We were never meant to glitch and exploit our way above level 50 anyway.
Freezing mossman, glitch skipping manor and arah were exploits. On the other hand, for fractal 50+ the tactics used were the same ones used by people without AR to deal with fractal 30+.
To me the fact that “no one was meant to go above fractal level 30+”, even though there was enough AR available to facetank agony 48, means that “we were not meant to” is not the issue here. Otherwise, our weapon skins and loot should have been taken away because we were all “exploiting”.
However, there’s little point in crying over spilt milk, especially 2 years old spilt milk, so I’ll stop here.
I’m a returning player who has been away from the game since 2013.
In the past, to challenge ourselves, me and some friends got our personal reward levels to 80.
Today I logged into my account and saw that that my reward level, in addition to those of my 2 other characters who were both >48, has been reverted back to 30.
I would like to know:
1. If there has been a fractal progression reset in the last 2 years and whether that reset applied to everyone
2. The reasoning behind such a move
I mean, it’s rather frustrating to see the results of my efforts taken away like this.
Side note: humblebragging with a sort-of proof of my progression
The point of fractals is to create an elusive long-term goal to keep suckers like me occupied with the game and grind for that complete fractal weapon skin set, until months afterwards they realize they have long stopped enjoy playing gw2, and their logging in and completing dailies are just habit.
The point of level 80 fractals is to create a bragging right, besides a few others like solo-ing x boss/dungeon, for those who want to lord over the plebs in this game of everything being equal. You can win almost any kitten measuring contest and make legendary-wielders feel as common as dirt just by mentioning you have fractal personal level 80/having done volcanic shaman 79 multiple times.
Oh and btw I have fractal personal 80 and have done shaman 79 multiple times.
I’m only level 60 fractals, but I would take a Guard, Ele, Necro any day over warrior. Especially on shaman. I leveled through the 50s with eles, guards, necros and rarely warriors. I would take a good necro over a good warrior any day of the week.
And I’m only level 80, have been so for 4 months but I would still take a good war over a good necro any day of the week. Even with level 79 shaman, two guards is all you should ever need.
Level 60 or 80, they all have as much significance as that lol dungeon master title. People can get carried/inch their way to 48 despite being bad, and they can do the same til level 80.
Saying playing what and how you want to play, stop and smell the roses with your friends to have a fun and relaxed time, etc is one thing, warrior being objectively better than necro in pve is another. What matters is whether OP asked about the latter or former.
I’m not saying that I disagree, but my uneducated guess is that his hitting hard is there so the fight wouldn’t be much of a joke, like certain fights in open-world pve and guild missions – "spend 30 seconds to pull the chains, jump through hoops and 5 seconds faceroll through bosses’.
A bit ironic considering the fun mechanics was added to stop the facerolling.
The chills at the ritual phase and on bubble are highly underrated and none of the “holy trinity” can chill or even cripple a bubbled boss.
And yet the holy trinity doesnt need those chills at all. Small tricks like weakness for dredge, blind for cliffside mobs, etc sound good on paper, but are quite irrelevant in practice. On the other hand, the overall tradeoffs for bringing necro instead of another war/guard/ele are huge.
When I was still playing thief I felt kind of smug thinking my stealth, spammable immobilize/blind, etc were irreplaceable but after rolling war/guard and running with some good players I realized a competent group doesnt need those fancy skills of mine at all.
Frankly I find class loyalty in gw2’s broken pve to be dumb and borderline stubbornness.
endurance food for volcanic’s final boss, the new dragon’s breath bun for dredge clown car/imbued shaman if your class has easy access to vigor/endurance regen.
Favourites:
Arah/Volcanic fractal: having the only exciting boss fights. Also because Lupicus is gigantic, as how I expect bosses should be.
CM: outdoor/manor setting, the atmosphere doesn’t feel as bleak and heavy as others
Swamp fractal: same reason as CM – refreshing rainforest. I like listening to the cricket sound as well as the piano/violin piece that often plays in the background.
Least favorite:
Underwater fractal: underwater combat is boring and the jellyfish boss fight makes me feel sleepy.
I actually prefer other grinder game’s kill x mobs collect y items to combine into z rewards system, instead of this run around here press f. The former feels like actual gameplay, while the latter feels like I’m having deja vu, seeing the same scene for hundreds of times.
I like French players. Though some are too dependent on exploits which can lead to awkward moments, they are the most creative players in EU when it comes to tactics.
I agree, why so few when it’s a game about kitten and superficial appearance? How else would I be able to brag to strangers about how I’ve salvaged 20k items, killed 1000 insects, run around in x zone spamming F, bought all items in certain categories.
Unless the tool offers a something new/a better solution I will continue using lfg.com, because I can avoid potential failures from judging the posts/recognizing names that I’ve played with “this group must suck they need 3 guards for fractal 30, this guy is a mf leecher, this guy is a good warrior, etc”.
I found myself being the top DPS of my usual dungeon group so I swapped to all berserker(having tons of experience under my belt for dodging)…. I swapped back to my soldier setup and almost never hit the pavement.
Then perhaps you don’t actually have tons of experience for dodging like you think you do, and the pvt crutch was saving you all the time. A completely different argument.
And there’s no dps meter, you only assume you’re doing top dps, a rough estimation at best.
The living story makes me feel patronized, like I’m playing dora the explorer. Or those browser games on facebook.
Only two goods things’ve come out of it for me – making me dig up the old Monkey Island for nostalgia’s sake, and a cheap alternative to omnomberry ghosts.
I’d be fine with spending up to 800 gems per skin … spend up to 0 gems per RNG Box for a small chance at a good looking skin, which is what I’ve been doing.
However, a guy spending 3200 gems on rng boxes can make up for the loss of 3 of you not spending any. And it’s not far-fetched to assume that more than 25% of the player base are like him.

Nah those elitist scumbags get the math alright. It’s the ones who disagree with them are making exaggerated “waiting 20 mins” or downplayed “only a few second difference” estimates.
Earlier today I joked with a friend about using 200g that was left over from my cof days and I currently want nothing to spend on, to get a ticket, then claim on the forum/reddit that I’ve got it for 13g, just for trolling. The number 200 because it seems to be the average rate for guildies and my previous fused ticket.
RNG is a funny thing indeed, I did get a ticket for 13g, after randomly buying and opening a stack of 250 normal coffers. I really sympathize with people who are ticked off by this whimsical creature.
Well there goes my month’s worth of luck. Now I will repeatedly get the same fractal skin for one month straight.

Thank God, skins that actually resemble traditional fantasy weapons, not another set of zany futuristic toys with obnoxious effects for obnoxious people.
60 mins in.. it’s dredge fractal.. they bust out their magic find sets and start pinging their drops like they’re smart motherkitteners

Whenever I get dredge/ascalon/cliffside I try not to pay attention to the party UI or gears on teammate, because seeing the luck sigil/mf food, or how those guys switch from t3 cultural to crafted armors/glowing swords to dull blades makes me want to do nothing than autoattack.
Sometimes I wish I were in one of those traditional grindfest mmos, being an average scrub getting lorded over by those few with their glowing armors and weapons that they got from being the 1% of the population that could beat x dungeon/y dragon. I’d actually be jelly, but still would have some respect for those hardcore players. That would beat having to hear people with overblown sense of entitlement claiming they should be special for crafting some toy-looking skins, and that their peers are actually jelly over said skins of theirs.
I’m more proud of these than my legendary that is collecting dust.
My goal was to collect all the skins. The 4 skins I’m missing seem so close, yet are so far. At this rate I estimate that it will take me another month or two to even get a new non-duplicate skin. If I were 5 years younger, or if there was new content/dungeons coming instead of these temporary distractions that I prefer playing actual adventure games over, I’d stick to the grind longer. So I gave up.
Thanks my friends and the talented/funny pugs I’ve met, you’ve made it a memorable grind for me.
I’m just saying, don’t ask for harder content when you can’t beat what’s already there.
As someone who got to 80 after patch, I can say that in retrospection it isn’t as challenging as some people make it out to be, except for maybe shaman 79. Sure stuff like putting reflection outside obvious boss fights, losing mobs, etc are needed but most efficient groups running 38/48 dailies are doing them anyway, it’s only an improvement from the average group flailing their arms in the middle of those packs of chanters/dredges/ascolanians.
50+ fractals are just an illusion of challenge, in the same way how people put restrictions on themselves to do x encounters.
And I don’t think you mean people should do AC in blue-geared 40s before they have the right to ask for harder content.
However for whatever reason even after fear me and sanctuary non of the bombs went off. When we tried just dropping them without any sanctuary or fear me, they went off no problem. What gives?
Plant bombs, and move away from them, dont stand on top of bombs.
