The complaint is not about the reward tracks though, but about the potions needed for a Guild Hall upgrade (These potions are PvP exclusive).

Yes, I know, but I was addressing Daishi’s particular argument, which was more general in scope than OP’s subject.

Good thing ANet didn’t add PvE reward tracks to PvP to cater to that sort of- oh, wait.

Where are the fractal and raid tracks?

Where are the people getting Tournament and League rewards from doing custom maps?

Daishi made the argument that the PvP reward tracks are largely fair game because they’re just open world rewards, that’s fair, but it also works both ways: if those reward tracks can’t be considered PvE exclusive, then they can’t be considered PvP exclusives either. The PvP dailiy rewards only give you things that contribute to these open world tracks, therefore claiming people are trying to get PvP rewards without doing PvP when the rewards aren’t actually PvP exclusives is dubious at best.

If they were intended to be marketable, they wouldn’t be account bound, what you’re suggesting is a soft exploit of the guild hall system. It’s nothing you’d get punished for, but the same goes for daily rooms.

You’re forgetting the Halloween, Wintersday, Super Adventure Box, and Living World Season 3 reward tracks.

I would count festivals and living world as generalized PvE. Perhaps “open world” would be a more fitting term.

Besides most of that is just trash loot and is pretty non exclusive since WvW got the same reward tracks.

Then by that logic what was wrong with daily rooms? The chests you get only have shards of glory (which can’t get you pvp rewards unless you have league tickets or ascended shards of glory), resonating shards (which isn’t unique to pvp), and PvP potions (which don’t contribute to tournament progress or rewards).

Don’t want non-PvPers to get the Balthazar, Glorious, or Legacy skins? Move them to the ascended shards of glory vendor. The current change only punishes people like the OP who need the PvP potions for PvE unlocks, but it doesn’t do anything to prevent people grinding custom maps for reward progress.

I am disturbed by many of these comments. Everyone is basically saying:

“to $#@% with people who don’t like pvp but want the chance to get the rewards”.

“I want Raid rewards, but I don’t like to Raid. I want Frac rewards, but I don’t like to Frac. It’s disturbing people believe I shouldn’t get them without playing the content properly.”

If the logic doesn’t follow there, it doesn’t follow here either.

Or are you saying everyone in game should just get things like fractal daily rewards for afking in town and jumping puzzles?

“I want PvE rewards, but don’t want to PvE.”

Good thing ANet didn’t add PvE reward tracks to PvP to cater to that sort of- oh, wait.

You cannot compare generalized PvE rewards to that of exclusive content unless we’re going to split everything and say you can’t get gold in fracs, raids, pvp, or wvw anymore.

Open world PvE offers you, trash loot and gold. Like Everything else in game. Including the reward tracks you are alluding to.

You cannot get fractal backs, or weps, or infusions in PvP.

You cannot get Raid weps in PvP.

You cannot get WvW marks/badges or EXP pots (the thing that even started this thread) in PvP.

nor can you get that exclusive rewards from the other forms of content.

The only exception to that is dungeons but that is no longer supported content and considered on the level of open world PvE.

You’re forgetting the Halloween, Wintersday, Super Adventure Box, and Living World Season 3 reward tracks.

Some people refuse adamently to pay with RL money. They want accessibility or they will complain. Some kids may not have a CC and need an avenue to purchase items in the gem store to be even. With these prices to date, I generally don’t hesitate with the CC when I feel I ‘need’ something.

Atm I really want those aviator sunglasses, they finally returned, but I just spent 1200 of my 1500 gems, and maxed out my CC on pax tickets. So I’m S.O.L

From my understanding, this is how it goes:

  • Exchanging gold for gems will raise the exchange rate.
  • Exchanging gems for gold will lower the exchange rate.
  • Buying gems with money does nothing, because those gems don’t get introduced to the pool if you hold onto them or spend them directly on gem store items.

So plenty of people could actually be spending real money on the gem store, but as long as they don’t convert those gems to gold it won’t affect the exchange rate.

What a peculiar situation.
The Legendaries aren’t done six months after HoT.
I wonder what the deal is here. Are the models done, or is it taking ages to set up all the quests to acquire them? Either way, it seems there’s too much effort going in – judging by the SXSW panel, the developers spend FAR too much time thinking. Just my humble opinion. I like that they are pouring love into their work, I just think the balance is off.

Given how quickly they can bang out Black Lion skins, it’s highly unlikely the models are the bottleneck. It’s more likely that the framework for Collections is flawed in some way that bogs down development, like every collection item requiring a change and testing of every associated mob, event, and/or loot table (so one Legendary is the equivalent of tweak 30 different events) or something.

I suspect they only managed to get the first three out by skipping testing, since any amount of testing should have told the devs it was stupid to have collection items in events that would only spawn after failed events.

That’s kind of not true. The april patch should be heavily dedicated on improving HoT’s content, and we know that most of the promised features are still coming, excluding legendary weapons.

It was an advertised feature, people accepted the fact that it wouldn’t be ready on release and pre-purchased on the good faith that it would be delivered, this is a violation of that trust.

And you know what? If you’re not going to deliver features that were already paid for, then a partial refund is in order. You can charge for it when it’s done.

The $10 sale saw a lot of new alt accounts for the daily rewards.

To be fair, it’s been slightly over a year since the $10 sale. If you’ve done nothing with the account beyond daily APs you’d still be around the 4k AP range (I only use my alt account for quick PvP dailies, somehow broke 5k AP a couple weeks ago).

My post’s main purpose was only to clarify why groups like mine might choose to have said metric on our LFG’s, and that’s to attract the kind of player that wants to get the run done in the shortest amount of time.

So the AP requirement is arbitrary and you don’t actually associate skill with it, you’re just using it as a way to turn off people who like to take things slow and are most likely to be offended by AP requirements?

That’s a novel way of doing it.

If you’re upgrading a current account, you shouldn’t need to enter an email address at all. If I recall correctly the process was to go to My Account on the top of the website, then to Game Content, then scroll down to Add Code and plug in the code you got with your HoT purchase.

It sounds like what happened was you mistook the Registration process as the upgrading process (which normally would make sense, but ANet rolled Core into HoT to “simplify” the purchasing process, because people are apparently intimidated by seeing more than one item in a store) and accidentally created a brand new HoT account using your old email address (which isn’t actually linked to your main account anymore, customer service would have unlinked it to prevent further compromises after you asked them to switch to the new email).

Aren’t they scaling the events up by doing that? It’s not about being competitive or not, they are making it harder for everyone else by being selfish.

And sure, you can still complete the events more often than not, but it’s unfortunate there is no way to deal with it other than turning a blind eye to it and just let it happen.

But the higher the scale the better the loot even if the event is harder. So really unless the ratio is very high for AFKers isn’t that a win for everyone?

Depends on the event. Vinewrath scales up the mobs, but they don’t drop loot, so it’s just a big middle finger to people who actually do the event.

Golem MKII safe spot exploit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

On one hand I understand why game developers don’t want players getting easy kills on mobs by standing somewhere the mob can’t reach.

On the other hand that’s what ranged weapons are all about. It’s like screaming a fight is unfair when you give one guy a knife and another guy a gun, if you want a fair fight, give them both the same weapon.

Maybe it’s just the limitations of MMO AIs, but ideally when a mob gets attacked by a player from an unreachable location, they should respond by switching to ranged weapons or running away if they don’t have a ranged weapon. They shouldn’t just go invulnerable and the terrain shouldn’t be nerfed, that’s not fixing a problem, that’s simply accommodating it (because the real problem isn’t players exploiting terrain, the problem is mob AI is dumb).

Similarly if the Mk. II Golem is being attacked from atop the control tower, it should smash the tower (accompanied by a surprised yell from the Inquest inside), but if nobody’s there it shouldn’t. It would still be scripted, but at least it’ll feel like we’re fighting a mob and not an overly enthusiastic wall.

I personally find it irresponsible to recommend to others on a public forum that Mystic Salvage kits are cheaper with pointing out that the Mystic Forge Stones are absent for the cost calculation. If a person then wants to consider them as free then that is fine but Anet has set a real world value for them via their cash shop.

I made the mistake of assuming people who read my caveat understood it implied the value of the Silver-Fed Kit was contingent on the rate at which they accumulated free (doesn’t matter what the gem store price is, if something is given to you for free, then it’s free) mystic forge stones. So to rephrase:

“If you’re the type who uses more mystic forge stones than you can get from login rewards and the occasional AP chest, then the Silver-Fed Salvage-o-Matic is worth it, otherwise it simply isn’t.”

Not odd at all. I’m not sure where or when they stated it would be tedious to make masteries character unlocks (though I can agree with that sentiment, and it would feel like grinding reputation), but they provide something that’s the same regardless of what character you’re using.

Meanwhile, elite specs are tied to your profession, giving skills and traits that only that profession has. Specializations (trail lines prior) have also never been unlocked on new characters for having done it before, so there’s no change there. If you want to argue the initial cost of unlocking was high, go right ahead – but that’s already been changed, so there’s not much reason to use it in an argument anymore.

It was in one of the earlier news posts regarding Masteries prior to the release of HoT, in which they clearly stated the reasoning behind making them account unlocks. Edit: actually, it might have been an interview Colin did after the announcement of HoT, when they were discussing how HoT was building frameworks for future expansions. Sorry for not being able to dig up the source, they did spend too long and across too many channels hyping up HoT.

The reason I find this inconsistent is because elite specs should have been unlocked in a similar method. Yes, Dragon Hunter is different from Scrapper, but Scrapper is not different from Scrapper. We should have unlocked the elite spec for a profession across our account, but actual training should have been handled on a per character basis.

So there should have been a Mastery track for each elite spec, first tier unlocks the ability to train in the specialization, second tier to get the armor skin, and third tier to get the exotic weapon; once you’ve completed that Mastery track, every character of that profession should be able to fully train the elite specialization (for a modest increase in training cost, maybe double, not more than ten times the cost).

I don’t understand what’s there to be paranoid or tin-foil-hatted about, the TP’s API is available, it’s used by multiple sites to track prices and volume of all transactions on the TP; the behavior you described can be achieved by having a botting program hook into the API and issue transaction orders based on the numbers it gets.

  • Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic: same chances as a basic salvage kit, but slightly cheaper per use and saves you the trouble of having to lug around a bunch of salvage kits, use it to salvage white, blue, and green items of any level, yellow items under level 70.
  • Watchwork Mining Pick: the only infinite harvesting tool that gives you extra materials (watchwork sprocket) on top of the stuff you normally get from nodes, which you can sell for extra profit.

I didn’t factor in the gem cost of mystic forge stones because you get them for free, and in large amounts, from achievement points. I have enough to make roughly 83 mystic salvage kits. That’s over 20,000 uses.

Well it is true that you basically can neglect the costs of forge stones but only for making a proper comparison you really should take it into the calculation.

On paper mystic salvage kits are more expensive than both the silver-fed and rare salvage kit. The only reason they are less expensive in practice than the other two is because there isn’t really any use for the masses of forge stones we get other than mystic salvage kits.

Funny thing is if you look at the footnote on the salvage kits page, it points you to the talk page regarding how gem prices can affect the kit’s cost.

These kits are more cost effective than buying 10 single kits, while the price for 100 gems is below 94 Silver coin 34 Copper coin.

  1. The following formulas assume buying a pack of 10 stones.
  2. The result will be the cost in silver. Eg: 0.53021 Silver coin = 53 Copper coin per use.
  • Short form cost per use = (100 gems cost * 0.0054) + 0.105
  • Long form cost per use = ((100 gems cost * 4.5 / 10 * 3 [costs for 3 stones, bought at 10 stones price]) + 26.24 [for the 3 salvage kit]) / 250

If we’re really going to be subjected to that, I would prefer proper climbing and shimmying mechanics.

That being said, I wouldn’t change Not So Secret. It’s definitely rage-inducing the first few months you try it, but you get used to it after a while. I loathed whoever designed it when I first tried it, but now I can reliably get to the top with a max-sized Charr.

Whoops, replied before I could finish my edit.

The reasoning for the nerf is that both infinite kits are balanced around the vendor versions, so if they drop the operation cost to below that of the Fine Kit, it would stand to reason they would also drop the salvaging chances to match. That the Mystic Kit has the same chances as a Master Kit yet costs roughly the same as a Fine Kit per use is clearly an aberration – it’s obvious the Mystic Kit’s advantage over the Masters Kit was the 250 uses, but ANet made the mistake (a happy one for us) of handing out the mystic forge stones like candy, thereby making the gem cost of the stones irrelevant and destroying the value of Master Kits.

So while I wouldn’t want to see Mystic Kits suddenly become more expensive to use, I don’t want to use the product of a mistake to be the standard by which we compare anything to either.

I would like it if they just fixed the price of Silver fed Salvage o matic to compete with mystic salvage kits. That is why copper fed is so successful.

Granted they’d just have to rename it which is fine. As it stands
Basic Salvage kit = 88 copper, 25 uses. 88/25 = 3.52 copper.
Copper fed salvage o matic = 3 copper.

Master salvage kit = 15 silver 36 copper 25 uses 15.36/25 = 61.44 copper
Silver fed = 60 copper
Mystic salvage kit = 26 silver 24 copper 250 uses: 26.24/250 = 10.496 copper.

In order for silver fed to be a much more attractive buy with real money and make it balanced but not broken you would need to make it cost 10 copper per salvage. The cost of Mystic forge stones is negligible mainly because you get them through achievement chests and dalies for free and en-masse. The fact that they give 250 uses compounds this issue making it extremely ineffective to get silver fed compared to copper fed.

This would easily be fixed by 10 copper to use. Regardless of what they do with it I don’t mind. But I think it would be nice to have the gemstore item compete with the most efficient item that does the same thing in the game while also providing convenience. That is exactly why copper fed is so successful.

To be fair, the only reason the Mystic Kit is so much more affordable is because ANet introduced (and continue to introduce) too many mystic forge stones for free. A more likely change would be nerfing the rate at which mystic stones are rewarded to make Mystic Kits harder to get, thereby making Master’s Kits viable again, which would be the only way a Silver-Fed Kit would be worth a purchase.

If they dropped the Silver-Fed Kit down to 10 coppers, they would have to nerf it to have the same stats as the Fine Salvage Kit (which costs around 11 coppers per use), but that would cause an outrage.

I’ve heard that it’s salvage rate (especially for ectos) is well below that of a master / mystic kit

The salvage rate is identical. It’s the cost per use that falls behind mystic salvage kits. Higher cost per use compared to mystic kits, combined with initial gem cost makes it a no buy for me.

That was a while ago, last I saw the costs were pretty close (Silver fed slightly ahead) with Mystics being 63 copper per use and the Silver being 60 copper per use. Unless you have lots of mystic forge stones, which- admittedly- most people do, the silver fed is cheaper to use.

You’re thinking of the Master’s Salvage Kit there.

Here’s a handy table.

Mystic is 10.5 coppers per use, far better than the SFSoM’s 60 coppers per use. It’s only worth getting the SFSoM if you’re one of those people who use Mystic/Master kits on absolutely everything rather than just level 70+ rares and exotics.

Your cost calculation is horribly off. You are ignoring the actual cost of the mystic forge stones which are considerable.

1 fine salvage kit – 288
1 journeyman’s salvage kit – 800
1 master’s salvage kit – 1536
3 mystic forge stones – 45 Gems (cheapest) – 253125

(with a price of around 150 gold for 800 Gems…This is 5.33 Gems per gold….
that makes 45 Gems cost around 8.44 gold and you need 3 = 25.3125 Gold)

for a total of = 25g 57s 49c for 250 uses
per use = 1023 and for 25 uses to be equiv = 2g 55s 75c for a Mystic Salvage Kit

~ 2.56 Gold is definitelly not cheaper than a Master’s Salvage kit that costs 15s 36c

Also just for perspective at an average of 150 Gold per 800 Gems that would make the Silver Salvage-o-matic cost ~ 93.75 Gold is you trade gold for Gems that means after making 3.67 mystic salvage kits it would have been the same cost to just get the Silver Salvage-o-matic which takes up much less space.

Every mystic forge stone I have came from achievement point chests, login rewards, and black lion keys I got from map/story rewards. After two years of playing (and using mystic kits only for rares and exotics), I still have two stacks of mystic forge stones. The only time I was able to drop below two stacks was back when I was grinding enough to burn through a mystic kit a week, but since I’m not playing as much the stones just are just piling up again.

So cheapest is actually free, not 45 gems.

Of course, it’s a different story if you burn your stones in the mystic forge (which isn’t advisable since they don’t count as a fourth item of the same kind, thus randomize your results) or burn your mystic kits on uncommons and masterworks, but I’ve already said as much.

Why can't we trade players face-to-face?

Extolling the theoretical virtues of pure free markets is all fine and well, but GW2 is fundamentally incapable of supporting that. It would require changes in community policies, tools available to players (to allow enforcement of contracts), and methods to verify identity to ensure accountability that are currently unavailable.

Even if ANet were to implement such changes, it would turn GW2 into a niche game like Eve Online, that’s clearly not something ANet wants their game to become.

Why are the new prefixes crafting-only?

While it’s not a real solution, you get awarded one Viper’s armor box near the end of the HoT personal story, so you could make a full set if you run six characters through it.

That aside, the reason the new prefixes are account bound on acquire is likely because ANet doesn’t want non-HoT players to have access to HoT gear and skins, but they didn’t add a way to do an expansion check for gear (like the check they do when non-HoT players try to use Guild Hall services).

There’s also supposed to be a way you can jump off the airship, so if you ever wanted to soar through the skies of Gendarran Fields…

PSA: Silver Fed Salvage-o-matic is back!

[Suggestions] Future Elite Specializations

How about a Warrior elite specialization called the Corsair?

Gains access to pistols (main and off hand), venom utilities, deals a different set of CCs than hammers (like chilled, slowed, immobilized, blind, etc.), and the elite armor skin unlock can be a parrot shoulder piece that randomly pecks at your face.

Glass cannon strategy: exploit?

You actually get event credit if the event mobs hit you. It’s how you can easily AFK at boss spawns like the Dredge Commissar.

On that note, I’m surprised this ridiculous troll thread is still up and running.

You shouldn’t be getting credit for that, are you sure you don’t have a trait that gives you Retaliation when you get hit by a critical or drop below a health threshold? Or playing a guardian with a trait that burns enemies that shatter your aegis? All of those count as attacks on the enemy.

And it’s not a troll thread, the OP has been convinced it’s not an exploit, he just doesn’t like it, which is an opinion he’s fully entitled to.
