So What DOESN'T require a Mastery?

McNinja.5417

My fiance finally started going into the new areas and quickly realized that everything she wants to do requires a mastery first. Bouce on a shroom? Mastery. Use a shroom to run fast? Mastery. Make Fractals not give garbage loot? Mastery. Access vendors in new area? Mastery.

What doesn’t require a mastery now? Do players seriously have to grind out these ridiculous experience bars in order to access the content? I stopped playing a while ago, but was following HoT news and considered it until now. I have limited time since I’m studying almost constantly , and I don’t want to have to grind quests and whatnot in order to fully play the new content! It’s not a matter of not wanting to work, its a matter of the content I paid for being stuck behind a wall of experience bars.

That and its quite hard to solo. My fiance isn’t an expert player by any means, but kitten . Some of us don’t spend hours on end every day practicing our dodging or whatever it is that the top-tier-fractal-running players do. We just want to log on, relieve some stress, have a good time, and log off a couple hours later.

Made the key to open the mad king’s chest, but before the chest could be opened the mad king threw me into the mystic forge. I went back to try to open it again, and it used the key, but didn’t give me any rewards!

This is extremely frustrating. Please fix it, if not this year, then make sure it doesn’t happen again next year.

Orr should be remade

McNinja.5417

Yeah – Risen Wizards.

Killing Zhaitan didn’t get rid of his leftover minions. As long as they exist, they are a literal blight on the landscape. The foulness of their corruption is not eco-friendly.

Sure, the source of that corruption is gone. And the Source of Orr is purified. But the land needs time to heal.

And even if all remaining Risen were exterminated and burned tomorrow, do you really think that using magic to replace the plants is the best idea? Let the land recover on its own. If you want nature to recover, then let it recover naturally. (I really do like the idea of a potential post-Zhaitan “Source of Orr” instance, showing the earliest signs of this. Perhaps if a story instance in the future ever takes place there?)

In the theoretical world of Guild Wars 3, I expect Orr to be a thriving nation once more. And in the central plaza of Arah, there will be two statues: One to the hero who put an end to the source of the corruption, and one to the scholar who enabled the land to begin healing. (I know most of you don’t like him, but he does deserve credit for his own deeds, and at least he never took credit for ours, unlike certain gods I know.)

The land doesn’t need time to heal. Anet can heal it as fast as it wants. Zhaitan is dead. The source is purified.

The issue with Orr is that me and several thousand other people have continuously killed kitten near everything on Orr multiple times. Use phasing to segregate those who haven’t finished the story and those who have. There is no reason whatsoever (outside of bullkitten game logic to make us do the same tired kitten over and over again) that Orr would still have this many undead. By this point in-game my character has murdered the entire population of Orr multiple times. How are there still undead left?

Answer: there aren’t, Anet is just lazy and wants us to keep doing the same stupid chains over and over because they can’t come up with a good way to fix Orr.

Warhorn is useless (unless they somehow made it main hand instead).

We can’t make claims like that until we have seen the blog and the livestream at the end of the week. So if, after the blog and livestream, the skills are mediocre, then yes we can call it useless.

It just makes me frown a little whenever I see people making assumptions about things they haven’t seen the details for yet.

It’s not that people think warhorn skills are bad – it’s bad because Elementalists already have two outstanding off-hands in the dagger and focus. They didn’t need or want another offhand.

Really not impressed by something that will in the many puns that are now going around “blow”, I know myself as an ele player and many other ele players, that sword would have been much more appreciated for the class and would have complemented it more as the reason being that the legendary sword would have looked nice on an ele. But yea meh warhorn I really don’t see the value or niche of a warhorn atleast I know one elite spec I won’t be using.

You have no idea what the skills are, the change to the class mechanic or anything besides the weapon type and you have made a judgement saying you dont see its value or anything and it blows? welll…ok…

A lot of people simply don’t like the look of the warhorn. It can have the greatest god-stats in the world, but if it looks like crap I won’t be using it.

You don’t get it, but I still don’t understand how you’re so confused.

I’m not complaining about being unable to trait and equip gear properly, I’m complaining about all of the options being way worse by comparison than what other classes have.

Seriously, what part of it is confusing you? I’m not sure if I can simplify this any further.

Anet is in the Beta stages, and are making adjustments as we go. We’re still a month or two before HoT release, and I have full confidence in Colin’s ability to give us the best game possible.

I admit there can be a few tweaks here and there. But overall, it’s a learning experience. Revenant is new, so let the players test out builds before determining the new meta is useless. To me, it doesn’t make sense to copy and paste mechanics from existing professions. Anet wanted to think outside the box, and give us a new type of profession to mix up combat.

I swear to kitten that if this is what we’re at TWO MONTHS before full release, we’re completely kittened. Aside from the fact a game should be going gold, not having disappointing beta’s, at this time in its production lifecycle.

By the end of this weekend, the hardcore players will know for certain if the current iteration of the Revenant is garbage. So far, most signs point to “yes.”

While yes, it was nice for ANet to clarify what they would be doing for the next expansions, but they clearly failed to come up with a solution or even understand the actual issue – that is, that people don’t want to pay for things they already have.

Let’s assume that 3 years from now another expansion comes out, giving us, the core GW2, HoT, and Expansion2. What they should do pre-expansion is sell all three separately (to get the people who don’t pay attention; sorry but it works), sell all 3 as a bundle with the core and HoT discounted, and finally just sell expansion3 separately.

It’s not hard. It really, really isn’t.

I never tried to get a Portal (since my luck is abysmal), but this really doesn’t seem like a proper beta test. It’s far more like a limited preview of the game. I’m not 100% on the details, but you can’t explore or find many bugs if you’re limited to 2 hour blocks…

“Testing will begin on May 26, and will run in 2 hour blocks with breaks between each block. The schedule is as follows:

11:30 a.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7) to 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-7)

It also kind of seems like a slap in the face to the people who worked for entire days of playtime grinding and farming for one.

The dragon part of the name just tells you what they hunt/why

So does every single player. That is literally the point of the entire game for every player without exception.

Hunting Dragons is not special, and a hunter class/profession is already fully covered by the Ranger. That is my problem with the name, and indeed everyone who hates the stupid name has the same issue.

If the Dragonhunter spec shot dragon claws or teeth as projectiles, blew dragonfire, and has skills that has dragon-like animations, that would be better and more relevant to the name, but at the same time, how is that relevant to the Guardian profession?

It isn’t. That’s the issue. No fake story you make up about how they’re somehow better at hunting dragons than my warrior or necromacer will change how absurd the name is and how little the name has to do with the base profession.

Remember, Dragonhunters are basically Witchhunters, everything makes a lot more sense if people stop being so literal with the name which is where most of the issue is coming from.

Why on earth would be NOT be literal with the name? Dragon Hunting has all of nothing to do with the themes, ideas, or profession of Guardians. It’s a bland name that doesn’t have anything to do with… anything! It’s a name better suited for someone from Destiny’s Edge or a member of the Pact since they’ve… you know, hunted actual dragons? It’s not unique because every. single. player. has hunted dragons.

If Dragonhunters are so similar to Witchhunters, why not just call them witchhunters?

You forget the taxes.

Unless you are rich enough, you are not exempt of taxes. Apply taxes each year, and unless you are rich enough to simply be exempt from taxes (laws are made by rich for the rich, after all, so 80% of the taxes are paid by those with less than 20% of the wealth), all you have will be cut each year until there’s nothing. So the money can be used on corrupt schemes that redirect the money to the rich.

I don’t know where you live, but in the US, anything over $400,000 gets taxed at a 39.6% rate, plus some. in fact, the top 10% income earners (in the US) pay 70% of all federal income taxes (http://money.cnn.com/2013/03/12/news/economy/rich-taxes/ and http://www.heritage.org/federalbudget/top10-percent-income-earners) while the bottom 90% pays just 30% in taxes.

It doesn’t really need to make sense.

Pyromancy, Geomancer, Aeromancy, Hydromancy, Necromancy, etc those all existed in real life. People saying that they can community to god through fire, earth, air, water and death. But these term sound kitten, and that’s why they use them.

So, it’s ok if the name doesn’t make sense as long as it sounds cool? That changes the argument, then and Dragonhunter’s problem is not being vague, just bland.

Do you really give a rats butt what the name is?

After they showed us a teaser image prominently featuring Paragon-styled wings, and most people spent the last three days excited for Paragon, yes. There’s also a great many people who played Paragon in GW1 that now play Guardian in GW2. Adding to this, Guardian already has a great many elements of Paragon stuff in them (One of their PVP titles is even ‘Champion Paragon’), so when you show off the paragon wings in your teaser image, what are most people going to be looking forward to?

I’m at least willing to give the class a try, but EVERY player hunts the dragons, the pact hunts the dragons, the biconics hunt the dragons. Paragon is at least a unique name, Dragonhunter is hopelessly generic in this setting.

Then those people chose to focus on the wings, the flavour, and ignore the bow, the new weapon which would determine the playstyle. How could they be named paragon if their playstyle differs. Then there would be complains about false advertising and using a familiar name as bait.

Would you be ok if GW3 features a mesmer that plays like a warrior and wears masks?

Dragonhunter is absurdly general and cliche. It’s more like a ranger specialization than a guardian one. the name does not fit the profession in the least. You could have named it anything else relevant to the guardian class using the word “hunter” and it would have been fine. Not dragonhunter. It just sounds stupid.

The issue isn’t that we want to have our cake and eat it, it’s that the general has run out of cool armor. Anet makes a killing off the Gem Store. Put real armor in there and they’ll make up the labor costs. If they can handle labor costs, they’re in the wrong business.

The real issue with this game is incredibly apparent from level 1 with any character, but I’ll relate my charrs experience: my character does 26 damage to an ascalonian ghost. NPCs do about 1. Maybe. Why is that bad? Because it’s stupid. Are you just another soldier in the Legion or are you some special snowflake? Because you sure as hell aren’t special outside of the personal story.

It’s like Iron Man thinking he’s one of a kind and incredibly powerful, only to find that there’s about 425,000 others who are either the EXACT same as him or slightly different. You aren’t unique. You aren’t special. You aren’t the only one that’s killed zhaitan, and even if you were, it’s not like killing him changed anything. Orr is the same whether Zhaitan is alive or dead, and I assume Maguuma will be the same way.

2 accounts 2 different loot experiences

McNinja.5417

It is theoretically possible that they use some specific hash of a character data as a seed for random number generation involved in loot drop calculation.

It is such a big bug though that i can’t believe it was not located for such long time.

It has been said repeatedly by people that know far more that absolutely no information related to your account is used as a source of information in determining RNG. I dont know what else to tell you people beyond repeating that over and over. Hell, even if they disclosed the code revolving around the RNG, I doubt there’s many people on the forums would understand it. Frankly they’d probably be some of the people who are saying RNG is working fine.

It’s simple, and once you ignore confirmation bias (ie “I never get THE BEST HAXORZ loot therefore I cant remember, or wont admit, the great loot”), that outliers exist are proof of a working RNG system.

It’s human behavior to view things as “out to get me” like most people do about the RNG and loot.

Right. And Freddie Gray broke his own spine.

The point is that most people have such garbage luck with “RNG” that the only logical explanation is that it is somehow skewed against them. The fact that this is the case shows that RNG does not, has not, and will never work. People like rewards for the amount of time and energy the put into the game and it doesn’t matter if they have 5 hours a day or they have 2 kids and a full-time job and can spare barely an hour a day to enjoy the game. In the end, everyone’s time is valuable to them, and if you don’t properly keep them entertained and happy that their efforts are producing “tangible” (virtual) results, then they will migrate to other games that do so.

TLDR; RNG is stupid and people leave games because of it. I have and I have no problems doing so again.

Calm down dude. No one can say ANYTHING about the incoming balancing because literally every single number we saw may as well mean nothing. They joked that they probably should have just set every number to 5000. They’re going over traits and the general effect of them, not balancing numbers. That’s literally the easiest part.

As for why they felt “rushed,” they had to rush through every class. They went over their alloted time, so yeah, I’m sure they didn’t want to turn what was supposed to be a four hour stream into what could easily have been a six-hour.

As for any questions you had about AI changes, they were really only focusing on traits for this AMA, so of course they’re not going to completely change topics. You and anyone else worried about numbers/balance is foolish to do so. We still don’t know what it’ll be like when it ships. If you have any concerns other than “omg my class is a joke now,” such as the “spirit of your build being lost,” then make a post about it. Spreading anxiety on the forums does nothing.

Even if they set every number to 5000 it would be a joke of a game because at that point they don’t even care enough attempt to balance it.

As someone who is constantly has poor luck and gets all of nothing from randomized drops, I wonder if there can be other ways to obtain powerful, top-tier gear (legendaries/precursors, Ascended armor/weapons) without waiting for that chance 1 in 10,000 drop or waiting 6 months for finish that pair of pants because you can only make 1 bolt of whatever silk every fortnight. So my suggestion is…

Story dungeons, fractalized. Hear me out…

One problem I have with the current system is that it is incredibly shallow. Why can you only create 1 bolt of Damasque per day? Will you catch fire? Is it so intricate that it takes all day to maintain the level of skill needed to craft it? Because if so, that isn’t reflected in-game. Waiting for one of the Sunless weapons to drop from Tequatl is just as shallow. There’s no real challenge; with a decent group tequatl goes down pretty easily, and you’re still waiting every day to do it again to get that random drop. Why? Why not have 3 or 4 long, purposeful, dungeon/story events that are impactful to the character, award decent gear themselves, and cumulate in an epic battle that challenges each character willing to take the risk?

Take a Scale 50 fractal. If you do them regularly, you’ve spent how much time and gold getting that agony resistance and getting that armor so you can have agony resist in the first place? Shouldn’t that be worth more satistfaction than “oh man well we got Jade Maw again?” Sure, in a Dark Souls frame of mind they’re nothing more than challenges to overcome, but what if those challenges weren’t random, had story content related to the weapon or armor you’re trying to obtain, and lasted longer than 30 minutes?

I just think there should be the ability to get high-level gear aside from wasting time and energy on chance when you could do it for guaranteed rewards.

My fiance just now right-clicked on a stack of 250 Great Wintersday Bags and clicked “Use.” It opened 1 and deleted the rest. That should not happen.
