New to GW2 - My thoughts so far

[Edit: All this is for the OP, couldn’t be bothered quoting it all]

From reading the intro of your post I could already get a good sense of what kind of a gamer you are and the rest only confirmed it.

So you play 10-12h a day, probably the same in WoW looking at your super awesome impressive achievements. Thing is… what else do you do? And that’s an important point. You try to dedicate your entire life to a video game, of course you will run out of content. This is not a life progression system, its not a place to find accomplishment in your life. All that stuff happens out there, in the super high resolution game, you know, real world. Video games should be more like casual entertainment not something you build your life’s meaning around. So don’t come demanding features that would make YOUR deranged approach to games work in the expense of everyone else. And yes, DPS meters would ruin it for the casual folk who play the game for some casual fun since people like you, who take all this too seriously, would instantly use them to discriminate people who have other stuff to do in their life and are thus “scrubs”.

Speaking of scrubs, you wrote that:
“Once you learn to recognize all the €10 suits it’s easy to separate the real farmers/pros from the casual scrubs…”
You do realize that those “scrubs” are the ones that keep the game’s servers running and staff paid? Not you, not the players who farm mindlessly till the cows come out, no. All you contribute is server stress, elitism and LFG discrimination.

So maybe rethink your life, do some yoga, get a summer job, anything. I’m quite sure this would alleviate most of the problems you currently see. Its not the game, its you.

There’s tons of things to do in this game if you look past the rewards. I mean, go chill around Timberline Falls, its a gorgeous map. Go do the events, learn what these little hubs of activity are doing and how you can help. That kind of stuff.

Anyway, I know this was quite harsh and snarky but I wanted to get my point across. If its too much for you to deal with then just scroll past.

Cant decide between charr or asura male.

Charrs look silly as casters but I like they say when swapping atuments. Rat casters are better because they are less obvious with animations.

Why in the world would you want less obvious animations? If anything I’d prefer more visible animations (this is not a PvP only forum, remember? So many people seem to forget)

But still, my ele is an Asura because Asura casters king of make sense to me. Also Asura’s have some cool racial skills like Technobabble that is actually quite useful, or the golem suit that is just fun to play around with xD

The fact that you have Linux on so many different things doesn’t mean that a Linux gw2 client will run on all these things. Don’t forget the CPU differences here, phones are all on ARM CPUs for example so an x86 Linux build isn’t going to work on them. And even if it did you would have the resources to run the game anyway

GW3 - Next Gen

this might be too early to bring up but when do you guys think anet will start working on the next gen gw3?

i just saw some gameplay of a unrelease game for the first time and i couldnt help but notice some similarities with gw2. (not promoting the game, just comparing it)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5Xx3MdqdgM

the graphics are unbelievable, the art work, environment, culture, and even the game combat style are so alike to gw2. however, the most important thing it lacks is magic elements and the touch of fantasy.

point is, could we be taking a look in gw3 with directx 12 and much more?
because if anet heads this route in the future, i fear for my wallet lol

This is a PS4 game…. a console game. Why do you look at consoles for graphics marvels? PC is where it’s at, PS4 cant even handle 1080p 60FPS so it makes no sense to look for new awesome advances in gaming technology on it, or any console for that matter.

What do you do for fun in game?

Usually when I get bored, I just play something else. Its not like Gw2 is the only game in the world. To be honest I quite often switch to something else even before I get bored of Gw2, just because some other, better, game comes along. I play games for fun and as such I play the game that is the most fun for me at that point. Maybe you should do the same

How is it bull?
Seems to me like a fact, if he had been better at the fractal, nobody would have spoken, which is how most pugs run. In complete silence.
No idea where your victim blaming rant is coming from.
maybe if we see it as a genuine question : are you a casual pug?
Then it changes everything.
I ran Cliffside the other day with two people who had no idea, the leader explained every step, was refreshing.
Maybe the guy the op is talking about wanted to help.

Ok let me use my example again to illustrate my point to you (btw you really need to learn to differentiate between a rant and a normal discussion)

If you wear a burka then the chances of you getting kitten d are much lower. Now if a woman wore a very short skirt and did get kitten d, will we then say that she shouldn’t have worn the skirt?
Same applies here. Yes his different play style probably did bring about the comment but that does not justify the comment. You cant seriously say that you should just play better and consider that as a solution. That’s just blaming the victim for the incident.

The fact is that there is no rule that you need to play in a specific manner. If the person who got mad was expecting a quick run but didn’t get one then he just needs to readjust his expectations. Going into random LFG groups and then telling them how to play in an aggressive manner (or just calling them names) is not OK and should even result in an a swift kick from the group in my eyes.

That is complete bull. Your path of logic states that it is OK to call people names when they are not as good at the game as you are.
By that same logic you could say that short skirts justify kitten .
Blaming victim for the incident makes no sense.

Point of the story is.

If someone doesn’t play “perfectly” then rub it off your shoulders OR leave the party/group instantly.

If you instead prefer to call them names (regardless of how “tame” they may be) then be prepared to be called an a22hole or garbage afterwards.

You all have a great day.

Agreed. We once did a dungeon run with 4 guildies and when one of us didn’t stack where they should stack a pug we had swiftly pointed out that “he should use his brain”.
I would have kicked him right there, and I should have, but my GF told me to be nice so I was and told him to F himself instead

Self righteous brats that think that their way is the only way need to be shown their place swiftly, especially if they pull that in a guild run.

Does the fact that kitten is widespread in India then also justify it?
Sorry just didn’t quite get what you were going for with that comment

When did I say it justified it? maybe I should clarify, when I said “in the normal range” I meant in comparison to some things that are said, there’s no curseing, racial slurs, long drawn out insulting, threats of violence etc; just “casual pug”.

However not once did I say it was right or acceptable, infact I have said numerous times that I dislike the negativity and bad attitudes.

That is awesome.

So instead you come here and call everyone that acts like that garage and you call people here aholes so how is your attitude different to the guy who called you a ‘casual’? Pretty sure calling people garbage or kitten is worse than being called a casual.
You are a casual but have the attitude of an elitist.

Actually in the normal range of online insults… Casual Pug is EXTREMELY tame.

Carlito, the forums are a great place to talk, but coming here and thinking you can make a post calling others garbage, and expecting everyone that reads it to treat it as a public service announcement is just plain unrealistic. If you want to stop negative attitudes, start with your own.

So what? Do you need safe space from the mean people that are telling the truth? Oh boy, you’re so perfect, you have a LIFE! Who would have knew? We all have lives, we all have families (part of or our own), the majority of us either study or work. And guess what? Not all of those are casuals.

If your time must be divided between a videogame, a job and a child, then set your priorities. That videogame should be the lowest on the list. I never understood this pathetic argument. I’m bad at the game because I have a wife, child, job, A LIFE, thus you are a no-lifer useless keyboard warrior.

News flash. You don’t need to play 24/7 to be good at this game, which, is in itself casual compared to the majority of titles, online or offline. But I guess you are so bad that if someone is able to facetank the new archdiviner on a zerker mesmer you think he is a no lifer. Why didn’t you say it to that person in game? Afraid? Aren’t you also a keyboard warrior by threatening others over the internet with violence? Let me guess, in real life you are a promoter of “tolerance and acceptance”.

You were bad, but your fragile ego cannot accept the truth, it haunts you so bad and you go on the forums making a useless topic acting like some sort of though guy. Grow up, kid and git gud.

There’s always this one guy with his “oo you’re so special with your life” comment. It seems to me that when people say that they have other things in their life besides video games then that really gets under some people’s skin and prompts them to write a comment like that.

Edit: Playing 2h a day might seem super casual to you Lux but by real life standards that’s already hard-core. The 10h gaming sprees some people pull should’nt be called hard-core, it should be called pathological behaviour

How challenging is Ele/Temp to Play?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Khadez.4958

Khadez.4958

If you can bind F1-F4 to your mouse somehow then swapping the attunements isnt that difficult anymore.

Playing zerker staff ele in PvE open world content is more difficult due to your super low health and low armor but in it’s own weird way it’s a bit easier than other classes I have played with because it can burn down enemies that much faster so the fights don’t last that long. For an example, I often use the following rotation where I start in air since air gives you faster movement speed so its a good attunement to be in when out of combat anyway.
Glyph of storms → Overload Air → Attune to fire → Lava font → Meteor Shower → Overload Fire
That puts out a good amount of AOE damage so you can burn down your opponents rather quick. Also, if you have the trait then the air overload gives you shocking aura which protects you a bit. And furthermore, if you have the fire trait then if you do happen to go down after the fire overload (thats when your burst ends) its still fine because you will drop another lava font so your enemy will potentially be standing in 3+ fire fields.

On the assassin’s trinkets, they are useful but super hard to get if you dont have them already. You need to complete the Arah and CM collection to get both and dungeons being dead for now doesnt help in that at all (you could also do sPvP tracks if you’re into that).

Won't be getting Legendary armor!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Khadez.4958

Khadez.4958

My post about goals and such when playing a game did go quite off topic so I wont go into explaining my points since that would drag us away from the point even more.

What I wanted to add is that I do 100% agree with the comments that it should be made possible for casual players to progress their legendary armor set at a slower pace just like they can progress toward their other legendary items in a slower pace. The current raiding system kind of gates raids away from the more casual folk and thus makes that slow progression impossible.

Also, I don’t think many people have multiple ascended sets. Its quite expensive to craft and if you have 1h a day to play then its quite difficult. Also, if you tend to switch your main from time to time (like I do… switched like 5 times now) then building up a history or cool stuff on your character doesn’t work either since every time you swap you essentially start from scratch (especially if the switch also meant switching armor class).

This expansion is falling apart. [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Khadez.4958

Right after the initial release of HoT, initial sentiment is that there is a lack of content, some being incomplete. However, people held onto hope as they waited for the coming future releases to fill out what’s missing. Instead, it seems like more and more stuff is getting delayed or outright gutted instead.

First, there were only 4 new zones in a expansion, and one of which is badly balanced and is little played. The rest 3 zones features only major meta events instead of small quests such as hearts that are all geared toward getting components for the coming legendarie weapons. Then you have the 2 newly raid zones, whose rewards are heavily direct toward collecting parts for the coming legendary armors. There was also 0 new dungeons in the expansion, and the only dungeons revamped are fractals, whose ultimate reward is the legendary backpack Ad Infinitum.

But right now, Ad Infinitum is not in the game, nor is mentioned when will be released. Legendary armor doesn’t seem anywhere close to being introduced, and you just outright cancelled the majority of the rest of the legendary weapons. So what you have now in the expansion is a heavily revamped dungeon that promises no end item, a new feature called raid whose rewards doesn’t exist(and by the look of things, might possibly not exist at all), and 3 major zones where people grinded endlessly for items that are never gonna happen.

As a long time MMO player, I’d like to remind you the most important thing in a RPG game is not the story, not the combat, not the social system, it’s the reward. The game needs everything mentioned above to be a good game, but you should get your priorities straight. No storyline is amazing enough that it will keep players coming back day after day, months after months to play the same quests, and no combat system is great enough for players to hack away at the same old monsters for hundreds, some times thousands of hours over and over. Everyone keeps playing the same content again and again because we are all chasing that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow(whether we ever get to it is another story, but at least we are all trying). So seriously, stop making dumb moves, please. Jesus.

I would disagree with the reward part there. I guess it’s different for everyone but I find the story and combat to be much more important than the reward. If its not fun to play then I’m not playing it regardless of what the reward is.

Make XP Great Again

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Khadez.4958

Khadez.4958

I don’t really understand the people who say the skip over things they used to do just because now the XP they get doesn’t mean anything. Same here, the XP I get in core Tyria doesnt give me anything extra but I still res players, because its a nice thing to do. I still help lower levels with events and hero points because I like helping people. I still res NPCs from time to time because it feels good, they can go on with their life and whatnot, its a role playing thing . I also still do events from time to time, just for the hell of it. Blowing up stuff with my meteor showers is fun. I don’t see why you would suddenly stop doing things just because there is no reward attached to it. If you only did it to get rewards in the first place then perhaps you’re not playing the game to have fun but just grinding rewards for the next ‘fix’.

I much rather have stuff available in the open for me to play around with than have them gated behind “progression”. That just forces me to do stuff I don’t want to do to unlock stuff I want to do.

On the topic though, adding a simple reward to celebrate another full XP bar would still be cool. It wouldn’t change how I play but it would be cool to see a small chess pop up, rewarding me with a mystic coin, a spirit shard or whatever every once in a while. I just don’t want to see anything gated behind it, else sooner or later it will force you to grind it and that takes all the fun away.

Won't be getting Legendary armor!

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Khadez.4958

Khadez.4958

This might be a little off topic but I just wanted to give my 2 cents on some of the things I’ve seen in this thread.

1) Someone said that if legendary armor isn’t exclusive to raids then the reward for raiding won’t be there and people won’t raid anymore. Also, he said that doing it just for the fun of it only works for a couple of runs and then dies off, it becomes a grind.

It does become a grind, you’re right. But adding a carrot to the end of the grind doesn’t make it better. It just fools you into repeating the grindy process over and over and thinking that you are having fun. It seems to me that more and more people get fooled into doing boring mundane stuff just for the reward. It shouldn’t be that way, the design of the game should be so that playing it is fun and the rewards come as a bonus. If people log into your game only because they need to do X Y Z today to make progress towards their reward then you’re doing it wrong. People should log in to have fun. I’m sure many people have looked back at some of their long gaming sessions and thought “why on earth did I sink so much time into this?”.

2) Exclusive raid rewards allow the raiders to stand out and feel accomplished

If you raid to get rewards that allow you to stand out and look successful in a game then you’re doing it wrong. Raids shouldn’t be the place for people to seek success and accomplishment, games in general shouldn’t be that place. That’s the energy you should be spending outside, building a career, finishing your studies, etc. This comes back to the same point I made earlier, games should be played for fun. If its not fun and you’re doing it just for the rewards then its time to take a break and do something else.

3) Casuals just want a reward button

No we don’t want a reward button. What we want is a fun and accessible way to enjoy the content ArenaNet developers create. I don’t want to wrangle with countless elitists in LFG to get a swing at Vale Guardian, only to be then kicked because one of my items was exotic not ascended. Also, the meta gets pretty tight for hard content so you cant even play the class you like. I like Daredevil for example but they aren’t really wanted in raids so I had to create a Herald just to get a foot in the door with raids.

As an extra point, I don’t like that they included new story in the raid wings. Especially that it was story linking back to Gw1. As a veteran Gw1 player I have waited for a story connecting back to Gw1 and now that there is some, its gated behind raids.

All in all, reducing the difficulty accomplishes many important points in my opinion.
It opens the raid experience up to more casual players.
It opens the story up for a wider population.
It reduces the reward of grinding for excessive amounts of time instead of doing something more productive.

From the game’s point of view, super hard content punishes people who put their time to the right place and play games just for some fun and rewards people who sink massive amounts of their time to the game instead of doing something more productive. That just creates more potential neckbeards who built their whole self image on accomplishments made in games which falls apart the moment they step outside. That’s not good for anyone.

Just my 2 cents

Edit: fixed some typos

Edit: I’ll put the reference to the Skinner Box video here. It could prove useful to elaborating on what I meant above.

Do some research and actually play some ranked before you talk to me buddy.

So go play your unranked where Thief is good, I guess, but when you wanna hop into the big boy leagues, don’t roll a thief because you are countered by everything.

Those argumentation skills…
Trump, is that you? Secretly playing Gw2? Really sounds like you.

Please, use better argumentation than personal insults if you want people to actually take you seriously. Also, using caps does not make your point more clear nor does it help your argument, just makes you look like a person who thinks screaming is an effective way of defending your point.

On the balancing ideas, two points.

First, the whole thing is centered around PvP. PvP is only a third of the game. Have you thought your ideas through for PvE and WvW? How would it affect high level fractals and raids for example? There is no mention of group support and that is what we really need.

Second, most of this stuff seems overpowered (6 sec evade skill, really?) and aimed at thieves who have a dagger in their main hand. From reading your responses, most of that also revolved around backstabs. Dont try to pigeonhole all thieves into playing Dagger/X builds.

Also, if you think other classes are so OP then why not play them instead? Its not like sPvP restricts you to the character you poured countless hours into like PvE does.

Necros, reapers and group support

in Necromancer

Posted by: Khadez.4958

Khadez.4958

Hey

I’ll just start of by saying that I really like what they did with the Reaper.
It has good DPS, its fun to play, it looks cool and it can survive well. Necro is the prime candidate to take over the role of my main if my main should shift (its Ranger at the moment).

However, even though Reaper does seem really good on its own, it doesn’t give too much to the party. It has very good vurn application and it has some neat stuff under Blood Magic but that doesn’t really compare with what Warrior for example brings.
I’m worried that even though Reaper will be very good, it still wont get a spot in the PvE meta because of that limitation.

It would be really sad if the PvE meta carried on as it stands currently (ele/warrior/guard) as that really limits options for people in PvE
And Im not saying that everyone should play meta builds and party comps but it would be nice to be welcome in a meta party comp with a Reaper for example, or a Ranger, and not look at the LFG tool thinking “Hmm, nobody wants the class I play… I better make my own party”.

What do you guys think?

Nerf all the things!!! \o/

in Ranger

Posted by: Khadez.4958

Khadez.4958

I really cant understand why WHAO needed to be nerfed, and even more so, why so fast?
Especially the might 3 stack cap. How is transferring 5 Might stacks from your pet to yourself considered OP when warrior can keep 25 Might on the whole party and that is not considered OP? Is it because warriors don’t probably use Phalanx Strength in PvP and all balancing is done for PvP? But then again… many other overpowered PvP builds have been hanging around for ages. Is it some sort of a grudge against rangers?
It would really help is the architect of this nerf came to the forums and explained his reasons but I’m not really counting on that.

I’ve been prepping my necro to perhaps take the “Main” role over from my ranger once HoT launches. The recent changes however have made me feel that perhaps I want to stick with ranger after all and still have a reaper as a side character. Seeing how the nerfs get fired at rangers from the hip don’t really give me much hope though.

I just hope reaper doesn’t get nerfed through the ground because “oh god, it may actually steal some of warrior’s thunder”. But it probably will since the favorism is strong here.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant. Just, looking at the future as a non Guardian/Warrior/Ele player (in PvE) makes me sad.

We Heal as One Feedback [merged]

in Ranger

Posted by: Khadez.4958

Khadez.4958

This could be a way to do it but it would reduce this skill’s potential in PvE quite a bit. I see no problem in splitting the skill for PvE and PvP so both sides can be happy. Balancing the whole game based on PvP gives you weird artifacts like the state Necro is in now (quite good in PvP as I’ve read, not all that great for PvE).

All in all, I hope no change will come to this skill at all.

Edit: Reading the other threads, its quite sad to see how the PvP community seems to think that the entire game should be balanced around their wishes. Why should one game type be favored above others? I get it that A-Net is trying to push for E-Sports but I don’t think it’s right to sacrifice other people’s (the PvE crowd) experience for it.

We Heal as One Feedback [merged]

in Ranger

Posted by: Khadez.4958

Khadez.4958

I see a lot of people saying We Heal As One (WHAO) needs to be toned down. That may be true for PvP, I don’t play PvP so I wouldn’t know. But for PvE I don’t think its too bad. We have had ridiculously OP stuff on other classes for ages, I don’t see a problem with having something strong that differentiates us on rangers.

So here’s the main thing I wanted to say.
If a fix for WHAO is needed, please split the skill for PvP and PvE and fix the PvP side. The PvE side is fine, it adds quite interesting gameplay and even though there is a possibility to create insane boon uptimes, it also takes considerable investment (for example you need to spec into Nature Magic to get Fortifying Bond while most of the other traits there are useless for a power ranger).

Just my two cents

Well its just a matter of what your view on gaming is then. I didn’t get a reward but I didn’t feel like I wasted my time. Because I didn’t do the event for the reward. I did it to check it out, see what it is about and if I like it. Wasn’t my cup of tea so I left after a couple of events. Had it all worked fine and I had gotten the reward, I would have still left. I don’t play this for rewards, I play it to have fun. And if the experience isnt fun then I wont play it, regardless of the rewards. Also, this is the reason why I still don’t have a legendary

Edit, to Rebound:
It doesn’t matter if others do it free or not. The fact that this event being added to this game didn’t impact my well being in no way what so ever means that even if it’s bad, I have no reason to complain. Its not like I lost something, I just gained less than usual.
Also, you may have misread but I said that I myself didn’t enjoy the event. But even then, that doesn’t mean I should complain.

Hey

I just wanted to come by and thank you guys in A-Net for the Mordrem event we had.

I played it a bit on Friday. When our event ended, many people didn’t get a reward (me included) and the map chat just went mad. People were complaining and calling names all over the place. It was quite sad to see this, there was also an A-Net member there and it must have been horrible for him/her. I myself weren’t really bothered that there was no reward for me. I mean, come on, I come to play the game I like, and playing it is fun. I don’t need a reward for doing something I like. If you don’t like the game but play it just for rewards then you are probably burnt out, go take a break, watch some Netflix.

This brings me to why I wanted to say thanks.
Guys, A-Net added an event to the game, for free. You could play it if you wanted but you weren’t forced to do so. Don’t start swearing and calling names in map chat because you felt entitled to a reward and, oh no, you didn’t get any. Be grateful that a free update was added and play it if you enjoy content like that, or ignore it if you don’t. To be honest, the content wasn’t quite my cup of tea. When I played it a couple of times all I did was run around in zergs and kill mobs, that’s not the gameplay I enjoy. But I don’t go calling A-Net names because I didn’t enjoy the content. I payed nothing for it, I wasn’t forced to participate. I think it’s cool that they added something to the game, maybe not something I myself would enjoy, but something none the less.
I guess it kind of boils down to people taking video games too seriously. Don’t use video games to get that feeling of achievement in your life or that feeling of success. Go find a job, pick up a hobby, do charity work, whatever. These things make you feel way better at achievements than scoring a shiny sword in a video game. Video games should be a means to relax, sit back and do something fun. and I mean DOING something fun, not doing something you don’t like for a shiny reward in the end.
But maybe that’s just me, I guess everyone’s got their own opinion.

Anyway, this is getting long.
Once again, thank you A-Net for the free update.

Account stealing scam!

Hello. The aim of this post is to rise awareness and to bring this to the attention of the devs.

My girlfriend received an in-game mail today telling her that her account has been suspended and that she needs to go to a website (link given in the mail) and enter some information. The link seemed legit because it contained the correct http://account.guildwars2.com part. The trick was with the rest of the link, the domain, did not actually end with .com but was followed by another string of text, thus making it seem like it is a correct guildwars 2 site while it is actually not.
Heres an image of what the mail looks like (names removed):
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/NWUQbyJEc5W0LaC_T2QwJWe7yd7-WrwzKAhQV2BNQBzKm-YyG_xICp5ADE1ZTccg6Rs-W33p7-k=w1896-h875

I opened the link on a virtual machine (just in case… you know) to see where it led and it took me to a site which looks identical to the real Guildwars 2 site (see image below) that asked me to enter my e-mail, my serial code and my character name. I don’t know if they can get past the log in procedure with that information (especially with the IP check on top of that), but I guess they have some trick up their sleeve for that.
Here is what the site looks like:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/7LsrVRgwKCpan2-xvBaoPnDFntzvrB52E_4Ke8SHrsjFpdMFGXO2PUSe3-AANkUFJoVKBXAsAJI=w1896-h875

Anyway. If anyone receives an email like this then please don’t give away your account information and instead report the email sender to the devs. I think Arenanet would NEVER ask for your account details like that. Also, good job devs adding the little bar at the bottom saying “This mail is not from Guildwars 2 team”, it really helps in cases like this.

I hope this gets the relevant attention and that people don’t fall for the scam.
Happy exploring!

Suggestion: iOS companion app

I like the idea but if they made it for just one platform then they should choose Android not iOS since Android’s worldwide market share is way bigger and thus it would reach a wider audience (reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_operating_system).
Ofcourse it would be awesome if they made an app for both platforms

Just a couple of things I picked out from your reply
Marionette – I found that interesting. Ofcourse it gets old if you do it many many times but at the first couple of runs it was interesting
EOTM – I didnt quite understand you… you dont like it? Why?
Fractals – You just discard these new maps because you dont like them? It still new content you know, whether you like it or not.

There’s more but I wont waste time answering them.

As for roleplay, I for one really enjoy story driven stuff. The new LS is a good example once again. I love the story, I love the new area. And a new one is coming in a week. Awesome!

So I repeat, it seems that this game is not for you. You dont have to force yourself to play it, go play something else, come back in a week when the new LS is here or maybe later in future when something else you like arrives.

Also, your post still has no suggestions

And yes, it is littering. There are tons of threads like your, all whining about the same thing. (you remind me of this guy a little)

Consider everyone

Getting quite tired of people whining here about lack of content and what not.

MMORPG = Massively multiplayer online role-playing game
And I am quite happy with what Arenanet is delivering. The new LS season has started very nicely and feels like it’s going in the right direction. The game is not too grindy in the sense that you dont have to spend tons of time grinding gear just to be on par with others. Or is that what you would like? Endlessly grinding dungeons to get better gear?
Then there’s the rewards… you said that casuals get rewarded as equal to “hardcore” players. I find that good… should a game reward someone for spending their youth indoors playing it? I dont think so.

In the end I guess it really comes down to everyone’s personal preference though. Your’s doesnt seem to be Guildwars2. Go play something else then, easy. Just stop coming here and littering the forum with threads about “lack of content” when in reality there is content, plenty of it.

(Edit: And btw, it’s not f2p, it’s b2p)

The logic of "Defiance"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

You can CC a boss, they just have around 5 stacks when you do any CC on them. I think the main reason for this is so you can’t just CC the boss to crap and pretty much maintain 0 DMG from the boss. I don’t think it’s intended to show that a boss is “heavy”

Hehe ye I understand how “Defiance” works and what it’s purpose is but I think that for the purpose of immersion (or well, just to have the world make sense), game elements like this should have a meaning. And “Defiance” would make sense if it suggested that the boss is big and heavy and you cant CC it because you are small and weak compared to it But then, there’s the movement :/

Hey there

While doing dungeons I noticed an interesting thing.
Bosses have “Defiance” so you cant CC then really. I can understand why that makes sense on bosses, they are big and heavy, you don’t just knockback a huge mob right? Makes sense to me.
Now I would be fine if that “Bosses are big and heavy” logic went all the way, but then these bosses do a 180 degree turn in a split second… That doesn’t make sense in my eyes and becomes annoying when you try to position yourself relative to a big boss but the boss outmaneuvers you.

I think that mobs that have “Defiance” on them should not be able to move or turn around fast. They should rather move like a heavy, bloated thing would… slowly.

What do you guys thing?

I just want to put in the contrast of how easy this was on warrior. Defiant Stance -> GG, no need to figure out heal values needed etc.

I would consider this as a bug/badly thought out mechanic. Ranger’s stone signet and “Protect me” didnt work there and I assume that other classes invulnerabilities dont work there either. So it is either a bug or a bad mechanic to leave one skill in game that totally breaks the challenge.

Try wearing a greatsword on Sylvari medium T3 armor. It clips like crazy but o well I’m used to it by now, just need a weapon that doesnt make the cliping too obvious. I for example use the Jotun greatsword, kind of blends in with my armor color so its not too bad. So yeah, just get used to it

While I also dislike the derogatory use of the term ‘Noob,’ having it added to the list of disallowed words really won’t help the underlying issue. That’s what really needs to be addressed, not the words being used. Simply filtering the words means that they will take a few extra seconds to either come up with something to bypass the filter, or simply use a different term.

A fair point.
Its difficult to come up with a good mechanic here though.
Perhaps a sort of ranking system where you can at least give the person a “-1” or something then.

Edit:

Op should try playing some LoL on the EUW server.

Ranking system idea was inspired by the system in place in LoL. It seems to work fine there.

Simply report the person for abusive language. Its use will be taken into context with the tone of the conversation. If the person is being a jerk, Anet does tend to do something about it. After being temp banned a time or two, people straighten up…at least for a short period of time.

Do they look into these cases with same seriousness as the cases where a bad word is used? If so then that’s awesome and solves my problem completely.

There was a person above who also used it in an offensive context.

I didn’t see anyone using it in an offensive context; I’m pretty sure they were deliberately being ironic, and therein lies the rub. “Noob” is so mutable that to cast it as a “bad word,” a reportable offense, depends a great deal on the interpretation the recipient decides to apply. In many cases the person using the word and the person on the receiving end are the same (as in this thread, already).

If you presume that the word is always meant to be offensive, then any use will offend you. However that presumption is distinct from the word’s true definition and common use. When they align (as with the other word we referred to) then you can call it a “bad word” worth reporting. If we can’t even agree on whether its use in this thread was meant to be offensive or ironic then encouraging people to report the word’s use, based on their own, personal interpretation, will just lend itself to abuse.

We must be from different worlds. I run dungeons with random people from LFG tool a lot. And every so often one of them thinks that they are so much better than that other guy and call them a noob in a clearly offensive context. This, I would like to report because I don’t like arrogant people. Especially if they get away without punishment. The problem is that until the use of “noob” in an offensive context is considered “report worthy”, there’s not much I can do.

My point is that the fact that it is not a bad word yet does not mean we should not think about it’s use and where it’s going.
The N word has not always been a bad word

I vehemently disagree with that assertion, but this is hardly the place to get into such a discussion. You admit that it is “not a bad word yet.” So you’re saying that you expect it to be evolving into an offensive word?

What I meant was that while the word it self has always had the offensive meaning, it hasn’t always been regarded as a “bad word”.
Also do the point that people use it in a non-offensive context here is because the topic of the post kind of calls for that. There was a person above who also used it in an offensive context.

And I don’t think that it should be regarded as a “bad word” in real life, mainly because it doesn’t make a lot of sense there. More so with “Hambow” and what else you suggested.

This all still doesn’t mean that the word and it’s use should be overlooked in virtual environments.

Also, to be sure I’ll say it again, I don’t think it should be censored, it should just be enough to report a person if it is used in an offensive context. Censoring it doesn’t make a lot of sense as the word itself is not harmful. I support censoring only those words which leave a negative impact on a person when read. Like regular swear words do when kids read them and add them to their vocabulary.

As to if it is as bad as the other N word. No it’s not, if it was it would be a “bad word” already obviously.

My point, thank you for illustrating it.

There’s always going to be words people use in a way you don’t like.

Either block(don’t socialise with) those people or ignore it. It’s just a word. Only you can let it offend you, not the user.

As I said earlier. Its not me that this is aimed towards. Its usually aimed towards newer people in a group I’m in a dungeon with. I’m not bringing this up because I am offended, I’m bringing this up because I don’t like how offensive and arrogant people get away with it.

And “I play how i want” along with “heal” and “tank”.

Nood is rarelly used offensively, maybe that’s just your personnal issue.

As I said, from personal experience (dungeon runs mostly), I see it being thrown around a lot. And almost always in an offensive context.

Compare “noob” to a word that starts with the same letter and ask it is really justified to compare them.

When I was writing this topic, this is the word I was comparing to in my head.
And I dont know where you live but from my personal experience 90% of times I hear someone using “noob” it is in an offensive context and aimed against new players who may not know all the tricks yet. And I find that annoying.
As to if it is as bad as the other N word. No it’s not, if it was it would be a “bad word” already obviously. My point is that this word is used alot like a bad word and should be regarded as such as it’s common usage is to offend someone.

Only noobs are offended by the word noob.

I disagree, I for one am disturbed when someone in my party intentionally offends someone else.

Maybe we should censor “bad”, “incompetent” and “pug” too. These naughty words hurt my feelings.

Well, “bad” can and is used in many different contexts. Its a different word in the sense that it is not reserved for offensive context, same for “incompetent”. “Pug” I have never seen in a sentence where someone tries to deliberately offend someone with the word, its rather used to describe a group

This is absolutely your biggest problem in the game?

Thanks for the laugh, noob!

No, it is not the biggest but it’s the one not looked at and as such I decided to bring it up.
By the way, thanks for proving my point about context

Thanks for ideas though.
