Being part of a guild WvW squad isn’t a right. It’s not a guaranteed game feature. It’s something organized by a guild, and it’s the drivers call how they want to organize it.

When I run open, it’s easy to tell who is in ts or discord and who isn’t. WvW is a team game. If you don’t want to play by the team’s rules, the team has a right to tell you you can’t join them. It’s that simple.

To our deaf player, I’ve agreed with you before that requiring a deaf player to join ts is silly. You’d be better off finding a guild that is able to work with you.

But no one is entitled to join a guild squad. No one is entitled to join a pugmander’s squad, either. It’s the commanders call. They are taking on the responsibility for that squad. They get to make that choice. If I’m willing to squad kick guildies who aren’t on tag and paying attention, why on earth would I treat non guildies any differently?

It’s that simple.

I have posted in other threads that the change since the patch is significantly noticeable under certain circumstances. In general, these aren’t circumstances that impact me. But they legitimately impact a number of players and certain legitimate play styles.

I’ve tested it intentionally to try to understand the impact, and since there are a number of people claiming that “no one who legit plays should notice a difference”, I can only conclude that they must be seeing different behavior than I am.

Note: in general, I don’t have any issues maintaining participation under the new system. I still think it’s gone too far.

I assume the people that struggle with it are pve players not knowing what they can achiev without a tag spoonfed them.

Everyone will not have all the shinies. Only a smallb percentage of gw2 players will ever see WvW ranks over 2k to start with. There’s nothing wrong with making the tickets a little more accessible to low rank players – they still have to make it to rank 2k if they want to flaunt light tentacles.

And if they didn’t farm ranks back when you could do so in eotm or when you could buy wxp, they have to do it the long way now.

It hurts no one.

I had several instances over the weekend where people already on the map had outnumbered. They still had it after the tick, but newer people on the map did not receive it when the next tick happened.

In one case, I stayed on the map for several ticks. People who were there when the map went outnumbered had the buff, people who came in later never saw it, even though they were there for the start of the tick.

Based on that testing, the buff is bugged.

Additional feedback on this, again from a player who has never worried about participation or decay before…

Guild run last night. Many fights, much fun. Pulled back to spawn to adjust our comp at one point, because #mapblobthings.

People decided to take a quick bio break while some people were changing classes.

You guessed it. Decay started to hit some folks (including me).

This has literally never, since participation was introduced, been an issue before.

Yes, we were able to fix the situation quickly enough, but even so, something is definitely off about the way participation and decay work at the moment.

So – had a chance to do some more testing on my lunch break. I normally play in a guild group, so I don’t see the impact on smaller groups much.

tl;dr – Decay is way too fast now once it starts, participation builds up way too slowly.

Killed all the camp guards, 2 dollys, ran to hills to kill guards while waiting for RI, went back, and flipped a camp.

Flipped another camp.

Grabbed a sentry and two dollys on the way to nw camp from se spawn. Slightly into t4 participation at this point.

Stopped to play with a teef near the camp. Had a fun fight, but lost. Respawned.

Decided to hit home tower. Started building a cata. Ran to home camp for more supply. Came back, and got run over by a havoc team.

Respawned. Decay has now kicked in – and it’s moving quickly.

I was able to stop decay by killing a guard at south camp instead of rezzing an ally, catching it just before dropping below t3.

Would I prefer to be out roaming looking for fights?

Yes.

The unintended consequences, however, for solo or small group play aren’t good.

Yes, this was active play. Yes, I know my way around the maps, and this was on Alpine. I just wanted to see how participation and decay worked now. And, frankly, I’m disappointed.

Let’s keep the outnumbered change, but revert participation back to the way it was. It’s far too punishing for small groups and solo players.

PS – I’ve never had to worry about keeping participation up. Ever. Until this update. Whether playing solo, havoc, or full guild run. It’s just never been an issue.

Every map has Objectives that can be used to maintain Participation along every main avenue of traversing the map, even repairing any damaged walls along the way helps maintain Participation, this is no t debatable it is a fact with over 10 ways of maintaining Participation easily. Zeroing is not necessary to keep up Participation.

And again another player wanting to get rewards for not playing WvW lol wanting rewards while logged out even……

Please stop assuming what players want or don’t want. Many of us had the decay timer appear even though we were participating. I had a timer right after respawning after trying to take a tower (after downing a wall, attacking lord, and fighting one player defending it).

This is affecting players who plays legit while afkers during down times werent affecting anyone. This is the real issue here. There is no need to make fun of everyone for that.

If you were actually participating in taking the tower as you say you would have gained Participation by killing guards(located outside of he walls, on the walls, surrounding the lord), damaging the wall/gate, destroying any siege etc. you would not have been close to being in fear of losing Participation when you respawned, just saying.

The inconsistencies are strong here.

What people are saying is that, in some cases, decay appears to be buggy now.

I will test again tonight. But yesterday, my main was starting to decay within an incredibly short time. My primary alt behaved very differently…

The difference was a second patch between the two.

My initial reaction was based on the behavior I saw on my main account, which was not at all as described. So if that’s a bug that’s been fixed, fabulous. If it’s still behaving the way it was yesterday, I’ll open a support ticket.

For the next wvw event week I think it would be interesting if every character in wvw had one life. You die in wvw on that character and you’re locked out of WvW for the rest of the week on that toon.

It would make for an interesting week.

The new participation timer just blew it for me. You’ll literally start losing participation if you stop to break into a keep and it takes more than a minute to do so. Um, yeah…

I am suprised this bug is not fixed yet if a 3rd party addon (Arcdps) can fix it.
For people who encounter this bug frequently I definitely suggest installing arcdps (having it run with UI disabled if you dont want dps meter is good enough)

Lolwat that makes absolutely no sense (unless this “arcdps” thing contains malware in which case an ad like this makes perfect sense).

Well, given that it works, and the author has flat out said they included a fix for it it the code, I’m not sure why you think it makes no sense…

if you’re not rank 3000 by now, there’s no way in seven realms of oblivion and the gazing abyss behind it that you can complete the wooden chest in one week.

No need for the hyperbole. I finished Silver on an account with rank 780 in 6-8 hours of WvW by getting either 3 pips per tick (2 for rank, 1 for third place) or 8 with outnumbered buff.

Except when youre on a skritt server that is just active enough to never have the outnumbered bonus, but inactive enough to always fail, so im cursed with 1 pip per tick, meaning i have to sacrifice my entire working week for getting the wooden chest, and thats just ridiculously disproportionate

I have a level 150 ish alt on a server that’s often in third place. I can expect 3 pips at a time, one for rank, one for placement, one for loyalty. I usually get the wood chest at the end of the first nights guild raid.

I don’t see how getting wood on a low level account can take an entire work week. Where is my math wrong here?

At 1 pip per tick, that’s 500 minutes. Assuming that you only get one pip per tick the entire time.

500 minutes = 8.33 hours.

That’s a little over 2 hours a day for four days.

Do I think that’s too much time for the wood chest? Yes.

But that’s not an entire work week, unless you work a lot less in a week than I do.

The next week, you’ll get the loyalty pip, which will get you 2 pips a tick. So 250 minutes, or a bit over 4 hours. Now you’re down to 2 2-ish hour runs, again assuming only 2 pips per tick.

If i work all week i have an hour, maybe 2 in the evening. I dont always want to dedicate all my evenings to one game, much less one game mode. 8 hours on a weekend day is also harsh, i want to go out with my friends on the weekends.
In pve i can do bits of things, the rewards pile up.
In pvp i can do bits of things, the rewards pile up.
In wvw i can’t do bits of things because only complete things are rewarded and then reset.

Now that I think about, wouldnt it make sense for the pips to reset every 4 weeks with the matchmaking, rather than weekly? Just like the pvp track resets per season and not per week

I commend you for playing Real Life and Outside instead of WvW.

I would suggest that you pop boosters and work on rank up first, then. That will get you to 150, and two pips. Then a single week at four hours for the loyalty pip, and you can maintain wood at two ish hours a week.

Unless Anet decides to up the base pip game, that’s how the pip farm works…

They don’t seem to drop from players. I was trying to figure out why they weren’t dropping for me, and someone suggested killing npcs instead… Got three in about a 3/4 run around desert bl flipping camps and shrines.

If you do it right, while your gank classes don’t need to be in squad, they can provide a lot of support for the main force. But that often means being in ts and working with the commander, not just doing your own thing…

I’m all for using TS when you are running as part of a zerg but if you are roaming the outskirts and picking off the fat kids that couldn’t keep up, being in TS really isn’t necessary.
You aren’t coordinating bombs or following the tag (so you don’t need to listen for sudden direction changes, fake pushes, etc.) and your build should be self sufficient enough that you shouldn’t be getting locked down unless the whole enemy zerg turns to focus and blow a bunch of cooldowns on you. In which case you just provided a nice opening for your own zerg to hit them.

The reason for TS here isn’t to coordinate bombs – it’s so that you have eyes in the back of your head.

If you have dedicated gank, or pick team at your back protecting and picking up stragglers, they are seeing things the commander isn’t. And that information is often gold.

The veteran got thousands of ticket in the past three WvW Tournaments. They can rush for the new rewards faster than anybody. It is pretty unfair to the new WvW players.

Medical student graduates got years of experience in their past terms of schooling. They can rush into the industry faster than the high student school prospects.

My suggestion is anet should launch another three WvW tournament for us. I will be awsome.

No. ANET has already admitted that tournaments caused permanent burn outs (lengthening the duration of matches does that for most games).

ANET admitted that tournaments caused permanent burn outs but they didn’t show us any of the evidence. How can we believe that. Not even a population graph chart is given out. It’s a lie with the same kidding level of global warming.

Anet has a vested, financial interest in making this game successful and keeping it that way. If tournaments were creating stats that led them to believe tournaments were good for long term player retention, we’d see more of them.

Their internal metrics say otherwise. They told us what the data showed them. And they have a financial interest in understanding how players behave in game and what keeps them playing.

Any “evidence” provided could just as easily be called into question in the same way… “They didn’t give us direct access to the data! The data they have us access to is wrong!” and so on, as nauseum.

Each player is free to believe what they want. Just because they believe something doesn’t mean what they believe matches the data.

For the record, I tend to believe that Anet has a handle on their data. I just don’t think they are good at interpreting the player psychology that underlies the data the are analysing.

Data science only goes so far when dealing with human behavior. Understanding the behavior requires understanding more than just the numbers that show results. It’s all too easy to mistake correlation for causation.

It’s actually somewhat similar to fractals dailies. If I do t4 fractal dailies, I get all the daily chests. Because I’ve been playing them long enough to have the AR and know the mechanics.

Should high level fractals players have to grind out all the low level dailies, too?

How is getting a reward while playing a game mode you love grindy?

You don’t have to farm the same content over and over, waiting for RNG to bless you. You just… Play.

No, you aren’t going to have the shiny overnight. That’s OK. There’s more content and shiny in the game than most players will ever have time to complete. That’s what the word “massive” is supposed to mean.

Would I like to get to the weekly cap faster? Yes. But at the end of the day, compared to many other games, this is not a grind.

A commander is choosing to tag up. In their squad, it’s their rules. If the commander wants their squad in voice, that’s perfectly fine. You have a choice to join or not.

Not all voice comms are the same. Some are toxic, some aren’t. Please stop painting everyone with the same brush.

Play the way you want. Don’t join voice. But don’t be upset if that choice has consequences.

If you think voice doesn’t matter, then tag up and textmand. Set your own squad rules. That’s your choice, too.

Not all voice channels are the same. You just have to learn how a specific channel operates.

As for TS vs discord? When discord can support ccoms, it will be the goto. Until then, it doesn’t have feature parity.

Skirmish Pips Distribution Feedback Thread

last week I managed to play 3 sessions, that was worth 1 of the 4 wooden chests, which means no tickets for the leg.backpack.
Then all my pips got reset, if I play 3 sessions a week (several hours each) and I can’t even complete the wooden chest, then I might as well not play WvW at all, since the leg.backpack has become exclusive to people who don’t have a job and don’t have a social life

I play on multiple accounts, one of which is very low rank and gets two pips per tick usually. I play a total of sixish hours a week on that account (guild raids only), and I finished wood on it.

Are you sure you are doing enough in those play sessions to maintain t3 participation?

I’m OK with both the time gate and the rank requirement. I’m just a fan of less time to reach the pip maximum.

I’m OK with people not getting all the shinies day one and then turning around and complaining about being bored. There will always be content locusts… no game can possibly keep up with them.

Full disclosure: I am over 2k on my main. WvW is my primary game mode. Most weeks, I won’t have a problem making max tickets. This isn’t about personal gain, it’s about what I think would be better for the game mode as a whole.

Disregarding prime time, because that differs for people..
The current 175 is a huge time investment with anyone who isn’t ranked into the thousands. People with jobs and such are unlikely to even reach 175 tickets in a week regularly anyway.

As one of those people with a job, I whole heartedly agree with you. I think the pip requirements for max tickets are too high, frankly.
