Necromancer is at a fine state right now because it is really strong in conquest when played with an organized team. In order to run necromancer you basically need to have a good elementalist or another support class with you. Any necromancer that isn’t terrible will never lose to engineer, it’s honestly a joke how easy it is to kill engineers. Just watch the World Tournament Series from this past September and you’ll see exactly how much pressure necromancer did as a whole in conquest and how it just allowed one team to stagger respawns once they got one kill.

If you’re having trouble playing necromancer in soloqueue, focus on your positioning as you won’t always be with a support class on your team. You have to learn how to kite on the terrain and such to survive, abuse spots where classes like thieves/revs can’t port to you. Another thing to do on necro in soloqueue is to not really worry about going straight into the teamfight if you do die unless your teammates are stalling 3vX, maybe +1 a teammate if they’re in a 1v1 as it’ll make the map 5v4 as long as your other teammates survived

No one said DS was an invuln. The statement was that healing while in DS where the second health pool can shield the primary health pool is akin to the same functionality as healing while Invuln because there is no way to counter the primary health pool regenerating while the LF health pool is active.

And since I’m here, let’s clarify some of the mechanics: Immunity is not the same as an Invulnerable. Immunity only cancels the effects of a single skill effect i.e. Conditions, Crowd Control, Direct Damage. Invulnerability makes the players Invulnerable to all skill effects/mechanics not applied prior to the skill activation.

Exactly, my point was that people can still receive heals from allies while invulnerable. You brought up that healing while invulnerable got removed for Engi & Ele however the mechanic OP is addressing still exists for other classes.

Healing behind DS is the same concept as healing while Invulnerable. There’s little to no counter play and that’s why it was removed from other classes ages ago like Ele and Engi healing while in Mist form and Elixir S. It’s not going to happen.

Well to counter your argument, Ele & Engi in mist form and elixir s can still be healed by allies :P. But I agree it’d be a bit overpowered seeing as how it’s an entirely different health bar and lasts longer than invulns.

It’s funny how firebird is even commenting, he doesn’t really know pvp….. he follows crysis and just get ressed after eating everything possible and dodging afterwards. Anyways, this change is idiotic… just making cele and ranger even more powerful, along with making thief mes and guard less viable. Why have a thief? Because mobility and burst. Whats this doing? Limiting mobility basically making it even harder to play thief in already and aids/cancer cele meta…. GG anet once again you amaze me.

It’s funny because I’ve won more tournaments then you’ve been in. Played bunker guard too (so I’ve been the one rezzing crysis in the past) and I hope you can learn to do something other than spam dodge and hope sharks with lazers will reform and want you :P

Supcutie played thief because there was a technical issue that didn’t allow him to play mesmer, not because he felt thief would be stronger.

Necromancer is fine, it’s one of the best professions for conquest. It can maintain a constant snowball because it +1s fights the best. All it requires is a team that offers peels, can rotate and win their fights so that the necromancer can rotate into those fights. Has enough mechanics for surviving such as flesh wurm and spectral walk as well as death shroud.

Ranger needs a buff.

Mesmer is fine, same as necromancer, it required a coordinated team that can peel for the mesmer. It offers one of the strongest skills in conquest when executed correctly. Portal Entre.

Just cause you don’t see these classes in tournaments doesn’t mean they need buffs, other classes are just much easier and offer more with less work.

You sure on that first one? There was a technical issue I remember, but that wasn’t stated as the reason to play thief. Also, your last point is exactly why they need buffs, it isn’t fair to leave 2 our of 8 classes as dependents on a team. How can you say necros are strong when they require at least one class just to peel for them? Don’t you think classes should be able to survive independently? Furthermore, it pushes these classes from the meta because they can’t survive independently.

The only justification you gave for these classes not getting buffs is that they provide something unique, but so do all the other classes. Also, necros, mesmers, and rangers are taken on teams way less than the other classes. If that isn’t a reason to give them buffs I don’t know what is. You stated it yourself that there is no reason to take these classes. How do you think people who play those classes feel who dedicate their time practicing their classes just to see less skilled players perform better or as good just cause they play the right class?

Yes I’m sure, his teammates said so themselves in teamspeak. I said rangers need buffs, mesmers and necromancers do not however. First off, any coordinated team will peel for their teammates if under pressure. Necromancer and Mesmer are casters and fulfill different roles from eles, engis, and warriors (most common in the meta) which are bruisers. The way they have survivability is by having decent positioning as well as having an ample amount of self-peeling utilities. Mesmers have 2 distortions usually (4 second invulns), an extra evade if running sword, access to energy sigil and 2 stunbreaks. Necromancer have plague, 2 stunbreaks, access to energy, and deathshroud. Never said there isn’t a reason to take these classes. Why not take two classes that are strongest in conquest? Necromancer is the best class for +1ing eles & engis. Your reasoning for buffing these classes is to make them as easy as two of the most broken classes in the game. No, instead nerf the other classes.

Ranger is already far too strong. Any buff to them needs to include a huge nerf to the longbow and the pet. A reduction in the time of Entangle wouldn’t be a bad idea either.

The Ranger may be too powerful, but overall it’s still not providing something the game wants or needs. Thus why no one plays it and even some of the highest skilled teams can’t seem to make it work.

So if we want to have an honest discussion on why the class is overpowered, we also need to have an honest discussion on how to improve it in other ways so the class can actually have a reason to exist.

Honestly speaking, the same could be said for Mesmers and Necromancers. Neither class pulls their own weight and requires far too much of an investment from the team to truly be viable. But Ranger is easily in a far worse state overall.

This really gets to the crux of the issue, many in this thread have disagreed that these classes need buffs, giving no justification as to why these classes shouldn’t be buffed (Other than longbow 2, which is a hilariously bad argument). These three classes cannot simply be taken in a team comp, the team comp has to be built around them and with them in mind. This is why you haven’t ever seen these classes as the meta because they require far more work to have them in a team then they are worth.

When Supcutie was playing a thief today (as opposed to mesmer which has always been his favorite), and when I watched Nos get focused time and again with very little reasonable counterplay it emphasized this. Anyone who honestly disagrees with these classes getting buffs, please give me a legitimate reason why they don’t deserve buffs. Balance is around pvp high level play and they are all currently under performing, which is obvious to anyone paying attention.

Celestial is little overpowered ATM.

Jumping while casting is terrible anyway unless you’re trying to use LoS to your advantage like landing grenades on engineer from a lower point to a higher point or over an obstacle, you can get immobilized in the air and be locked out of all your skills including stunbreaks.

Was never trolling, you’re just literally ignorant. You’re blind-sided by the idea that your team is only losing because celestial amulet is overpowered.

Have you ever considered the repercussions for removing celestial amulet? The next complaint about engineer will be that rune of balthazar is too strong on rabid engineers. Elementalists will go back to being suboptimal in any team composition. Warrior will return to being the Apex predator. Power Necromancer will still be terrible with terrible positioning. Mercy warrior will be useless because everything will be that much glassier and have more cleave than currently.

I have considered that and already made multiple posts on it.
There were multiple buffs to elementlist with the feature patch, including fire 3 being an evade, another blast finisher in water, etc. At this time in the game if a D/D ele runs valk, with the buffs from the feature patch, they will be powerful, but not overpowered as they are now.

Engineers are at the point where they can, through CC, damage, etc. Kill just about anything including their once counter, necromancer, and anything without a counter is overpowered as hell, so, if rabid balth comes back, they will have a counter, and there will be balance. Also, with the addition of more condi, guardians may be able to come back and be part of the meta.

So, what is YOUR solution to fix the issue if mine is so bad??

Necromancer is still a hard-counter to engineer. The fact that a necromancer can +1 a fight and instantly global an engineer is a hard counter. 1v1s are not the only factor that represent nor define “hard-counter”. Necromancers still beat engineers 1v1.

You have a very good point, the one issue is necromancer is regarded as one of the very slowest classes in the game, while thief, is typically the +1 er because of mobility.
So, because necromancer is incredibly slow I find it hard to consider that it would have to be used in the +1 scenarios because it is likely by the time the necromancer arrives it WILL be just a 1v1.

The fact that a well-played elementalist can survive 1v2 for a decent amount of time vs other celestial classes (such an engineer) allows a necromancer to be able to still +1 fights such as those which is a representation of how one celestial class balances out another in this meta.

Another factor is keeping numbers on the players on the opposite team and who is going to respawn where for optimal rotations.

Overall, fixing engineer and elementalist would require an ample amount of time because removing them from the meta would cause other classes to become “overpowered”

Removing celestial amulet would not at all move them out of the meta, it will simply make it so the meta is concerned specifically with it.

Also, you have some solid points on how a team can work well against a celestial team by +1 with necromancer, what do you say to the many teams that do not have a necromancer? Also, celestial ele will prob +1 the engi faster then the ele, and I find it hard to believe that cele ele and cele engi would be beaten by condi necro with x class.

Teams without a necromancer will definitely have a disadvantage vs teams with celestial engineers and celestial elementalists. However, mechanical skill now comes into play. I’m not trying to bash anyone but if chaith and nos were to 2v2 vs hman and oeggs the former would win simply because engineer and necromancer have a synergy that can completely shut down most professions with the amount of ccs available if played correctly.

Basically an engineer and necromancer can bait an elementalist’s cooldowns until being able to cc him out of his water attunement and kill him. Engineer vs engi/necro will get destroyed if caught in a cc chain especially since most engis no longer run with elixir s making them more vulnerable.

Hey chaith, thank you for for calling me out directly, again, and telling me I’m bad, that makes me have So much respect for you. Also Boreal has taken third many times by running 5 cele, although I wouldn’t recommend THAT much.

So, you agree that teams need at least 3 cele? thank you for proving my point.

I chose my words more carefully than you give me credit for, I’m not meaning to call you out. Unless you are the embodiment of double power necro, mercy warrior, personified? Don’t answer that.

My point was that you need two Celestial builds because running a Guardian is too difficult, I feel. Please differentiate between a need and a preference. You need two, if you don’t run a Guardian. More are optional. Worse players are not going to beat better players by having more Celestial builds while failing to rotate as well, or be as mechanically strong.

Second, the argument that great players will still be great players if cele is nerfed is baseless, before cele came to pass out played by children and Apex were beatable.

Karina, you lose to us AND abjured, first of all. Second, if might stacking is nerfed that will effect a lot outside of spvp which will make it take a LOT longer to fix it, IMO just remove cele from spvp.

I’m not trolling your thread you thilly bear! You say this thread is about Celestial Amulets but really you’re just taking pop shots at the Abjured! I know you’re upset because you can’t beat them but let’s take a look at why!

  • Your condi Necro loses to Engi 1v1! Player skill issues! How do you expect to beat a team if you can’t win a fight that you absolutely 100% should win every time!
  • One of your team comps is Mercy Rune Warrior, 2 condi Necro, 2 ranger! Another is Mercy Rune Warrior and 2 power Necros! What are you thinking! Get a better team comp! Elementalists are overpowered and even phantaram (best ele in the game) understands that and gave anet suggestions for making it balanced, but it has nothing to do with celestial amulet.
Radioactive doesn’t lose to teams like Abjured simply because of celestial amulet but also because all the players on Abjured have better rotations and mechanical skill than anyone on Radioactive.

Once again, I’m seeking a definitive response as to what constitutes a hit, given that (yes even though it was due to reducing mobility, it’s still the same principle hence the reference) for ride the lightning to have its cooldown 20s it needed to hit, and when this was announced a it was stated that a block would still count as a hit. You guys can keep ignoring that point and proclaiming that thieves are crying (yes we know you hate thieves, we’ve had it since launch and we no longer care) when the reality is that you saying a block is not a hit is your opinion since you cannot know for sure since you are not developers.

Edit: Discuss your opinions and why, of course, but don’t pretend to know. By a definitive response, I don’t mean non-devs saying what they think or want it to be.

The developers themselves said what counted as a hit during the Ready Up! video. Nobody is giving their “own opinion.”

thief blinks? (not saying thief is easier to play than war, but skills are easier to land)

i could go on with a list but what i mean is warrior has the most telegraphed skills out of all classes on average and almost no skills which allow no reaction time to your opponent.

yes, combustive shot is easy to land, there’s a reason war has been nearly pidgeon-holed into that weapon for the past year.

1. Whirlwind attack
2. Staggering blow (really fast cast-time)
3. Hammer Shock
4. Impale
are just a few of the warrior skills that land most of the time. Some people don’t realize that those skills that “miss” work in other ways, such as forcing dodges. If someone evades arcing arrow then pin down, they have no dodges left for a hammer shock or earthshaker which would force the person to use another utility or eat your full hammer rotation.

Everything you said is a player skill issue. And most of the Warriors I know have no trouble beating turret engineers 1v1 so again, player skill issue. Rar, wakkey, bob, etc.

This skill now must successfully hit a target before giving the thief access to Larcenous Strike. Initiative cost has been increased to 4

Obviously not a bug. Blinds/blocks/evades will cause it to not successfully hit

All you guys are wrong. According to thief/mesmer/guardior/ele and engie necro is OP in all area’s where those professions excel and needs more nerfs especially in areas they have no clue about, like condition application, DS (Those 7k crits that never happen) all those proc skills going off every weapon swap (lawl) and not to forget Dhuumfire, it’s still op according to everyone..

Also i would like to note the necro being the easiest profession to play!

As a roamer and burster, you really shouldn’t be too concerned about 1v1.

If you’re fighting a fair fight, you’re doing it wrong.

As a roamer i tend to inavde far or burst strugglers in midfights.
Now far has either nobody -> cap
1 person -> win 1v1 + cap
more than 1 person -> disengage and help end outnumbered midfight quickly

Ghostwolf explained it quite well.

In a competitive scenario home point is typically held by a strong and durable build. One that can last a few moments even when outnumbered and one that excels at 1v1 scenarios. Hence Hambows, Minion Masters and Spirit Rangers are often found camping home point.

And none of these builds are easy kills for a Thief. Even if you can win it will always cost you a lot of time and you might not even be able to cap the point before reinforcements arrive.

That’s why I always frown at Thieves who insist on pushing far point even when it’s guarded. Not only does it achieve very little, it can also cost them a team-fight somewhere else.

1. Nobody uses MM in high-tier pvp
2. Spirit Ranger, although it’s rarely played nowadays, is usually never watching home point simply because it’s stronger in teamfights.

I am kind of curious who would not run beserker stance vs a team with a necro and engi.

If you are going to make a comment about how un-OP the class is, you should try and run the right utilities and before you say this is proof warriors are not OP, warrior without berserker stance is like bunker guard without “stand your ground”.
