Do NOT cave on Elite specializations. Everyone already gets access to the new weapon skills that can be used to further unlock the rest of the traits by PLAYING THE GAME. Unlocking your elite traits is no different than how you would progress new characters in other mmos. You get skills every other level by…PLAYING THE GAME. Just like in GW2 you get traits and skills by playing the game. You only need 40 HP…less if you prepared yourself for this expansion. Are you guys new to MMO’s? And once you unlock the mysteries needed to get to the HPs on your first character the rest of your characters won’t have to unlock anything.
.

Using the weapon at that stage leaves you with an empty traitline, for level 80 content (and harder content for HoT) that just doesn’t work.

I don’t mind putting in effort, but I’d rather put that effort into playing the game for masteries, the story and exploration rather than having to go out of my way to farm hero points if I want to play (a viable) elite spec.

It just takes a bit too long, 200 hero points would be more than enough. New characters would need to put in a lot of effort, spending a fair few hours unlocking it and older characters with map completion etc would need to do a little effort to unlock it.

That’s the problem. You want it all now. How does it take to long though when the expansion has only been out for 2 days? Relax and stop trying to rush. HoT’s not going anywhere.

Look if you really want to get it done fast just go do the Mad King instance, or EoTM and just buy all of the HP’s if you are dead set on rushing yourself through everything. But trying to get Anet to get rid of character progression thats been a part of GW since 2005 is just….no.

You only need to get the unlocks on your first character. The others can just go straight to the HP’s ( the ones that don’t involve champ slaying ) without worrying about whether or not you have poison mastery or updraft ect ect.

The problem is it is not progression, it is a flat out grind. Progression was getting to level to 80 in whatever game mode you choose, whether toming up through pvp reward tracks, or smashing zergs in wvw, or PVE content…. etc. While being able to play a class that is new and is viable for the level/area you are at.

Now at level 80 unlocking the new trait line (that is not inherently better, just a new way to play) at an excessively slow pace compared to prior trait lines you are left playing WvW or PVE with an extremely sub-par spec for a VERY long time if you choose to equip that line, thus forcing players to rush through and grind, grind, grind in a Ktrain, or do new zone, and again grind. I have to grit my teeth to do anything out of pvp/wvw/fractals/dungeons/event minigames, and would rather be able to unlock the profession reasonably, in a gamemode I enjoy. Is that too hard to ask? (and no ktraining through EOTM does not count as enjoying WVW)

Remember also many players have to grind on 8+ players, so they have to suffer through content they may not enjoy many, many times. Why not allow progression through just being able to play the game as you want? Because right now doing that you may have one elite spec unlocked by next year at this time if you don’t get bored of playing as the same old spec for that long.

The underlying assumption all the folks that discount the issue have is that: “This pve zone isn’t too bad, just do the long mastery grind once, then grind through the near impossible zone to navigate, do hero challenges, and then do those again on all your characters, don’t you just love this progression? Oh and by the way, screw anyone who doesn’t do the map completion stuff, they don’t belong on guild wars anyway because what I enjoy should be what they enjoy.”

What is a very long time to you? Expansion launched 12:01A.M Friday. Its Sunday. No one is forcing you to rush anything mate. You just wait to have it all unlocked now. I feel like the BETA weekends are the reasons for this; people got to comfortable with instantly having access to the elite specs and now that they added progression to them (just like every mmo in existence) its seen as a problem. Oh and it won’t take a year to unlock one elite spec lol. Im about 70% done with my Scrapper already through playing through one zone that im not even done with yet.

I have 9 level 80s. I only need the mysteries completed on my main. After that my other 8 will have easy access to the 40 HPs. I would never tell someone they don’t belong in GW because they don’t like what i enjoy. But you do realize that other people actually do enjoy seeing their character become stronger as they play through the game unlocking masters and traits? And you guys want to get rid of it so you can have instantly access only 2 days after the expansion released.

The problem with your group of players that say “all is fine” don’t realize than not everyone wants to go to the PVE zone, I have been commanding trains in EOTM because it is more bearable to me, but the pace, even while farming is mind numbingly slow, the thing is you get pretty much no progression playing through the game mode as intended. There also aren’t other options like a pvp reward track etc… out there, so really you are forced to either A. Go to a PVE zone and grind there, or B. Go to a WvW ktrain and grind there, instead of playing for fun in order to get the new play style that you want.

Any large period of time in a game that you are forced to essentially have a poor experience in order to unlock the new content to go back to playing the content you enjoy is bad for the health of the game.

I think you absolutely misunderstand the argument, and just come in saying nonsensical things like everyone else that thinks its fine, discounting the problem that it is, in fact a grind, and not progression.

IT all boils down to you wanting it all unlocked now. Just like everyone else who shares your view in this thread. You trying to have everything unlocked 2 days after release is whats making it a grind. You aren’t suppose to have everything unlocked so quickly my man.

GW1 was the same way. You had to go out and do quest to obtain skills or save all of your plat and buy your skills from a vendor. Everybody just wants to race strait to the end.

[Suggestion] Charr with GW1 posture

The only GW1 charr to stand upright were members of the shaman caste (mostly monks and fire elementalists), and they did so to appear superior to their warrior, ranger, and mesmer allies. They are what became the Flame Legion.

Yes true but clearly the charr in GW1 have different skeletons. I mean Pyre had a monk in his WB and he stood upright. I wish we could get it as well.

I’ve been hollering for these body types here and on Reddit since launch. I think armor would look so much better with that body type. We wouldn’t have to worry about the long necks and running on all fours and we probably would have gotten capes because honestly i think the charrs current body type is the reason why its not possible to have them.

Yeah, they look less evolved in GW2, than the ones in your pics, assuming the evolutionary idea is cat>humanoid cat?

They now look kind of like a missing link.

Not that I dislike them in their current form – I don’t.

But, they do look a bit like walking upright might still be slightly uncomfortable for them.

Its funny because charr’s body evolved backwards. They went from running upright 250 years ago to running on all fours today. Its weird. I mean did all the casters from back then who clearly have a different body type just die out?

GW1 = more build diversity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scourge.4317

Scourge.4317

The build diversity is the same in both games.
GW1 had more skills, sure, but the majority were underpowered and never even used in the first place.
GW2 has less skills, but makes up for it with traits and expanded gear compared to gw1. If two builds used the same skills/utilities but had different traits/gear, those two builds would be played very differently.

Additionally, gw1 and gw2 were made by completely different people. Don’t let the ArenaNet name fool you. Almost everyone who set the foundations of GW1 had left the company by the time GW2 got into the picture.

Its just that for the last almost 2 years we have been using the same skill set with traits either giving a buff or a debuff to them. In the first game even though there were meta builds your skill bar still changed. You could have different skills anytime you wanted as long as you had the skills unlocked. I dont have a problem wiith the current system but being able to change up your skill bar whenever you wanted and have near infinite combinations was great. That skill system with the different ways you aquired them was somethjng other games back then didnt have.

Why no GvG ANet?

in PvP

Posted by: Scourge.4317

Scourge.4317

Anet launched the game saying there would be no GvG in the game. I think they’re probably looking at it now, but it was well known before launch that would not be part of the game.

I can’t say why that is, but we can theorize that in Guild Wars 1, though there was a hard core population of people into it, most players weren’t. They didn’t want to spend resources designing something up front that most people wouldn’t use, even though some were passionate about it. As I said, that’s just a guess though.

All of which is odd as they also indicated that they wanted GW2 to be an e-sport, something that is poorly supported by the current implementation.

This is the one thing that made me scratch my head with Arena net. I felt like they ditched all of the different pvp modes from the previous game for the chance at forcing gw2 into being an E-sport with the one conquest mode. Its not exactly easy to see whats going on on screen when the impact effects cover up entire fights and everyone is playing an Asura.

E-sports start with the community….or atleast I always thought it did. Maybe Im wrong but I dont see how the constant push into making gw2 an Esport is going to work. The typ of people who generaly play mmorogs could care less about E-sports. This isnt a MOBA or an RTS or a fighting game like SF3rdStrike or the new Killer Instinc. I just dont get it. Still love everyghing else about the game though

kitten ed if you do, kitten ed if you don’t. How Dare Arenanet try to get people interested in their up coming QOL patches, THE NERVE!. This isn’t new, all game company’s do this even with small updates to get their player base excited. Whats wrong with that? Its not their fault that YOU put to much thought into it. These up coming changes are exactly what the game needs. And unless you are a developer and know exactly what goes on in the offices at Arenanet how can some of you say this should have been rolled out a long time ago?

Its like people will find anything to complain about. These are QOL updates aren’t even done yet so how about we all wait before we start screaming that the sky is falling.

Oh and i kind of doubt ESO will have any impact on GW2. But that’s just my observation after leveling up a few characters in the game to try out the pvp which is good but not enough to keep the Elder Scrolls fans going. I don’t think most Elder Scrolls fans will be willing to fork over 15 a month for a game they can’t heavily mod.

ANet's silence is why so many people leave.

I agree. I haven’t completely left yet, but I’m on my way out.

Their silence and lack of communication is a core issue. The neglect of dungeons and focus on a crappy living story is another part.

Lack of communication? This the only MMO where devs actually get in game and play with the community. I have never seen devs care so much about their game as Arenanet does. You have entire CDI threads with the devs talking with the players trying to better the game. They pop up in every now and then on random threads just to let people know they are listening. Why people keep bringing up communication as a problem is beyond me.

I’m not one to complain to much. Ive been with Guild wars since it released 9 years ago. But this kinda stuff is a bit annoying. When we do get skins that aren’t tied to the BLC it always seems to be 3 pieces of armor and not a full set, and with weapons it seems to be only available to half of the classes.

The first S.A.B released with weapons missing and it took a full year just to get the other weapons added to it. And with the recent worm world boss only a rifle was added, but when it comes to the BLC they seem to be able to make weapons for every class. The Ascended set the only full set to not be sold in the gem store. I wouldn’t be surprised of they put Obsidian armor in the gem store now.

I miss mobs in pve that actually had builds and used their skills like actual players. Also, if I remember right, they ran out of aoe. Still can’t understand why the mobs in gw2 are stupider than those in gw1.

Also I miss the assassin.

And the armor the assassin wore. Why was medium armor in gw1 so much more diverse, while in gw2 its just trench coats.

Also I miss factions and nightfall. I also miss missions and hard mode missions.

Finally, didn’t necro minions look way cooler in gw1 than in gw2.

Yeah i liked that the mobs used skills that were available to players except for things like Spectral Agony ect ect. I also liked seeing the Aura that surrounded them letting you know what class they were. I could see something like that happening with silver mobs if Anet decided to bring that back way down the line. There are class NPC’s in the mist that fight like you would expect a player to…….kind of.

Anyways we will see what direction Arenanet takes the game in after Scarlet’s story is wrapped up.

GW1 had a great and long, involved quest similar to what people have said in this post for obtaining the mini black moa chick. Having that mini was a status thing like a legendary weapon is in this game, and it required a lot of, well…. take a look:
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Black_Moa_Chick

Yeah that was fun. I also enjoyed getting my Black Widow from the Underworld. I wish Arenanet continued quest like that with ranger pets. And i wish they would stop trying to force GW2 into an E-Sports game. But that’s getting off topic lol.

I agree with those of you who want a nice long interesting quest tied to legendary weapons. Maybe…well i wish at least, that with the next legendary weapons comes a quest that makes them more than just pretty pixels.

Interestingly enough, somebody over at mmorpg.com (a fairly popular MMO website) just recently started a thread asking players which MMO most disappointed them. Not the worst game, but the MMO that least lived up to player expectations for it and least fulfilled it’s potential. Tons of players posted their choice, and GW2 was the runaway winner … even beating out SWTOR.

MMORPG.com is a joke. Please don’t mention that website lol. Its full of bitter Doac, UO, AC and Sandbox players who are waiting for some magical dev to create their dream MMO. And any mmo they don’t like is deemed a failure. There are people on that forum who have been dogging GW2 since it came out even though they don’t play it anymore.

The game definitely needs some work and i can agree with those who are upset about how it seems like Arenanet got rid of most of the things that made guild wars……guild wars but the rest is so over the top its ridiculous.

You guys keep saying that, and I’m not trying to defend that site in general, but I’ve seen FAR more objective comparisons of of various games there than I ever have here. Here’s an example … this one discussing ESO versus the other new games coming up:

http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/403814/page/1

Do those posters sound like trolls? Do they sound like bitter players? I see much less hyperbole and rancor from those posts and a lot more objective commentary than I do from the one you just posted.

As far as I’m concerned, there are valid reasons for “dogging” GW2. The players who post here now are players who came to GW2 for a reason. The players who are still here griping about GW2 aren’t those who just like to sit back and kitten about a game for the hell of it. Those players are long gone. The ones who are still here kittening are players who WANTED this game to be better than it is and are disappointed that it isn’t. There is zero evidence that anything is going to change for the better (don’t you dare quote the CDIs in rebuttal … you’ll just look foolish). The best we can hope for is more of the same lame LS and dysfunctional PvP. There is nothing “over the top” in being unhappy about that.

I’m not saying GW2 is above criticism. That forum does have its moments with good conversation. But after being a member of that site for almost 6 years ive never seen the amount of exaggerated nonsense being said about MMO’s on any other website that discusses mmo’s.

Hmm, that’s funny, I don’t recall making this complaint at all…

Your previous post was about being a casual saying it was impossible for you to complete the tequatl like events. I’m not sure why you cant do it when all you have to do is guest to other servers. Ive completed it on my home server Ehmry Bay and on other servers as a guest. Its not impossible for anyone to do unless you are way below the level range of the area the event is in.

Lutinz is right. People wanted hard content and Arenanet created it. Now some want to say that its to hard. If they make it to easy people will zerg it and say its to easy. I’m not sure what they can do to please these people. The worm boss will be in game permanently so players have all the time in the world to learn the fight.

I shake my head also when i look at what the Warrior and Theif are able to do with their bows. The Ranger in this version of Guild Wars are tied to their pet. This was not the case in GW1. If you wanted to go ham with pets you took skills from the Beastmastery, and if you wanted to do anything else you could throw some points into expertise, wilderness survival or marksmen and still be a asset to your team. You didn’t even have to think about having pets in GW1 as a ranger.

Why GW2 Releases Content The Way It Does

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Scourge.4317

Scourge.4317

The first Guild Wars game was a CORPG that also didn’t have a subscription fee, also had a cash shop, and still released expansions/new campaigns as a way to earn money.

It’s not the B2P model, it’s the people managing it.

Crystin Cox is ArenaNet’s current Lead Monetization Producer since March, 2012. Has past experience at Nexon and NCSoft. Changed dyes from account bound to character bound during that time too, pre-launch.

Kristen Bornemann is ArenaNet’s current Head Development Director since August, 2012. Has past experience as a Software Design Engineer at Microsoft Game Studios. Also has experience at WB Games.

These people never worked on GW1, that explains a lot. Not factoring in the 2/3 founders that left ArenaNet on 2009 and 2010 (Patrick Wyatt and Jeff Strain), it’s clearly how the game is being managed and not the B2P model itself.

There’s probably more factors to add in towards ArenaNet’s shift in philosophy, but throwing quality out the window over quantity is not the correct decision in my personal opinion, especially to increase sales.

What…..why. I’m sure shes not the ONLY one calling the shots right? :*(

Getting tired of threads like this. The moment Anet mentions Scarlet everyone feels they need to make a thread laying out in a carefully thought out post saying why they hate her. We get it. Anet gets it. Scarlet wasn’t a particularly well written character for whatever reason.

What Anet has done in the announcement the OP is adamantly calling out is the light at the end of the tunnel everyone else is calling for. The problem the OP can’t live with (and I can’t imagine why – this is a game after all) is that it’s going to take four more updates.

I don’t care for Scarlet much like the rest of us however I’m pleased to know there’s a light up ahead and it’s approaching fast.

You’re getting sick of threads like this & people are already sick of Scarlet. We get it, Anet loves Sylvari & overpowered fan-fic Lolitas, yes. I’m sorry, but as long as something dumb is in the game, people should be free to moan & complain. If it’s coming all that fast then you shouldn’t mind a few more months of people explaining in painful detail why she’s beyond repair.

I don’t want a “light at the end of the tunnel” for excruciating stories & characters, I want to hear that that something good is coming. I want to hear that Tengu are being worked on, I want to hear that housing, a real cosmetics system, guild halls, capes, Cantha.. all that stuff.. instead.. “Hey! So Scarlet is gonna be around for quite a bit longer! We know she’s awful & people would rather hear that Tengu & Cantha are upcoming but we love her so, whatever!”

So much Elonian Wine in this thread. Its only 4 more updates. And honestly things are starting to get very interesting if you’ve been paying attention. I kinda think people are just hating Scarlet now because its the cool thing to do. Hell I’ve seen brand new players hop on the band wagon. Two months worth of updates and shes all wrapped up yea?

Maybe she’s actually awful? I guess that’s just not possible. People who don’t like her (even though it’s such a huge amount) they must be wrong because… why exactly? like I said before.. some people think JarJar binks is a great character too.

People are posting as if their opinion about scarlet is the only one that matters and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn’t know what good story telling is or don’t know any better. Just kitten all the people who actually enjoy it because obviously they don’t know any better. Arenanet should just listen to me me me and scrap the whole project because i hate Scarlet!!11!

That’s basically what i see in this thread (that should be in the suggestions forum) and a few others.

Scarlet needs to go. Now.

because there is no real significance of scarlet to the game other than they chose to use her they could have easily just had a rouge tengu rampaging and killing things but the tengu themselves couldnt bring it down and needed help but they chose that god awful bush that needs to be pruned and turned to mulch

Why would the Tengu do anything like that? Not even a rogue Tengu would do something as big as what Scarlet is doing.

Scarlet needs to go. Now.

To be honest what urks me even more now that I think about it, is if they wanted to put out glorified reskins, they could have done it with some of the awesome town clothes and people would cream themselves.

Instead, they went this route.

Yea i know a lot of people who would love to buy the town clothes being worn by NPC’s Hell they need to make it so you can skin the Costume brawl armor and hats/shades to combat armor.

But this game is all about nice looking skins, so what they do is p2win, for example in another game you have to grind for armor with better stats, and devs adding in game shop best armor for $.

Its just a skin stop with the pay to win bull kitten. And yea i think its pretty messed up that Arenanet is going this route. I mean look at what they were able to do with GW1 and all of its awesome armor and now we get this kitten. Who gave the O.K for those 3 armor sets? It makes absolutely no sense what-so-ever.

Actually Scourge, Pyre did not use the model on the right. For the charr, there were about four different models, I think. You had the charr Fire Callers/Wardkeepers, Ash Storms/Chaots, Axe Fiends/Bladestorms/etc., and then finally Stalkers.

Pyre used a modified Stalker model.

Current charr models mostly followed up on Pyre’s designs with some tweaks here and there.

Thanks Leon. Yea i didn’t realize that many different body types. When i saw the hunched model they looked the same to me. But clearly Pyres model is not the same as the charr in the right of the picture i posted. It would still be nice to have that tall model though :p.

I also had a problem with how my Charr theif looked. It was my very first character and i ended up rerolling human after pleading with customer support for some kind of race change ( i was that desperate ). I went back and played some original Guild Wars and was reminded that there are Charr that stand tall like a human with huge manes and then there are the ones we have now.

Why weren’t we given both body types? To me it seems like a lot of the armor would look so much better on this body type since they stand upright like a human.

Those upright charr look infinity % better to me than the humped over charr with the long necks.

Yes, they do look better. And armor would look better if we used that model ( in my opinion ). Its 2 very different body types not just one. And i understand what others said about charr not wanting to look like flame legion but we do have Cof flame legion armor which is a slap in the face to all charr.

Btw that charr on the left is Roan Fierceheart who is a member of Pyre Fierceshots warband. Pyre used the model on the right; the model all charr use now. Neither of them were a part of the flame legion so it wasn’t just flame legion that stood tall.

Atleast give the magic user that body type…or something..

I don’t see many old characters. Yours looks great though. Whoever hes about to beat must of really kitten ed him off. Hes reaching all the way back to Hoelbrak for that swing :p.

9/10 because of the old character and that incoming beat-down that’s about to happen in the pic.

Here is my biker Engineer. If the Charr ever lend their vehicles out to the other races she will be the first to get the 3 wheeler.

Where did you get these numbers? Or did you simply make them up in order to make your post look “more important”?

GW2 was announce and advertised as a casual-friendly game. People that bought it expecting it to be catered to them are just silly. The vast majority of gamers are casual, and all in all it is quite likely that they will make way more money catering to the majority rather than a tiny minority.

Right, you must’ve forgot the part where GW2 is considered unsuccessful by the industry. Meanwhile MMOs that cater to hardcore are raking in money.

lol please post links where this is being discussed because every website i have visited pretty much say the opposite. You would fit right in over at MMORPG.com where the “hardcore” angry armchair developer’s dwell.

Well there is a consumable that gets you to level 20 instantly. Buy a char slot..use that consumable and craft the rest or something. May take a week at the most..

The lore behind that is that, back in GW1 most charr were casters, and standing tall was commonplace, but due to the secession from the Flame Legion and advancement in science, the charr discovered that a crouched, more ready-to-pounce position was more effective in battle (most likely because their enemies are so short). Charr casters still stand tall when casting their staves, so it’s nice that the lore of it was taken into account when animating models.

Really? I…i did not know that. I will have to investigate. But still. It would be nice to have the option to have your Charr stand tall like the ones in the pictures (and have that huge mane). Back on topic though ; Charr armor could def use some more love. T3 Heavy obviously got the most attention.

I also don’t get why Charr have to be hunchbacks. It’s just like WoW where half of the Horde consists of humanoids with deformed spines and just like WoW still didn’t update the prehistoric models of the older races I doubt the devs here are going to do anything about it.

Charr animations aren’t that bad. Their animations aren’t as clunky as a Norn’s. Except sword and axe maybe. Especially Necromancer axe autoattack looks incredibly stupid.

I’m just annoyed the achievement rewards look great on every other race but Charr.

Well i kinda think it had something to do with their running animations. I’m probably wrong but that’s just my opinion. They had two body types but went with the hunchback instead of the ones posted in the pictures i upload. It would be awesome to have that huge mane and to stand tall like that.

Honestly, I think players are focusing too much on the achievements and not enough on just playing the game.

Achievements have become the entirety of the game. Go try to kill the bosses in Orr or ask for a group to do Arah Story Mode. You won’t find anyone because they are all outside chasing balloons. ArenaNet is moving piles of populace to new locations each week while leaving the majority of the world as empty as Kessex Peak from Guild Wars 1.

The release just dropped, it’s not surprising you don’t see players doing pre-existing content when new content is now here. Everyone’s checking it out.

Outside of this, I certainly do see people killing the bosses in Orr.

Yes, it just dropped, I already have 9/16 achievements and I’m finished with this update. I have no need nor desire to log on until the next content update. Even then, I will log on only long enough to grab the new back item or perma-toy and repeat the cycle over again.

And in regards to the Orr bosses, your server must be far more active than mine. Orr is dead for me, no pun intended.

Awesome, good for you. Take advantage of the no subscription fee and only play when you like it. There’s something every two weeks so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to see if something grabs your interest. Whatever’s fun for you.

See that’s the kicker though. It’s not fun. I haven’t had fun in the game since this whole living story started. The core game was brilliant and then it just died with the introduction of the Living Story. I log on for new content in hopes of finding something fun but it never happens. The Living Story killed my game.

LIVING STORY IS OPTIONAL. If you weren’t having fun since it started why make yourself play through it all? That’s a very odd thing to do. There are other activity’s for you to do but if nothing else interest you then take a break and do something else with your time until something you like gets added to the game.

First off, the entire game is optional. Please, stop using that lame duck ‘optional content’ argument. You only make yourself look like a Thackeray or Bookah or whatever it is you humans hurl as insults.

Second, I am forced to play the living story because that’s where the people are. I can’t play the core game any longer because there aren’t enough people to complete the content. Do you understand?

Breaks do not help. As a 7+ year WoW vet, I can tell you, each break you return from only makes you hate the game more and more.

As it stands, I cannot complete my game because of temporary living story content.

Is that suppose to be some kind of troll? What exactly is the living story keeping you from doing? because people are still running dungeons and still doing events out in the open world. WvW hasn’t been interrupted. I personally have been able to do the dragon events and regular events even in Orr.
