Low FPS for my Laptop i7-7700 + GTX 1060

in Players Helping Players

Nash.2681

Hard to do some diagnostics without sitting in front of your machine, so I’ll just leave some points you might wanna check out / put into consideration:
- you see my laptops specs in my signature, running a mix of high and maxed out settings with framelimiter active your laptops fps don’t look too far off. My fps vary from 30ish in crowded places like LA or WvW and hit the framelimit in most open world scenarios and instances.
Assuming the i7-7700 is the regular mobile CPU, it’s benchmarks are very close to the ones of the i7-6700 used in mine; and since GW2 is hugely CPU dependent, your GTX1060 won’t add much to your overall performance uneless you’re playing on some 4k resolution
- talking about resolution- their might be a difference between the display attached to your desktop and your laptop display, which might cause a difference
- check the energy settings of your laptop and make sure they’re set for “maximum performance” as long as you play GW2
- along with the point above: plug your laptop to a power source to get the max. performance out of it
- did you check the temperatures of your CPU while playing? your laptop might suffer from throttling caused by bad cooling
- last thing I can think of: most laptops are crammed with bloatware, lowering overall performance; if your machine is no exception, you might wanna consider to make a clean re-installation of your OS

Good luck.

We would like Marionette back

Oh yes, plz bring back marionette! It was so much fun being forced to play on a set time schedule!
Having to join a map on which most ppl had nothing to do anymore but wait for 30 mins+ just to be save to get on a somewhat populated and maybe even organized map when the event finally started felt so epic each time! Not to mention the all so joyfull “join friend on map” – “the desired map is already full, plz try again later” mini-game that evolved from this- so good!
And don’t forget how much fun it was when you finally got on a map with enough ppl to cover the lanes and you got on your platform, beat your boss and watched the guys on the platform next to you fail in the most ridiculous ways imaginable and thus failing the whole event for everybody over and over again!

Oh yeah, how I miss those golden days of frustration and toxicity…. not.

(post above may contain a nostalgia-free view on the topic and include sarcasm, consume at your own risk)

If they ever decide to revamp the whole fight and bring it back as a fractal- fine. But bringing it back 1:1 just for the sake of nostalgia- plz not.

I wanted to be sure that you knew this this thread is still active and your input is welcome. This thread pertains to the PvE Preview, our first of two events. I’m now (since the preview is over) posting a PvP/WvW Preview feedback thread.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on either or both subjects!

Glad you’re still gathering feedback but… since roughly 95% complain about the new identify-stuff-feature, would you be so kind to give a quick headsup about how the Devs think about it? Are they thinking about removing the feature? Do they want to keep it but sort stuff by rarity? Or will they simply ignore the feedback and keep it as it is? I’m pretty sure you are aware that the longer they remain silent, the bigger the impression of “we don’t kitten care and keep it as it is” grows :/

Just wanted to share this so others that might experience the same know
a) that they are not the only ones and
b) how they can potentialy fix it themselves.
And ofc to bring it to QA attention if they want to look into it and fix it.

My wife ran into a weird bug yesterday.

Even though I didn’t want to buy PoF (yet) for various reasons, she talked me into it yesterday.
So we both pre-ordered it ingame through the gem store.
The buying process was fine, we both received two ingame mails shortly after with the bonus items, aswell as the lvl 80 booster. So far so good.
Then my wife changed her character, selecting her Daredevil… which suddenly was a regular Thief and the “you’re missing some traits icon” was highlighted. So she opened the trait panel and the bottom traitline indeed was empty. She wanted to re-add the daredevil line and an error occured saying something like “this features is only available when you own Heart of Thornes. For more infos and purchase option, plz click this link”.
You can imagine she was like “what the…?!”.
I told her to log-out and -in again and it seems it fixed the issue, she was able to select Daredevil again and so far no other characters seem to suffer from the same issue, but still it was kinda weird, esp. since there was no issue at all on my own account.

Seems like your only problem is that it’s not Cantha?

You feel mounts were not needed sure, but it doesn’t seem like they are a detractor in any way. And the last is “What if it’s bad” Which can be said of everything.

If the expansion being “not Cantha” is enough to kill your desire to play, I wonder how much you liked GW2 in the first place.

Nope, read again. Cantha is a personal preference of mine, but surely no reason to be that desillusioned.
What bugs me most is, that it all feels like selling just another LS Season with a totally unneeded feature (mounts) being the justification for making us pay. Sure, it’s just an announcment so far and luckily we can sneak peak, but still, there’s this bad feeling left inside.

Wow people can always be so negative. Regarding your “contras:”

I remember playing gw1 and not being able to jump, swim, and constantly hitting invisible walls. Don’t you dare say anyone traveled in gw1. Gw2 is traveling, and I thought the mounts looked really fun. Gliders don’t make you go horizontally, and i’m kind of tired of seeing layline everywhere. I’m happy with this and the fact that you will be able to move faster. Waypoints are nice, but I like exploring sometimes and this will be best for that.

It makes no sense to go to Cantha right now. Anyone who has looked at the main map since launch knew we were going to Elona before Cantha because where we are going is already on the map.

The story seems a lot better than HoT. We go from “oh look, we kill another dragon just like the first game” to rogue god with an unclear purpose. We knew what Mordy wanted and how he wanted to do it ever since Scarlet showed up. We don’t know what is driving Balth. Why does he want to be the only god now? Why does he think what happened to Abaddon won’t happen to him?

This is the closest thing anet has done to stirring up interest in Abaddon in a long time, a god who many players want to see return as the main, or a main antagonist despite them saying he is “dead dead.”

This expansion looks great! And I’m SICK OF THE JUNGLE environments so I’m happy!

Wow, people can always be hyped no matter what (see the irony?).

You like to explore- fine, but one could already do this. They announced “5 new maps, bigger than anything we added before”. And since they are “so big” they add mounts. I’m quite sure they could have scaled the maps smaller so one wouldn’t need mounts to get around in a reasonable time. So this leaves me with the impression "we felt we need to add mounts to feed that (somewhat very vocal) part of the community a carot so they keep playing, and to justify this move, with simply make the new maps bigger.
This all sounds to me like a big waste of ressources for adding mounts just for the sake of adding mounts, even though they could have delivered the same stroy experience without it.

I agree, moving to Cantha wouldn’t have made much sense right now story wise, yet me and a lot of others still wished for it. Elona is okay, yet one should be allowed to prefer Cantha.

I’m not saying the story will be bad, in fact I’m glad it’s not just “go kill the next elder dragon”, but with the way the last epsiodes of the LS were presented, they better make a big step forward in story telling.

€: all in all it seems as we’re getting a new full LS story line but have to pay for it this time, with mounts being the justification for it. Leaves a bad taste for me :/

So I just watched the PoF anouncment and as a long time follower of the GW franchise, I’d like to share my feedback on it. Feel free to ad yours.

Pro
- Palawa Joko
- seems to be content/story focused
- GW1 reminscences
- new guild hall

Neutral
- new Elite Specialization (expectable, though I’m not sure if it’s a good idea; might lead to even more balancing issues through the additional skills and combinations, something you initially tried to avoid as a lesson from GW1)

Contra
- Mounts to travel through areas we wandered in by foot without issues 250 years ago
(seriously, what the kitten?! With the waypoint system and gliding there was totally no need for this.
You killed one of the signature features of the Guild Wars franchise. I don’t even dare to ask how many ressources were wasted on this totally unneeded feature that seems to be there just for the sake of being there)
- no Cantha
- if the story isn’t really good, there seems not to be really much content behind the shiny surface

Conclusion:
Was hyped before the anouncment, am not hyped anymore. After 12 years into the GW franchise, this is the very first time I really think about makeing a cut and move on to something else

How to craft exotic gear with Magi stats

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nash.2681

Nash.2681

Stupid question: have you doublechecked that you haven’t already discovered the recipe?

I did, got several exotic warhorn recipes available, but not the magi one.

The recipe for magi’s warhorn is

  • Orichalcum Horn
  • Orichalcum Warhorn Mouthpiece
  • Glob of ecto x5
  • Magi’s Orichalcum Imbued Inscription

If they aren’t combining in the discovery panel, try changing the order you add them to the forge.

Plus: Tanner’s question is good. We’ve all made that mistake at least, oh, 5 times.

Exactly the pieces I tried to put in the discovery tab, also tried different orders (I know this “feature” oh so well, see nr. 4 on my list in the op), but it didn’t work

Edit: I take everything I said back and state the opposite. Just logged in and checked… and stupid me already had discovered the recipe. Shouldn’t do crafting when I’m too tired…. thanks all, this topic can be closed.

How to craft exotic gear with Magi stats

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Nash.2681

Nash.2681

Hey guys,

since I searched the wiki back and forth and found nothing that answered my question I’ll give this forum a shot.

I wanted to get some exotic Magi gear for my druid to be more versatile in raids. Since I got more than enough ori, leather, etc. I decided to get some cheap insignias and inscriptions of the TP and make them myself instead of buying the armor pieces themselves. But somehow it won’t work.
Here’s what I tried (example: exoitc warhorn with magi stats)
1. bought exotic magi inscription from the TP
2. crafted the two ori-horn pieces that are used for all exotic warhorns
3. went to the discovery tab and placed the two warhorn pieces and 5 ectos in, but it won’t let me add the magi inscription
4. tried it in different orders, even in the MF, nothing worked
5. conclusion: I probably need a recipe for “exotic magi xx”. But I couldn’t find where to get them.

Any help appreciated.

Uncategorized because of its diversity and good pace and -ofc- cat golems
Thaumanova because of its diversity in tasks (you’ll start to see a pattern, do you?)
I’m still a bit torn on Nightmare, I like the boss fights and the overall orientation towards boss fights a lot, just the gimmicky part with the bubbles is… well… ok’ish (collision detection on those orbs seems not to work too well, especiall when playing a big char, but could also be a connectivity issue on my end)
To a certain degree I also like Solid Ocean for its GW1 reminiscence, though I don’t like you can just skip half of it and it’s overall too easy

1. The one you guys haven’t seen yet
2. Nightmare
3. Bloomhunger
4. Thaumanova
5. Chaos
6. Snowblind

I’m a little biased.

did you (help) make all of those??

Not Chaos, that was Elijah Miller. I was working on the Snowblind and Swampland reworks as he built it.

Don’t want to be offensive, but…. are you saying the one (you) being responsible for one of the worst fractal revamps (that ultra dull parts every 25% at bloom where players are forced to run in circles killing trash while picking their noses and trying to not fall asleep until the bar is filled and the actual bossfight continues) is responsible for the new fractal? If so, my hype for a new fractal just died

You only need one sword with the Concentration sigil. Put the sword in your main-hand and leave the main-hand slot in the other weapon set empty. When you switch, you’ll keep the sword, but will trigger the sigil effect.

Generally, if one doesn’t want to do the zerker + commander legs meta, going full minstrels is usually considered the optimal way of tanking and carrying.

I’m aware of the “one mainhand sword only” thing, just didn’t put that way in the calculator, but thx anyway, others might not know this already
Anyway…

Chrono runes are self-only quickness, completely worthless.

Kitten, didn’t know about that, thought everyone in the well would get the quickness. Yet, this answers my question 100%, thanks!

…or what if one steps a little aside from the suggested gear.

Hey guys, after gearing my necro, guard, warrior and thief, my lil chrono-girl is about to be one of the next character’s I’m going to get some propper gear for.
To make this clear at start- I’m talking about PvE only and my focus is instanced group content (mostly fractals and some dungeons with some raiding on top). I like an efficient playstyle and thus I usually take meta builds as a starting point and make as little adjustments as possible to fit my playstyle (e. g. using a focus as a DH instead of torch or things like that).

After playing around with the build editor, I was left with two possible gear choices.
A) the pretty common meta-like version (zerker gear with runes of leadership, http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vhAQRAsc8encfClfi1fCGoBEgiFVjqOZn2qlMAGhi7MIWipD-ThBXABhofo09H49JA0j6PAo87BlgkCAwpWA-e)
B) quite the other way round (leadership gear with runes of the chronomancer, http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vhAQRAsc8encfClfi1fCGoBEgiFVj6MIWiprOZn2qlMAGhiD-ThRfABAofYznAwnK/Oc/BWVC+o6PBAOA46ApAAcqF-e)
Difference between A) to would be almost equal Power, 10% crit chance on, 50% more ferocity on A), almost 500 more Thoughness on
Now I was wondering- since my dps will be potato-like anyway and I’m in no way a mesmer expert, would it make sense to run choice for the extra thoughness and extra quickness when casting wells and thus giving more room for error when trying to execute a perma-quickness rotation? Or do I overlook something?
Oh and I’m fully aware of the consequences of running 1500 toughness on some raid encounters, so that put aside- is there still a clear winner or would be a perfectly fine alternative to the common meta choice?

Glad to get some advice, cheers!

For what it’s worth….

Pro

  • GW1 references- glad you guys didn’t forget about those great times
  • Interaction / dialogues between us and Taimi, Kas, etc.- well done and well voice acting (as usual, but still worth mentioning)
  • story progress not gated behind grinding the new mastery

Con

  • new map is just so…. boring and anoying. Another vertical fiesta like a toned down version of TD. Since fighting there seems even more irrelevant than in the rest of the world, I soon found myself running around in a hurry, trying to reach my desired destination (and still getting lost more often than not)
  • new map seems totally out of place. Green jungle on the ring of fire? Did I miss something?! And even if there’s an explenation lore-wise for this- the parts with the bright colors seem way too… colorful, while the others feel way to empty and boring
  • adding another mastery level whitout letting people gather the required masterypoints “on the fly” as in previous episodes
  • the overall story feels… weird. It all started with “oh crap, another two elder dragons are about to awake, kitten, what shall we do?!” “may be we can make them fight each other let’s see…” “oh, what the- another suspicious foe from the past shows up” and it all got embeded well within the Krytan part of the story. So far so good. But this story twist now and the reaction of the player character feels all wrong and doesn’t seem to be thought out well
  • there’s almost 0 fighting involved in this episode, just running around, doing some gimmicky stuff and you’re done. Very disappointing

Just a little heads up about the “buggy” part of my issue, I think I found out what kept me from getting the missing part.
According to the wiki (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mordremoth's_Chest) one gets one collection piece from the final chest. Since somewhen back in time I acctualy finished the exotic Vigil and the Lightbringer backpieces, I unlocked the collection for their asc. versions. And both times I did the DS Meta to get the GS hilt, I got an item for those collections.
So it all boils down to bad RNG in every possible way. Good thing- I didn’t get the priory backpack yet, so if I’m right with my assumption, I should get that kittening hilt the next time I can get myself up and do that dull Meta one more time.

Thanks all that tried to help!

The meta event chest (the one you have to manually loot on the little bonus island with the merchant) has a guaranteed drop for a random unlocked machined collection. In order to be elegible though you have to have the collection unlocked before hand, meaning you must have entered the map (or final fight, not sure) with the collection unlocked.

If this did not happen for you then you are indeed suffering from a bug and should contact customer support. The drop rate from pods is close to about 30-50 pods per collection drop (again only if collections are unlocked) so not getting one from pods during a run is normal. I’ve had 1-2 complete DS runs where I only unlocked collection items from the final chest and not from pods while opening 50+ pods.

Since I definetly met all prerequisits, I bolded the relevant part. Guess I’ll have to file another bug report then and hope that RNG-sus will be with me, since I guess fixing this will take way longer than farming machetes and opening another 50+ pods…

Thanks guys.

Well, thanks to you two, sadly this leaves me being almost sure that it’s either a kittening bug or really bad RNG or a combination of both.

Sorry for this unholy thread necromancing, but I’m so kitten frustrated right now.
All I need for the “Dark Harvest” is this very machined greatsword hilt for the collection.
I did 2 full DS Metas now (even though I hate this kind of dull mass events but well….), opened around 50 pods but yet I got no hilt, neither from the pods nor from the end chest.
Am I doing something wrong, is this some kind of bug or is it just my cursed RNG?
Any help appreciated.

It’s probably just RNG. When I was going for the Warhorn I completed the meta from start and opened every single pod on the map and didn’t get anything, eventually looted it from the 10th or so pod halfway through the second meta attempt.

While trying for both the machined GS and Torch I got the necessary pieces one after the other from pods during the first event leading up to the Mouth of Mordremoth battle. All I can add is that I was tracking the achievements when this happened, maybe that helps. *shrugs

I tracked the collection from the very start, just in case I overlook the drop, so I won’t play this pesky event any longer than necessary :/

Eh? Unless you have multiple collections unlocked the ground chest at the end of the meta should already have provided you with the the item.

And that’s what did not happen. Twice. Just that one machined weapon collection active. Just anoying. Anyway, if it is really intended that those items are a guaranted drop from the final meta chest, it seems bugged.
Fun fact- my wife, hunting for the staff at the same time, got the staff piece after ~10 pods, so unfortunatly we’ll never know if she had gotten it from the final chest. Now that’s the part where RNG-sus seems to hate me…

Worst fractal?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Nash.2681

Nash.2681

I think the endboss of the underwater fractal needs to be revamped. It is a very boring and uninspired fight at the moment. The electricity fields get ignored by almost every group.

I would like to second this, though I recently found out why it’s totally legit to ignore the electricity fields- they are horribly inconsistent. After we moved to a new apartment, my wife and I can sit next to each other while playing and guess what? A cage that is under electricity for one, is not for the other. We could swim like a tandem to a specific cage and it was lit for one of us and not for the other. So given that is most likely to happen to each and everyone, I totally understand now why people just ignore them and kill the boss straight away.
Oh, and also a [x] to all those anoying timegates that are left (I would also consider the attack phase at bloomhunger here, since it adds 0 to difficulty, just artificially increases the time spent in there).

No. All you can do is change the stats by using the mystic toilet (iirc 1 Anthem of Heroes, 5 Ectos, 1 exotic insignia of the desired stats and the item itself), but the armor class will remain the same.

I seriously hope this guy is trolling, but in case he’s not…
Though I agree to the first part of

THIS IS A WAR BETWEEN OUR WORLD AND THE ENEMIES’ WORLDS. THIS IS NOT A PLAYGROUND FOR THE SELFISH. WE MUST ALL CONTRIBUTE TO THE SURVIVAL AND EVENTUAL DOMINANCE OF OUR WORLD.
THERE SHALL BE NO MORE: “I AM A ROAMER, I DON’T HAVE TO LISTEN TO A COMMANDER” MENTALITY.

that’s certainly not something to blame on roamers, since they do take camps, escort/kill dollies, defend objectives until the army arrives and, ofc, fight other roamers trying to do the same. The only kind of players your accusation fits would be those duelists, but that’s another story.
What made me really giggle was:

while 50 players run around with the commander and nobody volunteers to run to the keep to check. Or we say, take back the supply camps! we are running low on supplies. But everybody sticks to the commander and nobody breaks away. Or the Commander says, can someone tick the sieges? Nobody does it. Can someone walk this camp’s yak?…

That’s a masterpiece example of bad leadership here. Always make precise orders if you want someone to follow them. “Subsquad 3, take camp X and rejoin the squad after”. “Subsquad 4, go escort dollies to get that keep to the next tier”. And so on. But that’s actually something most commanders are lacking so if it really bothers you, go do it better yourself or live with it.
Giving some random guy that spent 100 or 300 gold for a tacco the power to influence other players rewards is certainly not the solution.

  • Anyone who fractals regularly has more salvage kits than rings and those who don’t fractal regularly can almost always find use for the few rings they find from other sources.

Though you’re right on the other points, I can’t comprehend this one. Though I too feel that the supply of rings got significantly lowered with the new FotMs, asc. salvage kits are even rarer, at least to me and each and everyone I know that I do FotM with.
So salvaging a ring almost everytime comes with an invetment of 1 gold (and that’s when putting aside that me and others still got several bank tabs of ascended rings in our banks).

Weird. My group has the opposite problem. We joke that getting the salvage kits is like losing money, since they take up extra inventory space.

Incidentally, it’s not that we don’t receive rings; the drop rate seems similar to what it was before (although I confess, we aren’t keeping track of rings). It’s just that for every 4 rings we get, we usually get 5+ salvage kits.

Haha, lucky you(s). We’re more on the 1:2 to 1:3 kits to rings ratio. Guess it’s just another example of RNGsus doing his thing in this game

Raids and build snobbery

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nash.2681

Q: Since when did MMO endgame content rely on players following the exact guide from sites like metabattle etc?
A: Since always, because as long as a game has variable numbers, there will always be an optimal set. Its called META: Most Efficient Tactic Available

The fact you’re making that presumption means you never played GW1, Diablo, World of Warcraft or any other RPG before?

GW2 has been very lenient in its designs. You don’t need META to play the game and enjoy both the easy and the hard content. Raids however are the peak of this difficulty designed for players to hunt this META and use it. The META will also change with new raid wings and class updates. Maybe with the next expansion we get new Elite Specs, which redefine the META again.

IN SHORT:
The game is very un-meta friendly. Meaning you can play ALMOST all content without being META which is a lot more than most games do.

You are aware that you contradict yourself? Most EFFICIENT tactic available does not mean ONLY tactic to succed available. But unfortunatly that’s what most of the metabattle users are acting alike. But as you (and others, myself included) say:

ONLY raids are designed for meta-ISH builds.

And that’s how I understood what the OP complains about- ppl not running exact meta builds but still efficient meta-ish builds being looked down on by metabattle copy&pasters.

Questions about the viper horror build

in Necromancer

Posted by: Nash.2681

Nash.2681

No it is not.
1. The reason for the Reaper line is Reaper Shroud (RS). RS 5 makes an ice field (and helps a lot against breakbars) and when you execute RS 4 in it, you apply A LOT of bleeds on your enemy. This plus RS 3 being your source of stability + RS 2 giving a bit mobility if needed are the reasons for the reaper line.
2. Food, esp. condi duration, should be used when the content is somewhat demanding. I’d say it’s ok if u save it up for raids, T4 fractals and maybe some dungeons like Arah or the Aetherpath. Else you will get along without it as long as you’re not going for record runs.
3. This build works for solo play without any adjustments. Ofc you can make some, but it’s 100% not necessary.

€: got already discussed a couple of days ago https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/necromancer/Why-is-Reaper-part-of-the-Viper-Horror-build

Raids and build snobbery

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nash.2681

Nash.2681

I somehow feel for you OP, though I’m not sure if you’re taking the right approach here.
See, I don’t like following metabattle.com and to follow all those guides word by word myself. I enjoyed GW1 for the very reason, that if you were smart enough, you could come over everything just by creativity. Sabway, Discordway, Spiritway etc.- for a long time I didn’t even know what those ment and still got everything done with balanced team builds or making quick adjustments when playing with real players. Later I found out, that my own team builds used some parts of the before mentioned “meta” builds, but there were still alot of things I approached differently that still worked and were equally efficient.
Now times changed and GW2 is quite different than GW1. Let me elaborate:
By “times changed” I’m talking about Information distribution. Information is available faster and faster nowadays. New LS season? Wait a couple of hours and Dulfy presents you a complete guide to everything. Ofc it’s each and everyone’s own decision wether to look things up there or not, but thing is- many people do. And by doing so, two things happen. First, they gain an advantage over people that don’t read the guides, they now exactly when they have to do what to get X done.
Second, expectations change. Someone who looked up everything about X will more likely expect everyone else to do so aswell and will less likely take his time and explain everything or even discuss things if there are different viable approaches. One can read up how to be succesfull, so he expexts them to do so.
Now the differences between GW1 and GW2. GW1 had thousands of skills and thus a whole lot of combinations that worked well together. Some were quite obvious, some others not, but they still were there. In return, the gameplay itself I feel was more relaxing. I always compared it to playing a piano- if you set up everything right you just had to push the buttons in the right order to enjoy the music, or well, the slaughter.
GW2 on the other hand is very simplyfied when it comes to buildcrafting, there’s quite few room for efficient builds for a specific role, many Specialisations are mandatory and gear-wise the general route is also pretty much carved in stone.
So the irony here is, that almost every build that gets stuff done efficiently will inevitably have a lot in common with the so called meta builds (I’d estimate about 90% at the least).
This makes me feel the gameplay is much more demanding when it comes to more challenging content, since movement and active defense is way more important while and one has to improvise more often.

So why am I writing all this, since I said at the beginning that I feel your issue? Keeping in mind what I wrote above, I simply don’t bother with ppl strictly following “the meta” anymore, since the whole way GW2 is set up, it rewards this behaviour greatly and thus I can understand why people act the way they do.
But since dull copy&pasting is not my playstyle, I simply avoid every lfg that has some “meta” in it, cuz the chances you’ll either meet some “snobs” or copy&pasters not knowing kitten are quite high (though I’m sure that most of those ppl would barely notice any difference).

What is the consequence of this? Though my wife and I would love to experience the raids, we still havent. In addition to not running strict meta builds, we also have a strong aversion against any form of voice-comm (yeah, it makes things easier, but we strongly believe that if everyone knows his role, has learned the encounter and sticks to his/her job, anything can be succesfully done without it).
So for now we accepted things the way they are and don’t bother too much about, since we’re also moving to a new place in the next few weeks (which means even less spare time, a lot of things to coordinate etc. etc.). But when it’s all set and done, we’re probably try to get our little family&friends guild a bit more running and hopefully find some like-minded, flexible people. And then we’re hopefully going to raid aswell.

tl;dr: you can’t change the way things are, but you can change your PoV and the way you approach things

[…]
Just because someones build/armor set isn’t EXACTLY what YOU consider meta, doesn’t mean it’s “terrible build/armor set”. That mentality, and condescending attitude is being a snob.

While it is true some people are more sensitive about comments. If you walk up to someone and say “your build is terrible and your armor/stat layout is terrible” Do you really think that will be well received? Or is it more likely to be considered an insulting…

A very wise reply this is.

I suggest you do it again, make sure you don’t fall down AND use every platform available. If it still doesn’t complete- report it as a bug.

Btw.- I play T4 fractals with my guard, and while it really hurts having to cripple my DPS through trait adjustments just to avoid retaliation, it is still playable. Sure, not optimal, but totally doable. Just follow the old yet simple “respect the lfg” rule and don’t force yourself into parties that strictly don’t want guards in them.

If you’re looking for optimal it will depend on the level. Most party comps will prbly include a Chrono for Quickness/Alacrity, a PS Warr for the might and a druid for spotter/spirits/GotL. Rest is lots of condi damage, be it necros (if the map favors epi condi bouncing) or anything else.

I guess the idea would be to stack a lot of burn on one enemy and then let the reapers “share” and bounce them around with epidemic.
Something like this (just thrown together in a few seconds):
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQRAsf7fnsABddilCBGCBEEhF/hSO8H/43KAqg6M7BnwME-TxhAQBA4kAIgnAgO2f4aK/qpSQAqfAiq/QKg80VB-e

Things I don’t understand yet:
- why can’t one use DH with it? with Zeal and Virtues only 2 out of 3 trait lines are set
- why would one consider Inspired Virtues a great source of party Might when it only gives 3 stacks for 5 seconds
- why make a build that looses a lot of viability in single target/boss fights and only shines vs. trash which usually gets mawed away anyway

Your hardware seems fine, as long as you keep the venting system clean on a regular basis.
Only things that I can image can cause trouble would be Win 8.1 and some of the newer nVidia driver versions, that are known to cause trouble with mobile cards + GW2. Though that would be a general performance issue and have nothing to do with lag.

FPS Issues [Merged]

in Account & Technical Support

Nash.2681

Since I got a very similar Hardware Setup (see Signature) and no FPS issues, one can only guess what’s wrong with your machine. Some things I can think of:
Might be redundant but make sure you don’t play in battery mode but have your laptop plugged in to a power source.
Does your machine use the nVidia Optimus technology? If so, force the laptop to use your 980m for GW2 in the Geforce driver settings manually.
Talking about drivers- there has been a lot of trouble with mobile Geforce cards and new nVidia drivers in the past few months. Especially if you have Win 10 and all that fancy auto-update stuff, chances are you “accidently” got a new Geforce driver installed that doesn’t like the combination of GW2 and a m-series GPU. Try an older driver, I use 365.10 at the moment since everything I play on my laptop works well with it.

Was obvious that something like this would happen, since I opened my daily chest of loyalty (the last one where you can choose between asc. stuff, leg. stuff, laurels, lvl up tomes), got 2 (!) deldrimor steel ingots out of it. Though I should have known that something was going terribly wrong that moment, I was so happy to finally not get a kittening spiritwood plank… but… re-opening the chest after the rollback…. ofc it was the usual 1 kittening spiritwood plank again. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

But what bugs me the most is, that apparently something broke on the WvW servers. Since after the rollback, I experience horrible skill-lag.
Had a short queue on green BL, finally managed to jump in, and oh boy, almost unplayable (which was totally fine before the rollback).
Worst situation was, when I attacked someone and my character and the whole screen, incl. sound, got freezed in the animation, like I was watching a short .gif with sound. Ofc I got slaughtered in the meantime (armor was broken after I finally got back in the game).
After a few minutes of waiting I had to manually close GW2. And since I couldn’t log in to any map afterwards anymore (maploadinfo showed 100%, sounds where played, but the loading screens persistet) I also had to restart my PC.
Managed to do my WvW dailies on the other BL which were far less crowded, but the performance was still horrible.
(and no, I wasn’t a “normal” lag issue, ping was constantly somewhere between 40 and 60).

Questions about PUGing

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

This frustrating experience made me question a few things that I’d like to ask the community.

1) Is it acceptable to just leave a PUG midway? I’m always hesitant to do this because I feel like I’m selfish in doing so. However, after 20 minutes on a single fractal I sort of feel like I just have to.

2) Should I give constructive criticism? I’m not a very social person. I’m afraid of confronting people and feel like if I pick at flaws I’d start an argument.

3) Should I carry pugs through high end fractals when it’s clear majority of the party is getting carried?

4) Do I expect too much from randoms in T4 fractals? Correct equipment, Knowledge of encounters, knowledge of class?

1) There’s no instance to judge you on that besides your own conscience.
2) Hard to give advice on that. The obvious answer would be “yes of course, constructive criticism is always good”. But then again, we’re talking about an online game… chances that you meet people that think of themselves that they’re the greatest, best and all-knowing players in the game are likely and any advice / constructive criticism will be taken as a personal insult. You’ll have to judge for yourself if the people you’re playing with are likely to listen or if it will be better to just sigh and facepalm irl and keep the chat shut.
3) see answer to 1)
4) Probably. The only thing you can savely expect from 99% of the players is that they have enough AR. Anything else is totally random.
I know of some people from a guild I’ve been in some time ago, that made it to fotm lvl 100, though I can’t possibly imagine how besides they got carried hard.
For others, fotm t4 dailies consisted of doing old Swamp over and over again, with some molten duo mixed in, so they never really learned the other levels and now have a hard time to adapt (since they made it to T4 already and thus it seems to be totally forbidden to take a step back to T3 or even lower to practice what’s apparently new to them…).

tl;dr: Pugging always was, is and always will be totally random. Sometimes you’ll win, sometimes you’ll lose. How you react to not so good PuGs is totally up to you.
