Why can't you farm materials?

It only takes a few players out of thousands to all decide, “hey I want to farm insert mob for t6 mats”, at the same time to kitten a farming spot.

Why can't you farm materials?

In every other MMO out there, you can farm to acquire materials to create something, it takes some time, but you can, you have a DECENT drop rate. But in GW2 you can’t, even with high magic find you only get junk and the drop rate of good materials (the T6) are ABYSMAL (to be gentle).

“B-but you have moldy bags!”
Do you mean those bags that have a 0.0000000000000000001% chance of T6 mats and a lot of Thick Leather Section?

Yes, it is a complain, but what i want to know is, why we can’t farm the materials? Why it boils down to farm gold like a madman in dungeons and fractals?

I don’t really know what your talking about. This game follows the same model as all the others; you kill stuff, they drop things and many of those things are mats or stuff you can convert into mats.

You are not playing the same game as everyone else then.

I think he is.. you on the other hand seem to be wanting something similar to .. easywin.

Every MMO I have ever played has the same method of gathering… resource nodes, reward loot, champion bags or trash mob kill loot and all are based on a similar RNG concept.
Farm places are nothing more than spots on a map where certain mobs etc are located that have a chance to drop something you need.. yes a chance. The loot tables get altered a little based on the level of the map/mob etc…. GW2 is no different.

T6 mats are rare mats for a reason high level /rare/specific requirements and as such have a reduced chance to drop them.. nothing new there either. I f they dropped to easy players would soon have nothing to play for .. yes MMO’s have carrots that are dangled on strings but to get the carrot you gotta jump through the hoops and guess what,, as a business its ANET’s job to try and keep you jumping for the carrot for as long as possible in order to retain you in game or tempt you into thinking its time to go buy some gems to convert to gold and buy what your after

That said the only mat I personally think has an issue regarding drop rate is the Giants Eye, but I believe that is due to be fixed by ANET in the future.

Simple fact is if you cant wait then go buy it from the TP

I think what he is saying is in some other MMO’s you can reasonably farm materials directly to make/obtain whatever you’re going for. It’s not easy, but it’s not an impossibly daunting task either.

But in Gw2, for example, if one wanted to make a Gift of Light, directly farming 100 charged loadstones from sparks would be absurd. It would be far easier to just farm gold, and buy 1-3 lodestones or cores a day.

Not saying this should be changed, Gw2 is Gw2, and those other mmos, are those other mmos.

You are correct about understanding aophts, but are missing the point of Bloodstealer’s comments. Every other MMO, in some form or another, does exactly what GW is doing. Whether your hours are whittled away by farming Charged Lodestones or Honey Lemons, you’re going to run into the exact same thing. The exact item and form of it aren’t the same necessarily, but you’re still having the exact same system.

I got it, I just took it that the OP was one of those individuals that like farming/gatherings the materials to make an item on their own for the feel of it, and Bloodstealer’s easywin comment just made me think he was saying OP just wanted things handed to him.

I’ve recently moved my gathering routine from plat and iron to orr nodes.

I usually ignore the mobs in orr when gathering, but then I thought, “wait, aren’t heavy moldy bags selling for 7.5-8s right now?” So I started killing any risen in CS or malchor that got in my face. (get about 7-9 bags a run so far)

My main gathering characters are currently Warrior, Ranger, Guardian, which all use greatsword, so I’m going to make an ascended greatsword for them to share. It’s obvious a sigil of undead slaying will be used for the first slot, but what about the second, Sigil of Force, or Sigil of Air?

I think they may have initially reduced t6 mat farming areas to combat bots or whatever, I don’t know why they did it, just that they did. /shrug.

The nerfing of a handful of former t6 mat farming areas, combined with mega servers, has left things pretty desolate as far as t6 mat farming goes. (there are still some okay areas, but…megaservers)

Also, to me it seems most of the mobs in Dry Top seem to have reduced drop rates compared to some of their counterparts in the older 78+ maps.

There is no need for it for even level 50 fractals, since you can use the crafted infusions to reach the required AR. Therefore it is quite optional.
.

Make up your kitten minds.

Either it’s needed for something or it isn’t. And if it isn’t needed, then there’s no reason for it to give better stats than exotic, much less exist, so the equipment gap may as well be closed.

There is a reason for it to give better stats than exotic.

It’s much harder to obtain, and many people have already invested time and money to obtain it. The gap so small, I wouldn’t even call it a gap (not including highly valued exotic skins)

- new skins for boots and gloves that have that glow

- Intricate single piece armor skins. (torso, legs, etc)

- Black glowing eyes

- new power cores added as semi uncommon drops from black lion chest for new spinal blade back piece colors. (like one that gives off a white glow, purple, glow, dark glow, etc)

Well you first explain how the stats don’t matter at all and then you say they are the only reason to ever to craft ascended items. This contradicts itself.

If the stats are irrelevant now, there is already no reason to craft ascended gear according to your statement.

However I see a lot of players using it.

It appears to me like the stats are indeed very significant, so much, that they justify the massive grind required to get them.

“If the stats are irrelevant now, there is already no reason to craft ascended gear according to your statement.”

This^ There are many threads explaining just how meaningless ascended is. One reddit poster even did the math and showed that wearing ascended while in lower level zones nerfs you because of scaling.

There really is not reason to make the armor unless you’re like me and just have nothing else to work towards.

Finally found it, here is the reddit thread.

Average fps..

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lambent.6375

60+ fps in sparsely populated maps at medium high settings. 15-30 at world bosses depending on size of zerg. Turning off player names usually give me a 5-10 fps boost.

Between 4-7fps for regular game play. I drop down to 1-2fps during fights with big crowds.

How do you manage to do anything with only 4-7 fps? O.o

I can move fine. Things get choppy during big fights and some cut scenes but other than that it’s ok. I do have everything set as low as it can go, so while the game doesn’t look the greatest, I can still play. I’m on an HP laptop same as the OP so upgrades are not an option. Gold Transfer Changes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lambent.6375

Lambent.6375

So why should the .175% of players effected by this be catered to?
(Yes, that is the percentage given by Chris Cleary)
Why should security be reduced in an effort to limit and hamper gold seller activities because a few rich players feel like they are getting punished?
Why should I have to be less protected because I don’t have thousands of gold?

Because it affects more than just the initial people they assumed. I did not hit the gold limit, but I was affected by the change because my guild leader cannot accept my gold submissions.

And why couldn’t those same submissions be placed into the guild bank? Then, they are safe there until such a time as it needs to be removed? Then the guild leader/officers can withdraw the gold and send it to where it’s supposed to go. Or allow the player to withdraw what they were supposed to get?

There are ways around it. Right now people are knee jerking to it because they finally feel the effect. But after a couple of weeks they’ll forget about it, have adapted and moved on.

Maybe they don’t want a shady character in the guild to steal it.

[Suggestion] Vanity items to buy with karma

Lambent.6375

If the item is desirable enough to sell in the gem store, why on EARTH would Anet make it obtainable for Karma? The request might as well be for them to flush some potential revenue down the Mystic Toilet.

Limited time Buff items are a possibility, but much wanted skins will NEVER show up like this. I guess I could see new SETS of weapons and armor being available from Karma vendors in the new HoT maps, but not specialty vanity items.

Wouldn’t it be pretty cool if we could buy items similar to the halo and horns, and buffs that put a visible effect around your body (like the one we had when we were fight scarlet.)

The thing is, imagine you are ArenaNet. You can create cool looking new stuff, and then you have an option:

  • Make it available in game for karma, so people have something interesting to use karma for

Or…

  • Make it available in the Gem Store, so people give you money for it

Which one would ArenaNet choose?

Make the ones from karma merchants soulbound on top of their expiration date, and sale perma account bound ones on the gemstore?

Other than that, you guys acting as if they never release non gemstore skins/items. :p

They could cost something like 15-25k karma and expire after 2 weeks of use, and you then have to buy them again, acting as a karma sink. I’m not suggesting those numbers, I just wrote that to give a better example of what I’m talking about.
