There is no such thing as balance. Even more true when the dev is Anet.
I don’t get why ppl is still complaining. Where have you been for the past 5 years?
The problem in this game is the synergy mechanic benefits and pushes you into melee to the point it’s lopsided in comparison to range. There are no range equivalent for Warrior’s Phalanx Strength, Chrono’s Alacrity or Herald’s perma buffs which are all optimized for melee combat.
You can’t really blame the community for angling towards optimization, in this case melee. Same reason you can’t blame the community for preferring zerk for the first 3 years when condi mechanic was just plain broken.
The game is what it is because of design decisions and choices made by Anet.
If you felt, like OP, always ending up in melee range for max damage, it’s by design.
This game is originally designed with pvp conquest 5v5 in mind. Even boon sharing is focused on 5 allies target in close proximity.
Anet dislikes range from the get go day1. Majority of range weapons alone are kitten with either scaled or poor damages.
You just have to deal with it or move on. I highly doubt anything is going to change anytime soon.

Why do you think most ppl just take shortcut when it comes to jp? whether it’s for dailies or chivos. Yes, your thread title is spot on.
Hey look, mesmer’s portal …. click click.

WP rarely criticized GW2 to the point he just got it awkwardly incorrect right out of the gate. The first thing he mentioned was build template. Things like build template and gui update, for instance, are not missing features fail to be delivered on an xpac like PoF. They are QoL updates that the community requested for the game as a whole, not exclusive to PoF. There are good points being made in the video though.
He couldn’t even get the title right. It’s not “fail to deliver” per se, the content of his video for this one is more of inline with “missed opportunities to introduce xxx”.
I personally don’t get the hype of this PoF xpac’s mounts. Mounts and maps being designed to coexist with each other is not a new thing in mmorpg genre. A Springer can jump to high places exclusive for the mount in PoF map is as good as a feature a flying mount being needed to access area in the sky that only it can reach. It’s absurd ppl jumping up and down calling this “new” things, never been done before. Weird.
(edited by Pino.5209)
Visual clutter has always been a problem in this game from day 1. In combat, it literally can cause sensory overload.
It’s 2017, if you’ve been playing for the better part of 5 years, it’s pretty much “c’est la vie” in this game. It’s not like most of us didn’t see it coming down this road.
QoL update for removing visual noise would be nice (for example, remove all players’ skills animation on bosses, so we can tell what the heck the boss is doing). Hey, we are still waiting for build/equipment template save feature, Mystic Forge with less clicking, modifiable GUI (it gets tiring looking at same GUI for 5 years), etc. So, such option to remove visual noise should probably get behind the line.
Anet be like: “We’ll get on your QoL update requests by 2050, do not worry”.

Why is this still an issue?
-Designate 1 day@weekend and sacrifice it to God of Nerd
-Put on boosters
-Find commander
-Follow and mow down everything
-Gift of Battle in 4-5hours, 6 hours at worst.
-If you can’t do it in 1 day then sacrifice 2 days to God of Nerd instead. 3 hours each day tops.
OP suggestions are to segregate contents even more and put them behind paywall. The overall problem with that is it also segregate the community even further, which is not a good idea.
F2P Age of Conan had vaguely similar idea; chopping up contents and put a price tag on everything. It was horrendous. Well, to be fair the game was a kitten in the first place.
OP should apply for a job @ EA. Guaranteed 100% welcome aboard.
(edited by Pino.5209)
… The people i talked too from Arenanet, just lifted their shoulders (in a way of speaking), when talking about this issue. Not cool. So my estimate is, at PoF launch, there will be no checkbox to make mounts less motion sick causing.
That is practically a slap in the face for ppl with this issue, if it was true Anet’s employee responded like that. However be positive and look at the bright side, those affected will have a good reason to ask for refund and move on. Those who haven’t spent can just turn away for good, I supposed. It’s not the end of the world.
Transmutation charges are account bound.
All you need is 1 free character slot. Create new toon, complete Rata Sum quickly, get transmutation charge and delete the toon. Rinse and repeat.
Unless, they have axed this method. If not, they probably will sometime in the future, just like how they nerf 1st BL key reward from story.
Soulbeast has been a disappointment. Overall 2 demos have been rather disappointing for me. So I haven’t thrown any money at PoF yet.
Over the course of 4 years i’ve been playing on and off. I was spending $$$ in regular manner in cash shops whenever i was on long stretch playing. I have probably accumulated thousands worth over the years. I stopped spending recently, completely.
I know $30 is not a lot of money. However, for me, that initial $30 would have been a flood gate on whether i will continue playing and spending on the game.
The end of the road is near, I’m guessing. I’ve been playing less and less. HoT disappointment did a lot of damage on me.
(edited by Pino.5209)
Oh Yes, don’t forget to reduce the clickfest Mystic Forge. Oh God … my index finger is in pain …
It looks horrid, the aura is way too much.
Suggestion …
Get rid of the circling twisty thorn animation (too much polution).
Green aura and leaf petals animation tone down by roughly 20%-40% in size and speed.
I remembered back when i played Rift, it had commands you could type in chat that do the job. It wasn’t perfect, as the matter of fact it was far from perfect, but it was a life saver.
To think after close to 5 years, we don’t even have this feature in GW2 is an abomination imo.
This is one of those QoL update that should have been seriously looked into and considered.
Horrendous Elite Spec. Imo, the idea of getting rid of pets (aka merge) isn’t a great idea to begin with. It’s their cheap attempt to get around fixing AI issues and lack of pets control in this game. Everything is underwhelming from slow dagger, buggy, traits to stances.
What is the point of rolling a ranger if you didn’t want pets? Anet buckled to QQers in getting rid of pets.
When i told ppl on /map (few weeks back) deadeye’s kneeling mechanic looks clunky and rifle is going to be underwhelming, ppl was dismissive. It turns out to be true.
Majority of the professions’ subforum seem displeased. This is far worse than HoT elite spec, it seems.
Not letting us try this elite specs @ normal pve setting is a pure mistake imo.
Mind you, this is supposedly “Demo” preview, not “Beta” where normally game devs still actually looking for inputs. So they probably consider this pretty much done and only need minor adjustment. Not to mention release date is very close.
Not Impressive …

Read every words of this 1st post. He isn’t exactly seriously asking for help. The main theme is asking for NERF. The bolded part was actually rather rhetoric with a hint of sarcasm. That line was the closest to a request for help. Do yourself a favor and read for once.
When i read it i see someone in need of advise. It peaks my interest because i also struggled with it.
When you read it you see an attack on your precious game… (and even then your response is over the top and rude)
The sad thing here is that all you seem to have to fall back on is screaming “White Knight.. White Knight” (like it is a bad thing), while all i do is ask for some common decency… extremely common i might add. If you would be treated like poop by someone standing next to you, i wonder what your reaction would be like.
I know its commonly accepted that the internet is like this… but it IS like this BECAUSE it is commonly accepted.
Its not about what the OP asked or not asked … its about your failure to see you were rude and are convinced it’s okay to be like that.
I’m not a millennial with edgy personality that sees everything as sunshine and flower like you.
How one communicate described one intent. OP intent was not requesting help per se, rather criticism and request for Nerf. The guy is literally those gamer who “if I can’t beat it, whine at forum for Nerf”. It’s cancerous behavior in gaming community.
You seeing OP’s whine as sunshine and flower defending it, is literally enabling this kind of behavior. A line has to be drawn on what is an acceptable manner, even in online forum.
Yes, there is absolutely nothing wrong with white knighting on an appropriate subject, for that I agree with you. Not this time around regarding OP’s request though.
“Git GuD” might have been venomous but they way OP asked for help was extremely rude and crude. OP was first and foremost blaming the Devs, read the title and the 1st post, if you could be bothered.
Oh please. It is NOT “might have been.” It WAS venomous, but that’s normal nowadays. Your post was anything BUT helpful or productive. It’s the same crap as “anything works in OPvE”. While it’s “factually” correct, it’s NOT helping the person asking for assistance. So, either post something useful (l2kite/play/gearup doesn’t count), or simply don’t post and laugh silently for how l33t you are.
Since OP was self proclaimed Fractal Vet. Kite/GiT GuD is actually literally a good answer. If OP wanted a productive answer, he or she can start by at least being honest.
I can totally ace one encounter and be completely stumped by another. It says nothing.
Nothing warrants beeing verbally abused and rediculed on the very forum that is there to discuss such things.
You keep coming up with excuses… admit you were beeing rude and be done with it.
Maybe even apologize to OP… you know its the right thing to do. I ’m sure you were taught good manners once
Hilarious, white knighting to the extreme. Apologize? Hell NO.
How the bloody 4377 do you think one solo character with exotic armor only can defeat a boss and 20 adds? Are you kidding me. That’s the same problem I had with HOT. I solo this game. None of my friends play anymore. So I’m supposed to go into story mode with NPCs that die instantly and fight my way through and then go further in with no NPC helpers at all? Tune it down and up the rewards or most will never do the story modes at all. And where’s the dragon hunter’s bow.
I bought Path of Fire because of the open world. I doubt very much based on this that I will do the story mode at all.
And before you all criticize, I have a high level dragon hunter that does high level fractals. In fact, every one of my characters is level 80, medium to high level fractals. Solo story mode in these expansions is a pain in the kitten terrible rewards and dying every 2 minutes because you are one again 20 adds and a boss is ridiculous.
So I’m asking the devs to tune it down on the story mode content. Some of us don’t have a merry band of four/five that we can take into story mode.
Read every words of this 1st post. He isn’t exactly seriously asking for help. The main theme is asking for NERF. The bolded part is actually rather rhetoric with a hint of sarcasm. That line is the closest to a request for help. Do yourself a favor and read for once.
Resorting to personal attack on my manners, hilarious. I was brought up to be polite to polite honest people. Unlike you who seems to be brought up to defend a whiner and liar.
(edited by Pino.5209)
Are people having a laugh? That was as easy instance as they come!
Come now, don’t be mean. I know people that took a few tries to get through those enemies. It comes down to how well you know the game…which often comes down to how much you’ve had a chance to play. It’s not cool to belittle someone having trouble.
Belittling isn’t even remotely the problem. OP was asking for nerf from Dev while crying out for help at the same time and claiming to be a fractal vet to make a point as for the legitimacy of the request.
(edited by Pino.5209)
Never mind, should have figured you’d all spread that Git Gud crap. A solo player can’t kill a dragon even in exotic armor with pitiful weapons. I’ve tried a warrior, a guardian, a necromancer and all couldn’t get through the second part of story mode with I counted 10 after me and the boss and something shooting fireballs.
Plus I was talking to the devs, not you.
Hilarious, a veteran player that got killed in that scenario with a necromancer. You are obviously lying to the teeth.
So far you have insulted OP twice for posting a problem he/she has with an encounter.
Don’t you think it would be more constructive to analyse the problem and come up with a good advise instead of “git gud” and flat out calling liar?
People that also struggle with content like that could also benefit from that, because im sure there are a lot more.
We weren’t all born with ‘mad skillz’ and some of us even have IRL nasties holding them back.
Maybe a tad more empathy? …. please?
I have empathy, look at my responses on the thread that discuss about motion sickness.
Why should anyone have empathy towards someone who was obviously lying to the teeth of being veteran in the game?
If he were to come out and asked for help on how to defeat it with whatever profession. I would gladly give a proper advice.
The guy is literally asking for a nerf from devs on a non issue encounter while lying to his teeth about being fractal vet. This is exactly the kind of people who deserves “GIT GUD” answer.Nobody deserves your venom and i’m sure you are just as unable to see through a few lines of typed words as anyone else.
Also no dev is gonna change a game because one person has a problem that needs solving. Get a grip.
And i’m not going to another thread to witness a sample of your good intentions on an entirely different matter. This is about the vitriol you spilled in this thread.
My response is to your unconstructive and insulting behavior and my request is that you discuss with OP and see if your obvious knowhow can maybe solve his problem.
In a friendly manner and perhaps in a way that could even benefit the rest of us.
Or is that too much to ask? We are all playing/loving the same game here… right?
Let’s face it. It’s not even worthy of your time to discuss it with OP. Instead, you shined upon me with your blinding white knight self-righteousness. Get a grip yourself.
I’m just as curious to get some good tips as OP is. I came out the other end by the skin of my teeth myself and would love to repeat with more inside tips from some more experienced players.
Isn’t that what a forum is for after all?
Lets face it, by now you could have typed quite the essay on how to ace this thing and you could have earned some respect from at least two people.
Shame…. :/
I actually kind of expanded upon my “Git GuD” inital comment on the next post after that, which can be summed up to “Kite” like many others literally said in this thread.
What have you done so far in this thread? with the exception of white knighting and not saying anything towards OP problem. Hypocrisy is strong in you.
“Git GuD” might have been venomous but they way OP asked for help was extremely rude and crude. OP was first and foremost blaming the Devs, read the title and the 1st post, if you could be bothered.

I also have motion sickness with the mounts. I could only play for a little over 45 minutes then I had to log out. Very unpleasant experience. I am actually regretting purchasing this expansion as I do not think I am going to be able to even play it like this. :-(
The reception of HoT was not good in general. Gamers need to stop throwing money at hype.
I haven’t throw my money at PoF too, still wait and see status.
After a disaster mess of Battlefield 4, I stopped preordering Battlefield series and playing all together.
There are times I visit youtuber like Levelcapgaming just to see what the series look like these days. It literally is not a FPS anymore, but rather FPEC (First Person Explosive Chuckers). I’m glad i stopped throwing money at the series.
(edited by Pino.5209)
It’s best to hold off forking out money for the expansion to those who have this problem. Mounts play a major part in the new maps exploration and travelling. We didn’t even get to play the other mounts in the demo, mind you. So, we won’t know the extend of the issue with other mounts, if there is any.
It is obvious they either:
- there weren’t enough extensive test during beta to reveal such issue,
- the beta didn’t include such people with this motion sickness issue,
- or the beta participants are bunch of “Yes” people (/looking at all those youtubers)
There are no guarantee the issue can be or will be resolved completely for everyone and there could be more than 1 trigger points that cause the issue.
Just hold on to your money and wait for their official response/fix, preferably within 1
week time frame for the next demo.
(edited by Pino.5209)
I hope not, they are already smaller compared to other races.
A max height asura’s mount is bigger than my min height female human’s mount. It’s awkward as hell.
From that pic, your asura doesn’t seem to be tall.
It seems they scale the mount based on height slider on character creation.
ok this is new. virtual motion sickness is an thing? not trying to be mean here but i’m genuinely surprised here.
It is. It’s not a new thing either. You can get motion sickness in FPS games too, for instance. If you fail to configure your FoV to suit your eyes, it can happen in fps games.
I’ve had it in some Battlefield series. The most recent one was Alien: Isolation for me. Tingling with FoV solved the problem though.
With the recent release of VR devices, the problem seems to become more apparent than ever.
It’s not an issue that should be taken lightly if the application of mounts in this game can cause motion sickness.
Just played the introductory mission and…kitten . Why, just why, did anet think to give us fire extinguishers would be fun? What do you think new players are going to think? A comically large gun that has 1 skill that lazily puts out a fire? Followed by rezzing kittening NPC’s? All in the first mission? A simply terrible introduction.
I explored the new map a little and it feels pretty empty, and the mobs hardly seem threatening. It was just too easy, and I even made a class I don’t regularly play for the beta. Compared to the HoT intro, and VB, extremely underwhelming.
+1
This is exactly how I felt when i tried the demo.
The demo map seems to consist 2/3 of the that map. Unless I’m seeing it wrong or there is more curvature to the map.
If it’s by design, leaving the East side rather barren for demo than it’s good. Meaning it will fills up on release. If it’s supposed to be like that then it’s rather boring.
Other than the overall demo map impression, there are a few criticisms I want to put forward regarding the mount itself.
- The raptor 1 skill doesn’t feel great. It’kitten and miss when you are charging into a group of mobs. It’s probably latency related.
- CC or damage from hostile NPCs should cause dismount. Otherwise, having these ground mounts will literally might as well be flying mounts, causing contents to be skipped/ignored even more. Hostile NPCs should have the opportunity to draw your attention to actually kill them.
- Dismount animation when pressing X feels bit clunky. Jump upward. Especially when you are charging into combat and rather pressing X instead of 1. This is probably a non issue.
- Falling from extreme height mounted will only dismount you. It’s not good because it bypass the ‘extreme height drop-splat-death’ mechanic. It feels like cheating death. This will be a problem if they allowed mounts to be used @ wvw. A potential fix to this is to allow dismount midair so player will have the opportunity to pull out their glider. And again since HoT is not required for PoF, it would be unfair for PoF only player to fall to their death.
Best solution is probably mounted extreme height fall = death.
- Scaling is awful and awkward.
I’m glad i haven’t forked out any money for this expansion. The demo is seriously underwhelming. It’s even far less impressive than HoT’s VB.
Funny we don’t hear any of these from youtubers that tried them already. It’s always sunshine and flower for all of them I supposed. They all seems to sing in harmony of hype train.
(edited by Pino.5209)
The way I interpret the explanation of the presentation is, to my understanding, PoF is an expansion of HoT. In essence, PoF is an extension of HoT rather than the Vanilla GW2 original design (manifesto).
So, contents in PoF will be Masteries and Collections centric like HoT. There will still be form of verticality on maps, though less. Indeed, professions’ build will be heavily centralized on the PoF elite specs with an obvious advantage over everything that precede them.
So in core PoF will be basically the same with HoT with less chaotic stupid maps and mounts.
I personally don’t think we can judge it with preview. Anet is not going to put the bad side of PoF in preview, if there is any at all. Remember, HoT preview was Verdant Brink which was one of the better map in HoT and lots us of got sucked in only to be disappointed.
My advice is, if you hated HoT a lot, best wait for reviews a month or two into the PoF expansion before deciding to buy or not. Don’t rely heavily on Woodenpotatoes’ words, he can be rather a suck up to Anet at times.

Hey, I’m just glad they held off for 5 years before adding them.
Not that I hate the idea, but I think people need new things added and mounts are just a bonus. The END IS NEAR if they add unique mounts to the BLTC (I mean totally unique, not just offering a skin to make your rabbit pink instead of red.)
Lol if you think they won’t monetize mounts you’re delusional.
But they didn’t monetize glider … oh wait, nvm. lol …
From the way they presented the xpac on trailer, mounts are the key selling point for them. It’s the new thing that will rack up $$$ for the next few years. And?
Have people become so disillusioned with their own sense of what should be and should not be that they blanked out on the fact that ANet is a company and needs money? That if you really wanted x mount from the BLTC, you could get it without spending your real money? Jesus, the players in this game have it absurdly good but it really feels like they need a reality check sometimes.
I’m not against mounts, though it’s a bit disappointing it heads this way. Ah, those days when WP system was superior argument from Anet.
Everyone knows you can buy stuffs with ingame gold. However, the way the economy works in this game tends to drive players to spend rl money, especially new players.
Lots of veterans already piled up lots of gold. So, Anet’s real target isn’t really them anymore. Cashflow is important. If everyone bought BLTC items using ingame gold, Anet will probably run out of money in long term.
After the disappointment of HoT xpac, I’d be more reserved on deciding to buy or not this time around. Mounts won’t be a feature that tip me over.
I want to see how the new map feels and elite specs.
Soulbeast and Deadeye look underwhelming for me so far … sighs.
Looking forward to the preview.

http://www.pcgamer.com/everything-you-need-to-know-about-guild-wars-2-path-of-fire/
Check out this article if you haven’t yet, it’s got some sweet details about mounts and the expansion in general.
This is a ‘content’ expansion
Heart of Thorns was, according to ArenaNet, a feature expansion. While it added new zones, its main purpose was to restructure the game’s systems to support future expansions. But its price was a big ask for what was, compared to many MMO expansions, a relatively slim amount of new things to do. And while Heart of Thorns is now a much larger offering thanks to the new maps added in the latest season of the Living World story, Path of Fire is being billed as a content expansion. It follows the basic template set by HoT, and simply adds more stuff. While five new zones may not sound like a huge increase, ArenaNet says that, in total, they’ll be larger than the combined area of both Heart of Thorns and the six Season Three maps.
The bolded part worries me. HoT is not a great expansion to be used as template.
They are never adding a new class to the game again people. Get over this idea already.
They did add Rev on last xpac. Race probably is much more of problem for them cuz of the whole wardrobe takes time thing.
- New class.
- New race.
- Revamp crafting to make it more engaging and profitable. May be add fishing for gathering?
-Housing.
-New Revamp UI to make it more flexible, more of QoL update.
-Revamp Traits system.
-New Dungeons/Fractals.
-Revamp water combat and perhaps introduce naval combat.
I’m expecting too much, I’m guessing.
No. What I was referring to was the “give-up” attitude you seem to have. “That’s how it is so that’s how it will stay”.
Also, no sure about others but I still spend about $20 every month. Been playing on and off since beta. Whenever I come back to the game I always drop a lot of cash.
It’s not “give up”. It’s called being realistic.
Seriously, not expecting Oceanic server from a 4 years old game. Even with expansion releases, player base can’t be bigger than it was on release date, not to mention paying one (gemstore).
I’m sorry to tell you this, you spending $20 a month is not really a reflection of the amount of ppl actually spending rl money.
(edited by Pino.5209)
It’s not going to happen with GW2. That ship has sailed long ago.
Jesus!! We would still be in the stone ages if everyone thought like that!
Ha, that’s not a correct logic. By “that ship has sailed long ago”, if you didn’t understand. I meant, if Anet wanted an Oceanic server, it would have been on the initial release where they can actually maximize profits.
Box sales is one thing, GW2 needs constant gemstore revenue. How many of us here are actually spending money on gemstore regularly these days?
When was the last time retailers carry GW2 gemcard here? i can’t remember.
No one was bragging. That’s just your own insecurities. Not sure why you would want to fight Oceanic servers though. If they helped you then good… they help you. If they don’t help you… don’t kittening play on them.
Not insecurites. We don’t have a good track record when it comes to having local dedicated server for mmorpg games GW2 alike … SWTOR and Warhammer Online local servers did close down.
POE, Overwatch etc are different animals/games.
It’s not going to happen with GW2. That ship has sailed long ago.
What’s with all the people saying that Oceanic doesn’t have enough players? How the hell do you know? Oceania has 25 countries in it with a combined population of 39,771,060. I’m sure there is enough players in that group to justify it. Server tech is also not expensive anymore.
I mean kitten , PoE has Aus servers…
Just came back to the game and I am sitting on 225 (NZ). Used to play ranged and it wasn’t so bad, but I wanted to start fresh this time around so i made a Thief and boosted it up to 50. Now the latency is incredibly noticeable. Been playing fora few days on the new character now and it sucks. It really really sucks. I am hoping I will get used to it but it’s gonna be a long road.
I can see why people sitting around 300+ just wont play the game.
Top 3 oceanic countries by populations are Australia, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand.
The 2nd biggest population country Papua New Guinea is ranked 139 per population when it comes to internet uptake.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_number_of_Internet_users
That list is including mobile internet users.
Australia and NZ are 33 and 88, respectively. They combined for roughly 25 millions internet users (including mobile users). Those with good and stable internet to play GW2 is really far smaller than that rough 25 millions figure, not to mention the actual amount of ppl acutally playing GW2 from those 2 countries.
Seriously, what do you think Oceanic countries are? http://ontheworldmap.com/oceania/map-of-oceania-with-countries-and-capitals.jpg
Most of those 25 countries are tiny islands. Point being, 25 countries and 39.7 millions total populations are nothing to brag about.
Beside Australia and New Zealand, internet on the rest of Oceanic countries are literally bleh.
Putting a server somewhere at SEA (South East Asia), for instance Singapore, makes more sense than putting one in Oceania/Australia.
(edited by Pino.5209)
http://oceanicgamer.com/2013/03/oceanic-players-lose-local-swtor-servers/
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/warhammer-online-closing-63-servers
Last 2 games that i can remember that have local oceanic server.
24.6 millions population, a country associated with subpar broadband/internet and pathetic implementation of NBN.
Bottom line, not worth investing in. There aren’t many oceanic players around anymore these days to warrant a local dedicated server.
And any future mmorpg should not ever consider to open a dedicated server here too. It’s not worth while given the history and the size of the market.
The simple answer is neither.
Legendary Minis. With god like, pew pew, animations.
No, I totally get the point of legendary items. I don’t get the point of introducing new tier of gear once you have covered all slots in legendary. Heck, even without the trinkets I still see no point. The very people that new tier is supposed to keep busy will already effectively have it. It’s pointless.
You keep saying it’s pointless. However, that was exactly how Anet operated (with legendary weapons) and probably will be if vertical gears progression is to be introduced in the future.
Legendary gears players, especially armors, are raiders. They will obviously have new form of carrots and fights for them to play. May be new legendary skins that can be only applied to legendary armors as raid reward, for example.
We have 2nd generation legendary weapons, the idea of 2nd gen legendary armors would not be too absurd in the far future. (another example)
You can always invent new carrots.
(edited by Pino.5209)
Your ‘alternative’ will be very likely the case here for legendary gears. So the very notion of legendary gears owners’ outcry is out of the window.
Remember the jump from exotic to ascended stats for legendary weapons? Yes, it will happen this way if they released next tier. But then, where’s the point? When it’s only weapons, invested players have a goal to work on – upgrade their armor and trinkets. The more legendary items you can have, the less of a goal they’d have. In a scenario where all your gear is legendary, you’d just get a powercreep without even noticing. Zero effort required, zero goals, zero meaning.
The point being Legendaries gears is the ultimate endgame items. It will always be like that. That was the reason they changed the stats from exotic to ascended back then (weapons). The message is the massive grind you did for them is the definition of endgame items grind/process. And this will never change.
Like i said, it has been done before on smaller scale. You can’t compare the effort required to get an ascended and legendaries to begin with. The massive gap alone covers the justification for stat change. That is the way Anet sees it, I believed.
There was a time Anet was against Raid, Holy Trinity, Mounts, …
You can fill in the rest of the dots. It doesn’t take much to see the pattern on where GW2 is heading to.

Trying to believe there will be no better gears after ascended is like trying to believe exotic was the ceiling back then.
I expect once they are done with legendary amulets, rings and accessory, the next tier gears will be coming. Next xpac will be very likely associated with legendary trinkets.
New tier gears should be on 3rd xpac.We are already on wow-esque road with raid (trinity) and mounts (next xpac). So, expecting a vertical gear progression is not too far fetch imo.
I disagree. Consider the outcry of all the owners of a legendary item. These are huge time/gold/effort sinks. You certainly do not want to see the product of all this outdated.
Alternatively, you could “retroactively” update all existing legendaries to higher stats. But that just defeats the purpose of having a next tier of gear, as the invested players who this gear treadmill would be aimed at are mostly the same ones holding legendary items.
So no, chances are pretty low. Not in this game. More legendaries, certainly. More fashion. But nothing that challenges fashion’s power level.
Your ‘alternative’ will be very likely the case here for legendary gears. So the very notion of legendary gears owners’ outcry is out of the window.
Remember the jump from exotic to ascended stats for legendary weapons? Yes, it will happen this way if they released next tier.
I’m guessing you weren’t around when they introduced ascended and changed legendary weapons’ stats from exotic to ascended back then. The ‘alternative’ you mentioned isn’t exactly an alternative, it has been done before.
We are heading wow-esque route. It is very likely. We have player base still throwing tantrum about manifesto. It has gone and left us long time ago.

Any back stowed items (shields, backpacks) have a huge gap on Perfected Envoy Vestments.
I took 2 screens comparing Perfected Vestments and Refined Vestments for reference:
Welcome to life of every Asura … where majority backpack just “float”. I guess they will fix this, the love for human meta is surreal in this game.

It’s an easy answer … Predator.
Predator and dual wield H.O.P.E
Pew pew pew.
There is only one Legendary “Rifle” in game, it is Predator.
HMS Divinity isn’t a rifle. It’s a “Boat” that happened to be shaped like a rifle canon.
It’s not even a competition in terms of their look.
Predator wins by far margin.

Medium Legendary armor is one of the ugliest sets they ever made.
That’s an understatement, probably. I’ve been playing mmorpg for close to a decade. That medium is the ugliest end game armor i’ve ever seen.
Just saw the leaked animations for every races and genders.
Horror show.
The medium armor is basically the biggest loser here, animation and look wise. I was right, there isn’t going to be a salvation for trench coat. I feel sorry for all the medium armor raiders.
The light armor looks decent.
They shouldn’t have given the headpiece a mask that cover half the face, it doesn’t fit light armor professions style. Not even ele. It’s a thief thing.
The butt cape animation is horrid.
It doesn’t look good on lot’s of races, except human. Norn, Charr and Sylvari looks horrendous with it.
I don’t like the chest pattern, how it make a X cross, looks cheap.
Heavy armor is the winner here. Especially with the animation on the background when getting into combat.
The design itself basically is too busy and messy. The chest looks horrendous on character that is slim and small, way too messy.
The animation is rather tacky, but I can understand ppl that likes it. Hey, after all, there are ppl actually pays money to watch Michael Bay’s Transformers.
Overall, if you combine everything: looks, animation and style, I give it a D-. Horrible results considering it took years.

The only proof i need to give you is this.
Raids do not fit with GW2 manifest and putting more behind a raid wall is putting more sins on GW2 and anet.
You’re linking a video from over 6 years ago. Most of the people talking in it don’t even work there anymore. Also, try toning down the hyperbole… “Sin?” It’s a video game.
It matters a lot for a lot of players.
I was there from the beginning. I don’t think it matters anymore.
If you have been around gaming long enough, you should have started to notice that manifesto was nothing more than a marketing smear to get you to open up your wallet.
Mmorpg evolves all the time. Though i have to admit GW2 is actually regressing rather than progressing. It is their game and they can do whatever they wanted it to be, unless upon purchase there was an agreement that the game will not turn this way.
GW2 was sticking by their manifesto only up to introduction of Fractal and ascended gears, if you haven’t noticed it. Everything they’ve done from there on was just one slippery slope heading to where we are now.
So I don’t know why people act all surprise and rage over rewards being locked behind raid. It was an inevitable outcome of the direction they were taking.
Manifesto was long gone. Please stop bringing it up.
If anyone of you still hanging around playing GW2 and thinks that manifesto still counts, you must have been wearing a massively jaded spectacles to have not notice how the game have changed over the years.

Raiders do raids because they enjoy them because the rewards are decent etc. I doesnt have to be a matter of difficulty but also a matter of time investment (but i wouldnt mind doing a series of 100cm’s types of fractals or even harder to get it). Funnily enough id argue pvp has less ppl playing lol. I am ok with not getting that particullar set even tho id love to have the medium armor and the light one. Again im not suggesting the same thing in other parts im suggesting diff forms of it in diff parts so if you like that particular set this is the way to take it. Also wvw and pvp having legendary armor thats a huge incentive to play it long term. Same with fractals.
Raiders are usually associated with exclusivity, ie. high tier, end game gears. “Decent Rewards” won’t get many playing even with good game play mechanic due to the grinding nature of raid for it’s associated reward.
I was raider for years, not in this game though. Trust me, no one is going to grind over decent rewards. How does wvw is going to have difficult nature beside time investment? running around with train, kill and flipping nodes.
Spvp with high rating, yes.Fractal is the new dungeon, it’s not going to have an exclusive legendary armor set attached to it. I can see legendary trinkets on it though, like backpack.
Open world pve? what? kill 10,000,000 Mordrem Sniper?
Highly unlikely they are going to open up access to legendary armor for non raider.
They are for sure not going to come up with new seperate set anytime soon too.why not? The end game goal for gw2 is basically get enough gold and raids are a good source of gold for once per weeb also there are unique skins which you cant get anywhere else titles etc
Raid is not only source of gold. Raiders are also required to consistently beat mechanic which deemed to be hard and challenging in a consistent basis. It takes lots of coordination, skills and massive time investment to be specific. Excluding ppl that cheat and buy run of course.
It would be hard to replicate that level of challenge outside raid.
spvp high rating may be, but that’s the only one.Well honestly seeing the skins I dont mind them being tied to raids, let us craft blank legendary armor pieces and skin them ourselfs in other game modes bam easy to implement.
Very interesting idea.
U should give raids a shot because the majority of bosses arent hard. I could argue the bosses in saw in wing 1 were as hard the first time as doing 100 cm for the first time.
Yes, I know it’s nowhere near as hard as what i used to get back in wow (vanilla, tbc and wotlk) and rift days. Because i’ve tried it. I have some Li in my currency bags. Was invited by ingame pre-HoT fractal friends when i came back from post HoT rage quit hiatus. I was pretty much still rusty and sorta got carried jumping straight into it without looking/researching fights much. My mind wasn’t there, i couldn’t commit, sensory overload element of the game that i hated (reason i can’t get into pvp in this game) and one thing lead to another … I pretty much screw up. The rest is history.
I don’t find it enjoyable, may be it’s my age, high latency or I’m still rusty. I dunno, I hated VG @ beta and still do.
I one shotted 100CM with pug on first attempt. It’s not hard, yes.
I know it’s not as hard as it looks. But there is certainly a reasonable big gap between raid and anything outside.True but difficulty isnt the only thing that deserves of the legendary armor its also time commitment wvw doesnt have a way to show if someone is the best of teh best nor do fractals but both can so whos spend countless hours in them. With that being said there are ppl that only do certain bosses each week namely the easiest ones in raids so they sure as hell dont deserve the armor any more than ppl who clear all the raids each time and yet they will get theirs. Also may i ask you did 100 cm the day it came out ?
Yah I certainly understand the sentiment that ppl who cheat/shortcut doesn’t deserve it too. But it’s a weakness in term of game design that allow them to exploit it. Not to mention Anet put buying runs on grey area.
The CM, few months ago. 4-5 months may be, I didn’t keep count. I assume you asking this because it has been nerfed.
I stop playing not long after HoT came out, i couldn’t really help it. I get nausea every time I visit HoT maps. Even after I came back, I try to avoid those maps as much as i could. C’est la vie … I don’t like HoT expansion in general.
The reaction is not surprising. It’s impossible to satisfy everyone with one single set, especially when it has to be enough outlandish and over-the-top to earn the title “legendary.” …
Can’t make everyone happy.
I keep hearing this term. If one aimed not to put effort in making everyone happy, how can one really make everyone remotely close to being happy?
HoT expansion was designed to divide the community further and promote elitism to new height.
They have never tried to make everyone happy from the get go with HoT.
I truly don’t understand why ppl are complaining of no access to it now and actually bought HoT. It was made clear that they were not going to cater anyone outside raid with legendary armor introduction. What prompts the delay reaction of something that one has already known for fact for more than a year? Envy I supposed.
