why no duel?

in PvP

Lambent.6375

I honestly just do not get it, why are people so afraid of Dueling everywhere? What is so scary about it? It can not be the “spams of dueling” that does not happen in any other game, and even if a person asks you for a match, it wont be much different than a random person asking for a party or squad invite

And why differentiating PvE and PvP so heavily? Even if people did PvP, and you hate it, you really would not have to participate, it is basically like forcing another person not to have fun because you do not like that game mode?

They seem to think they are going to be forced into duels and bullied or something.

Back when they added dueling in Dark Age of Camelot years ago, initially people were excited and made large gatherings dueling each other, eventually people got tired of it and it just became something people did when they were waiting around bored.

I think GreyWolf is probably right in that the reason this is blocked is due to copyright..

Even if that’s not the case, names close to racial slurs are blocked in a lot of games/sites in general because people will often use them as bypasses for what they really want to say/infer.

This question has been posted regularly for years, and the answer seems pretty conclusively “no” at this point.

Outfits are your friends.

Pretty much all outfits since Crystal Arbiter has had buttcapes except for 1 or 2 that has no buttcape on a specific race/gender.

I’m just going to assume designing things with no buttcapes is too much work for them now, so they just throw buttcapes on everything, because many people clearly don’t like them.

People who go to maps to gather don’t participate in the maps. You end up with lots of bodies but no more event participation; possibly less since the maps fills and people actually interested in doing things on the map can’t get in.

We do, depending on the map and event.

Are PoF maps going to be mazes like Hot maps?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

In vanilla gw2, going from point a to point b in a map was a simple matter with some exceptions.

In Hot, maps are arduous to navigate, well maybe not to some, but to me they were.

Will PoF be following a similar design? I’m already thinking they will due to the explanation of mounts.

[Suggestion] Cash only shop

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lambent.6375

Let me give you a reason why Anet won’t do that:

1600 gems = $20

One pair of wings costs 700 gems.

700 gems = $8.75

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t pay $8.75 for one pair of silly wings. Having gems in the place of actual money eliminates the feeling that, “Oh I’m spending a crapton of money just for this one little thing”. Spending 700 gems instead of $8.75 suddenly feels like I’m being less ripped-off. It’s a psychological phenomenon that quite a few businesses have figured out, by the looks of things. A lot of people won’t take the time out of their day to do some simple math and find out that they’re actually spending a ton of money on single items. All things considered, the items in the gemstore still aren’t nearly as expensive as the items in the WoW-shop.

Yes, the rewards in the game are very good at this point in time. However, it takes a lot of time to accrue enough gold to buy something simple on the gemstore. It generally takes me 4-10 AB meta-events before I am able to buy something simple from the gemstore. True, others have a lot more time than I do, but a lot of people don’t and so they decide to simply buy gems.

I think it would be something like a tier system.

You would have green Emeralds, then you would have regular Blue gems.

Emeralds can buy anything in the gem store, but can only be obtained by buying them with cash.

Gems will be the same as usual.

Some items in the gem store will only take Emeralds. Stuff like foot step effects, and auras.

Just saying, will never happen because plenty of people would raise pitch forks.

This Game Is Too Easy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lambent.6375

Lambent.6375

It’s funny that people complain that this game is easy…

Coming from the WoW world where everything is handed to you on a silver platter, this game is downright hard by MMO standards…

Wait what? Please explain because I’m confused. Because as far as my experience playing MMOs in the past 15 plus years starting with RS and current MMOs with the exception of maybe WoW. GW2 is clearly the absolute most casual and easy mode MMO on the market now. Hey you don’t even need skill to get to legendary division in sPvP as you can just spam games till you are there. Fractals are very easy by current dungeon standards. Raids are super simplistic by current and past MMO standards. RvR or WvW in GW2’s case all you need to do is stack a server with players and the blob always wins, alot of other MMOs give small man and medium sized PvP groups tools to beat a mindless skill-less zerg. In GW2’s in WvW players in 75 plus man Omni-blobs roll over all opposition on the map. In other MMOs I’m also currently playing, 2 skilled and geared players can destroy 12 to 15 not so skilled player groups, and 12 or 15 highly skilled players can curbstomp 40 or more not so skilled players. So the MMO I’m currently playing is highly punishing to casual and players that just can’t get it for what ever reasons.

All of this is nothing to feel embarrassed about. It is good that there is a super easy and casual MMO option on the market for players who either, want to take a break from the more serious MMOs, players who don’t have the time, or player that don’t have the mental or physical capability to play more difficult MMOs. This is pretty much the only reason GW2 is still alive atm despite all of it’s flaws.

If GW2 was not a super easy casual MMO with all of the flaws it currently has in it’s game modes today. Barely anyone would even think about this game.

10/10 GW2 awesome game to relax and feel like a God with very little time and effort invested into it.

ANet knew what they was doing on this point and does have a monopoly in this department as of now. They should be praised.

To a lot of people Gw2 is more difficult than past mmo’s because of its action rpg oriented nature. Doesn’t matter whether they can understand an encounter or not if they’re bad at dodging.

Storm Bow shading

Yeah, that would be nice. Post I made about it in another thread also.

I got the storm now last night, and it does have those to pointy spikes at the end.

The thing is they are so translucent, and wispy, you can’t see them in any pictures, or video, and if you have the bow, you have to zoom in on it, and almost place your face to the screen to see them.

This also makes the bow look smaller than it actually is, giving it those short bow vibes.

Melee Pistols

Lambent.6375

We have a handful of ranged melee weapons.
I thought it would be pretty cool to have a class that utilizes all point blank pistol attacks. (point blank as in the pistol barrels will be in physical contact with the victim or a few inches away)

At which point you might as well NOT use pistols and actually use melee weapons? Categorically speaking, bows, rifles, and pistols are ranged weapons without exception. Thieves will blend the pistol’s role, but it’s still primarily a ranged weapon.

Kind of like rangers and revenants might as well use ranged weapons instead of throwing axes and gigantic hammers, and mesmers using greatswords for spell casting.

It may not making logical sense to some, but there is already a precedent for using weapons as they originally weren’t intended for in GW2.

You do realize that there’s such concepts as THROWING AXES? Considering the axes ingame arent 2 handed greataxes, odds are, they’re throwing axes. As for the revs? Have you actually LOOKED at the skill? The revenant hammer is barely any different than the ele’s staff. Why? Because they’re throwing a manifestation of Mist Energy that LOOKS like a hammer. It’s kitten near identical in operation to the mesmer greatsword skill where they “throw” a clone of the greatsword.

Frankly it’s stupid. GW2 isnt a tabletop game where you can use such minutia in that way. TBH, this is hardly any different than calling a fully automatic machine gun a shotgun while ignoring kitten near everything about both weapons.

Yes, I know, that’s why I referred to them as throwing axes in that post. The point that I was trying to make that in Gw2 there are several more logical options than what the fantasy characters currently use.

I can understand people not liking this idea, but I don’t understand people calling something that is actually practiced in some forms irl illogical (yes, there are people who run up directly to people before shooting them), when compared to great swords shooting purple magic beams.

I’m not talking about melee pistols as in them actually using the pistol as a melee weapon, I’m referring to something like this.

2:05 mark. Umm, not this exactly, but close enough

So you mean, you still pull the trigger, but the range is only close combat? Isn’t that just using pistols as they are already, but close up?

No, current pistols can be used at a range of 900, the new “Melee” pistol stills would not be able to use their skills from a range of 900.

Exactly my point. Your suggestion, whilst I understand the image of it, is basically taking away x amount of range, but doing the same thing. You’ve got a pistol that shoots bullets, but you have to run to your opponent. Doesn’t make sense to me that.

There are plenty of reasons someone would run up to use a gun in close range. Think about it, it happens in real life and in fictional world’s pretty frequently.

It makes sense when

- someone wants to shoot someone in a specific spot
- inflict critical damage
- they have bad aim
- punch through defenses

Etc

How is this different from a knife?

- someone wants to shoot stab someone in a specific spot
- inflict critical damage
- they have bad aim
- punch through defenses

A gun is far superior when it comes to these two

- Inflict critical damage
-punch through defenses (especially this one)

Material Acquisition Balance

Lambent.6375

Need to bump up the mid tier leather/cloth supply a bit and make mithril less common and materials will be pretty well balanced.

I think the problem is in the refinement step. The raw materials on their own are useless. But for some reason, it takes 4 Leather for a single square, and only 2 Mithril for an ingot – and the price discrepencies align with that. There is twice as much demand for Thick Leather as Mithril, even when the demand for their finished goods is the same.

Because it use to be so cheap, people would npc it.

That’s whyI think the system is fine as it is now, cloth and leather have value, and it’s not hard to obtain from the tp, so why make unnecessary changes that can mess that all up again?
