I must say : Evon Gnashblade.
Evon on the Bazaar of the four winds LS, was probably the first time i laughed at a dialog:
Captain Evon Gnashblade: Sir, my assistant and I have come to understand your people.
Captain Evon Gnashblade: May we discuss the possibility of a trade agreement between your charming sanctum and the great city of—
Captain Ellen Kiel: I’m not his assistant, sir. I can tell you that my city has much to offer you, year-round. Our gardens—
Master of Peace: Ahem. Pardon my intrusion on your display of feathers. Tell me. Do your people support you?
Captain Evon Gnashblade: Absolutely! I am beloved among the people.
Master of Peace: And you, Lionguard?
Captain Ellen Kiel: What? Well…I’m rather well liked, I suppose.
Master of Peace: Good. You must both now impress me with the enthusiasm of your supporters. If you succeed, we’ll discuss a trade agreement.After the cutscene
Captain Ellen Kiel: If neither of us gets this trade agreement, it’ll be all your fault.
Captain Evon Gnashblade: My fault? You’re a mouse fart who thinks she’s a hurricane. Please.
Captain Ellen Kiel: Oh yeah? No more being nice. You’re going down, Gnashblade.
Captain Evon Gnashblade: (chuckle) Just stand aside, Ellen, so you don’t get your feelings hurt.
So I get an exemption for being Legendary?
I think for that, your words will apply
…So you’d be helping me out greatly if you had some factual elements to your statement.
It’s funny watching all the champions of this game twist and turn and lie over and over and change definitions to defend their position. It’s pretty spectacular the level of denial this thread contains. All the people who realized this game was P2W left already and are waiting for an actual sub game where they hope they won’t be nickle and dimed for every last look and feature.
Please be specific as to the “lies” being told. I like to think myself an honest person, so you’d be helping me out greatly if you had some factual elements to your statement and not simple assertion. I’d appreciate it a lot.
It only applies to you if you are a champion of this game. If you are, prepare to be farmed 24/7 for gold and loot.
You win GW2 if you’re having fun. It’s that simple.
^ Exactly this.
Everyone knows that some “contributors” have very well written arguments and suggestions that could easily improve the game. Those “contributors” often see the game past their own personal desires and greed, intending to create a better experience to us all. However, is there any advantage doing it? Maybe so, but it would clearly make those not so frequent who can have a equally good or better arguments less important than the said “contributors”.
The best way of getting the voice heard, is providing solid arguments with good evidence and data to backup the argument and allowing the growth of constructive feedback. Although we may not see a reply from the team as often as we like to see them, i bet they see it and decide if it’s worth exploring.
As for the negativity it will always exist in here. As there are no perfect solutions, many will agree and many will not. With the increase of the the games populations, so does the amount of players pending to both sides. Unfortunately, the ones that don’t agree are generally the first ones to jump into the boards, and go berserk.

Jeeze, 2 more pages of people trying to impress their definitions on others. Think it’s time to flag this post and get it closed. It’s nothing but two sides arguing over whose is bigger at this point.
Hello everyone.
We want to remind you to keep this thread healthy, productive and respectful. Otherwise, we will have to close it.
I think also this thread is long due for a lock. It’s unhealthy!
You mean like that MF / Gold Buff from the Southsun cove living story… It made the map quite full…
Pfft.
A ranger. With Dev powers. And she appears to have ditched her pet.
I think you’re missing the point.
There’s… something… about that wall!
You might be on to something Volkon. I’ll bet that is the platform 9 and 3/4 that leads exactly to Hogwarts.
That depended on personal perspective. People complained about fractal level not being account bound because they didn’t want to waste time leveling their alts. I’ve had 3 toons at level 49, where I leveled each and every one of them by putting time and hard work into them. Now that was also taken away in favor of being on equal footing.
People that put work into multiple characters were not complaining about level not being account bound, people that had one toon at high level and didn’t feel like doing fractals all over again on different toons complained.and in the end the outcome is exactly the same. Your 3 toons are still the same level as one another.
Exactly. So unless OP is kitten ed that others can get the toons at those levels without spending that much grind/work, what proves an incredible selfish attitude, i can’t understand that complaint either.
I can’t understand the reasoning behind this complaint. I really can’t.
What do you want for fractals?
She’s staring at the wall. I… I must stare at the wall too and see what she sees.
Not trying to leek anything, but i have sources that rangers will have a Juvenile Wall to tame! 100% Legit!
Reward Intrinsic Value VS Time Spent
If ANet can’t make this ratio high, the attendance will always be poor, no matter how many different colors you paint the event.
Horizontal progress alone won’t be a successful change in Gw2.
To make the transition from a slow vertical progression into a full horizontal progression, we first need to understand the reasoning behind the vertical progression systems. Vertical progression systems were created to keep the players hands full as time passes by. The gear grind although a penalty for some, became the driving force that pushed the players playing the game over and over. For the F2P and B2P MMO industry, profit is proportional to the time players spend on the game.
A while back, before the Living Story, Gw2 became stall. A lot of players became bored with the content the game was providing. “I got the best gear till now. Now what?” This question was being asked over and over again.
Without even realizing, the gear treadmill many were so eager to attack as one of the gamers deadly sins, is in fact one of the main driving forces for a player keep playing the game. The repetitive task became so repetitive that it became fun. Extending it’s repetitiveness became tiresome and grindy. Another solution was needed. And to relieve the players of the burden of the gear treadmill, was created the time-gated content. Time-Gated content became a mid term solution between the horizontal progression and the vertical progression. But instead of providing fun content, it made the exact opposite. It forced the player into deciding when they can get things!
Horizontal progression, needs to be followe by a deep change in the content. Allowing the players to horizontally progress and still make them want to play the game is not an easy task, and needs some serious efforts on ANet side.
Skins upgrade.
Atm we have so many weapons and armor exactly with the same skins. One of the things that could be done, were gear upgrades using the mystic forge and maybe some newer tokens. Dungeons needs to get revamped to include harder modes (like a heroic as someone suggested in another thread), and allow the harvest of the newer tokens, to visually upgrade the weapons and armor.
Functionality upgrades.
The gear could have better functionality.
-Depending on the gear, it could allow to choose 1 of 2 stats combo (like the legendary weapons/armors to every stat).
WvW, PvP and PvE need to be mutually benefited from the time one player spends playing one of them. The existant glory NPC should be a permanent feature, allowing to trade Glory for ExP, and other things. Exclusive armors for individual gaming modes, that could be used at any of these 3 game modes, using a skin bank (Like the achievement point reward skins).
So progression should bring the will to play and the fun from doing it!

GEMS to gold

Agony resistance

Upgrade extractorsThis is exactly pay to win
You clearly don’t know what the kitten is P2W!
For access, yes. I’m talking about for power, for win. In the game I mentioned earlier you literally bought “win” by purchasing the best ships and ammo in the game, and they were only available for purchase.
Now, pay for access can be pay to win if it gates you to the best gear or the like. If it’s to access a dungeon, for example, that doesn’t offer better loot than it’s not pay to win but it’s a definite monetization move (after all, who doesn’t want access to the new content?).
Pay to win has always been, in the past, about actually being required to purchase power needed to be competitive in a PvP environment. However the definition has become watered down and stretched to no longer mean what it actually meant anymore due to the stigmatic effects of the term when applied to a game. Basically, if you can label a game pay to win, even if it isn’t, it applies a stigma to the game that can be difficult to shake and can turn people off of the game.
+1.
I agree with VOLKON in everything he said.
I find funny how some players are getting the definition of P2W from some “not so reliable” websites, which explains the lack of experience regarding P2W games…
I played a game that i was FORCED to pay 50€/month just to stay at the same competitive level as someone else. Needing to pay 1000€ to enchant the gear to max level. Needed to spend more than 300€ for be able to run @ top speed. Clearly most of you that say this game is a P2W game, don’t have a kittening clue about what is a P2W game. But, i just want the answer to one question: What do you need to buy from the game shop to be able to stay at the same competitive level as someone else?
Funny bug Paul . First time i’ve noticed it…
Please tell me where and when in Gw2 you couldn’t evolve further without spending a single cent.
Last time i checked there was no kind of region locks. This said you could buy a EU copy and play them on US servers and vice-versa.
Tell one of those sexy ladies what your progress on getting Twilight is.

Does paying in game gold to buy the best armor / weapons considered pay 2 win?
NO. Ingame gold may come from multiple sources. P2W is directly tied with Spending Cash to obtain the said items.
I have a legendary (best weapon tier) and haven’t payed for it. Hard earned Gold to mats to craft it!
What can’t you understand?
Gw2 is NOT Gw1.
Any Cosmetics related subject is NOT Pay2Win. Never will be!
Pay to look pretty? OK. I can agree, but unless you are in a beauty contest, it’s no P2W!
Any advanced city have implemented a pest management system, to prevent the fast growth and sequential infestation. Rodents are a menace to Lion’s Arch and should be erased.
With the hate Asura have for the Skritt, i would believe that they are the ones responsible for relieving the city of such threat. Till the last one of them!

I guess we have different definitions of “WIN”, and i believe that’s the controversial reason about the P2W discussion.
Granting a HUGE advantage isn’t P2W. It’s a matter of accessibility and alternative.
I don’t find any PvE item (regardless on how much advantage it gives) to be a P2W item.
Items that give advantages in PvP, now that can be considered P2W only if there is no alternative way than spending a lot of cash, which there is none that affects PvP and none that is needed to spend a lot of cash.
So in all fairness, it’s all about Convenience!
If anything in the cash shop gave any player an edge when playing against others, i could say this was a P2W, but there is nothing. Even if a player spent a legendary gold worth of gems to buy one, in no case that could be considered P2W. The difference is so small when compared to an exotic weapon that all the difference relies in player skill and class balancing factors!
If you still wonder if this is a P2W game, just ask yourself the question: : "Did I ever lost to a player because he had that “X” item bought in the cash shop" ?
Now another thing is the heavy gold dependency. It can give the starting edge when a new gear/items appear, but that’s another story.
/Cheers
Even though i understood your point, removing WP wouldn’t be the best solution. Fast traveling between two different point allows access to different part of the games, within a relative short time. Players that have small gaming periods would be harshly penalized if they have to pass most of the time running around to reach the content.
Also, WP works as gold sinks. Although WP costs are too small to really make the difference, the game needs them to relieve the market of the excess generated gold. A better solution is to increase WP costs to account the inflation since the game begun and at the same time making players to think better if they want to spend the silver in that Teleport.
What could be done, is too increase the WP costs in the vicinity of a major event (World Bosses i.ex), when they are active.
Gw2 is too big for it’s complete removal.

It’s because Anet, for some unfathomable reason, still hasn’t tied transfer costs to average WvW participation, something I suggested many months ago. Having it based on total server population is completely meaningless and ineffective.
You and everyone else. It should be based on several aspects, but not WvW participation, or the high ranked low/medium participation servers would receive the flux of band-waggoners (what happened to SFR or PS back in the days) and the low ranked high participation servers are doomed forever.
It should be based on:
Tier position
End tiers (T7-T9) should be free to transfer (Cooldown of 3/4 weeks or 500g to transfer sooner).
Lower Tiers (T5-T6) – 500 gems.
Mid Tiers (T3-T4) – 1000 gems.
High Tiers (T1-T2) – 1800 gems.
Clearly you didn’t understood what I’ve written. I don’t disagree that there are OP classes and builds. I disagree that doing ALT+F4 to make a point or inciting others to do the same is Ridiculous.
The point, made many times, is not that certain builds of certain classes are overpowered. It is that certain builds of certain classes are inherently not fun to play against, regardless of how inherently powerful or non powerful they are.
You can’t expect to fight every class with the same builds (like power Necro) and get the same amount of fun from each fight! Some will be fair, some you will stomp and some you will be stomped. That’s the whole concept of WvW. Odds being always different!
Again, you are equating a fight being fun with that fight having odds in your favor. That is not the point that I am making. The odds can be very much in your favor and the fight can still be unfun based on the mechanics of the build that you are playing against.
My point still stands. I find ridiculous to ALT+F4 to make a stand. It’s abuse IMHO should lead to penalties and in the ultimate case to a ban. Like the League of Legends system!
Now, getting back to your main point about the alt-F4 strategy being stupid. I agree that it sucks (the topic is called “a kitteny decision I have made”). If I were playing a class that had disengage, I would see that my opponent is playing one of those unfun builds and just disengage. But, I am not playing a class that has suboptimal disengage so at least for now, alt-F4 is the best option when it comes to refusing to continue to fight.
hum…. I honestly can’t understand your decision.
You are basing the definition of fun entirely on your perception. More, you were inciting others to do the same, considering their definition of fun is the same as yours. To me your “kitteny decision” is never justified. It’s anti-game.
To me is quite fun to battle those builds. I always loved challenges and facing them is challenging to me. I may loose 8 out of 10, against those builds, but I’ll turn the table even if that means changing my build entirely. That’s the sole reason I’ve got 5 full equipment sets on my Mesmer.
Recently, when I have come up against one of these builds when roaming, I will just alt-F4. I dont care if they get a bag or if I have to run back from spawn.
^ Ridiculous.
If anyone else feels the same, I urge you to just alt-F4 when you come up against these builds.
^Even more ridiculous.
Let’s me put this in a way that i might not get an infraction. L2P!
Just because you get your feelings hurt against certain class builds, do that mean you should ALT+F4 the game? No and Never! Learning to win and Learning to loose are two sides of the same coin and quite needed in this kind of games. kitten happens. Deal with it…PS: I don’t have any of those “OP class builds” you are referring.
I am not sure how many times I will have to repeat myself.
It does not have to do with having feelings hurt against certain builds. It does not have to do with thinking that a build is OP. It does not have to do with player skill on either end. It has to do with certain builds being inherently un-fun to play against.
If I hated losing that much, I would stick to PvE or move to a different game. I have said this before in this thread and will continue to say it. Playing vs an unfun build does not mean the same thing as playing vs a build you lost to. Some of my most fun fights were fights I ultimately ended up losing. Just last week, I was practicing fighting vs the same dd ele over and over who was clearly skilled – able to dodge all my “set up” skills and interrupt me whenever I was trying to use a high-impact skill/heal. I lost. Over and over. But it was a good fight with a good back and forth and was a fun fight. Neither of us had to use the strategy “spam x” and expect to win. Neither of us reset the fight whenever things were going slightly in the favor of our opponent. We joined a part together eventually and mutually respected each other and the fights. I let him know that he was clearly more skilled than I was (which he appropriately agreed with) and asked for advice about becoming a better player.
During those fights I lost. Over and over. But they were fun because the core mechanics involved did not make the fight one sided. And by one sided, I do not mean one side was overpowered. I mean that one side was the one enjoying the fight while the other was fighting and possibly winning but fighting against a build that used a mechanic/mechanics that do not allow for a good back and forth fight.
Clearly you didn’t understood what I’ve written. I don’t disagree that there are OP classes and builds. I disagree that doing ALT+F4 to make a point or inciting others to do the same is Ridiculous.
WvW by it’s own definition is finding how to unbalance things. It don’t matter if it’s fun or not, as long as the points goes to either side. I’ve built my Mesmer in a way to counter the Thieves Stealth Mechanic, and never lost a fight with them since, so i evened the odds in my advantage. Others do the same, and some classes due to poorly design made have easy access to those game breaking mechanics.
You can’t expect to fight every class with the same builds (like power Necro) and get the same amount of fun from each fight! Some will be fair, some you will stomp and some you will be stomped. That’s the whole concept of WvW. Odds being always different!
My point still stands. I find ridiculous to ALT+F4 to make a stand. It’s abuse IMHO should lead to penalties and in the ultimate case to a ban. Like the League of Legends system!

This is Not Portuguese, nor English. Imho, it’s a Hybrid mutation powered by Google translator. Let me find my Brosetta stone and translate to the best of my understanding…
this is the Brazilian tier list for world vs world.
The best character first, the worst at last.Number 1 (The best)
Engineer (He is the best, good killer, #1, the best, always have new weapon every 2 seconds. LOL OP??? Uses flame throw + grenade for Huge damage, and don’t even need rifle to make the kill!! Lol! kill everyone with explosions!)Ranger (The best, #1 best class never looses fights with 20 rangers ! Lol!! Like power rangers XD. For maximum damage, just uses berserker armor with longbow, shortbow, kill with arrows, uses barrage for Huge Damage. LOL! For spells, just use Prayer to Lyssa (Big Health) and the lightning jump)
Number 2 (He is okay, not the best)
Elementalist (have a lot of tanking, never dies, why the kitten so much fire and water? LOL. How do u have fire & water? ArenaNet needs to fix, as it does not make sense LoL. He’s ok, no huge damage but can’t die, also looks cool with fire and lighting everywhere).Mesmer (When i fight Mesmers they’re all of a sudden 7 Mesmers? Explain glitches please and fix them or else it wont be number 1 class. Good Mesmer on my team makes me teleport, stealth without THIEF! Mesmer sucks, he needs to do magical shows in Las Vegas instead of being in guild wars)
Necromancer (I don’t know, why the kitten they have 2 health pools??? Explain how to kill 2 necromancers when it’s only 1? Another glitch, Please fix, Necromancers are always dyed black for some reason, LOL. Can’t you buy more dyes???)
number 3 (The worst, Never use)
Guardian (LOL noob guardians???Guardians are for cowards, Brasil is braveness! First time I played Guardian i got a virus on my new dell laptop. Don’t play Guardian, breaks your Guild wars 2 World vs World. GUARDIAN THE WORST)Warrior (THE WORST X2, really not good, sucks in World vs World. I Cannot throw axes so well, not viable character. I Attack 100 Blackgate players with 100 blades, lol y don’t they die??? Then Sword throw attack, i die! Explain how to use Warrior? He’s not good. Worst in Brasil X2. WORST DON’T USE)
Ok thank you for #1 best game in Brazil! hope to see everyone play tonight!

Is there a recruit a friend program with Guild Wars 2?
Not at this time. There are, however, occasionally trial weekends or weeks. =)
True, although i can’t understand why they don’t turn it as a permanent feature. (With any kind of caps).
From the official launch? Yes, it have improved a lot!
But as Volkon rightly said it, install (if that’s the case), play and make your own assessment.

It’s really simple to understand when you follow these simple rules:
1) Whatever class you are playing is broken, often irreparably. No one should ever play it, and you have no chance to do anything against any other classes.
2) Whatever class you covet is wholly overpowered. It’s completely unfair how it beats you every single time at everything.
^This logic is absolutely correct!
Being Overpowered or Underpowered it’s a matter of perspective often linked to L2P issues. Those cases that falls outside those issues, are really the ones that should be balanced accordingly, yet, the balance itself can assume different ends.
If Balance is:
.1) Every class is Overpowered against 4 classes and Underpowered against the other 3.
Would you consider this balanced?
.2) Every class is exactly balanced and against any other class, equally skilled players often end in a tie.
Would you consider this balanced?
…
It could easily be fixed if they tweaked the unwanted classes a bit or simply gave them some dps group support skills.
Classes pretty much are different from each other, because they are based in different class mechanics. This mechanics although different are balanced between themselves and cannot be boosted to situational encounters. So the way to solve it, imho is by the use of conditional mechanics.
Bosses/Mini Bosses should have/be (could be randomly added when starting of a Explorable mode path):
- Immune to melee damage, +5-10% damage received from ranged attacks;
- Immune to ranged damage, +5-10% damage received from melee attacks;
- Damage halved from Bleed, Confusion and Torment; Double Damage from Burning and Poison;
- Damage halved from Burning and Poison; Double Damage from Bleed, Confusion and Torment;
- Immune to Movement impairing effects;
- Immune to control effects;
- Immunity to all damage except under a specific condition;
You get the picture.
Using this kind of boss and miniboss mechanics, the use of 5xWarriors, maybe isn’t the best DPS combination to end the dungeon!

Season 1 – European Gold League.
Match1:
SFR vs Virzunah Square + Piken Square.
Let’s wait and see in Match7!
“The Season 1 is a failure overall”. Do you agree?*
No.
Any step in competitiveness of the WvW, it’s a good step imho.
Could it be done better? Yes!
A failure? Definitively not!

Anet did not create the disparity, they just allowed people to transfer to other servers. Eventually all serious WvW players migrate to those servers seen as “serious” about WvW.
Why should anyone serious about WvW have to play with people who do not share that mindset?
It creates enormous population imbalances. But it is driven by player choice, and Anet giving the players the freedom to transfer.
There isn’t a particularly good solution to the problem, unless you want to ban server transfers entirely.
This wasn’t actually truth, was it
Let’s tell the modern history of Gw2 Wv3:
Key concept: The whole WvW concept was wrong since the beginning.
Before Gw2 was released, Guilds were massively joining in alliances to pull the most competitive play out of WvW. Huge alliances were formed (even with higher roster than the unknown server capacity, back then). Without intending guilds were actually unbalancing servers with big zergs of players and when the game was released it drove also to huge queues. Some guilds move out from the full servers and with that the first wave of band-wagoners jumped in!
Suddenly, some servers fell from good ranks into some lower tiers (i.g: Gunnar’s Hold), and because ANet didn’t control the flux of server transfers, some servers became incredibly strong, and some became incredibly weak.
Then ANet decided to lock free transfers and release paid ones . Gem server transfers however brought more questions. No1 understood why server transfers gem prices weren’t based on WvW tiers and competitiveness, and rather on the total amount of players. Tier 2 stable servers like SFR were penalized for not being classified as FULL or HIGH creating a mass inflow of players to the server. SFR was a medium capacity server with big competitiveness and then it became monstrous!
Then it was announced the Free transfers to Medium servers and the release of higher population/unbalance rewarding content like Seasons. With this, the last wave of band-wagoners jumped on board trowing their servers deeper into the hole and creating mega-servers with queues to it’s maximum!
TL:DR
- By doing nothing, ANet actually created the disparity!
- By creating poorly designed server transfers, Anet enhanced disparity!
- By making zerg tactics instead of zerg breaking tactics more viable, they enhanced disparity!
Everyone is to blame, but in the end, ANet has the most part of the blame, because they should have predicted this outcome!

Hey people! Do not use your keyboard to turn or for movement! Use your mouse!
If you want to get better at GW2 or at many MMOs with similar interfaces, learn to move with your mouse (or a combination of mouse and keyboard).
I don’t agree this is 100% truth. I’ve seen players using solely keyboard (left hand on normal layout zone and right hand on num-pad zone), and playing extremely well. I agree that dominating mouse for movement will be a better option, rather the keyboard turning and absolutely better than the horrid point/click to move!

Looks like you should stay in pve land. You obviously can’t handle pvp.
Utterly wrong, obviously you can’t read what I’m saying.
It’s the jumping part I can’t stand, and I just want to get it over with so I can get back to the pvp- you might have noted the two thiefs that attacked me died. It’s the combination of my inability to co ordinate jumping added to the oh so brave 2/3/4v1 that makes completing them a complete pain in the kitten . On a good day with no one else in there it will take me around 30 minutes to an hour to complete one.
I’m glad some people derive enjoyment from doing these. I’m also happy for those that spend their time in groups ganking people, if that’s what makes them happy. Doesn’t mean I like it.
As clearly your problem is not related to the PvP side of the JP, the best thing i can say is to try to find help to boost your way up. Check the JP until you find some Mesmers are already in there that can portal you up. It helps a lot. Either that or get lucky and enter when no1 else is in there!
/cheers
I don’t see why not since some stuff like mini packs or dye packs can be tp after opening them.
Why do you believe such feature is needed, specially because you can buy gems with gold and then buy the needed item from gem shop?
I don’t understand why players complain about PvP in PvP areas when they agree to the terms by entering the PvP zone.
I enjoy doing PvP in JP. I don’t actually kill the players, unless they attack me. I simply trow them overboard with control skills (fear) and prevent the jumps (chills and pulls). The in-game bullying is horribly sweet.

Hello hammer,
If you look in the Wiki @ http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Item_nomenclature , you will see that at dual attributes (lower level gear) there is no combination with Power and Tougnhess.
At higher levels there are combinations of Power and Toughness in different type of gear.

Hi can anyone help me with changing the name of a character. My son hates the name that I gave his warrior and wont play anymore. Thanks Patman1823
Do you need help in the process in how to change the name or help to find a name for the character?
Hello everyone,
Gw2 is very rich in combat mechanics. Although one of the game main flaws pushes to higher effectiveness berserker gear and builds, i honestly believe the game should give different challenges, specially in dungeon gameplay/bosses and in world bosses, rather than the hit and hit harder!
One of the game mechanics that i always found extraordinary and that requires cooperation from players is the Combo Field / Combo Finisher. However, It’s a rare sight in PvE to witness the use of combo’s other than the random combos that comes from the 1-10 skill spamming. It’s a forgotten game mechanic that is punished by the lack of combinations from some classes that render them useless. I never understood why this mechanic was stuck into 1-10 skills and couldn’t be enhanced by traits, gear, sigils, runes and consumables.
Another game mechanic that I’ve always found interesting are Boons and Conditions. Boons and conditions always seemed of common use. While the Boons provide an outstanding and yet unrecognized advantage, conditions are limited by it’s system own flaws and seems more of a penalty to those who uses them than an advantage.
Taking these two game mechanics (there are more) into consideration, i can’t understand why the meta is stuck into the old Berserker – “Spank as fast as you can”. Boss fights are now a timed race instead of a real fight. Bosses should provide a challenge! Why not to make them invulnerable to direct damage? Why not make them vulnerable after certain conditions are met? Why not making them a real challenge?
We have so many examples already ingame like:
- Fractal Legendary Imbued Shaman – How conditions are passed into friends if near;
- 2-Mult – Mechanic (“Overload”) – Being vulnerable after a certain condition is met;
- Dredge fractals – How pressure plates and dropping lava can make them vulnerable;
- CoF P1 – How the final boss heals, and needed to be poisoned (or it should xD);
We could have so much more, and yet we are stuck with some old and boring mechanics. We could have combo fields triggering actions, we could have boons to make a defense work. We could make use of environmental weapons to obtain skills to achieve this…
Can we expect a step forward in game mechanics and their work to make it more challenging? What do you think?
PS: This is not a rant about the use of berserker.
