Any chance HoT will have any ranged meta for pve such as dungeons? I enjoy playing ranged classes but the game has had melee meta since launch for pretty much every lass. Even if its able to cast ranged such as ele they are still expected to stand with the melee.
I guess a second concern would be making sure every class is included in the meta as this game has had pretty horrible balancing keeping only 3-4 classes in the meta at a time for pve and pvp.
Eles atm aren’t exactly powerful but they can hold their own if your good. There will be a new patch soon but most the ones I see run a staff support build or more commonly the s/d fresh air build.
Yes, I did it with lover before I made my dreamer a few months after the game came out. It didn’t affect anything and had a nice feathery look to it.
Put down that blind field so they miss half their pistol whip and the damage is pretty low also.
Just no… Black Powder will do nothing to them, don’t waste the initiative unless you need stealth to cover your heal or you’re timing a heartseeker at the end of their pistol whip so you can get a backstab in.
You said it yourself… I just didn’t post the rest of it as its kind of obvious to the d/p rotation. And yes, it does lower their damage as they will miss a few of the hits and sometimes they miss the stun at the beginning if you got it down in time, unless they are still in their haste phase in which you need to dodge away / stun break.
I love killing those hambow warriors on my thief, they rage so hard when I own them. Once you understand them they are pretty easy to kill. I admit I hate fighting zoo necros though
You have access to more stealths than they do which is a big advantage. Also most s/p thieves use haste skill to burst target down.. so if you avoid that they are pretty easy until their 45 seconds cool down is back up.
Put down that blind field so they miss half their pistol whip and the damage is pretty low also. The only thing you have to worry about like I said above is their burst, get caught off guard with no stun break and you will probably die.
Hambows are easy to kill as long as you stay out of their red circle.. thats where they get much of their damage. Switch to range for a sec. I play as d/p thief and have no problems with hambow wars… zoo necros on the other hand…..
The main issue with the Marionette is a spawn timer with 2 hours, combined with requirements that people execute the event. If Lliadri the Concealing Dark was on a 2 hour spawn window, the amount of people who actually would have been able to complete it would have been next to none. The bosses in the rings can one shot you. You can’t learn about what can one shot you without being one shot. Not only that, but you also need teamwork in many of them. A holo-deck mode, or practice, where people could Learn on something faster than a 2 hour window would help tremendously with this.
I think only two of the platforms have bosses with one shot mechanics that are easy to avoid. Don’t stand in red circles and you won’t die.. most the deaths I see on the platforms are people who don’t know how to dodge or move out of the obvious. This boss is downed most rounds on JQ server anyway and I suspect many others. Its not a hard fight, in fact its quite easy requiring minimal team effort other than maybe the kiting the champ over mines or separating players into 25 in each lane. Other than that its mostly kill whats in front of you, don’t stand in the red, win.
People whine to much, good thieves
Part of the problem is you are generally kicked before you even played as good thieves are few and far between. A subpar of war or guard can easily out do the average thief in dungeons and pvp. I generally just run with guild groups as they know I won’t be the one dieing.
In any game with a stealth class they call the stealth OP. Its the nature of being able to turn invisible and disengage because inherently the class is squishy as hell and people want the free kill.
A thief without stealth dies insanely fast like 1 guardian pull and whirl will take 80% health if they don’t have stun breaker available. Most classes can burst a thief down if they don’t enter stealth or evade spam their burst but when we do we get called OP because their burst didn’t kill us.
Thieves can enter stealth about every four to five seconds since they have a four second reveal if they attack from stealth and a second to get back into stealth. Its not wise on initiative to multiple heart seeker black powder anymore so most are only staying in one round which is four seconds of stealth traited before attacking to get some regen, condition removal, or might if they are traited for stealth benefits.
The best thing for thief is to stealth w/ cloak n dagger or black powder + heart seeker, get some stealth benefits for three seconds, and pop back out and attack for four seconds before re-entering stealth. This is about our only way to stay alive as thieves are squishy as hell unless using p/d troll build or evade build that isn’t much of a threat. THIEVES ARE A HIT AND RUN CLASS, don’t expect them to play like warrior and try to face tank you.
They can still be attacked in stealth so if your melee keep cleaving you will probably nick them once or twice and its wise to strafe away from them so they can’t back stab you. I think about the max we can pull off now with shadow refuge + blinding powder + black powder and heart seekers is around 24-28 seconds in stealth but use all our cd’s and become essentially useless. Only a bad thief would do this.
Class : teef
1) one shot eles
2) condi engi
3) necros
Eles shouldn’t be on your list as thief… dodge burst they unload and you win lol
Honestly as a thief I don’t have a problem with to many warriors. Good ones maybe but the ones that drive me crazy are the bunker warriors w/ healing signet. They have so many blocks and invulns its difficult for even two people to down them. Bunker guardian has nothing on a bunker warrior.
People just do it to get the 10 points from contesting it and/or 10 points from capturing it. Makes them look better on the score board. They could be used somewhere else but in hot join just chop it up to a noob. If its happening in tournies then they need to be told.
I usually tell them apart by setting them as my initial target (control +t,) then you only have to worry about decoy or stealth whiping it and get your target back by their movement or attack speed.
I play a mesmer often and the glory buff sucks as it shows you. Makes the nubs know you faster but don’t matter for experience players.
You can sidestep that kitten and people are complaining about it lol
^ This for sure. Even if they use a knockdown on you, stun break it and get out of the circle, when the circle is gone proceed to kill the ele like normal in 2-3 seconds.
As for the mesmer clones… isn’t that kind of the point though? I mean, they are meant to confuse you of the location of the real mesmer. I’m okay with mesmer peripherals being shown on the map, but like others in this thread it would, certainly, be rather alarming if Necromancer minions and Ranger spirits counted as red dots on the mini-map…
This 100% agree.
I know there is only one map with a point underwater and one where there is really no reason to fight in the water… but…
Is there any plan to balance underwater combat? This is something I haven’t heard much of but some classes are just terrible underwater while others dominate.
Terrible = Ele and thief
I know they are terrible pve and pvp side underwater. I do not know much about the others but I primarily play thief or mesmer in pvp and mesmer does great underwater while on my thief I avoid it or die.
People max it using ectos and selling back the dust to minimize losses though you will still lose something like 30% cost per ecto. Magic find makes your drops noticeably better but won’t really affect your chances of getting a precursor or anything super valuable from it, that’s just dumb luck as most drop from chests or mystic forge. You will see more yellows in your travels though.
So it appears their whole intent is invalid with the changes, build diversity is not changing. Eles will put in atleast 20 into arcane like they already do and it seems the same in water. Doesn’t seem to be anything exciting in this patch for a class that is the weakest of all the classes in pvp at the moment.
Big Tower, would you mind explaining the acronyms in “C&D -> BS -> AA” for me? Thanks.
Cloak & Dagger (#5), Back Stab (#1 in stealth), Auto attack until revealed is off.
Very good dmg but has position requirements while some other classes have steadier damage because of no position requirement.
I leveled using gs / staff when I was brand new to game. You take less dmg when your inexperienced and get a decent aoe. If you think you are good in melee s/p or s/f is better.
At your level for skill points going down the dueling crit line to 20 to get clone dodge helps alot.
Warrior has been powerful since launch and atm is crazy OP when played right. They are making slight changes but they will still be very powerful in december and after reading the patch notes I don’t see anyone moving past them yet.
Taking 10% health off an ele is like 1.5k-2k dmg. So any class can do that with 1 skill, maybe 2 in a condition build. You won’t be safe for long. I feel that Ele is getting nerfed this patch with the changes in arcane line, we are already terrible with no meta in spvp and now we are even worse.
Honestly the only thing I hate is moving renewing stamina to master, keep it adept and ele will be in a good place.

I am having a hard time understanding why thieves are getting nerfed. I play the s/d build and it is the only thing that keeps you alive against wars, necros, and spirit rangers at the moment. The others aren’t getting hit this hard.. I really hope they don’t break sword, its change makes it useless in pvp as the shadowstep keeps you alive against the infinite cc wars hit you with.
Also even though no one uses p/p this makes unload even worse.
The way warrior has been for so long makes me rage :/
The problem with warriors is a bad player can be good playing a warrior, a good player will be insanely OP on a warrior.
The current warrior meta allows for insane healing, good dmg, and CC. Whats not to love about that? They get everything and Anets baby never gets nerfed. Anet knee jerk nerfs the other classes when they get to strong, but slowly cuddles the warrior down..
If you don’t have poison against these “regen” warriors then just go to another point, you won’t kill him unless your lucky or he was bad.
Did any of you go back to the beginning after dropping it? We always go back in groups and get a new one.. the hammer respawns where the first boss dies.
Not really an exploit to res a mesmer through a wall. You can res through any thin wall or door generally, just something anet needs to fix. This has long been a frowned upon strat in wvw that probably won’t be addressed. I know I check the gates on keeps for dead players who aren’t leaving then your stuck camping them knowing the game they are going to play.
I don’t think anyone seriously thinks an elementalist is good or even close to good in pvp right now. When I am on my thief or mesmer and I see an ele at a point or running I think to my self no danger, easy kill. It don’t matter if they are a better player than I, the class is squishy even in their “bunker” build which is half of what a warriors survivability is.
I personally have a dreamer on my thief and would love if I could turn the unicorn shooting off or back to the old rainbow stars which weren’t quite as annoying. I like the thief trick shot arrow look better but like my footprints. Sometimes I think about giving it to my ranger and getting aether or something. I love incinerator though, don’t need to turn anything off on that
Thieves are pretty good in PvE for damage. They aren’t exactly support other than stealth can assist with res or skipping. Thieves do some of the best damage in the game though and can be hard to kill in dungeons if played right.
I’m not overly-concerned about it because, as many Rangers have pointed out, “Sic ’Em!” is still a lackluster skill that would require them sacrificing another, better utility. However, the fact it’s an unavoidable counter to an entire traitline was a kitten design.
The tooltip for Shadow’s Embrace—condition removal every ten seconds—smacks of Smiter’s Booning. “Nerf that trait so hard that it will be practically useless, and no Thief will ever dream of bringing it along.” This was especially disappointing, since Roy Cronacher specifically mentioned that they wanted to take baby steps in balancing to avoid over-nerfing—at least in regards to the Warrior.
Color me surprised.
I and many others have always said Anet seems to favor warriors. They rarely nerf them at all and if they do its baby steps. They generally buff them when they have been a very strong class since launch and only seem to be getting better.
Sic’em is a 4s revealed on 40s CD.
If I were you, I’d be more worried about the Shadow’s Embrace nerf the dev accidentally showed in the tooltip (condi removal every 10s in stealth instead of 3s).
LOL, if thats true then I’m very very kittening worried.
I agree if this is true I will be very displeased as its our only way to survive all those condition builds in pvp. This will make us pretty squishy in a pvp setting.
Let’s wait until tomorrow for this one – if they toned down condi spam, then a toning down of Shadow’s Embrace makes sense. It only doesn’t make sense if condi’s remained untouched, and we don’t know anything on that front yet. This could be a testing holdover on whatever build they’re playing as well.
In the video he did that condition spam with a necro, it didn’t look very toned down :P
Umm.. a thief can immob you for 3 seconds with that shot before running out of ini.. then venom (if anyone plays a venom build) 5 or so more seconds. I Don’t know if many will play venom builds as they are low dmg and doing a thieves guild burst with it is only ever three minutes…
Thieves may be hit hard this patch.. when they moused over thief remove condition every 3 seconds while in stealth trait it said every 10 seconds… that is a hell of a nerf and thieves will die to condition builds easily.

Sick’em is not a threat. This is because it has to be put on before you go into stealth and will not interrupt your current stealth. This means a ranger will have to anticipate stealth or set up a burst by using it first but we will just dodge their following burst. The problem will be if they decide to buff it.
Pretty much ele dmg remains low, you still die easy, and you may see bunker staff eles in pvp again but thats a big maybe.
I prefer d/d as most fights are melee, if I have to go ranged I use staff as s/d requires you to get close sometimes for burst. D/D with a fresh air build or auramancer will do way more damage than staff with alittle less party support.
Well you need the dodge trait out of acrobatics and the init on crit out of precision line.. then with S/D you can do alot of evades. The high initiative recovery S/D build is kind of popular in tpvp atm as you very hard to hit.
So here is how Anet usually balances things. If your not a warrior (my little hatred to how powerful they have been since launch) and you were OP (our d/d was awesome for a while) then they will nerf you to the ground and rebuild you months later making you weak until they decide how they want to fix you.
Often times they do sort of a knee jerk reaction and over buff or over nerf classes which sometimes works in your favor and sometimes not. Most classes get their time to shine with the OP builds but eventually get that knee jerk reaction to below par. At the moment if your really skilled with ele you can do ok, average player on ele compared to other classes though is a joke.
Here is the truth.. Rangers are fine other than pets / spirits die insanely quick in PvE. In sPvP they do great with certain builds and in WvW they do pretty good.
Rangers do awesome damage single target but lack in the aoe department unless your going melee.
The rangers really need a pet takes 50% less aoe or something which will help alot.
Many people that play rangers are TERRIBLE and you can usually spot them easily (use bear in dungeon or similar pet…) These people give the low % of good rangers a bad name and therefor sometimes you may be insta-kicked from a group simply for being a ranger upon joining. Play what you enjoy as rangers kick kitten solo but if your a big grouper do it with friends or you may get burned a few times from people not giving your class a chance.
Well its used for leveling your ascended crafting as its 100 per brick. If you have leveled all 400-500 lvl crafts then save some for if we need it for armor.
The two “OP” warrior builds atm are very hard for mesmers to kill if the warrior is competent. You probably won’t be able to beat him, especially without something to lower his healing.
Almost makes me want to go into a “Warriors pretty much OP since launch” thread about how they call them balanced but bring no other class to their standard :P
IF you can get a wonderful mesmer they can port to each panel an all four can get it. You just have to find a mesmer that has it or don’t care about achievements.
I don’t think you guys are doing this right. I have done this 3 times in groups now and the way I did it worked each time. We would pull the 4 pack vets closest to us, then the middle 4 pack, then the end 4 pack by the boss. The other 16 or so on the far side we keep up.. pull the boss to the corner by the pipes and fight him there. We have wiped doing it and gone back to try again and had people downed at end and just ressed them before going to kill the vets. Kill boss, then kill the other half the vets, gg achievement. I hope this helps.
(btw the adds don’t follow you to the corner.. you may have 1-3 initially and you can kill them if you want but they usually run back to their spots.)
Since they are making it one boon I believe they should reduce it back down to 1 initiative to. Boons are powerful in pvp and make engineers and guardians very hard to kill while warriors do tons of damage because of their various boons.
Thieves aren’t exactly powerful in pvp, atleast nothing like warrior or necro at the moment so I really hope they don’t nerf us again, as all we ever get is nerfs.
What achievements are you specifically talking about? If its completion of the zone be sure you wait until the timer runs out. The honey / stump was comes directly after kill. The shop ones come directly after finding the shops.
You should be able to start world two by talking to the cloud just like world one. I am not sure if its a requirement to complete normal mode but have you?
We pretty much farm teq on JQ fairly easily. The only problem imo is overflows. It takes hours to get out of overflow into the regular map so you have people actually wanting to kill the boss. Most the overflows are full of afks.
Error code 7:11:3:191:101
I only get this in frostgorge when attempting the champion farm and experience high load times for waypoints. I used to run this pre- sab patch but now I get dc’d or it lags way way down every time I try to attempt the farm.
This only happens in frostgorge as I can run any of the events in other zones with hundreds of people and not get lag.
