[Suggestion] Self-made outfits in wardrobe

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Phineas Drayke.6381

I have the same problem. I love having differnet outfits for different situations.
Especially now that we are heading into the desert. My solution until now was to have different sets, but it starting to take a lot of place in my inventory^^

Actually, the idea of having a wardrobe system like Lotro could be implemented with no loss for Anet. Actually, it could increase the demand for transmutation stones.

Make it so that you have one tab for the armor you are wearing. Than you can unlock extra appearance tabs (the first one for like 5 gold and the next ones for gems maybe).
This overide the appearance of the equipement. And to put an appearance in one of the 6 slots of an appearance tab, you have to pay 1 transmutation stone.
But you can switch freely between the normal look, or the appearance tabs you have unlocked.

So lets say I have my normal transmuted equipement : 6 Stones
Now if I want extra looks, i pay 6 Stones for each tab (+ price to unlock)
Win for Anet, win for me (and maybe others?)^^

Playing a toon of the opposite gender?

I play mostly male characters, for the simple reason that I rp all of my chars. And I really suck at impersonating female chars. I have one female norn necro. And to make it easier for me to impersonate her, I made her mute… And that wasn’t any easier
So I just stick with my male chars.
It hasn’t anything to do with feeling unease.

Racial Elite Specializations

Phineas Drayke.6381

I posted almost the same idea so I upvote yours.
I would really love something along the lines of racial specs to expand the lore, add variety and most of all give some identity back to our races.

To prevent from content exclusion, this specs could simply be pve only and not available in raids/fractals.

I would gladly pay for something like this, like a dlc. Because it adds variety without being forced to have it to play challenging content.

(we even thought of the same spec names for some races…)

[Suggestion] Cultural elite specializations

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Phineas Drayke.6381

Phineas Drayke.6381

Hi.
So I’m posting this idea I had to expand a bit the lore of the races we got. I find the GW2 races actually very interesting. But after the first chapters, there’s not much left. Also, the “cultural” skills are not very interesting to use. I use them often in normal maps for fun purpose but they’re weak and do not last long enough.
For example I’d like to stay a bit longer in Bear form or Snow Leopard form as my norn. Same thing with the golems of my asura.
So I thought of something that could be added to expand the cultural identity of each race.

The idea:
With the new elite spec function, we could have for each race one “cultural elite spec” which could be PvE-only (raids/fractals excluded to prevent content-exclusion).
And to unlock those cultural specs, I thought of something along the lines of the “Bonus mission pack” for GW1. Instead to simply unlock them via the hero points, we could get some short missions expanding the lore of each culture and their elite specialization.
This could make for some nice combos and add variety among the classes.
There is no need to add a special weapon for those cultural specs. Instead, add Traits to make the existing utilities and elites more interesting, and perhaps add some special playstyle. And some utilities.
As an example I’ve already thought about what the human, norn, asura specs could be (the more obvious ones for me).

Human cultural elite spec: Dervish
Dervishes have the ability to evoke the power of the gods. F5 (I think this one isn’t used on any profession) changes your form to become the avatar of a god (the one equipped on the elite). This gives you some special effects on your normal attacks like burning for Balthazar and your elite becomes some kind of god-related finisher (also ending your transformation).
Utilities function as enchantments. One passive effect for a short duration, another effect when it ends. The utilities have an ascended form, when you’re transformed.
You keep your weapons when transformed, but your 1-5 skills apply an additional effect.

Norn cultural elite spec: Shaman
Same principle, but with the norn forms. And the utilities could be the summoning of some lesser spirits. Norns would lose their weapons but the equipped weapons stats transferred to your 1-5 beastly skills. The forms could make your character tankier (bear), faster (wolf), sneaky (snow leopard),…

I won’t explain them all but here some other ideas I have.
Asuran cultural elite spec: Golemancer
Charr : Mechanic (using vehicles or canons)
Sylvari : Herbalist (plant stuff…………)
Tengu (you never now and I can always hope^^): Witch doctor

I don’t know if something like this was already suggested, so forgive me if it is. And also sorry if some formulations aren’t correct. Not used to talk/write in English.

I wasn’t in any beta, so I’m asking myself: Is there any visual indication ingame that you are a scrapper or a daredevil, like does your icon change?
Or is it just the name of the spec in the traits, in which case I don’t get all the fuzz around the names of the elite specs.
I just see those like gameplay variations of my thief, engineer or whatever and I couldn’t care less about their name (lorewise or rp wise).

My main thief is specced Duel/acrobatics but for me he’s just a Swashbuckler

Back to topic: Scrapper sounds good. I’m waiting to see what the french translation will be. What we got till now was rather funny ^^

No Capes!?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Phineas Drayke.6381

Phineas Drayke.6381

Actually, they could do the Charr capes like the one from the Balthazar outfit, so when they run on all 4, the cape doesn’t land on their muzzle. If it’s a physics based cape like it was more or less in GW1.
If it’s a “hard” cape like in Wow (or the buttcapes we already have IG), no problems there. It just floats over the tail and stays straight when the cats run.

Ok, this may just be a very personal need. With the new Crystal Nomad outfit added on the gemstore, I really want to buy it, but those enourmous floating crystals around just don’t fit (my personal taste). I like the nomad theme on it, fits perfect to explore deserts or maybe the upcoming jungle. But those crystals…

Same thing for the Shadow Assassin Outfit. I bought it, but it fits only on my asura as the shoulderpads are tooo big.

But is this even possible? It doesn’t seem to be complicated as we already have the possibility to hide the helmet on those outfits. Perhaps there are other technical issues with this?

I know this is not really an issue, more a matter of taste. And it really should have low priority. But if it’s not too complicated, they could put it in some future small update

Arena in LA

Phineas Drayke.6381

I’ve been wondering since launch why they hadn’t implemented the arena or at least the place were the arena could have been physically in LA.

I’m not really into PvP (sometimes I do, but I really suck at it…) but like you, I would like to be able to be a spectator and place bets. I would even try it out once or twice.

But to be implemented in a non-invasive way, it could be an instanced location in LA, where you choose which match is available or is going to start in the next moments and which you want to assisst as a spectator, physically. And once you’re in an instance, room, you can stay there and watch other matches until you leave or disconnect.

I think it has to be instanced or you would have unending queues to get in a match as a team.

Other sword I like is the Honor of Humanity. Really cheap, has the looks of roman Swords. Gives me a Gladiator feeling

[Suggestion] Diversified Enemy AI

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Phineas Drayke.6381

Phineas Drayke.6381

Hi,
Since I saw the HoT trailer, I’ve been thinking about how most trailers in general give a feeling of adventure, discovery etc but often that feeling gets lost once you play the game (although I hope it won’t with HoT).

Why?

In my very personal opinion, I concluded that it is because that feeling of danger, of discovery of something new gets lost after a few hours of gameplay. It gets repetitive. Yes you have some world bosses with interesting AI’s were you have to go through some tactics to win. However, in general you have to « swing that sword again » to get over enemies after enemies.
Why limit the interesting AI of enemies to boss encounter and dungeons? Can’t the AI of the enemies you encounter through general pve gameplay be more diversified too?

For example:
In the HoT trailer, you see a group of adventures sticking together because danger is approaching. You see another group being chased by some monster and they actually have to flee. I’d really like to experience something like that.
Imagine having some nice and dangerous AI that act as if they have an actual personality!

There are a few types of AI’s, I would find interesting. I don’t know if any of these are feasible. Or if others would like these.

1. Predator AI
Make some enemies actually hunt you, with diverse tactics and not just stupidly follow you for 10 meters. Make them hide, make traps, ambush you, so that you actually have to improvise some tactics to take him down or just to survive. Make the enemy change and adapt his tactics on the run so that you can’t follow a pattern to beat him. It shouldn’t be too hard tactics that you have to study through by wiping 10 times, but just to push you to adapt.

2. Hive Mind AI
This one could have been very nice with the Risen. However, it could be adapted to mordrems or destroyers perhaps. I’m thinking of Left for dead or World War Z (not talking about the quality of those). Remember the Hordes of Zombies attacking you? That could literally run you over? Make those enemies easy to kill when alone, but if they « organize » themselves to become a Horde and attack altogether, you would think twice before going all Leeroy, ehm I mean Kilroy, on them.

3. Adaptive AI
When we got Tequatl 2.0, we had to study the strategy, and adapt our way of fighting him. We had to learn his moves to beat him. Why can’t enemies do the same? Make them capable of learning during the fight. You called some Meteor shower on him? Next time he will move from the zone. You stunned him with your shield? Next time you start charging with your shield, he will dodge. Etc.

These are some examples. Not every mob has to have such AI, but some enemies could. And it’s really not about making the game uberhardcore, just more diversified and fun.
I think this could make the game more immersive and the NPC believable. You would actually think twice before charging in some group of enemies. You would feel the danger of being hunted.

What do you think?
Got other ideas for interesting AI’s?

PS: I hope you understand what I mean, my english is a bit rusted…

"They're with the dragon now." So what?

in Lore

Posted by: Phineas Drayke.6381

Phineas Drayke.6381

I see the sylvari as creations, like the destoyers. Not corrupted minions.

And in my personal opinon, I see them more like sleeping agents. Like they were meant to “infiltrate” the other races and than have them destroyed from the inside (order 66 anyone?). If I remember well, the jungle dragon is also the dragon of minds. If he has access to sylvari minds, he now has acces to all the races “minds” because he knows how they work, he knows their secrets, their tactis, etc simply because sylvari were accepted among all those races.

And the dream was a protection because it simply disconnected the sylvari from the dragon, but not completly like we saw in the final LS cinematic.

Mordrem wolves are creations. Risen are already dead, so…
And sylvari were once friends… I think I’ll lock them up in a farmhouse and wait till we find a cure… I mean a ritual…

"They're with the dragon now." So what?

in Lore

Posted by: Phineas Drayke.6381

Phineas Drayke.6381

Yes, sylvari turned out to be dragon minions.
Yes, they turned on the pact (not all but still).

So what now? Are we going to commit genocide?
If we see a sylvari with glowing eyes, are we going to murder that poor soul, just because he is with the dragon now?

I don’t see some of my character willing to kill sylvari, just because they turned (unless in case of self-defense where they didn’t manage to neutralize them without taking their life).

They proved to have good and wrong sides. They are just like us. They didn’t ask to be Dragon minions. They were ready to fight along our sides. And we clearly can’t make so many prisoners as there are sylvari…

On an another note:
My sylvari turned. I mean, roleplay wise, I will make him turn. And I would hope, if he turns, that my friends won’t turn on me and try to make him gain free will again. But is it even possible? It seems that the ritual used on Glint (or even on the pale tree if it is the same thing) is not known by many.

What are your thoughts?

12 years to kill the last dragon?

in Lore

Phineas Drayke.6381

Ef we players actualy get to fight these dragons, I can imagine it being in some kind of expansion linking to the other continents. Hell, Primordus’ current domain, the Depths of Tyria, spread all over the world if Eye of the North was to be believed.

But what I mean is even further than Cantha. Elona is actually on the same continent than Tyria. But if you look at the world map, we are in a rather small part of it (Counting Tyria, Cantha and Elona).

But exploring the Depths of Tyria would be awesome to. I actually loved it during GWEN.

Problem I see with more than one dragon per expansion: it would be a rather BIG expansion. The dephts for primordus, the far shiverpeaks for Jormag, Crystal Desert and maybe further south Elona for Krakalltorik are vast regions. To make two of them in one expansion would require a lot of effort and time.

And although I think it would be easy to get rid of one dragon by leaving the gods or the canthan people take care of it, I think many would be disappointed. I know I would. But than again, so much other interesting lore to develop…

This isn’t really a lore topic, is it?

I actually posted this topic in the “General discussion” forum, but it was moved here by moderation.

I agree.
There is to much dragon lore involved right now. Jormag and Krakalltorik can’t be just put at rest with no lore developed around them. Same goes for Primordus as he already influenced GW1.
The situation is different for the DSD as he could be dismissed by saying the Canthan people took care of it (and in the same time that would “explain” why we have no interest to go there…). I’m sure Cantha has his very own personal Trahearne taking care of everything…

@lordkrall
I’d love to fight more dragons at once. Or maybe, make them kill each other and have popcorn watching the fight

Hi all,

I was wondering, now that we know we’ll be fighting our next main antagonist in the upcoming expansion or living story arc or whatever will be announced next week, how many years will it take to go through all the dragons?

If by august 2015 we managed to kill mordremoth (personal wishful thinking), can we say that we’ll have to wait another 12 years to slay the last one? I just don’t see gw2 last so long as much as I love Tyria.

Are you more optimistic? Less? Will Anet speed things a bit up? Another GW sequel to kill the last dragons?

2012 Zhaitan
2015 Mordremoth
2018 Jormag
2021 Krak
2024 Stevie
2027 Primordius

(random order of course, just to visualize the dates)

I do not participate a lot in forum discussions, but I read a lot of them, especially here in the lore forums. But this one piqued my interest.
Also, I apologize in advance for mistakes or bad formulations. English is not but my motherlanguage, not even my second language…

So, after reading up on this subject, I just wanted to maybe add my brick to it.

I also noticed those eagle motives. And now that you bring them in perspective with other lore, it remembered me of the eagle in real life mythologies. There could be hints. So nothing new, but perhaps it can help you in your investigations.

The eagle is known to be a messenger of the gods in many cultures. But in American Indians (sorry if it’s not the right formulation…) culture, the eagle is the one to take the spirits of the dead shamans in the invisible realm of the ancients. You find equivalent beliefs in Asian, Syrian and Roman cultures. This remembered me of the mists and the link between mists and Forgotten.

But then, in Christian culture, the eagle represents many aspects. Wisdom, but sometimes also misfortune. But its also depicted as beeing the natural predator of serpents, because they attack them from the heights. This could be nothing, or like I said before a hint. You tried to link the eagle with the Forgotten, perhaps the eagle is some entity the forgotten respected/feared. Perhaps, it just depicts the Gods (wisdom, power, … ) and their superiority over the Forgotten.

You find some equivalent also in celtic cultures, where the eagle is believed to be one of the 5 Anciens of the world. Here too, the eagle’s counterpart is the snake.

In very ancient scandinavian mythologiy, the eagle is the protector of Yggdrasil and represents life and is in opposition to the dragon, who represents dead.

I don’t know if anything could be related, I’m just throwing some ideas here

Nice topic, keep it up ^^

9th Profession Theme ideas?

Posted by: Phineas Drayke.6381

Phineas Drayke.6381

This is an idea I’ve posted a year ago on the french forums, I never had the patience to translate it here. So my idea was basically to have a “cultural class”.

This doesn’t mean 5 classes, but same basic gameplay with different names, animations, lore, weapons and skins based on the race you chose. I’ll give a short example to explain the idea.

Norn: Shaman
Human: Dervish
Sylvari: Druid
Charr: Machinist
Asura: Golemancer

5 classes, same basic gameplay, adapted to each race.

Shaman:
Possibility to change between human form and 2 of 6 other forms (half-norn, half-animal, like seen in some very old artworks) by using the F1, F2 and F3 buttons.

The half-norn, half-animal transformation, keep part of your visible armor. Weapons stay in your hands.
The weapon skills are adapted to the chosen form.

The forms could be the ones we already have (but with armor on them) plus boar (also seen on some old artwork) and something else like eagle, or deer.

Weapons (no weapon switch):
Axe
Mace (main/off)
Dagger (main/off)
Staff
Longbow
Trident
Scythe (new weapon)

Dervish:
Possibility to change between human form and 2 of 6 other forms (half-human, half-avatar) by using the F1, F2 and F3 buttons.

The half-human, half-avatar transformation, keep part of your visible armor. Weapons stay in your hands.
The weapon skills are adapted to the chosen form.

The forms could be the ones of the 6 human god (baltha, kormir, lyssa, melandru, grenth, dwayna)

Weapons:
Greatsword
Dagger
Pistols(main/off)
Torches (main/off)
Lance
Scythe (new weapon)

Druid:
Possibility to change between sylvari form and 2 of 6 other forms by using the F1, F2 and F3 buttons.

The forms keep part of the visible armor, weapons stay equipped (visible).
The weapon skills are adapted to the chosen form.

Forms could be druids (the big living trees we have ingame) of different seasons and forms like the Husks.

Weapons:
Mace (main/off)
Scepter (main/off)
Torch
Staff
Short Bow
Trident
Warhorn

Machinist:
Possibility to change between charr form and 2 of 6 other forms by using the F1, F2 and F3 buttons.

You see your charr on the vehicles you “transformed” in.
The weapon skills are adapted to the chosen form.

The forms could be the war machines of the charr, like little tanks, exoskeletons or other specific vehicles (like the char bikes seen in the Citadel).

Weapons:
Hammer
Rifle
Pistol
Mace (main/off)
Torch (main/off)
Harpoon Gun

Golemancer:
Possibility to change between asura form and 2 of 6 other forms by using the F1, F2 and F3 buttons.

You see your asura on the golems you “transformed” in.
The weapon skills are adapted to the chosen form.

Weapons:
Stuff
Scepter (main/off)
Focus
Mace (main/off)
Rifle
Pistol
Trident

That’s it for the basic idea. Didn’t develop much into traits, or utilities for now.

This enables us to have classes respecting their lore (It would be weird to see dervish charr summoning melandru… )

The Third Clue; Sohothin. both Magdaer AND Sohothin where forged before the Exodus of the gods, which means that its highly likely that 1 or more gods had a hand in creating them, but only 1 god seems to like both fire and weapons. Balthazar.

So from what we know of the sword and lore, its entirely possible that the portal Rytlock entered as he chased his magic sword lead to either the hall of heroes, or even more likely, the Fissure of Woe, Balthazar’s own realm. and if he met with the human god himself that would explain why he has fire coming from his eyes.

Little question about this part: Where do we see Rytlock coming back with fire in his eyes? I didn’t see him come back… Did I miss something here?

Hi,

I’m not very active on the forums but I follow many discussions, especially about the lore.

But there is one thing I didn’t come across on the forums yet, but I’m asking myself a question since I saw this:

As most know since this map we’ve seen in the OoW HQ, the world of Tyria seems to be very large an we know only very small parts of it. So I’m wondering:

Why did most dragons appear more or less in the same zone, the zone gw2 is all about for now. It seems 5 dragons are in the same zone (Jormag north of he shiverpeaks, Krakaltorrik east and now south, arround the crystal desert, primordius underground, but still arround kryta, mordremoth west in the jungle, Zhaitan was south near Orr)and one, the DSD iseven more south, near cantha if I’m not mistaken.

But whatabout the rest of the world, is there no magic that the dragons don’t need to go there.
Or is there enough magic in this part of the world to feed them all?
Or are there other unknown dragons in those parts of the world?

I’ll stop just with these questions, I have so many others. But perhaps some of you folks can enlighten me.

Thanks and sorry for mistakes or badly turned expressions, english is not my native language.

Hi,

I don’t know how people feel about killing Zhaitan but not seeing an end at his corruption, but some friends and myself think that after a year, things would probably start to change.

So here is an idea how this could be handled. After defeating Zhaitan, why not implement an instanced system like the first missions of the game. You come in and start to do event chains that consist of cleansing Orr. You would start at fort Trinity and work your way down to Arah. And every DE that succeeds, creates an new instance for that zone and all players who have participated in the cleansing. Some sort of phasing. Once you have done this too all the 3 maps, you have a new Orr, full of new events, cleansed from the corruption of Zhaitan.

BUT: To prevent a seggregation of players that have defeated Zayzay and those that haven’t, it would suffise to add NPC’s at the entrances of the zones who give you the option to enter a ’historical version" of Orr. This zones would be the same zones we have now.

And to make both zones attractive, the historical zones still contain the temple events and vendors, the nodes of orichalc, etc. But the new zones contain new DEs, new vendors, perhaps just apperance vendors and new nodes or crafting mats that were added recently. So both zones still attract.

My 2 cent suggestion to improve the living aspect of the “Living World”.
