Sadly, it’s all too common to have a match that could have been won by smart play lost instead by someone giving up.
What’s more fun, however, is winning a match at the same time a team mate is yelling at the team for being full of fail…
Guildies were reporting this all night last night.
Three or four players don’t define a server.
They do if they are the only one speaking. Guess what, they were the only one speaking.
Silence is acceptance.
I agree with you on many things, Finality, but not on this.
Chiming in to disagree, in the environment where a lot of this happens, just feeds the trolls.
I’ve seen insults and ridiculous chest thumping for the wrong reasons from pretty much every server I’ve been on or fought. Choosing not to wrestle with the pigs doesn’t mean I agree with them. It simply means that I choose not to get muddy with them.
I firmly believe the game is better when we respect our opponents and treat them that way.
Communication requires a two way street. Someone willing to talk, and someone willing to listen.
Three or four players don’t define a server.
Personally, I’d like to take the anti-server X forum peeps and isolate them off in their own little echo chamber.
My WvW fun depends on having enemies to play with. I actually prefer to like them. I enjoy friendly banter with the ones I know. Both that and good sportsmanship are good for morale, and they keep the fights coming, and keep them fun.
I’d rather talk about the things that engage a wide variety of Wvw players… what gets new folks engaged and keeps vets coming back (and it’s not always the same things, nor is one loud opinion the only correct one, no matter how loudly it’s shouted) than throw insults at each other.
At the end of the day, an empty battlefield is no fun.
Good info, Tyler, thanks.
The intended consequence: inform active Wvw players.
The unintended consequence: miss those players who currently aren’t in Wvw for some reason – whether it’s the map, current population balance, frustration over being on a linked server, etc. So your sample set is skewed.
Some people aren’t talking here because they don’t want to be shouted down, told their opinions don’t matter or are wrong, end up trolled in game, or otherwise be treated poorly. Remember that they exist, too.
And some of them already believe that their interests won’t be heard or paid attention to by arena net, or that being insulted or shouted down for holding a different opinion isn’t worth it over a video game.
Some of us are also glad they are gone. And don’t happen to play on bg.

Links changing on some so far unknown schedule is part of world linking. That’s what 80+% of the folks who voted voted for…
I think this has been mentioned, but just in case it hasn’t…
If I’m going to consider moving a guild, I’m going looking for a couple of things.
A welcoming community where my guild is wanted and is considered an asset.
Other guilds that will be good partners to coordinate with.
Community cohesion.
A place where multiple play styles are welcomed.
Good use of teamspeak and cc.
A place where we can become a valued part of the community.
A new world that I know is going to be moved around every couple of months isn’t going to provide that.

Lol the Anet guild has claimed things on bg, tc, jq and yb that I can recall seeing in the last few weeks, at least…
I’d like to see more information about plans for the future. What happens with a link change? how is it determined? Will it just turn into “farming time, bois, gotta move back to the guest attached to the host we want to play on”?
If so, it’s not a population balance solution, and really isn’t solving one of the major underlying issues.
It’s a bl issue for me.
Bump because it’s getting worse.
This problem was the worst it’s been so far last night – reset. And it seemed to start earlier than usual.
Maybe we should just call it “hard mode”…
I posted about this a couple of weeks ago. It’s still happening.
Xtd, when it gets bad, that’s exactly it – like the old culling problem. Always seems to start with the load screen delay, though.
Our primary motivation for avoiding running another tournament, is that at the end of every tournament we saw a permanent dip in the number of players playing WvW. Presumably this was due to players burning themselves out during the tournament.
However, we can still run a poll to see if the majority of the community wants another 4 week tournament, even if it might be bad for the long term WvW population numbers. Though even if ‘running another tournament’ won the poll, we’d probably hold off until we get the scoring updates in.
I suspect there are other reasons for that drop that are related to player psychology and not burn out.
Zoren, it’s been happening randomly to me since a couple of patches ago. Starts with the load screen on port bug (2 min load time), then the npcs not rendering, then weapons…
Seems to happen after about two hours of heavy play.
Anyone else running into slideshow time during large fights on t1 na blue map?
Not normally an issue for me at all, just started with the current matchup.
I was going to write up an actual, thoughtful explanation to the guys who were actually curious as to what the environment is like from the perspective of a female commander.
Then I read some of the stuff written above, and there’s no need for me to do so. It speaks for itself.
There is a good point made here. While there are some very loud individual voices on the forums, the actual WvW population has a wide variety of play styles.
Some play for fights only. Some for score. Some love to protect their homeland. Some want to invade and take other people’s stuff away. Some want to do that in small havoc teams. Some want to get 40 of their best friends together and storm the castle. Some think siege is an abomination, some think it only belongs in structures, and some think it should be fair game everywhere.
Catering to one play style over another too much will cost the game mode players. And without enemies, there is no game.
We reported this last night too. Blue able to port into red owned bay. Not cool.
It’s absolutely bugged. We sent in bug reports last night on it, and have asked folks not to exploit it.
I honestly wish we had a way to destroy friendly siege to deal with these.
I’d love to see Dhuum nuke those spawn trebs…
On the devourer race, the tunnel now glows so bright white it’s painful to look at. My whole guild complained about this during missions tonight.
Additionally, SAB floor panels are now a sickly bright luminscent green, also painful to look at. Any idea what’s causing this, and how to fix it?
Same thing happened to us tonight.
The problem with matchup threads is that there are just as many people who find them toxic as those who find them enjoyable.
Some folks want an environment with a lot of trash talk and insults thrown around. Some want a level of sportsmanship where you treat your enemies with respect, because there’s no game without them.
There’s a huge grey area in between those two perspectives, and it’s hard to know where to draw it.
This. Please fix asap.
Thanks for the rotation back to Alpine for a bit, variety is good.
Spawn trebs still work apparently, we’ve asked for this over and over again to be fixed. I’m posting a bug as well. Please address ASAP, some servers abuse this. Other servers don’t like cheating.
Thanks!
Absolutely please fix this. Using these or not isn’t a server issue, it’s a player issue. And some players, regardless of server, think invulnerable spawn trebs are cheating.
I tell my folks to leave duelers alone. We just move past them.
Start ganking my tail, however, and all bets are off.
YB is a server in transition, and has been for some time. There are folks on the server who want to fight even-ish numbers and have a blast doing it. There are folks who just want to defend “their stuff”. There are also folks somewhere in the middle.
It’s also incredibly disorganized.
So nothing that’s happening while so many changes are happening in WvW is particularly surprising. It will ultimately end up wherever it should based on current population, activity, coverage, and ability to compete.
Servers change as guilds, populations, and communities change.
Be interesting to see where it ends up.
BG has always been a sleeping giant. Why anyone is surprised that they woke up amazes me. When BG wants to come out in force, it does.
The stab changes have been good. Being able to have melee matter in a fight again is huge.
I’d love to see it given time to settle in, though, before more changes are made.
Personally, I want equal-ish matches, where there is a reason to push to win, and winning is a combination of strategy, tactics, and fighting ability. Where there is room for multiple play styles, all of which contribute to the game.
While I’m at it, I’d love sportsmanship, respect for the opponents who make our play style possible, rainbows, unicorns, and world peace (except when slaughtering each other in the mists).
Sadly, I don’t know think a full glicko reset will do anything but push the problem off a bit longer. Naithe has some valid points.
Had several people report load times of over 2 minutes when porting into citadel on green BL tonight.
It’s usually a second or two…
Red is hard to see against an enemy blob and particle effects. Blue is hard to spot due to friendly squad blue names.
While a lot of servers originally assigned meanings to specific colors (map, guild raid, scout, etc), often now it’s just “can we have only one tag of that color on the map?”
So orange, maybe? Or brown? Bright teal?
Also, the ability to change the tag color while leading a squad would be hugely helpful…
Y’know, we don’t have a game without an opposition. Maybe more folks should follow LoneWolfSpectre’s style and get to know some of the folks on the other side. Most of the ones I know are pretty decent people. But you’d never know that from the amount of propaganda that gets thrown around.
Don’t you also have to be on a Guild team?
I miss them as well. I used to keep them in inventory until I had a stack.
Now all that remains are broken ones…
Broken spoons are actually parts from broken sup catas…
It’s a way to recycle them!
Blackgate is very much alive, but a lot of guilds are either on hiatus, or simply only playing weekends, and specifically NA hours. There is nothing to really gain from ppt right now, if there was a tournament, or any sort of competition you’d see BG first. But there really isnt much of a point if there is nothing to gain from putting in time.
Most of us have lives, and have far better things to do than ppt uncontested. We love to fight for ppt. This dude ’ Torqued is a typical bad YB troll. They have lots of ppt guilds who actively recruit on their mapchat (like ROLL, FoW, and a few others) by stating things like ‘we are actively recruiting players to help maintain PPT, and defend structures’.. If you think I’m joking, head onto twitch, and see it for yourself on YB streams.. I mean if you have massive volumes of people with that mentality, of course you’re going to be first. The fact is that BG always wins reset, and if we had something to fight for, you’d see more guilds playing across different hours.
Lol The only YB guild I’ve ever seen with that recruiting message is DOC. The rest are just basically ts channel announcements.
I’d recommend paying for your own transfer. You can move to a server of your choice without any sense of obligation, and if you aren’t happy with your move, the people who paid for your transfer won’t feel betrayed if you leave.
I think there is a somewhat skewed sample of responses here. I wonder what the responses to the question of “what do you want first, stability or rewards? Population balance or skill balance? Oh, and here’s how long you’ll have to wait for the other one…” would be…
Fyi: the temporary workaround is to have a mesmer run to the other side of the barrier, drop a portal, and then wp back to portal your devourers in. There is also a route top the left the devourers can run through that requires a little back tracking, but won’t cause the transform to drop. My guild ran completed this mission using these options. Annoying? Yes. But at least it’s possible.
