EDIT: Oh, and it REALLY doesn’t make people want to play together when an upleveled individual can rally a bunch of enemies just by being near you. That also makes ZERO sense.
So if you think that makes no sense why would you want to abolish downed state, which would make it happen much more frequently?
Wut?
No, with no down state there would BE no rally. Let alone by some upleveled 11 ranger that wanted to “tag along for exp”.
EDIT: I see what you are saying, what I meant is an uplevel taggin along with your group and getting killed thereby rezzing all the enemy you have downed. Sorry I worded it poorly.

I agree that Downed State should be removed. It just makes people want to blob up. No risk, same reward… that sucks for a game mechanic. I would assume that most of the people that design these games are reasonably intelligent. But this makes no sense. None, I mean I’d like to see one reasonable argument that shows how the downed state increases the playability/fun (for both sides) of this game. It simply doesn’t and anyone should be able to see that (again, from both sides).
It’s not like the map is large or anything.
I’m seriously considering dumping this game and moving to ESO because of this philosophy. ESO has a MUCH better mechanic for this and a small force has the ability to hold off a zerg through simple good play and attrition. Yes, you have to run/port back to the fight, but that is much more of a combined interactive (attackers/defenders) system where both benefit from strategy.
GW2 has always been Blobwarzzz. The reward system is made for it, and I hate it. Skill should be the deciding factor, not numbers.
EDIT: Oh, and it REALLY doesn’t make people want to play together when an upleveled individual can rally a bunch of enemies just by being near you. That also makes ZERO sense.

Without getting into a gear conversation I’d drop the 10 in Radiance and take 10 in Virtues. Inspired Virtues is great, and if you’re blasting your own light fields you can get 100%ish retaliation with Vengeful.
It’s really a waste to get just a 20% reduction on a single signet.

I’m not saying you should do this, just stating the math…
If you get a minimum wage job ($7.25/hour assuming you live in the US) then at current gem to gold rates ($0.53 per gold), ignoring taxes, you’d be able to get 13.67 gold per hour if you spent all of your profits on gems to gold. If you make that a $10/hour job, you could afford 18.86 gold per hour.
If you get each charged lodestone at 2.8 gold, it will cost 980 gold total. So…
[(Charged Lodestone cost) * (Charged Lodestones needed)] / [(hourly wage) / (cost of 1 gold in USD)] = (Hours of work required)
(2.8*350)/(7.25/.53) = 71.64 hours
If we assume you work at that job full time (40 hours per week) it will take you less than two weeks to get the gold you need.
tl;dr – A minimum wage, full time job can pay for 350 Charged Lodestones in under two weeks.
I like the way you think sir, well played.

Flashing blade and zealot’s defense both need tweaks in my opinion.
Flashing blade:
1. Needs to be a leap finisher…as 1h sword has zero ability to take advantage of a combo field.
2. Needs some reasonable damage…at least as much as an auto attack.Zealot’s defense:
1. Needs to be usable while moving.
2. Needs to be a projectile finisher.I think guardian’s have evolved past the point where everything offensively needs to be kitten because of our survivability…especially after this last patch with boon hate and attacks going through aegis.
+1’d this, these were my thoughts exactly.
Now Musty Britches since someone decided Shortbus Rider was offensive… [LoS] [NSP]
I heard its just something visual when killing some certain mobs. with incinerator, your enemy sometimes burn to death etc.
Ahhh, I think you’re probably correct. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks.
I can confirm this statement. I have Frostfang, and have experienced enemies displaying ‘cold’ death animations. Similarly, some enemies have unique fire or lightning death animations, and I assume those now show for bolt/incinerator/rodgort.
The change is merely visual as stated, and only changes the death animation of enemies you kill.
Thanks +1
Now Musty Britches since someone decided Shortbus Rider was offensive… [LoS] [NSP]
Seems pretty clear to me.
Now the weapons actually mention the damage type they already did. Eg mobs with fire resistance will get less dmg from rodgort.
Doesn’t seem clear to me at all since it clearly says visual effect only. But thanks anyway.

From the patch notes:
•Bolt, Incinerator, Rodgort, and Frostfang now have a base elemental damage type. Note: This is a visual change only.

However, in using Orrmaps I’ve come to find that a lot of the maps made simply are not reliable, in some cases because a new build came out and the maker of the map did not reset their map and has not updated it as of yet. I would recommend trying several of the Orrmaps on a particular server if the first one fails you.
Yep, this is what I do as well. Some of the maps are either old and not updated or just wrong.
Now Musty Britches since someone decided Shortbus Rider was offensive… [LoS] [NSP]
Yeah, so unfair using game mechanics everyone has access to. Who does that?
Yes, is is extremely unfair when guilds like SPCA, XOXO and PAXA run around with buffs. These guys run around in good groups filled with good players running good builds. These are the types of guys that do not have much issue in the vast majority of fair fights. I only stated that like a fact because they have some better players than me and I do alright. A large part of the point and fun in pretty much any game is in the challenge it provides and skill it requires; using buffs lowers both of those. What’s the fun in making it so good and close fights aren’t as close as they would have been? What skill does it take to nearly half conditions applied to you because you farmed some nodes or used the trading post?
It would be one thing if XOXO, SPCA and PAXA were the type of players that needed an extra edge, but they aren’t. Who cares if 98% of people in WvW use buffs? A lot of those people need an extra edge because they’re trash. I beat most people I fight anyway, but I should make the game less amusing by making all those fights easier? Every time I run into someone good I should take some of the fun away by making the fight easier? kitten that. Call buffs smart, fair or whatever. I’ll be the idiot that handicaps himself for better fights.
I’m probably not going to debate the subject beyond this post because I doubt any replies will be worth a response. I just hope I explained things better to some people.
It’s because those people you mentioned (and others) are normally fighting 3-1 or 5-1 odds. To say they shouldn’t use every available option to combat those odds is just asinine.
Now Musty Britches since someone decided Shortbus Rider was offensive… [LoS] [NSP]
On the other hand, we were disappointed that you guys were so bad that with at least 3x our numbers you didn’t manage to make a scratch on hills or even get to the gate. All you managed to do was hold one little tower and get farmed, having far more casualties on your side then ours every fail bomb you tried.
All I ever see xoxo do is sit outside towers and wait for the lemmings to go over the walls.
It’s pointless defending a tower against xoxo because they just sit there. They have no real intention of taking it. Sometimes they set up a cat so they can farm people suiciding it. Half the time they don’t even fire the cat.
Usually they sit there so long that a passing SF Zerg chases them away.
I’m not hangin’ off XOXO’s sack, but we run in a 2-5 man as well as they do (normally) and I can’t count the number of times we sit outside a tower with 15 people in it “defending” while we look for them to come out and fight. but noooooooo, they are MUCH safer shooting AC’s and kitten at us.
Maybe they (XOXO) just wanna fight and not have to tear down some stupid door to get to the “chewy center” of the tootsie pop…
Just sayin’

If you stop relying on Altruistic Healing, a slew of new builds will open for you =].
A slew of new less effective builds you mean.
An AH build is the best hybrid build for a guardian because it has strong defense, decent support, and average damage. There are a lot of builds that are pure builds that out perform AH in either support or damage.
This
with some more chars.
Now Musty Britches since someone decided Shortbus Rider was offensive… [LoS] [NSP]
ok, first off…
Your second post isn’t going to make anyone WANT to help you. Try to be patient, as you can see by the posts on the front page there are a LOT of newbs looking for a build. Maybe THEY are looking at your post and don’t feel qualified to answer.
Second, the guardian will be effective almost no matter what you do with the spec. you “almost” can’t screw it up. It comes down to what’s Better for YOU and the way YOU run.
I personally think that you left the valor line for honor, your crit damage will be very low. I personally play very aggressive and would like to keep that higher. mainly because I run in a 2-5 person group and need to kill quick. (I don’t use staff for that reason as well).
All in all it will be effective, just not the way I would go.

offensive defensive the best defence is a strong offensive with scouts in your territory instantly telling you when a enemy zerg is close by
gw2 WvW is about many things first a POWERFUL ARMY!! then a strong small raid team to good defenders and many other things.
servers like vizunah square, seafarers rest, desolation, black tide have all chowed they are the best at it!
I play for SFR and I am always on the offensive but I also stick close to my territory so I can always catch an enemy zerg in our territory I don’t allow them to roam in our side without a fight.
offensive is the best defence. if you stay in a tower camping and enemy build siege then you gonna lose resources and time. instead go outside and fight them off and wipe them.
Sorry, but did you even read the OP’s post?
How does anything you said have to do with the topic?
The post is about whether or not ANET is responsible for zerging, or are we responsible.

So what do you do now? Just leave the bags on the ground?
Snipe the badges, leave the garbage.
So, you loot everything.
And instead of porting and selling, you manually go through your bags and drop the loot all the time?
Doesn’t sound like much of a difference to me. /shrug
Now Musty Britches since someone decided Shortbus Rider was offensive… [LoS] [NSP]
Facts that counter:
1. AOE cap
2. Zergs reward more wxp because it doesnt divide wxp
3. Doylaks give more points for the more people contributing to the kill.1. Not a huge issue, ask the brigade of confusion bomb mesmers I usually have in my small group of ~15. Its not terribly hard defeating larger groups when they’re killing their selves while trying to kill you.
2. Not once do we say “Hey lets go take X tower and X supply camp, im almost Rank 10!”
3. Not once do we say “Hey we need more people over here at X supply camp to take out these Dolyaks, I really want more WXP!”I think these are all petty points and definitely ones I havent encountered, which is saying something because if I devoted as much time to getting my legendary as I do to WvW, I’d have freaking Eternity by now.
You’re not getting the point of the posts…
it’s MORE advantageous. No one said you HAD to.
No one ever “Says” that they are doing what they are doing for wxp, it just happens that way as part of the normal play of the game. But zerging is the path of least resistance.
If everyone in the room says the carpet is red, and you think it’s green… an eye exam may be in order.
“Zerging is the path of least resistance”
Yes, because human nature dictates so, as I previously stated. It’s not the GW2 rewards system. It all goes back to human nature and our instinct to group up to overcome resistance. It really doesnt have much to do with the GW2 WvW system, you essentially are stating it yourself whether you realize it or not.
I’d much rather bring my guild and our 15-20 down into watergate, speedbuild a couple of golems, and ninja an objective than run with 50 chickens with their heads cut off. I think most people would agree. The only ones usually looking for fast badges and karma are PUGs.
Good Lord man, I am not stating it, I and everyone else in this thread put down several major things that *ANET put in the game* that makes it EASIER/BETTER/MORE EFFICIENT to zerg. THAT is why people do it.
Small (read miniscule) map size
AOE Cap
Downed state
rewards greater WXP/points for larger numbers
easier to gain wxp by quickly overwhelming objectives with superior numbers
etc.
etc.
I’m with ya, I run in groups of 5 or less, I find it MUCH more appealing. But I’m telling you, if you can’t see that ANET has made a system that encourages zergballing we simply can’t help you.
Now Musty Britches since someone decided Shortbus Rider was offensive… [LoS] [NSP]
I for one don’t want my bags auto filling up every 10 minutes with WvW craptastic items. Maybe it’s just me, but if not a selectable option, I/we would pretty much be forced to run to a merch/TP every 10-15 mins to clear the 95% junk that is dropped here.
Auto looting badges however is feasible IMO due to the nature of the item and it’s stacking size.
So what do you do now? Just leave the bags on the ground?

Yeah, it’s a terrible system.
But, it’s better than it used to be, you used to have the bag drop at the body not at your location.
I can’t even imagine why this hasn’t been fixed/changed yet.
I can’t help but think of the quote, “The technology isn’t there yet”.
But the software engineer in me can’t help but think that if they can read my players location to spawn it at my feet (Player object access?), why don’t they have access to my players’ inventory to place items there.. it’s quite frustrating indeed.
I honestly would prefer if it was like every other reward system in the game, so when I left WvW for the night I got a nice big glorious chest of loot to deal with and vendor the junk.
I TOTALLY agree, I also have a programming degree…
The routines are ALREADY MADE to loot. It seems to me that all they have to code is On kill-run loot (f) routine: If bags full – run drop bag at feet routine.
I really laughed when I read that quote as well. I mean I’m not omnipotent and I don’t actually know for a fact how the system works internally. But the logical part of my brain says, “this is an easy fix they don’t wanna do for some reason.”
Now Musty Britches since someone decided Shortbus Rider was offensive… [LoS] [NSP]
No, they make it more rewarding/easier to zerg, THAT makes a lot of people do it.
Some of us still roam in small groups, we don’t get as many rewards as the zergers because we choose to play counter to what ANET has made the most advantageous.
Down System
AOE limit
WXP Point system distribution for kills/keeps
just to point out a few.
All favor zerging, All ANET created, add it up. Yes, people create zergs, you are correct, but they do so because ANET has made it the most efficient/easiest way to play/gain. And THAT is where human nature kicks in.
