I have both as my Main Classes.
I Like the Mesmer more, because it was my first class made. Excel in PvE and in sPvP. Lacks a bit in WvW.
I like the Necromancer, specially in WvW, but it’s pretty solid in PvE and in sPvP.

Eh, I’ve ran into a couple that wiped my poor thief out so very quickly, but most necros aren’t that hard to kill. Bait the opening burst of condi, clear it, then try and DPS them down.
It’s a matter of perspective. With my Necro, i say most thieves aren’t hard to kill. Most of them don’t even know they are hitting nothing inside well of darkness (Blind)…
Know your enemy’s class flaws and advantages.
“It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.”
- Sun Tzu – The Art of War
Imho, Devon just said a lot of crap.
The fact that a “small” minority do come to the forum to state their discontent with the current path WvW is taking, does not mean at all that the rest of the community don’t agree about it (neither the opposite, for what matters). I for once, am the only one in my guild that voice here in the forum, and i know for sure, they agree that this update was bad for WvW.
Some play the game simply because there are no more valid solutions other than Gw2, and that’s could be a reason to why we may not see a big decrease in the numbers, but the discontent is there.
If it’s a fact that the forums are only used by the minorities and it’s also a fact that they simply don’t care if the numbers show otherwise, then, wtf are we doing here? Why don’t you set a online survey like other games have (ig: AION) to see how the WvW community reacts to this?
It’s a complete mistake to assume that this is a small minority without proofs that is in fact a small minority! Or do they know how everyone thinks?

In the meantime, take advantage of the unstable meta. This is your chance to develop new strategies which your enemy does not know yet. People have been making all sorts of stupid strategic moves, make them pay for it! …
My server is SFR. With these buffs the only stupid strategic moves our opponents ever do, are simply logging in WvW… They get zerged even harder…
Now, I see what you are trying to pull with this, and to be fair, I’ve been pretty supportive and patient toward ANet, but this is immensely ridiculous.
Bloodlust was never billed as a solution to population imbalance. You are the rank 1 server fighting rank 6 and 10, what did you expect?
Population imbalance is still a huge issue in GW2, but blaming it on bloodlust makes no sense.
I didn’t expect to get rid of inbalance once and for all, but i’ve expected small steps into that direction.
Let’s rather work towards a solution instead of increasing the problem, what do you think?

well, you have made one topic already about this, so i’ll put this:
http://dulfy.net/2012/11/17/gw2-ascended-gear-and-infusion-recipes/#3
It’s all there!
Well i made some calculations regarding the difference between Player1 with a 150 added stats battling Player2 with no added stats.
Considerations:
- Power, Vitality, Precision and Tougness = 916 (base stats);
- No added Crit. Damage (means 4% @ lv80);
- a 1000, 2000 and 3000 defense values were taken into consideration for the armor calculations;
Adding 150 to all attributes means (direct and non cond. damage):
- Player1 will deal more damage (Power and Precision)
- Player1 will have more health (Vitality)
- Player1 will receive less damage (Toughness)
Effective Damage is the average damage (with Crit. hits @ Crit. rate included)
My math shown me that:
.1) With 150 points to Power and Precision Player1 will deal 20,4% more Effective Damage, than it would do without any added stats.
.2) With 150 points to Toughness, Player1 will receive less 7,2% Effective Damage with 1000 defense and less 3,7% with 3000 defense.
.3) With 150 points to Vitality, Player1 will have 1500 more health pool, which means ~ 10% increase to a lv80 base health pool (916 vitality).
So, it’s a HUGE difference between having those stats and having none.

Making something that they think their customer wants, and not something the customer actually wants.
Well, acting as the devils lawyer, i can say it’s incredibly hard to discover what players want. While some want fairness, others want to easy mode victory. The team’s ideas is what makes a game’s unique, but…
… in this case we all can see the problem, and i am utterly astonished to see how the team is so stubborn to the point they don’t care about the playerbase opinions.
They don’t listen and they don’t care anymore! And i dare them to issue a solid response about the WvW changes, as no1 can understand WHY. I think we deserve it!
Well, everything that can stack conditions is OP if the target don’t know the importance of Condition Removals! Other than that, Necromancers have a solid condition damage, neither to soft to make opponents stick in the same place, nor to hard for them to die when struck.
Well i can say in WvW i use my necromancer pretty much in the same way the police use tear gas to break out the crowd/blob. If however one opponent stays in the same spot after being hit by all the aoe’s i set (wells, marks and other ones), the chance of him dying is very high!

I would like to see the removal of commanders from PvE. They should only be in WvW and PvP.
The reason I say this, is because the commanders on my server are rude, nasty, and inconsiderate. They are selfish. During the last week of the clockwork chaos, they got information about the new build and what would be coming. Therefore, they went on a farming rampage for champs, and didn’t want to defeat Scarlet. They are still doing it with the random invasions.
Players who needed the win of defeating Scarlet were denied this achievement because the commanders on the field refused to help. A group of us are now trying to deny these commanders their champs they are farming by defeating the Aetherblades before they can get to them. But I feel if you removed their commander tag ability from PvE, this will stop.
Just because they were able to purchase the commander tag, doesn’t make them commanders. This is not how commanders should act towards their fellow players and I’m sure this is not how Anet wants players to behave towards each other.
So Please consider this strongly. Thanks
It’s a person behind the commander rather than the commander status issue.
Therefore, you are basing your opinion on those specific commander actions, so it’s biased.
A commander purpose is to make group activity more coordinated. They cannot please everyone, so it’s casuistic.
Bearing these point in mind i disagree with this suggestion.

Why look backward when you should be looking into the future!!
We should always take the past as a lesson to work in a better future. This applies to the videogames as well!

Myself being in SFR, i absolutely hate this!
- No Fun in owning everything due to Buffs.
- No Fun in owning everything because of the zergs difference.
- No Fun in having everything in the morning and no actual capping and battling.
- No Fun at all… I fail to see ANet’s logics. I really do…
I’ll guess i have to PvE the crap out of the game and start searching for a Mass PvP oriented game. For me this game crossed that barrier.
PS: RIP Quaggans. You were doing more for the WvW than those Ruins of Power ever will.
… the worst blobbing server EU (SFR) has 150 to all stats.
:-D
It’s not the worst… wait for prime time. But i agree with you, we were owning everything without any effort!
Failed to see the point with this Ruins of Power
Migration is a part of the server unbalance. When ANet created the servers they expected (that’s what i assume) that the servers would be equally tied and therefore the servers would fight each others for a spot in the higher tiers!
However… That quite didn’t happened.
Due to the server transfers misdoing a few months back, they made it worst than it was. Without proper rewards for playing in low tiered servers, players were tired when loosing all the time. Three simple solutions came to the players doing WvW. Stay and loose all the time, Stay and don’t play WvW and the final migrate server. For those guilds that came to play exclusively WvW the choice is quite obvious, and still is.
Any WvW related upgrade that focus in enhancing further this difference, will cause migrations happen, causing: 1) Lower tiered server being emptier and higher tiered servers being unplayable (huge queues). Instead of a good solution, actually ANet created a bigger problem to the servers wvw health…
The solution passes by freeing the load of the higher tiered servers, distributing the playerbase for all the servers. Rewards must be enhanced for those playing @ lower tiered servers, while the top tiered server must be equally competitive and rewarding, to drive the lower tiered servers to reach there.
Your solution, Ricardo, is one part of a good solution. But that’s not enough! I believe to even the playerfields, Anet should:
- Join servers into a accordingly to their tiers, making more maps for this purpose (let’s exemplify with EU server list) :
Currently there are 9 tiers. (T1 to T9) making this 27 servers playing @ WvW. Three solutions to make them competitive are:
.1) Merge lower tiered servers. (T1 to T4) Merging the lower tiered servers to make a higher and stronger force. 3 more maps to blast the queue away(Language problem may arise).
.2) Combine weekly servers. (If we have kitten T9) servers combine them with (T9 to T1) respectively! Add three more maps (Between borderlands and EB), and combined servers may play here. Double the points gained in this maps, to the lower tier server.
.3) Force WvW guilds simply to leave the high tiers to lower tiered servers.
Any changes, must come with actual thinking…
- Server transfers gem cost should not be per server population, but instead by server tier. Make transfers free to the Ti7-Ti9 tiers from the Ti1 – Ti3. Increase gem cost to transfer to Ti1-Ti2, by 25%.
- Add rewards. Boost rewards for those playing in lower tiers. Make them want to play! Highly reward the tier passage. Add actual goals.
.Those who rises 1 spot in the list get something
.Those who rises 2 spots in the list get something x 4
.Those who rises 3 spots in the list, gets somehing x 8
- Reward tier winners.
.Those who places 1st in the tier, should be rewarded with [Gold]/[Karma]/[Tier tokens]. Tier tokens could be redeemed for some utilities and even for some past event skins.
This IMO how to avoid migrations and the infernal queues.

I got nothing against GvG, but at the same time if they put in some sort of spvp style gvg arena wouldn’t that take a lot of players out of WvW? That would make WvW worse for a lot of players.
Lets not try to derail this thread. This has very little, if anything at all, to do with GvG.
Meanwhile half his video is ranting that WvW isn’t GvG.
I stopped listening after I noticed that… The video summation: “im mad there is no gvg and here are my leaks that tell me what i already know” umm congratz??? I’m all for GvG but spamming twitch channels and calling people out is not how to get something implemented.
Not to mention, he probably screwed over A LOT of people with those leaks. WAY TO GO!
Although he didn’t act correctly on breaking his NDA, the brought up some critical questions. A lot of the WvW community take him and his guild as a example on how a competitive WvW should be. That’s why this subject is now taking enormous proportions…
hum… to the sake of this thread i’ll say first, but it hurts my heart saying so…
Your dad bought you a brand new car, and it was so shiny everyone wanted to ride on it. Then all of a sudden a friend smashed it into a wall, FUBAR to the highest degree…
Those who wanted to ride it, now feels unease with it.
You paint the car so it can be shiny with it, to make everyone believe it’s as good as it was in the beginning.
.1) would you fix all of the car?
.2) would you buy a brand new car?
Well… this is how I see your question…
Well, look at the bright side – more guilds may join WvW now that the everyone will know how to break the WvW queues, pushing solo queueing pugs out.
I find it amazing that we can actually break something that’s already broken. Its not even kicking a dead horse anymore, its a dead horse kicking itself!
That will certainly get hotfixed, but the fact still remain.
WvW is broken. ANet dn’t want to hear the complaints of the community, specially the suggestions to improve it.
Almost all the WvW communities that came into here to play WvW are gone. Some have given up on WvW (and on PvP at all). Most of the actual WvW guilds are a gathering of players from those communities that still wants to WvW for the same old objectives.
Maybe in sep.17th we can rejoice as we can win some golden dolyaks if we get 1st place … /sarcasm

Return gold from TP = [ 100% – 5% – 10%] x (Listing Price),
where the 5% is the listing fee -> (you pay upfront when you place the item, regardless if you sell the item or not)
and 10% is the sales fee -> (you only pay after the sale and it’s deducted in the end).

Stealth ain’t that powerful if you know what to do! It’s rather annoying…
It’s annoying to face one if it’s constantly stealth, hit, stealth, hit.
It’s annoying when they train mobs into you and then stealths.
It’s simply annoying…
But i love how stupid thieves rely on Stealth and forget everything else…
- Blind AoE, block and counter effects, retaliation, confusion and torment… lol..
I could say a good amount of thieves dies from their own stupidity…

Solving population issues?
Easy:
1) – Merge Servers;
2) – Add more 2-3 maps for WvW (same or different player limit);

KOK,
I don’t say i got the perfect solution, but it’s a pretty good start point. Those example were examples on how outnumbered can have some buffs and at the same time, don’t be an advantage to the players.
Giving +x% to guards/lords/guards/structures and receiving -y% damage from lords and guards and getting more/faster supplies are ways of delaying the opposing sides and therefor gaining extra advantages.
Indeed we can say 1 – 10 in the battlefield is still a disadvantage, but no buff increase should be handed down to players.
By this method outnumbered players:
- Can take down towers faster (even the nearest tower to border spawn), due to having more supplies and doing more damage;
- Can spend more time defending cause the walls/gates endure more.
- Spend less money cause the upgrades cost less.
- Get help from guards (better atk and defense).
Obviously a big zerg will get their way, but it’s still a valid point!

why we wont see a useful outnumbered buff:
scenario — player enters map where his server has outnumbered. server loses outnumbered. other players harass him to leave so server can be stronger.
Correct. The idea behind the buff is to incentivize you to show up even if you are outnumbered by pulling out some of the disincentive for losing a lot, but if we put anything too good on it, it will cause serious problems between players. We don’t want it to be something that people fight over, harass each other over, or generally cause a worse play experience because someone takes away the buff because it is our goal for the maps to be full and for no one to have the buff.
20% magic find
33% experience
10% world experience
No armor damage on death.
This is no incentive at all.
How many players go to the WvW to farm, to have more experience when outnumbered? Going outnumbered, players are simply food for cannons, and actually prefer to move to other borders/out of wvw due to this fact.
Outnumbered should be a tool for regulating and minimizing the difference. The way it is now do quite the opposite.
My suggestion, create a scale of outnumbered:
Borderline Outnumbered- as it is now
Lightly Outnumbered – Previous, cost to upgrade – 20%, + 5 supplies carried;
Outnumbered – Previous , wall /gate received damage -20%;
Heavily Outnumbered – Previous, Dolyaks damage received -10%, Able to pick supplies @ Border’s/Eternal spawn zone.
Insanely Outunumbered – Previous, Guards/Lords damage received – 10% and damage dealt +10%.
This way it will not provide players for an unwealthy advantages (roamers and zergs), and it will boos the defensive capabilities of the zone until more players arrive. Less players can defend for more time (more supplies, harder doors and wall, tougher guards and dolyaks).
What do you think? Would this be bad for the purpose of harassment?
(edited by LHound.8964)
I can’t see why…
Can’t you take other chars to high level fractals?
You can, but you won’t get the rewards from levels that are higher than your personal reward level, if your alt happens to be under reward level 10 for example, no matter how high levels you go to, you wont get pristine relics nor fractal skins.
That is the problem for people with lots of alts, you can’t really go in to a fractal without feeling that you are missing rewards by not playing with your main character (or whoever has the highest reward level).
I want to play with my elementalist, but its only on level 1, while my mesmer is 26 (meaning i have a chance to get fractal skin and 2 pristine relics on mesmer, but i wont get anything with my elementalist)
That’s the choice and process of leveling:
- I chose my Necromancer as my fractals higher character. However i want to use my Mesmer, so i need to level it too. My choice at first now becomes a task to level my second and by doing it i miss the top rewards.
In the same way is the 1-80 leveling process. If i leveled one first, and then need to level my 2nd one, i’ll be missing the lv80 loot for my first one.
hum… there are some scenarios that it could be done.
A chain of events that rewards some parts of “something” and doing them all could reward 4/4 to forge them into tokens. Why not? But probably ain’t going to happen, although DE needs revamping other than forced Karma…
I can’t see why…
Can’t you take other chars to high level fractals?
Every post from Jonathan and other devs almost seem like a cry of frustration to me.
Indeed, and Cry of Frustration gives stacks of confusion, which seems the status you are in! /jk
Now really, what basis do you rely your conclusions that the company is experiencing sustainabily instead of growth? With Gigantic gaming companies behind ANet, shaping the business model, do you honestly believe that the actual business model is bad?
“What growth rate they want for Gw2?” This is the real question and the one nor you nor me have the answer to. For you it seems slow and dull, for them it may be perfect this way.
/cheers
Being a Charr is more a state of mind than other thing. Are they evil? Maybe some and no more than other’s races are … We can’t point them the finger for the pasts bad choices. In what regards Gw2 Lore, if it wasn’t for the Charrs, the world was doomed. Charrs and Asuras have been the most useful races in the war. Charrs with their machines and Auras with their techological thingies (Portals and such). Sylvari are in the dream (cut the drugs pls), Norns are speaking with animals (psychiatric treatment needed), Humans are …. humans (doing nothing at all).
Now, instead of telling how other races suck (thou being a racist opinion regarding other ones), i’ll tell why i chose my Charr.
Advantages:
- I absolutely loved the running on 4 legs. Brought to me a breath of fresh air, in what uses to be the standard MMO Gaming movement.
- I love the personality. Charr’s don’t give a crap about others feelings and judgements.
- The home city to me is by far the best (being the grove second).
- Love the skills phrases on “Boons” and on specific conditions (“Charr needs no gods”).
- Love how emotes are in Charrs. (Try /surprised and /threaten, /sleep, etc…)
-
Flaws:
- Clipping issues. I hate my staff going trough my hand/paw
- Lack of good looking armors. (hint: Branded charr’s looks good)
Charr. Or you hate them, or you love them!
/cheers
Why we don’t like a race thread? A slightly racist thread, ain’t it?
Charrs are awesome with lousy gear design!
Awesome lore, awesome philosophy, excelent quotes…:
During the Ellen/Evon event cutscene:
Captain Ellen Kiel: If neither of us gets this trade agreement, it’ll be all your fault.
Captain Evon Gnashblade: My fault? You’re a mouse fart who thinks she’s a hurricane. Please.
Captain Ellen Kiel: Oh yeah? No more being nice. You’re going down, Gnashblade.
Captain Evon Gnashblade: (chuckle) Just stand aside, Ellen, so you don’t get your feelings hurt

I remember the early times in CoF P1, we actually had to use [Poison] in the boss to prevent it from heavy healing (due to our lack of dps), or we could be there hours and still couldn’t kill him.
Why the game isn’t designed to use game mechanics?
Same old : [Hit, Hit, Dodge, Hit Hit, Dodge, Rez player, Hit, repeat]/cheers
Because if a zerk team needs to poison a boss so that their ream damage is higher than the boss healing speed, no other stat composition in the game would be able to kill it.
That’s the actual problem.
Why can’t certain bosses be susceptible to some conditions?
example:
A golem specific(reduce Physical Damage by 80%, Burning 30% more effective) – Obvious as golems are supposedly be hard as rock and not as paper.
A Water boss specific (Attack speed reduced by 40%, No damage from Burning, 20% more Bleed Damage) – No Burn Underwater… pretty obvious. Swinging weapons underwater is slower than in the air.
Why certain conditions can’t behave different on certain bosses?
Poison on Nightmare/Risen could actually heal them.
/cheers
Definitively one of the worst mechanics in-game and yet unaddressed. I would also like to know what is being done in this matter.
You don’t get trait points with them. They unlock the trait point tree so you can use the ones you have. Once you have unlocked the whole tree, they are useless to you. Resetting traits is done by paying a fee to the trainer.
^This
Training books are used to unlock the trait tree.
First book -few silvers- (lv11) will unlock trait lines till 10 (Adept Traits):
Second book -1g- (lv40) will unlock trait lines till 20 (Master Traits);
Third and last book -2g- (lv60) will unlock trait lines till 30 (GrandMaster Traits).
Using a book will reset the previously chosen traits, so have to put them again! Also you must buy them in order to use the last one.

FWIW, graphics quality and latency to the servers will make a massive different to loading times also. Lower the detail, and port to a 0 population waypoint and you will see a very fast load.
^This
People often points the loading speed only to the type of drive they have, and that’s not true. In fact, the loading speed is a combination of several aspects, directly or indirectly related to the physical machine.
While for the purpose of this test simply testing different types of drives with the same machine and with the same network, proves (as known), loading times are smaller in a SDD drive, we can’t compare however loading times in different rigs, as there are so many parameters that influences it, as i previously said.
Influencing the loading times we have:
- Server load;
- Network quality (Latency, Speed and Package loss %);
- Distance to server;
- Processors quality (CPU and GPU). Different processor architectures behaves differently in loading behavior;
- Rendering Load (As Biofrog stated, a lower setting will render faster as a full detail rendering);
- and so much more…/cheers
You are right on all aspects of this but really having little more than double the load times with a HDD you can safely say that the time saved is mainly due to the solid state drive. I tried this test as well with my cpu at stock speeds vs oc speeds which only made like 1-2 sec difference. Im not the best over oc’er im pretty amateur so maybe i can squeeze more speed out.
Server load, network quality and stuff like that the average person cant really do anything about it but upgrading to a solid state drive is more of an easy task for a lot of gain.
True!
I was referring to players comparing loading times with SSD’s, which honestly can’t be of any valid conclusion.
Regarding your test and your data, it’s true! SSD’s are faster than HDD’s, and it highly influences the time. Making this change is a must for every gamer.

Not sure what this thread is about but to be fair, Colin does look like the kind of guy who doesn’t keep his promises and will turn back on his word without hesitation (no sarcasm).
Get real… There is a big difference from theoretical game design and actual practical game design! Managing a business needs sometimes to go against the vision, as consequences can more problematic if it didn’t.
Vertical progression is necessary if the game hits a stationary state. If the vertical progression was huge, i would agree that it went overboard against the GW2 guidelines. But it isn’t. Some players already have ascended weapons, meaning the progression variation is actually irrelevant.
So, making variations to the original intended game design aren’t bad as long as the variations aren’t big and they cause a positive change within the game’s environment!

hmmmm weird. and i thought people were asking for harder things. more challenging things.
I believe there is a confusion. People don’t want it harder. They want it to be challenging.
- If it’s hard and not challenging then it’s boring as hell! (ig: Old aquatic fractal boss)
- If i’ts easy and not challenging then it’s depressing content! (ig: Some world bosses)
- If it’s easy and challenging, people will want it more hard (ig: SAB v1)
- If it’s hard and challenging, people will rage (ig: Liadri and T4 Evon/Kiel trials)
So the conclusion is that pleasing everyone is impossible. However imo making content between (Normal difficulty and challenging) would be the best approach to the majority of the game’s population…
Let’s hope for more content in that direction!

Previously ~10g for 10 levels, now >200g.
… no problem whatsoever.
Crafting has no problem whatsoever. It’s still 10 level per 0-max. The fact that the cost has risen don’t mean that the crafting has failed. The mechanic is still the same!
So your choice is:
- Spend a lot of gold for that 3 extra levels from 400 – 500;
- Don’t spend that amount of gold;
As i said, crafting is perfectly fine! Do it at your expenses if you want, instead of ranting over a perfectly working mechanic!

Previously → 0-Max → 10 levels of XP

Mesmer can be a good Ranged DPS! With GS and Phantasms build!

if you’re going for incinerator wouldnt it be wiser to go with daggers since you need spark?
He’s reasoning is to try the GreatSwords (double the change as there are 2 precursors) and then sell one to buy spark and still make some profit.
As for tips on precursors:
- Mystic Toilet Warning : Don’t be angry if you fail miserably!
- Pray and hope to get lucky!
