Confirmed successful achievement here! Did on asura arena and followed the build Sird descripted in the third post.

Felt good to finally complete this difficult achievement. It was rewarding to progress and get consistently 8 orbs on her and finally kill too!

Scarlet event makes the game lag

So here I am in Divinity’s reach, 10am GMT. Scarlet event pops but it’s in sparkfly fen which I have done already, so not really interested in participating. Instead I decide to complete the Scarlet instance. As I would guess from the last evening @ wpvp, the lag is unbearable as soon as the event starts: skill lag, movement lag, chat lag. Everything happens within a delay of 10sec-60sec. I consult my guild chat: lag in EB, lag in lions arch, lag in black citadel.

What I find worrisome is that it is not even close to prime time. It’s 10AM GMT and not even on a weekend. Soon it will be weekend and there will be a lot of free trialers. What will be their first impression of this game if it’s going to lag like this?

Wow. It must suck to not get a credit even if you were successful on what is probably one of the hardest tasks in the game. Rest assured, if you were able to do it thrice, you will probably make it through once they fix it (if it is bugged, that is)

There is still plenty of variables we don’t know yet. At least these came to my mind:

1. Champs (slave driver) don’t drop coin any more but they might drop valuables like crafting materials, which might be actually worth more coin compared to what you get now.

2. We are most likely going to get 1 gold for the first cof1 run but how does dr work here? Is it 0 coin after that all the time or what?

Why do you after pay money to craft upto 400? I levelled all 8 crafts to 400 for ‘free’ by just playing the game and collecting mats by playing, if you have 2 characters already haven’t you already got a pile of mats stored up in your collectables?

No. You spent your valuable time in collecting those mats, which you could have been spending elsewhere, for instance farming something more profitable.

Also, it’s not free since you lose the opportunity to sell your materials for profit.

The lack of communication on this issue is frustrating. The question whether the amulets/accessories will have inherent infusion at all has been brought up numerous times on the forums since the release of the amulets. Not a single time has developer commented such a topic.

Thus, Mr Hrouda. You (and John from the SAB) have my uttermost respect from being regularly in touch with your community through the forums. Can you comment on this one too? If you don’t know/decide about the ascended items, can you have a coffee break with someone who does and ask him/her about it?

Would help a lot with informed decisions in terms of adding expensive infusions!

^
just that.

i can’t believe people even tried to get that grindy achievement through the story.
especially 700k karma is not that much and it takes long enough to do the achievement by only standing in the monastery in queesndale and leftklicking the whole time.
2 klicks to buy, 2 klicks to consume. in total 100000 klicks since each keg nets 4 points.

In the personal story missions you could find these elixir bottle bundles. Skill #3 could be set to auto-attack for afk-drinking. This gained you 1 point to title per 1,5sec, no money or karma required. Setting this all up would need 2 minutes of effort.

No, it’s not 1000, or even 10,000, it’s100,000 drinks. Contrary to what they said at launch, it just seems like Anet is making this game more and more of a grind, at the expense of the fun. I still think it’s the best mmo around, but things like this are just frustrating. Everyone enjoys finding the little loopholes and tricks. It’s a valid part of the game as long as it doesn’t give anyone an advantage over another player or cause imbalance.

100,000 is kind of absurd with this new fix. Using the current cheapest drink on the TP it would take 290g worth of drinks to get this, in addition to the 100,000 spam clicks you’d have to do. They should reduce it down to 1000, like the food achievement.

Okay, so I was thinking of leveling an alt and thought that thief would be fun and the stealth useful in some parts of the game. I am an avid fractal runner, doing lvl48 quite often, so it got me thinking I could put my alt to good use and learn to solo the switch in the first part of dredge fractal. I would keep running fotm on my main (ele) but thief alt could come in handy whenever the dredge fractal rears its ugly head.

The thing is, I’m just starting the thief class and in need of guidance that what skills and traits people generally use to achieve the stealth required to use the switch. IIRC the switch activation time is 20s (?) + 5-6 seconds of stealth running through the dredge masses. What exactly is required to be able to solo this?

As for cognitive dissonance I see you read nothing but the picture with the fox.
FYI it’s not just you alter your cognition to match with your behavior. It’s also altering the behavior to match your cognition. Think how this applies to you.

A quote from the page you linked:

“Dissonance is aroused whenever individuals voluntarily engage in an unpleasant activity to achieve some desired goal. Dissonance can be reduced by exaggerating the desirability of the goal. "

MMOs are a long-term study in cognitive dissonance.

Precisely. It’s pretty cool to be able to recognize some psychological mechanisms that are used in the gameplay to maximize brand loyalty and people staying in the game. It’s useful information helping you to critically examine why you engage in some sort of behavior (like playing the game without actually enjoying that much).

Of course not. Thus “I consider”. Only my opinion. Everyone values their money from their own perspective of view.

“And as far as not supporting the game by not paying money for Gems, because the game has let you down, you think people dont know this?”

Apparently not. As people generally shoot down anyone recommending to take a step away from the game.

Another good example of that is when anet releases new rare skins that are only available from the black lion chest RNG. People buy 100 of them with money and don’t get a single skin they were looking for. Then they come to the forums and complain about the chest RNG, when the right decision in the first place would have been not to support such a crappy rip-off system. As long as players support the system enough (vote with their wallets) then it won’t change any time soon.

As for cognitive dissonance I see you read nothing but the picture with the fox.

snip

“So why are you trying to tell me what a movie is worth and then telling him that YOU THINK hes 2 level 80s is more than the moneys worth he paid for the game?”

I just try to lay ground for reasonable expectations. Of course it’s subjective, but there is a limit of how much one single game can deliver. How much do you think you have to play to get the moneys worth? Do you think the OP values his money the same way you do? If we look GW1 as an example, servers will probably be up for another five years at least. How much do you have to play each day to maximize the worth of precious 70 dollars you spent?

“Secondly, Telling someone to stop playing the game is not constructive nor is it helpful. Especially not for the company or the community”

This is correct. This topic is about the OP though, and for him the best decision may be to step away from the game for a while. I think its not advisable to make critical decisions like this based on the needs of the community or even less of the company who made the game.

Like I said, the best way to deliver your dissatisfaction with the game is not to play it, which also shows in Anet’s statistical data of players actively playing. This would force them to listen to needs of the player-base more instead of other way around. Who was the customer again? Do the customers exist for the product or the other way around?

Indeed I play for my own satisfaction, not to serve a community or a company. If you don’t, we have some fundamental difference in thinking there.

“You are aware we can convert gold to gems right. :|”

Sure. If you check some threads in BLTC sub-forum concerning that topic you will see some people use real money, some in-game gold. All we have is anecdotal evidence of how many chest keys are bought with the real money, but I think it can be reliably said that RNG-practice will go on as long as it is most profitable way for Anet to sell their items. That is how business works I guess. So quite a bit of money is involved, no matter if the gems can be attained with gold too.

“Again, you don’t know what you’re talking about secondly don’t make assumptions.
1) You’re not a psychologist. "

Hehe. Actually this is not correct. I work in a clinical setting though, so cognitive/social psychology is not really my specialty. Cognitive dissonance still has a fair share of implications in therapy I apply (namely cognitive-behavioral).

“This is specifically BUYER’S REMORSE.
You buy something expecting it to be what it was supposed to be but turns out it isnt.
You have 2 choices, put it on the shelf and let it collect dust or try to find entertaining out of it.”

Well yes, which is subsidiary concept to cognitive dissonance. And yes, that was exactly what I meant about how it applies to you too. You have those two choices and then it boils down to what you value more. The community of the game you don’t like anymore and the company who made the game or your personal enjoyment.

For personal enjoyment (my point of view), stepping away from the game is not bad advice at all. It bemuses me that you can’t even consider it as a proper option, thus my first reference to dissonance.

Okay, thank you for clarifying.

Well, that depends on how much you think you have to play in order to get your “moneys worth”. Going to movie here costs about 10€. If the movie lasted 3h it would mean that 18 hours of movies equals 60 euro. I consider that once you start to reach around 100h mark (which is entirely possible in op’s case if he has 2 lvl80) you have gotten more than your money’s worth. You can also forget about the game and return later if the game has something interesting to offer.

If the product does not meet your expectations (manifesto’s genuineness is a different topic altogether), the best way to deliver the message is not to play and not to use the gem store. Vote with your wallet and don’t waste any more time and effort to something you don’t actually enjoy.

Also for more fancy psychological concepts
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance
I think it applies very well to you. You play because you want to “justify” yourself the money you spent under the false premises of manifesto. I don’t think it’s the most enjoyable way to approach the game.

Really? I think the most definitive answer to being unmotivated is not to play and do something that brings more entertainment for one’s leisure time. It’s amusing that if someone suggests “not to play” he is immediately shot down for not being constructive.

Players seem to have this old MMO-mindset that you have to keep on playing the game and try to find something enjoyable from the end-game even though you don’t have the intrinsic motivation to play anymore and it feels more like a chore. It’s simply not an option to do something else for the time being? To wait for the next patch for example and see if it brings anything interesting to the table?

Do you actually understand what you’ve just said or were you copy pasting big words?

Feeling unmotivated is not the same as NOT being motivated at all.

What’s the intrinsic motivation for this game them?
Gear grinding for legendary and ascended crap?
that’s extrinsic, you’re doing all this pointless stuff just to get those items, its not something you actually enjoy doing, its something you have to do to get it.

Intrinsic rewards would be the activities themselves are rewarding

Indeed. I share this same definition with you and I’m referring to it in my previous post. If the game itself does not feel like fun and rewarding in itself (thus no intrinsic motivation), why keep playing it? People seem to think that you just have to keep running in the treadmill, desperately trying to find something enjoyable to do, while it’s just as possible to leave the treadmill altogether and find something else to spend your time on.

As for the rest of your post, I honestly have no idea what you are trying to accomplish exactly or what is your point. Could you clarify? How was that relevant to my post or the OP?

If you don’t feel like playing the game. Don’t play the game.

Pretty simple.

If you have nothing constructive to say don’t say it.
Pretty simple.

back to the topic.

I feel the same way as you do.
The story content just isnt there.
This game feels more geared towards killing each other than actually being an everchanging world where things happen around you and react to it.

Really? I think the most definitive answer to being unmotivated is not to play and do something that brings more entertainment for one’s leisure time. It’s amusing that if someone suggests “not to play” he is immediately shot down for not being constructive.

Ironically you don’t bring anything constructive to the discussion either. You don’t seem to get so much enjoyment from the game anymore. Do you still play the game? If you do, why? What motivates you? “If you don’t feel like playing the game, don’t play the game” might be relevant piece of advice for you just as well.

Nerf'd rare dye from laurels

This topic is just plain terrible. Like what. Like seriously. Please check this fact out:

“So I’m thinking, okay, this is cool. It should only be a few months till we both have the color’s we want on most of our toons.”

Alright. seems reasonable. Then:

“Yeah, RNG is random and all that bullcrap, whatever.”

Indeed, and that’s why you don’t have to rely on RNG. Let’s see the raw numbers:

If you do 5 dailies, it equals 5 laurels which equals 10 unidentified dyes as you very well know. You can sell these 10 unid dyes in TP for guaranteed 1 gold 50 silver, maybe even a bit more.

At the time of this post there are whopping 6 dyes out of 403 that are above the price of 1 gold 50 silver (namely abyss, celestial, midnight fire/ice, black and white). So there it is. Only 397 possible dyes are available for you after doing five dailies. Surely it’s hard to get colors you want on your toons.

Also I love your logic that when when you got lots of rares in the beginning it was “cool” and now when you did not it must have been “nerfed”. No, it’s RNG in the works right there.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/20356 clearly nerfed.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/20359 this too.

No there has not as far as I know, which is quite disappointing in terms of communicating and informing the community. The issue has been bought up on these forums often enough since first people got their amulets.

On bugs section a dev has confirmed it’s a bug that new ascended rings added in the February patch cannot be infused at mystic forge. It remains mystery whether it’s a bug or intended that this is the case with amulets and earrings too.

I guess the next tuesday will show us. Especially if the rings are patched but the amulets and earrings are not. I still wouldn’t put any expensive infusion to them until I we get the (infused) version or a dev confirmation that it’s intended that they only give +5AR.

Ah, so we know for a fact earrings can’t go into the forge still? I haven’t gotten mine yet.
May be intended then, but it’d be nice to have Dev word on this.

Actually now you mention it, I’m not 100% sure about the earrings since I don’t remember reading about them and I will get my first own earring in a four days. IIRC there hasn’t been a single lfg post above 35ar though.

Sorry OP, I laughed at your post

1. Play you own way. This means you can pick any 5 achievements for you daily category to complete so you have to grind as minimally as possible. It can’t get any better than that.

2. Gold will be inflated. Yeah right. But you can say this from pretty much everything other players do in the game since most of the activities just generate gold to system out from nothing. If you are going to argue like that you must prevent others from playing at. No wpvp because it inflates the gold and punishes you. No cof p1. No world bosses. It all punishes you in the end. Because this game is about you. In fact the 5s and karma that the daily generates is least of you inflation-causing worries.

That is what we’re aiming for. I’ll update if that changes.

Do you know if the new amulets and earrings are affected by this “issue” too, or is it intended that they can not be inherently infused in mystic forge? Thanks in advance!

Question about infusions

If you ask about the infusions you put into the infusion slot: They can be “overwritten” by another infusion just like the other upgrades for items.

Any plans of adding the MF recipe for inherent infusions like there are for backpieces and rings? Like “The Amulet (infused)” or “The Earring (infused)”? Would really like to know this!

Why are prices not dropping

In terms of supply and demand, it seems that while supply has gone up, so is demand. Ofc not so much as we have seen prices drop from 40s to 25s.

There is a steady demand for ectos, since so many end-game items require them. It might be the case that many of the chest farmers are saving the ectos for their own purpose of use: whether it be for buying exotics for alt or the new ascended accessories with the laurels. Increased supply and the prices dropping might have encouraged some people to start investing in ectos while they may have previously perceived them more out of reach.

At what level do you get the Priority banner?

Around 38-40 range.

This is correct. At this point you also get the corresponding achievement, which would be “defending the history; informing the future” in priory’s case.

it has always counted skill points, no matter how one earned said skill point

Incorrect. It counted only the skill points you earned from the map locations. If this is indeed changed, very nice!

Lack of communication on Anet’s part regarding to ascended infusions is indeed frustrating.

On the bug section of the forums I’ve seen a dev admitting as a mistake that new rings added with february patch cannot be inherently infused, as the recipes are not available in MF. This might very well be the case with the amulets and earrings too, as GW2DB shows that (infused) counterparts of the items are already in the game, not just available to craft in mystic forge. It’s extremely frustrating for those who bought new rings for their stat-combinations and are unable to infuse them now.

As a layman I would think that adding the recipe to the forge for new items doesn’t require that much of a work for them. But what do I know. I for one, will save my expensive infusion until we can inherently infuse the item first.
