Thanks, it’s a fun build

Thanks for your input!
Ferg Crossing
Oh yeah, it was fun haha!

Some roaming footage over the past few days. Nothing super special just some roaming for your enjoyment.

This may be a long shot but another possibility… Check the temp of your CPU. You could have a fan or pump (if you are water cooled) going out. That would cause your CPU temps to rise too high and sometimes give a BSOD or a restart.
Speedfan is free program you can use to check your system temps. I’ve had this happen to me on my system before. It would give me BSOD’s, restart, and consistent in game lag every few minutes. Cheap and easy fix if this is the problem would be to get a new CPU fan/heatsink combo and you’ll be good to go.
Just a thought.
Ferg Crossing
Not bad but I think you would benefit more from taking the 5 in power and the 5 in precision and putting either 10 in power or finishing out discipline and taking burst mastery. You could run a 10/0/30/0/30 or a 0/0/30/10/30 as both work really well. Go zerker armor and make up some toughness in accessories. You should still land some decent crits and be able to take a few hits.
Ferg Crossing
No it’s not balanced. Neither is a GC Warrior who crits for 17k or 100b you to death. Neither is a GC Power Bow Ranger who can Rapid Fire you to death. Neither is a Mesmer who can just 1shot anyone that is also GC spec. Neither is a GC Necro with daggers. Neither is a 100nades Engi or Rifle Burst Engi. etc etc
You might wanna report all this classes while you’re at it if you’re going to complain.
tl;dr not a class issue just a game issue with stat distribution.
yet you can see those other classes and avoid them. not so with thieves.
You should just learn how to counter stealth. Im a mesmer and the class I love to fight the most is thief because it is a challenge to win from a good thief, not those glass cannons they die before they can even land BS on me. The problem is not with stealth, but with you.
So very well said Kamata!
Ferg Crossing
It’s a a condition build. That means there isn’t any burst damage. You won’t see big numbers. It’s based around applying bleeds to your target. Stealth from CnD then sneak attack to apply bleeds. Throw caltrops into the mix. It’s easy to get 15 stacks in a matter of seconds. Those stacks add up doing around 100+ damage per second. So 15-20 stacks will bring anyone down fairly quick.
The gear you need to go with is carrion gear with condition damage. The problem you will face is that people are getting smart and specing to remove conditions. Well, some people are, I find the majority are still without any kind of condition removal. The survival is great, especially if you like to roam. I find it very boring to play P/D while in a large zerg though.
Just remember, cloak n dagger —-> sneak attack… If you get rooted or immobilized, use shadow strike to get out. Fun build but like all builds, it does have it’s drawbacks.
Ferg Crossing
Is OP just the word for strong or good nowadays? I always thought OP meant broken, imbalanced etc.
Guess its like troll someone that disagrees is a troll it seems now.
I have kind of been wondering the same thing. You’d figure OP would mean just that, overpowered, broken, and imbalanced. Now it kind of seems like people spout out the OP term if they can’t beat a class in wvw. Anyway, as the post is talking about pve I would have to say I’ve noticed little to no change with the stealth update.
Ferg Crossing
you mean you don’t think this is balanced?
An thief killing other thieves and low lvls.
Hi , do i miss any point ?
did he even atempted to kill an lvl 80 guardian /elementarist /engenier /warrior /necro /mesmer … with double food buff, like he used ?
would he even had an chance?
How dare youget off my thrwead unless you are going to see other evidence
I am sorry that not everybody share same point with you.
And please stay on topic, is related to thieves issues.
Stealth is an defence mechanismDefense mechanism!? Umm… Let’s see, yes, but a good defense only contributes to a good offense. Considering stealth is OP and a GREAT defense, it is easily turned into and used as a GREAT offense. One in which most all other players/classes have little defense against…
The thief is encouraged to flank based on traits or weapon skills. Even the thief rune gives 10% more damage from the side or back.
I’d like to see how someone gets around the side or back of a player not invisible. My backstab hits for like 2.4k from the side on a crit and I have 75 crit damage 2.3k power.
Im in all pvt gear and only 3 zerker trinkets and runes of divinity with like 65 crit damage and iZerker on my mesmer easily clears 4k. Duelist is on average 3k.
Speaking WvW in particular:
Sure, the thief needs to be able to ‘get around’ and have the ability to attack from the rear and from the side. Though they can go in and out of stealth pretty easily. Just because a thief puts on SR doesn’t mean he’ll stay there to be hit by some luckily places AoE. That’s what it is when the thief goes stealth for most classes, it comes down to lucky AoE. Even then, Thieves can get away pretty easily.
If an opposing class is playing a bunker type build and has a high amount of toughness/hp, the thief has a lot of freedom to give up on the fight, stealth, and go for someone else. The issue(and it’s not completely culling), is the fact that opposing classes against the thief lose target and have little if any reliable tracking of the thief when he goes into stealth. Rightly so, because it’s stealth. However, it’s very hard and almost impossible to fight something you can’t see.
Players have no clue that a 6k+ damage assault from a thief is coming, can’t defend against it, and little to no time to react to prevent the thief from going back into stealth. Defending player may be able to get a heal and get back to close full health, but then the cooldown to heal again is typically longer than the thief’s cooldown to for stealth abilities. So even after the initial strike, opposing players are forced to try to predict where the thief is, acquire target, try to land some damage and possibly dodge(depending on health at this point) all within a very short window of time before the thief goes stealth again. Stringing stealth, average to good thieves can whittle down an opponent rather quickly in a 1-1 encounter in WvW. Sure WvW isn’t 1-1, but there are many cases it happens. Besides, I’ve seen a thief take down more than 2-3 players in WvW several times who were trying to fight against the thief. They all died. They’re not terrible players either, but against a good thief, they couldn’t be very effective. It took another thief to come and kill the thief that killed them…
If you don’t take down a thief in the very small window of opportunity you typically hardly have, the thief can easily get away, recoup, and come at you again at his leisure.
I certainly don’t want the class to be nerfed to any major degree. Though, there needs to be some adjustment.
Yes they do have to stay in SR.. For 3 seconds or so.
no they don’t. thieves have reported that they use sr as a way to divert attention away from where they are. thieves have plenty of other ways to stay stealthed outside of sr. culling for one.
If a thief wants to take advantage of the stealth from SR yes he does have to stay in it. Also, culling affects everyone, not just thieves and is much more noticeable in groups from what most people have been reporting. Can we please drop the culling issue? There’s a fix coming and it’s something that is out of the players control to begin with.
Ferg Crossing
Some thief builds have burst but not all thieves play a busrty backstab build either. Backstab is a high risk high reward attack if you can land it. That’s how it should be.
Ferg Crossing
It’s one way to handle it yes. I’ve still yet to encounter a permastealthed anything that does damage while maintaining 100% stealth throughout the duration of a fight.. But if I did, I suppose I would either run or take the advice of the many thieves on this forum.
Ferg Crossing
Cloak and Dagger – The person being hit gets stealthed and the thief gets a reveal buff.
Ferg Crossing
Gw2 is close enough to other games. scenery is different though.
Then if the game is so broken like you suggest, why do you play it if it’s “close enough” to other games? Go play those other games where you don’t have to worry about GW2 stealth mechanics and culling.
Ferg Crossing
lol many attacks fail. obstruction blocks half my bow shots
That’s a L2P issue, not a class issue.
What else you got?
nope. it’s evidence that attacks do miss. thus, it refutes your argument.
It’s missing because you’re trying to range the thief when there’s an object between you. That’s what an obstruction is…
My god.
I always try to get behind a tree or something when facing another range if I’m going P/D spec. Obstruction is just that… an obstruction… do you honestly expect your arrows to go through trees and rocks? Geeze… I think your mentality has been nerfed…
Ferg Crossing
LOL at first I thought he was serious, but now it’s hilarious!
Ferg Crossing
Thanks for reporting this. An honorable thief.
Yeah, thanks for reporting this, hopefully they fix the tooltip soon
Ferg Crossing
That’s why most games don’t allow stealth to lose aggro. The change made great sense, and thieves are still very powerful.
GW2 isn’t most games, and most games aren’t as good as GW2 or you’d be playing them instead of GW2. Please stop trying to compare apples to oranges… It’s getting old.
I think the change was fine but aggro should be aggro. If the thief has done enough damage to still maintain aggro after he pops out of stealth than sure, the mob should pick him back up. But if someone pulls ahead in aggro then the thief shouldn’t be instantly targeted when he comes out of stealth.
Ferg Crossing
Looks like a solid build. I often switch out SR for blinding powder. I find that the instant invis and blind offered more in solo play than did SR. I think most people are on to SR and how to counter it.
Ferg Crossing
I hopped on my warrior last night for the first time in a while to try out Sanny’s glass hammer build. My first encounter was a against a thief. As soon as he popped shadow refuge I went in there and unleashed everything in the circle. When stealth wore off he was already downed and ready for the stomp. I just followed all the advice myself and others have provided to counter stealth. Guess what… It worked!
Ferg Crossing
It only confirms my suspicion that ranger pets were smarter than their masters…
Haha! In most cases I would have to agree with you
Ferg Crossing
Guess the OP deleted his post…
Ferg Crossing
that s what they said in pvp forum about warriors easiest prof to take down by any other prof … is that true ?
Look up Sannys warrior vids on youtube. T3HSanny is his user name. I think he’d disagree. Anyway, at level 8 you’re not going to get a complete grasp or feel for any char.
Ferg Crossing
As far as tips, it seems for the most part you continuously spam heartseeker. I didn’t really see much else in actual play style. Practice timing with CnD and positioning for backstab. Don’t rely solely on heartseeker. Heartseeker is great for a gap closer and better used when your target is at least below 50% health.
Ferg Crossing
I’m sure he appreciates all the tips but I think his point wasn’t to come out and say “Hey, I’m the best thief ever” but to just put a compilation together of thief vs thief. Well done.
Ferg Crossing
this is the last time i will be posting in this thread
This is cause for celebration. /cheer

Shrilly… If you start a fire, you better be prepared to deal with the flames. This is no longer “your” thread. If you expect people to take you seriously considering the way you’ve approached this, it’s not likely going to happen now. On the other hand, if you want a real discussion about legitimate ways to handle your problems with thieves, you’ve already gone about it in the wrong way. Don’t pass judgement on everyone’s input that differs from yours, it just makes you sound ignorant of the whole situation.
I love this so much it was my thread and i wanted anet to see it not pro thiefs make comments on it where i had to rationalize with HARD PROOF theres a human thief that stays stealth the whole time there are countless videos of thieves taking on whole zergs i pass judgement on the wrong views sir like yours which is bent in biased and unrational thinking. think about the other classes that have to deal with your bs and as previously stated i dont give a kitten what you think. who the kitten are you? another thief in the bucket. the thread has come to the doorstep of the thief capital pulled down its pants and grabbed its ankles so the thread is now useless.
You’re a great example of what inexperience brings to the forum when trying to voice your opinion in such a domineering way.

Am I the only one here not able to stand the sight of ANYTHING that carries a kitten hood, daggers everywhere in a stale Assassin’s Creed / <insert anime here> fashion?
Besides, I choose the Order of Whispers because of Tybalt, he is beyond epic.
Tybalt is most definitely way beyond epic
Ferg Crossing
I play d/d in dungeons full beserker gear, except 2 or maybe 3 valkyrie accessories for some hp. Build: 0/30/30/0/10. I cloak and dagger a lot for losing agro for a while as I take it alot considering damage. Also the shadow arts gives a lot of healing. I never actually invested in defensive gear, and will never do so. I mean thief is made for damage, just play smart and you’ll be fine in most dungeons.
I run the same build. In SA I go with blind on stealth and pop CnD as much as possible. Helps mitigate the damage really well in most fights.
Ferg Crossing
Good points awge, but its also worth noting that many
classes like an Ele have to blow defensive CDs to survive
the first battle (ie Arcane Shield, Lightning Flash, etc), and
those will be on CD when the second fight starts 5 seconds
later.
I takes a lot longer than 5 seconds to reset a fight to where both people are out of combat.
Ferg Crossing
It is like we were holding a dagger and they managed to steal a great sword.
That’s absurd, we thieves don’t like greatswords
Ferg Crossing
well look at the thousands of posts in this thread alone. look to the posts in the wvwvw forum. all saying that perma stealth in wvwvw is broken. it’s not just me.
Of course it’s not just you, you only account for 90% of them…
Ferg Crossing
we all see the permastealthing before our eyes. first it was “permastealth is impossible.” then when proven wrong it was “well it’s useless.” then when proven wrong it was “well no one does it but noob thieves.” Now it’s “well you can counter it..”
That’s because you have many different ideas and definitions for “permastealth” based on what argument suits your purpose at the time.
Ferg Crossing
There’s time to react or else it would be unanimous by everyone who plays (other professions) that thieves can’t be killed, thieves are OP, thieves can’t be targeted, or thieves cannot be countered. Unfortunately for your argument, a lot of players at all skill levels don’t have the problems that you do and can handle thieves of all builds without issues.
While I’m sure people do have issues with thieves, I’m sure just as many, if not more, do not have those problems or ANet would have resolved them by now in one of the many patches they have put out.
Ferg Crossing
Well put Red. Anytime I lose I look back and see what I could have done differently to win. Although the argument we will get here is “you’re permastealthed, we can’t see you”. I feel that’s complete bs… I’ve never engaged a thief that was 100% stealthed throughout the fight and I spend most of my time in wvw. I’d like to see video from the people like Columba and others who are posting in this thread of their own encounters with thieves so we all have a better idea of what’s happening.
Ferg Crossing
Tab targeting works for so many others, why doesn’t it work for you? You sure you’re doing it right?
Ferg Crossing
I’ve had a lot of success in dungeons with the following D/D build.
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-c33V;1Rwk0-I5FOVd0;9;5TT9;252B59A5;3JRV7o
30 in SA works wonders for thieves in dungeons. Heal on stealth, regen initiative on stealth, and blind on stealth. The blind on stealth is an awesome damage mitigation in dungeons.
I hit Cloak and Dagger every few seconds to blind the target, heal, and set up a backstab. If I start to get low on health i’ll cloak and dagger a few times and back out. Usually after 3-4 of em I’m back to full health. For multiple mobs i’ll pull out the short bow and poison field / cluster bomb away then switch back to the daggers to finish up.
For utilities I go with hide in shadows, shadow step, blinding powder, and shadows refuge. I’m always watching peoples health. If someone is getting too low on health I’ll shadow step to them and hit blinding powder. This pulls aggro off of them and gives them a chance to get out before they bite the dust. If someone dies, I’ll shadow step to them, pop shadow’s refuge and stealth res them.
It keeps you mobile, gives you amazing burst, and brings a lot of utility to the fight.
Ferg Crossing
I don’t really see anything wrong with your build. I always like to have atleast 15 in SA. Your S/D so it looks pretty good to me. Try em up both ways. That’s the only real way to see what works best for you and your play style.
Ferg Crossing
S/P is great for leveling. Add haste to the mix and you can get in 2 fast pistol whips in a row. I used S/P for most of my world completion. My favorite thing to do was trigger haste, precast pistol whip, and steal. It’s like a jacked up instant pistol whip from a distance. Fun times!
Ferg Crossing
Devs have the flexibility to do that now. They choose not to touch stealth for a reason. They decided after three betas it was okay. They have not touched it since launch. They obviously feel that stealth is right where it should be. They have hit other aspects, just not stealth.
I wish you would make up your mind on what your problem is… Stealth in general, or Permastealth?
Ferg Crossing
Thieves are also the only class that get the max benefits of a spec line (stealth) without having to spec for it.
You can’t heal while stealthed unless you have 30 in Shadow Arts. You only need to spec 15 into the tree to get the extra second of stealth. 20 in SA will allow you to remove 1 condition every 3 seconds while in stealth. But to “perma stealth” you need to have at least 15 in SA so you get the full four seconds instead of three. So thieves still need to spec 30 into the SA tree if they want the max benefits of healing and condition removal. Only 15 if they want the extra second of stealth.
Ferg Crossing
With that much damage, I figured the rabbit would have been punted into the next map.
Ferg Crossing
He knows adding more to the reveal timer won’t affect or change permastealth. It’s been told to him countless times. He just wants thieves nerfed so he has an easier time in wvw.
Ferg Crossing
I leveled my warrior just off crafting, it is a great way if you can spare the gold for the mats. It took about 15 hours total. I’m sure prices are much more now than when I did it but It took me about 50g to go from 1-80 a few months ago. The only downfall is you miss out on all the waypoints. So you’ll have to spend time gathering waypoints when your finished.
Ferg Crossing
Also, stick to the map and aim for 100% completion before you move to the next map. If you do the 1-15 area real fast and find that the 15+ area is too hard, you can do other class starting areas. So you could do all the 1-15 starting areas without sacrificing any xp gain.
Ferg Crossing
No worse than most? They’re base survivability is worse than everything but the Elementalist.
Lowest Health bracket.
Medium armor.
Only thing worse is Lowest health bracket + light armor. Which is the Ele…I’m telling you roll that stealthless thief brah, do it and gain some perspective.
You’ll be surprised on both ends.who’s talking about stealthless thieves? I am talking about minor adjustments to thieves. It’s irrational to claim that thieves are untouchables and can never have their stealth adjusted. all classes get their skills adjusted. adapt and move on. you can’t handcuff the developers to fix badly broken stealth mechanics in wvw. it’s not reasonable and it’s melodramatic.
Permastealth has been around since the first beta weekend.. They have had plenty of time to change it if they thought it necessary to do so. Guess what, they feel that it’s perfectly fine how it is and cater to the majority. You argue it’s unfair and many agree with you? Who are these “many” that agree with you. I think I’ve counted maybe a total of 5? On the contrary, many more agree that it’s fine, plenty of people (mostly other classes) defeat thieves each and every day, and the majority is not siding with you on this.
Ferg Crossing
S/P is pretty fun and very high powered. I liked the sword when I leveled due to the ability to hit more than one target at a time. Since you’re only level 6 I wouldn’t worry too much about traits, just plop em in deadly arts for a while till you get to a higher level. As far as gear, just go with whatever is best that you run across while leveling. I’d keep an eye out for gear with Power/Precision/Crit Damage (also called berserker gear) while your leveling though. It will increase your damage, crit chance, and crit damage.
Ferg Crossing
Considering thieves need to get behind you for a backstab, it’s kind of obvious where you need to place your AOE…
Indeed, but if we are constantly moving to prevent backstab, it’s not so obvious where to aoe.
So what do you do when you move, close your eyes and randomly wiggle your mouse while saying “dear god please don’t hit me”? Drop your AOE, run near it or in it.
Ferg Crossing
