The question is, rather, what role are you playing? Are you leaning towards support or are you leaning towards dps?

Preferably DPS, but I’m looking more towards tank/dps hybrid so basically dps but with good sustain.

Best source of fury ever

Not sure if sarcasm or… actually serious. :S

For Fury we already have Signet of Rage (which I think the majority of the Warriors have) and “For Great Justice!” which is essentially the easiest way to get Fury. Losing 3 bars of adrenaline for Fury is definitely not worth it.

Although I guess with Cleansing Ire, it has a new purpose now so it’s not completely useless…

Territory Wars - Solution to WvW imbalance.

in WvW

Posted by: Oreoginal.1580

Oreoginal.1580

Territory Wars introduces new tactics to WvW such as branching off from the zerg to take these smaller points while the main zerg goes for the bigger castles. This essentially causes the main zerg to be slightly weaker since it will have less manpower. Staying in one big zerg will ensure you the bigger buildings, but at what cost? You’ll be losing the smaller territories left and right. So there’s a new element of strategy now other than the simple zergfests.

  • So the basic premise of this is dividing the WvW map into smaller territories, kind of like how RISK is set up. The towers, keeps, and castles will still generate the most points, but there will be smaller territories that can be taken that generate points as well.
  • These smaller territories can consist of either 1-3 veterans that become more difficult to beat if there are more than 5 players within the vicinity. This will have a 20 second cap time.
  • More often than not, when solo roaming you’ll encounter barren wasteland all over the map before you find an enemy. These smaller territories will be in areas of the WvW maps where people barely go to (essentially those dark corners of the map where no one ever goes through).

Here’s the link to the suggestion: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Territory-Wars-More-tactics-less-zerg/first#post23578701

Territory Wars - More tactics, less zerg!

Or it would just be another objective to flip, like with Sentries…

If there were tons of these all over the map, and they were fairly difficult to kill (a champion sentry let’s say), I think it’d be a good fix.

Which would simply promote moving as a giant zerg and simply add more things to do while making your rounds across the world.

Not at all. They’d be hard enough that a single player can’t kill it, but easy enough with a team of say 3-5. They can also scale it with the amount of people within the vicinity kind of like how world bosses work where the mob gets progressively harder the more people join in.

With many of these things all over the map, it’s more effective moving in smaller squadrons than in one big zerg since you’ll cover more ground and capture more territories that way.

A big problem in WvW is that the maps are incredibly huge

Actually they are incredibly small considering its server vs server vs server, that’s why the zerg is such a problem.

But the idea sounds great. I’m imagining it a bit like Risk or Europa Universalis style provinces the map is divided into. It’s enough if these are defended by 1-3 veterans, enough to give a challenge to 1 player but not impossible to cap. These should also work like sentries, and take a fixed time to cap after cleared, meaning capping them with a zerg would be a huge waste of time. Instead splitting in groups of 3-5 would be ideal. Only taking towers and keeps would still favor zergs.

More importantly this idea actually enforces better balance between a small server and a big one. Just like in reality, the side that owns huge areas of land, will have huge problems defending it all efficiently. See – Rome.

It could be trenches, camps, towers, and so on, that guard each province. But it would be just a variant on the sentry. Each having only veteran npcs that can be flipped, to defend it, and a fixed cap timer of say 10 seconds.

Exactly! You’re spot on.

The balance between big servers and small servers is a benefit as well since like you said, worlds are forced to either defend the bigger castles (which generates more points) but lose the majority of the smaller territories, or lessen the defense of those castles to capture more smaller territories.

I’m not saying zergs are completely out of the question. This idea just adds another tactic to WvW so it’s not just zergs everywhere. One big zerg can only cover so much ground, and is definitely less mobile than 6 squadrons of 5 people so they have the disadvantage with the smaller territories. However, a zerg is able to take towers, keeps, and castles A LOT faster and more effective than a group of 5. So there’s a trade off now.

I love the Longbow and I definitely love your play style. That’s my choice of weapon in tPvP too and it’s incredibly fun and effective, although I run with a full Rabid set with Undead runes for maximum Toughness, Precision, and Condition Damage.

You should consider using Berserker Stance instead of Signet of Fury though (buffed after the patch) since it greatly reduces condition duration and gives you adrenaline. This lets you use Healing Surge which heals for a hell of a lot more AND gives you full adrenaline.

But very nice video! I’m definitely subscribing.

Thank you for the kind words. I’ve played a full galrath set, with rabid access, but found it more beneficial with my playstyle to spec a hybrid. As long as I have 1k condi damage, I get the rest of my condi damage from my might stacks and spec into 50% crit damage. It lets my sword hit pretty hard while doing a mean bleed. I’ve also tried surge before but for me it requires too much micro and doesn’t remove chill when I need it to. I used berserker’s stance before but 60sec CD is a bit too long for my taste.

Ahh well there is no such thing as a cookie cutter build anyways! It’s obvious that your build is working amazingly well, so whatever works best for you. Looking forward to your future videos!

I really like the idea of this but I don’t think the Devs are a great fan of Warriors keeping their adrenaline stored. With the recent patches and the introduction of Cleansing Ire, it’s quite clear that they don’t want us keeping our adrenaline at 3 bars.

However, an easy fix would be rather than making it a somewhat passive skill, why not make it active? Adding maybe an F2 skill which consumes your adrenaline and gives you a certain amount of life steal (depending on how much adrenaline was consumed) for a certain amount of time.

This effectively gives us our much needed sustain but also works with our class mechanic in a non overpowered way.

Note: This is not a “sit on a full bar” mechanic btw.

Better yet keep it a utility but adapt your idea.

(Insert Skill Name Here)
Stance: Harness your rage to sap the life from your foes.

Life-steal based on adrenaline. All adrenaline is used upon use.
Stage 1: 5%
Stage 2: 10%
Stage 3: 15%

Duration: 10 seconds.
Cooldown: 60 seconds.

Is affected by poison.

Yeah keeping it a utility might be better for balance reason.

I completely support this idea. It gives Warriors sustain but at a cost of a utility slot.

I also wish that the small things to do in WvW made a difference. Example in a borderland, the Veteran Harpy and the Veteran Warg grant 165 WXP for killing them, but… they don’t… do… anything…

This is my point exactly.

Imagine if those Veterans gives you a territory which also generates points for your world. Wouldn’t that encourage players to do them?

I only see this feasible with a full zerker Thief with maybe full stacks of Bloodlust (if you got hit by 12k with 2.8k+ armor). In which case, that sucks for you. But these thieves are usually as glass cannon as anyone can possibly be and usually go down pretty fast so they don’t really pose any big threat.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Territory-Wars-More-tactics-less-zerg/first#post2357394

Hopefully the devs will see this and give it some thought. But basically this fixes the zerg mentality and encourage players to divide into smaller tactical groups to capture multiple territories at various parts of the map.

So much of the map are basically wasted space right now, but if they were to make it into a territory that can be captured to generate points, then players will have a reason to go to those places. This enables the Devs to encourage players to go to places in the map that are basically barren wasteland at the moment.

Territory Wars - More tactics, less zerg!

in Suggestions

Oreoginal.1580

Basic premise:Territories, rather than buildings, will generate points in WvW. Buildings will still give more points, but multiple territories (which functions similarly to sentries) can be acquired by capturing territories as various places in the WvW world.

A big problem in WvW is that the maps are incredibly huge, but the players really only go to important areas such as sentries, supply camps, and WvW buildings, which essentially causes the rest of the map to be wasted space.

  • WvW buildings will have a territory radius where its buffs can reach.
  • Areas that did not have a purpose in the past can be made into a territory that can be captured. This area will work like how sentries do right now, but with the added effect of generating its own point and being all over the map instead of sparse numbers at only key locations. (This fixes the wasted spaces at various parts of the map)
  • Small territories that can be captured motivates small groups of players to branch out of the zerg in order to get captures. (This fixes the zerg mentality problem)
  • Multiple territories over various parts of the map encourages tactics of whether to stay in the zerg and take and defend the big WvW buildings, or divide into smaller groups and capture the smaller territories.
  • Pressing “M” on the map will show the map divided into segments showing which territories are owned by which world. This lets smaller groups of players to decide which part of the map to go to. The whole concept would be similar to RISK.

[Edit]

  • Like zerospin.8604 pointed out: The smaller territories can consist of “… trenches, camps, towers, and so on, that guard each province. But it would be just a variant on the sentry. Each having only veteran npcs that can be flipped, to defend it, and a fixed cap timer of say 10 seconds.”
  • These sentries can scale in difficulty the more players are present. It would be designed for 5 players, and any more than that will scale the difficulty higher.
  • Also: “This idea actually enforces better balance between a small server and a big one. Just like in reality, the side that owns huge areas of land, will have huge problems defending it all efficiently.”

Basically, the moment someone captures a Keep/Tower/Castle the area around it becomes owned by that world, and hovering over it in the map will show which guild got to cap it.

Guardian - Mobile Meditation Build (High DPS)

Oreoginal.1580

surely a nice build… but there are few problems:
1) what did you use for condition removal? (46sec CD is very long… and the 16sec one isnt enough)
2) resistence isnt enough in my opinion because of low HP and no real way to mitigate incoming damage expecially from condition)
3) you put 20 points in zeal for 5% gs damage while refusing 5 more points in Honor and get +10% damage while endurance is not full (according to wiki), 500 more hp and a more reason to spam your roll and get heal, evade, damage and support XD
4)Staff is very usefull in Zergs but i strongly recomende sword/focus because of their infinite utility for you and party (3# blocks, 5# blocks, aoe regeneration 4# and blind)

meditation are very good… but i still prefer the boonway coming out from shouts because you can easily heal more than a meditation and get more usefull boons

1. I have 2 utilities that gives condition removal. I’m also planning on getting the -36% condition duration & +60 vitality food for my build. Are 2 condition removals not enough? I guess it’s different from Guardians ‘cause I don’t even run with any condition removal in my utility slots for my Warrior and I do just pretty well. Thanks!

2. I really need to do something about my low HP. Hmmm…

3. Oh! I didn’t even notice that. Yes, I’ll definitely do that! I need the extra health.

4. I really don’t like the Sword and Focus playstyle. The only other weapon I’ll consider is the Hammer although my mobility basically dies if I run a Greatsword and Hammer build.

That is some really low health you have there and no decent way of maintaining condition removal or condition reduction. I’d sacrifice some power for more vitality and go make Lemongrass for -40% condition reduction. Maybe even take Purity instead.

I’m trying to figure out how to balance DPS with tankiness. The last thing I want is to be incredibly tanky that can probably survive 3-5 enemies with no problem, BUT not having the DPS to kill those people. But yeah, I wasn’t sure what’s considered “low health” with this class because of its many sustains. I’ll definitely, definitely look into that!

What is the purpose of the build? Solo roaming? Small Group? Zerg?

I guess a really small group? I usually roam with my girlfriend so it’s usually just the two of us. She can play a Thief, a Mesmer, or a Warrior. I main a Warrior, but I also have a Thief and a Guardian.

This isn’t really aimed at you specifically, but people really need to start developing a relative understanding of what “high” DPS is. I see so many “high DPS” builds that in fact give almost no DPS that the adjective has pretty much lost all its meaning.

I guess I meant relative to other builds. Don’t most Guardians go with Soldier or Knight set? A mix of Berserker and Soldier set will still lack Precision, which means lower Critical Chance. If this isn’t considered a “high DPS” build then I’m sorry for confusing people.

:DD i love your Warrior vids!

are you still mainly gonna be roaming with this build / class as well? with a meditations build, i feel the staff would be a secondary choice. it’s nice to have for the swiftness but what i like to do is when i am running frmo A to B, i’ll switch in staff, throw down symbol of swiftness then switch back to my regular weapon set.

i personally feel it’s not the best weapon in a 1v1 situation, rather, it works better when you’re in a small group or more. that being said, there are some that have found success with the staff even in small-scale or even roaming fights.

i will say that 13k health is definitely on the low end, but if you feel you can sustain enough then go for it. though you can easily fix that with a few gear swaps or maybe even with food, if you feel like you need to. or just use your dodges, blinds, blocks effectively. ; )))

the aegis removal heal i feel is rather underwhelming as well but i haven’t really tested it since the revamp, though mainly since you really only get aegis from your VoC (F3), i feel it might be more beneficial to take say Writ of Exaltation for larger symbols since you’re running GS and staff.

i quite like Rune of the Pack even in WvW. though many Guards don’t feel it’s the best choice, or the proc effect is too low. many will go with 5 Citadel + 1 ruby orb or sth along those lines for Fury procs (30s!) instead. : )) though personally i use Pack runes myself (and it matches this one particular build’s background story lolll)

i have a feeling you’ll have a lot of fun with Judge’s Intervention paired with Whirling Wrath, binding blades, etc do give the hammer a shot as well one of these days! hope this helped a bit.

Haha thanks!

I’ll be roaming with my girlfriend (she can use a Thief, a Mesmer, or a Warrior). So there’ll always be two of us roaming.

I really like the Greatsword and I feel like the Staff is needed in WvW for the Swiftness. The other weapon set I’d consider is the Hammer. I like using Greatsword and Hammer in tPvP but I feel like I lose so much mobility. Is Greatsword and Hammer viable in WvW?

Hmm… 13k health. I guess it is pretty small, eh? I figured that’s normal for Guardians since they have more sustain than Warriors (which have a naturally high health). Alright, I’ll definitely adjust it! Thanks.

I’ll also be getting Writ of Exaltation over Pure of Heart! (:

I’m trying to figure out which of the two can offer more. Rune of the Pack gives Might, Fury, and Swiftness for 5s BUT it also has a 10s cd whereas Rune of the Citadel give Fury for 30s but has a 60s cd. I figured I’m gonna’ be tanking a lot during fights anyways that my Rune of the Pack will be procing whenever it’s out of cooldown. But I’ll definitely check both out!

  • Min/Max optimized mix of Berserker and Knight sets
  • A very nice mix of survivability and damage
    - 3.3k attack
    - 2.9k armor
    - 15k health
    - +50% critical chance
    - +74% critical damage
  • Superior Rune of the Pack has a chance to give Might, Fury, and Swiftness (5s)
  • Possibility of 70% critical chance during fights
  • Two stunbreaks and two condition removals (one with a complete wipe)
  • Greatsword and Staff skills recharge 20% faster
  • +20% Swiftness Duration provides an extra 2 second duration to Staff Skill #3
  • +10% bonus damage to burning foes

I main as a Warrior and I’ve found that Guardians are naturally defensive and needs work on its damage/DPS, whereas Warriors are the complete opposite and are naturally offensive but needs work on its defenses.

Note that this is only for WvW. I do not recommend this at all in sPvP/tPvP.

I agree. It’s ridiculous when there’s literally nothing you can do to Blinds because they can easily reapply it to you over and over again. Even those Veteran Scouts have become a problem now.

Hey master of sustain..Don’t u know u can still hitting them in melee without entering in blind smog?

Yes, I know that.

Haha alright guys, I get it. It’s not that great of a build. But at least I’m trying to make things work with the new changes instead of crying about it in the forums.

People get Warrior’s Sprint (at least I do) because you keep that 25% move speed increase while in combat. Swiftness move speed buff doesn’t work if you’re in combat. At least this makes Warriors harder to kite, especially with the added Dogged March.

Anyways, just my two cents. (:

lolwut…

When someone hits you while you’re in Swiftness, you lose the move speed increase whereas Warrior’s Sprint move speed increase stays with you even when you’re in combat.

This is incorrect.

You have an out of combat (ooc) movement speed, and an in combat movement speed.

Swiftness in terms of its movement speed gain, isn’t affected by this, it’s just the different changes in movement depending on if you’re in combat.

I don’t recommend anyone picking up the +25% movement speed considering how easy it is to spam SoR.

Wait, what. I thought it was the same as the Thief’s Signet of Shadows?

That sucks… :T Scrap what I said!

It is the same as SoS, and any other movement increasing signet, they are all affected by combat

Oh that’s weird. My Thief friend lied to me. :T

Hey Daecollo, can we see your current Warrior build? I’m really curious what you run with as a Warrior.

Currently i’m running 0/10/30/0/30 Hammer + Axe/Axe, however hammer is bugged atm and roots me a lot. I’m testing out Axe/Axe to see how much damage it does.

Axe/Axe with the Axe trait sounds really nice atm although I haven’t tried it out yet. Is that what you’re running? How is it? And how’s your mobility in WvW with that build?

To be fair you are a decent warrior but those fights took far too long..yes you beat the warrior in a 1v1 but it took a while and if that ele had shown up a bit earlier they’d have both gotten you or you would have had to run away. In the second fight with the ele you can see the warrior just standing off in the sidelines watching you go at it for a very long time with the ele. The problem is, it’s a tanky build that has survivability but no real burst making the fight go a long time or possibly end in a stalemate with you having to run because 2 or 3 more of the persons buddies show up to spoil your drawn out 1v1..

I want my old Hammer/GS build back.

I guess, but given that the patch came out today and I haven’t really had much time to play around with different builds, I don’t think I did that badly. There’s definitely room for improvement! (:

This is how you sustain.

See how his health goes up to 100% every 3 seconds from 75%? That is what sustain means.

Your just a punching bag with a lot of HP, if your pressured by anything you will go down immediately. 1v1s will not pressure you and this guy is taking on 3 people, out-healing you…

Well see, the difference is that we already have a high health pool to begin with, and our burst heal actually heals for a lot. I was able to match the Elementalist’s health the whole fight (which was something Warriors couldn’t do in the past).

Why do I get the feeling that you want the survivability of a Guardian, but the damage of the Warrior all in one class?

This is sustain, it means your health is going up instead of staying at 17k forever…

Sorry but this is what you don’t have.

Oh I see, so you basically want a Guardian that can dish out the same damage as the Warrior. I guess that makes sense…

Edited. Thanks! (:

You have no sustain. Your health through most of the fight stayed the same.

sus·tain (s-stn)
tr.v. sus·tained, sus·tain·ing, sus·tains
1. To keep in existence; maintain.
2. To supply with necessities or nourishment; provide for.
3. To support from below; keep from falling or sinking; prop.
4. To support the spirits, vitality, or resolution of; encourage.
5. To bear up under; withstand: can’t sustain the blistering heat.
6. To experience or suffer: sustained a fatal injury.
7. To affirm the validity of: The judge has sustained the prosecutor’s objection.
8. To prove or corroborate; confirm.
9. To keep up (a joke or assumed role, for example) competently.

You did none of these things.

Look at my fight against the Elementalist. I’m sure everyone agrees that they’re one of the top classes for sustain. Pay very close attention to both our health during the fight. I was able to match her heals the whole fight. If Elementalists are considered the best at sustainability, and I was able to match it, what does that make my Warrior?

My definition of sustain is being able to keep my health up and match the enemy’s health the whole fight (which I successfully did by the way).

Here’s a video demonstrating the Warrior sustainability after the patch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOgyt0UnHe8

So far, I see poor sustainability.

None of your opponents pressured you at all.

You fought a warrior, a bad ele, and another warrior.

You have no sustain, your health stayed at the same place through most of the fight as they just ran around you.

What do you mean exactly by none of my opponents pressured me at all? I mean, they tried, but I manage to counter and dodge msot of the attempts. What could they have done exactly to “pressure” me? I’m genuinely curious by the way. I want to get better with this class.
