Same for me, crashing many times and the Send report feature to Anet also doesn’t work, that crashes too.
The OP summarizes my thoughts as well. I was originally excited about new BL maps, hoping it would reinvigorate WvW and in particular improve upon the Alpine BL experience, not kill it. The community is clearly rejecting the changes. WvW activity is down significantly and every player I have conversed with regarding the changes have expressed dismay and are rarely playing any longer. They either play PVP or no longer login.
I decided to pull my ele out of the closest last night for some solo roaming in wvw.
When trying to get the stomp under mist form state, I experienced being interrupted in multiple outmanned fights by various channeled CC skills. I’m just wondering is this a bug or an intended change?
It just doesn’t seem to work the same like I remember. Here is one example:
I entered a 1 vs 5 fight and down first opponent. I started to stomp than activated mist form. After entering mist form, I was knocked back out of it via push back skill from LB ranger. Then I saw myself visually get back up and re-enter mist form again but the stomp was already cancelled out, it never completed. Mist form was definitely activated and on cool-down before I got hit by push back skill from ranger. Make sense?
I think the new map is too complex. It frequently feels like you’re running around a maze.
The Alpine map was a bit bland, there were too many flat areas, wasted unused space and it was too easy for attackers to quickly dominate camps and kill very slow yaks.
I feel like the new dessert map was an over the top effort in trying to address these issues.
The fix IMO, was the “winner moves up, loser moves down” approach. But ANET decided to stick with the glicko system instead.
I like this idea
What is glicko btw?
I don’t think so. SI has won multiple weeks in a row. Why are we still playing against them then?
You really need to get a better grasp of the glicko/rating system anet uses to understand the situation.
Maguuma and SBI traded off wins for a few weeks to begin to level out their rating, during this time HoD was originally the 3rd server. HoD however was divided with the new transfers they had received on if they wanted to be in T3 or T4. In the end (supposedly) a lot of the people that favored T4 stopped playing and HoD became a ghosttown unless a few of the old DB guilds were running.
Mag and SBI began to focus HoD out (focus may be too strong of a word because HoD was basically ded by then); and CD pushed up for T3. Once CD got up the first week was “GOLEM WEEK” if I remember correctly. CD was able to leech some rating due to the event, and then varying weeks beyond that all 3 servers allowed the matches to remain semi-close which allowed CD to further gain rating toward Mag and SBI. The rating CD gained, was lost by SBI/Mag which further distanced the rating gap between T3 and T2, thus locking in this matchup.
There are a few things that could change the matchup, but based on the rating system it would likely take a few (or even several) weeks to materialize. Things like a server imploding in T1-3 could eventually affect the T3 match. Or a server below T3 getting massive transfers and slowly climbing their way into T3.
Once you understand how the rating system works, it is fairly easy to see why things are “the way they are”. And you begin to understand if you have a few leaders on the other servers in with you, how easy it is to manipulate the ratings to get the desired result.
Ok well whatever, I don’t think it should be so easy to fix matches then. I think there should be more variety and diverse interaction between the different servers. Being told in team chat not to defend anything on Mag BL or buy any upgrades so we can make sure we lose, just seems silly to me. What are we supposed to do then? And I think for smaller groups of players especially, it just gets boring roaming and fighting the exact same opponents (other small parties) week after week. It almost encourages or sets a precedent that if you want to meet and fight new players, then you will need to pay and transfer
I don’t think so. SI has won multiple weeks in a row. Why are we still playing against them then?
We have been stuck in this same matchup since the middle of July. For more than three months now, the same three servers.
This has become a real game spoiler. We feel like we know all our opponents, what builds they run, their tactics, etc. It is getting quite tiring to play against the same servers for such a long time.
MAG guilds have even tried taking breaks to intentionally lose multiple rounds, hoping that one of the other servers would move out and it doesn’t work. A lot of players are venting about it in team chat. Please fix this.

For me the top priority is to enjoy longer fights. I like running tanky condi builds on my Mesmer and Ranger, because I enjoy having a gf that last more than just 2-3 seconds. I just find it more exciting to face that challenge, where I need to dodge, evade or stealth (essentially stay alive) while seeing the condi I apply slowly tick.
Majority of players I encounter in wvw are still power builds though. I think many just don’t have the patience and or care for a longer fight. They just want to get their rotation burst off and be done with it by 2-3 shotting their opponent, then move on. They get frustrated if they fail in doing that. I don’t get the fun in that.
What I don’t agree with is the ability to apply condi burst especially in an offensive manner or via traps. Insta applying 6+ nasty condi on your opponent especially with being able to insta stack massive amounts of burning, bleeds or torment just melting the victim’s HP so fast is not fair in my opinion. It is extremely difficult for many classes and build combos to deal with such a overwhelming application of condis.
I have also encountered this thief build multiple times in wvw and I think it is just plain ridiculous. I found it strange that Anet elected significantly nerf PU Mesmer and just turn a blind eye to this.
Congrats, well done! The way that last fight ended with that Necro, around 16:50, was epic.
People don’t like conditions. If they take a 10k backstab from stealth it’s fine, but confusion ticking during 6s for 1.5k damage is OP.
This ^^
I run a PU Mesmer condi build. It is not invincible in 1v1, you can still die.
A condi burn engi defeated me fairly easily. The engi’s aoe was so effective, my clones were just tickling him. Rather than running away, which I could of with all the new stealth, I stuck it out, got worn down and lost.
I also died to a nasty condi necro once. Signet of power just melted my hp so fast, I had no chance. I dropped in like 4 seconds.
On a side note, I notice that many of the players starting these threads to bash the new PU Mesmer always introduce themselves as a Thief. Go figure…
d/p thief venting about other class having too much stealth now, hehe! /me gets popcorn… “omfg, now how do I counter all that stealth…?”
This thread really did NOT need to be necroed…
It wasn’t my intention to necro anything. I’m just calling out the irony in how this thread was kicked off.
d/p thief venting about other class having too much stealth now, hehe! /me gets popcorn… “omfg, now how do I counter all that stealth…?”
Ok I just never see any other ranger in WvW with so much swiftness. I’ve seen like up to 30 sec stacks and all, but a constant 2 min upkeep was making me scratch my head.
There is a ranger that I see roaming in WvW and is able to upkeep 2min stacks of swiftness. His stacks hover between 1.43 – 1.56 min to be precise, never ticks below 1.43min. Is this really possible or could the player be cheating? He uses LB and GS as weapon set.
I don’t agree with the OP’s arguments at all. When I come across a power warri with my condi ranger, I don’t see my conditions killing a warri that fast at all. In fact, I usually find the warri’s burst and just general dps dropping my hp much faster and easier. During this time I need to rely on careful timing to mitigate that damage and imo that takes significant skill. I need to make sure I manage my dodges, evades, stun breaks and just general kiting and positioning in and efficient and effective way to make sure I survive long enough against hard hitting dps, so my conditions will eventually wear the warri down. This does take significant skill in my opinion., it is no cake walk!
I think what fires up power users, is they are just get too easily frustrated when their 5-10 sec burst opening and rotation fails to down you. The weakness among these players as I see it is they are too aggressive in the duel and no longer know what to do after that.
Just to clarify, I am running fairly tanky gear with my classes, condi builds and I am still getting two shotted in WvW. I don’t enjoy combat like this if it only takes 2 skills/buttons pushed to get downed in like 3 seconds. One stun, daze, etc then you’re just insta-dead, that just sucks!
I am not sure if this is a problem in PvP, but in WvW I am getting Two Shotted now since yesterday’s patch and this just sucks…!
Anyone else?
Mesmers, Thiefs and certain Warri skills is the worst. I run tanky condi builds on my classes and one shot eats like 90% of my HP seriously!
The best thing to do is pop up on a BL where the opponents do not have WPs yet in their keeps. Flip the south camps and sentries, then just hang out there. Eventually someone will come to recapture. If you do this on a BL where they do have WPs already, I find it is usually more than just one coming to recapture so it is difficult to have a 1vs1. If you proceed to move on to the north camps, you will likely miss anyone who comes to recapture the south camps. Whenever I head north to take more camps in clockwise motion, it is extremely rare that anyone ever bothers to come intercept me. Players want the karma, XP and loot more so while you’re capping north camps, they are just going to go for recapping the south camps.
And as others have already mentioned, I agree that solo roaming is trending downwards. It has gotten more difficult these days, there are so many niche builds out there now that who wins in a 1v1 can very much depend on the class/build combination. Before they rolled out Ferocity and Condi builds started trending upwards, I found skill mattered much more back then. Now it is your class/build combo having a much greater determining factor in influencing who will win in a 1vs1 fight.
I have main’d a ranger in wvw since this game launched, so I know this class very well. However I do roll a thief in wvw (condi actually) quite often, and while in my thief, I have never lost to an encounter with a ranger.
So I think you are just not playing the class right. I suggest you have a spell steal which grants stealth prep’d before you approach and engage your target. Use it to close the gap. Then use your blinds, think about the timing and be patient. Don’t burn and rush through your skills. You can also use dagger storm to block rangers arrows. If you don’t manage to improve, I suggest you change builds to like a condi thief. Even a noob condi thief should never die to a ranger. You can also try a d/p build for maximum stealth but honestly I don’t respect d/p thiefs in wvw, because I think it is just a pure kitten way to play that entails absolutely no risk at all.
Lot of lag this evening on MAG/DB/SI matchup. Please fix!
I see mesmers roaming in wvw that seem to constantly have swiftness. Is it possible to stack that, how?
I am a returning player who has been away from the game for awhile. Can anyone recommend a condi Mesmer PU build for roaming in wvw? I used to run the build from blackwater and but it doesn’t feel so optimal anymore. I would like to be able to continue with most of the same dire gear that I already have if possible.
I am also experiencing a lot of lag now, like already described many times in this thread. I mostly roam in WvW and even 1v1 fights there is too much lag. It is becoming a serious turn off.
So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Saleen Jso.2645
I could give a lot of feedback, but just to keep it short, here are some highlights…
Positives:
-It was nice to have something new to experience on a regular frequency.
-I liked the Rox and Braham part towards the beginning of the season, it was the closest thing to like doing a Personal story.
Negatives:
-Story for season overall was not cohesive enough. It was hard to follow the plot. It felt like every 2 weeks or month, we were starting a new book, not just moving on to the next chapter.
-Way too much zergy events and content, fail rate often too high.
-Many rewards were not so interesting, meta achievements involved too much grind, get burned out of you tried to do them all every time there was new content.
Suggestions:
-I personally would enjoy more content and game play similar to Personal story in the future.
-If more people are needed, I would like to be able to have content I could do with a smaller group of persons from my guild.
-Give us more interesting rewards that include some choice. Example, maybe if I don’t want the new back item skin, then let me select a Black Lion weapon ticket instead.
Thank you
Hiya,
I have been roaming on wvw and noticed 2 rangers this past week using mainhand sword skill no. 2 to kite straight ahead in the same direction twice. What I mean is they run, kite straight ahead in the same direction they are moving. Then they immediately kite again a second time still keeping the same direction. I am confused about how they do this, because when I use the skill, first my ranger jumps backwards, not in the same direction I am running.
Can any help me understand how to do this?
Thanks,
-Saleen
Hello,
Can anyone recommend a BM build? I have never played BM before. Looking for something to roam with and be able to skirmish comfortably in solo 1-1 fights. I am thinking something tanky, with a lot of dodge ability and heals, toughness…? Assuming pet stays alive there should be enough sustained dps output to wear my opponent down. Any feedback appreciated, thanks!

Hi again. I got it this time but fought in melee range. Not sure if that is what will work for everyone.
Hiya, I was able to get the achievement but this time I fought in melee range. I am not sure if that is the trick.
Same problem, using same character always.
Hiya, I am experiencing the same problem. I am on Ruins of Surmia.
Hiya all,
Really fun match-up so far. Even though RoF is crushing us RoS people, we still have many good fights and not behind walls. I also found this amusing, RoF deploying the “Shock and Awe” strategy against our Keep, just epic!
GGS,
Saleen
Thanks all for the information. I was not aware of so much technical details. Ok if I am roaming solo in WvW or with just one friend, would it be fair to say using Rampage as elite skill a much better option? I have been trying to use the Vines to either keep my opponent at distance or from running away, but if it takes so much though I am thinking Rampage would be better. For my play style, I use longbow for range and sword/warhorn for melee fun. Thanks again!
Hiya,
I have been trying to use these 2 skills mostly in WvW. However I frequently see players just appear to escape from the in a snap, like blink of an eye. Can anyone please help explain the mechanics of how and when they work? Do certain classes have skills or traits that make these ineffective? Like a Thief just seems to go stealth an escape instantly or is it just really easy to just break free from the Vines with like just one 1 hit from opponent’s sword or dagger?
I don’t have much PVP experience, so please understand if I am asking a noob question here. Thanks for your help!

Hello,
I am looking for a casual guild in EU timezone where English is the common language. I am a mature player that enjoys pve content. I am level 80 ranger, but I am not so good at the higher level map areas on my own. So please be an accepting group with not too much pressure and hormonal male ego. My playtime is weekdays during the evenings and on weekends. So I am hoping there are enough active players where it is not too difficult to form a party around these times. Lastly, I am also interested in story dungeons.
Thanks for listening,
Saleen
I also feel confused as in what to do. What is the objective, what should be the player’s goals, etc…? With this event only being over a weekend, there should of been more information to guide the players. I like the initiative though from the GW2 team to make this weekend event.
Fresh Windows 8 Guild Wars 2 won't install

I have been having this problem also. It seems to have something to do with the graphics drivers that are installed. I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Win 8 approved drivers from Dell for my machine. Game runs now, but I have terrible FPS rate. Still trying to troubleshoot this part. I suspect the graphics drivers released from Intel/Nvidia for Win 8 are poor, bugged, have not been thoroughly tested enough, just having a lot of issues in general…
FPS rate decreased significantly after upgrading to Windows 8

Hi,
I have upgraded to Windows 8 and now have very poor FPS when playing GW2.
To trouble-shoot so far, I have uninstalled both my Intel HD and Nvidia graphics drivers. After restarting, I first reinstalled the latest Windows 8 approved Intel driver from Dell. Restarted again, then installed the latest Nvidia software suite. Restarted and still poor FPS.
Before I upgraded to Windows 8, I was able to play GW2 with graphics settings maxed out, all would run crisp and smoothly. Any help would be appreciated. My PC specs are as follows.
Alienware m17xR4 laptop
Intel quad core cpu 3.9 ghz
12gb pc ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 675M – 2gb video ram

Saleen
