I said this back in beta. The Quickness boon was ridiculous.
It was essentially a double damage modifier, because you could pump out damage twice as fast at double animation speed.
Instead of attaching all kinds of fancy debuffs to it, they should’ve just been on the ball, realized the 100% effect was overkill, and reduced the effect to a more sane value. Back in beta, noone would’ve complained. Even the 100-blades greatsword warriors were admitting quickness was silly. Now we’re half a year in and everyone’s gotten so used to it that the kneejerk reaction is to stomp the feet and cry like spoiled children.

I’m surprised nobody noticed the BIG thing at the top of the list. Preloaded placeholder models. THIS COULD BE A BLOW AGAINST CULLING.
After all, culling was caused when too much info on characters was pushed through the line at once, causing a backup, causing culling. Placeholder models essentially says “Yes, there’s something here. We don’t know WHAT but it’s something.”
So you may not know the composition of the enemy force, but you’ll at least know there’s 30 of them about to zerg over your little squad of 2.
I believe these placeholders only work for loading in players your client already knows exist, but which your PC hasn’t finished loading yet.
They don’t work for loading in players your client doesn’t know exist, which is the real culling problem.
It’s hard to show placeholder models when the server hasn’t even bothered yet telling your client there’s something supposed to be there in the first place.

I find it it hilarious that people think Elementalists have amazing heals, when in fact they tend to have such small healthpools that it just seems that the heals are restoring massive chunks of HP.

Why do people keep calling it “Stealth”? These abilities are as anti-stealth as you can get.
Dancing in front of your enemy and then vanishing in plain sight is not stealth.

It’s the Tier 1 curse.
Once you become #1, you realize you’ve pretty much ‘won’ the game as far as GW2 WvW goes. There’s no reward for getting there, and there’s no reward for staying there. There’s no rivalry, because even when by some fluke of the rendering system you can see your enemy, you often don’t even have a clue who you’re fighting against. Threads get closed when a minimum amount of drama shows up, so there’s no real metagame rivalries either.
All in all, the better you perform in WvW, the sooner you realize it’s all for nothing. It all feels rather pointless. Battle fatigue kicks in, guilds die and the server drops out of 1st position, allowing other server to take over and realize the exact same thing.
Apparently Arena Net is working on some kind of progression system for WvW. Maybe that will give people a bigger drive to continue playing. Fortunately the lack of subscription fees makes it easy for people to come back and try out the new stuff.

I don’t understand why all the staff projectiles are so slow. They miss way too often imo. Really easy to dodge. Spells like Air 3, Earth 5, and all the auto-attacks.
Fireball and Waterbolt as well. Who needs dodge when you can just strafe sideways and completely avoid Elementalist staff autoattack damage.

The problem here is that people aren’t playing world vs. world as intended.
They roll around in WvW solo in their PvE gear, following some dude with an icon, and they think that’s what WvW is about. It isn’t. You’re just a zergling chasing a carrot, and any form of coordination will beat you.
Removing things like portals is just one more step towards turning this game into zerg vs. zerg, and that, my friend, is when the hardcore people will truly leave.
Face it, you roll around solo, you’re going to get your face slapped all over the map. Deal with it, or do the sensible thing and join a coordinated WvW guild and start playing WvW the way it was meant to be played. It’s like realizing all along you’ve been riding a bicycle race without a bike.

Personally, I’d love to see SFR get to Tier 1.
Drama strengthens communities and guilds, and communities and guilds are what keeps people logging in everyday, it’s what keeps MMO’s from dying.
Too many companies try to make their game dramaproof, and it shows. MMO’s are fueled by drama.

Thieves are ruining pretty much everything. The class is pretty much broken, if you ask me. They’re in need of a thorough re-evaluation.
I love how they are ruining PvE, Dungeons, World Events and all forms of PvP. You sir are correct please make a separate thread so we can ALL bask in this “game-breaking” opinion.
No point in making another thread, because the issue has already been discussed to death. The thief is a crutch class that allows terrible players to excell and believe they are gods. The real tragedy is that it overshadows the thieves who are actually good at their class.

Servers tend to be ‘struggling’ in WvW for a reason. Most often it’s because the guilds there are simply not organised or not interested in WvW. Going to such a server will not accomplish much. Sure, the sudden active playerboost may propel you upwards a couple of tiers, because you’ve got an advantage against the other struggling servers there. However, when you get to the zone where servers have active, organized playerbases that participate in WvW, you’re going to hit a brick wall. Your organized stransfer force will not be able to deal with that, unless you either transfered with a boatload of people, or you transfered from NA to EU (or vice versa) to take advantage of offtime capping.
Transfering to a struggling server, somewhere at the bottom of the tier brackets, is just PvP self-pleasuring. You accomplish nothing, but you totally screw over the few people who were enjoying WvW on those servers by steamrolling over them.
It’s better to transfer to a server in the third or fourth tier brackets. These servers tend to have existing forces and alliances that you can join. You need to look for potential. Not just the prospect of easy matchups.

There’s a maximum of 150 players per server per map. If your server can’t field these numbers during primetime in a tier 1 matchup, then it seems to me that the problem lies with your server.
“Zerg” is just a crappy excuse.

For those major guilds who dont like RUIN on blacktide its easy to handle it, just go back to far shiverpeaks, desolation, or any other lower tier server.
It’s not that simple, unfortunately. I think most of us have kind of decided to let WvW be for a week and play the new PvE event. After that, we’ll see what happens.

I said it in back in beta. Quickness is absolutely clownshoes. None of the nerfs they applied to it have handled the main problem of quickness, which is the fact that it essentially doubles the DPS output for its duration. It’s crazy, it’s insane, it’s absolutely ludicrous and it’s puzzling to say the least that quickness actually made it into retail.
Imagine if classes had a skill that temporarily made their abilities deal 200% damage. That’s what quickness is.
The fact that the developers have constantly ignored the issue and tried to bandaid it with irrelevant nerfs like reduced healing, makes me believe that quickness was someones pet project and they realized it was ridiculous, but they couldn’t bear to ditch it like they should’ve.

Well the good thing is that this may hopefully inspire guilds from other servers to start a project in order to compete with Blacktide, in the same way that project Blacktide was started to compete with Desolation.
Maybe a French or German superpower server?

I have no clue whether Ruin transferring is true or not, and obviously I won’t be particularly happy if this turns out to be true.
However: might I point out that 2/3 of current BT WvW guilds transferred too? There’s a bit of double standards going on here…
Oh boy, here we go.
There’s a difference between transfering to a server with potential (eg. RUIN transfering to Desolation) and strengthening that server to help it become successful, and between transfering to a server that’s already dominating and doesn’t need the help.
Project Blacktide was started to be able to compete with Desolation. It’s kind of bizarre that the people that were constantly encouraging us to become competitive with Desolation quickly jumped ship and started trolling the competition when they realized they were going to lose.
Server transfering isn’t a problem in and by itself. It’s the reasoning behind it that can be a problem.

Do you really think free transfers are the problem? because in my opinion, they are not. They’re the solution, and that’s the reason they’re still available after all this time.
Do you think a 3 month limit per transfer would stop people from transfering away from a dead end situation? Because I honestly doubt it. Say you are an extremely dedicated PvE person who enjoys roaming dynamic events and beating them through cooperation, but you’ve rolled on a server where everyone is constantly in the mists. Would you stay and gradually get more and more bored, or would you transfer to a server community with likeminded people?
Again, they could make it a ‘once in a lifetime only’ deal, and people would still take it.
I’ll admit that the transfer system is flawed. It allowed and still allows people to do things that are detrimental to the game. however, demanding free transfers be removed or severely limited because you want to force people to play the game your way is just egoistical.

I honestly don’t know what went on back then in GH but having fought them two weeks in a row, they don’t fit the description you gave, in fact it’s quite the opposite. Plus considering your post is a long whine about how you carried everyone but GH was bad and that drove you to move away, and laughably to one of the top ranked servers, I’m more inclined to believe you are full of crap, but you don’t really have to care about that, what you need to start doing is to develop some kitten manners and stop saying crap about GH cause for a server with such a disatvantage they do quite well.
Tier 6 isn’t really that representative for how well a server holds up in WvW. It’s kind of the drop off point where you either face servers that are underpopulated, don’t care about WvW at all, or view it as something to do for monthly achievements or rainy days when you can’t find a dungeon group.
The rest of your post is just filled with false statements or out of context observations from someone who needs to put in their $0.02 when they have no idea what they’re talking about.

Trying to prove why Blacktide is a tier 1 server and why GH is many tiers below simply doesn’t interest anyone here and frankly i don’t care about that also.
You seem more than happy there and that is what matters.I simply don’t get why you guys come back at a post that isn’t about your guild nor you server.
I don’t hate or disrespect any of you, I just don’t like it when my guild gets brought up in a negative way by people who have no idea what they’re talking about.
I hope you guys all have fun in WvW, because at the end of the day, having fun is what really matters.

i bet its quite easy to be in t1, especially when you’re carried there by russian guilds.
and you know, if you leave BT there wont be much of a difference, since majority of FS guilds transferred there not so long ago.
It’s these kind of posts that just tick me off so bad. People who have no idea what’s going on, take posts/threads completely out of context and then hop on the hate bandwagon just because they heard some hearsay crap and take it for facts.
The guilds that left Gunnar’s Hold were part of the core, like it or not. They were guilds that showed up every day to WvW in an organised manner and drove the war effort forward. Were they the only ones in WvW? No, obviously they werent. But random PUG zergs or small guilds that play inconsistently have far lesser impact than experienced WvW guilds that are all in contact via teamspeak and strategically move the pieces across the board in order to best deal with the situation.
These guilds left because they got tired of trying to convince some narcist that it would be better for everyone if they also cooperated, with the narcist constantly declining because he didn’t like “people telling him what to do”. They got tired of being the only consistent organized force on the server, and having to rely on PUG zergs and fair-weather commanders who only showed up after these guilds worked their fingers to the bone to gain a score advantage, and who whined, complained and/or left whenever the going got rough.
We noticed the situation on Blacktide, realized the potential and moved after everyone unanimously voted ‘yes’. Blacktide wasn’t a winning server. We lost the first matchup. However it was the most fun matchup we experienced up until then, simply because of the organisation and the fighting spirit. Things we missed on Gunnar’s Hold.
Blacktide is an extremely WvW focused server. Noone on Blacktide is carrying anyone, everyone is cooperating and we all realize we wouldn’t be anywhere without eachother.
That’s what WvW is about. That’s what makes WvW fun. And that’s why Blacktide is in Tier1 and why Gunnar’s Hold dropped 3~4 tiers when the organised guilds left.
Look, I’m not mocking Gunnar’s Hold for being in a lower tier. You guys are just not as committed to WvW, and that’s fine. But realize how damaging that “meh” attitude is to people who are committed, and that it can be a reason for people to leave.

Actualy the drama queens are only few guys from CIR who left gunnars hold a month a go. If you look closely in every topic about gunnars they are here bashing, no matter what is about, even if you open a topic “Hello Gunnars Hold”, one of the first five post is one of theirs.
Example this post, is not about his guild or even their server… yet they are here, lol. Just some attention seekers, apparently they where the “core” of the server and now they represent the blacktide server, the entire server… but I dont think the blacktide knows that.
I have friends on Gunnar’s Hold, man. It used to be my home server until a couple of weeks ago. Ofcourse I’m interested in what happens to it.
And no, we don’t “represent” Blacktide. Well, we’re representative for Blacktide, but we don’t represent all of Blacktide, if that makes any sense.

The “core” was ripped out when those 6 main WvW guilds left GH Slips, as we said then it’s only a matter of weeks before the few remaining guilds find their own servers and KISS moves on to somewhere where they can be carried again.
Though they were quite vocal about hunting us down and destroying us, I expected them to transfer to Desolation. Even Snort said a prayer to his dark irish gods every night before bed for such a miracle.
A different continent is quite funny though. Wannabe Ruin Mk2?

Running the risk of sounding like an elitist jerk, but we kinda were the ‘core’. Whatever that means to you or anyone else probably differs, but meh.
I still have friends on Gunnar’s Hold. They say the server’s been doing just fine in WvW, though of course it dropped a couple of tiers following the transfers of a large part of the INT alliance.
I don’t know how active KISS was in WvW, so I can’t say what the impact would be. I remember when we still played on GH we rarely saw them. Occasionally the odd random KISS guy running with a PUG, but never in guild formation.
Whatever, though. I wish Gunnar’s Hold the best. Though I pity whatever server is going to be swarmed by KISS, unless the KISS leaders learned that an alliance runs on democracy, and sometimes you have to take on for the team/server. Saying outright that you’re not going to be anyone’s kitty, and that you don’t appreciate people expecting you to stick to a plan. Well… they have a lot to learn. Let’s leave it at that.
I also imagine a lot of KISS PvE players are going to be disappointed when they find out there are barely any Americans online to join their dungeon runs during Euro prime time.

That depends on how you define a vague term like ‘best servers/players’.
ArenaNet did so. They created a set of rules, and the current top servers are the top servers because they adapted to and managed to excell within that set of rules.
And that’s not just because of ‘nightcapping’ and what not. Server allying is also a reason why some servers have an easier time to rise up the tiers. It’s why there are so many national servers in the top tiers. Two national servers can and often will ally against the third server, giving them an advantage.
Again, it’s all allowed within the rules. Saying it’s not fair or cheating is like saying a football match is rigged because the enemy scored the winning goal with a header, and you find that cheating because it’s called ‘football’ and not ‘headball’.

Not only is it the best downed state, but it’s easier to put an ele into downed state than any other class. Elementalists are now speccing downed state- you see them running into 1k blades laughing just so they can use this OP junk.
Anet, either remove mist form, or make it harder for us to down ele so they can’t use it so much. Seriously, this game.
