A possible idea to fix getting mats

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neurion.4086

With all the new legendary weapons, armor and trinkets the supply for the t3-t6 mats is less than the demand. We do not have designated creatures to help us farm instead. Instead we have to either gold farm or keep killing hoping the mats we need will drop.

Or go to the map with the appropriate rewards and farm events.

Materials Missing from Material Storage?

I was under the impressions that the various lumber cores, feldspar cores, and pristine feathers were supposed to have slots in material storage under Scribing materials.

Was that not the case, or were they left out by accident? Are there plans to include them in the near future?

All the above you mention are labelled as “trophies”, and the game designer in charge had stated that trophies wouldn’t be included. Here is the thread:

Unidentified gear - Please No, No, No, Nooooo

I feel like there there is a major misunderstanding as to what unidentified gear is.
There is no exotic or precursor “hiding” under there <snipped> You’re not losing anything.

Wrong. There is exotic gear hiding behind Unidentified gear, as I stated on my post on the page 3 of this thread, which is related to the new Elite specialisation collections:

Spellbreaker’s specialisation collection, for example, includes an exotic dagger, Darehk’s Quick End, which, as ANet kindly inform us, is “found when identifying gear, or purchased from the Black Lion Trading Post” – if your magic find sucks. It is more than safe to say that every new Elite specialisation will include one such item.

It is clearly shown on WoodenPotatoes video here, at 11:37 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tB85m26d6GY

Also, when you don’t indentify said gear you are losing an X number -depending on your Magic Find- of rares which give ectos. Salvaging unidentified gear directly is less lucrative than the other way around.

Rude_Asura on Reddit did some tests during the demo weekend, here are the results:

Salvaging unidentified gear directly VS identifying gear before salvaging:

But as improved (?) loot drops are hidden beneath unidentified items, how can we see benefit? To get somehow reliable proof, you have to salvage A LOT. I guess how many of players will bother with that.

Demos have always plenty of loot, it’s a marketing move to sell the next expansion. Same had happened with HoT demo.
Someone on reddit went and tested salvaging unidentified gear VS identified gear. Here is the topic: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/6tidl8/loot_table_from_salvaging_85_each_unidentified/
and here are the images of his results: https://imgur.com/a/Wbxxr#Gik1vFu

Again, I’d take the results with a grain of salt as the testing was done during demo weekend. The fact is that you don’t get any Ectos from salvaging unidentified gear.

The problem is, that if we say nothing now, this system, which solves no problems but does create them for players, will go live.

No matter what we’ll say it will go live.

Yes, that’s true: you can buy identification for all the loot you have at one go – and see how much gold, in total, you waste on this “brilliant” system. THIS is really educational, in my opinion.

As I wrote on another thread, please take into account that behind Unidentified loot there are Elonian weapons hiding, which are part of a new collection and which weapons can be upgraded, aka become Exotic.

Also, if you salvage all before identification you miss on the Rare equipment, which, when salvaged, gives Ectos; so the consequence will be the Ecto price to skyrocket.

There are a lot of problems with this [old] system.

Additionally to what Sartharina said, these Elonian weapons are part of a COLLECTION, for Achievement Points and a possible reward.

Moreover, these very same Elonian weapons have a description reading that they can be upgraded to a better quality – which means Exotic, and which is probably the reason we get so much mats in loots from chest.

One thing is clear so far: PoF is going to be a huge mats and gold sink, and those who say that this system, of Unidentifying loot, is fine don’t know what they are talking about. If you think ANET would ever give you more inventory space, plain and simple, out of their good heart you delude yourselves.

So. I’m doing the story in a small map CRAMMED with enemies, I reach the point I have to deal with the abomination in the cave and while I try to figure out how am I suppose to kill it I die.

The really interesting part is not that my character died, but that when I clicked “retry” I found my character being at the start of the instance BUT barred out of the cave, with no apparent way to go in again, because some “genius” thought to “imprison” us during the battle.

When I walked out of the instance the loading screen sent me to the Sorrow’s Eclipse Sanctuary, instead of leaving me in the same area. Which means that IF I decide to retry the story instance I’ll have to run across half the map.

ArenaNet, do you honestly think that such game design decisions are fun and appealing?

Less players going to East and more going to the other gates so as long as it stays this way theres no need to do anything.

Even if it doesn’t stay this way, and all the lazy hats start flocking on the East gate again, ANet shouldn’t do anything. The issue lies in the players, not in ANet.

You can speculate all you want, but that doesn’t change the bad writing. I honestly believe based on the writing that someone at Anet has a crush on Lazarus. He just doesn’t fit in this story.

I think the whole team have a crush on the Mursaat [and Mesmers], but this doesn’t justify throwing Lazarus out of the blue.

As a personal preference I’d had liked it better if the sub-plot was about politics, Caudecus throwing DR into Chaos causing civil unrest, etc.

Instead of blindly believing what they said, is not commonsense to ask some evidence for that? Something taking into consideration how many MC are generated daily / how many are used / how many are needed for players long term goals and are stored / how many are used for speculations on the market? Did they make such an analysis? If YES – why they don’t share the results with us – just to support they words? If NOT – how can we consider that statement as true?
<snipped>

If you disagree with what they’re saying then chances are that you’d disagree with whatever evidence they provided.

This is a fallacious argument. “I say” does not equate with “I prove.”

You have a set belief on what is going on and anything that doesn’t fit that narrative you will dispute.

It takes one to know one.

For the next expansion, I’d like to see players own a house inside their home instance.
We could buy it empty and start crafting the decorations and furniture we want our house to have. This will need a new working bench and/or a Master crafter, inside or outside of the home instance, to accommodate our newly aquired crafting profession and provide us with new recipes, like crafting a bed, a painting, external lamps, etc.

The property contracts could be either given upon purchase of the expansion pack, or sold through the gem store.

Other players could visit our house when we are in a party, much like home instance works right now.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

This event has been failing frequently recently due to the players on the East burning down the Octovine extremely fast compared to the other gates, especially West and North which seem to be getting less and less players who actually know what to do, so that the entire event times out and fails.
As the East gate is the easiest to do, its where most players go, so the other gates dont get enuf, or if they do, the players dont know what to do.
Obvious examples are players attacking the octovine when its got slime protection on.
The obvious solution is to get players from East to come and help at the other gates, but they either dont understand the problem or dont want to help.
I dont know what the fix is to this , but some kind of balancing of the gate difficulty might help if it gets a more equal number of players on each gate.

The “fix” is people to be knowledgeable of what they need to do for the event to succeed.

Lately there are players, including Commanders, in AB who don’t know what exactly to do. At North gate, for example, you need to kill the breacher once inside, to prevent further spawning of mobs, and shoot herbicides at the octovine to get rid of its layers protection, before using your own weapons to bring its health bar down.

The last two times I was there, just random squads, not ML ones, and while we are waiting outside the gate for the event to start, the Commanders didn’t ask “Does everyone know what to do?” or, “Any new player with questions about what to do?”

Once inside they didn’t give an order for the breacher to be killed. When I asked for help to kill it, only a single player responded to my call.

When people used their own weapons to bring the layers down no Commander told them they do it wrong. I shouted normal weapons are ineffective, and that they should use the bramble begone, but no one listened to me.

Four (4) players in armours were pushing the triggerblossoms to our direction: right in front of the octivine, resulting in players being downed and/or being killed. The Commander didn’t issue any orders, even when a couple of us started complaining about it.

I stayed till the end only to see the event failing miserable. The second time was just a deja vu: people were repeating the same mistakes. I left.

My advice to new players and aspired Commanders is this: Perhaps having a Commander tag is all nice and dandy, but unless you know what to do, and how to guide people to a successful outcome, please don’t put it up. Also, people should listen to their fellow players when they tell them what to do in a nice and civilised manner.

NCsoft's Earnings Report

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neurion.4086

Neurion.4086

looks like their oldest game makes about as much money as all the games released after it together

Lineage breaks all the rules. It’s been called the WoW of Korea. It failed in the West but it’s so popular in Korea that it just keeps making money, much like WoW keeps making money. People have invested so much money into it over the years, they’re not likely to stop playing without kitten ed good reason.

My experience of Lineage II back in 2005 [when Chronicle 3 was released] on Gustin server…

The leveling is horrible slow, like needing to grind lots of monsters to advance to the next level and finally reach level 20 where your first class change quest starts.

The open world PvP means that while you’re in the fields killing mobs anyone can appear and kill you for “fun”. When you are killed you are granted “death penalty”, which means you lose a percentage of your leveling progress, which in turn costs you time, which also costs you money because Lineage II is a game with a monthly subcription.

Drops from fights or rewards are horrible compared to the game economy. Clans play a vital role in the game in the sense they help their members with gear. Normal players can’t simply play the game solo, like GW2, because they will need years of grinding to craft or buy their class specific weapons and armour – when you earn a few adenas per day buying a weapon that costs millions of adena is not an option.

At this point it is worth mentioning that crafting doesn’t guarantee a finished product. You might have all the mats needed to craft a Soul bow, for example, but there are two messages you will get: either “X crafted Soul bow” or “X failed to craft Soul bow.”

The game is infested with Chinese farmers, a.k.a gold sellers. They are small companies who own hundred of accounts and use bots to farm mats and adena. Some areas in the game are more profitable than others, and they will kill players who go near their bot “working place”.

There is a lot of trash talk on the map chat blaming big clans for corruption, a.k.a. protecting the above mentioned farmers’ bots for their benefit – which, by the way, is true at some point or another. Any thread mentioning bots on the official forum, and how NCSoft NA didn’t do anything about it, meant instant lock.

At the time I am refering to, there is no official shop, like our gem store, in-game: all the market is in the hands of individual players and farmers.

Three years later I realised that no investement of money and time were capable of keeping me playing this appalling game. I quit and never looked back. [Most of my clan-mates also left around that time for the very same reasons.]

I know things have changed a lot since then, and the system has greatly improved in some areas; but if Korean servers are anything like Western servers used to be, I wonder how this mess of a game managed to survive over the years.

Of course, Lineage II was never meant for the casual player, but rather for the hard-core PvPers who didn’t need an excuse to go outside of town and kill whatever moved.

In my view, ANet’s Guild Wars 2 is like a paradise on earth in comparison, and I’m grateful for that [and also grateful to a friend who convinced me to try it]. I hope GW2 continues to improve and do better in the future, because it deserves it.

Hardened Leather Section 30 silver? Wha???

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Neurion.4086

Neurion.4086

From the perspective of an average player like myself, not someone who has been playing since beta or, someone filthy rich…

The drop/salvage rate of hardened leather section has become abysmal.
If I am unable to craft a full exotic armour for a new character I don’t see how I could supply the market with what I can spare.

The price of one piece of cured hardened leather closing to 1 gold is absurd in general, but it makes perfect sense when we consider the rarity of hardened leather sections.

In short ANet need to increase said rate, even without openly admitting it – so the so-called “John Smith” could come back to us at a later date and tell us in a straight face, “I told you the market will be self-regulated.” :P

[Suggestion] Demote Redundant Champs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neurion.4086

Neurion.4086

(look what happened to the starter zones when anet did that to those champs…maps once full for the champ trains became instantly empty).

The trouble with the champ trains was that map chat was full of people bickering and arguing about who ‘owns’ what champions and who isn’t allowed to kill a champ on their own because a train is entitled to kill them. This being in a starter zone was very toxic for players who first started the game. It’s not a good impression, so sorry, but the Queensdale champ train being taken away was a welcome change from me.

They should maybe increase the reward to motivate people to do them more often

If they increased the reward for said champs, I would endorse it if it did guarantee that it’d increase participation. But I doubt it would happen given that there are better ways to gain loot these days than killing the champs we’re discussing here. (Especially the AB chest farm thingy that I’m hearing so much about).

I can’t understand why people always wants easier content in pve.

I’m not asking for easier content. I’m asking for content to be scaled for more probable participation. The difficulty can remain the same, just doable for fewer people.

It’d probably be more difficult, given that a champ with 50 people turning up, all you need is to repeatedly press 111111111111 (like in your ‘challenging’ Queensdale champ train). A scaled down champ with 3 or 4 people turning up there’d actually be some skill involved with a few dodges.

It already is doable for any amount of people. But the fewer people around the more personal effort you have to put in. If there are 3 people around you are 33% of the crowd. If there are 50 people around you are 2% of the crowd. So you cannot rely on other people carrying you if there are fewer people around.

Agreed.
Today I did Flyrra the Remorseless and Lenner the Eagle-Eyed with two other people who appeared after a call in map chat. It surely took us longer than usual, but we killed them.
Maybe Varre the Underhanded and Ezal the Quick need 4 or 5, but bandit champions are generally doable with a small number of people.

I still don’t endorse the scaling down of these fights.

This can be frustrating for some players, especially new players, or ones who haven’t done the achievements yet. So I recommend demoting a few of the ‘event’ champs down to Elite or perhaps Veteran status now, in-line with the lower demand to complete them.

New players should band together and defeat champions as older players did when these events first appeared; or ask their guild-mates, or their friends, or even other people using the map chat. For the bandit champions, in particular, I see people everyday doing them.

I don’t endorse scaling these events down, they should stay as they are. What ANet could do though, to help the situation, is to include these champions more often in the dailies.

How are new players meant to band together when they don’t know each other?

I’ve already told you how: use the map chat.

When I started leveling my Chef discipline, for example, I used this site http://gw2crafts.net (although I’m sure there should be others out there as well) and hadn’t had any problem, but I had had already 100% map completion, all heart vendors available, and plenty of crafting materials.

Did you bring the cat a Stranded Skritt before feeding it the Plate of Fire Flank Steak?

No, I didn’t, because I had no idea it was needed.
Many thanks, Inculpatus! One more kitty for my home instance.

The skritt heart/merchant has been fixed, but the cat still … doesn’t recognise the fix.
This was also an issue before fixing the skritt merchant. Can we now have a fix for the kitty as well?

P.S. I have already completed the heart after the daily reset.

The machine parts are bugged. You find 4 parts easily, but then there is no 5th part to complete the task. When I asked on the map chat another player confirmed there is a bug and suggested me to log off and log back in – which solved the problem.
