It’s been 3 months since the last dev statement on this, which was spreading quite some hope. Any news?
It would be a good chance to make up for the IP change …
Hi Aelen
I am also quite new to the Engi, however, I have a blast! It also took me some time to find a build which is fun for me. I started with a regular HGH build and switched to the SD build but both did not work for me. So I watched some youtube and twitch videos and saw some guys who were more reliant to kits and the perplexity runes. Many Engineers do not like to use it as the perplexity runes are quite a bit overpowered but it is fun and it takes some time to get used to it. But it is very effective.
My build looks something like this when I roam:
The good part about it is you can easily switch to a more Zerg friendly option if you bring in grenades and change the explosives traits. Also I am thinking of switching Rocket Boots with Elexir S after the update because I often have problems getting stomps when soloing ppl.
The build is not yet finalized but it is quite solid and it makes fun. But you will be abusing an overpowered rune, if you do not have problems with that maybe this is something for you?
Guildmate got ascended weapon drop in WvW yesterday. I think with new magic find chances on better drops become significantly higher.
Well MF is fine and all but if there is like a 1% chance to get an Exotic drop and you have 200% Magic find increase you will have a total chance of 3% to get an Exotic. But as far as I know if anything has already 20% (like Blues and Greens) it will also go up to 60%. So the problem is that you have a higher chance of getting anything over nothing at all but I am not quite sure how the system increases your chance of getting anything usefull (Exotic / Ascended) in this case at all….
I am low rank 38/20/18 and cant recall my other characters ranks. Not a single exotic let alone an ascended.
Hi Bailey. Are those your WvW Rank or your actualy Character lvl’s?
WvW Rank shouldn’t have an impact on the drop rate. However, if those are your lvl’s Exotic do not drop yet. I think the lowest Exotic lvl gear is lvl 62. Since the drops are scaled to your actual lvl you propably wont get any Exotic drops until you hit around 60+.
Hope this helps.
If you have a decent spread of alts, you can probably make use of every weapon stat.
It’s a shame there’s a certain character-based levelling system that completely undermines that, though…
WvW is not really alt-friendly which makes it even difficult to try and get a set of ascendeds for one character. If you craft it you can ofcourse choose the stats but as far as I have seen this is either a rough and/or an expensive way to go.
(edited by Nime.2089)
The “No grind involved” ment that you don’t have to do it to stay competitive. Sure, that little extra from ascended does help, but it’s not necessary. I have yet to touch a single piece of ascended and I’m doing fairly good to be honest. You can do well enough with pure exotic set and you do fairly well with it.
“No grind involved” doesn’t mean you will be handed everything on a silver plate.
Wait until ascended armor is introduced. If you are full exotic against full ascended I think the difference will very well matter…
I wasn’t referring to the Orange Swords but to the Contested Sign that appears on the Green/Red/Blue Ball of the Building when anything gets attacked. As far as I know there is no way around that.
I don’t say they shouldn’t reward defending a structure, however, just standing in one keeping Sieges alive and alarming everyone when a Zerg arrives? I don’t think that there is any reasonable argument that this should be rewarded.
I can’t think of any other game that has gone from ‘we won’t make this a grind fest’ to the complete opposite in a year.
The chances of getting an ascended drop in wvw is an easy question to answer- less likely than winning the lottery when you don’t buy a ticket for it.
Chances of being able to equip more than one toon with ascended gears and trinkets including armor and the multitude of weapons you need to run wvw builds, none.
Time it will take you if you decide to pve the necessary items and spend all day looking for ori nodes then level your crafting ON EACH TOON – years.
Well done Anet, congratulations on being the MMO that broke the rules…..
That is the answer I feared will be correct. I was hoping that the statements Anet has made multiple times, that they will not introduce superior gear only a few can access with unreasonable effort, were still true… Obviously they have changed their minds.
As it is up to every Guild/Group to reward a Scout or a Guard for his/her work I do not think that Anet needs to reward something they maybe did not even intend us to do…
I mean it might help if someone can call if a Zerg attacks a Tower/Keep but that’s what the “Two-Crossed-Swords-Icon” on the Map view is for. Why reward someone doing exactly what an Icon can do by itself?
Regarding the Sieges which disappear after a certain time: Well I can just say it is obviously not intended to have a Tower armed by more Sieges than people can build with the Supply available to them. And I think this is actually a good system as the attacking party has to have a chance to actually win the Tower/Keep with the limited ressources they can carry.
Isn’t it more fun winning back a Tower/Keep than having people watching over them?
Just my opinion, but I think it’s just right that they don’t reward anything that is not fun doing…
Ascended trinkets are available in WvW for a reasonable ammount of Badges + Laurels and some for Ectos. This can all be completely achieved in WvW itself. Now it is clear that we will not be able to get all crafting materials etc. required to craft ascended weapons from WvW but they are supposed to drop from Camps, Towers, Keeps and JP’s (pls correct me if I am wrong), but does anyone know the drop rate of it? Has anyone already received an ascended weapon as drop?
I just want to get an overview how likely it is that all player can get access to ascended equipment without spending a ton of time in PvE or spending around 200g + for the “buyable” parts only to reach lvl 500 in the crafting discipline where I want to start creating an ascended weapon…
The problem is, we are only 10% of GW2: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/guild-wars-2-the-first-year/
This is a short term event… I am not sure what the issue here is. We aren’t even sure what is going to happen in 4 weeks from now when this event ends.
Can I refer to this post?

Maybe those invasions are not as temporary as you think…
What happens when you Mug while having the trait Hidden Killer? (In stealth of course)
how those 2 skills are related ? i can’t see the connection o_O
I guess he wanted to know if Mug can crit when Hidden Killer should apply (100% crit chance in Stealth)
you get revealed… and NO, you do not reenter stealth because of hidden thief. Why are you even asking in the forum?
a) it is obvious
b) you can EASILY try it out yourself
I guess he wanted to know about the crit and not about re-entering stealth…
First of: As long as a build suits your playstile numbers or anything do not matter that much. However, I think it’s wise to ask for some feeback.
I also had some troubles figuring out what exactly you are doing with this build. But in general it looks rather supportive than anything else. Assuming that you want to heal your teammates and/or damage your enemies with the symbols I strongly recommend to look into the Staff instead of the GS. The Staff has a groundtargeted symbol which can be applied every 15 seconds and with empower and orb of light you can be even more supportive to your team. GS symbol is placed where you stand and can only be applied every 20 seconds.
Try to get 15 points in radiance to get renewed justice and rignet Mastery. This will greatly improve your sustainability (more blinds, heals and better dmg output). If you get those points from zeal or valor is up to you. But I personaly would take them from zeal…
Last but not least I would consider to swap save yourselves for signet of judgement. SYS is very dangerous if you come across a mean necro and since you have faster signet recharge it synergises well.

There are a lot of people complaining around the forums in every professions section. However, I am quite certain that every class still has viable builds. There are just certain days or weeks where you see more complaining threads on the front pages instead of interesting build discussions. But that will change again!
As for what you are looking for is a Thief for Solo and maybe a Guardian for Group Support. But as already mentioned pretty much any class has viable builds for both. Some are better suited, some less…
If your funds allow it the fastest way would be crafting. There are some really good guides on the web how to get to lvl 400 very fast and still rather cheap. I think the 2 cheapest professions to master are Cook and Artificier the most rewarding one is Jewelcrafting (I think you can get all 3 of them to 400 with around 15g). One profession will give you 10 lvl’s. Try to use the more exp on crafting boon.
You can try to do 1 profession and then get back to PVE to do evrything you can again and then go back crafting… That way you should reach the 80ies within the next few days.
D/P is superior to D/D in every single way in the current meta.
I can’t quite agree to this statement. Obviously D/P has a better variety and offers more diversity when it comes to adapting to a situation. But the initial Burst potential is higher with D/D than with D/P.
Weapon swaps should be the ideal choice for closing gaps.
Yes that might be true. But unfortunately then you have to wait for 9 seconds until you can go back to your burst set. And chances are that you either lose distance again within that time or your enemy heals completely.
With D/D it is very difficult to keep up with anyone but I think with 1 – 2 heartseeker, Signet of Shadows, Thrill of Crime etc. we do have some possibilities to match the speed of anyone else.
Hi PhyZiX.
Don’t give up! I had a hard time getting started with my Thief in PVE but suddenly (Way after 80) I got the hang out of it. Unfortunately I do not know much about the Warrior as I did not come past the 20ies when I tried lvling it. But maybe a link like this one can help you? https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/Any-Solo-Warrior-PvE-Builds-Out-There/first#post2585271
If you want to do some dungeons (low lvl dungeons can actually help you getting good equipment!) try to use gw2lfg.com. Don’t be shy, Ascalonian Catacombs, Caudecus’s Manor or Twilight Arbor are perfectly feasible on your lvl. Maybe just try to find a Build that doesn’t get you killed to fast. If you do a Dungeon the first time, stay back and listen to other players and do what they are doing.
I hope this helps somehow.

For targeting I mostly use Tab. The information provided on the enemy (Health, Class, Boons etc.) is a good tool to actually look for a suitable prey. For instance if I happen to Tab on a Guardian with full health and Aegis up I tend to go to the next one etc. Distance is mostly not a problem and therfore not included in the main criterias of selecting a target.
During this process I can use AOE the whole time. Once a target is selected I go in, try to kill my target and go back AOE and start over again.
But other than Klick or Closest Target/Tab there is no other viable option.
My choice would be the following:
Shadow’s Embrace (Very usefull in WvW), Infusion of Shadow (D/P is using a lot of init!) and Shadow’s Rejuvenation.
Explanation why not the others:
You also use Hide in Shadows which provides Regeneration. The Regen of Protector does not apply if you already have regen. So there you already go better with Reju. And if we trigger Hide in Shadows we usually need any tick of healing available…
Since you use D/P you have already access to a Blindfield and two Blinding shots. You do not need anymore, so yes a Thief can have to many blinds!
Edit: Oh and I didn’t even notice you are using Blinding Powder as well! Definitely not Cloaked in Shadow…

I think “Sleight of Hand” belongs in any 10/30/0/0/30 build. It also Dazes your target for one second and reduces the recharge to 21 seconds.
I would either switch it in for Bountiful Theft or maybe Flanking Strike. 5% less dmg (depending on your position) to nearly 75% Vigor uptime is a price you might want to consider.
Please note that BT gives 15 seconds of Vigor (your description is 10) and that your main ability is “Steal” and not “Stealth” (mentioned throughout your description). This information might be missleading.
Honestly, I think this also applies to Rams and Catas in some way. The one who is occupied by handling the Siege is forced to stay where he is while other ppl can run around and gain way more WXP in the same time. This is one of the main reasons why I do not like to Siege at all. Boring and not rewarding.
Since 49’705’000 WXP is required to reach Diamond Legend I would say account wide levels are the obvious choice.
“Birthday Gifts! As characters created right at the launch of Guild Wars 2 hit their first birthdays, it’s time to introduce our first Birthday Gift! Characters that are one year old will receive a Mini Queen Jennah, a 24-hour Birthday Booster, and a Scroll of Experience."
Does it mean that if I have created a Character in one if my Account Slots on the first day but deleted that one by now, I will not get the Gift? Or do they mean Account by Character?
My own build. I doubt it’d be considered any good, but here it is:
Gear:
Full Berserker with Ruby Orbs.Traits:
-10 Mug
-20 Furious Retaliation, Side Strike
-0
-20 Power of Inertia, Vigorous Recovery
-20 Thrill of the Crime, Bountiful Theft
Every build has it’s place as long as it suits you.
As for Sigils I would recommend to have multiple weapon sets. Use the Superior Sigil of Bloodlust until you have 25 Stacks then change to another one. That way you can have +250 Power and still benefit from other sigils afterward as the stacks remain even if you do not use the weapon anymore.
As for other Sigils I would also recommend using a permanent one (e.g. +5% Dmg Force or +5% Crit chance Accuracy) and an on crit one. On crit you can either use Sigil of Blood (very nice), Sigil of Fire or Sigil of Air (rather take Fire as it hits multiple enemies).
If you use a Shortbow I would definitely recommend Sigil of Fire.
There you can only get rings and buy the backpeace. The Rings drop from daily chest starting from Fractals 10+ but as a possible bonus only… If you run a lot of Fractals you can hope that the right stats once drop. But as you asked for a fast way I would tend on buying them…
If you can get basic salvage kits for 77 karma each it is nowhere near woth it. Not with all the piles of unused karma in my wallet…
Well i’ts not really worth it. You still have to pay 3 copper per salvage… I wouldn’t spend the 800 Gems on that one!
If you play WvW a lot and are sitting on tons of badges I would recommend buying your ascended stuff there. You can save some laurels but have to spend a lot of badges.
Otherwise I can only say daylies, monthlies and achievement points… There is no other way than that.
Create a new character.
Level new character to level 80 using new keybinds in PvE only (no dungeons, no crafting, no WvW, no Living Story… okay maybe a little Living Story).
Change what does and does not work only every 10 levels.
I did the same with my G700. I think the easiest way to adjust your control settings is with learning a complete new class. Once I have been at lvl 50 or so I didn’t even notice no more what I’ve been doing…
I think this: http://dulfy.net/category/gw2/fashion-gw2/ contains pretty much everything…
And this: http://argos-soft.net/GW2ArmorGallery/ even lets you change some colors etc.
Dulfy is a great idea. I used to go there on some occasions but forgot about it. Thanks for that one!
Regarding the links on my log in screen I think those are quite confusing. Sometimes I see that my player downloads new content but no new link is being shown or the other way around.
And as it occurs that I do not log in for a few days there might be several new links but the initial description does not give you the chance to distinguish if it contains any updates or something like an interview of what might be some time… I think the link descriptions should be more accurate so I do not have to read through 5-8 of them when not logging in for some days just to find out that more than half of them contained not what I have been expecting to read.
I really enjoy the game and the possibilities it gives in playing different contents. However, I struggle to keep up with all the new contents and miss a lot of new items and achievements that are introduced. My time online is often reduced in finishing daylies and monthlies and if I have time to spare I enjoy playing WvW. But another important part for me is the fashion! It happens that I suddenly come across a totaly new skin on TP but have no clue when or why it was introduced. With it I have the feeling that all the stuff you can not sell/buy on TP is passing me without even knowing! Without keeping up-to-date with newly introduced skins, armor and weapons I feel pretty lost.
So my question is how do you keep up-to-date with any newly introduced items, events and also Skill-/Traitbased changes?
I try to read the forums regularly, I still seem to miss a lot. Also gw2-wiki is regularly visited but that only shows the same information as the forum unless you know what to search for…
Any help is much appreciated!
Managed to read through it!
I agree in some points. However, as I do not have that feeling of obligation towards those events and their completion, I do not even start them at all. I would love to experience more of those events but since my given ingame-time does not allow me to finish the content within the two weeks, I tend to avoid it entirely as I know I would be similarly frustrated as you are. What still catches me is if I miss any items (equipment / weapon) because of that. The appearance of my characters is a very important part for my game-experience and I hate not receiveing a cool item.
I am mainly present in WvW. I can go in when I want and help my world to capture and progress. And I can leave knowing it will still be there when I come back.
It would be great if there was any possibility to enable all players to experience more of the additional events without the mentioned pressure of time. But I guess that would lead to a disappointment of players who easily manage to finish all content within the time given and enjoy being able to show of with the rewards (which is totaly understandable).
I have fun playing WvW and some Dungeons and Fractals. But I do not enjoy the 2-weeks releases as I will in most cases not be able to finish it anyway.
Seriously? It’s our most functional weapon set, but it doesn’t make a bad player better.
Agreed. The weapon set offers mostly everything needed in any fight. However, if you do not know when and how to use it on enemy classes it does not help at all.
On Topic: 1 vs. 2 where they try to rezz the downed mate and get themselves killed while doing that and moan about OP-thieves. I tend to say it’s not 1 vs. 2 if I down one of them and they try to rezz the other one instead of attacking me while having low HP and some skills on cooldown…
Hi Nero
I would also recommend the D/P 0/30/20/20/0 build, of-hand doesn’t matter to much but SB is certainly a good choice. I started using it with full Valk. Armors and Ruby Orbs as well as full Zerker trinkets. This leaves you with a decent amount of HP and quite some decent DPS. Once you get the hang of the build and realize that you do not need that much hp you can switch to full zerker armor in order to improve your DPS.
I have tried a lot of builds including many different weapon sets. However, D/P is definitely the most balanced one and offers a skill for every situation: BS, HS for dmg; Shadowshot for Blind and Step; Head Shot for interrupting important enemy skills; and of course Black Powder for Blind and Stealth.
The rest is most up to you. Be aware though that the build requires a lot of initiative and things like Quick Recovery and Infusion of Shadow are must haves!
Skill name: Signet of Epiphany
Skill type: Elite
Elite type: Signet
Skill description:
Passive Effect: Boon Duration is increased
Active Effect: Share all Boons you have with allies around you and heal allies for a small amount.
Cast time: Instant
Recharge: 120 seconds
Visual effect(s): Blue shock wave exploding from within Guardian.
Numbers: Passive Boon duration increase by 50%. Active cap of 5 allies, heal of 1’500 (1.0).
all i can say is “lol”
Well I know it does not always exactly happen as described. But it can. And those are the moments one memorizes when thinking “why exactly am I doing this?”…
Same here. I think PW is quite usefull. Most heals that heal for a decent ammount can easily be interrupted with PW or Headshot. And I have yet to see anyone still standing after heal interrupt and a full PW beating going upt o 12k depending on the ammount of crits and oncrit procs.
I mainly play WvW/Dungeons/Fractals and feel that I can really bring a difference to a group when I am running the Guardian. I don’t know how many times I prevented my Teammates to get stomped by Banishing the stomper away, or even down a cliff. Or running through an entire enemy Zerg without them getting me lower than 50% hp (this beeing a very big Zerg…) due to Block/Invuln/Blinds etc. I love beeing in a dungeon realizing my whole team got wiped and I still have 75% of my hp left and can kill those stupid Vine’s on my own due to perma protection + retal while using my awsome Hammer.
To summ it up; I can take quite a beating while dishing out some dmg myself and play a very important part in a team.
Legen….waitforit…..DARY!
Best accessories to invest for a Guardian will always be Zerker. Only exception would be a pure Burning build but I think even there Zerkers would work.
Since you play PVE do not invest in Rings, as they drop from higher lvl Fractals (drop from lvl 10, lvl 20+ they can drop infused already).
Just started using this some days ago and am quite happy with it:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYAQNAsaVlYmiPHdy3E/5Ey2jeqC5JvHk1YZWaFoJA-j0yAYLBRiCIZBiKAk8KiGbVrIasqGMVpStyNQGcAvxyqFCQwYA-w
Main credit goes to Tessa Avery who shared this build initially. I just put my personal twist to it.
The dmg output is just insane (10 – 12k on pistol whip / around 6k with Sword #1 chain) and if used correctly your enemy just doesn’t know where to aim as you can jump back and forth as you want (5 different port abilities!). You have some access to stealth, but only used to get a break or confuse your enemy even more. Your capabilities of dazing, stunning, stoning (all interrupt) and imobilize annoy just any enemy as they easily excess any number of stunbreakers in any build.
I can just say that this build offers a lot of diversity and can be adapted very easily to different situations and playstiles (e.g. changing some traits for quickness or more crit chance from back / different runes for perma swift or perma furry etc.).
I’m not gonna explain in detail how to play it as everyone plays it differently.
(edited by Nime.2089)
I wouldn’t ignore the fact that you can actually dish out quite a bit of dmg with your Staff #1 . If we are already comparing how much dmg a group does I think it is important to also keep in mind that there is a possibility to deal dmg to a whole group (max. 5 ppl). The Staff is the best way to do that.
When I hit ppl with my Staff I usually do around .7 – .9k dmg. if I crit it goes up to 1.6k. Assuming every second hit crits (I have a minimum Crit Chance of 50%) we can say that with one #1 Staff hit I dish out around 5.5k dmg in average. This is also a contribution to my team also taking into account the 5 ppl receiving 2-3 might per hit.
I think the Staff is being way to often reduced to it’s dmg to one enemy, however, the dmg it dishes out in a group is just multiplied, which is often forgotten.
So switching to Staff is does not mean a loss in DPS in every situation. Try to find out when lots of dmg to 1-2 enemies is usefull or when normal ammount of dmg to many enemies is more usefull.
Here you can actually find 2 Builds that might suit your needs:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/The-ULTIMATE-Guardian-WvWvW-support/first#post2391938
If you play some WvW you will most likely have some batches aswell. If you do not use them for anything else I would recommend buying your Ascended trinkets in WvW at the Laurel Vendors. You can save 10 Laurel per Item but have to use 250 Badges instead. Depending on how frequent you play I would rather recommend this than earning another 10 Laurels per Ascended item.
If you plan on playing some Fractals I would also recommend to not buy any Rings. The Ascended rings appear to have quite a frequent drop rate in Reward Chests. So focus on the Amulet and maybe on Acessory.
Vote for Sticky!
stealth is OP, it makes you invincible !
and when you also can deal 35k+ backstabs,
then i wonder why not all players are thieves !OT: if bob and joe don’t win every time 2 vs 1, or even 1vs1, they come and complain on forums
Stealth does not make you invincible. By no means. I have a Thief and a Guardian and use both in WvW. When I come up against another Thief I feel much more comfortable when I am with my Guardian as I have tons of AOE dmg and I would say 1/3 times the Thief appears laying on the ground rdy to be stomped. Other outcomes are that he flees or I die (about even). But Thieves still take dmg in Stealth!
35k+ Backstab? Until you show me a picture of that I say you are lying. After it has been nerfed backstab can do 15k+ top. Maybe some can do 18k but not reliable. And those builds are pure glasscannon meaning the Thief has10k health with no armor…. So you need 3 or 4 regular hits to get them down… As already mentioned you need AOE’s to hit them in stealth or just run around spamming your chain/*1 Skill.
I have a really good knowledge about Thieves as I play one 50% of my time and I know they can be beaten even though they have a huge burst and stealth. Just try to learn how…
BTW: I just hope you where sarcastic
(edited by Nime.2089)
Propably a useless part of my answer for you but it has to be said:
Well to be honest: You will have to start at one point and with time adapt to what you think is missing. That is what I did. e.g. I started out with runes of divinity but felt dps was missing. So I changed to Scholar and am happy now.
If you have the patience I would suggest that you get your leatherworking to 400. That way you can craft your exotic armor quite cheap, and fast. So you can craft whatever you feel is missing (Keep in mind that some stats can not be crafted e.g. soldier’s etc.).
Also a big help is http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ which tells you quite accurate what will come out if you change anything.
But in general there is no point in saying take 3 valk pieces and the rest caval as this is pure playstyle and preference. And on top of that you say you play d/d d/p roamer but we do not know your traitpoints and traits…
Maybe something usable (speaking numbers):
I have quite an unique build compared to others which fits my style but I always try to have around 15k hp and put the rest in Power and Precision. So I use Valk/Soldier until I reach my 15k hp and use berserk for the rest… This works for me!
(edited by Nime.2089)
This is quite a good build. I had a similar one at my very beginning of playing a Thief. However, I think you have clearly overdone it with Vigor.
Vigor:
Every 15 seconds you can gain 8 seconds of Vigor +30% boon dur. = 10.5 seconds of Vigor. (Withdraw)
Every 30 seconds you can gain 15 seconds of Vigor + 30% boon dur. = 19.5 seconds of Vigor. (Steal)
So mathematicaly speaking you can get 1.333 seconds of Vigor evry second… To much, also taking into account “Feline Grace”…
My advice: replace “Bountiful Theft” with “Uncatchable” which suits quite well in this build. Bleeding and Cripple for 5 seconds behind every dodge, why not?
Also I would replace “Assassin’s Reward” with “Power of Inertia” and support might with the “Superior Rune’s of Strenght”. This leads to +50% might duration which will lead to 1 might for 22.5 seconds per dodge. I do not know how many dodges you do in 15 seconds but I am quite sure you can keep a solid might stack of 5-7 (also with ToC). This alone will give an additional 210 Power + 5% Damage due to might.
Last but not least: Your crit sucks anyway. So leave it and get Mug.
That’s how I would go along with this build but overall it looks quite fund to play.
I have been using divinity runes for a long time and it went quite well. However, I have changed to scholar ones recently and I felt quite an increase in damage when you pull of your first BS. 10% more damage when over 90% health + 105 more Power than divinity still give more damage even though you lose 4% crit. damage.
But I guess this depends on if you care about all other stats beeing +60 or not. I don’t so I’ll definitely stay with scholar.
