In WvW I literally always target another engi first. I know how much effect a good one can cause, and I know how to kill one better than most of my team-mates. kitten yes I target them first. I think its also a “i’m a better engi” haha
If you need something a bit more survivable, try this:

Its what I use to roam around, the sustained damage is very high due to the easy 15-18 stacks of might during the fight. I also personally don’t like having below 2500 armor in general, but thats just me.
I do love the condi duration that chaith has, you can never have too long of an immobilize, thats for sure.

Oozo, you go out of your way to look for fights where you can be outnumbered and constantly perform well. But now you are on day 6 of being kitten ed off about getting zerged away from a mission critical camp on reset night. smoke a joint or something. Youre acting like that bad experience is the entirity of your matchup. Obviously Qadr is a bad talking smack to provoke. Every servers got plenty of Qadrs.
Our 4 man havok has had both YB and EB call 20+ on us probably once every night this week. It’s because the point we were hitting mattered and the first 5-10 they had sent to fix the problem died. Take it as a compliment that you warranted a large response.
All 3 of the servers in this matchup are terrible and they know it. But we’ve all had some good fights, and arguably the best pvf of the whole season.
kitten please, Yaks Bend is awesome and we know it……psshh terrible. I’ll hear none of it!!
FT is a might stacking kitten of a weapon, I recommend a 20/20/0/20/10 grab IP and enhanced preformance. And the rest should be self explanatory. Get 2x altruism and the rest just add might duration (2x fire and 2x strength) sigil of strength
As for gear, I run zerker but if you want to be tougher go knights.
For a roaming build I must tell you FT is going to be easy to counter. It’s sustained dps is ok with it being to easy to keep up 25 stacks of might, but it’s burst is lame and you will need that spike damage to win fights. Your other option is to go conditions but then grenades just overwhelm FT by such a huge margin it’s not even close.
Don’t get me wrong I still use FT from time to time in zergs and group play but only for fun.
I generally use the rifle because I like power far more than condi-damage. Also control is by far my favorite aspect to the game and the rifle gives oh so much of that.
I fluctuate between that build and This one
Depending on what I want to do. The grenades really gives you that additional condi-pressure that the rifle lacks while maintaining a very respectable power punch.
[edit] I believe condi is more popular because for roaming its easier to win with than a power/control build – but that is the nature of conditions, apply and forget. For context, I ONLY play WvW. So this is not a commentary on any other aspect of the game.

Look at the build i posted. Running at 1963 healing power is hilarious! As well as elixir infused bombs scaling 50% better with healing power, this will be my go to for anything i want to. Way more tanky than healing signet and adrenal.
Man, I cannot wait for that 50% extra healing to hit. You posted a very good sustainable support-frontline build. I like it a lot.
Honestly, depending on how much healing the runes give you on switching to medkit, I could see using P/S and healing turret for those water fields in a group fight. It would significantly add to your group support. Havent put much thought into which runes would go well with that tho. Altruism maybe?
[edit] Try This
With the amount of healing power im running with, each bandage is 2k and the f1 is 7k. Those runes heal 1875 every 10 sec to 5 people around you. Thats so much better than healing turret or swapping the runes
That right there is what I was asking, I didn’t know how much they healed. In that case, I completely and fully heartedly agree with your choice. Bravo – that is one helluva healing build.

I’d like to give mad props to the IoJ homeland defense team last night. Yes, we had most of your map, but godkitten if your zerg didn’t wipe us every single time we tried Garrison (at least till I logged).
Yes, that mesmer trick from citadel to gar is handy, I don’t like it, but it sure is handy!! :P
It makes me sad that legendary weapons can even be sold. I am ok with pre-cursors (although I wish we had more ways of getting them) but something feels wrong about selling a legendary. Doesn’t feel legendary at all.
I’ve been saying this since the game came out, I agree completely. I think its very foolish that ascended weapons are account bound instead of their legendary counterparts.
Blows me away.
I’ve started using the FT more and more recently. I don’t take juggernaut though, I can stack 18+ stacks with no problems using this build in WvW. You do lots and lots of damage with FT 2 on a very short recharge. You just have to have mad aiming skillz.
(edited by Like Forty Seven Ninjas.6982)
Build a balance build that tilts a little towards damage and use a staff (though D/D aura share is VERY good too). 0/0/20/20/30 or 0/0/20/30/20 will be optimal for large group play. 20 in Earth is key for Rock Solid. Gear should be a mix of soldiers, knights, cav and zerker to get over 1600 tough, over 16k hp and decent crit + crit dmg. Run ER for heal, Arcane wave and 2 cantrips of your choice (or 3 cantrips). I like boon duration runes just because it increases the stability on Rock Solid… let alone all the other boons.
You know…I knew I liked [GLOB], I just couldn’t put my finger on why…
Here is my large group fight Support build. I also use the boon duration runes and I switch sigils to gain endurance on kill when my traits are 0/0/20/20/30.
Shout out to NA and ORB!….Only guys to stop and fight me as I was running solo yesterday just before primetime. The rest just tried to zerg me or ran b/c they weren’t in a zerg. Seems like most of the fights I got into were interrupted by those rude zergs, but hey, it keeps you on your toes always watching your back for 50 people trying to role one person. I’m not mad at the zerg…they see red and it’s dead…I respect that.
The fight I most remember from yesterday I believe was with an ORB engi. I had a good fight with you in the ruins (some pesky thief interrupted us too) and again just north of the NE camp below the centaurs. Good show bro! Keep it up.
Togo? On YB? What the….?!
.
Awk…..
Now what we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a failure to communicate.
PS: Swindles, bro, you’re on the WRONG server!! Someone get that man a transfer.
The few nights I’ve played this week I’ve had a blast. Good to see Btsy again and vT, mad props to you guys – always enjoy the challenge .
One day Ehmry Bay…..one day your bay shall be ours again…..
There is literally no reason every player in this game should be entitled to receive any item. I’m very much of the opinion that too many people have legendary weapons and the like already.
My asura engi is Dr. Hoppenheimer.
Cause when he jumps he flails his awesome little arms.
Disclaimer: WvW only
I know that it was a bug, but the fix to PoV is kind of the nail in the coffin….We were great at condi removal in a condi-meta. Now we’re OK at condi removal in a condi-meta. I think I’ll give my warrior a few more levels.
I really don’t care for the complete random nature of elixir X. I love both skills…but don’t really care for not knowing which one I’ll get. Because of this, I typically leave it on the shelf like (I would guess) most other engineers.
I agree though, a ton of boons would be more up our alley. give us 15-20s of stability, hell yeah i’d use it.
Whoh, honestly, this may be one of the biggest let downs from the patch. I used that ALL the time, if this puts you in combat, that dodge and poison shot from the thief better as well.
^^ very menacing!!
I’d like to thank all of Yak’s Bend, [PD] made our transfer to YB from DH tonight and had a godkitten blast. See you all on the field.
(edited by Like Forty Seven Ninjas.6982)
It absolutely needs to not have that godkitten red circle. It makes absolutely 0 sense.
I think rifle added to the power tree would be really cool. Give it a daze (or TONS of damage) from stealth, a cripple shot (knee shot), a damaging condition (poison or bleed or torment), a volley (last shot give blind or weakness for 3s or so), and a teleport away.
Would be dope.
(edited by Like Forty Seven Ninjas.6982)
its You.
Am I completely nuts? I don’t think there is in any way in a kajillion years that vuln on blind is better than chill. Chill is one of the absolute best control conditions in the game. Imo, control is ALWAYS better than a marginal damage increase.
When thinking about traits, everyone needs to keep in mind the internal CDs. On a low condition damage build, burns may do more damage, but that is single target damage, and not necessarily 100% up-time.
So, in my experience, in a power build with grenades, that 15% chance to bleed is better than the 4s of burn in large or small group fights. There is no internal CD and it can be reapplied constantly. (I play WvW exclusively so this is where I’m coming from)
On a single target, burn, in this situation is obviously better as shown by those graphs.
Not sure if everyone here only plays sPvP, but here is a variant of this for WvW that I’ve found outstanding. I switch slick shoes out for the EG and use healing turret for more group oriented fights.
My WvW build is nearly identical! Try celestial gear, it has about 55% more stats packed into it than other exotic level gear, all of which is used by this build well.
I’ll check it out, thanks for the tip. I think if any class would benefit from celestial, it would be the engineer.

I REALLY wish we had a tool belt skill for our elite. It would be excellent and would definitely make up for all this RNG bs.
For supply drop let us drop the bandages dropped in the drop as the tool belt.
For Elixir X give us a 3-5s tossable stability.
For Mortar let us pick it back up. (Also make it not suck in general)Do that and every engineer in the entire world will love you forever. You’re welcome.
Considering Toss B is going to get Stability on top of Might, Fury, or Swiftness, your suggestion is pretty weak for Toss X
I don’t know if it would be worth toning down the elites to the extent that would allow toolbelt skills to accompany them.
That is a fantastic point. I’ll just add to the rest of the masses and say this: BUFF THE MORTAR!!!! lol

Fighting a giant ice guy that we pour lava on. All my stuff is broke and I’ve been dead for an episode and a half of Archer now. If this is 80, I’ll just start another character. This is brutal.
Yeah….sounds about right.
Also Archer is the greatest. Carry on.
All our other guilds hide in PvE……..Only Abys and SE would tough it out against the hardest of opponents. And they are sick of being the only guilds doing so.
This is the absolute wrong way to try and build server cohesion. The hardcore WvWs are in many guilds, obviously no one can field the same numbers as those two. If you start lumping people together like that kitten you may push more guilds away.
This thread is so boring. More people need to post.
We have a boring thread this week, too. Let’s be boring thread pals!
TAQUITO IS IN DA HOUSE?!?!11
I’ve missed u and your guns.
Yep! Still here… barely. It’s getting harder and harder to log in, though. This game is pretty much crap now.
^ True that.
Yeahh….this new meta is crap. Its anti-skill in every single way shape and form. Frankly, dodges have lost a lot of effect considering you can’t dodge condi’s on you. AND if you have confusion, chances are, you’ll take even more damage if you dodge.
Yup…..dropped every single ball on that one.
To the NSP group of people I was following around in animal from. I was trying to communicate….ANet didn’t see it in my stars and had kicked my from my guild as well as stopped me from typing ANYTHING. Soooo. The things I was trying to say:
kitten you necro. kitten you, kitten you, kitten YOU. lol you are too powerful for my measly hammer! Did you get the xp for that camp I knocked you out of?
yeah….I think that was it. Please, carry on with the pillage and kitten of ’erbody’s land..
(edit) and yes, flippyfloppy, I do still play. Tho real life has been catching up with me.

Finally found a PD that wasn’t nut hugging a group of randoms, unfortunately he was mostly terrible.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfFa0awGQqYBunker condi necro vs glass necro. There is just so much player skill from both sides in this video it is staggering. It is a truly amazing meta that we play in.
LOL waffler you killed Erro. Man oh man too funny. Yeah, he made a power necro to not be like everyone and their mom that plays the ez-mode necro. He does that, right now he is making a mantra mesmer just to make it work.
So yeah. You’re cool

Acium is absolutely one of the best commanders we have. +many for this guild. Good luck with members Acium.
Welp, here is mine.

Now those are some kitten good stats. I’ve been really thinking about switching up and dropping a bit of armor (sitting pretty above 3.5k in combat) and putting it into either power or healing power.
I think I’ll stop screwin around and finally put my guy up. Ya’ll have inspired me lol.
[edit] Here’s my guardian
(edited by Like Forty Seven Ninjas.6982)
Anyone know if there is an internal cooldown on the trait?
Idk, I do agree that the medkit gives better single target healing but with all those blasts at your disposal and the complete lack of immob cleansing I personally would stay away from that 4th kit. That’s just my thoughts though, by no means am I completely sane.
Another thought, if you get perma-regen in combat, think about switching out your runes and using healing turret. Imo with that low of crit chance/damage along with all of your slows, the fury and swiftness given to you from the medkit are fairly useless. I’ve been toying around with the runes of the engineer/forge/guardian. You sacrifice healing and gain damage/direct damage resistance. Dat burning from guardian runes. Very boss when combined with gear shield.
One last possibility because you mentioned you weren’t sold on the hydromancy (personally my fav sigil actually), try the sigil of doom. If it is fixed that extra poison might add some pressure on your target.
This is across the board. I was buying level 80 rare armor for salvage and suddenly the price of all of them went to 20@20s for every rare armor with a rune from bids in the16-18s range. That’s a 400g+ worth of offers there. It makes no sense in terms of flipping because there are plenty of supply under 23s and salvaging ectos and runes on average would be a loss as well unless the RNG is ever in their favor.
There’s got to be another profit angle I’m not seeing because I can’t accept someone(s) just being a spoiler.
That sounds like something I’d do to push people out of a market…..Those that want the items to flip will get tired of not having any income from some of those and may move elsewhere which means less competition.
Just sayin..
This. Other MMOs foster environments where bidders try to scare each other out of the market. People like the poster above falsely apply this tactic in the GW2 marketplace.
It doesn’t work btw. What you don’t understand is the sheer volume of flippable items on the market. You simply can’t cover enough ground.
So what is it doing? Making me chuckle, that’s what. I’ve flipped enough that I can tell what I will make money from and what I won’t just by looking at the prices. So when I pass over an item, it’s not because your buy offer was SO BIG AND SCARY!!! It means I know I won’t make any money from it.
But if I won’t, neither will you. No big deal… unless someone sells you the item, then you’re one stuck with it. And by ensuring I won’t make a profit from it, you’ve ensured you won’t either. So best case scenario you’re wasting your time, worst case scenario someone takes your ridiculous overcut and you lose money.
Meanwhile I’m taking my pick of the items that are still flippable, since there’s you know, thousands and thousands of them. So keep it up. Irony is so delicious.
I was just providing a suggestion as to why it would happen mr cranky. But for reals, you literally JUST proved my point. You’d bypass the item. Low volume items work wonderfully considering you wont eat many at the high price. Your high bid doesn’t even have to be break even, most people drop out before it gets there.
I’d sure as hell not do it for high volume items though. No way no how.

I do like the build.
My only thought is your condi removal looks fairly poor. I honestly would take the healing turret for that reason alone, it combos amazingly for extra heals with the BoB/EG 4. It would give you better heals/condi removal/team support. You would have to change your gameplay a bit though – turret is worse than the medipack for kiting.
Med Kit is better than the Healing Turret for condition removal thanks to #4 (Adrenal), which is on a 15s cooldown. Not to mention the better self-heals.
I run Med Kit when solo/small group and HT when in a larger group and/or fighting on nodes in sPvP.
Unless they’ve changed it, thats 1 condition every 15s that you have to run into. Turret is 2 conditions every 20s and you don’t have to be on top of it to get it so its useful if you’re immobilized. I do realize that for simply kiting the med kit is better, but for the rest of the game, I think the turret synergies better. May just be me though.
Can’t hear you over having both bay and hills
Weeeellllll….balls. lol
Many of the necro’s conditions can be unblockable, on a short cooldown, and chained with a lot of single target CC. This is why, imo, the current condi necro is too powerful. Because the counters to all of these things are on far longer cooldowns less skill is required.
My definition of OP = build/class that requires less “skill” to play/use yet achieves the same or better results the majority of the time. See the influx of new necro’s? Yup, its not cause just now EVERYONE decided they look cool.
(edit) My entire comment is for WvW. No idea if its legit for sPvP at all.

Retaliation while using the grenade kit.
Wasn’t going to post but just read that one about retaliation :P
I know your pain. Lol @ people who haven’t played an engi and are telling us to l2p because we were actually designed to take 3x the damage from retaliation with our main anti-zerg weapon. Against an equally coordinated guild/group just asking for boon stripping isn’t going to cut it. The grenade/FT are great kits but are too dangerous in large groups. I’d be perfectly fine with a high risk/high reward, but I don’t think the damage is high enough on grenades to warrant that much retaliation damage.
Imho this game’s retaliation is bassackwards. It should penalize those who do lots of damage….so they stop attacking….not those who attack quickly. GW1 had it down, GW2 does not.
Guardian or Warrior.
wow, let the epic debate start! lol
I know both are good in PvE and im all set in that way both seem quite equal
Im curious about WvW and maybe abit of team pvp later on when i get into the game more.
What I’m looking for is the ability to support a zerg if i need to and to be able to survive decently in those head on zerg vs zerg fights, while doing decent damage to auctally feel like im putting pressure on the enemy. (my thiekittenda gets squashed
underfoot instantly).Im also looking for the ability to solo roam if i feel the want to and be able to hold my own in a 1v1 or even a 1v2 if it pops up.
I havent much to say because there is too many to say and i havent time right now XD
pve (events): guardian for better aoe
pve (dungeons): guardian for support, warrior for massive damage
HotM: guardian bunker, warrior skull crack
WvW: guardian support, warrior… something like burst and diein general
offensive abilities: warrior > guardian
defensive abilities: guardian > warrior
support abilities: guardin > warrior
I think in the WvW meta, a shout healing/banner hammer warrior provides just as much support (albeit a different sort) as a guardian. You don’t see anyone worth their salt as a warrior dying after the burst either. In WvW, Imo, its a toss up – either are good, guards are more defensive and warriors are more offensive. Pick your poison and you’ll have a good time. in PvE its a warrior by leaps and bounds because of the damage they put out.

I could really see a guardian using a hammer and staff with perplexity runes REALLY rack up the confusion on a zerg. That would be very interesting.
