There is no point focusing on burn condition, as a necro we simply dont stack it enough to be viable, its just a bonus at best. bleeding, chill and torment are our major tools, with talents designed to compliment them i think its safe to say that although they dont have the potency of burn, they are quite powerful when combined with each other.

Condi is amazing, ive only been playing 6 months ish, necro main, and i chose it due to the whole condition master theme, now its actually a reality its amazing. Agreed on the flexibility comment, play either a tough, death reincarnate bruiser melee style, or a stay back and rot your target to death through conditions. ANet have done an amazing job with necro, setting the bar for other professions to be equally as competent and diverse.

First off, im having a ton of fun with this build, im no pro, just an average player focussing on pvp, would appreciate any advice on build, but as it stands, with good positioning and gameplay, im destroying everything.

some 1v1s are hard, but if played right you can litteraly just watch people rot away from conditions, using RS as a save by the way, usually helps to finish off melee that are low and get close after stuns/slows wear off.

Ive only been playing a few months and spvp is my game mode, but i do like to do the occaisional pve dungeon/fractal, so im forced to kitten about trying to get map completion and new skill points only obtainable through stupid glider or mushroom hopping to unlock my game. Geez im sick of seeing these pathetic threads crop up every week. People just straight up expecting a free game because they have seen the new specs in action and are crying because they are too tightfisted to pay for the expansion. Newsflash, HoT (and its new specs) are an expansion pack, meaning its new content, meaning it should, like any other expansion, DL pack or sequel, be kittening paid for. Moderators should start handing out bans for people who continually whine about this. I dont want someone who is not willing to pay to have the same gaming experience as me, and that is fair. Besides, its not like the old specs are completely obsolete.

Although i firmly believe that stat spread should be a free choice in spvp, and that drop down boxes would serve far better than just introducing new amulets, there needs to be a good analysis of what is lacking for certain professions before making them. For instance, lets take the thief as an example, although a good profession in terms of burst damage, they have horrible defenses outside of long stealth cooldowns etc, and as a low hp profession this just adds to the difficulty in choosing an amulet, on the one hand you could go with the normal power, precision, ferocity amulet, and hope to whatever deity you pray to that you kill them first, or, for experimental purposes, take a power amulet with vit and toughness to give some staying power. The latter is what i consider a good gaming mindset, traits and natural profession gameplay give that upfront burst which is what a thief is all about, then bolster that with some defensive capabilities with an amulet. However, it just doesnt work, because a thief needs crit and ferocity to be capable of bringing anyone down, ideally they need a stat spread that allows them to get the power and crit they need, with a little defense on the side to be able to stand half a chance, and guess what…it doesnt exist. The flip side of the coin is the warrior, who has a naturally asburd amount of hp as standard, and only has to worry about what amulet will boost his playstyle best, offense or defense. The current system favors certain professions a lot more than others, and is more responsible for the imbalance between professions than the actual trait/abilities they possess. Food for thought my dear friends….discuss.

Firstly, great thread, its refreshing to know that there is a good gaming community in GW2.

On to my somewhat hopeful request…

I would love the Aetherized pistol skin to finish my gunslinger look im trying to achieve on my thief, it also shares a pistol skin with antique revolver weapons if that is any help. I realize that this is a big request as the skin is rather expensive in the TP, and it costs 5 Black Lion Tokens from the vendor, which is also proving very difficult to get as i have no keys to open the 40+ chests i have. My gratitude would be through the roof if anyone can help.

Why we have to be pigeonholed into these amulets anyway is beyond me, the flexibility allowed in WvW gear is perfect, and would allow much more build options for professions in spvp, keep the stat balance because this is good, so no advantage from ascended gear etc, but allowing freedom in stat spread is the way forward, allowing people to perfect how much offensive and defensive ability they want.

I wasnt suggesting a full on auto attack, thats too easy. What im suggesting is that once you activate grenade/mortar #1, you still aim with the mouse, and fire with left mouse click, but that the target reticule doesnt dissapear after you fire, essentially removing the need to continuously press #1, having grenades automatically fire at an opponents feet would be stupid, especially in pvp where more often than not you are aiming at where they will be in half a second or so.

I suggested an option in a similar thread a few weeks back, where once you press 1, the targeting circle stays until you activate another skill, essentially you would select say grenade 1, and then only have to move the target circle to where you want, then fire, move, then fire, without the need to reactivate the skill. It wouldn’t be game breaking or OP, just allow engi players yo save their hands and have slightly quicker reactions to enemy movements, especially in pvp.

@lahm, I really like your build, which amulet would you recommend to convert it to a pvp build. It’s the only thing that annoys me about pvp, especially condi builds, is that the amulets force you to take stats you don’t want, there’s no condi, vit and precision amulet for example, or even a condi, vit, toughness. I feel I need a bit of extra survivability.

Ive been messing around on the beta on most professions, and i am a bit puzzled by the revenant legends and traits, i was wondering if anyone could give me a brief overview of what the legends provide and what trait lines are for.

For example, if i go on gw wiki and search necromancer, it tells me that the curses line is for condi, soul is traits for shroud, and death magic is minions etc, the page for revenant doesnt have that info yet.

Take a closer look at the necrosis bar in ds, under the red hp bar is greyish coloured bar that represents his life force. Having it visible before its popped though would be a bit unfair, like showing remaining cooldown time on a utility.

I think pistol should be power orientated, move away from condi builds. Engis already have condi pistol, thief should stick to the gunslinging archetype, high and quick burst direct damage. Remove the bleeds etc and replace with vulnerable and cripple condis on 1 + 2 to allow set up for huge burst and kite potential with unload. Offhand is fine as is. Trait wise allow for a choice between boost to single target sustain, aoe (ricochet), or more utility through say boon strip for use in pvp. Synergy with traps is ideal for pvp, not sure what for pve though. I don’t main a thief but i really like the play style especially dual pistols, don’t want to see this prof crash and burn.

Just found it on wiki, reaper reward track unlocks unique gs and light helm skin. But 80 points? Furthermore, is there any more info on these reward tracks and how they function, I assume that the come HoT, we will have to spend points in a skill track (shouts) and a trait track (reaper) to unlock abilities much like we do now with existing skills and trait lines. How do these reward tracks differ? Is it purely cosmetic, and separate from mastery points? I’ve tried looking on wiki but all it says is that they will be in the game, nothing more.

Thing is, you can dodge out of the area that a grenade will land in now, an AA would essentially mean a homing grenade. I can hear the spvp cries already. I agree though it is tedious clicking again and again, maybe having a permanent targeting circle after clicking #1 would be a possible solution.

@nay of the ether. Firstly, theres no need for a hissy fit, im at complete liberty do discuss any game aspects, both active and potential, whenever i please. I wasnt suggesting that there is or should be a holy trinity, i have played mmos a long time and am well aware of how it works, and the fact that gw is more dynamic in this respect is why i choose to play it. However, given the new, more specialized/focused feel of these elite specs that are on the way, roles are not completely irrelevant in any respect. obviously everyone does damage, but then some profs shine better at say healing a group through heals, protection etc, whereas others could play a more tanky role given higher hp pools, toughness and prof mechanics that allow them to do so.

Yes I understand that is not possible now, because I was thinking relying on Druid healing as it looks like it might be very potent. Also, would running high vit and toughness gear, traits that give stacking toughness on condi apply (forget the names) not suffice, basically camping shroud as long as possible. Trying to think of niches that necrosis could fill in upcoming content. We have an absurd hp pool to take advantage of after all.

@methanegas, I wouldn’t take his posts too seriously, having a quick look at his previous posts in all forums he’s crying OP here and whining on the Mesmer threads that their ability to apply torment isn’t as potent…and that was just at a glance at the top few. From a spvp perspective I’m quite looking forward to the changes and eager to try them out on Tuesday. on a side note does anyone know when the next BWE is? I’m interested in how these changes will work with reaper.

It’s slightly annoying that some amulets are perfectly tailored for certain builds, whereas others have to make do with what they can get. For example there is no power, precision, vitality amulet.

Medieval themed…with asura gates, teleporting, airships, and the list goes on. I do get the ranger/hunter theme perfectly, and primarily, it’s about taking your enemy out from range with long range weapons. I wasn’t suggesting changing the theme of the ranger entirely but a rifle seems to be reasonable, especially given the technology provided by allies in tyria, if we’re going down that rp thought train. Anyway, I went with engi as it lets me play all the guns, which is what I wanted most.

Can’t decide whether this is a massive troll or not. I mean the reaper spec has filled gaps that were gaping…what do you want? A mellee powerhouse that can also wreck from range, be serious. It allows any necro player to choose how they want to play, ranged, or up close. There’s always going to be a trade off.

@silv…the necro not being able to wvw Zerg? how about spectral armor, plus whatever other defensives your train throw up, and the huge aoe fest that comes from gs and rs now, there are plenty of options to make it tanky and more survivable, have you even put any decent hours into the beta to come to your conclusion??? Look at the stacking toughness traits or life regen in shroud options.

The only problem I have at the moment is the way our traits are scattered about makes it hard to make a perfect build, for example any serious shroud build needs both reaper and soul reaping trait lines, leaving only one more line to really focus our out of shroud gameplay, is nothing too bad, but I think one or two traits could be shuffled for qol.

Reapers in a nice spot, pretty much bang on expectations, I don’t understand the whining at all.

I’m a newish player, trying to find my feet with a couple of alt characters now iv hit 80 on my main. I quite like the hunter, good ranged burst, but why…WHY can’t I use pistols or a rifle, I mean seriously is this some kind of joke?

Thanks for all the advice, its been superb! I know that condi necro is hard to play, and a little subpar, especially in spvp, but i enjoy it a lot and the difficulty of the build and playstyle will hopefully make me a better player…talking dodging, situational awareness etc. Actually having a blast with the builds you’ve give me, any class without low cd cleanse just melts, talking casual unranked here but still. Good to know that despite all the negative threads i read since starting playing gw2 a month ago…playing whatever you want can still work. Also…compared to all the other profession forums, necro is one of the more constructive in terms of advice and criticism. Thanks for not berating me and helping out

EDIT: something i wanted to ask, why do no builds take lingering curse, the extra condi damage and duration seems obvious?? Also, does increasing a condi duration mean the same damage over a longer period, thus lowering the burst potential?
