Base mesmer power dps for raids

They should have looked at the GMs in the Domination line since there’s nothing there for a DPS Mesmer.

My suggestion: Mental Anguish also affecting Phantasm attacks (even if PvE only). Or remove/rework Imagined Burden (that thing is Master Tier at best).

Mastery System - An opinion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Rexx.1805

Rexx.1805

My opinion on Maguuma Masteries:

I’m not against Masteries being grindy and gating content. However, I think the Mastery System could be improved a LOT. I would suggest looking at the various Masterys and “tiering” them according to the following premisses:

“Basic navigation masteries” - This are the ones that allow you to progress trough the Maps. They should be the first ones you can Train and take much less time, mastery points, and experience to complete than they do now. (Examples: Bouncing Mushrooms, Itzel Poison Lore, Nuhoch Wallows, Exalted Markings, all Gliding Masteries)

“Merchant Masterys” - The ones that give access to the Merchants of each Race. Should take a bit longer to complete than the first “tier”. But nothing too grindy.

“Utility Masteries” - The ones that provide a QoL to your characters but nothing essential. Should require more exp and points to complete and it’s ok if they are a bit grindy. (Examples: Exalted Assistance, Speed and Adrenal Muchrooms, Exalted Gathering)

“Challenge Masteries” - The ones that let you challenge a Champion of the respective Race to rip some (hopefully very good!) rewards. This is where the GRIND should be with BIG chunks of exp and many mastery points needed. Long term investement in order to get big benefits. (Examples: Nuhoch Proving, Exalted Assistance, Itzel Champion)

Berserker Changes for BWE3

in Warrior

Hi Robert.

You’re doing a great job in the Elite Specs you’re working on. They all look great.
Would you consider changing “Bloody Roar” GM Trait to something more direct damage focused? I ask this because we already have a GM trait focused around damaging conditions (King of Fires).

For example:

Bloody Roar: When you enter Berserker Mode, you apply Taunt (1,5 Sec), Weakness (5 Sec) and Vulnerability (10 Vulnerability, 10 Sec) to nearby foes (300 Radius).

What do you think?

BWE 3 Tempest Specialization Changes

Hi Karl.

I want to show you some tweaks I made to some of the Tempest Traits. Made sure to keep them rather similar to what we have now, just adding extra functionality, merging, better numbers, etc…

Overall, I think these would help improve the Tempest in all game modes. What do you think about them?

(Just focused on Traits here, even though some skills also need tweaking.)

Invocation is the class mechanic traitline. All classes have one. I’m not sure you can really argue against that. /shrug.

Hi again Kai. I know it is the “Class Mechanic Traitline” not arguing against that. I was just saying it’s much more pushed towards offense (Fury, Might, Crit, Damage Modifier, Unblockable Strikes) and utility (Stun Break, Condition Removal) than tanking & healing.

Revenant Changes Based on BWE Feedback

in Revenant

Rexx.1805

I’d rather the Energy not be removed since it’s what balances the skills to have a low Cooldown in the first place. With this in mind, I certainly would not want to see Cooldowns increased because of energy removal.

Not massive increases in the CDs…just some adjustments. I think Energy Costs hurt the flow of the weapons to be honest. Just my opinion here!

Also, I don’t agree with your changes to Invocation and Retribution. First, Invocation is not the Offensive line, Devastation is. Invocation has to do with Switching Legends, the class mechanic, and removing Shrouding Mists makes no sense. Not only that, the incoming damage reduction is extremely useful! Second, removing Unwavering Avoidance from the Retribution line would be removing a source of Stability, which is already hard to come by for a Revy. If anything, it should be buffed to longer duration Stability.

I think Invocation can be considered a “Utility” line. Has some offensive and some defensive stuff in there.
The reason I don’t like Shrouding Mists is because we already have lots of Traits that say “you take reduced damage” and “your outgoing healing is increased”. That space can be used for something much more interesting.

Unwavering Avoidance giving longer (4 Sec?) Stability is totally fine in my book. Better that way even! The Protection on dodge i suggested combined with all that damage mitigation and heal traits could become very OP.

Hi Roy!
You’re doing a great job with the Revenant. Keep up the good work!

Would you consider removing the Energy cost from Weapon Skills while tweaking their cooldowns?

Also, I would like to share with you some of my ideas regarding the Revenant Core Specializations. I’ve made sure to keep most Traits, just changing their position or adding some improvements.
As you can see, the Specializations and each “line” in them have a clear “theme” and improved synergy. (Took the “theme” idea from the Reaper!)

What do you think about these?

(I’m very passionate about this game and would love to help make it better!)

EDIT: Weakness duration is missing in the Pacifying Presence Trait. (Weakness, 3 Sec)

Mesmer Traits in PvE - Tweaks

Because I also proposed a 10% damage modifier to foes suffering from Confusion in the same line?

And then your first concession to PvP players was to drop that trait, plus it is boring. And you’re still ignoring Chaos…

Hi again Photo. I’m ignoring Chaos because that line (like Defense, Earth Magic, Shadow Arts, …) is more geared for PvP and making it good in PvE would require massive changes. Fixing that is way beyond my capabilities.

Domination, Illusions & Inspiration already have a place in PvE…and making them better is much easier.

Btw…i’m just giving ideas for people to discuss & Devs to consider. They’re not final and it’s normal if some of them are bad, annoying, etc. Work in progress…

Question: Of the changes I proposed which ones did you like? (It’s fine if you say “none!”) :P

Mesmer Traits in PvE - Tweaks

in Mesmer

Posted by: Rexx.1805

Rexx.1805

Well, pretty much all the condie ones atm. Ineptitude is pretty key for a lot of them, and being forced to trait specifically to get the IC cooldown would be incredibly damaging.

IC has always been a minor trait, and really belongs there. Suddenly changing it to a major would be bad, similar to how chaotic transference suddenly becoming a major that conflicts with chaotic dampening is very bad.

“Confusing Combatants” as an Illusion Minor would somewhat compensate the “Ineptitude” new placement. But I do see your point.
The things I’m suggesting are PvE focused but we could tweak them to minimize the “strain” on PvP.

What do you think of the changes considering just PvE?

@ Silverkey: While what you say is true, imo, Phantasms also fit any build. More than Healing Prism & Inspiring Distortion.

@Photoloss: The 10% would be for every skill. I feel like the GMs in this line are all very meh for PvE.

@ Fay: First of all…i’m honored by you posting in my thread.
We could move Ineptitude to Master and scrap the “Migraine” one I proposed.
And Illusionist’s Celerity is still there, i just merged it with Phantasmal Haste and made it GM.

Btw…what PvP builds do you think the Illusion changes would massacre?

Mesmer Traits in PvE - Tweaks

in Mesmer

Posted by: Rexx.1805

Rexx.1805

Hi Tyrians.

I loved the Specialization Patch. It improved Mesmer by a lot in PvE.
However, i still feel like some of our Traits lines should be tweaked a bit in order to give us a stronger place in organized settings (Dungeons) and general PvE. Some examples are the Domination & Illusions GM Traits that feel very lackluster in the types of content I mentioned.

So…I will propose a list of small tweaks…and you let me know how you feel about them! DEAL?

Domination:

Mental Anguish – Shatter skills do 20% more damage. You do 10% more damage to foes not activating skills. (A MUCH NEEDED DAMAGE MODIFIER)

Inspiration:

Persisting Images – Moved to 1st Minor.
Protected Phantasms – Moved to 2nd Minor.
Phantasmal Invigoration – New 3rd Minor. Phantasms grant regeneration (3 sec) and might (2 stacks for 3 seconds) every 3 seconds to nearby allies.

(GIVING THE MINORS A MORE COHERENT THEME – PHANTASMS)

Inspiring Distortion – Moved to Adept.
Healing Prism – Moved to Adept.
Mender’s Purity – Moved to Master. Merged with Restorative Mantras.
Illusionary Inspiration – Cast Signet of Inspiration when you create a Phantasm. The Regen in now on the 3rd Minor I proposed.

Illusions:

Illusionary Retribution – 1st Minor. Remains the same.
Confusing Combatants – New 2nd Minor. You and your illusions have a chance (33%) to inflict confusion on crit (3sec).
Master of Misdirection – 3rd Minor. Remains the same.

(MINORS HAVE A MORE COHERENT THEME – CONFUSION)

Migraine - New Master. Replacing Phantasmal Haste. 5/10 % more damage to foes suffering from confusion. (DAMAGE MODIFIER)

Master of Illusions/Illusionist – New GM Trait. Replacing Ineptitude. Your illusions attack skills recharge 20% faster causing them to attack more often. Reduced recharge on illusion summoning skills. (Merge of Illusionist’s Celerity & Phantasmal Haste).

Thoughts?

Blood Magic Trait Placement

in Necromancer

Posted by: Rexx.1805

Rexx.1805

First of all, curses is going to be great for anybody with precision (eg zerkers).

I respectfully disagree.
The reason why people took Curses with Zerker Gear was the Precision it granted and the strong damage modifier “Target the Weak”. But those are changed now…the incentive is not that great anymore.

But i could be wrong…

Blood Magic Trait Placement

in Necromancer

Posted by: Rexx.1805

Rexx.1805

Hi Tyrians!

Looks like the “Blood Magic” Specialization will become a good choice in PvE when the Patch goes live considering Curses gives so little to Power Specced players.
However, in my opinion, it has a poor trait placement that holds it back from beeing a REALLY GREAT Spec. Why? Because the best Traits for PvE are fighting each other in the same tiers (Banshe’s Wail & Vampiric Presence to give you an example).

My suggested Trait placement is:

Minors:
Blood Bond
Vampiric
Vampiric Presence

Adept:
Mark of Evasion
Ritual of Life
Quickning Thirst

Master:
Life from Death
Banshe’s Wail
Last Rites

Grandmaster:
Vampiric Rituals
Unholy Martir
Transfusion

Let me know what do you think. Cheers!

Anyone impressed by the shouts?

Rexx.1805

Hi again guys. Just a proposal here. Some improvements to make the shouts much more usefull when fighting less enemys.

Trait:
Augury of Death - Shouts recharge 20% faster. Additional 2% faster recharge for each foe you hit.

Skills:
“Your Soul is Mine!” - Heal yourself (4-5k) and gain life force (10%). Addional life force gain (2%) for each foe you hit.

“You are all Weaklings!” - Weaken nearby foes and gain Might (10 stacks, 5 seconds). Additional might stacks (2) for each foe you hit.

“Nothing can save you!! - Remains the same. It’s quitte good actually!

“Rise!” - Summon 5 Minions. The type of Minion depends on how many foes you hit. Cooldown greatly increased (60-90 seconds).
1 – Jagged Horrors
2 – Bone Minions
3 – Bone Fiends
4- Shadow Fiends
5 – A New Minion type (weaker than Flesh Golem) or Blood Fiends

Note: (You can’t use the “actives” like Rigor Mortis, Putrid Explosion, etc).

“Suffer!” - Chill & tranfers conditions (5) to nearby foes. CD increased to 60 seconds.

“Chilled to the bone!” - You are encased in ice when casting making you invulnerable (2 seconds). Rest remains the same.

What do you guys think? I made the last three a lot more powerfull. Maybe to much? :P

Rexx.1805

Devs have to take all cases into account; this is why they should stop making abilities that are so powerful in that best case (except for occasional elites/etc.). Skills that have more even performance between best & worse case are easier to balance with other skills & traits – which makes for better class balance as a whole.

Also I prefer characters that don’t perform like a yo-yo.

I know they do. But balancing the skills all around it is wrong in my opinion. Like you said, it leads to extremely uneven performances and makes balancing very hard.

For example, let’s talk about “Your Soul is Mine”:

When traited & hitting 4-5 foes – Quite good & balanced actually!
When traited & hiting 3 foes – Meh…
When traited & hitting 1-2 foes – Bad!!!

When not traited: TERRIBAD if hitting any less than 5!

Rexx.1805

I was not impressed by the Shouts at all. Why? Because they’re clearly being balanced around the “best case scenario” of hitting 5 enemies & being traited with “Augury of Death”. If we don’t meet those conditions most are very weak.

“Nothing can save you!” is the exception. It’s always good…and becomes awesome when the conditions are met.

EDIT: Didn’t notice “You are all weaklings!” is a stunbreaker. That makes it much better than I thought.

Seems like Reaper will be able to achieve 25 Stacks of Vulnerability on it’s own with minimal work.

Bitter Chill - Chilling a foe inflicts vulnerability. (5 Stacks lasting 8 seconds)

Death Shiver - Constantly apply vulnerability to nearby foes while in Death Shroud. (6 Stacks lasting 10 seconds every 3 seconds). That’s 18 stacks

Unyielding Blast - Life Blast pierces and causes vulnerability (2 Stacks lasting 10 seconds).

These last 2 Traits will probably affect Reaper’s Shroud. Would make 0 sense if not.

Probably not enough of a group buff in PvE…but it’s a start! Thoughts on this?

Simple Changes

in Necromancer

Posted by: Rexx.1805

Rexx.1805

Hi guys! A little brainstorming here! Just some simple changes to skills that would improve Necromancers in the various types of content. Let me know what do you think?

Unholy Feast : Becomes a Blast Finisher. (Utility in Dungeons/WvW/PvP)

Wail of Doom: Becomes a Blast Finisher. (Utility in Dungeons/WvW/PvP)

Putrid Explosion: Remove the delay on the Blast Finisher. Instantly blows the 2 Minions. (Utility in Dungeons/WvW/PvP)

Life Siphon: Reduced cast time. Improved damage and healing. Heals nearby allies. (Stonger damage/support/sustain)

Signet of Vampirism:
Passive – Remove the cooldown on passive heal and decrease it to a balanced amount.
Active – Increase the base heal. Places a buff on you and up to 4 nearby allies that lasts for 10 seconds and siphons life from foes they struck. (Damage/Heal – 200/100 per strike). (Damage part to low maybe?)
(Offensive Support & Self-Sustain)

Blood is Power: No longer bleeds enemies. It now grants 10 Stacks of Might (15-20 seconds) to you and up to 4 nearby allies. You gain 2 stacks of bleeding (5-10 seconds) for each affected ally. (Offensive support)

Corrosive Poison Cloud: Destroys projectiles passing through the field. Change the weakness to cripple. (Utility)

Spectral Wall: It now reflects/destroys projectiles. (Utility)

Spectral Armor: No longer gives protection. Cooldown increased to 60 seconds. Makes you invulnerable for 3 seconds. Gives life force on end. (When focus fired in PvP)

Well of Suffering: The Vulnerability lasts longer. (10-15 seconds) and cooldown reduced (30 seconds). (Offensive support)

Well of Darkness: Lower cooldown (30 Seconds). (Better utility for trash mobs in Dungeons)

Well of Power: Gives 5 stacks of Stability to self (5 seconds). Cooldown reduced (40 seconds). (A way to fight CC in PvP/WvW)

Minions: Only in PvE and WvW. When the Minions are the target they take full damage. If not, damage is severely reduced. (Could apply to Ranger Pets, Phantasms, etc). (Makes Pets actually usefull in PvE/WvW)

Mind Wrack a GM trait!?!?!

in Mesmer

Posted by: Rexx.1805

Rexx.1805

Honestly, that mind wrack trait needs to be GM at its current state, as it gives 50% damage increase to anyone that isn’t using a skill. So if you take confounding suggestions, you can mirror blade, blink, diversion or mantra, mind wrack and your target will probably have died. If my mind wracks do about 2.5k to the average person without mind wrack trait, with fragility and that trait, they will now do 4.1k (not including extra vuln from dazes and mirror blade), and combined with a 3 bounce mirror blade, that target is going to explode.

Agreed! My jaw dropped when i read that Trait, it’s really powerfull.

But I would change the discription to something like this:

Mental Torment – Mind Wrack does more damage. If your foe is innactive, drop a nuclear bomb on them instead.

I can already imagine the tears if this build makes it trough development. It will be a nightmare to fight agaisnt combining the survivability of PU with the pressure & condition burst potential of Maim.

I doubt they will remove Deceptive Evasion even though I can see them moving it to the GM Tier. The build would still work on that case. And you don’t need Mantra Traits on these builds….they work fine with no Mantras.

If they keep the DE, MtD & PU in the lines they are at the moment the Spec would be way more powerfull than it’s now. And they intend to remove garbage traits…not create more. It’s all speculation (I know that) but I can see the Spec getting a lot more cheese if the key parts remain.

3 GM Traits - Huge Boost for some Specs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rexx.1805

Rexx.1805

After reading the blog posts about specializations and the fact that you can in HoT spec in 3 lines and get 3 GM Traits i started to think about some builds that will get a huge buff from this. It’s a little early since we don’t know if some Traits will get deleted or changed but let’s speculate a bit.

I’ll give you an example:

Condition Mesmer: If all the Traits remain you can in HoT merge the MtD & the PU condition builds and create something far more powerfull. In the current state of the game getting PU & MtD together means sacrificing the Deceptive Evasion trait that is vital to both builds. NO MORE! You will be able to use them all together and still get another GM Trait (Harmonious Mantras perhaps?). Sounds insane right?

Now…post a build that you think will gain a lot with the new changes!

She “poisoned his mind” by simply telling him stuff. There was no literal hex, curse, or other metaphysical influence on Shiro. There was no mind control. This was the equivalent of me telling you that your history professor or wife is planning to murder you, and you believing it for absolutely no reason.

He didn’t met her the day before doing all that crazy stuff.

It’s seen in cutscenes that he met her when he was just a renowned soldier, before becoming the Emperor’s Bodyguard. Then he was at the Emperor’s service for years (confirmed to be at least 14), all this time consulting the Fortune Teller. And all she told him would eventually happen, her prophecies about him did come to pass. He had his reasons to believe her, and even then he didnt…killing her for “lying” when she told the Emperor would kill him.

Then he began thinking that maybe she told him the truth, and this “doubt” would lead to his madness.

He literally does every evil thing ever because some random old woman told him to. There’s no other reason for him to betray the emperor. Then he goes on, supposedly tortured about the experience… on a quest to come back to life, raise an army of shiroken, in order to what… murder everyone for no discernible reason?
There’s no clear or consistant motivation for anything Shiro ever does. Ever.

This will be a really long post. Sorry. I just want to tell you that his story is more complex than that.

He was a very loyal and ambitious soldier that protected the Emperor and his family with utter devotion and ruthlessness.
Then the Fortune Teller, who was actually a demon servant of Abaddon (God of Lies, Secrets, etc), started influencing his mind and gaining his trust. She poisoned his mind against the Emperor telling him that he would be killed by the ones he did so much for.
His devotion to the Emperor was great but so was his will to live, this internal conflict leading him to madness and he began using dark and forbidden magic (probably taught to him by the Demon). Choosing self-preservation and feeling betrayed, he killed the Emperor at the Harvest Cerimony, wich actually broke his mind further.
With the whole Cantha turning agaisnt him wanting revenge he faced against countless soldiers, being killed in the end by the combined efforts of three heroes. Feeling betrayed by all, he died in a fit of rage unleashing the Jade Wind.
He was further punished in death by the Oracle of the Mists, becoming an Envoy, bound to be a shepperd of souls. But his will was to strong, and he learned how to use those powers to create an army and take revenge upon the country that betrayed him. Then the whole GW: Factions story happens…

As you can see his story is actually very well thought and he didn’t to those things “just because”.

In my opinion Shiro was by far the best villain in GW1. He’s to GW what Sephiroth is to the Final Fantasy series: a plain awesome and unforgettable villain with a pretty awesome and complex story.

Having him as a Legend would be amazing to the point i consider leaving him out a huge mistake. He’s loved by the GW Veterans and would “sell” the class to these players on it’s own. Not to mention his skills have really catchy names that match the Revenant theme like “Meditation of the Reaper”, “Riposting Shadows” and “Impossible Odds”.

So…bring SHIRO TAGACHI back A-Net! We’re counting on you!!!

Looking at the final “chapters” of the previous LS Season i really thought that A-Net had learned from their mistakes and was improving. Well…guess not! :-(

You know you aren’t obligated to reply when you disagree with someone. I guarantee you did not change anyone’s mind with your stupid ranting, no different than OP.

Stupid ranting or not, you have to agree: Threads of this nature show up a lot and most can be read as “I dont like people playing this way – END IT!”.

Another “nerf this because i don’t like it” post! I’m getting really…really tired of seeing this kind of post every day!

EotM was designed to be casual map where people waiting in queue can have some action. The design discourages roaming and pvp while favoring zerg…so what? You have normal WvW and sPvP for that kind of gameplay. Go there!

Rewards in EotM should not be nerfed further as they are not that great in the first place! Actually, rewards in normal WvW should be brought up!

Finally i don’t want to insult you but this whiner mentality has ruined a lot of places in this game! Why do people like you care if a player makes some cash/karma doing something you DONT WANT TO DO and CHOOSE NOT TO DO? It makes no sense to me!

I know players who make 60g+ a day in Dungeons…way more than me playing whatever content i want…but I DON’T CARE!

Peace

SFR is always listed as “Very High” because it really has a good population. And that population is not likely to drop anytime soon based on the fact we’re gonna win EU Gold League and that lures in more peeps.

The bad skills list

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Rexx.1805

Rexx.1805

I only have 5 classes so i’ll focus on those.

Guardian:

- Spirit Weapons – Shield is niche and only used in Fractals. Others are BAD!
- Litany of Wrath – Just BAD!
- Healing Breeze – Huge cooldown. Kinda low self heal. The cone is weird.
- Torch offhand – #5 should cure conditions on self.
- Mace – MEH!
- Shield – MEH!
- Sanctuary – Small area, huge cooldown & really small duration.

Mesmer:

- Scepter – #2 and #3 are very nice skills but #1 is just to slow…
- Chaos Armor – was a lot better when we gained protection upon activation.
- Signet of Midnight – MEH!

Warrior:

- GS #F1
- Riffle – so BAD it hurts.
- MH Mace/ MH Sword/OH Axe/ Shield – These are not bad weapons but should get a little extra to be put at the level of other weapons.
- Mending & Healing Surge – Two words: Healing Signet!!!
- Rampage

Ranger:

Well…i dont even know where to start…

Sword: #1 should not root you
- GS – #1 damage is low for a melee weapon. The evade should be removed and put somewhere else while buffing the damage.
- LB – #1 damage penalty is way to high. Rapid Fire damage is way to low for such a long channel. #3 is clunky and so is #4.
- SB – Solid weapon but some skills should get some extra.
- MH Axe – Gosh…so BAD!
- Troll Ungent/Water Spirit/Heal as One – Healing Spring is better in pretty much every situation.
- Shouts – BAD!
- Signets – WTF??? Only good when traited!
- Pet Skills- LOL!

Thief:

- D/D – #3 is clunky and BAD! Dagger is a power weapon…
- P/P – #1 is slow. #3 is kinda meh damage (but has a great name & animation!!!)
- Skelk Venom – I just don’t like it.
- Traps – Really underpowered.

Major Ranger Problem:

Other classes have GOOD weapons & GOOD utility skills that can be traited to become BETTER.
Ranger has BAD weapons & BAD utility’s that MUST be traited to be USABLE!

Nonsense…

Specific Game Mode

WvW/PVE

Proposal Overview

Make spirits a more reliable and meaningfull skill choice.

Goal of Proposal

Spirits are generally seen as unreliable, particularly in WvW & PvE encounters with big amounts of AoE. The 35% (70% when traited) chance on hit to actually have an effect is a very bad thing to have on a skill and the ICD makes it even worse. In fact…the only used Spirit in PvE is Frost Spirit and people use it because it’s bugged and ALWAYS provides the effect.

Proposal Functionality

Make Spirits work pretty much like banners. They can’t be targeted/damaged and have a passive that ALWAYS (no 35% or 70% chance) affects 5 allies around it. Spirits should work like this:

Water Spirit: Cures 1 condition from 5 nearby allies every X seconds.
Frost Spirit: 10% bonus damage to five nearby allies. (Just like it does now)
Stone Spirit: 10-15% passive damage reduction to five nearby allies.
Storm Spirit: 15-25% increased movement speed to five nearby allies.
Sun Spirit: Every 5 seconds grants a buff to 5 nearby allies that causes burning.
Spirit of Nature: Heals 5 nearby allies for X each second.

Activated skills of Spirits can remain as they are now.

With this changes the trait " Vigorous Spirits" becomes kinda useless so it could be changed to “Spirits affect 10 nearby allies instead of 5”. This would be AWESOME for WvW and Rangers could become a viable and wanted profession in Zergs.

Keep the other Traits that affect Spirits.

Associated Risks

Some of the Spirits could become quite good in WvW if they affect 10 allies.
In sPvP making Spirits unkillable could be way over the top. So these “passive” numbers could be tweaked a bit.

Monk: Protective Spirit

Ranger: Distracting Shot
