Question. I haven’t started the new story yet, but will the behavior that is happening prevent me from completing the story? Blocking achieving some other non story or post story achievement?

Don’t worry, it doesn’t effect the story instances in any sort of a way. In fact, you’ll be glad by the number of groups in LFG for story achievements.

Ah, alright. Thank you very much for that clarification, lordkrall!

I’ve looked up Glint on GW2 Wiki and I saw that Destiny’s Edge group advised with her before her death, and the cave we went to is where Destiny’s Edge met her initially.

I can see the egg being important in the future, since it might just be something that Glint left before dying to the master of piece.

Thank you! The story and the overall Glint history is much more clearer now

[Spoilers] Question about Glint

MasterKitty.8205

In the end of the episode, Glint reaches for an egg. Now, I have been playing GW1 only a little bit, when my friend borrowed me his account just before GW2 came out, so I’m a little sloppy when it comes to the lore.

So a lot of my guildies and the community in general got hyped (even Marjory and Kasmeer!) when they saw Glint reaching for the egg, but my reactions were pretty much stuck.

So, can anyone fill me in? Is that one of the elder dragons? Can someone put me up with the lore about it?

By the way, the update was a huge success, it was one of my favorite updates since I bought the game, the new map is fantastic!

MasterKitty.8205

I deleted about 20-30 lvl40+ characters and rerolled the same class just because I didn’t like what race the class was, or I noticed a flaw in his looks.

I once had an 40 minute AFK guild member during a fractal run and proposed to kick him so we invite a random until the AFK member comes back. The guild members didn’t want to go through it. (thank God!)

I killed more rabbits than I could count. And I never regretted.

I left my previous guild because I wanted to play solo for a while, but another former guildie proposed to make a guild of our own, which I agreed just because I felt bad saying no. It’s a medium sized guild now, but I still want to quit it and play solo.

I once entered a party that said “Do not enter!” in LFG.

I hate people that sell solo Arah dungeon runs, not because they take gold, but because I wish I could do it.

Once I entered a SE party with a description “6k+ only…” (I did have 6k+), subtly let the team die at about 10-20% of bosses, being the only survivor (sometimes finishing the bosses off) and flaming the party members with arguments such as “This team is the real proof that AP doesn’t represent skill”.

Every time I log in, I check an online status of a member that blocked me 2 months ago and an ANet dev. I don’t know why.

I rarely make PvE/dungeon builds. I make roaming builds and just switch to according weapons if needed. Rarely do I change traits/sigils.

I want to delete my main (ranger) norn and reroll it a charr.

I once killed a quaggan.

I say that I don’t want to create a legendary weapon because I don’t see a use for it, but in reality, I don’t because I’m always broke.

My first ranger build was full signet bearbow. But now that I moved from that I curse every bearbow I see by explaining them that it’s a very bad thing to do. I get upset when they don’t listen to me (90% of situations).

Several times I told people I had AR, while I didn’t, hoping they wouldn’t notice. I worked more than I’m proud noting.

I once did SE p2 with a guild group of underlevels (60-70). It was the funnest dungeon run I had, since we did it how the dungeon was supposed to be done (well over an hour, though). I got a mini from them afterwards.

I hate people posting legendaries in LA map chat.

I love Scritt… Not the good ones.

I hate it that I always hear about an exploit right after ANet hotpatches it. (Halloween included)

That was relieving! ^^

I main a ranger for a year now, and I can tell you that they are indeed a good pick. Just remember 3 things:

1. Pets are stupid alone, be their brain… lots of people complain that rangers are “handicapped” with their pets not doing their functions dynamically. But in truth, you’re the one who’s controlling it. A pet alone will only do so much (auto attack and that one skill every time it’s off cooldown). Although sadly pets won’t still move from AOE, when they’re already returned to the player, but they take decreased AOE damage by default. Use F2!

2. Learn the class, don’t rely on your pet too much. Soo many people do this, take a bear and a bow and just shoot from afar while the bear takes the damage, but in team fights and PvP everyone hates those since enemies turn out to be harder (bear dies), so ranger dies as well, and they usually turn out not saving anyone downed when and if needed.

3. RANGEr does not mean range all the time. Just remember that melee weapons and skills are also powerful.

Why are we still playing?

MasterKitty.8205

Why wouldn’t I play the game? ^^ Even after 1.5 years of playing, I’m still not even close to bored of the game. I still want to master all classes, get better in PvP, get into commanding in WvW, know more about the lore, build a legendary or two (yea, I am a “bird”), I still love my awesome guildies etc, and the craziness, as well as the niceness that they have.

Just because you have opinion X, does not mean everyone has, nor should have, that same opinion X.

The devs are (in my opinion), very nicely doing their jobs. They do listen to the comunity, but they simply put what we want in a distant future, simply because the near future is already reserved. I just think too many people take devs changes for granted. GW2 changed a whole lot this year, I’m just sayin’.

I’m actually pretty new to the thief, but finally after a long while I decided to make one as I like their quick gameplay style in PvP and WvW (roaming part). From PvE, I started to like the dagger/dagger combination though, since it just feels fluid and smooth – this is with a swappable shortbow combination.

To stop confusing – what I’m interested in, is there any viable dagger/dagger build for PvP and/or WvW roaming? (in your opinion) Is the weapon combination overall OK? Why yes, why not etc.

I’m a GW2 player for a year now and I always have something to do, so I guess classifying the game as boring or fun is more on a personal level. I’ve seen people who didn’t see the potential in the game and quit it in a month.

The game is still different from the traditional MMO’s in some aspects, just like before. Depending on when you quit playing, some content changed, some didn’t. A lot of the class mechanics changed recently, a lot of content was added etc.

No emotions evolved, I think you did everything wrong within the unwritten rules of PvP. Not counting that you’re new with the game (that’s perfectly fine), but you refused to learn the aspect of the game and pretty much gave your life away, giving the other team additional points, with the addition of being AFK afterwards.

Now, I really never do insult people in PvP, no matter what, but as a player who does play that part of GW2 a lot, I can say right away that such situation would anger me as well.

But how did you enter sPvP by accident? You have to walk through the portal (or through the icon, which makes you even more aware of your actions), walk through the tutorial, enter the roster and apply for it. I’m wondering how did you go through all of that without giving a few minutes of attention as to what you’re entering?

The founders of the guild are Mighty and Terrible and Spearminttrooper, but the current leader of the guild is Guitarburnsy together with his officers.

What we can offer to do with you is:

  • Crazy great fun on our private teamspeak channel with our friendly guild community,
  • All of the guild missions on a weekly level,
  • All of the PvE content,
  • PvP and WvW runs,
  • Occasional fun challenges,
  • Friday Arah drinking games etc.

But we only hold 3 rules from the moment the guild was made, and they work great:

  • You have to represent 100% (personal guilds for bank storage don’t count),
  • You have to be a member of the Seafarer’s Rest server and
  • Everyone gets along!

Being that Guild Wars 2 is going to be free for 1 week, starting tomorrow. How does that impact WvW. Will those new players be able to enter WvW? I feel like they should’ve done this after the tournament, since you only have 2 solutions/outcomes now:

1. They won’t allow them to go to WvW, hence stop spying, but not showing the new players the full GW2 experience.
2. They allow WvW, but then you’d have a lot of old members creating accounts to spy on other servers.

Or I’m missing something and Arena Net already thought about this?

Dueling in gw2! Remember?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: MasterKitty.8205

MasterKitty.8205

The problem with dueling is, it wont be skill based or competitive.
Because the player who has the best PvE gear and access to all traits and skills will have an advantage to change tactics against the player who doesn’t.

Most people I know who take PvP seriously wont duel anyways, unless it’s in the sPvP arena where all players are truly equal in terms of having access to everything they need to strategies against their opponent.

You make it sound like getting access to all traits and skills is hard o_O

^-^ My bad…
What I’m trying to say is, most PvP players I know only care about competitive PvP in equal grounds that they wont care about getting all that stuff from PvE in the first place. It can be very hard for a PvP player to play PvE contents he/she does not enjoy.

There for, dueling already happens in t-PvP arenas because of the accessibility to get right into the game rather than having to play contents you might not like just to do one that you do.

Not sure if that helped clear what I was saying or not.

Edit: And the fact that anyone can do that, kinda means it’s pointless to add dueling, is what Im getting at.

Very true when you want to test out skills.
However, sometimes it has happened that I want to check if my gear is good enough for WvW roaming, for instance. There should be an option that would allow us to test out our gear with our guildmates, for instance.
Only because, once you go to WvW to actually roam. Not only will your gear count, but also your very gameplay.

I do agree with your point. Skill > Gear. But gear still counts for it self somewhat, so I wouldn’t let go of the option to ‘test out our gear’ with our guildmates or randoms or whoever.

If you want some advanced gameplay you should go either Mesmer or Elementalist. Necromancer is one of the easier classes to play.

But yet some people are saying how necros are in terrible place in WvW, yet I know for a fact that I never like dueling one while roaming, nor do I like seeing many of them in zerg vs zergs. Are they one of those easy, yet strong classes, or are they ‘easy to learn, but hard to master’?

So, since the season 2 is under its way, I’m thinking of a new beginning. I’m leaving my ranger and my pet, Doge, behind and starting a new lass to enjoy the world of GW2 with. But which one?

I’m thinking of going light armor for a change, so it’s definetilly either a mesmer, or a necro, or an elementalist.

My question, and I guess the discussion is, how well do those classes work in PvE, PvP and WvW? What are their pros and cons? Why is one class above the other in some part of the game.

No info is too much or too little. Just put in your opinions ^^

Collaborative Development: Ranger Profession

in CDI

MasterKitty.8205

Alright, idk if this will be noticed or anything, but due to my true love for the class, I guess it’s just fair to give my 2 cents about what I think is and isn’t wrong with them in general.

First of all, please ANet, I know a lot of people are suggesting it, but do not make the ‘permastow’ available. Even with the current form, I love pets and I love that they make us what we are. The pet AI could use some work in the point where it should avoid already active AOE circles instead of walking through/into them, or to get out of them if one is placed apon them with the press of a button from the player, but the general idea of these pets following you, listening to you, opening so much diverse ideas for you is what made me play this class and really stick to it in all parts of the game.

Now aside from that, rangers are a class and should stay a class that is efficent through reflexes. The effectivness with long range with the combination of ‘aerobic’ melee really makes the general gameplay of the very ranger very interesting. When it comes to traits, considering the very ranger, we’re missing a little bit of sustain, but I just can’t see us in that bad of a place. Again, I like the number of evasions available to us in melee, which makes us very agile and reflex-dependent.

Now, to the pets. The F2 should get fixed in the sense that it sometimes delays a little bit (probably because those skills have to reach the server first?). I’m not sure about the ‘pet racial’ spells, I’m not negative about us, I just don’t want them to be anything too strong. I, persionally, also like challenge, so giving us something too strong would obviously make me loose interest in the class. Again, I’m not negative about it, but if you’re considering it, just try not to make them too powerful.
On the other hand, the AI should be tweaked quite a bit. That’s the only thing that can irritate me about rangers as a class sometimes. Having the pet near you and pressing F3 to move position because it’s in an AOE, but it doesn’t because it registeres their ‘master’ near them can get frustrating.
I won’t go into what should specificly be done, I’m in no means an expert in game designing, but just throwing my 2 cents out at how it should be twaeaked in general.
If pets could register AOE while walking towards the enemy while not standing in it and either walk around the ‘red circle’, until the AOE is over instead of going through it would probably help. Ofc that’s a double edged sword, since some AOE’s aren’t that strong, but at least it may stop our pets from dying in WvW zergs so fast.
If the pet however is standing on an AOE, could we get a button that would make the pet aware of the AOE thrown at them?
I would also like the idea of pets giving our rangers some ‘message’ about being ‘almost dead’. I don’t mean like speak or anything, but maybe when, for instance, the wolf is at about 25% HP it could leave a sound or some other indicator that aknowledges the player that he should retrieve/swap the pet. It’s not something that just HAS TO BE IMPLEMENTED, but it’s those little ‘helping’ things that would make the players experience a lot smoother in my opinion.
I agree that sometimes 1 skill per pet seams a little weak, but, again, I’m very neutral about adding another one.

Again, I love your guys/galls work. I love the rangers. I think it would just be fair of me to throw my 2 cents out there. Whatever you do is fine by me in general. The only thing that I think would be ‘classbreaking’ for me is if you made the pets permastow-able.

Good luck!

You need to stand on the color circles. Don’t AFK, that’s purely idiotic, but does it really cost that much to just switch one of your weapons to a power one for just that little bit untill you allow condi on it.

Don’t you people like at least some challenge? Later you would complain how there’s no challenge..

Just take the challenge on, play a little, have a good laugh and enjoy the game. You don’t have to be a hardcore MMO player to take on a little challenge.

I really really really really hope they never do this.

I swear, if they implement the option for us to completely make the pet gone until told so, I’m switching the class.

Guys, just take some time and concetrate 10% more than you do, the pet AI isn’t perfect and ofc it could use some fixing and twitching, but it’s not that bad.

If you don’t have the willpower, or simply don’t like pets in general, I’m real sorry, but this class simply isn’t for ya. I’m not trying to drag you off, but pets, as unperfect as they are, make us what we are. It’s the pet management that wins the fights with rangers. Again, sorry, I know you won’t just go ahead and accept my opinion, but it is what it is, and I just have to put my 2 cents out that this is by all means wrong..

Not to mention the number of players who would turn off their pets and pretty much never activate them, never even realizing they deal 70 or less % of their dmg.

Ranger Question - Power

in Ranger

Posted by: MasterKitty.8205

MasterKitty.8205

It’s discussable, of course, just like anything in GW2, but I’d say that investing in beastmastery is a good thing – more for WvW, rather than PvE.

At first, when playing ranger I always thought like ‘’Pff, pet lives and dies, does damage while alive, the more the better bla bla who cares’’. This of course just led me to deaths.

I’ve around 900 hours of gameplay on my ranger, maining it, I love roaming in WvW, but also doing as much as I can in PvE, and from my experience I can just say that investing trait points on your pet is – well, OK.

What that means is that it’s not like ‘’OH YEA YOU DEFF NEED TO DO THAT!’‘, but if you do invest around 10-20 points there, it will more than pay off – again more in WvW for roaming, rather than PvE. You would be shocked how many players just don’t notice the pets and when they do, simply don’t know what they do. Just for instance, I invested my points on a trait so swapping my pets is faster and their F2 is recharged faster. So I was roaming in WvW and in the centaur land I saw a necro around 50 meters away from me. So I started preparing my self and all, but I see 2 more enemies coming from the sides around 20 meters away from me, so I use my wolf to send it to them, the necro ofc didn’t even notice him, use F2, wolf scares all 3 of them (I was lucky there though, I’ll admit), start running the oposite side, I’ve no speed boost, but I can quickly switch to my dog and put freeze on them with F2. Only by this constant switching and quick regeneration of F2, did I manage to seperate some warrior from that little group (the other 3 saw that as simply useless chase, I guess) and in the end kill him.

Like everything else, it’s situational, but just as a persional experience, it’s a smart investment. (Even in PvE, since for instance AOE scare from wolf can be OP at times)

That said, I love how hard they are to play if you REALLY want to pull out their maximum. How you’re playing for 2, you AND your pet.

To make it clear, the forum has always been and always will be negative to rangers, but in my eyes they are not near to underpowered.
People need to learn to control their pets before they just go out judging the class.

Playing rangers has made me nervous sometimes, going out, playing a mesmer or something, but in the end, there’s just something about these green fellas that draws you in ^^

I wonder if having someone on block list will prevent them from getting into your partly set up team in team queue. Because for the LFG tool if you block someone they can’t see any ads that you are in. Though LFG tool is newer so probably I should stop hoping.

Doesn’t cost to try ^^

Flipping the trading post is about the most boring thing you can do in game.
Not to mention the returns aren’t as big as you might think, and there’s a good chance you might even lose money.

And just curious, if you don’t have time to play (because every thing you do in game gives you money, directly or indirectly) how come you want a Sunrise? Just so? The bragging rights aren’t even there anymore, I never liked the skin, with them being as common as they are now theres nothing there.
As for stat change, as of now you can only do it to your weapon, and does anyone seriously uses more than 2 or 3 if not just 1?
I’m just asking because I honestly never got the appeal of a legendary in the first place, and now even less.

Well ofc he has a chance of loosing money as well. It’s like a stock market, buy low, sell high.

You can turn 1g into 2 if you do it smartly via TP, or you could even invest that money longterm. If you put, say 500 gold now in gems, it might bring up the gems to gold price in around a year. It, again, isn’t that much and is very situational. Chances are though, gem prices are going up. So I expect that if you spend 500 gold in gems now, in a year, they will probably be worth a little more when turned backwards (around 600 gems).

Again, I know it’s not a lot, compared to the waiting time, but there’s no ‘easy’ way to turn money if you’re not willing to take risks, so TP investments are, again, your best option, but keep in mind you have to do it smart and bald!

Where do I exactly report players?

I think it only applies to people that started AFKing from the beginning of the match.

It’s pretty sad, I know, but there isn’t a way to report that person because he didn’ really AFK the whole match, but simply from certain point.

He isn’t a bot, nor farming glory, but simply a bad teammate.

Luckily, there aren’t many players out there like that, so chances are ANet won’t react to it very drasticly (which imo is alright), but only if there would be too much of those cases, then ANet would get their attention, as in any game, I guess.

If you’re looking for PvE content, than Desolation is a recorder in some events (wurm, tequatl, whatnot), but if you’re mainly into PvP and WvW, I’d suggest my server, Saefarers Rest.

Pretty decent PvE community, but the server focuses on WvW (talking about SFR).

Welcome to Tyria.

Well, all classes really have their advantages and disadvatages, so you probably won’t find a straight answer here, BUT I can give you a little info about the classes when it comes to PvP.

HEAVY:

Warriors – Easiest to play and very forgiving. Since they build around condition resistance and CC resistance, a lot of your mistakes will be forgiven and you’ll almost always have second chances in fights. If you want to learn how to play Guild Wars 2 (PvP wise) in general, warrior holds the basics of all classes, so they’re your best bet.

Guardians – These guys can take a lot of damage. There is a reason why people love them in every part of the game (PvE, WvW, PvP). However they do require quite a bit of skill and just certain knowledge on how to use them.

MEDIUMS:

Rangers – My main PvE character ^^. A lot of people throw hate at them, sadly, but in PvP, they’re actually one of the strong ones, since spirits work well, as well as their signets if their trinkets of signet pet-owner sharing is enabled. However, if you choose them, keep in mind 2 things: 1. CONTROL YOUR PET! I can’t stress this enough. Pets AI isn’t perfect, that’s true, but that isn’t an excuse to not control them and use their potential. You’d be surprised what you can do with those; 2. Just because they’re called rangers, doesn’t mean they should be in range all of the time

Thieves – Again, very forgiving, but not as strong as you would think. Thieves are usually ‘newbie hunters’, because it always takes a while for players to figure out how the stealth system works in their games and how to detect them. Nowadays, for me, it’s easy to guess where the thief would go after going to stealth. It’s just something that comes in time. Does that mean that thieves are bad against veterans? Not even close. A good thief can, again, use some crazy combos that takes a lot more than just intuition and skill to detect and counter!

Engineer – Currently OP in PvP, imo. They rely on tactics, rather than just pure skill use. They really kind of force you to position yourself right and time things right, but for those who learn to do those things. I’ll tell ya, I’ve seen these guys do wonders!

LIGHT:

Mesmer – When it comes to PvP, these ones are made to 1v1. I still think they’re the strongest out there in that point. However, you need to react right, since 1 error can cost you a lot. Newer players often fall for these guys as well, since they throw confusion on their enemies, which damages enemies whenever they use an ability/skill (even their autoattack), so new players not knowing that pretty much suicide fighting with them.

Elementalists – I haven’t player them much, but I can only tell you that times come when I attack them, their lifepool goes down so fast, but very often all they need is that 1 hit and it all goes down to hell. If you’re looking for a challenge, try them out.

Necros – Ever heard of a term ‘condition mancer’? Mesmers throw boons, these guys just turn them into conditions. There aren’t many of them out there, but I’ll tell you this: They aren’t wanted in PvE sadly (which I think is a mistake), BUT WvW folks are scared of them, as well as the PvP comunity. There always has to be a reason for that!

Wari0r, bcuz evry1 knuwz that rangers sux!!1

But on a more serious side..
I main a ranger and, although I really do love their mechanic and they truly ARE strong in their own way (though sadly I could describe them as a ‘Jack of all trades, but master of none’), DO NOT play them if you’re planning to just range it out with a bear and not assist your teammates or just not ever control your pet in general. Pets AI is stupid, sadly that’s a fact, but it doesn’t meen you should just let it sit around.

You need to play for the both of ya and once you master that, you’re on your way
