Yeah, the rewards are crap – in former years there were additional pvp chests – that was better.
ETA: And I don’t expect anyone to bother this year. Maybe next wintersday.
Don’t hold your breath, Snowball Mayhem has always been terrible for gifts, it wasn’t brought up to parity with the other events last year or this year, so you have a snowball’s chance in hell it’ll be next year.
If the PvP reward track is the most profitable method, its kinda hilarious.
Nothing against the pvp reward track, but it isn’t even a Wintersday activity. It’s really not.
Winning a hotjoin, or losing an unranked/ranked match gives you 500 points (assuming the game lasted at least 7 minutes, you get less points if the game ends sooner than that), so it takes 1.5 hours to get through two tiers that way; if you look at the 2015 reward track that’s 31 gifts for the first 1.5 hours, another 32 gifts for the next 1.5 hours, 53 after that, and 160 when you finally reach the end of the track for a grand total of 276 gifts.
That’s a minimum of 6 hours for 276 gifts, 4 if you pop a PvP reward booster.
You can cut the time by a third if you manage to win every unranked/ranked match, but that’s still 1.3~2 hours for 276 gifts; you’re obviously not going to win every match though, so it’ll be more like 2~3 hours.
Conversely someone who’s good at the JP can complete 12~16 jumps in half an hour, so by the first hour they’d already be sitting on 240~320 gifts (plus another 3~6 personalized gifts for completing the JP 15 times), in the second hour they’ve already left the best PvP player behind with 489~652 gifts.
The sole exception to this is if the PvP player spent 2~3 months saving the potions they get from PvP dailies, in which case they’ll be able to instantly complete the Wintersday Reward Track 45 times to get all the gifts they need for 10k drinks. That information is useless to you unless you have a time machine, of course.
I saved all the pvp potions for about half a year to prepare for HoT. I had ~400 potions and it got me 5 reward tracks (the 4 HoT ones and 1 halloween completion)
Oh, kitten , that’s right. 80 potions per track, 45 tracks, 3,600 potions, 6 potions a day, so saving for 20 months, not 2~3.
I can maths.
Asuming you dont forget to get the last 2 after the daily stops showing up on your screen after the first 4.
Well, you can immediately track all four PvP dailies as soon as the daily login chest pops up, so that’s a good way to remember them.
Also having a second account really helps, picked one up during the $10 sales, kinda wish I picked up a third as well now.

Truly a skin that lives up to its name, well played, ANet.
So if people pvp competitively you’re saying they should have absolutely no chance to get exclusive items under a time gate because they have to worry about also progressing through leagues?
Unless you saved PvP potions from the dailies.
A full Wintersday track will net you 170 gifts, 6 personal gifts, and an Ultimate Wintersday Gift (which has the option for 100 gifts in it); you need 12,500 gifts to get 10k drinks, so you need to finish the track roughly 45.3 times, which can be achieved with 3,600 potions, which in turn takes a little over 20 months to accrue. Of course, you’ll have 15 stacks of potions burning kitten in your bank until Wintersday starts, but what else do you have to use the potions on?
I was only able to save them up for a month before Wintersday, so I was only able to get 5k drinks in the first couple of days (had to take a few breaks from clicking all those gifts) and have to grind for the rest, but I knew of people who were already saving them up long before me.

Best to just visit the gallery on the wiki and see what might work. You can pick race, gender, and weight options from the links on the bottom of the page.
That being said, best chance for a Santa look seems to be with light armors, unless you want a Santa that bares his midriff/chest at the children.
The 10k drinks part of the collection will be left active throughout the year, so it’s not quite time sensitive, but the fact is you’ll only make real progress during Wintersday. Hopefully this means that your drink progress won’t reset next Wintersday, which was what a lot of people assumed would happen since most seasonal achievements don’t carry over (the only exception I’m aware of being the two achievements for doing the quest that comes from the orphan letter).
I actually still enjoy doing the JP, must have a good emotion chip installed.
I find it incredibly frustrating. Not because it’s difficult (can manage 12~13 runs every half hour), but because it can take several hours just to get in thanks to the “world is full” bug.
Even if you’re really good at the JP, your hourly average gets dragged down by all the time wasted just trying to spam into a map.
My major gripe about Toypocalypse would be that you can’t do it with friends anymore. It used to go really quickly back when it was an instance you can join with a party, but now that it’s PUG-only (and filled with people who refuse to cooperate) it takes way too long for the rewards it gives.
If using a mouse causes your wrist too much strain, I would suggest trying a trackball instead. It takes getting used to, but the thumb offers much finer control than a mouse does (even comparing a low DPI trackball vs. a high DPI mouse).
I would suggest something like the Elecom M-XT2URBK, but you would have to swap out the ball with one from an old Logitech Trackman (discontinued due to lawsuit by some European mouse designer) because the one that comes with the Elecom model has a flaw that causes the laser to miss some movements (probably the color, Logitech balls are blue or red with black dots for the laser to track, the Elecom ball is almost pure black with silver flecks).
Failing that, I suppose you can give a controller a shot, I don’t know how you could set that up though, because you can bind almost everything to a controller except the camera controls (which you really need for those tight turns).
That’s the thing: Toypocalypse is a tower defense mini game and thus works like a tower defense game. You build towers, upgrade them, and watch your defenses obliterate the waves. There’s nothing revolutionary about that, it’s just something different from GW2’s usual game modes.
FYI: If you’re hurt, you hug that big glowy pillar in the center (have to stand on the little ring surrounding it) and it’ll heal you for 5k HP per tick, and if the dolyaks are hurt you feed them hay to heal them.
I wish you all the best, but you will be your own grave (like me now

Goodbye all!Can I have your stuff?
What would you like? Say fast – I’m getting banned soon
Drama Queen! ¬.¬
Unless you’ve spoiled Star Wars, in which case Yea probably. Not really Drama Queen, I actually did a thing very very offensive, against the rules, which is worth of perm ban. And I acted my own way, so I’m fine with that. I’ll not be anyone’s puppet, there is noone who gets special treatment, in my eyes – all are equal, cuz we all are humans.
But yea, you got that thing right, I didn’t spoil Star Wars – so maybe I don’t get perm banned. haha, funny right?
Honestly, you’re really overreacting as this isn’t something worth getting yourself banned over. Gaile is simply saying you can report abusive behavior, and ruining other people’s fun is abusive.
The bold part is pretty questionable. Following that logic, each and everyone would be on the brink to a ban. Don’t like someone skipping in dungeons? It’s not fun to you? Report them, so they get banned. Don’t like someone not skipping in dungeons? It’s not fun to you? Report them, so they get banned. Someone choses an armor style you don’t like to see? It’s not fun to you? Report them, so they get banned. And so on.
See, reporting people for actually trying to scam, for insulting others etc. is one thing, to demand a ban for spoiling a movie makes one sound like one of those grumpy elder people sitting at their window all day long, waiting for someone passing by showing just the tiniest glimps of missbehaving so they can call the cops.
P.S.: I’m a huge Star Wars Fan myself, I already submited free days at work in january and got my midnight premiere tickets as soon as pre-sales opened. Being aware of the possibility of spoilers by monday dec. 14th. (date of world premiere) I just added a lil more cautioness while browsing the web and consuming other media and guess what? No spoilers for me
If I wasn’t such a big fan, I probably wasn’t that careful, but on the other hand, I wouldn’t have cared much about spoilers anyway /shrug
I understand what you’re saying, but I would argue the critical difference here is how much control you have over the situation.
Getting into a dungeon party that’s labeled as a speed run group and having your fun ruined because they don’t want to play your way is more like walking into a room with “WARNING: SPOILERS INSIDE” painted in bright neon colors on the door and complaining you got spoiled; you had the option of avoiding it, you didn’t take it, so you forfeited any right to complain.
Conversely having a movie you wanted to watch get spoiled in mapchat or unsolicited mail/whispers is more akin to going to a world boss and seeing a handful of players glitch it to cause it to fail (or guarantee a win); you don’t have the option to avoid this behavior because you didn’t know it was going to happen, but by that point it’s too late. It was forced upon you by people who either wanted it to inconvenience you or didn’t care if it did, that’s behavior that should be corrected – it can’t be prevented, but it shouldn’t be allowed to go unchecked.
Now people who defend spoilers would say you have all the control you need over the situation, you just need to gouge out your eyes and stab your ears because it’s too much to expect people to not be jerks, or that people are free to say whatever they want with absolutely no fear of consequences. Neither sounds reasonable to me.

I don’t have enough "no"s for this.
Skins being locked being a RNG that you have to pay for is a ridiculous concept that should not be expanded upon. If I wanted to waste my money or time gambling, I’d buy lottery tickets instead.
It’s just so silly that people say it’s all ruined, they cry, they want someone perm banned, they QQ in forums cuz of a spoiler.
Really? Is this World really come to this?
We all care just about a “secret”, just about “one part”. Where is all that movies has to offer, is that all unimportant?Frodo throw ring and beats Sauron! Oh noooo, you spoiled all!!! Now I will not watch movie and I will not read books! You are so mean, sooo mean, you should go in prison!! Or get banned in game! Unrelated to Lotr!
See how silly it is? Just cuz of one tiny part of whole that you can enjoy, you choose not to enjoy it at all!
If that’s the reason, then you are watching and doing things with wrong reasons! And all there is to be, is just that “secret”, just those “few seconds”, cuz everything else is ruined – you don’t even care about other things!Seems like it’s more important to find out a “secret” then the actual story itself.
Pity.Reporting someone doesn’t mean they want a permaban, stop being so hysterical. People want some sort of punitive action taken against spoilers, that’s all, what’s so hard to understand about that?
If you spoil a movie for a friend, do you honestly believe they won’t get annoyed? Now how do you think a total stranger would react in the same situation?
You kinda throw word “hysterical” without any reasons. I’m really calm, my emotions are controlled, just putting my opinions out there.
It’s hard not to see you as being hysterical when you exaggerate what’s going on here and actively try to get yourself banned by insulting Gaile over it.
I wish you all the best, but you will be your own grave (like me now

The real challenge this year isn’t the jumping puzzle itself, it’s getting into the jumping puzzle.
Last year the challenge was walking down slopes without dying.
(edited by Pandaman.4758)
During the sneak peeks and interviews that ANet was releasing over the months leading up to the release, one of the things that was pointed out (by Colin, I believe) was that even years after release people were still discovering things about GW2 Core (like you can /threaten Ornery Crabs and that would cause them to run away) and they really wanted to recreate that in the new maps. I can see that they did try very hard to do that and there are indeed some things you can discover… but there’s a flaw to their approach.
Namely people don’t notice small details when the world is falling down around their heads.
Few are going to stop to look at little curiosities when they’re busy repeating the same events over and over to get the map to Tier 4, or busy hunting ariship/wrapped/crystallized boxes/pods for the map-specific currencies. The first few weeks, or even months, that most people spend doing the maps will invariably be to grind for the rewards – and by the time they’re done getting the rewards they might be too sick of the map to actually appreciate those discoveries that the developers put in.
The maps are very much designed to be explored, the problem is the meta events contradicts that design by making the players feel like they have to rush.
It really is a shame, not everyone has the time to log back in at a later hour to check if the JP maps have freed up, which means they’d have to farm even more in subsequent days to make up for the lost time.
It seems like some of those mocking the people who don’t want spoilers may not understand why they don’t want them.
It’s more accurate to say they don’t care to understand because it doesn’t affect them.
Of course, they’re also generally hypocrites who whine the loudest when something does affect them, so it’s not like anyone should take them seriously.
Hey all. Just wanted pop in give some insight on this change. First off, sorry for the undocumented change. It is always our goal to get everything in the release notes, in spite of what the last few updates may have led you to believe

Now, this reduction in refinement is one of a few different options we were looking at to bring the cost of wood back in line, but it wasn’t actually intended to ship yet. Since it is out there now, enjoy! But we will be keeping an eye on the economy of this and other common materials. If in the future things crash or explode (that’s economy talk for “crash” or “explode”) the refinement recipes are one area we can adjust to keep things stable.
Merry Wintersday!Yes but you do realize you always go about this like a bull in a china shop! reducing it from 4 to 3 and then seeing how it was for a month and then to 2 if needed is a MUCH more responsible way to handle this. also for all those that have had to buy and or make using 4, this is a realkittenfrom anet, especially as you are giving free cash to the fractal guys.
Well, if you actually read the post he straight up says it was an accident.
Also if you watched the Mythbusters episode bulls actually deftly avoid crashing into shelves full of china.
Also I’m fun at parties.
Not really.
But in game it says “Only available during Grindersday” on the Grinder’s Presence entry for the drink achievement. And where do I get Grindersday drink from when it’s no longers Grindersday?
hmmm dev posts have got “after thought, but not much of it” written all over them.
You can still get gifts from the Christmas tree in your home instance (if you completed the quest to get the Star of Gratitude), which produces one gift a day. That’s not much, but there will be people selling their gifts on the TP over the year, although there’s no guarantee it will be at the same rate is used to go for (around 6~7 silvers).
More importantly, however, is that this implies the achievement won’t reset in progress when the next Wintersday rolls around. Well, hopefully.
If I’ve seen a movie that I liked, I’ll want to talk about it. It’s not my fault that someone else is the one who doesn’t want spoilers.
However it would be your fault if you were discussing the spoiler in a public space with a loudspeaker pressed firmly to your lips. Mapchat is not a private discussion, it’s public, so ideally you should…
Have some common sense.
… and talk about your movie with others in a more private forum. Squad chat is a perfectly viable way for someone to establish an impromptu private channel with dozens of other people who have already seen the movie or don’t mind spoilers.
Of course people are going to talk about it, and that’s not their problem. If the person with the issue has options to stop seeing potential spoilers, then utilise them and quit whining. There are more than enough options in-game for that already.
The opposite is true as well: there are in-game options to discuss something without disturbing others, so why isn’t it their fault for not doing so? How is it reasonable to blame someone for doing something as passive and innocuous as reading the public chat of a game that has absolutely no relations to the Star Wars franchise?
I’m not a fan of SJWs telling people how to behave, but that doesn’t mean the answer is to abandon common decency and act like a jerk in public.
I guess I’ll nominate “Just a flesh wound.3589” for no reason than that’s the first name that popped in my head.
Had the same issue last year, but that resolved itself after I got my first (and only) aquabreather because of how useless it is.
Stat selection is too limited, the ice effect is tied to the item and not a skin (doesn’t even have a unique skin), gets annoying after a few minutes of constant tinkling, and what little utility value it had was lost the moment ascended breathers (arguably easier to get as well) were introduced.
Before making it easier to get, I think ANet should address its flaws as a reward first.
Just HoT. HoT have core game include free for new customer.
heh
isnt that kind of a middle finger to the ppl who bought both?
If someone bought the game a year or more before HoT came out and spent less than an average of $10 a month buying gems, they got their $40~$60 worth and $50 for the expansion is perfectly justified.
If they spent more than $10 a month and treated it like a voluntary subscription fee in an effort to support ANet, then the expansion is overpriced.
These skins are suppose to take time to give prestige. I have only seen two people with nightfury, and one with the snow one.
This is good, it adds what the game needs. Just my two cents. I know people will complain about needing to grind for something they want for free or cheap. But it is what it is, and remember it is an optional thing to do. If you want it, commit to it.
I have to question the wisdom in that, honestly. For a genre that’s in a rat race to appeal to as many potential players as possible, it seems self-defeating to implement rewards that only benefit a minority of the player base.
That being said, I’m not advocating anything silly like making every skin available sans any effort, I’m okay with the idea of prestigious skins… but I would rather they actually represent something that reflects that prestige; PvP tournament armor skins, PvP league backpiece, and (eventually) PvE raid armor are good examples of cosmetics that actually have prestige because they’re actually earned – the Halloween and Wintersday shoulders are not, because all they represent are luck and wealth respectively.
I mean, really, anyone who’s walking around with a snowy aura right now 100% got that from buying drinks from the TP, how’s that any more prestigious than the people who bought their legendaries off the TP?
I did all the Other acheivements today and grinded out the jp for about an hour or two and got 1000 drinks done. This should take 10 days min if it’s done casually, maybe 20 if you only have an hour a day. No worries everyone
Is that your first one or two hours doing Wintersday achievements? Keep in mind that tomorrow you won’t have all the extra gifts from completing achievements, so you’ll only be limited to what you can grind from doing the activities.
You have 9,000 drinks left to go and the drinks have an 80% chance to drop (according to dulfy), so you’ll need around 11,250 more gifts in the remaining 12 days, which is roughly 938 gifts per day; at 10 gifts per completion, you’re looking at roughly 94 completions every day, which means you would have to average 1 minute 20 seconds per completion (not including loading time since the JP map closes every 20 minutes, so you’ll need to be faster than that) to fit within your claim of two hours.
A more realistic estimate would be 3~4 hours of grinding the JP every day, which sounds like a terrible way to spend the holiday, honestly.
Also when does winters day end? I’m hopping it lasts a month so I can miss a day of farming the drinks, but if not its still doable.
GW2 seasonal events normally last two weeks.

Shush, stop making sense.
The bugs in the final fight are more likely to happen if you die and have to restart that part, which can’t be fixed without restarting the fight again.
It’s been bugged like this since HoT went live, I don’t expect to see a fix for it until after they finish releasing raids.
For a brief moment I was so happy to see a thread complaining about the patch speed… until I saw the patch notes.
“Fixed a server crash.”
Guess it won’t be until next week that we see a fix for the various collections.
They fixed the server crash. If you can’t log in, the server can’t crash. Fixed.
That’s pretty zen.
“If a server crashes but nobody is on it, has it truly crashed?”

I’m pretty sure this has been asked for since day one, given GW1 allowed weapon dyes. Given ANet hasn’t done anything about it in the past 3 years and keeps adding weapon sets with no dye channels it seems highly unlikely it will ever happen.
And here I thought this was going to be an “Indoctrination Theory” post, but for GW2.
Been doing it every day for a year now, but I’ve given up. At some point the frustration of not getting the single skin I wanted overcame the enjoyment of doing the event and what rewards I did get.
Not only can I not be bothered to log on to do Teq, I don’t even want to go there if I do happen to be on while it’s happening. RNG has made an otherwise enjoyable and rewarding event unbearable to play. Good design, ANet.
Re-reading the OP’s post, I wonder if spy kits would allow you to grab that hero point commune?
There is the 3 second stealth kit. I think you can use it while moving
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Order_of_Whispers_Spy_KitAnd there is the 10 second stealth where you can’t move but can commune.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ash_Legion_Spy_KitThere is also the harpy feathers that give 3 seconds of stealth.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Harpy_Feathers_
Last time I tried the Ash Legion Spy Kit (about a month ago) it gave me one second of stealth (was trying to commune with that one place in Malchor’s that’s protected by a champion). I’m not sure if they’ve bothered to fix it.
(edited by Pandaman.4758)
The December 1st patch seems to have broken collection unlocks for several of the collections, no point in continuing with any of them until it’s fixed.
Revisited the instance and they’re still there, definitely no meta event going on in the DS map I came from. Probably enabled them by accident when they were fixing the Tethered achievement.
That looks.like the mouth of mordramoth. Probably an unintended bug. Had a DS meta just finished when this happened? Just asking as that’s what could be causing the bug.
I don’t believe so, the DS map I hopped into didn’t seem to have any activity, but since the story and lobby are both in their own instance it shouldn’t be affected by the progress of the meta, should it?
I’ll have to revisit that map and see if it’s still there.
I just completed Prized Possessions on a character that picked the scholar backpiece, got a Resilient Priory Belt as part of the reward, but the collection itself did not update. I didn’t run into this problem when I did the Vigil and Whisper’s collections, but both of those were prior to the Dec 1st patch.
Does anyone know why ANet added that massive… thing to the top of the spiral tree? Was there some kind of horrible exploit involving the top of that map? I hope this wasn’t the intended fix, because the only thing it seems to do right now is make it even easier to get pushed into the geometry and make it impossible to talk to Braham in the lobby (since he’s standing smack dab in the middle of it).
kitten – obviously not a real kitten mask – that would just be perverted!! 4 letter word, starts with ’g’and ends with an ‘imp’
We already have a helmet skin of a crab clinging to our face, I would think a helmet skin of a kitten clinging to our head would be adorable.
Today while running the cliffside fractal we had the hammer disappear from our hands twice, both times while a guardian was holding the hammer.
First time I was running up the ramp, had about 14 stacks of hammer corruption on me, and hit F2 to cleanse some conditions, which immediately caused the hammer to disappear.
Second time it was the other dragon hunter who picked up the hammer during the final fight, hammer disappeared from his hands while he was hitting a chanter.
I don’t understand a few things
How does he know that you play guild wars 2? and how does he know your nickname in game
maybe you have some spy cameras installed in you room
From what the OP described, the stalker is someone they befriended in-game and played with for some period before the relationship turned pear-shaped.
No real mystery there.
Can the developpers please stop ignoring us?

memory fragmentation is not a problem is anet’s code. It is a problem with anet is hitting the limits of what windows can do.
If adding 64 bit does not work, then I wonder how long before they start rolling their own memory allocation. I know firefox does it.
My focus was in information systems, not operating systems, so please correct me if I’m wrong.
To my understanding the OS is handling memory allocation, but it’s the program that dictates the lifespan of each asset in the allocation, no? Fragmentation is caused if you have assets of different lifespans in the same heap, but isn’t that the fault of the program for not preloading longer lifespan assets so they’re assigned to the same heaps? Or what about the possibility that assets that should have shorter lifespans are being kept around too long?
There have been other threads with people complaining about needing events to fail to get their collection items and, yes, it absolutely is an inexcusably bad design choice.
I remember an early interview where a dev (Colin, I think it was?) said something along the lines of never wanting players to feel bad when another player showed up (granted this was regarding loot drops), but whoever picked the events for these collections clearly didn’t think about that at all.
Can the developpers please stop ignoring us?

Thing is we still have people on 64-bit client and 8+ GB of RAM reporting crashes, so address limitations isn’t the only cause of this issue.
Read the 64-bit Client Beta FAQ linked in a sticky thread at the top of this forum:
Please read my earlier post where I said:
I’m not denying that it might help, but nobody should be under the impression that “just” by using the 64 bit client is guaranteed to solve the crashing problems – which is the attitude I see too frequently when people dismiss crash complaints.
The replies are just getting further and further away from context.
