The rare times when it’s either not you narrowly losing after carrying a team of pugs; or slaughter-stomping the enemy team; yes, I do enjoy PvP.

The easiest way to shut down this type of thread is to ask for a video showing them fighting a DH. If we can properly analyze how they and their opponent fights it will give us better insight about how “broken” DH actually is

Don’t worry, I can already smell us killing Braham once he gets corrupted by Jormag as a result of his rash and foolish behavior.

Official Feedback Thread: Episode 3 -- A Crack in the Ice

Overall, I loved it. But. There’s a few inconsistencies and design ‘flaws’ that brought the experience down a notch.

1) As other have already mentioned, the ‘mob after mob after mob’ -parts of the missions.

2) Feeling confused what you’re supposed to do at first due to the nature of the design of the quest at hand. I.e. (as others have mentioned) the Aurene and ooze. It took me a minute, but I was able to figure an effective strategy to move as fast as possible. Others may not have been as fortunate. Also, the Ice Beast boss fight design as just UGH. Combined with certain achievements, it makes you feel annoyed.

3) Braham’s characterization felt too aggressive and player character inconsistent. In previous episodes, the player character has displayed that they aren’t afraid to rough up people if it’s necessary to accomplish the mission at hand. Why are we a doormat when Braham is throwing kittens at us for no reason? Also, a few lines felt unnecessary and didn’t feel like they had a reason to be there. This is the fella who’s fell’d 2 dragons and a bunch of angry cultists and other stuff by now. Where is his confidence?

On the other hand, what I especially liked:

1) The map design was fabulous, and I really dug the choreography of the Hot Springs and Center hub areas

2) The new mastery ties nicely with the events and theme of the map.

3) There’s a lot of fun, small stuff that makes the map feel more unique and complete, such as the Svanir disguise drops and hidden chests with the changing climate. Just beware not to combine too many aspects from the past maps.

4) While the dialogue has its flaws in this episode, it still really makes me smile (occasionally laugh) and feel for the characters at certain moments. Gotta hand it to the voice actors, they’re doing heckova job.

Looking forward to the next episode. Cheers.

Guardian traps

in Thief

NorthernRedStar.3054

The only reliable way for a thief to down a DH is usually after their aegis is down and they’ve used their traps. If you’re unable to kill a guardian in a swift rotation, back down. In a prolonged kite-fest, a decent DH will always beat a decent Thief.

Forest of Niflhel opening strategy?

in Thief

NorthernRedStar.3054

If close is not getting invaded by a class you can’t 1v1, close → flank mid is the best option, afterwards rotating to decap or cap far, depending on the outcome of the fight.

Another option is straight to mid, engaging from behind the enemy team when they’re distracted.

It’s quite rare for a thief to go far nowadays, since there’s almost always a druid or mesmer there.

it's not thief's role to engage in duels??

in Thief

NorthernRedStar.3054

Thief should not be able to beat Druids, Dragonhunters, Mesmers, Necromancers or Scrappers in a fair 1v1 duel. Unless the gap between the players’ skill is vast.

Thiefs excel at flanking unsuspecting players and taking down people who have used their cooldowns beforehand. Thief is not a class for fair 1v1 duels.

Because Druids are the strongest profession at the moment with their high-impact ressing, far outshining Auramancer simply not letting their teammates get downed, or mesmers portaling their allies around and quaranteeing a kill with Moa.

Best support/healer for new player?

Thank you for the replies, this is all helpful info. I think I’ll try a druid first, since it felt like it had a lower skill floor (at least for me, based on my brief, slightly drunk attempts at some spvp). Hopefully I’ll get lucky with Tomes of Knowledge and can quickly level up an alt elementalist.

Druid is a lot harder to play efficiently at higher levels of play, because they’re squishier, more vulnerable to conditions, and are more limited by cooldowns.

Ele is super easy at lower brackets because no one knows how to deal with damage or sustain.

Plays a kitten build. Check. Faces his “counter”- class. Check. Misplays horribly. Check. Cries his opponent is OP. Check.

Comes to the forum with a poorly constructed, badly presented argument for his self-imposed dragonhunter hate. Check check check.

Skyhammer Design Discussion

Remove the knockback instakill option from the skyhammer control room. Make the actual skyhammer more utility focused (knockback?) instead of damage, making the player controlling it able to knock others off ledges if he aims well.

Why would i care what happens in an event with less than 10k concurrent viewers world wide, some of Total Biscuits Videos have more views than this ESL stuf.
I care about what i play every day on my regular queues and the fact is Necros and Thieves run over everything they come across and it shows in the ratios of classes we come across.

Sounds like an L2P -issue.

Possible changes for Feb 23

NorthernRedStar.3054

Honestly the best changes for mesmer right now is the proper nerfing of the classes in the finals.

If we can get revs down to 1 slot max per team along with proper power creep nerfs we’d prolly be in a VERY good spot. You’d have to keep an eye on the healing/condi builds but power might make a come back if anet did it right.

This.

Aren’t all the spammers and meta sheeps the ones who’re stuck in amber-sapphire for the most part? You don’t win in this game by spamming AoE:s unless against an extremely bad opponent.

The meta is never perfect, but there’s a lot more honest, viable options from a non-professional player’s point of view. This coming from someone who plays Thief, Ranger, Guardian and Mesmer.

Not one thief in Finals

NorthernRedStar.3054

Personally I don’t think thieves themselves have problems against revenants currently (even if revenants overall are not fine right now). I’d like to see more focus on flanking and backstabs, rewarding a thief that manages to stay behind opponent and dis-/re-engaging at the right times.

Maybe a condition removal / transfer on every backstab per a set period of time? Anyways, something that encourages aggressive, mindful playstyle.

Ya know; the trick to invisibility is being where no one is looking at.

The DPS is very decent when it bounces, other than that, it’s not meant to be your main DPS tool anyways. Shortbow has a very high utility potential and that should be respected.

HoT is indeed a great expansion. People just need to take their time and relax, enjoy the small details and look around. It’s just going to get better with the upcoming ‘filler’ content.

Despite all the bashing the community tends to give the game, it’s one of the shining MMO beacons out there. Keep up the good job (and adjust PvP slightly more often), alright!
