Say what you will about Dan, but he can throw 1 handed hadokens. That takes ALOT of talent =p
- 0:48 No Basilisk engage though you had time to whip it up.
- 0:55 Probably should have CnD, either way you whiffed the warp and only did 600dmg which isn’t worth the cooldown.
- 0:59 You had less than 1 second of Fear left, wasted your Shadowstep to stunbreak nothing. Also you used Shadow Return for no reason. You could have used your infiltrator’s strike to return to the fight and kept the Shadow Return to cleanse the poison, burn, bleed @ 1:07 then combo’d it with your again active Infil-return and have mitigated a lot of damage as well as gotten the full effect of your heal instead of having it reduced. That in turn would have allowed you to keep your shadow refuge off cooldown instead of using it as a panic retreat.
- 1:32 There were 3 enemies in the immediate area and you had F1 AOE fear. Missed opportunity. Also referring to the first point, your basilisk would have been up again at this point.
-The Rest of the necro fight was fine-
- 2:26 You had full init and no cooldowns. You should have basilisk engaged there to keep the enemy off the “point”. The ally you had in mid also may have been able to assist in the fight.
- 2:44 You disengaged to get out of the immediate condi threat area which was good. You should have swapped to bow in order to throw some ranged pressure in though, or at least thrown the gunk at him before your reengage at 2:49. Your immobilize would have guaranteed at least 2 condi ticks from it.
-You played really passively which is understandable against bunker/condi engi, but you missed opportunities to put ranged pressure on him. Your teammates were the ones who ended up pulling the majority of the work on this fight.-
Sorry if it sounds overly critical, I’m not trying to make accusations of you being bad or anything like that. I’m just trying to show you the moments you could have optimized more during. Looks like you’re a bit afraid to engage on condi builds, but that’s all you showed in the video so I can only speculate. You also didn’t engage with Basilisk either fight. If you’re afraid to engage with S/D, as previously shown, then swap to bow and get some early ranged damage and a poison in. Keep practicing, thief rewards precision inputs more than any other class. Learn the timing and situation awareness and you’ll be fine.
Rangers are just as easy as they’ve always been.
If they have Signet of Stone, then go super aggressive and wait for them to inevitably pop it. Use your Shadowstep to get around a corner and just wait it out since you can’t do kitten about it. When your Shadowstep starts blinking for the timer it’s safe to re-engage. This still applies to Sic’ Em users as you’re abusing terrain, not stealth.
If they’re stealth spamming, then they’re using Superior Rune of the Trapper.
Honestly, you shouldn’t have issue with them, just keep in mind 3 things.
- Abuse terrain with your mobility. Longbow doesn’t mean crap when you LOS them.
- Their steal skill removes condis and can be used for some clutch HS combo heals
- Their pet is full kitten: free D/D, P/D, or S/D stealth bait.
Silent Hill DnB Remix – Theme of Laura
Transistor OST – In Circles
Metal Gear Solid Revengeance OST – A Stranger I Remain
Jet Set Radio Future OST
Obviously have a bunch more and only put down 1 song from each series…aside from Jet Set since if someone hasn’t had the opportunity to listen to that entire soundtrack they deserve to. Jet Set seems to be my fallback soundtrack as it’s fast paced and chaotic but follows a set rhythm. Gets me into a good groove to mes all over people.
I like the coloring but I can’t help but stare into the soulless void of eyes lol. I’d probably replace the top though.
8/10, change the top and eyes and I’d be perfectly fine xD
I’d suggest Runes of the Pack as it gives everything you really need. High power, 100 extra prec, and fury proc. I could also suggest Rune of the Traveler as it usually saves people a utility slot.
This mini is just a ghostly Goedulf with a fancier name, and ghotstly fur cannot be petted…
All I see is my old friend, Tasuil the Brave. I’m also passed the 16k mark so yeah, I understand what a lot of you are going through
Rebuilt LA would be too confusing for new players, so unlikely.
But it’s not off the table
As a Thief, let rangers keep their power. They’re still omnomnomable with gap closers and reflects. LB/GS is not foolproof so I have no issues with it.
Thief class needs to be fixed entirely.
Going to go bite the dust like everyone else.
Don’t do it man! I’ve lost friends to that Bloodstone Dust. That kitten’s whack yo. Don’t be a square, be hip and say no to drugs.
I have to say, I don’t want incinerator changed at all. It’s simple, straight forward, and beautiful to watch. Not a lot of excess particle effects, the footprint looks nice as well. Add in the beautiful slash effect and all enemies “burning” to death and it’s easily my favorite legendary.
Followed by flameseeker
The first “skin” I wanted. I wanted it so bad and I’ve never changed it since then. Arachnophobia for my thief. Other than that Scarlet’s surprise present and basically every other “story” item.
• Yes, I spent a lot of my career at Disney, but my passion is building great characters and telling great stories, regardless of genre. So, don’t expect the Elder Dragons to break into song anytime soon.
…what if I promise to buy gems in order to get an Elder Dragon sing along? I didn’t know I wanted this until you said it but please, please Leah…. please give me an Elder Dragon song
Thief is fine. People will scream end of the world over anything. We have a few issues we have to deal with currently (Bugged steal, reveal skills, light dmg nerfs) but still more than viable. I actually came back to thief after the patch because I found S/D so mindlessly easy.
If you enjoy fast gameplay then you’re still fine with thief. Don’t let the people screaming about the apocalypse drive you away from it.
it will be different. it was different last year than it was 2 years ago, although I can admit it was slightly better 2 years ago
That’s because 2 years ago it was all new where as last year 80% of it was reused assets. Plus some emo child
Honestly I think they’re missing opportunities with simple stuff. Living story is usually cringe worthy but w/e, I can get passed the bad dialogue so long as the over all arc can grasp me.
The problem I have is they’re standing on Laurels of 2 years ago and won’t look forward till an actual competitor comes out. I hear a tone of people saying they want the B2P expansion model but NO. Personal/Living Story has the potential if ANET would do it properly.
Example: Zhaitan was confirmed defeated. For the process of this argument I’ll say defeated means he’s dead, no more. Elder Dragons feed off magical power. Modre was feeding off ley lines and Zhaitan used his undead so transfer magical artifacts and relics of power so he could eat them. When Zhaitan, a creature that is more or less pure magical energy, was CONFIRMED to be destroyed. That should have been the first step for ANET. Stolen magical energy was released back into the stream/ley lines. As a result, our personal magic potential should have grown I.e. a few new skills unlocked.
During Scarlet’s campaign she was working on new forms of magically enhanced steels. She also delved into technologies we don’t have as well as forming alliances into poisons and hallucinogens. During the Flame and Frost expansion: We should have had an ulterior objective. Get the magically enhanced metal Flame/Dredge that you salvage and turn them into the priory for research. As the story continues along, perhaps during Marionette of Seige on Lion’s Arch. The priory should have given us access to stronger/more refined weapons. This could translate to new melee weapon sets or optional/swap access for melee weapon skills.
On the flip side, ranged weapon opportunities would have been the Aetherblades. They relied heavily on grenades, rifles, and pistols so it would only make sense that if you turn in Aetherized metal scraps to the priory, during the same time melee got a new weapon/skill, so would all ranged options.
Again, on the flip side, the priory should have been researching Zhaitan’s corpse during this entire thing which would allow us greater magical understanding. Blah blah, repeat process, new magical weapon/skill.
With that, during the entire Living Story Season 1: Every event happened for a reason. Scarlet wasn’t just beating the tar out of us, we were also usign her advancements for ourselves. This is balance. You look into and research your enemy’s tech for your own usage.
During the hallucinogenic/poison tower arc with the krate we should have researched the poison as well as an antidote. They did this and gave us a subpar heal. Thematically, I can accept a subpar heal because it fit the situation. No complaints there.
With that we gain 1 new weapon set for each class and maybe 1-3 skills per class.
If you wanted to go further, with it, During the siege of Lion’s Arch, we should have had the Tengu help us and after scarlet was defeated, used as a playable race. I understand why this wasn’t done as remodelling and fitting a unique model/stance/animation set for every armor would be a MASSIVE task. No complaints, but still a lost opportunity.
The last opportunity ANET had for “expanding” the characters and in-game mechanics was during OMADDS machine. During the vision every PC as canonically seen, instead of “just” madness and visions, we should have been able to also unlock a portion of our inner potential. Caera gained access to vine powers, I won’t speculate as to if that was enhanced powers or Morde, but it happened. We should have been able to see a latent power within ourselves to, again, gain an extra skill or two.
So as I said before, Living Story isn’t the problem. Living Story is a great idea for an evolving world that changes. The problem lies with ANET not ceasing the proper opportunities in order to give Living Story a rewarding meaning for the players themselves. As we struggle against stronger, more unique, more mysterious foes with magical or technological power beyond our own, we should be evolving using the knowledge we gained from joint forces and unification.
Our victories should advance our standing. There’s no excuse for misappropriating opportunities that they’re giving themselves.
EDIT: Typed a lot more than I thought I did. Sometimes go off on small tangents, I did this when they didn’t give us a proper “memorial” period for the fallen of lion’s arch.
Side Edit: People will happily donate gems to buy in order to just support the game they feel deserves it. People are starting to boycott gems BECAUSE they can’t support what’s happening with the game.

Engi’s have been complaining about their backpacks since day 1. You might as well place yourself in cryosleep, maybe when you wake up they’ll have fixed it in Gw 2.5
My faith in ANET has been destroyed for a while now lol. As I’ve said repeatedly in other threads, just stop buying gems if you’re unhappy. I haven’t given them a dime in close to a year. Besides the new leveling system is fantastic! It’s allowed me to realize there’s no way in bloody hell I’ll every even consider leveling a new character in this game ever again. Phew! What a burden off my shoulders.
People are just overreacting. D/D is viable, D/P is viable, S/D is viable but tougher due to the followup, and /P is still fun for wrecking mesmers. Give people a few days to calm down, the ones RQ’ing are the same people saying Ranger is OP.
Evasion isn’t useful due to the internal cooldown and the short range of the cripple proc. I was also told by my friend that they don’t proc boon duration bonuses so they may also be bugged. Typically I see people debating between Traveler/strength but my good ol’ fashion fallback has been Lyssa runes. If you can’t make a decision join our Goddess Lyssa, for she has always smiled upon us. Hoebrak also has it’s uses but I prefer Lyss.
Lol, I really don’t get why ANet intentionally makes changes in the game only to backpedal and call them “bugs” at a later point…
Because they have an inexperienced balance team and ANET’s internal structure doesn’t seem to have any direction. Lots of ex-anet employees have said that they experienced almost no guidance or “goal”. They need to restructure that company >_>"
It’s the same with FGS “working as intended” then saying it’s bugged.
How about double the initiative cost for the next use of the interrupted skill?
It’s possible but that seems a bit severe. For example base initiative is 12 and pistol whip costs 6. If you were to interrupt it then you’d full drain the thief’s initiative. Not a bad idea maybe enhance the next skills cost by 2-3 though.
Really? Bad design is call over the place and I’m open-minded but nope you are not convincing me. Missing a skill on thief is very punishing, the first bad design would be to fix thief weapons THEN your GM trait over thief.
Bad design is all over the place, I agree. The problem with how you phrase it is saying “because there’s a ton of flaws, let’s look over other flaws”. I also agree, missing “certain” skills on thief is punishing. As stated before, if you’re interrupted right off the bat then no initiative is even taken. That makes the mesmer effectively waste his/her daze on you.
As for weapons vs GM “fixing”: Both thief weapons and the GM trait are in an overall good place. I couldn’t decide which I would prioritize ‘fixing’ first and would probably have them both worked on in a single balance patch considering those only come out once every 6 months in the first place. Most thief weapon combos are fine though, biased as it may be, I would probably give a slight prioritization on a GM trait they released knowing the philosophy of both mesmer and thief.
They knew thief runs on initiative and no cooldowns. They know that mesmers are a control class. Why would they then release a GM trait that’s negated fully by a class while not taking both those mechanics into account?
(edited by KeyLimPi.9031)
Just a tip. You won’t convince him that he’s wrong, just ignore him and he’ll go away.
Eh, gives me something to do while I’m stuck “working”. Besides, if I do end up convincing him that there’s a flaw with the design of a class vs countertrait, maybe he can also spitball ideas.
Just 1 class and you complain? Diamond skin can counter a whole set-up,condition necro own boon classes and has higher win rate against other condition builds…
Changing a class mechanic for 1 trait only seems very minor, very very minor.
Diamond skin doesn’t make something useless completely, just gives a buffer. I’m stating that there’s an inherent flaw with the design. You either don’t see it or simply want to pretend you don’t. Either way, that’s what I’m explaining. The problem is that it’s completely negated by thief, of any build.
Diamond skin is great, it’s also a 30 point investment, can still be hurt by physical damage, and doesn’t grant complete immunity. Power Lock is a 30 point investment that is ignored with no investment. You’ll notice I haven’t said that it’s “unfair” or “OP”, just that it’s bad mechanical design. I’m looking and suggesting for solutions for this.
Also it’s not just “1” trait =P it’s 1 GRANDMASTER trait.
Because initiative is different than CD , skills are weaker because you can activate them multiple times, swap weapon still got the same initiative, initiative is too fragile but fits the role of thief. They weren’t meant to be is why. Every weapons carries specific downsides and especially post patch, don’t mention p/d it lacks mobility and just like d/d heavily reliant on CnD,missing it hurts.
See this is a conflict of ideals.
Thief is built around initiative and ignoring weapon cooldowns for high burst.
Mesmer (roughly) is built around CONTROL and punishment.
Due to the design process, both of these directly oppose eachother. The problem I have, is that due to current design, Power Block has no effect on thieves. You’re saying it’s designed like that due to thief’s initial design, but that means it ignores OUR design as well.
As I said earlier, all I want it some effect on thieves. Whether it be a forced cooldown, INIT regen block for a few seconds or even INIT drain. I just want this trait to be as detrimental to thieves as it is to any other class.
@fay
I agree that ANET needs to see this issue and do something about it. That’s why I want to bring it into a real discussion. This really is an issue about design philosophies and flaws.
(edited by KeyLimPi.9031)
Not 10 sec CD but not reusable instantly, please don’t tell me you interrupted AA,thief has utilities as well, wasted initiative is enough just like chill imparing thief movement and utilities.
I tested it with a guildy to make sure of it. Interrupting a thief’s proper SKILL, doesn’t put it on cooldown or even penalize it. The main “test” was the channeled P/P Unload. I interupted it with Power Lock, Illusionary Wave, Magic Bullet, and Temporal Curtain just to be thorough. It stopped the skill (big surprise, I interupted it) and then it was put on a 1 second cooldown which matched my 1 second daze. This means Power Block did nothing other than waste my investment vs thieves. Not to mention Power Lock itself is a 5 second cooldown between casts so it’s not as though I could double lock the thief and pretend I was spamming headshot lol.
That’s why I brought up the subject. Most thief skills are instant in the first place, interrupting them is a challenge as it’s more or less a 1-2 frame window. In the off chance you’re able to hit them dead on with a Power [B]Lock why shouldn’t it put them on an actual cooldown or carry some sort of penalty?
I enjoy the idea of this trait but it doesn’t force a cooldown on the thief. How do you feel about this? I’d like to see instead of a full 10 second lock, maybe place a 5 second lock on the skill since they run different mechanics. You could also look at locking down their initiative gain for 3 seconds per interrupt?
Just spit balling ideas but I’d just like this to be more viable a route for lockdown, but at the moment it seems useless since 1 class almost completely ignores it.
This idea is a giant fail because it’s PvP-centric. The answer is no.
i dont think Anet would ever add a skill that only works in X game mode
WOULD ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO HAVE THIS IN PVE!!!
/sarcasm
Are you for real? How is this even a suggestion?
Racial Elites = PVE only
Mystfire Wolf = PVE only
Your opinion has been debunked good sirs
(edited by KeyLimPi.9031)
Originally, and understandably still now, people were upset that duo bow wasn’t viable because they wanted to “range with ranger”. I forget the post (I’ll look for it later) but an ANET dev basically said they were for more of a Tolkien-esk approach for ranger. So this has been bugging me really hard, why don’t rangers have shield THEMATICALLY?
Even though they didn’t physically show us that Iwarden is fixed. I believe them whole heartedly and look forward to giving up my days as a interrupt mesmer to becoming the best condi pu clone spamming beast that I can possibly be.
Now, can anyone point out a pretty scepter skin for me?
Is this even a real question? No matter what case there’s only 1 viable scepter skin Princess wand
Last time they promised the Illusionary Elasticity “buff”, warden “fix”
fixed it for ya
Still pretty sure you can just run away from a condi mes after the patch, how can they catch you? I don’t think the torment AA is going to be enough to really stop you from just leaving the fight. Granted that is wvw, spvp this is def a buff.
So it’s still fine if the enemy simply has to run away? Sure, give me a build that forces my enemy to either run away or stick around and die, makes perfect sense.
What exactly have you lost if you run away from a 1v1 in WvW?
It’s bad balancing, though I do agree with you, ONLY in WVW. PVP that’s an entirely different beast. If you’re forced to retreat from someone in PVP then you sacrifice a point. That’s grounds for a loss =P. That said, if it’s a condi PU build, they’ll be forced to decap their own point so at the very least you can cause a stalemate.
Somehow I had never encountered a good pistol-whip thief until recently. After getting beaten by one I spent the better part of tonight dueling another. I did not win once. Got close only a few times.
Right now I’m running s/s+gs shatter. Should I switch to something else?
I don’t understand how I’m supposed to survive the relentless burst! Any tips/help would be appreciated.
This is probably our WORST match up possible. Honestly, in this situation if you’re of equal skill level you shouldn’t win so don’t take it badly. Best thing you can do is just avoid the situation. Cloak and run
Edit: I run CI built. Though I have run Power Block and had a LITTLE success with them. If you can lock down their 2 or 3 then you’re in a much better position but I still suggest just running away. No shame in that, it’s PVP, not deathmatch. Go help your team and inform them of where the thief is running to.
(edited by KeyLimPi.9031)
The build looks nice, but I’d really rather run s/p or s/t than s/f. It’s not that I think focus is bad, I just don’t really like it that much.
Everyone has their own style, you still have an interrupt on your offhand so it’s fine. I just prefer being able to swap defensively with the warden
I can learn how to get good at interrupting.
I’ve been having great performance with this. The entire goal is to keep the fight at your pace. Open with classic “gs burst” 4→2→3. If they dodge (even if they don’t) use your “fake” shatter (diversion). This will apply 5 stacks of vuln per clone. Swap to sword when they close the gap and then place down your focus field, Illusionary leap through for retal and if you catch them and Frenzy. Roll out of place and Mind Wrack. This’ll usually put the enemy on the defensive where they try to kite you. Plop down the broken warden of glory and if it doesn’t bug out, hide inside it to negate ranged damage or punish them if they leap to you.
There’s more to it but I’ve been having tons of performance with this as it’s been my main build for a while now. Holds up really well in PVP also so it’s good to train up in there. I’ll practice duel with you if you wanna learn your interrupts and combos.
Any Power PU specs?
Better investing in CI if you’re putting 30 in Chaos in my opinion. 20/20/30 is amazing if you’re comfortable interrupting key cooldowns. If not, from what I understand, PU power is a waste of time.
You know, it would be cool if Anet came to this forum and said:
“Hey we didn’t wan’t to hurt you, here we have activated SAB as permanent content in Rata Sum. We listen to this community!”
Dream on. As much as I adore SAB they care about this as much as they care about engineer backpacks.
Sure, we’ll make 80% of the Living story rewards absolutely useless to a class because we like the backpack!
Honestly I hope they give us a level 80 scroll. I’ve been playing 2 years, I’ve made 8 level 80’s, map completed 3 times and done living story/personal story on all my characters. I’m tired of leveling and I want to change one character to a different race but I’ll be kitten ed if I’m going to relevel again. I’m too tired of it. Hell, at least in factions I could L20 in 2-3 hours.
Played almost everyday since Early Access, still no precursor. Gave up the capacity to care about it at all. Screw it, don’t need it, gave up.
Hands down the worst pet system I’ve ever seen was FFXI Summoner.
I don’t know man. I had quite an issue with it when I started but macros really helped fix their issues. Plus, I mean come on…Carbuncle <3. That said I was a Corsair main =P.
People will not like me for this … but Trahearne should totally have a cameo and “explain” the whole thing to us – lol.
Not really possible. The reason treaderp was the leader of the pact was because he spent his entire lifetime researching HIS Wyld hunt. He literally spent all his time in Orr which is why he understood Orr and Zhaitan. The secondary reason was due to his contacts in each of the 3 “sects”. He knows nothing of the other dragons aside from, hey, they’re dragons.
Not only that but he hasn’t completed his Wyld Hunt so I don’t think he’ll leave Orr. After all, I have yet to see him cleanse any of it.
while the Arcane Council officially does not endorse or support the Inquest, they also turn a blind eye to a lot of their activities because sometimes their research, as cruel and immoral as it may be, is the only way to achieve breakthroughs in certain fields of science.
I wouldn’t go that far. After all, the Inquest is a legal krew AND has a representative on the arcane council itself.
Has any game ever had a truly successful PVP system? I hear so many say some game was great until… It seems no game has been 100% successful with PVP. That said I have heard a lot of praise for the system in GW1.
This is going to be a bit of a “you’re right/wrong” but I would say yes. There was an older mmo called Silkroad Online. It had 4 types of pvp in it.
Open World “MURDER”
You could control click and kill someone in open world. While most people might not be into that it did come at a VERY heavy penalty. You had a murder timer on you that would only tick outside of safe zones. In that time, people could openly PK you and you’d lose a hefty chunk of EXP (even delevel). It was rare to see, but it did happen every now and then.
Cape system
This was another form of “open world” pvp. Basically you had a slot that would hold a “job” accessory. Capes of various color could be put in that. Red/Blue/Black/Green etc. Anyone wearing that cape color was an ally, anyone else was an enemy. There was also a gold cape which was the “free for all” cape to just go and kill any color including gold capes. Most of the pvp was quarantined around the outside of safe towns and people generally had respect for ongoing duels/group fights. Sure you had the occasional kitten but that happens.
Guild War system
No pun intended. You were able to invite another guild to a guild war which would start a fully open world war between both clans. Points would be awarded every kill based on killer’s level vs victim’s level. You could also dedicate the war to end at a specific time or point limit. Guilds were also able to place wagers during the “acceptance” phase of the war. You’d sometimes see guilds better top tier items over it as well. Kept the game really fluid and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Only downside is if you had a guild that would scum out 1 point then hide in town till timer was over. Those guilds were generally placed on a community watch list however.
Job system
This was my personal favorite pvp mechanic introduced in ANY game to date. The game had 3 very large maps:
Jangan- Beginners capital
Donwhang- Central trade city
Hotan- Richest Capital (high level/end town)
There were 3 “jobs” in which you would simply equip an appropriate job accessory to start.
Merchant Flags
Hunter Outfits
Thief Garments
Merchants were the central job. They would go into towns and buy “Stock goods” and a transport. Transports would range from low inventory/high speed horses to high/inventory low speed yaks. Goods were placed into the transport and given a “star” rating. Depending on how many stars you carried, NPC thieves corresponding to the number would randomly spawn and attack you. The merchants main goal was to transport all their goods from wherever they started to any other town. The game had a built in supply/demand system so prices would fluctuate depending on how many merchants were bringing in the same goods. you were also handsomely rewarded if you were able to bring goods all the way from Jangan to Hotan.
Hunters were the protectors of merchants. Not much to explain here, your job is to fend off anything that tried to kill your merchant pal. Killing skilled thieves/high level npc thieves would also yield you a bounty for your efforts.
Thief was easily my job of choice though. You would start at the thief hideout and buy transports/recall pills. After that, go find yourself a 2 star merchant or higher. 1 stars had immunity on them and couldn’t be attacked by players. Anything else, you attack without discretion. After killing a transport (merchant was optional), you would summon a transport of your own and pack as many ill-gotten goods as you could. Immediately afterwords you would pop your recall pill which would put you on a timer. When the timer is ticking, it’s your job to protect yourself and your goods. As you now have a transport with “x” stars the same rules apply as that of a trader. NPC enemies will spawn to attempt to kill you and stop your journey. Not only did you have to watch out for other merchants and hunters, but your fellow thieves were also looking to get a taste of whatever profit you got a hold of.
Hey, lets give it another shot
I used to be really into GW2 and as a GW1 player I was willing to give the game the benefit of the doubt and explain away the first year as a “testing period” and “catch up” since we all know they had to release it earlier than scheduled release. I was a bit blinded by optimism and then work caught up with me and I had to take a break.
After coming back I expected to be…I guess I expected to enjoy it the same way, but now all I see are flaws. I want to adore this game, I really do, but I feel like they’re misappropriating their talent.
Don’t get me wrong, I suppose it’s just things I expected to see by now.
1-2 new weapons for each class
Some new skills (not just a storyline heal and class specific heal)
Precursor treasure hunt (more preferably a storyline quest for a soulbound one)
More “hardcore” 1-5man content
Player Housing
Class wide rebalancing
That’s been part of the game forever. Upleveled’s are easier to down, hence the term: Rallybot. You’re targeted for being weak. You’re being targeted because we want people to live. You’re targeted for bringing extra CC and potential heals. You’re being targeted for the bags. Mostly, I target you because I hate upleveled players.
I will always hunt you. I will always get my group to focus you. I will stomp you and steal your bag. I will destroy you. I will stomp your dreams, your hopes, and everything you hold dear…. I will be your ruin.
Nothing personal <3
Tornado is the only underwater ele barring racials.
Your skills for underwater are dependant on a PVE of PVP/WVW setting. PVE, just spam everything. Your group will benefit from the regen/vigor/blind/etc. that you’ll be throwing out and as most of your skills are AOE, the target doesn’t really matter. On the end of a rotation try to leave earth as last since the Bleed AA spam is probably our most effective AA.
PVP/WVW setting however, you are a CC machine. Start off in lightning and use your lightning cage. If they stability, swap to fire and use immobilize. If they don’t stability, force them to the surface with your bubble then go to fire. Afterwords, get in front of them and swap to water. Use your Swim Dash when they’re immob.- as it’s really your hardest hitting attack. Ice wall immediately after and swap to earth. Submerge them and then blind them. (This rotation changes a lot but gives you a basic thought).
Take Armor of Earth, Arcane Shield, then Mist Form.
I cannot tell you how much I agree with you with words alone. ANET needs to do this. While the bloodthirsty I NEED ACHIEVEMENT spammers won’t appreciate this, it still needs to be implemented. For a story to have impact we need contrast. Every. Single. Arc. we’ve been building up and building up. They keep trying to hype up each patch and add more chaos and random inane bullkitten.
Give us that solid, maybe even brief moment, where the weight of what happened can collapse on us. After we finally get rid of scarlet’s (frankly ridiculous) plot armor, and complete this. Give us a small Living Story where we see the Refugee’s reunite and the Captains Council holds a memorial. A single large monument to stand the test of time in order to be a constant reminder of their hubris.
Soft, depressing background music. NPC’s crying, consoling one another. The ability to talk to every one of the Captain’s council members and hear them apologizing to us for not listening. Names of lost NPC’s scrolled on the monument.
Commodore Lawson giving a speech with the other Captain’s about the tragedy and, listen now this is key, TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. Make the NPC’s recognize they were the one’s who let this happen. A key thing to add onto this, please for the love of god make them write out something heartfelt. Not some hamfisted POS speech like Treaderp’s “Does yous guys feel that? Them dragons be afreed of us”.
ANET you have to realize this:
I’ve been a fan of the LS idea. Even with the consistant missteps I’m holding true and saying “Give them the first season to test things”. We, for the most part, as players, can handle not winning. Not in the way you’ve forced it down our throats either. Scarlet has been a series of missteps but you’re trying something new, I can respect that. Everytime we “ruin” a plan and it goes along with her plan is bad storytelling. You also force LA to be destroyed instead of giving the players, say, a weekend long battle to ‘try’ and save it and then losing. The illusion of choice is much more important than choice.
At this point just recognize this much:
We lost.
LA is lost.
Lives have been lost.
No amount of bartering, payback, or self righteous ending of scarlet can change that. We, as people in the world, were insufficient to stop her according to your story telling. Let us deal with that. You wanted to create an evolving world? Here’s your chance.
The Council needs to evolve.
Their hubris caused LA to be undefended.
The Capitals need to evolve.
Where is the support for LA and for us? We’re all incredibly important people in the story arc, why haven’t they given us a chance?
The People need to evolve.
React to what’s going on. I’m not saying record 239502 new lines of dialogue in 5 languages, frankly that’s impossible. Just have them acknowledge what’s happening in the world.
“WE” need to evolve.
Aside from the hamfisted “what do you fear most” question from the Pale Tree, we’ve never suffered a real loss. Even if it’s due to your forcing us down a set path, we failed. It’s our fault Scarlet got the Sensor Probes. It’s our fault that Mai Trin wasn’t executed on the spot. It’s our fault Scarlet was able to create an effective super virus. It’s our fault LA is undefended because we didn’t plee to the council (who know of our Personal Story Deeds). It’s our fault people died because WE couldn’t find a way to stop Scarlet. Till now we’ve been invincible and nothing could stop us. Writing aside, Scarlet has shown us otherwise. The player characters have to have time to understand that themselves/ourselves.
Give us a vigil for the fallen, the lost, the broken. Let us think about our actions and the consequences thereof. Let us grieve for the fallen Lion’s Arch. Show us you’re capable of more than Cliches and Explosions.
Trust me, for those who story matters, we can take it. For those who the story doesn’t matter? Give them a 5 point achievement called “At what cost?” when scarlet is beaten. Then 5 more at the vigil called “In Honor of the Fallen”
Let-us-change
Also…meant this to be a 1 paragraph thing but went on a tangent >_>" my bad.
TL;DR: There isn’t one. Patience is a virtue, read.
My ele commander build. Remember, as a commander you’re not there to do damage or be OP or anything like that. You’re a focus point for the zerg. You let them know where the group is headed, how to handle it, when to bomb. Without you there’s no direction. It should be obvious your goal is to STAY ALIVE. Proper positioning + Survivability are key.
That said with this you can provide AOE heals/condi cleanse/and stability. Also when you "restack? swirling winds negates a tons of poke damage and ranged pressure. Don’t neglect tornado either. That tool is AMAZING for breaking through the frontline. Pop tornado and get through chokepoints then turn it off, simple as that, treat it like a temp HP boost and nothing else.
Again, I will reinforce how important it is for you to STAY ALIVE. In order to do this you have: Swirling Winds, Obsidian Flesh, Magnetic Wave, Arcane Wave, Final Shielding, and Mist Form. Those are all great damage negation tools which is what you need.
So…you mean Flyff?
