As long as the display is FHD or below, you should have no problems running GW2 on med-high settings. Ofc, FPS will go up and down depending on what you’re doing, but that’s something everyone has to deal with.
Before I upgraded to my current machine, I played for four years on a laptop with an i7 3720QM, 8 GB RAM, GTX660m and a HD+ display on med-high settings without any issues. Sure, there were some FPS drops at world bosses and big WvW fights, but nowhere to the point of becoming unplayable. Open world and instanced content just ran smooth somewhere between 40 and 60 fps.

[…] but since earning a living>GW2, I’d base your decision on your work requirements rather than GW2’s.
Pretty much this. The CPUs don’t differ much anyway and for gaming, the GTX960m would be the better choice, but on then again- if the Quadro M1000M would be better for you CAD, just go with it.
I just checked some benchmarks and it seems as if this Quadro would still be somewhat faster than a GTX660m. Why do I tell you that? Because I played GW2 on a laptop with a GTX660m (coupled with a slower CPU then the ones you’re choosing from) for four years before I got a new Laptop recently and it ran just fine on med-high settings on a HD+ display (1600×900). So as long as you’re not going to play GW2 on more than FHD any of your combos should do, so just pick the one that’s best for your work.
If you want to compare your components yourself, I suggest to take a look at:

One last advice after checking the Dell Precision 5510- don’t underestimate the influence of good cooling and maintenance accesability. Those super-slim and flat laptops sure look good, but keep in mind that the smaller the case, the hotter the inside.

If you played it on T2, you might have had issues with the “enemies get boons on crit” instability, bosses tend to get a lot of stability stacks that negate incoming cc.

You either want to wait, as next gen graphics cards are becoming current gen, so there will be opportunities for previous season models real soon, or just wait out the novelty tax on new staff, or you want to go Dell (inspiron 7559).
Clevo is a risk, they aren’t known for their build quality. While from dell you can get “house call” technician guarantee for little extra. Given how gaming rigs aren’t your cheapest buy, and aren’t always build for endurance (because most bang for your buck goes into power of internals) I would highly advice the manufacturer who will be there for you if things go south.
Well, since Clevo is a pure barebone manufacturer, the support totally depends on the reseller, e. g. Sager in the U.S. or Schenker in the EU (just two examples). Ofc, support is an important issue to consider, but breaking it down to “Clevo bad” is just plain wrong.
Another plus of the Clevo barebones is, that they offer easy acces for maintenance, so you can clean the fans thoroughly and change stuff like RAM, harddrives, etc. yourself.

cheaper one just get anything comes with I5 6200u to 6500u as cpu and amd or nvidia as video card and ssd hardrive.
I strongly suggest to NOT follow this advice. The U-Series CPUs are toned down versions aiming for a very low TDP (which isn’t a bad thing in general, but comes at the cost of performance and those are specifically design for being used in those ultra-slim multimedia notebooks).
There are still some recommendable laptops in that link, but skip those with the U CPU.

You get 1 mastery point for a story step, but only if you haven’t done any of the chapters of this step already.
For example: “Breaking the Blade” will only award you with a mastery point if you have not finished “The Commander”, or “The Trial of Julius Zamon” already. If you already have done one of these with another character, you already earned the mastery point for this story step and will not gain another. I hope I summarized it in a understandable way :s

Why I love the addition of grave markers itself, I’m deeply disappointed by the way it got implemented.
I was so looking forward to set up some kind of memorial for the co-founder of our little guild (back in GW1) who passed away 6 years ago. My wife and I carried the guild over to GW2 despite most members either didn’t buy GW2 at all or stopped playing shortly after release. There’s always an obituary pinned in our guild news and we’re slowly progressing our guild level (11 at the moment), which was fine until I read the patch notes:
“Guild Hall Monument Decorations will be available from the Guild Market once your guild has obtained the Guild Hall Decorations Merchant 2 upgrade”. That means guild level 22 and a kittenload of materials / gold for the upgrades.
Great, so small guilds are not allowed to raise a stone for their beloved ones that passed away way too early.
I mean, I understand that guild hall upgrades and decorations have some more or less tight restrictions so guilds have a goal they can work towards and adds some kind of progression, but this explicit feature should have been excluded and be available right away if you have claimed a guild hall.

[…]It absolutely needed to be changed, and probably should have been changed with earlier Fractal changes.
I think that’s the crucial point. Though the old system wasn’t very intuitive people got used to it over time since there was no sign of change anywhere. Now out of a sudden there’s a massive revamp and many people are upset, even though the new system makes much more sense.
That’s just human nature, most peoples reaction is denial when new stuff comes around that somewhat affects their lives, even it’s just a part of their hobby.

Sigh. It ONLY makes sense for people who run fractals. That’s it.
If someone doesn’t run fractals, then why bother much about infusions anyway? All you lost is a tiny +5 to a stat, if you were min/maxing that is.

So I’m all for your suggestion, I think somewhere between 100:1 and 250:1 would be a reasonable exchange rate.

One other question actually. If we need gliding for this new fractal, what will happen for the people that don’t have HOT? Will they be unable to do the new fractal?
Gliding? We’re unable to gilde in current fractals, why should this new one be an exception?
I’m more confused about how this new level will be pasted in the current fotm line-up. Will all levels get shuffled (and thus reset the fractal achievements… AGAIN) or will it be exclusive post-lvl-100 and thus raising the AR req?

Sorry for the comparison snafu. I can’t seem to find the 3rd option repeating the same filters (i5, 960m, <$1000), but here are the other two from the list.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834154112Sager is nice, but knowing the Asus is $100 less with an SSD (minus the i7 I don’t think I need) would the Sager be worth it? On first glance it looks like I could get away with the $799 Asus, but is there something I’m missing? The cheaper the better as long as I’m getting something that’ll do the job, hold up reasonably well, and not be a lemon.
As for your questions of need…
Size: Oversized screen is not necessary
Portability: I will not be carrying it around constantly, nor will I be gaming on my lap. Battery life isn’t super important since I don’t expect to be using it disconnected often, but having better than abysmal battery life would be nice.
Usage outside of GW2: Maybe other games when that day comes, but this will not be my primary computer. I can’t see myself using it for anything else outside of browsing and possibly watching movies. We seem to be doing more and more within a browser these days.
Must-haves: Really don’t have a must-have item.Question: Time and time again I see on this forum and elsewhere that i7 is overkill for gaming and that an i5 with higher clock speed is a better bang for the buck. But most “gaming” laptops seem to come with i7 processors. If an i7 is really overkill why doesn’t Sager for instance offer an i5 with a 960m as opposed to a 950m?
Currently have an i5-3570K paired to a GTX 660 (superclocked, non-ti) in my desktop, and similar performance would be nice.
Alright, given that you don’t want anything special the ones you found yourself seem to be fine. I just linked that Sager one since it’s the only major customizing reseller I know of in the U.S. (I’m from EU) and I have an avid aversion against ASUS laptops (my wife had one and their customer support was horrible; no big deal if everything works fine but dare you when some piece of hardware goes to the devil).
Indeed it won’t matter much wether you get an i5 or i7, it’s just that Laptop manufacturers tend to go with the i7 nowadays. For CPU comparison I suggest www.notebookcheck.net, just make sure it’s not an “U” modell (they’re slowed down models made for those ultra slim notebooks, so they won’t heat too much). Anything with an up-to-date i7 or i5, gtx960m, 8GB RAM+ should be what you’re looking for. Ofc kitten would be a great addition. Oh, and don’t forget to check the display, you wouldn’t want to get a higher resolution than FHD (1920×1080).
Good luck, I’m going to sleep now and looking forward to my new laptop being delivered tomorrow

As usually- the wiki is your friend.
Summary: rings do NOT give balls of dark energy, amulets, backpieces and accessories have a chance to yield one but no guarantee (all RNG), weapons and armors always give at least one ball.
Absolute cheapest way is to have something not too expensive to craft getting dropped and then spend that 1 gold for the salvage kit, though obviously pretty depended on your luck.
Leader of “Servants of Balance” [SoB], a small guild endemic to the FSP.
As long as you’re not after certain materials which need a character of a certain level opening the bags (you found out about it already), I wouldn’t bother too much.
Even though there are bags affected by magicfind, imo it’s totally not worth to focus on that since chances something usefull will come out of it are already abyssmal low. Wether the chance for a nice drop is 0,00000001% without magic find or 0,000005% with 500% magic find, it all boils down to RNG. And RNG is a kitten that shines on a lucky few (and usually the same few over and over again…) and kittens on the broad masses (ofc over and over again…).
So imo you’re way better off actually playing the game and do something that you enjoy and/or gives you gold right away than worrying about which bag to open when on which character, just to increase your chances for profit by a tiny, tiny bit.
€: i know, the part about RNG is soaked with the bitterness of someone that experienced everyone and their mum drowning in lucky drops and yet is to see a precursor drop (might include some exageration and lack valid maths ’n stuff. meh.). But Illconceived got it right with his excerpt of my overall point.

I don’t think an automated switch as you suggest would be a good idea (due to the way the engine is “optimized” FPS tend to go up and down within seconds leading to permanent switching of graphic profiles during playing = hard time for the eyes ahead).
But I’m all for the possibility to set up graphic profiles that can be changed without much effort “on the fly” and/or get automatically loaded for certain game modes like WvW.

First of all this would be better placed in the Account/Technical Support forum, may be a mod can move it there for you.
About your problem- if you already checked your temperatures and they are fine, make sure that your GPU runs via 16x PCIe, reseating the card in the slot might solve this issue. Here is some information about it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/FPS-dropped-after-hardware-update
If that doesn’t help, downgrading your nVidia drivers might help, seems like the latest driver version has some issues with GW2.

North America. I don’t want to give prices, but let’s say I could probably handle anything but the most overclocked devices. Like I said, I’ve seen this coming and have been saving up.
So it’s NA, alright. Since I’m in the EU I’m not too familiar with shops and resellers at your place, but since $$ isn’t too much of an issue… the one I heared a lot of would be Sager . They are definetly pricey but a huge plus is that you can customize the hardware and afaik they use Clevo barebones which means excellent maintenance possibilites. If you have questions on a certain modell I’d be glad to give my opinion.
May be you want to get some kind of breakfast tablet (the ones you use for having breakfast in bed) as a base for your in-bed-gaming or something alike (may be a friend or relative can carpenter something adequat).
I’ve actually been thinking about doing that, yeah. I’ve mostly used laptop pad/coolers in the past. I’ve seen a few breakfast table/laptop tables that might be nice.
In addition, I know it’s weird, but I use a wireless Logitech controller, because of the way I have to sit. It covers a lot of my movements and actions and allows more comfortable gameplay.
Nothing weird there, many people use gaming controllers for GW2, as long as you found a layout that’s working for you, that’s great!

There’s only one anoying thing about this fractal to me- and it’s the same with every other underwater fight in this game- inconsistent hitboxes. Having to guess where the Jelly really is since you can’t rely on what’s displayed on the screen is incredibly anoying.

Uhm, the ASUS G50V was a somewhat good gaming laptop… roughly 8 years ago when it was released in late 2008. The hardware is badly outdated, so it’s no surprise it struggles with GW2.

[…] ignore all this false political BS and just .. ya know.. play
As a FSP player I can only strongly support this.
The amount of whole squads AFK’ing at spawn for what feels like eternity or heading out to play some pseudo-GvG instead of capping the map lately is just too frustrating for someone who just wants to actually play and see his world giving their best in the competition.
No idea wether this behaviour has sth. to do with said issue, but I just had to point it out…As I have said before:
Guilds are the head, pugs are the body.
Try doing something without either and see how good that work out for you. They are still there, they are still playing and still bring activity. Many of the guild leaders are incidentally also the best pug commanders but zerging 24/7 is not all that fun so yes, they GvG a couple of hours. We need them to stay entertained in WvW.
Had an amusing situation the other day where someone was adamant in his opinion against GvGs on home border. We get it. Some people dont like it. That’s OK. People are entitled to their opinions. But kitten we where ahead like 50K points on the second place server and dominated home border already. Complaining about it is utterly pointless. If you want to fight the enemy then tag up and get to work. What are you waiting for, guilds to do the work, pfff?
Not at all, I and the few people I usually do WvW with are more than willing to “do the work”, nor am I complaining about a lack of commander-zerging. Though actually I barely see any guilds putting effort in capturing, usually it’s the pug blobs doing so, but that might be coincidence.
We tend to zerg quite rarely anyway, nothing more satisfying than capturing towers and keeps with just a few people, even if there’s some defense showing up. And we rarely play on our own borderlands since usually they’re under our control already.
What ticks me off is a behaviour like “oh look, over there. 4-5 of our guys trying to flip that tower…. uhm, there are some defenders in it… guess they can handle it…. oh wait, there’s a small defense squad of ~10-12 ppl passing us by and moving towards them and are about to roflstomp over them… nah, let’s ignore our fellow FSP mates, we want to keep GvG’ing right next to them”. Happens mostly on the ENEMY borderlands. If they’d GvG on our own borderlands I’d care much less. If our enemies are stupid enough to stop trying to capture our land but rather get their helmets smashed over and over again, so be it (as long as our ppl stop it if someone calls for defense).
Or calling out “enemy squad/zerg/blobb moving/attacking tower/keep X”. We try our best to defend it but sooner or later they breach the walls, roll over us, capture. We port back, just to see dozens of our people standing at spawn, chatting, trash talking, joking. As if it would be a banable offense to move out and do something without their Cmdr being present.
That’s usually the point where we go “screw it, go keep that camps and dolly’s alive yourself, have fun recapturing that keep, I’m outta here”.
Also being 50k in the lead is nice, but I see no reason to stop playing just because of that. Why not try to push the score higher? That’s totally not a winner’s attitude if you ask me.

This does not help WvW community as PvE players will maximize their personal utility at the cost of the server or semi afk, they certainly wont play WvW as intended. […]
This is hardly an argument.
There have always been, still are, and always will be people playing WvW not as intended. There are still whole guild squads rather playing GvG on borderlands instead of capping/defending objectives, there are still ppl rather duelling instead of using arenas in guild halls. I’m pretty sure the GoB change won’t add much to this.

I guess Illconceived covered most aspects anyway, so nvm, move along…

Obviously I voted for Dragon’s Watch, since all they do is watch me doing all the work.

Just saw this today, but thumbs up for that video, incredibly funny and well edited!

First of all, I’m pretty sure you ran into a troll. Don’t waste any further thoughts on him, that kitten is simply not worth it.
About small guilds having problems building their hall and upgrades- yeah, I feel you. I’m in a tiny guild myself (in fact the only active players are only my wife and myself and from time to time a friend of us, but we try to keep it alive for very similar reasons than you are), yet we managed to get our guild hall and pushed our guild level to 10.
But we’re fine with it and consider upgrading our hall as a loooooong time goal and are in now way in a hurry. Other zerg-sized guilds already hit the level cap? Nice for them, but I don’t see any real advantages they have from it. As long as we’re having fun playing it’s all good.

[…]As it is now, whenever I log in the list of Dailies that automatically show up on my UI are mostly ones that I don’t have the time nor the level of character for. I realize there are a lot more within the Hero window, of course. But it just feels like the choices have dwindled.
Well, the dailies that show up on your UI are determined by where your character hangs around at that time. So if your toon is parked (like probably most players) somewhere in the PvE world, ofc you’ll see the PvE dailies right away.
So if you don’t have much time to play and want the daily reward, you should definitely always check what else is available.
What do the rest of you think about the changes to the Daily system? And has anyone else had issues pursuing the Dailies as a result? Let’s try to have a friendly, constructive, conversation here, and not attack each other.
Dailies are totaly fine the way they are right now. There’s always one or two PvE dailies than can be done within minutes and without any effort, like Vistas or gathering materials. As for the last objective(s), there’s always something quick and easy to do. Examples were already mentioned by others: jumping puzzles (yes, there are tons of friendly mesmers around if you can’t do them by yourself), capturing ruins in WvW, kill NPCs in PvE, spend Badges, kill the WvW Harpyies.
And I didn’t mention the PvP ones yet, simply because I never ever did sPvP in the 3,5 years of me playing GW2 and yet I always managed to get my daily done without much time investment if I wanted to.

Thanks for nothing.
You’re welcome.
Seriously people getting mad about others not responding on their niche problems within hours make me shake my head.
It might have something to do with what is written in the notes: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Upgrade_Extractor
Probably the black refractor is treated the same way as the preserved queen bee.

The CPU has the HD4000 integrated so it will probably run GW2. What remains uncertain is the display resolution. If it’s a 1366×768 display, it might work out the way you plan it (all settings to low and heavy stuttering at world bosses), if it’s a HD+ or FHD display, I’m not sure if one could still consider it “playable”.
Since you already found out about notebookcheck, you might want to check their benchmarks for GW2 with the HD4000.
Best would be if someone on this forums plays on a laptop with a similar CPU using the HD4000 giving a short review how it handles GW2.
Good luck!

Should have no problems running GW2 more than well, just make sure you have an SSD harddrive built in for faster map loading times.
If I were you, I would also check other notebook retailers in your area, chances are good they offer similar deals for a better price.
On a side note- I doubt that playing with a gaming laptop on the sofa will be any fun, but that’s your buisness

Good:
- nice little appeticers
- something to do besides ones daily routine
- good story potential great idea to give a link to the White Mantle for players that don't do or read about raids
Bad:
- patch note notification is totally meh. “reports of banditry in kryta” would have never ever encouraged me to go out and play in the starting areas and check those bandits. Only learned about those secret events through dulfy
tl;dr: as long as I can look up what’s going on and where to go on sites like dulfy I like those little events giving something to do besides ones daily routine; if I had to find out about them all by myself, they wouldn’t be worth it

I’m running v364.72 with a 980M on Windows 10, and have had no issues. Generally get 60+ FPS on ultra high except in extremely crowded areas. Haven’t tried the latest version yet, will probably try updating tonight.
Just wanted to leave a quick “Thank you!” v364.72 works perfectly so far!
