Hello fellow rangers, I’ve a question for you !
How can I beat a skilled perma stealth thief in WvW?I haven’t figured out yet how to kill them, I tried almost every build/tactic available but nothing as changed, I can’t even dream to stomp them
.
The mach usually ends up in 2 ways :
a) I manage to bring him around 20/30% hp before he stealth, he will full recover and try to kill me using another tactic, if they don’t try any weak point they will just vanish away.
b) they stealth/bs me to the Death, no way I can survive this, they can outrun me easy, and like point a) they can stealth to recover and try again if they are in trouble.
I’m oc talking about those thiefs that realy knows how to play it.

Yesterday I saw 2 thiefs taking out 6 players with little or no effort, I watched them from distance, it was almost pathetic, the 6 players managed to down both thiefs at least 2/3 times, but the thiefs could stealth ress each other so it was impossible to stomp/kill them. One by one the 6 brave soldiers died by those 2 thiefs.

I know I had way more fun playing hot join like a crappy death match arena than trying to play “try to kill the bunker” BS.
Glad to see other people agree with me… too bad A-Net broke their company reading glasses.
While the progress has been slow, their priority is making sure that whats already in the game works.
That means matchmaking, rewards (it is in the game its just a piece of skritt), leaderboards, etc.While other modes would be good, its more important that they get basic things working before they start expanding.
I’ve already quit, come back and quit again because their progression is horrible.
Why fix what is broken when you can make something x1000 better and x1000 easier. It’s a lot harder to balance a gametype that has nodes that a gametype that only focuses on killing. Why do you think WoW Arenas are so popular and people still PAY to play them today?
I want that, but in this game.
kitten node tanking for points…. it’s not even fun or rewarding to win like that.
Gives us some competitive arenas or team death match game types that actually take skill to win.
How about each one of us post a list of 5 basic and reasonable changes and see if ANet notices or likes any of them. We’ll all post something from the set of skills we actually use, so will thus cover all of them. Here’s mine:
1. Add a Blind effect to Warhorn 4, Hunter’s Call
Rangers are the only class that has no access to a Weapon Skill Blind nor any Traits that open it up. WH 4 is also a bit lackluster as it nonsensically requires LoS and is easily obstructed. Would be a nice way to give Rangers access to blind.2. Heal as One, reduce activation time to 1 second
This heal is currently far too easy to interrupt, with it’s 1 1/4 activation and ‘look at me I’m healing’ casting animation. The Warrior Heal ‘Mending’, also on a 20 second recast, that heals AND removes 3 conditions, has a 1 second activation time. Reasonable change.3. Make Pet F2 icon Display ICD
Currently, after you have used your pet’s F2 skill, the icon shows the cooldown time via being blacked out. If you attempt to use the F2 again during this time, it will fail. However, there is an invisible ICD for the other pet skills, where if you attempt to use the F2 skill, it will fail and you’ll get a shot cooldown. Right now, there is no way to know if your pet’s F2 is on an ICD as it is invisible…make the F2 icon show when it is unavailable due to the ICD via the same graphical effect it currently does foe the F2 cooldown itself.4. Change Trapper’s Defense Trait
This skill "Creates a spike trap while reviving an ally. " Modify the trap type from Spike to Smoke, which when tripped would either cause all allies in the field to be stealthed for 2 seconds, similar to Thief’s Merciful Ambush, or cause all hostiles in the field to be blinded, and of course be a smoke field.5. Modify Longbow-related Traits
Currently there are 3 longbow-related traits – Eagle Eye, Piercing Arrows and Quick Draw. These are all Master Traits, and 2 of them are in the same line, which means for anyone wishing to use those 2 together, they are automatically unable to access the Grandmaster Traits in that line. By Comparison, the Warrior Longbow range and the Engineer Rifle modifier are Adept Traits, and Warrior Pierce and Recharge timer reductions are bundled in the same Trait. The Engineer Recharge timer is also an Adept trait…Recommend bundling Piercing Arrows with Quick Draw in Skirmishing, and adding a new Master Marksmanship Trait that either extends range for Shortbow, or, Increases Shortbow and Harpoon damage by 5%, similar to Power Shots for Thief.
_ _ _These I feel are all reasonable, easily do-able, and while small changes, would represent some improvement for Rangers using these skills, as well as bringing them more in line with the other professions.
Guarantee this will be overlooked and nothing will be done because they don’t give a flying kitten.
-All spirits can now be launched, knocked down, and knocked back.
This was a bug fix which now will allow more counter-play when fighting spirits.
-Storm Spirit, Frost Spirit, Sun Spirit, Stone Spirit, and Spirit of Nature will now begin their recharge when the spirit dies instead of when the spirit is summoned.
-Storm Spirit, Frost Spirit, Sun Spirit, and Stone Spirit: Recharge has been reduced from 60 seconds to 25 seconds.
-Spirit of Nature: Recharge has been reduced from 240 seconds to 180 seconds.
Previously you were able to pre-cast spirits before a fight so that when they would die you could instantly re-summon them. This made it feel like there was little to no counter play. Players could take the time to AOE them down simply to have to deal with another set of spirits. These changes were made so that there is a time window where the ranger will be without spirits once they die. Since the spirits now die after their duration, we had to reduce the recharge to compensate. In fights where they are dying often, the shorter recharge is a buff.
Solar Flare: Fixed a bug so this skill no longer applies a duplicate infinite duration blind.
This was a simple bug fix removing unintended functionality.
Just like Mesmer clones? They can keep up 3 clones constantly. You fight the entire time trying to single target the Mesmer down because it’s impossible to kill all the clones in time before they refresh some new ones. Not to mention they go in and out of stealth so you lose your target (tab target blows), so you have to try and click with your mouse. I’ll 1v1 people on my Mesmer literally only using the #1 and #2 on the staff and win 100% of the time.
Thief? Goes in and out of stealth and can leave a fight whenever he or she pleases. Trying to 1v1 a thief in spvp or wvw is useless because they literally CANNOT lose if they just run away.
Wtf does Ranger have? A kittened pet that will chase a person forever getting 1 or 2 hits in if you are lucky. Signets have stupid cooldowns and terrible passive effects. Spirits are dog kitten now. Traps are boring and horrible.
Tank pets = Toughness
Range = Precision
Cats = Crit Chance
Birds = Condition Damage
Spiders = Condition Duration
Drakes = Power
Moa = Boons
Just an idea. What do you think?

Just to clarify:
It’s actually significantly cheaper than a sub fee. The $20 you spend is the initial cost. It could also cost $10 + Gold, or no money at all if you have enough gold.
Once you have a server, it costs 480 gems for 20 days, 960 for 40 days, 1440 for 60 days. That’s less than $10/mo if only one person is supporting the server. Anyone can apply time to servers. Also, don’t forget you can convert gold to gems.

Guilds like TW, TWL Choo, IRON, TYSM have members that transfered parts of their guilds to JQ and been taking up spaces in WvW just to have Guild vs Guild. They are ruining the Que’s for those who actually care to WvW. I doubt anything will be done but I’d like to pass the info out to the rest of SoR and JQ in why you are having longer que times.

The time limit is there to give you a feeling of constant gear progression (always working towards a new goal). They originally added Ascended items because people felt they were able to reach the gear cap (exotic) too quickly. So now you always have something to work towards. The game is still balanced around exotic gear (mobs didn’t get stronger when ascended was added), so this isn’t limiting your ability to do well in the game. It just gives you the feeling of always being able to do better. Don’t worry about getting all ascended gear as soon as possible, that’s not the point of it. It’s just there for people that want an extra challenge.

Retaliation is ok . Solve zerg or Ac issue
Retaliation actually supports zerg fighting because you can mass retal a zerg and the people will just kill themselves trying to attack you.

Why is there only 2 ways of getting these?
1) 12 Commendations + 5 Gold
2) 40 Laurels + 50 Ectos
-This is very frustrating because commendations/laurels are account bound currency that I need to use on multiple characters.
I recently changed my builds on 2 of my 80’s and I need to replace 4 accessories…equally out to 36 commendations and 40 laurels for 4 pieces.
I don’t care about the gold or ectos I need because I can farm all day every day to get that, but I am limited to the amount of laurels or commendations I can get per week.
I can only get 5 commendations per week and 7 laurels per week (10 for monthly) so starting from nothing it will take me 8 weeks to get all the accessories I need for my 2 characters? 2 MONTHS?!!? Then when I finally get the pieces a patch will make me have to change my build again…
Just kittening make it so barrage can’t hit you for 60k damage.
Hit 1 retal hit per barrage. 12 barrage hits = 12 retal hits (about 4k damage)
Good for you BT, GvG is kitten measuring plain and simple. It is the fall back “come at me bro” of WvW, and hilarious when you think about the implications. First off, and I’m sure you can relate, TSYM has chewed up zergs 3, 4, even 5 times our size before because they are uncoordinated or we were better trained. We have also outnumbered an enemy and through skilled manipulation of the terrain, a well placed piece of siege, or a 3+ stage feign/portal flank were sent packing.
The point is this, if you need that balance to make sure that your kitten remains unchallenged, WvW is not your stage. Being in situations where you are outnumbered drastically, or taking a massive force against another massive force, practicing the 5 Ds of Dodgeball until one of you makes the winning play and claim victory (and bags) is what WvW is all about!
What I think you are looking for, is sPvP/tPvP. Don’t come in here and bawl when its not balanced, or your team isn’t big enough. If you had 10 amazingly skilled people, and I rolled you over with 50, who is at fault? Me for killing you, or you for parking that little SmartCar of a force in my way? Honestly, its not OUR fault that sPvP isn’t more popular. Turns out people want to play with a more dynamic battlefield, and enjoy larger, more epic, and less structured fights.
Nothing gets a team on cloud nine faster than taking a massive force out with a bare bones small op team. Try it, if they beat you, try it again! Its intensely hard, but so rewarding when you accomplish it!
Oh yea, and BT welcome to T1. Here, when asked how many you had with you, the answer is always around 10-15.
WvW is all meta game, your not going to wipe a force with a sizable difference in numbers unless you somehow come out with a new meta that no one knows what is going on to counter it or you have a bunch of siege sitting behind u. I think those days are long gone until Anet decides to change the balance again.
You say GvG is a ‘kittening measuring plain’ but in reality it is not.. If you think wiping a button mashing zerg with rarely ever any individual player skill on never even playing grounds makes your guild good; your in for a rude awakening. I think GW2 is designed as an MMO targeting a more casual crowd – not unlike WoW, but you should not be so quick to insult the skilled players that seek that level of play within the game.
I think we will see a big difference in the separation of skilled groups and zergs with the up and coming fixes of skill lag and balance in general, much like many games in the past some still live by the philosophy SKILL > ZERG. But there is only so much you can do in a young game when the odds are stacked against you in terms of mechanics, balance and lag.
Do not take this as a kittening whining post about all the things above, instead a perspective from a guild that was founded on skill for the fields of GvG.
Also don’t get me wrong – I’ve been there leading massive zergs wiping and getting wiped by other massive zergs as one of the leaders/founders of [ICoa]. That play style gets boring fast and has already burnt out a lot of the best commanders that have ever played this game. I suggest you seek something to better challenge your personal skill and commanding skill.

3600 damage seems fair to me…. more fair than 36000 damage

I usually just activate Troll Unguent right before Barrage and it prevents me from killing myself. It is obnoxious that our most useful contribution to a zerg fight results in us losing over half our HP, though.
At least you’ll tag a lot of people with the barrage and should be standing pretty far back so if you do down yourself on retaliation you have a good chance for a rally.

What I’m trying to get at is why do we even take retaliation damage (especially) that much damage from Barrage….
I’m not talking about what you can do to try and stay alive from 20-30k++ damage from one of your abilitys.

I took over 30k damage from 1 barrage today… nothing I could do about it.

Zerging is a vicious cycle, and in the end, there is no server that created the zerg in this game. To blame another server for making you zerg up is rather silly, especially considering that you always have the option of running multiple groups, but that many guilds simply choose not to do this because it is often less effective.
