Since HoT is in the jungle maybe raptor, skelk, scale, frog, snake or tiny dinosaurs we have seen during the Beta Test.

Other pets that would be nice also: Griffon, Fox, Racoon, Stag, Doe, Dolphin, Rat, Chicken, Cow, Dolyak, Bull, Rabbit, Llama, Longhorn Ram, Ram, Sheep, Marmox, Moose, Colocal, Bat, Alpine Stalker, Cat, Panda, Crab, Armadillo, Beetle, Crow, Osprey, Rooster, Tropical Bird, Cocatoo, Black dire wolf (garm), Coyote, Rock Dog, Warg, Firefly, Wasp.

And of course the one I really want, the Rainbow Phoenix

Also I think it would be nice if you could choose you pet’s Unique Skill (F2) depending on their family, so it gives you more option on which pet you will use.

They are communicating. At the moment they say: play dp/sb or gtfo.

But seriously, I have no idea why they are introducing a new weapon when they killed everything else for thieves beside dp/sb.

In order to convince the hardcore teef-lovers to pay $50 to have another viable weapon and on-par with d/p .

True story.

And once it’s out and bought they will probably nerf the kitten out of it really fast. True story too!

The damage is good, but I wish they would either increase the speed of the projectile or make it heat seeking as it use to be. Because unless you hit down people or pets, you miss 80% of your shots.

Also Cluster Bomb 1200 like it use to be.

It could be a revenant.

Revenant uses Black and Red theme.
Revenant uses Staff.
Revenant uses blindfolds similar to what we see in the image, although it doesn’t appear to be on the eyes in this picture, it could be a mistake from the artist.

It could be a Thief:
Thief uses Black and Red theme.
Armor looks like the Sneakthief set: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/b/b4/Sneakthief_armor_human_male_front.jpg

On a side note, artwork is used to generate concepts and ideas, but these are often not the final products, so I wouldn’t take this for cash. Same goes for the datamined stuff such as the elementalist sword MH skills. That concept was scratched and replaced with the warhorn.

Here is another concept art which was thought to be for Thief but never happened, but who knows in the future?

When people trash talk the best thing you can do is just reply with “ok” to everything they say. I learned this from a guildmate and it works wonders.

Sounds like a good trick. I’ll try that for when I forget my offline.

Thief Especialization: The Assaulter!

Lady Minuit.3186

Like the others said, it should be power based, but I like the mines planting and more F skills.

Also rifle is typically long range and we don’t need another medium range so it should be 1200.

But at this point the specialization is probably pretty much set in stone. Any suggestions from now on is pretty much pointless, except for more theorizing on future specializations or tweaking.

How to bring a dead guild back to life?

in Players Helping Players

Lady Minuit.3186

Bringing back the dead always comes with a price. A Life for a life. You shall lose yours if you continue on this path.

Careful what you wish for!

Bringing a guild back from the dead is just as hard as creating a new one.

But if you’re willing to go on this difficult journey here is what you have to do, including, but not limited to:

  • Be the Guild leader;
  • If possible recruit some trusted friends to be your Officers and help with the PR.
  • Purge your current guild of the inactive players (1 month + offline);
  • Have a nice website setup for people to apply (enjin.com works well);
  • Explain the goal of your guild and requirements;
  • Advertise on forum and in game;
  • Spam in main towns and help potentials;
  • Do activities to recruit people;
  • Lead Guild Missions to entice people to stay and other activities (lottery, dungeons, WvW raids, pvp tournaments, map exploration, boss fights, training sessions, etc…);
  • Lot of PR and dedication everyday.

Good luck.

Proposal: Essence of Luck (Use All)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lady Minuit.3186

Lady Minuit.3186

This issue has been raised so many times since luck items appeared, we can’t even count the threads anymore.

It’s now in Anets camp, and it’s up to them to do decide if they want to take action or not.

I’m sure they are aware, but it is very low and their priority list.

Just throwing a suggestion our there for Anet though… I see countless of suggestions that makes sense, but obviously they are not important and/or urgent.

Maybe you guys could have a database of suggestions and arrange them by:

  • Importance;
  • Urgency;
  • Feasibility;
  • Estimated time required;
  • Demand.

Then whenever you have time, you can work on some of the smaller suggestions and get them done slowly, and if you choose not too, maybe inform the community so that they stop hoping in vain.

I mean I’m sure you already have something like that, but maybe not quite organized well enough.

It’s just, I see a lot of very small issues that could be solved very quickly and are in high demand, yet are never addressed and there is no official feedback ever.

And that is in my opinion way more important than doing the eternal fine tuning of the duration or x skill and their damage.

My 2 coppers.

I just don’t see how this reveal trap fits with a Dragonhunter? I can’t imagine a dragon stealthing or any big game for that matter.

Thiefhunter would have been a more appropriate name.

Also it’s insulting they would go and implement this for another class, yet fail to fix our traits such as Concealed Defeat and Last Refuge (amongst other things).

If they’re going to do this, they should at least make sure our other traits are fine tuned. Give us a way out or something.

Is there a armor with this stat......?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Valkyrie is widely used with burst thieves in WvW. Usually mixed with some berserker pieces.

It keeps your damage up while upping your HP pool, which is the biggest weakness of a thief.

You can’t go wrong with that.

BUT keep in mind that the upcoming changes to the traits and armor stats might alter your needs gear wise.

If you can, you might want to wait for said changes to go live before investing to much in gear.

Ranger, Elementalist, or Guardian?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Lady Minuit.3186

Lady Minuit.3186

Hello,

Here is a break down in my opinion of the best suited classes for each format to help you decide:

General PvE: Ranger/Elementalist

  • Why: Ranger and elementalists have very good mobility and good DPS. They can solo much of the content by themselves and do map completion efficiently. The ranger especially with their pet allows them to be very independant.
  • Why Not: Guardians do not have good mobility and can’t get around that easily. Their DPS is good but not the best of the 3. However, they have many support skills that can help them solo content.

Dungeons: Elementalist/ Guardian

  • Why: Elementalists and Guardians are a must in dungeons with their vaste array of group support skills. The Elementalist provide with Might and Fury, while the Guardian protects the group from harm. Eles are a sort of squishy but are a great asset to any party. Guardians are always welcome in parties as they greatly increase the party’s chances of survival and success.
  • Why Not: Rangers are generally not well liked in dungeons because of the pet mechanic which can hinder a group greatly. They are also very good soloer, which makes them sometimes bad at working in a team other than with their pets. They have however one of the best DPS if played properly and can bring a lot to a party if traited accordingly.

WvW – Zerg: Guardian/Elementalist

  • Why: Guardians and Elementalist are part of the Zerg meta and are essential in any Zerg fight. Guardians provide the frontline with support skills to keep everyone up, whilst the Elementalists provide support from long range with their water fiels and many cc’s. They can both very well turn the tide of the fight if played properly.
  • Why Not: Rangers are not part of the Zerg meta, but can be used as snipers in the gank team. However, this role can be controversial as it can sometimes upset the Commanders as being not fair play and some Zergs will sometimes refuse to have snipers on their side.

Roaming/PvP: Ranger/Elementalist

  • Why: Rangers and Eles have great mobility and very good resilience, which allow them to be very good at roaming or PvP. They also have a decent amount of DPS and good cc’s. The Ranger have a high HP pool, whilst the Eles have very low HP, but they make up for it with their easy access to boons.
  • Why Not: Guardians have bad mobility and cannot run away from dangers if they get caught, which makes them not as good in some situations. They have to tank it out or kill the enemy before they get killed. They have however easy access to boons and blocks skills which makes them very tank and gives them a lot of survivability. They also have many cc’s which is always useful. They are a good PvP option, but not as good for WvW Roaming.

Other considerations and conclusions

You were looking for a class that is good all around in PvE, PvP and WvW amongst Ranger, Elementalist and Guardian.

You also mentioned you liked Range and Magic.

The Elementalist is a good all around choice for you, but could be limited on the range side of thing, unless you were to use staff all the time, which i would not recommend.

Another choice would be the Guardian. Guardians have magic and are good all around. Moreover, the new Guardian specialization Dragonhunter will give them longbow which is range. You would therefore get Magic and Range, two things you like.

Therefore, even if it isn’t the most obvious choice, I would recommend Guardian for you.

Hope this helps.

newcomer question

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Lady Minuit.3186

Lady Minuit.3186

So you’re looking for a good class for Dungeons and PvP.

For dungeons, there are definitely metas to be respected, and some classes are better at it than others.
As for PvP, most classes have their pros and cons and they can all be really good at it, the only differences is the learning curve.

Here is a short breakdown of these classes for those formats.

Dungeons
Elementalist
Elementalists are generally welcome in parties and are part of the dungeon meta. Their DPS is very high, but what is important is their buff abilities (Might, Fury). On the down side they are the squishiest of all and the stacking of might can be difficult to master. They also have a tendency to attract dungeon aggro so be careful!

Mesmer
The Mesmer doesn’t have as much DPS, but brings the best support a party can wish for and can make a good party even better. On the down side, a good Mesmer must be very knowledgeable of the dungeon and their jobs is really to facilitate and make for a smooth run by enhancing the party’s abilities.

Thief
Thief is part of the dungeon meta and has the most DPS of all classes. They can allow a party to skip parts of the dungeon with their stealth abilities and bring blind to the party for more survivability, but they are very squishy and are difficult to master. They are not always welcome in parties because there aren’t many players that can play thief effectively and you might end up dying a lot.

Necromancer
Necros are very resilient and have good DPS. However they are not really usually part of the dungeon meta and can be disliked because of their fear abilities which break the stacking in a dungeon.

PvP
Mesmer
Mesmers are one of the best PvP classes out there. They are resilient enough and their clones allow them to confuse the enemy before finishing them. They also have access to stealth which makes them even more difficult to catch. The learning curve to play Mesmer is somewhat steep, but to really master it requires work and smart thinking.

Thief
Thieves are very strong in PvP because of their access to stealth and good DPS. However they are difficult to master due to their tendency to be glassy and require more dedication. The stealthing requires also a lot of practice to be really good at it, but it’s definitely easy to get away with a thief due to their mobility and stealth. If played with conditions, they can be devastating as well and very hard to catch. If played properly, they can outshine most classes.

Necromancer
Necromancers are really strong in PvP. Their high HP pool and double health bar helps them survive most encounters. In any case, their fear abilities and conditions alone make them fierce opponents. On the down side they don’t have access to stealth and have limited mobility, but the play style is still relatively easy to learn.

Elementalist
Elementalists are very strong in PvP and can be very resilient with their many boons and cc’s. They also have access to good mobility and good DPS. They are somewhat easy to learn, but requires practice to really master. The attunement switching can also be a bit of a steep learning curve.

Conclusion
Going back to your post you were looking for a good PvP/Dungeon Class.
They’re all pretty good at PvP, and most of them are good at Dungeons, but the best fit for you I think would be Elementalist.
They are widely used in dungeons and are very good at PvP. They are also widely used in all the other formats, which allows you to open up your possibilities. It’s a good class to learn the game and maybe not the easiest, but this could also be your main for a very long time.

Pros
• High DPS
• High Mobility
• Easy access to boons
• Easy access to cc’s
• Great support
• Access to long range
• Access to a large variety of skills at all times (attunements)
• Always in demands

Cons
• Lowest HP of all classes
• Attract aggro
• Cannot swap weapons

Hope this helps.

On a more serious note, here’s my HoT date guess:

Why?

Since they started doing specialization reveal one per week, this takes us at the end of June.
Then maybe they will release right after, or so that’s what I’m hoping for.

There is also gw2 birthday coming up which is a likely date.

In any case, from my experience, it will be ready when it’s ready!

Warrior, Ranger, Guardian...?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Lady Minuit.3186

Lady Minuit.3186

First and foremost I want to hit 80 ASAP so which is the quicker option for that?

The fastest way to level is probably through PvP, because of the Tomes of Knowledge you get. Other options in order of effectiveness include: Crafting (actually very effective, but expensive), Edge of the Mists, Dungeons (swapping at the cutscene), WvW, Map Completion.

All classes can level pretty much at the same speed, but depending on what activity you choose, some classes could be more efficient.

General PvE: Ranger/Warrior
Why: High mobility, strong solo
Why Not: Guardians have bad mobility and their DPS is good but not the best of the 3.

Dungeons: Warrior/Guardian
Why: high in demand and fairly resistant due to their armor class, they can easily jump in any party and improve the odds.
Why Not: Rangers have some good qualities, but are generally hated in dungeons, which makes it difficult to join parties.

Fractal: Ranger/Guardian
Why: The ranger’s range is a very powerful asset in fractal, as well as their high HP pool. The Guardian is always welcome as well because of their support skills and they considerably improve the party’s survivability.
Why Not: Warriors are not a bad option, but it can be harder to play warrior in fractals if you’re going to be melee all the way, but they can definitely bring a lot to a party.

WvW: Guardian/Warrior
Why: both classes are always in demand for zerg parties, especially Guardians, because of the new meta. Warriors are also very much in demand because of their resilience and Banners, but they can also roam very efficiently.
Why Not: although Rangers are very good at sniping and are very resilient, they don’t bring as much to the zerg as the other 2 classes, but they are definitely better suited for roaming than the Guardian.

PvP: Warrior/Ranger
Warriors are very powerful in PvP because of their high HP pool, armor and many cc’s. Rangers are just as powerful too because of their resilience and high HP.
Why Not: Guardians are very strong in PvP, but sometimes their low HP pool can make it a bit harder. Not a bad choice though.

Second, i do everything… Solo, team, pvp, wvw, fractals, dungeons, pve, the whole lot. So which is more ideal in grneral for all? I’m more of a damage player but i do love my control/support also. So i’m not TOO bothered about either.

All around these 3 classes are very resilient and are all good choices for most activities. But given that you like DPS, control and support, you might want to opt for Warrior or Guardian. Since Warrior is better suited for most formats, it would be a likely choice.

They have everything you might want with almost no cons:

  • High Mobility;
  • High DPS;
  • High HP;
  • High Armor;
  • Good support skills;
  • Access to a large range of weapons for different gameplays.

The only thing they don’t have access to is stealth, which the other 2 classes don’t have much of anyway, except Ranger a bit.

FYI I do not main Warrior, Guard or Ranger, but I do have 2 of each, therefore I am very impartial I think. I main Thief.

Hope this helps.

Err, pistol has 1050 range with Ricochet.

Basically, there is always a troll to say something trollish, and it doesn’t change the fact that some of us want 1200 range.

Hopefully anet agrees someday.

But we have a 10,000 range trap…

Don’t forget those catapults either… Well over 1200 range.

It doesn’t count. It’s not a Thief skill.

“Use Staff” (Stolen item) is also 1200 range.

That’s a nice compilation.. we should have a separate thread and have it pinned for future reference…

Hero Points & old characters: breach of trust

Lady Minuit.3186

Before the first trait system overhaul you would get all the traits for free, so all my original characters have all of them.

Then I made a second generation of characters, which did not have all the traits, so I had to spend a lot of AP and Golds to get the traits unclocked.

Now all that money is gone to waste (43g per toon) and I won’t get all my traits back, because I didn’t do the map completion.

Not only this, but even my first generation of characters won’t get all the traits back as it stands now.

Kinda feels unfair?

What should be done is to give to characters created before the change all 465 Hero Points by default, and all newly created characters will have to follow the new rules, which is exactly what they did the first time they did an overhaul of the trait system.

Easy decision in my opinion and will also save us a lot of complaining.

first generation charachters spent more skill points on simply unlocking every skill, than new charachters will spend unlocking all core traits, and skills. Doing skill challenges was substantially faster than the only other method which was leveling, and also could not be shared between charachters.

how did you buy 360 skill points worth of skills per charachter and do no skill challenges?
even by eotm/spvp/champ bags that would take substantially longer than just doing skill challenges.

now, charachters created with the first system, who used skill point scrolls from the second system, they might have gotten full unlocks easy, but thats not in either system you describe.

also, many charachters created before the change have not unlocked every skill and trait, why should they benefit?

I’m not talking about unlocking skills here, but just traits. But yes all my characters have their skills unlocked as well. I did some map exploration, but mostly did leveling through dungeons or WvW and then later on skill point scrolls.

When you first would create characters, you didn’t need to unlock traits, they were given to you when leveling. This was changed only later on.

When this change happened, the previously created character got to keep their traits, but all newly created characters would need to unlock the traits by completing tasks or buying them.

By then I had several stacks of skill point scrolls to unlock (earned through daily dungeons) the traits as well as money.. so that’s how I did it.

Only my first 3 characters did 100% map completion, and only a few others did leveling through map, but I have 8 characters with under 10% map completion.

So.. as I previously said, as it stands, I would lose a lot of my hard work with this going through.

As for why people should benefit even though they haven’t unlocked everything? not sure, but that’s how anet did it in the past so why not do the same thing again?

As for me I know I did the grind so I definitely earned it. If not well that’s fine, but at least I told them how I feel. That’s up to them to decide now.

Either Paragon or Seraph/Seraphim*, i would say.

*due of the multiple pairs of wings

The game already has “Seraph,” and they are specifically the human military. I’m pretty sure the profession won’t be named something with that amount of confusion potential.

I think the wings may just be artistic license, or a blue shading of the current black wings.

Long bow … I’m so torn which one to put on my sylvari guardian. Though Chaos and White Hart are looking best to me right now, there’s a few good ones for her. Opinions? (I don’t have the last two, so it would take major effort to get them).

Wings of Dwayna is my favorite, followed closely by Sovereign. But White Hart is pretty good, too.

I agree with Wings of Dwayna!

Larx! Now I know the truth and I judge you… kidding. I do the same but on a more troubling scale.

A gaming couple with only 1 portal Beta drop

This is actually very similar to when ANet sends out random beta keys through email. It’s the same thing, except instead of having an RNG chance of getting an email, you get an RNG chance of getting a drop.

Maybe they could have done it so that there is a chance to drop it from RNG, but if you farm x amount of crests you could also buy one from the vendor.

This way the hard working people still have a chance to get a pass.

Something to think about for next time.

I have 16 characters, so 2 of each class with 2 more characters planned for the Revenant.

Reasons include:

  • Diversity of builds without having to change gear or traits so I can just jump on. I usually have 1 set up for PvE and 1 for WvW/PvP.
  • I wanted to have at least 1 character for every armor type for every race (heavy, medium, light).
  • I wanted more human toons to look pretty and play Barbie.
  • Hi, my name is… none of your business, and I’m an altoholic.

That is unfortunate.

I was lucky as I farmed for mine for about a day and finally dropped 1.
Then the next day I took my partner’s account and farmed all day and dropped 1 for him.

I’m glad I was able to do this, but knowing that this was RNG based, I was ready to accept I wasn’t going to get one for me, or even for my partner.

If I were in your situation, I would probably share with my partner my account and take turns and then when the expansion would have got out, we would have been able to enjoy it together in the end either way.

Who knows maybe you can still drop another one.. I hope you do.

Good luck!

New Improvisation trait

in Thief

Posted by: Lady Minuit.3186

Lady Minuit.3186

I agree. I also think steal is bad design anyway. It’s useful but they could have done it so you don’t have to ditch your stolen abilities to reuse steal.

It’s basically the eternal conflict of should I save this ability for when I’ll need it or ditch it now in case I need my steal.

Now if you take improvisation you’ll have to use or waste 2 stolen abilities before you can use your step again.

Why couldn’t we just store them in F2, F3, F4 slots and keep our F1 free to steal/step.

And now they want to weaken abilities because of a GM trait we might or might not use?

I don’t think that’s the way to go.

How will p/p turn out?

in Thief

CS offers very little to P/P. Ankle Shot is nice only because of cripple but as far as damage, DA’s Exposed Weakness already gives that bonus as a minor trait.

Ankle shot actually gives you also 10% damage increase.
They merged Pistol Mastery and Ankle Shot in 1, so for a DPS build with P/P, you should probably roll with it in the future.

Rework "Last Refuge" minor trait

in Thief

Posted by: Lady Minuit.3186

Lady Minuit.3186

What about Last Refuge replaces your Steal ability with Blinding Tuft (skill you get from stealing from thieves), which allow you to use it at the opportune time, plus it would keep the spirit of the trait.

Replacing the steal ability with Blinding Tuft could also work. Though in a way that disables Steal – like you could disengage and dip by Stealing to/from a different further target. Plus what happens if you already have a stolen bundle (maybe saving it)?

Yea that could mean you lose your current stolen ability.

OR, it could stack over it, similar to how the new improvisation will work where you get to use stolen items twice, which mean they have the means to do it.

OR better, the steal ability could always be available, and the items you steal get queued in F2, F3, F4 slots, ready for you to use, or not.

You wouldn’t be forced to use them because you want to use your step from your steal.

It would also solve that other issue and make our core mechanic much better.

I think they are going to rework PP to be either full power or full condi, and then make rifle whatever PP isn’t.

Let’s hope for that (and for 1200).

I struggle to see why Ricochet has been moved to a Grandmaster trait. Hasn’t there been enough rumbling about P/P being week and now to take one of the traits we can get to help it and moving it to GM level seems crazy. It isn’t even being buffed, just moved up and in a place where you have to choose between it and IP which it did go well with.

I’m not too excited for the future of P/P. Maybe conditions will be improved, but in general open world play it is worthless today.

I suggested to increase the bonus range from Ricochet to 300 to make up for it but that didn’t seem popular.

What about add something in the trait line which makes you take less damage from crippled foes? Maybe to Ricochet or Ankle Shot.

Opinions on P/P and the trait Ricochet

in Thief

Posted by: Lady Minuit.3186

Lady Minuit.3186

Ricochet already bounces far enough…so, unfortunately, I have to say no.

It might bounce, but your first bullet is still at the set range and won’t hit unless you respect that range, and then If it hits it will bounce if there are other targets nearby.

You can compare this trait to Mesmer GS Mirror Blade, which has 1200 by default and bounces (although this is not an auto attack, it has very short cd). You may also trait to have additional bounces.

Therefore, given that there is something similar in the game already, I don’t feel like the bounce effect is a good enough reason to say no, but there could be other reasons of course.

Opinions on P/P and the trait Ricochet

in Thief

Posted by: Lady Minuit.3186

Lady Minuit.3186

In light of the upcoming changes to the traits I wanted to see people’s opinon on P/P and the trait Ricochet.

I think I always wanted Thief to get a 1200 range weapon like the other classes, and I still hope we will get a new weapon with that much range for our new Specialization, but if that’s not the case, maybe Ricochet has the potential to take us there and maybe it could give us a viable build for P/P.

So, I suggest to increase the bonus range to 300 instead of 150.

Ricochet:
Pistols shots have 50% chance to bounce to up to 3 additional targets. Pistol range is increase by 300.

Please discuss, thanks!

Remove Concealed Defeat

in Thief

Posted by: Lady Minuit.3186

Lady Minuit.3186

I agree this trait was always odd and not appealing. Now with the 20% deception cd reduction it’s a hard choice. Do I risk reveal my position for the bonus I want?

Would be good in PvE, but not so much in WvW or PvP.

I would recommend them to change the Smoke Screen for another effect, such as Blinding Powder.

Concealed Defeat:
Release a Blinding Powder when downed. Deception abilities recharge 20% faster.

Upcoming changes to Thief - Cloaked in Shadow

in Thief

Posted by: Lady Minuit.3186

Lady Minuit.3186

It also important to remember that resilience of shadow is pure defense. There no attack going on when you are hid. It akin to a person having protection up with difference being you can keep attacking with protection. Why is 50 percent less damage taken as one can NOT attack OP and 33 percent less as one does attack not?

The might on stealth trait is GONE and that used to be a pretty decent trait for might generation on its own. ROS is not that OP a replacement.

I agree with you, and that is why I would prefer to keep RoS as a GM minor trait too, but of course we have to look at all possibilities.

I think I like my previous iteration of the trait line:

  • Merge Cloaked in Shadow with Shadow Protector
  • Bring back Hidden Assassin as major GM trait.

Et voilà, x/D is saved.
