Harvesting mats take time and time is money. So no, it’s not free.

That’s what being discussed in the thread. It isn’t quite that linear…

.1) If you are doing your daily chores and you stomp in a node, it took you no work/time to gather, you just picked it from the ground. No work related cost!
.2) If you move trough the map just to gather, then yes, it has a work-towards-objective cost parameter.

Whatever the cost to gather the said material, it still has the same market value. That is a different thing!

Questions about critical damage

All the lifesteal food also have an internal 1s cooldown which is also noted on the wiki.
That means the lifesteal will happen a lot less frequently than you might expect from a 66% chance.

If there was no cooldown like back in the beginning you would get the lifesteal at around twice every 3 hits. With the cooldown it would take more work to determine and depends things like which weapon you are using.

As for the visuals, see attachement. Left is a normal hit and the right is a critical. I am surprised the wiki didn’t include a similar picture.

Also, in the “Combat” chat tab, you can see the damage differences between crit and non crit strikes.

We are talking about completely 2 different things.

.1 → The cost to get them;
.2 → The value they have;

If we gather materials, they indeed are free because no money was paid for them (if we remove the cost of the gathering tool per unit). However that don’t mean they don’t have a price tag, because they do:
“It cost me nothing to gather a 5 silver per unit material”

Crafting however is a different thing. Crafting an item with gathered materials should be carefully looked. Although the items were free to get, they indeed have a value. Sometimes it’s better to sell the items for gold and then buy the crafted good also from TP, because the individual items are valued more than the crafted good!

My issue is that I was forced into crafting, which I hate. I play to have adventures not craft.

Then I had to grind wealth and mats to make the ascended weapon.

I also had to craft up weapon smithing from scrarch.

I did not have a stockpile of mats or gold.

I also only have One 80 so getting Ori is very slow if impossible given how much you need.

The whole thing, which started kinda fun, has turned into a terrible grind.

If I had started with WSing at 400 and some mats in the bank, it might not be too bad. Which is where I think many people were at.

Don’t go offtopic.

This thread is about the relation between materials and gold, not about their necessity to craft ascended weapons!

Anyway, my point is that it’s futile to try and put a value on everything. And as a poster above me said, it’s all about perspective. If you like to think that crafting an item cost you 1 gold because the materials were worth 1 gold, it’s fine. But if I want to think that it cost me nothing because I had gathered all the materials myself, then it should be fine too. If I never intended to sell my materials (and I don’t do that), how can you tell me it cost that much when it didn’t. Sure I could have made money selling the materials, but the fact is I didn’t.

It’s not futile to set a value to an item. All items that can be sold in TP have a value. This is a fact. However, one might choose not to care about it when playing the game, but the value is still there.

It’s not the same to gather 250 of Orichalcum Ore or 250 units of Copper Ore. Although the work is quite similar, one have a higher value than other and to me it’s not worth spending time and effort to farm 250 units of Copper Ore even if i need them, when i can farm less Orichalcum Ores, sell them @ TP and then buy 250 units of Copper Ore.

I do agree it’s about prespective, but that don’t invalidate the items having indeed a value per unit and work load per unit!

Thanks for the feedback over night and this morning.

Please note i am going to be afk for most of the day but will catch up as frequently as possible.

What i will do is create a thread on the PVE, WvW and PvP forums asking for the community to name 1 area of the said area that they would like to discuss first and then we will start the discussions on Monday.

Overnight there have been a lot of questions as to why we are trying to reconnect. The answer is simple: I want us to get back to a better state of collaborative development as i feel this is in the best interests of everyone. Like i said in the thread we read all posts both positive and negative, we just want the forums to be a more constructive environment for everyone to post in.

My main is a mesmer…

This is one of my first builds and the one i used to Master the Mesmer in sPvP in the beginning:

With this build you should be able to:

- Do a significant damage with Phantasms;
- Have decent survival;
- Spam a lot of clones (from dodging also);
- Do a solid damage from far (Greatsword);
- Forget about shattering. With this mechanic you can master the other parts of the Mesmer, and then you can try to focus on the shattering part!

But you need to:
- Use dodge a lot;
- Understand how the Clone and Phantasm mechanic works;
- Understand how the shattering mechanic works and the different combinations.

I remember in the last days i played AION, there was a “flashy icon” in the screen with some In-Game Surveys about particular subjects. They even add rewards (nothing great obviously) to surveys to rewards players for the time doing them!

1. Whole world is dead and pointless with exclusion of few farming places.
Can be fixed if there is a purpose to drive there. Living story is having the opposite effect (except the scarlet events).
2. World Bosses are broken (because of so many reasons that it’s really hard to sum it all up).
Agree… But a revamp like the one it was made to tequalt is enough to make it. Have them drop tokens for incredible rewards!
3. Whole PvE meta is broken (damage over defense, conditions are useless).
Agree! Easy to fix by adding immunity to types of damage to champs/Bosses
4. Dungeons are dead and pointless with exclusion of few farming places.
That’s what happens when content is handed out almost for free! No point in going there!
5. Living World has no story and it’s more about farming something. And is a really good example of the reason why standard MMO quests are not in this game.
Here i disagree. The Living Story does indeed creates the illusion of time passing by. The World is evolving, but with the evolution, some relevant content should stay as permanent!
6. The game can’t be expanded because it would only spread the community even more and make the world even more dead.
It doesn’t need expansions in the traditional format! -__-
7. Main reason to play PvE now is to farm for AC gear that has no real use (just makes the game even easier).
Don’t know what the heck you are doing… I always find content to do in PvE. My Main character has already 5 full sets of gear! Testing different things is quite refreshing!
8. Or to farm Legendary weapons – waste even more time at doing the same thing over and over again without having fun. Made my Legendary by the end of September. Not even once i had to farm excusively to make it. The materials i got, i was saving and then → bam! Bought the rest!

To sum it all up: all that what this game is after completing personal story is POINTLESS and really feels like a waste of time. The game has no structure or anything that would keep normal people around.

I haven’t made the personal story yet. In neither of my Lv80 characters. What do you consider “Normal people”?

I wanted to say thanks for both some great feedback (community members posting what they like and don’t like) and that it has been useful to see some health debate regarding our interaction with you all.

We don’t listen to negative feedback.
I just wanted to clarify this is not the case at all. Constructive feedback can be both positive or negative feedback. Un-constructive feedback in my opinion is when the post is muddied by overly emotional context such as being rude, disrespectful or making wild assumptions. Therefore please understand that negative criticism about the game is something we value and is core to collaborative development.

So back to the matter at hand. Through reading the posts i think it would be really useful for me to start a thread like ‘name one thing you would like to see improved in Guild Wars 2’ and then start riffing with you all on these subjects matters and try to make a more meaningful connection with you all that way by which we can define a process together for Collaborative Development?

I am also going to ask that we build out more time for team members to post and i will follow up with you all on that.

What do you think, does this sound like a good way to move forward?

That’s a really good idea which raises an interesting point. i am well versed in the game globally but not necessarily in the specifics of certain areas. So here is what i will do, i will post one in general asking for PVE specific feedback and then nominate two other members of staff to do the same in WvW and PvP and we can go from there. Note i am not going to do this over night as i do want to create some guidelines (set by me) for what the team can answer and can’t that way you guys can be frustrated with me rather than a specific developer (-:

If you keep to your word Chris, i will “again” provide constructive feedback and you will certainly have my “/respect”. I wonder however why this kind of approach wasn’t made sooner…

But please remember one thing. Both players and the devs work to make this game better. It’s a shared responsibility that everyone embraces easily for the game they love to play. But in the same way players can’t provide 100% quality feedback (a lot of the feedback would be related to their frustration → “ig: invis. Thief killed me, nerf needed”), developers also make misjudgments and mistakes. Trial and Error is part of human behavior as no1 is perfect.

Acknowledging mistakes and work to correct them, do not make a developer more or less capable! So having a step back to do two steps forward sometimes is the best approach. Don’t let that developer’s pride blind you!

This ^ is probably the only comment in this thread that actually gives A-Net an idea of how to expand the game. The majority just argues if the OP statements are true or false, believable or not.

Galen, i undestand your point, and obviously we can’t expect everyone to be pleased with every choice they make. However, the general development should be made towards the enjoyment of a large chunk of the community instead of a single individual desire.

But, how do we know what the community wants? The lack of a feedback tool to provide the feedback into the development tool, makes this forum the only tool for that purpose.

We cannot say for certain that the problems issued here and the solutions presented represent the overall consensus on those subjects. We can’t know, and neither can the ANet. So why are we the minority? Because we are the only ones that voice the oppinions in the forums?

I agree that some posts are indeed Rude, but so is ANet’s behavior towards the individual player that constitutes the community. It’s a two way road!

I believe its not even designed towards a large chunk but rather in a direction meant to satisfy everyone. Not that there could be the problem, satisfying everyone is obviously not easy.

Again looking at ascended gear there is a lot of bad about it if you look at it from a vertical progression point of view. Why would that be if not because that same bad is necessary so that people who dont care about VP can just ignore it?

We dont but Arenanet do using a combination of things, one being the feedback on the forum but two and perhaps more important depending how they behave in game. Now thats a double edged sword in that often I see people behave the very opposite way of what they say they want. Ascended gear is another good example. A lot of people state they dont want ascended gear but then each time a new piece is released they go farm and dont stop until they acquire it which again sends what message to arenanet?

We aren’t the minority, that’s precisely the thing, there is no minority there is just different groups that like different things. Minority or not no group should be sacrificed because they’re small. design decisions should keep in mind the needs of all groups.

How is Arenanet being rude to anyone? I never saw Arenanet being rude to anyone honestly.

Read some topics in WvW sub-forums:

- We were called “The minority” by ANet staff.
- We have been trolled in-game by a incredibly rude person from ANet staff. An apology was made soon after.
- We are being ignored after months of the same feedback.
- sPvP and WvW is incredibly flawed. A lot of people play those game modes, because they haven’t got another solution. Feedback related to the assiduity is biased.
- You can’t expect to please everyone.
- Personally i don’t care about progression (vertical, horizontal, diagonal, etc…). I care about Bugs, Class Balance, Server Balance and overall competitiveness. If you think they are moving towards satisfying the majority of players, either you don’t read enough the forum, or you’re very naive. People are complaining for months now!

Content Evaluation Tool For Community!

I really wonder how a tool of this sort was/would be used. Think about it. It asked people who were new to the game, a game whose combat mechanics deviated from the MMO norm that those people were accustomed to, to judge content difficulty.

Good thing each account could be separated into “/Age” Parameter. Any good statistic analysis, would take in consideration deviations to it’s mean distribution. Also, the amount of new accounts to older accounts is imho way smaller to affect negatively the outcome!

Maybe one of the biggest problems in your development, is not acknowledging your mistakes and working towards fixing them. It’s a big part of growing, specially when being pioneer. One can’t simply walk on the unknown road and drill every brick wall you get in your way. Sometimes, that brick wall is thicker than you think and it’s best to find another solution! But failure still exists!

But one thing you nailed it right. Or we are willing to accept this or we can move on! The latter is a growing option for me!

Condition damage is a joke.

Actually it does because conditions offer sustained damage and GW2 is all about burst.

Actually it is about the fact that conditions don’t deal enough damage to mobs.

The DPS of a condition build is a lot smaller than the DPS of other builds and that’s the biggest part of the problem.

The other damage sources are working as intended, however condition damage is not working as the players intended, and the reason boils down to PvP balance.

MMOs need to seperate out how skills affect mobs and how skills affect players so that all skills will be viable in all areas of gameplay and developers won’t have to worry about how a change to the PvE side of the skill affects the PvP side.

I agree and the problem is due to the lack of mitigating factors!

While Power can be mitigated by the use of toughness/armor, Conditions cannot. So they are good in sPvP and average to bad in PvE. It’s quite simple! They stack @ 25 and 2 condition sources are ridiculous together.

A party of 5 Berserker Crit.Damagers (ig: Warriors) → Destroy everything in it’s path.
A party of 5 Rabid/Carrion C.Damagers (ig: Necromancers) → Lame!

This mechanic needs a revamp asap!

Instant Trait Reset Item!

There is a way to make the change Traits ingame @ lower price (3,5silver). Therefore being ~4g it’s ok, as having and using this item is a pure commodity.

I would be happier with a “PERMANENT” item (600-1000gems) that would add +1 character bound template (to a maximum of 3):

Base : 1 template (As everyone have now);
+1 BTLC template item: 2 templates;
+1 BLTC template item: maxed @ 3 templates.

This would allow to use several gears for several playing roles for different situations (different dungeons, World PvE “grind” and WvW).

Example. Carebear: " Oh these match ups are boring and stale please change them"
Anet: “Ok!”
Carebear: “These match ups are one sided and terrible, Anet please do something!”

Basically people cry for change, stuff gets changed then people, sometimes the same people, cry about the changes.

I sure as hell wouldn’t listen to any of it…

Server pride? A more pertinent question would be:

Why the kitten do the server transfer fees are related to server capacity instead of the server WvW performance? PvE and sPvP do not matter due to the Guesting Feature. This only affects WvW and badly!!!

The best feedback you can give ANet is to just not log in to WvW, since that is the only feedback they care about.

Exactly what me and my guild have been doing, since the last patch. A lot of players are doing this as well, although in my server (SFR), we have a enough bandwagoners to fill the blanks spaces!

20% markup is only 2% after taxes…

5% posting fee
10% sales fee

20% gives a 5% profit after taxes… at least in my math

I would say it depends on the items. Supply demand have a huge roll on my profit. Just ask yourself what it’s better? To sell 1 piece for 10g profit or to sell 10 pieces for 1g profit? Why?

Are you serious ? grow up please.

Somethime you can’t chose the class you want, when you running with the guild is important to have 2/3 full supporter, a skilled supporter will get very less bags than your “not so helpfull” build

Next time pay attention to guardians/eles/necros, you will se that without them the zerg would just be dead 24/7, and yes it’s not easy to heal/buff the zerg, many people are just there to farm, running around like chikens, never stacking up with commander, ecc, they don’t know how to properly play.

What? guardians, nekros and ele are the best classes for tagging enemies?

guardian – staff
nekro – wells, death shroud, staff
ele – staff

nekros: aoe blind, aoe chill, aoe dps
guardians: aoe heal, retaliation spam
ele: aoe cc and aoe dps

and with all these skills you tag enemies….stop whining about how you cant get loot and wxp

We all very well know that all classes can get loot! If Elementalists AoE Dps they can get loot, if Necro’s AoE Dps they can get loot, if Guardian DPS they can get loot. Basically if you Dps you can get loot. However, supporters don’t DPS as often as others do! They will start by supporting skills and then they care for the DPS! At this point half of the foes are already dead, so it’s logic they receive half of the loot as well…

It’s a known fact in every game that Support classes (in this cases roles), receive less DPS related benefits than others. Therefore your post is completely redundant.

If we take into consideration that a normal run to CoF P1 grants a prize of 1g and a run to AC grants 1.5g per run, having the Tequatl chest giving 5 yellows (~30s / piece), it’s actually good design.

5 yellows and an increased chance on exotics (to make players choose Tequatl instead of any easy mode dungeon) is pretty much adequate!

But, ANet works in mysterious ways, and i would like to see how they will handle after the rush (if like Karka Queen that no1 cares anymore and don’t worth the trouble).

support & offensive are not a binary, you don’t have choose one and exclude the other.

nothing locks you into a “support role”, except perhaps your own choice to ignore the offense that every build is capable of doing. ie: your problem is one of personal play style, not actual game play.

ps: those wells your “support” necro uses can tag just as well as any other pulsing field(ie: very well)

Different builds are suited for different roles. One cannot expect to deal the same amount of damage wearing Cleric Stats or Wearing Berserker stats. There’s always some deficiencies when pursuing a role, creating that gap.

Many times happens to me in a blob, when setting the Well of Blood (healing), Well of Power (Removing Conditions) and Well of Darkness (Giving AoE Blind), the foes are already dead. It’s not a matter of tag or not. It’s a matter of priorities! I prefer to support first and tag seccond! Any decent supporter will!

But one thing i agree! No1 forced us to support. It was our choice to go support!

It’s obvious that both of you don’t play support roles, and you probably don’t even know when you are being supported by other players…

ig: Many don’t know that during intense fights, support Necromancers, set wells to strip conditions from allies and give them boons, strip boons from foes and give them conditions and at the same time heal allies and damage foes with life siphoning traits. A lot of kitten happens without most players realizing. Obviously, Dps is largely affected and Cooldowns are higher!

It’s a known fact that support roles receive less loot than offensive roles! Not a matter of being lazy…

Isn’t refusing to learn a few other languages being a little too selfish? Especially since a lot of French/Spanish/German people speak exactly one language they consider to be a world language just as much as you consider English to be one. In fact, more people speak Spanish or English at home than English. That’s the primary reason why French/Spanish/German servers exist but no Dutch, Polish or Hungarian.

My native language is ~ twice as much spoken than german or french (Portuguese). That don’t mean i should be selfish and close myself in my native language. If i want to interact with the rest of the world, i should take a form to communicate the best i can and to the best understanding. Same principle applies!

Advocate of the devil here. The tool should have a language filter, but at no point should you consider English to be the main language on a multi-language game.

Currently, we have in EU – 14 English Spoken servers, 7 German, 5 French and 1 Spanish. We have more players speaking English (although many aren’t English native) than any other language. And we are not counting the 24 English spoken servers in NA side. So, based on this, we could well assume that English is the main language if a “CROSS-SERVER” tool is released!

Why has superior sharpening stones, Master Maintenance Oil and Master Tuning Crystals been like this: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/43451 (spidy) for so long. It seems people are making them nevertheless its loose of money to make them? Hoow come.

They are not loosing money. They are reducing the cost of the investment.

Although germans are the highest EU population, English in the biggest understandable language currently in game.

EU english servers are home for many non English countries and they are forced to speak it. Some Asian/African countries play in there too, and therefore are forced to speak english.
NA servers are obviously home for many players (south american, asian and african), which are forced to speak english too…

Isn’t writing French/German/Spanish in a multi-cross server tool being a little to selfish? Specially because the majority of these players speak/type very well english.

Admirable effort, but not going to happen!

The game rewards and always did, those who kills more! Those behind the lines spamming heals and removing conditions for the team are extremely needed but they don’t care.

I always played and still do support roles.

My Nectomancer is specced for AoE / Wells Life Drain!
My Warrior, is a perm Regen and Boons, Banner Warrior. (Lot of +BD and HP).
I usually stay on defense and speed up dolyaks with banner speed skills.

^No rewards for me…

Before the buff Guilds in blowout matches had the option of GvG for fair competition….

Although i understand your point, this thread is not about the impact of the stat increase to GvG. It’s about their impact to the overall WvW. Stronger servers will get boosted by this, while weaker servers will be penalized by it.

Please don’t derail this thread.

If you are going to make a personal attack on a post against somebody who supports your position, at least learn how to read.

Your post made an association between GvG and Stat increase (although you covered also the overall WvW problem). As i said previously, although i understand your point, this specific Stat increase problem should not be related any tiny bit towards GvG interaction, and therefore my previous post.

I know it’s a bad for other servers but it’s pretty good so far in my tier lol.

SoR always play full map blob but this patch force them to split out their blob which help BG a lot because we are consisted a lot of small / roaming guilds…..

I personally would love to keep it like this ….. I’m tired of full map blob …

Of course its fine in T1, you have a nearly even match up. The problem with the bloodlust buff is that it makes blow-outs even worse, and makes even small scale skirmishes imbalanced. It’s great that T1 is having fun with it, but that’s 3/24 of the servers.

I understand but i’m curious You think without bloodlust you would have won the match ? I just feel like if you already lose it’s just not gonna make any different anyway due to the numbers

It’s not just a question of “winning” or “losing” with the buff in place.

Before the buff Guilds in blowout matches had the option of GvG for fair competition.

Even leaving GvG out of it a strong Guild could come out and engage in havoc or open field play and know that if they encountered roughly equal numbers in an opposing force they had a good chance in the fight.

Also Roamers or Havoc Groups could go hit Borderlands where they had the Outnumbered Buff knowing that while they would likely die alot they could severely disrupt things without hurting themselves (no armor repairs) or their Server.

But now all that has changed. Roamers caught alone are Stomped and cost their Server 1-3 points. Guilds are going up against opposing forces with +300 to +900 Stats per player advantages (don’t forget it is +50 to ALL Stats per stack).

Before there were still things to fight for, still ways to go out and have fun and feel “successful” regardless of score or PPT in unbalanced matches with unbalanced populations (21/24 Servers in NA though harder to tell in EU).

ANet killed that, and if they don’t react quickly it will kill WvW as well.
