Hi all,
I am thinking about returning to the game after quite a break (ESO & BDO). I use to solo roam a lot on my engineer we are talking a good 12 – 18mths ago. I have 7 x level 80’s and really enjoy condition builds. So my question to you all is how are things now? I was thinking of playing my Necro but thought I would ask for some feedback fist. I understand a lot has changed, how is balance? I am not buying the hot expansion yet until I dip my toe back in for a week or so to see if I may return.

Any help advice or tips greatly recieved.

There are some great really experienced engineers on this forum that will chip in to help here, for my part engi is my newest character but has become my main (outside of guild raids on my Necro) and I roam all the time in WvW with my engineer, my experience his as follows I currently run a condition build with dire armour and rabid trinkets, P/P and 3 kits Bombs, EG and Toolkit. I prefer the block on toolkit that way I get the burn on pistol 4, which works great after a pull into box of nails followed by pry bar then burn.

Traits wise I run 30 10 0 20 10,
Condition builds give a lot of damage and control but I find a 3 kit harder to master, I am still learning a lot every day, I use to run a HGH build that was more forgiving due to the escapes and survivability.

Thanks for the comments in our guild runs I tend to run Necro or Warrior tbh, but im thinking of forcing my Engineer on them soon in Pug zergs i tend to just siwtch out toolkit for grenades and swap out short fuse trait for grenadier thats mainly because i try and roam all the time but if i see a zerg taking a tower etc then i will join them to leech but im not WP’ing to retrait :P

@ Blutstein yeah i need to work on my movement a little ive switched to using a Razer Nostramus recently and i love it but the movement still takes a bit of getting use to.

If you go full celestial you better have a build that goes with it or you’re gonna feel like you dont do as much damage on full cond or full power builds. I’ve been using celestial armor and trinkets for a couple months now and I wouldn’t go back to an other stat combo.

As for dragonites you can get a few in WvW depending on how well your server is doing and from wintersday gifts.

Thanks for that, yeah I got a few from WvW but only using 2alts you can get it a lot faster doing 3 temples and a world boss twice a day along with a load of rares, I have only just started PvE I was purely a WvW player but it’s amazed me how many drops you get in pve compared to WvW I know it’s a bit off topic but it’s still ridiculous how much wvw gets shortchanged.

Got a question regarding ascended armour and which type to go for.

This is for use in WvW as a roamer, I currently run a 20 10 10 30 0 HgH build with dire armour, rabid trinkets and dire weapons with Boon duration runes.

Now because of the cost, grind (I hate pveing for the dragonite) and time gating I really don’t want to make more than one set for my engineer I am wondering weather it would be better to craft an celestial set that way if I change my build in the future it is more middle of the road, and maybe run with traveller or divinity runes instead. So my question to the more knowledgable engineers here is what are you doing? Am I better going more middle of the road or sticking with dire?

I roam a lot in a HgH build and I use dire armour and weapons and rabid trinkets, this I find to be really effective! I run boon duration runes and food and tuning crystal for condition damage, I get 80% boon duration but only 20% condition duration! however with full stacks from sigil of corruption and around 20+ stacks of might I still have around 2k+ condition damage which is more than enough. I use to run a 3 kit build but lacked condition removal, this build I find a lot more robust with plenty of oh Kitten escapes if you run upon a Zerg etc.

To the OP I think as a roamer you need to understand that you are going to come across people who them selves are roaming and have an build optimised for that purpose, that usually limits your choices etc. to a few kinds of builds. I solo roam a lot on my Engi (no I don’t use perplexity), and I find that certain builds can be Hard to fight against (when I meet these I will usually try to group them and fight them a few times at the windmill to try and improve), but I have never alt f4’d and tbh I personally hate it when people do this. I think anyone who does should face a penalty like a deserters buff that prevents you from logging In to WvW for 30 mins or something. I know you say you don’t do it but the amount of people who do it when they are about to go down is on the increase and in my opinion it is a cowardly trick.

What about 20 0 20 30 0 it seems (correct me if I’m wrong) power shoes now gives a blanket 25% speed increase not just when in combat as previous. I know you will loose the -20% pistol skill recharge, but just after your thoughts.

Great vids, nice game play I use a very similar build apart from more condition based with dire armor and scavenger runes, a sometimes swap out toolkit for bombs when taking camps etc. and sometimes 2nd pistol for shield. If using bomb kit.

Yeah we have had some good fights, some drama and a fair amount of frustration, all that is needed for a great season just disappointed we didn’t finish higher up,. congratulations to Drakkar for 1st place. I’d like to say thanks to Dzag as I have had some great fights against them both solo roaming ( my little Asura engineer has had a great time), small group and in guild group runs, we seem to have met them the most this season. I would say that most of my correctly (no mobs around, not rushed before „bow” shout etc.) losted fights were with pretty big chance to win.

You lost 13 duels in sPvP, you are too chicken to come duel in WvW, and yet you’re somehow still thinking that you have an added value in this thread?

If good old bronze league EU the German servers especially Drakkar Lake have loads of Rangers they are everywhere!! It’s quite comical. I use to really struggle against rangers on my Engi but this has improved my play against them no end as I have now had loads of practice.
I mean at least 80% of the players I meat whilst roaming are Rangers.

Yeah had a few nice duels my self, there was a Mesmer there who was very good!! Forgot the server and guild tag, but had fun. To be honest not my favourite place as an open arena does not lend itself to kiting ranged classes and boy are there a lot of rangers and mesmers

You are wrong my friend, they rune of perplexity has no incoming nerf, i can guarantee you that.

They have been nerfed yesterday there is an 8 sec icd on the 6th bonus now. So it won’t get nerfed again and It still very strong. I use 3 kit build and swap out EG for toolkit depending on situation but with prybar, concussion bomb and pistol 3 you can still stack 15 stacks quite easily and reapply them pretty frequently I use either perplexity or scavenger runes depending on the mood I use dire armour and rabid trinkets with 1 dire weapon and 1 givers to give me 80% duration with food.

I don’t think I have ever seen as many rangers as I have the last couple of days!! DL you guys have loads lol binding roots ftw rangers OP :p

Please dont bring your guild raids of 20+ to Vabbi, its just overkill and the superior attitude which tends to come with most large guilds this far down the ladder is stupid.

I’d like to second this. If you want to come over with a small scale team or as a solo roamer, we’re totally fine with it. Vabbi encourages small scale and discourages blobs as much as possible. Keep the game fun.

Majority of players who are on Vabbi are there because they like the smaller gameplay, anyone looking to win left long ago because they knew that for that to happen the sheer amount of players required would be silly.

The odd hero guild joins once a month claiming to teach Vabbi to play and “we can win if you listen” but they soon get tired. The general server population simply aren’t interested.

Zergs = bad, big guilds moving down should not be surprised if there is a hostile reception. If there are to be any transfers it’d be better for them not to come from opposing servers, as there is reasonable balance among the bottom 3-4 right now and emptying one into the other would ruin that entirely.

Thanks for the fights today DL I had a couple of nice 1v1 at the windmill in WR and loads of small fights on DL BL it’s quite amusing to watch you call for backup because of my little asura engineer he only wants to make friends. It was a shame that as the day went on there were groups of 4-6 everywhere and anyone solo would run away, but hey ho I will see you all again later tonight with our guild group.

Im not complaining at all!! im loving it always camps to take, players to farm, its great for roamers long may the DL players keep this up but is obvious that quite a lot (not all im sure you have some good players) don’t know how to function out of the Blob.

Did anyone else have issues tonight? On Ring of Fire we had loads of lag issues with skills, rubber banding and DC’s etc. this happened to loads of people on the Rof. BL map just wondered if it was only us?

I need some help please I am really struggling against necro’s in a 1v1 situation I run a condition build, dire armour, rabid trinkets, P/S, bomb, Grenade, elixir gun 30 10 0 20 10 build the necro just transfer all my conditions and I can’t cleanse them, any tips on how to combat these as I’m really having a hard time, the only strategy I can think of is to run lols.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks for the fights tonight all, had a lot of fun on Dzag BL, think we saw 8 dzag golems retaking bay Lols, we knew you were building some but didn’t expect 8 omegas, but some nice fights and a nice one between north bay and sentry against another guild group (sorry I forgot your tag, it’s late and I’m tired).

I think Dzag will make us pay with your night coverage but all in all I’ve enjoyed tonight, let’s hope the rest of the week is as much fun.

Just after some advice on condition damage, I’m currently self buffed with sigils, food etc at about 1996, I have dire armour and weapons, rabid trinkets scavenger runes and sigil of corruption that I swap out at max stacks for sigil of bursting and sigil of battle. Just wondering if there is a soft cap? As I only have one ascended trinket at the moment. With food my condition duration is 70% .

What’s the max people usually run with in a condition build ? What should I be aiming for?

I agree I play 5 characters in WvW and they are all below rank 70 as I play them all in different situations I wish they would bring account bound WXP points so I could use my 300 points on each character to make them useful as at the moment you are completely handicapping yourself if you don’t play one toon in WvW and this is wrong ….. Rant over!!

The one thing playing Engineer has made me improve is my kiting, I run Bomb, nade condition build with p/s, and if I can kite round structure etc. it sometimes amazes me what I can pull off, also when I die it is usually because I made a mistake. I come from a playing mainly a warrior, guardian, necro and ele in WvW and engineer is by far my favourite, the class has so much potential that I can see that is just limited by my skill lols. However that is whilst roaming and in Pug zergs in organised guild runs I run guardian, warrior or necro depending on what’s needed.

I tend to use stealth a lot during the fight so I don’t always have the bomb and blast finishers off cd when needed, I could just be unlucky with Cd’s I drop B o B on them to try and knock the resser off but they always have stability and seem to get them up faster than I can get them down. Like I said I could just need more practice I was just wondering if there were any tricks I was missing

Just wanted some feedback or pointers in the right direction, been having a lot of fun roaming on my engineer but I have had this happen to me a few times now when I am in a 1 v 2+ situation If I have terrain on my side and I can kite them round structures etc. I have no problems downing them but struggle to get the stomps off, a lack of stability really seems to hurt me. I run grenades, bombs and elixir gun with P/S.

Any way my question is really can anyone offer any tips pointers etc. I may just be a bad and I may get better with more time (engineer is my least played in WvW). But loving the class for roaming at the moment, it’s just frustrating when you down 2 or 3 players but cannot get the stomps off and end up loosing.

If I come across 2 people fighting I will leave them be, sometimes I just stand and watch to make sure no one jumps in (I have had some good 2v2 ‘s this way) and to see how they play, but it is WvW so you do what ever you feel like, personally that is the rule I run by, but if I’m in a 1v1 I also don’t stomp people if I win (unless they have jumped me while taking a camp etc.) that’s just how I play it doesn’t mean I expect people to treat me the same way.

Haha I had to resist the urge to chase you earlier but you were dropping cookies from you pockets as you ran away, and some of our guild had only had arborstone players to eat and really fancied the cookies, they wanted to shake you upside down to make sure you didn’t have any stashed somewhere :p

I run nades, bomb and elixir gun, the best tip I can give you is get good at kiting and use stuff to line of sight I like to run round ruins, huts walls etc. whilst dropping bombs / grenades I find it very effective and defiantly improved my playing in WvW if I’m stuck in open field against a ranged class it can be a lot harder but I’m still a noob on my engineer
