!

Though I do agree, we probably will need a golem or device to manage cats soon lol, so many wandering my salma district now.

Honestly, in the preview area, there was a grand total of TWO locations you could not reach with a mount.

One needed tier 3 raptor mastery, the other a skimmer.

Luckily, I don’t want an instance filled with cats. Also the cats are sometimes in very out-of-the way places in your instance so I wouldn’t see them anyway so I don’t care. If I had more control over my Home Instance so I could place things and cats, and turn certain cats on and off to make it new and different now and then, I would be more interested in getting more cats / stuff.

They added a device that can hide the cats for your next visit into home instance.

edit: I don’t mind the price of the catmanders since they come with a kitten zerg. I’m just curious if in the future we’ll see some more normal ‘price’ cats alongside the more expensive, fancy cats.

Though there are now a ton of cats in my home instance lol.

If they designed the map to feature lots of the methods of HoT style traveling, the shrooms, the lava tubes, the gliding ley-line paths and updrafts, then somebody who just buys PoF won’t have access to any of that and would be punished for not buying the other expansion.

This is what Anet is avoiding for this.

They were fun and even challenging sometimes (SAB cat) to collect, and I’ve gotten all but blue catmander, Simon, and the guardian cat so far.

But I looked at Simon’s requirements, and the blue catmander (I lack guardian cause the kitten recipe requirement, I never do dragons stand and not high enough level WvW), and those are insanely expensive compared to any other cat.

Is this a trend? Or are these cats just considered above and beyond special compared to the rest?

How dare they have a character react to something ingame.

I think the holosmith “holograms” and asura “holograms” are simply two different paths.

Most of all asura holograms we see have no physical presence/can’t harm anything (there are a handful of cases otherwise), where the holosmith items seem to all have a physical presence that can interact or smack stuff around.

As for splitting them- setting aside the fact that they were always separate (Grenth brought ice to the pantheon when he became a god, at a time when Abaddon was still free and widely worshiped), they are, conceptually, two very different things… especially during Abaddon’s time, when water was equated with the sea and its depths. Add in that Lyssa had more to do with liquid water than Grenth ever did, and it makes sense that she’d take the domain once it was freed.

A water ele would pick whichever of the gods they cared for. One who used more ice might go for Grenth, and one who used more water might go for Lyssa… or Dwayna, since for an elementalist, water is the healing element. Or they might worship all three equally, beseeching each for favor in turn while using different kinds of water magic, or not worship any at all, seeing their magic as their own business and not the gods. There’s nothing that locks a human to one patron.

In GW1, grenth is explicitly the patron to water eles. Who freely switch between water and ice spells.

Grenth is Ice, and although Lyssa is the patron of Assassins and Mesmers her domain is also of Water.

I don’t get this, AT ALL. How is Lyssa the goddess of water, yet Grenth ice, and grenth was the patron for all water eles in gw1? I don’t understand why they changed that from GW1 to GW2, as before Lyssa never had anything to do with water magic.

Prior to Nightfall, Abaddon was the god of water (and secrets). After the Nightfall storyline, since Abaddon no longer existed, Lyssa took on water.

His domains were taken over by the other gods.

Even then, what sense does to make to split water and ice? Water magic uses both so does a water ele (religious) worship lyssa and grenth equally? Cause those two weren’t exactly fans of each other IIRC :P.

I would never join the Shining Blade, not even as a human. Their ritualistic BS is too cult-like to my liking, not to mention I strongly dislike their objectives. They’re not about protecting Kryta, they’re about protecting Jennah’s bloodline. I see monarchy as tyranny, so yeah… I would rather not be allied with the current Krytan government at all, unless it puts me in a more opportune position to destroy them and usurp power (but in a more clever way than Caudecus and his ilk).

It’s “cult like” because they literally got betrayed by one of their highest members to the white mantle, which resulted in the bulk of the shining blade being murdered or imprisoned (In Prophecies, after the betrayal happens it’s commented on that the shining blade, at that moment, was a non-entity as a fighting force. They regained strength after the end of prophecies).

By definition, monarchs are Tyrants, because the definition of Tyranny comes from ancient greece where the idea of one person holding power, regardless of intent or personality, was viewed as extremely bad.

And actually, their goal is protecting Kryta. It’s been implied that if a king or queen is doing things that will actively harm Kryta’s well being, they can remove them and replace them with the next in line.

Why do you hate the Krytan government so much? It’s corruption stemmed from Caudecus, who is no dead, the white mantle, who are also wiped out now, and the other traitors who were aligned with them, who are dead, imprisoned, or in hiding.

Jennah is a kind and loved ruler, the Ministry is now on track to becoming what it should have been all along, And they are advancing ideals of peace, not endless war.

Anyway, to OP. Bio option has no meaningful impact on gameplay (a priest of the god in home instance, no dialogue), no real effect on personal story dialogue as far as I know, and no skill bonuses or such.

In RP, the bio options also can be ignored and replaced with other things, like more varied origins for humans, etc.

The thing nobody really touches on here is it’s very possible to revere more then one god. Hell, you could revere all six at the same time possibly.

Sylvari an argument for the best race?

A sylvari may emerge from the tree with a basic understanding of fire magic, but they must learn to master it themselves. GW1’s way of doing it was over all stronger. Our character was an unsung hero for most of it. Someone doing great things that, like you said, didn’t have a position of power within the world. Another advantage was that the PC wasn’t the sole hero involved. Every step of the way we had an entourage of other heroes with us, to the point the story wasn’t “Johnny Awesome saves the world”. It was “A group of heroes including Cynn, Aidan, Jora, Pyre Fierceshot, and others saved the world”.

Indeed, as a roleplayer myself I enjoyed that because I can reference my GW1 cast as being present at many, if not the majority of the events but not as “THE HERO” but instead as on of many heroes who fought through it all.

Hell, my personal viewpoint is that missions in say, nightfall had all the nightfall heroes and henchmen present lorewise, even if game limited how many were out.

Then of course, the nightfall heroes went home and the EOTN featured the EOTN heroes and henchmen.

So DSD is totally safe?

The DSD has a name it’s referenced a single time. Mainly that “Hey, the name of the sixth dragon is on this scroll, but that section is damaged and can’t be translated from the ancient texts to modern language.”

It might not be fully awake, as it’s driving of the Krait from the deep trenches seems less of a planned or invasion attack, and more of a “It started stirring/it’s minions pushed outward.”

We know the inquest had a minion of the DSD at some point though.

Then how much complaining would Anet have to deal with that boils down to “But I do all the heavy lifting, why don’t I get any credit or hero status???”

There’s a trade secret to be used in exactly this situation that many a story writer has used when faced with similar criticism. It’s called “ignore them”.

Most players aren’t writers. Most players have never attempted to make a coherent story or setting in their lives. They have no idea how many issues crop up in a narrative when you shoehorn your player character into the lead role of a multiplayer game. Anet catered to the demand for a more important PC and now their NPCs and the individuality of the PC has suffered for it, causing people to complain.

As was said above, you can’t please everyone all of the time. There will always be complaining.

You can’t please everybody, this is entirely true.

But notice how in living story season 2 and 3, we became more noticeable important/got comments about how big we where?

After the people who never bothered to read dialogue of PS complained about how “ALL MA CREDIT GOT STOLEZ BY TREEBEARD.”?

Sadly, the people who like stuff tend to be quieter then the insane, loud, small group.

IMO, it did suffer some. Anet’s strength in GW1 was that we were the hero, but we weren’t in charge. PS worked pretty well (IMO) because we weren’t in charge, and season 1 somewhat for the same reason.

however when the commander became “The person in charge” like HoT, things quickly went downhill. Like how the commander does very little in that storyline to actually be “The commander of the Pact” :P.

Hopefully with Path of Fire, we return to that “important, but not perhaps THE person in charge” role.

To be fair, being a multicultural game would work absolutely find if the story didn’t focus on our character the way GW1’s story did. That sort of storyline just doesn’t work well with an MMO where the main character of the story will have to have no personality, origin, race, or even gender.

It would have been better to not put the player in the role of “single most important person in the entire universe” and just make us a nameless hero who shows up, saves the day, interacts with the NPCs, and then leaves. Have us on the periphery of the story following Trahearne and Destiny’s Edge, maybe with some minor side questlines that involve our old warband or krewe or what have you to keep the feeling of belonging to our race intact.

Bonus points if our warband/krewe/gang/hunting buddies/flower friends joined us on missions similar to in GW1 as NPCs.

I would have felt much better about this story step if I were watching say, Margory join the Shining Blade than my charr doing it.

Then how much complaining would Anet have to deal with that boils down to “But I do all the heavy lifting, why don’t I get any credit or hero status???”

I used to believe that Livia was the strongest necromancer.. but I thought her kind of underwhelming.. she hardly even appears to be a necromancer at all.. more like a warrior/mesmer………..

She uses necromancer and mesmer skills in the episode.

In Sea of Sorrow’s, I recall hearing about her literally melting risen who tried getting on the ship she was on.

However, I’d give the most powerful necro to be currently “alive”/active, to Palawa Joko.

The question of Palawa Joko and Zhaitan

in Lore

Posted by: Kalavier.1097

Kalavier.1097

In Siren’s landing they likely call them undead because of the fact Zhaitan is gone and now more risen can’t be made.

Also IIRC, the ones calling them that are ghosts, not living people?

As for Palawa Joko, he’s literally the most powerful necromancer we’ve seen ingame/in the lore. As a lich, he was impossible to kill and had to be entombed to contain him by the original order of whispers, Turai Ossa’s personal guard.

edit: there are two other factors.

A: Joko has little interest in expanding his control past the borders of Elona (as he’s proven such. He wanted to conquer and rule Elona, and once he did that he ceased expanding.) Thus his efforts against the risen was more of a border patrol/holding line then warfare.

B: Zhaitan has shown no interest in going after Elona as well, as said above, the way I’ve seen it described was less war, more of the risen just moving outward from Orr and the Awakened sitting there fighting them back if they got close.

There is also I believe a line Trahearne says during personal story, which was undead minions/constructs were immune or protected from Zhaitan’s corruption turning them into Risen. I don’t know if that applies to undead beings like ghosts, skeletons, zombies, or awakened that were already undead when Zhaitan’s corruption hit them (By Zhaitan’s breath/presence, or his champions).

We do have instances were ghosts are present and are completely untouched by Zhaitan’s corruption, even though their bodies were.

Does race even matter?
We abandoned our krewe, our warband, norn dont care about the hunt, sylvari abandoned their wyld hunt, and humans.. well.. royal or born on the streets, when was the last time you met with your friends?

Krewe and Warband yes.

Norn what hunt? They finished the great hunt and moved to the next adventure.

Sylvari finished their wyld hunt to kill Zhaitan. They got a new one to kill Mordremoth. They finished both and abandoned neither.

Humans can’t be royal, but the implication I got was Noble birth (friends mostly is Faren and a few others). Commoner (friends are mostly the tavern people they worked/stayed with. I forget if it’s just working with or if they lived with them). Street Rat all their friends were gang members who mostly died off, were killed by the PC, or left the life of crime shortly after the PC leaves DR.

But yes, in all cases the PC doesn’t really communicate or go spend time with their start of personal story friends/co-workers, or even the orders that much.

the PC is literally a free agent and adventurer now, wandering the world.

Now that they have left the Pact, they are a free agent (Or at least, purposefully stepped away from their second in command of the Pact role).

Really? I thought the problem was with our character to be honest. Usually we are more willing to let our team members do their own thing and meet back later. Now it suddenly was an issue.

Personally i don’t think my toon should be ordering everyone around and having Marjory go off with Lazarus to keep an eye on him seemed like a good idea. Not sure what our objection was – she can clearly handle herself and Lazarus wanted to harm her, well he would have done so by now.

That changed with Caithe, its because of Caithe that the commander changed from ’we’re a team’ to ’I’m the boss, follow orders’

Well maybe, but we let Taimi do her own thing since then and as a child it would be much more appropriate to be ordering her around. And we wouldn’t dream of ordering Rytlock around. If Canach had said he was going along with Lazarus, I doubt we’d have fussed much either.

To me Marjory’s reaction felt more appropriate than mine.

I think taimi’s a special case since, because we know she’s a cripple she won’t go outside and do weird stuff. Plus we know for a fact she wouldn’t let the world end because that would be bad for her research papers

We let Taimi do her own thing, within a sealed lab that she cannot truly leave by herself. Without Scruffy, she’s restricted to Rata Novus and Rata Sum basically.

Plus, it’s hard to keep an eye on her and be out on the field. She’s safe and sound, and doing very important/good work in the backlines for us.

The commander, and the Pact, can’t be too selective with their allies right now. A strong, unified faction of white mantle under Lazzy not only removes them from possibly converting to Cauduacus’s side, but also boosts the frontlines against the dragons. And with the dragons apparently getting buffed with Zhaitan and Mordremoth’s deaths, and two elder dragons currently active and pushing… We need all the help.

All you say is theory. Suddenly withdrawing all sylvari from the Pact units would rare a ton of suspiscion. There is no promise we would’ve seen Tarir or Rata Novus in a vision, or that we’d reach either location with the help the grounded pact forces did provide in a sense.

Lives may be saved because of the fleet not going into the jungle, but many would be lost by the Mordrem charge (which is partly what the fleet bombarded), and the conflict between sylvari and other races.

Think about it, we got this big summit of all the races to fight against Mordremoth, then suddenly all the Sylvari pull out and retreat to the grove/surrounding areas without saying why to the other races. Trahearne and/or sylvari PC refuse to comment. That’s going to do lovely things for the whole “UNITY!” aspect.

This i agree with completely. I cant believe the choices PC made in the last instance, particulary this one.
Why by dwayna does he suddedly trust a sylvari who stole the egg she knew the pc was suppoused to keep? Id keep her away from egg or dispose of her immediately upon meeting her in hot.
It makes the story so one dimensional too.. You never get any major betrayal from people you trust and then end them, it would be really LAME with Lazarus, given that he is once again a new character, but betrayal AND death of a long known one would make n impact- everybody excpects lazarus to betray us. Also to us personaly lazarus did nothing yet, but Caithe caused death of half the pact, Eir and Trahearane, close comrades of the pc.
But no, lets trust her again..

Why by dwayna is the PC completely trusting a known criminal who had already attempted to MURDER the PC, as well as causing severe damage to southsun and LA and making the entire area much more dangerous then it was?

Why would the PC trust somebody they had literally threatened not long ago with outright MURDER, simply for overhearing them talk about the egg?

^both are about Canach.

Caithe did not kill half the pact, Trahearne, or Eir. What do you think would’ve happen if just before they launched the fleet, Caithe and the commander comes back going “GUYS, SYLVARI ARE DRAGON MINIONS!” Yay for destroying the pact utterly from within mates.

Caithe actually did nothing besides you know, fleeing with the egg. She never showed hostility toward the commander, or threatened the egg.

Also, big thing that kittened me off with HoT. After Tarir’s instance, Marjory mentions that Caithe disappeared. The Commander mentions something about Caithe showing up again, in a neutral tone. NO MALICE. When Caithe shows up, the commander hates her with every fiber of her soul and literally tells Braham to murder Caithe if she even moves.

Why the hell did the commander suddenly develop such insane hatred? It’s out of place and unexplained.

Do note, EXPLICITLY. Caithe doesn’t charge into slaughtering the centaurs with a kittening grin. She hears Faolien scream in terror/pain, rushes outside to see her lover and a centaur in combat. And rushes to defend her love who has apparently been attacked.

And then things escalate.

She’s shady, yes. But the hate for her is so kittening overblown I’m completely and utterly sick of it. She’s been shady her ENTIRE LIFE. She hasn’t changed that much, yet the Pkittenerally goes from trusting her, to unsure, to utter hatred threatening to kill her if she twitches.

The Pkittenerally threatened to murder Canach for listening in on her talking about the egg, then suddenly is best pals with him in HoT. Canach has also tried to murder the PC, where Caithe has not. We’ve known Caithe for a very long time, we’ve hardly met Canach.

Yes, she made mistakes. But she’s not been hostile toward the egg or the commander. She’s never been hostile toward the commander. Her guarding the dragon not only adds more protection to it, but it also actually removes her from those who would want to harm her for earlier, ‘mistakes’.

If we ever get to Elona, you might have a chance to ask Palawa Joko. However not sure if you want to be a dried up corpse. Alternatively you could go seek out Livia, if she is still alive. She managed to stay fresh for around 200 years, probably with a little help from the Scepter of Orr.

You mean Countess Anise (if you accept the theory that Anise is Livia)?

Besides the fact that theory has no solid facts supporting it, and implies that Livia went 200 years without ever disguising herself or her power, then suddenly hiding all her power and her identity and completely using a different tree of magic for whatever reason.

Anise =/= Livia.

In the Pact Encampment, on the first day or so after the crash, they got a device that could detect mordrem influence over a Sylvari, and used this to test Sylvari pact members, rooting out the loyal Sylvari from the corrupted.

A pity, as I like the norn and rata sum backpacks equally. The charr and human one (bar the hat) follow.

I really was hoping I’d be able to get the variety.

Why not, the main skin I can think of that is missing now from the gemstore cycles.

Sport Sunglasses from the gemstore.

Technically, Edwin, Lazarus said that the Krytan throne is inconsequential.

Which could mean his goal is to literally obliterate all of Kryta.

My theory is he’s after the dragons.

He said they are after more virtuous pursuits, he’s been on the edge of nothing for a long time.

Maybe he’s decided this time around instead of fleeing, he’s going to fight? My prediction is Lazzy and his white mantle go after the dragons.

I tend to agree that Lazarus wants to take down the dragons. Although, I doubt it’s for any actually virtuous purpose. I think he just wants their magic. We know he’s capable of absorbing large amounts of magical energy and coming out unscathed, I think he wants to be standing right next to an Elder Dragon when one dies.

Yes. He said virtuous but really, what is virtuous in the mind of a Mursaat? It is probably not what Tyrians would consider virtuous.

Well, here is another factor. They really held onto Kryta for the fact of keeping the Door of Komali sealed with soul battery sacrifices. Now that the door was opened (then resealed), and the Titan’s taken out or imprisoned once again, that drive may very well be a non-issue anymore.

He may simply not need Kryta at all, and thus not care about overthrowing the Monarch and putting a new one up (which is the main divide between the two white mantle factions, loyality to Mursaat over wanting to take over Kryta).

Makes sense. It does feel like they’re slowly trying to make the Pact less and less relevant and open opportunities to make a new hero faction. But who knows?

Eh, I don’t think they are making the pact less relevant or aiming for it.

What it is, IMO, is a shift from full army movements to smaller scale, focused battles. As the commander said “I think we’d be better as a small unit acting dependently.”

It’s hard to portray a huge army and being the leadership of it (again, IMO), and having it feel like such. HoT we were in charge, yet it didn’t really feel like that. Also, by having us separate, we avoid any issues of perhaps somebody telling us to do something and technically being lower ranked.

What is the rough percentage of Sylvari that are in the nightmare, to Sylvari who are among the ranks of the Nightmare court (since we know not all nightmare Sylvari are part of the courts)?

This was answered a long time ago and the number we were given was “roughly 15%”.

Though this was prior to the actions of Toxic Alliance and Mordremoth’s rising. So it’s no doubt different now.

I almost answered that myself, but that’s how many Courtiers there are vs Dreamers. Kalavier’s asking how many Nightmare sylvari there are that aren’t affiliated with the Court- something that’s theoretically possible, but never been confirmed. I put it up on the list.

This. Partly because of a nightmare court/nightmare debate going on elsewhere. :P

What are the official viewpoints of other cultures toward the nightmare court? Seraph/humanity, Lionguard/LA, Asura, Norn, Charr, etc?

I don’t have any numbers on win streaks or loss streaks as I didn’t keep track of them.

My thoughts (without reading much of this topic)? I encountered very annoying streaks where I’d win a bunch of matches in a row then suddenly I lose an equal or greater amount in a row. This became the worst at the final week of the season (I missed ten days due to being out of town). Where I would win one match, then lose 2 or 3 in a row. Then one again (If I was lucky). This happened for basically the entire final week of the season, resulting in the last few days being me desperately trying to get the final one pip to reach Sapphire, only to see myself go to 3 or 4 pips away.

While I’m hardly a hardcore PVP person, mostly doing at least 3 matches a day for the daily participator achievement credit, the loss streaks, especially at the end, really hurt my desire to keep going. I had some awesome matches that were close, then suddenly I get stomped 30-500 points. Or my team stomps 500-120 or something. I developed a massive hate for thieves in general throughout the latter part of the season.

I saw somebody literally go and throw a match for the enemy because somebody dared to “double cap” home with him. I saw people kittening about double caps or other things, but luckily I also saw people who agreed with me that solo capping a point then suddenly being murdered in 3 seconds by a thief was far worse.
