I did not ignore your post.
You simply didn’t add all the parameters, like the critical chance.
Therefore i concluded your math didn’t quite answered OP’s question, as Critical chance highly influences the damage.
/cheers
Considering the following formula with your data:
Being :
ED → Effective Damage – Statistical Effective Damage you will deal.
P → Power – Attribute
Ch → Critical Chance (Chance to land a critical hit, on %)
Cd → Critical Damage (Critical hit damage increment, on %)
K → Constant → dependent on opponent Armor, Skill multiplier and Weapon used.
The Effective damage formula is:
ED = K * P * [Ch * (150+Cd)/100 + (100-Ch)] / 100
Being ED1 the damage inflicted with P=2251, Ch=44% and Cd=112%,
and Being ED2 the damage inflicted with P=2133, Ch=47% and Cd=115%;
ED1 = 1,0181 x ED2.
The first setup statistically will deal more damage. Not much though.
Hope it helps. /cheers
ANet:
Hello everyone.
Thank you for voicing your concerns with the flute.
Again, we apologize for your struggles with this instrument after the latest build. I would like to reconfirm that it was never our intention to negatively impact songs you’ve been previously able to play or with new performances. The scenarios described above regarding extreme difficulty playing the same note back-to-back were not reproducible in-house or reported by play testers, even those with musical talent playing popular songs discussed in many other threads.
That said, there will be a fix for the problem, one that reverts functionality to the way it was before. Additionally, by popular request, the ability to stop the currently playing note will be moved to the ‘0’ key. This fix is currently targeted for release with the next Living World update. Thank you for your patience as we address your concerns.
I’d like to add that we are committed to providing a fun experience with each of the instruments and are always open to healthy, constructive feedback.
“How is eveything?”
Peachy.
More content, same game mechanics, way less ´bots.

Well i can say i love my Longbow/Banners Support Warrior
Haven’t quite tried anything else, so i can’t be of an assistance here :p
alright i be honest im still a bit confused. i write out what i am trying to figure out.
current build has 3232 atk p 44% crit rate 112% crit dmg
second build would be 3114 atk p 47% crit rate 115% crit dmgso my question is is 3% crit dmg better for my build then roughly 100 power i am losing ?.
Atk power = Power (stat) + Weapon average damage.
Can you provide the current Power from both? Or the weapon you are using? Math can’t be accurate if those values aren’t correctly introduced!
/cheers
No. They were removed some time ago. iirc, shortly after the Flame and Frost living story chapter ended.
Corrected to avoid confusion (underline)
The answer is not that simple, because it depends on the base power and base crit.dmg.(%)
Let’s rearrange the question:
Given base P and base CD%, what power increase is needed to deal the same damage as if there was a 1% increase in CD%?
Power variation = P / (151 + CD%), this assuming the crit. hits (dependent of the Critical Chance).
Example:
If i start with 1000 Power and with 20% crit damage, i would deal the same damage on crit with increasing
1% Crit damage -> 1000 Power and 21% Crit Damage; (1% CD increase)
or increasing
Power -> 1005,8 Power and 20% Crit Damage (power equivalent to 1% CD increase)
in this case 5,8 points in power ~ 1% CD increase.
/cheers
PS: The math was done considering the formula:
Crit damage dealt = (150 + CD%) x P x K, where K is a constant not dependent of power and critical, shown here.

“Intended” is irrelevant. Half the things we do today were not intended. Go through the balance changes and see how many things were changed because people discovered ways to use skills and traits that were originally not intended by the developer? “Not intended” isn’t necessarily bad. Fighting games as you know them today were born from a completely unintended mechanic back in Street Fighter 2 – Combos.
Not all exploits are bad. Some actually are good developments sources as they provide new ideas to create new content. However they don’t stop being exploits. If you are gaining advantage throughout a unintended feature it’s exploiting!
It’s in the game, it’s legal.
Not all things present in a game are legal. As an example, those banned from “taking advantage” of the Snowflake -> Globs Salvaging -> Profit were wrongly banned? By your logic, they shouldn’t have been banned because they were using game own features.
Should they be bypassed? No
Why not? Why shouldn’t you if you can? I’ll only accept objective answers.
GW2 Rules of Conduct clearly states:
You will not exploit any bug in Guild Wars 2 and you will not communicate the existence of any such exploitable bug (bugs that grant the user unnatural or unintended benefits) either directly or through public posting, to any other user of Guild Wars 2.
The nonexistent invisible wall that allows the exploit to occur, it’s a known bug. If they haven’t corrected it already don’t mean it’s less of a bug or that have been declared not a bug.
You by using this known unintended bug, your are automatically taking an unintended benefit from it, going against the GW2 RoC.
So objectively answer your question :
Why not? Why shouldn’t you if you can? I’ll only accept objective answers.
Because it’s illegal!
I wonder why players believes that all the released non-sPvP content is automatically PvE content.
How it was designed is irrelevant.
err…. No it’s not irrelevant.
“An exploit, in video games, is the use of a bug or glitches, rates, hit boxes, or speed, etc. by a player to their advantage in a manner not intended by the game’s designers.” - Wikipedia
Is walking allowed? Yes.
Can you walk on the ledges? Yes.
Are the mobs mandatory? No.
Can they be bypassed? Yes.
Is anyone using third party programs or applications for it? No.= Not an exploit. Smart play.
This example clearly demonstrates the flaw in your logic.
Let’s re-write your example by the Game’s intended design:
Is walking allowed? Yes.
Can you walk on the ledges? Yes.
Should you walk on the ledges? No
Are the mobs mandatory? Yes.
Can they be bypassed? Yes
Should they be bypassed? No
Is anyone using third party programs or applications for it? Irrelevant
So you see, that’s the difference between knowing there is an exploit and actually exploiting.
mm if its stealth + blink or portal
Its not an exploit.
It’s “jump and walk along a ledge to avoid a whole lot of mobs”.
Sounds less like an “exploit” and more like being clever to me.
“Jesus spots” in L4D are exploits. Bypassing optional, slow and unrewarding content is just smart play.
If the ledge was designed to be an optional route to the same place, instead of facing a lot of mobs, that’s smart play. If the ledge was not designed to be an optional route, that’s an exploit…
I don’t think “elitist” means what you think it means.
Almost sounds like you’re blanketing any obnoxious pug you come across as “elitist”. I hope you’re aware that most real elitists are so elitist that they would not even deign to pug with the peasants, so the average kitten you come across on gw2lfg.com likely isn’t one.
I can agree there are degrees in the scale of elitism, but denying a player because he’s unaware of a particular way of doing things (in this case an exploit), it’s in my book of Elitism. It’s as if there was a club door with the sign “L2P our way to enter”!
Running past mobs or running around them is not a bannable offense.
If it was, then all of us who used to “Taxi” to Droknar’s & Rata Sum would have been banned from GW1 and wouldn’t have HOM skins to flaunt right now.
…
It’s rarely ever an exploit, it’s a mini Jumping Puzzle that Anet specifically left un-walled (IE: no invisible wall there, but definitely pathable steps). Not only that but it only “bypasses” mob groups in the same sense that a balanced build can just run straight through them usually. And to add on to that, it’s not even DIFFICULT by jump puzzle standards b/c all the jumps you can actually MAKE while still being “in Combat” (try that in some of the WvW JPs!!) so I take issue with it even being called a real bypass since there’s literally no way to do it without still being exposed to ranged attacks from the mobs and you’re also not going inside any of the geometry either. (unless video proof shows otherwise)Keep in mind… this is the Dredge one we’re talking about.
Anet should have changed it by now b/c it’s obvious that everyone HATES IT.
…especially at higher levels.
“An exploit, in video games, is the use of a bug or glitches, rates, hit boxes, or speed, etc. by a player to their advantage in a manner not intended by the game’s designers.”
Bypassing the dredges gates by jumping it’s an exploit, because you are saving yourselves the trouble of facing them! Similar to the CoF gate bypassing in the early Gw2 start.
Is it annoying? Yes it is. But being the dredge fractal does not excuses the use of exploits!
I always stick to my PoV: “An exploit is an exploit, regardless of the impact it might bring”.
I’m a very casual player these achievement chests just are not fair! I’m still trying to get my 2000 achievement chest and when I do it’s going to be filled with PvP garbage. Not fair I tell you! Not fair!
Not fair? Failed to see your logic.
Ok, lets remove the PvP chest. What did you gained from that?
getting kickd from party cause, i didnt know how to exploit pass dredge. after beating already 2 fractal levels. why does this game allow party kicking like this.
Usually people respond like this “if you trusted them to join their party then you should be aware they can kick you if they want”
but its a easy to counter falasy with “if they trusted you to let you join then you should have no right to kick them or next time don´t let them in”
Print screen and send ANet.
Exploiting is still a bannable offense. Maybe that way the elitist kittens would learn to stop being jerks!
/cheers
Can we not have a slot on our doll for holding 1 companion, instead of having it in our backpack. So we can summon it, that way it isn’t in our bags so we don’t accidently collect it. I want to use a companion, but won’t due to this problem.
I know some people use invisible bags, but this is much easier.
You mean mini’s.
It would be a great addition!
sPvP is boring. I don’t like the capture-and-hold mode. I don’t like the chaos of 8v8 and have no inclination to try to form a team for 5v5. It’s not even about rewards. They could give a free Precursor at some point and it still wouldn’t be worth it to me to play.
I would agree, but i have to say that the last map added is particularly fun on this mode. (5v5 always). But we need more gaming modes! For sure!
Cmon…
They give things for free… End of story! Begging more is plain greed!
I have some questions about the celestial weapons:
1. Are the new celestial weapons that can be crafted overall better stats-wise compared to other weapon types such as berserker, rabid, etc?
2. Has anyone crafted a celestial weapon – if so, does it have a different skin from those previously craftable?
3. I am considering to make an all purpose armor+weapon set for my ele using the celestial weapons and the celestial armor. Is this a good idea for PvE high-level fractals + dungeons?
.1 – They aren’t better, nor worse. They have average stats for those who wants them, for builds that gain advantage from multiple stats, maybe…
.2 – Same skin! [&AgFRqwAA] <— copy and paste in in-game chat for a preview!
3 – Dunno. Stopped at level 15!
/cheers
“Can be equipped:
A Ring of Red Death and a Ring of Red Death (Infused).”
No, you cannot. It’s a player mistake.
However, AFAIK, you can upgrade that ring to infused status. That way you can wear it.
I tried that nope you cant
Last time i checked one ring infused and one non-infused of the same kind could be equipped at the same time. Unless it has changed, it still works!
NEW FEATURES AND CONTENT
GeneralA Player Instrument Volume slider has been added to the Sound Options panel.
Thank you Anet!!!!!!
This is outrageous…
Why can’t players be forced to hear my completely random lovely music?
No, you cannot. It’s a player mistake.
However, AFAIK, you can upgrade that ring to infused status. That way you can wear it.
Ohh so when i put in infused status I can wear it=?
Yes. But only infuse one!
It would be nice to have build profiles and when you accepted the switch to a new build it just charged you the silver. No need to use trainers other than buying your manuals. I would love to have this ability in dungeons and it would even act as a gold sink because I am pretty sure people would swap builds more often.
^this.
We definitively need profiles. Profile expansions could even be sold on the BLTC for gems…
Profile could include but not limited to:
- Traits, gear and skill set.
It’s a major pain to have to change traits just to play in a different manner (and i have 5 sets of armor and weapons) on my Mesmer…
I believe that sPvP started the game very much uncompleted, but it’s becoming very solid. i would like to see more game modes, and it’s good to go.
The only thing that i can agree is that there is a lack of both competitiveness and goals! Other than that it’s pretty good.
And the majority of the complains about the classes being OP clearly shows how misinformed you are about those classes. If some class builds are tougher than others? Yes they are. Diversity provides the unbalance. A lot of the unbalance players are referring, is actually a reflection of their own doing. Both choosing bad class build and not knowing how to play against certain classes.
/cheers
the weekly OS complaint. Anet has really some class, after all the Sky Pirate complaints putting a LS reward in there yet again. Classify it all as you like, it is an achievement in a pvp zone, getting to a chest with pvp rewards. It is pvp. Unfortunate you cannot boost your AP easily, tough luck. The LS meta achievement offers ways to complete for a broad range of playstyles. Is it unfair camping chokepoints? Of cause. Welcome to pvp zones.
Fortunately not everyone thinks like you….a bit of human kindness goes along way. Just because it’s a PvP zone, doesn’t mean people have to forget basic decency. Someone from an opposing server actually helped me find my way near the end of the JP, and for that, I /bow to them.
I used to think like this, until i let one pass. When the second joined, they both zerged me…
To maximize shattering damage i would take on:
Domination – 20 (Mental Torment and Rendering shatter)
Dueling – 20 (Desperate Decoy and Deceptive evasion)
Chaos – 0
Inspiration – 0
Illusions – 30 (Precise Wrack, Compounding Power and Illusionary Persona)
As a shatter Mesmer i can’t really exclude the Rendering shatter. It gives a 8m% daage increase per shatter (you can max to 25% with no problem). With IP you can burst F1 to increase your damage in close combat even without illusions, gaining Might also!
Runes of Strength works very well also!
Even if you don’t have any anymore, like women with mastectomies, those brave people are censored on websites like facebook because a minority can’t stand powerful women. Should the internet, beacon of freedom and liberties, really cater to that kind of sentiment?
Well that would be a never ending discussion. Moral awareness is gained also trough social and cultural imposing. What should be morally unacceptable to ones may not be to others. So there is no actual answer to that question.
I have a problem with some country/religions shoving their insecurities down my throat, especially on the internet which is international by default. As a man, I’ve seen thousands of naked women already. It’s no issue if you don’t make it one.
I share your view, but we don’t have the right to judge those who don’t.
This swimsuit with a yellow duck floater on it… i would buy it for my charr! xD
(edited by LHound.8964)
This is one of those issues where a.net has to cater to american puritans. Most festivals I go to in Belgium or Holland have at least a few naked people walking around. But sure feel free to debate whether or not there’s any legal or ethical issues involved. It’s in your head.
tl’dr: People can be functionally naked and swimwear is one of them. Grow up if you can’t handle that.
That’s what i love about those countries. And becomes so natural, that people don’t stare anymore. But i still wonder if nudity was allowed in this game, if the genitalia were substituted by kittens also as a form of censorship.
Swimsuits aren’t imho problematic, although some country/religions have some issues with female showing their bodies.
Well i’m one of those “If it’s red, it’s dead” folks, unless someone use those specific emotes that grants safe passage (at least from me). – “bow” and “wave”. It’s more fun sending opponents off the ledges than killing them. Just saying
It’s a JP meant for player versus player interaction. As many have said, bring more friends.
Well the mingame is not that hard. This specific opponent is. It seemed it was cheating. Spamming healings, spamming his move, spamming the check.
I did beat him, but was pure luck as many who beat him… more than 30 tries (didn’t count them). The more i tried to find a strategy the faster i lost. Then when i was literally spamming buttons i won…
“And in the forums we are once more. To read the tales of Miya and her sore. But she’ll continue until tending her needs, with her best friend writing her deeds”
How did i went ?
AS a mesmer traited and geared for Scepter + Sword, i say that this is actually a very powerfull combination. However, most of the players don’t actually care about the scepter.
The only scepter issue imho, is the #1 (1.1, 1.2 and 1.3) skill. Completely inutile.
Cool title. When i ran into the wall of text after reading “A few words on Dual W. And Weapons” i lol’d… xD
Now on topic:
The animations on weapons are very poor. With this outstanding art team i don’t know how this happened, but to be honest they deserved a tweek.
/cheers
kitten …
So now i won’t be able to use MF gear, and link berserker gear in CoF P1?
Well, to take away the points would be to take away the rewards chests people have already received, so don’t expect that to happen, especially with the 5K chests being available today.
If the wanted to remove them, they just needed to wait until everyone received the rewards and then do just that!
You know what’s really going to cause people to rage meaninglessly? When they adjust the WvW achievement points to be on par with PvE ones, giving more significant rewards for the time and efforts of WvW players. I’ll bet the rage thread by the few that think the leaderboard matters will dwarf this one and only be matched by the lack of care about a leaderboard by the WvW players who will be appreciating the recognition by ANet.
No problem there. It’s their hardwork in Gw2 that made them get higher rank in the leaderboard! Different type of rage i suppose!
The funny fact is why they enhanced the ap’s when no1 asked for them. What have they seen? How that contradicts what has been said about rewarding gw1 vets, how that mind for those who care about the leaderboard. Their reasoning, that’s the thing i would like an answer from ANet!
The success of Guild Wars 2 can’t be denied. The game innovated on a lot of grounds at a time where MMOs became increasingly stale. It is still in a young phase but if A.net keeps the pace up, this game is bound to be a huge competitor to any other fantasy MMO on the market, and comfortably settle on the second place.
Completely agree with the quoted part!!
MMO industry needed a breath of fresh air, and although GW2 has many flaws, it indeed provided this renewal.
If it will be cloned, if it’s a killer, no1 can say yes or no with absolute certainty. Haters will say NO, Fanboys will say YES. What we can say for sure, is that it is very different than every other thing released on this industry! A pioneer we may add!
No……….
Just start a new character. U’ll have to think a little bit before u do something. Or put a little effort in what u want to have.
You could make that argument about anything. Why don’t we all just pick 1 weapon from the start and can’t change for the whole game?
Geikamir,
In some part i agree with Frostfang. Every decision comes with consequences. Some may be corrected, some may not. Sometimes we have to think very well before we make decisions, and choosing a race/profession is one of those. If we don’t choose accordingly to our liking we can simply create another character! More work? indeed, but it’s caused by the choices we make!
/cheers
I don’t support inspecting at all in the traditional sense…
Although, I could agree on having it, if:
1) It could be ticked on and off (off by default)
and
2) It didn’t show any stat at all! Just name (original/transmutation) and preview option!
/cheers
(edited by LHound.8964)
Mad Rasputin,
You must have misread OP. Problem exists with his Exotic Invader’s Ring, not Armor …
It should have worked, though, weirds
Funny how ANet chooses to reward the players:
For 50/50 they give them the “world”.
For the last month gem buyers, they give them kites.
For the rest of the players… they give them the finger…
/sarcasm
The down state mechanic imho is very good mechanic badly applied!
In the battlefield, it’s ridiculous how a teammate can revive a downed player simply by the push of a button and at the same time not being penalizing for anyone! Over the last months my view has also drastically changed in regard of this matter and i have came with a good applicability over this mechanic.
In a skill related perspective, what is “downed-state” and “reviving”?
Imho, it’s the ultimate healing → Ressurection! Within this point of view how could it be changed to best be applied to battle situations?
Easy → To revive someone, it should be used as a combination of the Healing skill (6) and elite skill (10). Both get on cd as if they were normally used (with a fixed cd). Doing a thing like this, first would create a cause-effect decision in behalf of the player reviving, revive and the team! Without those skills available, it should be impossible to revive an ally!
What do you think?
As a final remark, i honestly like the Downed State mechanic. However the easiness of the players to revive the others is really depressing! Sometimes it required hard work to kill a player and to be revived with no cost… Rage….
If eles could use GS I would be the happiest GW2 gamer in the world.
But they can. With the added bonus of not paying hundreds of gold for the vulcanus…
On Topic:
Mesmer: Love the versatility!
Guardian: Love the resilience!
How do the Thief vs Mesmer fights usually fair?
If both are equally skilled, it’s a pretty kitten pain to watch and may well end up in a draw!
Dynamic Scalling!
Best GW2 feature. Sure it need some tweaks, but it’s awesome!!!
You can put past events anywhere, just need to make them an instance, fractals don’t need to be used as an excuse. If past events were to ever come back, I wouldn’t want them to have any association with fractals or dungeons. I’m sure there are other things we can do to spice up the PvE grind.
While i understand your point of view, creating a feature would require a few things. Fitting the Lore is one of those. How can you set “past” events without disrupting the Lore? Fractals of the mists provides a “Time/Space”. Creating it within it’s Fractals would be a good form.
I don’t like FotM at all, but i have to say i can’t see it fit anywhere else…
I’m talking supply side economics in a very simple form. It’s called widening the base out.
Goloith.
It’s not the same thing having 10 DUST selling for 500g/each as 100 DUST selling for 50g/each. The first is a big load of gold and “forces” players to spend $$ to get gems to get the required gold. The last, is pretty easy to achieve! 50g are peanuts nowadays…
Some past events were extraordinary!
Everyone that played since the beginning probably remember how some events were quite awesome! While the improved Living Story provides the players with new content, it makes the old desired content be nothing more than a happy memory!
So my suggestion is how can we make the old content back? Easy make it available on the Fractals of the Mist! When i first look on the fractals, it kinda looked to me like an unstable portal that somehow messed with Time and Space, making the players cross some sort of a dimension into those places.
So what if we add some bonus rounds (instead of always killing the Jade Maw), like the Halloween themed, the Christmas and some other ? Those were quite amusing, and could even allow in the final chest to receive one token to redeem a skin from those past events!
Example:
- Halloween, with a mini clock tower, with the last boss being a Jade Mad King.
TL;DR: Fractals of the mists, are a good place to make some past events fractals to allow players to remember old content and also getting tokens to redeem for past rewards!
Race changes should be a must IF it was difficult to level up a new character to top, and difficult to get the gear. With the current system i don’t agree on a race change ticket!
