No exp, no loot, no point

Event mobs in SW never gave experience, it was a complaint I’ve had ever since the beginning of LS S2 – first it was mobs in the story instances didn’t give exp (and more importantly didn’t trigger Kill Effect traits/sigils/food), then the unpleasant discovery of event mobs in SW doing the same.

Guess it’s not a big enough issue for ANet to care about fixing.

That’s actually a blatant falsehood, event mobs in SW did and do give exp/loot, it’s just not in the volume you’re expecting, so it appears as if they give no loot, but I can confirm from my own experience that they did drop loot on occasion, even if the percentage was negligible(I’d get loot from at least 2 – 4 mobs each event…but that “loot” included junk items…it’s all “loot” in the end).

As for HoT event mobs not dropping loot, I haven’t run across that problem yet…I get loot from all event mobs, maybe not the type of loot you’re expecting, but those junk items add up after a while.

No, event mobs in SW absolutely do not give exp or drop loot. You might be confused because there are usually some regular mobs mixed into the event area and you see some drops from them, but none of the mobs that specifically spawn for base defense events give exp or drop loot. Equip a weapon with a Bloodlust or other similar stacking sigil and count how many stacks you have at the end of an event.

You’ll be lucky if you have any.

Edit: apparently it’s been changed since I last did SW, because going back to check now does trigger Kill Effects. So it’s something that actually has been addressed, just not before I got tired of that map; prior to this change I had to go around killing mobs on the map to build up Bloodlust before going to defense events, otherwise I wouldn’t have any stacks.

Please post a complete set of the boosters that we should use.
I have:
Birthday booster (100% exp)
Killstreak booster (
10?)
Strawberry ghost or other food (15)
Experience booster (
50)
Potion of Flame Legion Slaying (+15)

Am I missing something? I was getting approx 1300 experience per kill

Experience bonfire
Experience banner
Birthday cake gun + utility primer
Experience booster from the laurel merchant also stacks separately from the gem store experience booster, from what I’ve been told

Mobs with No Exp and/or Loot ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

Uh diminishing returns kills loot farming, at least in one particular zone until you move; basically loots will come fast and be plentiful until DR kicks in where item drops dry up completely. Only way to get around that is to spend around 1 hour in another zone then go back after so I do not buy that excuse about not allowing HoT event mobs to reward loot due to ‘farming issues’ at all. I think their real goal is to lower gold/item gains to boost TP prices/gem sales and it seems to be working.

Not what the OP was asking. He was asking why some mobs give exp but no loot, while other mobs don’t give exp and loot.

The distinction here is the experience.

Why can’t you do HoT stuff? Your signature says your main profession is a revenant.

I have a friend who gets DC’d every 10~20 minutes while in the new maps, so they can’t get any sort of credit in events, and even if they do manage to tag something by the time they reconnect and log back in they lose tag credit because the process took too long.

Just having HoT doesn’t mean you can actually do HoT content yet, sadly.

Edit: just to be clear, the fractal dailies are under the Fractals category, not under the same category as regular dailies. You’ll see them listed as “Fractal Journeyman”, “Fractal Adept”, “Fractal Elite”, and “Recommended Fractal ##”.

They do still drop loot, it’s just extremely rare now. No idea why they bothered with thie “fix”, almost every PUG I ran with skipped mobs in the reactor in favor of finishing the fractal as quickly as possible, even when they weren’t meta speed run groups.

Mobs with No Exp and/or Loot ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

I believe mobs that give no exp and no loot were a product of ANet’s efforts to stop loot farms in instances (like personal story) that had infinitely spawning mobs. They just took that model and applied it to subsequent content, all the while ignoring cries of people discovering that these types of mobs do not trigger Kill Effects and Vengeful Return.

Mobs that give exp but no loot existed before this and I have no idea why ANet didn’t use those instead, because they do prevent loot farms and will trigger Kill Effects properly.

Didn’t this exact issue get raised when mentor tags were first announced?

Wasn’t the official response that there would be mechanisms to report people for abusing mentor tags?

Has anyone tried right-clicking the tag and seeing if there’s a report option?

Not a solution. Stop sugarcoating.

So, let’s see…

I point out this issue was raised even before the launch. Fact.

I point out that ANet said they’d prevent abuse. Fact.

I ask if anyone has tested to see if they can actually report abuse. Not claiming this is a solution, simply asking if anyone actually tried. I’m curious if ANet did include such a mechanism, I’m not going to blindly assume they didn’t because I didn’t have any apples to test it on at the time of posting, so I asked a question

Are you really that salty over the issue that you’d call anything that isn’t parroting your opinion “sugarcoating”?

What exactly is abuse of a mentor tag though? Surely just popping one up can’t be considered abuse.

I imagine something like leading zergs off ledges in EotM or deliberately using the mentor tag to lend credence to trolling newbie questions would be considered griefing with the mentor tag. Maybe popping a mentor tag and refusing to do anything remotely mentor-like would fall under that as well, but would be harder to report due to the lack of anything in the logs for CS to actually review.

That aside, I’m not arguing about what is or is not abuse, it’s about what mechanisms ANet has to receive and review reports of abuse. It’s their job to determine what is abuse and punish accordingly, not ours.

Well, definitely they didn’t move the rewards to fractals, like they said they did. And on average, the loot from encryption boxes is so bad it’s not worth buying keys for them.

This is true even if you have the Fractal Mastery. You’ll probably average 15s for every 20s spent with a 1g junk item once every blue moon.

You can sell the encryption boxes themselves for around 23s on the TP though.

CoF Farming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

It is an abuse of an oversight in CoF’s mob spawn mechanics, but so what? It’s just experience, you still have to do map completion and achievements to get the Mastery points to actually progress in the tracks (experience only fills up the bar for one Mastery tier, to gain experience in the next tier you need to unlock it with a Master point first).

If someone has enough Mastery points to fully unlock all the core masteries, they deserve it. The experience wall is just an arbitrary time gate that many people have already pre-paid for in spades through playing the game for the past three years, the CoF farm serves as a means to avoid having to do it all over again just to unlock features (not even new content).

Scam Mail is getting super ANNOYING

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pandaman.4758

Pandaman.4758

Yes, ANet is always doing something about it, but it takes time for a CS rep to check the report and ban appropriately in addition to all the other requests they have to go through on a daily basis – some of which are requests from people trying to reclaim their accounts or scammers trying to steal accounts.

As for what ANet has tried to do to prevent scams… well, aside from the note at the bottom of every mail (which doesn’t always work, people can develop serious tunnel vision when they panic and focus only on trying to get to the link), they put outgoing mail restrictions for anything that might be spam (you’ll notice you can’t send more than two mails in quick succession unless the subject and text are different).

There isn’t much they can do beyond this without running the risk of severely inconveniencing regular players.

Luckily, masteries don’t really give you any specific gain over another player, so it’s trivial in the big picture. But I find it disappointing that seeing high ranks is nothing like ArenaNet promoted it to be, something of prestige. Now I just see exploiters, and it’s nothing special about that, at all. Oh well.

To be fair, nothing about Mastery rank was prestigious to begin with – all it represents is how much experience you hoovered up across events in their respective maps, which makes it a lazy version of Achievement Points.

I don’t think small guilds should get guild halls, but I do think that they should have an alternative that scales to them.

Why not? We paid the same for the game as everyone else.

You’re right, small guilds should have the option to get guild halls, but they still shouldn’t have reduced goals simply because they have fewer members. If a guild wants to put in less total resources, the results should reflect that; I just think there should be smaller alternatives that you can finish for less resources (so you can finish with a small, luxurious office instead of a sprawling, crumbling ruin with a hobo tavern in the middle of it).

If it’s just a matter of how much real money you paid, I would say it’s unfair for two people who paid a combined amount of $100~$200 to get the same prize as quickly as 30 people who paid a combined amount of $1,500~$3,000.

250 HP For Elites [Feedback][Merged]

Pandaman.4758

A simple fact that seems to escape the indignant folks on the forum is that 400 Hero Points isn’t challenging. It’s boring.

It’s the equivalent of the tired industry standard of taking a mob, giving it a different color, slapping some extra zeroes to its HP (hit points, not hero points, ironic that they share the same abbreviation), maybe giving it a new attack, and calling that a challenge. It’s the ham-fisted way of making content last longer than it has any right to be.

I would have preferred seeing elite specs locked behind an instanced event that was designed specifically to challenge their respective professions, but that’s not going to happen for HoT. Maybe we’ll see better in the next expansion.

You may be referring to a post that I had made a couple of months ago that was similar to this subject. I do recall that they had said in the POI there would be ways to report abuse of the system but not sure If they have come good on that tho.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Incoming-Mentor-Track/first#post5399559

Ah, yes, that’s the one, also from the announcement.

The mentor tag is distinct from a commander tag as it doesn’t cost gold, doesn’t work in World vs. World, and doesn’t allow for the formation of squads. While it’s possible that players could toggle mentoring mode on in order to grief others, Josh said that the key to making the Guild Wars 2 community healthier is to continue to provide tools for altruistic, helpful players as well as a robust reporting system for deterring malicious ones.

3. Anet is going to nerf this, thus providing another kick at dungeons, in which the players will complain once more and play the victim.

Let’s also not forget that the policy is “if it’s a fraudulent key then your account gets shut off until you buy a real one.” The fact that my account still stands 2 days after this whole affair means that this policy wasn’t upheld and therefore I didn’t invoke need for this policy. AKA they don’t think I have a bad key.

EDIT: I will say this again, someone BOUGHT this with 50 bucks, from arenanet, then gave it to me for 30. That’s not fraudulent, not in the slightest.

Actually, doing a quick search of Kinguin suggests someone didn’t buy this for $50. It’s likely the seller bought a copy in a country where the exchange rate is enough that they can profit from reselling it for $30 (after some exchange/commodity juggling, that is), so while the key itself may be legit you likely ran into another problem.

Namely selling accounts is against the rules of conduct.

So your account isn’t fully disabled because the key is legit, but it may be partially disabled due to some other issue. You’ll have to submit a ticket to CS to find out exactly what.

Next time just buy from official retailers if you don’t want to risk this kind of headache.

I very much doubt Anet would block any account based on reselling accounts. Problem with sites like kingwin is you are doing some gambling.
see Kingwin is a market place not a shop, its kinda ebay if you will. You find different kinds of sellers. some are able to offer cheap prices because of grey markets (a game might sell cheaper in countries with low wages for example) sometimes they’re cheap because they leverage exchange rates (though I doubt that will translate to over $20 difference)

But sometimes you get the short end of the stick… People buy keys using stolen credit cards and resell them. Eventually legitimate owners of those credit cards realize that their card has been used fraudulently, report to their bank which triggers a charge-back. When that happens the key associated with that charge back is naturally going to be disabled. Think this is a much more likely scenario then OP having his account disabled because of account reselling.

I was under the impression that the OP’s account was only partially disabled. If a chargeback did occur he wouldn’t be able to log onto the forum to even post a complaint, much less hop on his account to take screenshots of his character select screen.

But yes, grey markets are a gamble regardless of the reason, OP made a mistake and shouldn’t be blaming ANet at all.

Sometimes you don’t even need more shares than the current chairman’s to influence a company. Activist shareholders routinely influence larger companies through a combination of holding shares and convincing other shareholders to vote with them.

Judging from the article it’s pretty clear Nexon was doing exactly that, but gave up and cut their losses when they (presumably) couldn’t secure enough friendly votes to rival the NCSoft/Net Marble alliance. Given how aggressive Nexon was in trying to exert control over NCSoft, it’s really not unreasonable to assume they were already pushing their agenda long before this fight.

And losing. Otherwise they wouldn’t have tried to take control. In the end Nexon ate some $150 million plus in just lost stock value.

I think a hostile takeover was the plan from the start, given Nexon had a subsidiary buy just enough shares to push them over 15% without being required to declare. The timing would certainly have been due to NCSoft’s shares hitting an all-time low of 125,000 won (compared to its high of 368,500 won in Nov. 2011), which would have made shareholders more amenable to Nexon’s attempt to take over.

Thank goodness they failed though, can’t imagine how bad it would be if Nexon actually had serious say in the business model.

Beta RNG makes me cry

Pandaman.4758

As stated by others already, this is exactly why I don’t participate in the beta.

My luck is already terrible enough that I’ve played 644 days without a single precursor, Tequatl Hoard, or any exotic weapons worth more than 4g. Why in the world would I risk actually getting any of those on a beta character knowing full well it’ll go up in smoke as soon as the beta ends?

To test the game for bugs and give feedback before release and have a chance at playing the new elite specs. In my opinion you should make no progress to reward tracks AT ALL on beta characters because the rewards are useless anyway. They just end up cluttering your inventory.

Er, it was a rhetorical question. I’m well aware of the purpose of the beta, I just value the possibility of getting a good drop more than the chance to play a specialization a few weeks early.

Meh. The possibility of a precursor drop is so small, you’re probably more likely to get hit by lightning walking out to your car. The beta is a sure thing. See the map. Try out the new profession(s). Get a start on figuring out where to go and what to do when the expansion begins so you’re not aimlessly wandering around trying to figure it out while others are sprinting past you. Myself, I’m not going to pass up on a sure thing just because of the extremely small chance that the stars will line up exactly right and a precursor drops.

Which is, amusingly, the same reason why I did give up on the beta: its contents are a sure thing, if I pass it up now I’ll be able to do it when it’s officially released. I’m not terribly concerned about other people sprinting past be because the fact is there will always be people ahead of me as well as people behind me; I can afford to spend a day learning the maps and still have plenty of people at the same level as me to roll around with.

Also no release is ever bug free, I expect the people sprinting ahead of me to be tripping over all the unpatched bugs like server hiccups during raids or no rewards for completing events. I’m quite content being in the second wave of players to enjoy the less buggy experience
