BG dropping to t2 was just an unfortunate roll of the dice this week for them and will probably be back in t1 next week. But the fact they changed all t1 this week to full and BG are now open, I suspect some manual changes have been made. The algorithm never adjusts this fast.
Servers get relinked every 2 months. The next one is mid/ late August. The sudden decline of YB is a sad victim of what happens when a server implodes basically at the start of the 2 month window. :/

Most serious wvwers left want to fight. There are still those like mentioned above that want to ppt and win the match, even though at this stage winning means nothing but two extra floaty chests. The actual prize for winning needs to be significant to actual get people trying to win on most servers.
But those floating chests obviously prove too much for some people and they have to bandwagon to the winning servers.
In all seriousness though, it saddens me that server pride is dead, I’ve never moved servers and don’t ever plan to but I know most don’t care. It’s a really tough problem to fix. Server moves were a new concept to me when starting this game as my old mmo you chose a server and that was it. So everyone knew everyone and the community was great. After I’d say 5-6 years yes population declined so they merged servers into permanent pairs which then allowed more years of fun. But it would be just a band aid fix in a game like this. Plus if they were to take away transfers having offered them in the past that would just cause anarchy.
People voted for the linking, they voted for the frequency of re-linking. They didn’t vote to have T1 servers unlinked and to have a 7th place server without help and a 1st place server with help. I just want to play on an even field.
The 1st place server that you are talking about in NA Dragonbrand. Yeah we have people with alt accounts on Blackgate and Tarnished Coast. Even with being paired with the other server, people report 2 or 3 server map queues at times while we only have a map queue of 15 in EBG…… (cut to shorten quote)
Just a pure case of numbers and overtime don’t always win in every situation, some type of skill has to take come into the equation.
So from this massive anti TC post all I got was. We got sick of fighting. So split up to ppt instead.
Every server blobs, everyone bandwagons. The sudden fall of YB resulted in an exodus of people jumping on the IOJ link with db. Same thing happened the first link with ET and bg. In fact some of the people from ET moved to IOJ. No doubt if a shuffle happens again and DB/ BG get locked but say JQ stays in T1 then people will jump on that link. People want easy wins and to be in t1 for population.
It’s a tough problem to fix, that’s why monthly instead of bimonthly link shuffles would have been better imo. I do understand that is a lot of work on the devs part though and they did say that. They do however need to change how often the population algorithm updates status, because right now it can be gamed and by the time it locks a server it’s already too late as a bandwagon has happened. Or sometimes it doesn’t even lock servers that should be. But even if it locks a host server it still leaves a linked one open.
In the case of DB suddenly becoming overstacked, I think was just an oversight on the devs part. They removed the links from t1 servers probably thinking BG/TC/YB would remain in t1 for the 2 months, not anticipating the implosion of YB and the swift movement of DB into t1. Then there’s the random movement of JQ up also with a link in t1. I know JQ are being stomped in t1, all I’m saying is I don’t think with this set of links the devs intended to have linked servers in t1 at all.

The trolls are getting out of hand, I don’t understand how someone could want to win a game that bad. On top of this they still allow food/ siege to be thrown on tactivators so that’s another type of trolling. This one could be fixed easier.
This always bothered me that they never addressed this. Inconsistencies between 2 skills that do that same.
However if it is deliberate I suspect it may be because of the sharing aspect of the trait. Taking say 25 might from 1 enemy and giving it to your whole team essentially seems a bit much. But this could allow thief a more important team role that thieves are lacking being a more selfish class.
I do hope it is just an oversight though as it would be nice for it to function as we expect it to. The sharing range is rather small anyway and in its current state it only really is useful as a strip, I think most would like the might stack steal but that opens another problem with power creep since everyone farts might like it’s going out of style.
How about. If you are in combat you cannot open your glider?
This would stop people jumping off cliffs to escape dying and also make the fall buff in desert still useful. Of course if you’re already gliding and enter combat after you’re safe. They’ve done it with reviving people.
Then again you would also have the really big drops where you leave combat mid drop since they are so long so I dunno what they could do to fix that.
Every poll anet has done people have complained over wording. I’d say this poll is the clearest one they have done. It makes perfect sense. If you’re not choosing correctly you can go and change your vote.
This is just because a bunch of people aren’t happy because the vote it going against what they want. So people naturally grasp at straws. Also this should be in the wvw section no?
Literally just had a fight with one of these. A thief on BG. It’s so laughable how little damage the condi’s do without additional pressure. I just kept clearing and /sleep tbh. I walked away and he kept trying to no avail. Even during an RP walk away. He then got bored as I saw him stop/ appear for a few seconds and then a quick sic em and he literally panicked as I saw him trying to HS into the BP over and over trying to stealth. I only wish sic em was an aoe reveal like the scrapper one as that would have made it even funnier.
Yea it’s pretty bad they can stay stealthed perm. But they aren’t a threat unless you actually hang around and spam skills when the confusion is on you, which is the main dmg dealer of the build.
This guy was running with the main zerg also so no idea what he actually contributes to fights in a zerg setting with this build.
I think what they’re getting at is how teleport skills interact with other skills. E.g on thief I get caught inside DH lb 5 skill. I use shadowstep to get out but at the location I port to I’m still knocked down.
Same for the trap that you have to cross to take dmg. A fair few port skills trigger the effect as if you walked through even though you didn’t. It’s like they coded the teleports as invisible walking paths. So the game sees you as technically walking to the target location instead of just actually teleporting.
Effect seems to trigger on other skills too like line of warding, static field and other skills designed to trigger when you run through them. It has been around for a while but I agree does need a fix as you can end up wasting skills trying to escape that should allow you to.
The problem isn’t condi builds as they are perfectly viable. It’s the amount of condi application that happens in relation to how much cleanse people have. Some classes can apply it way too fast for a cleanse to cover. E.g on druid I usually wait for more than usual before I enter caf to cleanse. So i’m not wasting it. But literally 1 second or less after I’m loaded up again instantly with the same amount I just cleansed.
If people could outcleanse condi application that would make those builds useless which would be bad, so yes some overlap needs to happen. But the amount applied maybe needs toning down so people aren’t killing you in seconds instantly again after you cleanse their first burst.
People just hate thieves… Or any class for that matter that they die to. What’s happening right now is a mixture of 2 things.
1. People still in the old mindset that a thief on the team is a loss.
2. Thief finally got made viable again after years of being gutted with nerfs.
The two conflict yes but that’s 2 different types of haters. Right now in the pvp forums people are raging about thieves mostly because they are dying to them. So my question is now, how long until the nerf bat again? Nevermind the fact you can sneeze at us and down us if you get caught.
Which is the root problem I think most hate. We’re hard to catch, hard to lock down, can reset a fight if we want. But honestly we need all that because of how squishy we are. People just aren’t willing to learn how to counter certain things and that stands for any class. So would rather spew hate.
What’s going to happen is what always happens. People will cry over a non threatening thing on a class. Next balance patch they will destroy this build or the class. Thus forcing them to run only one viable build.
Thieves have been gutted patch after patch, finally they’re useful but people aren’t happy about that. Even when they are running a *gasp * non meta build. It’s almost like some people want all classes to be shoehorned into running only 1 build ever so they don’t have to consider a counter to multiple things in their build.
Honestly with this condi meta right now, if you can’t cleanse the stuff from this build you have bigger stuff to worry about than thieves.
The weaknesses of this build are quite glaring. Yes it does catch some people off guard but in all honesty if you know how it works it’s really easy to beat.
My main is thief, I have used this build. Things I noticed from playing it, your mobility is impaired, cc will destroy you if it catches you. Being kited or ranged will make your life difficult. If you trait and pick utilities to counter some of these weaknesses you limit your already weak condi dmg application. You literally are relying on bleed, a bit of torment and the occasional poison. I’d say your biggest damage dealer is the confusion on steal every 20+ seconds.
I got called a troll by a thief running this very build when I was on my Ranger. I was literally not attacking him, I would let him apply his condi burst then would insta cleanse it and heal. Basically if you have any type of condi cleanse or sustain you will out heal this build. Plus it helped that I knew the build.
Another tip, they really can’t evade forever. It seems so but bad players will burn their resources within 20s and will try to retreat. Better players might last longer about 40s or so but depending on pressure they will all pull back to recover a bit, which is when you need to strike as everything will be on cool down or low.
The staff thing is another thing entirely that I can’t comment on as I’ve been destroyed by some in 2 hits but some I’ve killed in 1 burst.
Just something i’ve noticed some servers doing. I’ll probably get called out etc for bringing this up. But Just wanted to suggest something.
When some servers are assaulting objectives, once they get inside, they are throwing lots of food around tactivators which makes it extremely hard to click or use the slotted upgrade. It really is poor sportsmanship to be doing this even if it is meant to be a war.
Maybe have the area around tactivators even just a tiny radius not allowed to have siege or anything thrown on it by anyone. This would make it easier to click and allow servers counter play to blobs taking stuff. After all the last minute saves are some of the best fights in the game.
Yes I know you can tab target etc but when there’s like 10 useless foods on top of a tactivator it makes it really hard to select it.

The daredevil elite skill does not show your finisher when executed. It has been like this since launch of hot and doesn’t seem fair that function gyro gets to have the players finisher, whilst this skill does not :/.
So no more rewards for doing daytime in verdant brink?
One thing that can help. Please allow commanders to choose if their tag is visible to everyone or not. This will benefit private guild groups running. It will reduce tag watching. I know this is a much sought after feature.
I noticed when skinning my longbow on my ranger that if you auto attack the glow from super weapons vanishes then reappears over and over as if you had stowed the weapon. This seems to apply to the king toad and storm wizard skins also.
The glow on my thief for the shortbow seems fine when auto attacking and I don’t have a DH to test the longbow on to see if it’s just a ranger thing.

Could you please comment on the fact that what you are saying is in direct conflict with what “Michael Henninger” “Game Support Lead” said just before?
He clearly stated “Pet Kills & Macro Looting Excepted” i.e. if you’re just using your pet and auto loot, this doesn’t apply to you, only if you are doing more than that.
Can you confirm that what he said was incorrect or did I misunderstand what one of you said in which case I would ask you to reiterate.

I assume this is the result of their meeting. He is “Game Security Lead” so I imagine he’s just as important as support lead.
Basically the three rules. Don’t get caught doing all 3. You can let your pet loot for you, just don’t meet all three criteria or you may get action taken against you. “May” because obviously they don’t have eyes everywhere.
If anyone chooses to find loopholes around the 3 rules they can do, and they do exist. But they won’t be getting posted here.
Also expect to see “fixed bug where auto loot was preventing afk timeout” in a patch notes in the near future.
You say it doesn’t need merging, but really it does. It’s still regarding afk farming and I’m sure the mods are tired of moving threads.
What I do however know is this post sprung up literally within minutes of you getting very angry in game about being followed/ friended by someone in this spot. Who actually wasn’t afk and was chatting to people around him. So he technically was actively playing the game just like you.
I was talking to a ranger that was stood in front of these guys he was just killing the mobs they were, getting tags on them. He was happy about it as it just meant he could press 1111 get tags and get bags whilst the farmers were helping kill faster. Not impeding his mat hunt in the slightest.

There is a large discussion going on here about it. Some for, some against. Nobody is right or wrong. What we can agree on is that it needs clearing up. Plus don’t be intimidated in the thread I linked. The witch hunters might jump on you for saying you’ve done it, but this is just a case of something being interpreted differently.
Just to clarify, auto-casting a skill is not keeping a person from getting timed out. I have sat in the same place for 4-5 hours just letting my minions kill stuff and have never gotten dc’d. No auto attack, no macro, nothing. Never even given a warning that I would be timed out. So that argument is pretty much out of the window. So the only thing I can think is the mastery auto loot moving drops into your inventory are somehow whats causing lack of timing out.
This. Either the mastery or the sheer act of entering and leaving combat as the ai attacks.
Only sure way to test this is to get someone willing to sit and watch that doesn’t have the autoloot whilst letting their pets / minions put them in combat for an hour. Or can you turn auto loot off in settings?
But then again probably best not to for fear of being wrongly accused of using 3rd party software.
The way I see it. Anet should not even be issuing any suspensions or bans regarding this until it is cleared up. Too many people are throwing different things and thoughts around which is confusing people. We know it is thought to be wrong/ dishonest. But other than a 3 year old post we have nothing saying it is not allowed. Pair that up with the 2 responses from a GM a month ago that implies it is allowed. Regardless of if it was a reply to one line or the whole post. It can still be interpreted as such. This just adds to the confusion as these players might genuinely believe they are breaking no rules.
On another note, they need to reevaluate how they detect 3rd party tool violations. Because I’ve got friends that in the past have been suspended for this when they haven’t even done anything. Some that are only days into the game so have no knowledge of any mechanics. I imagine it’s just a mass reporting that flags it and they just do it. Imagine how that can be abused say in a pvp match where people get extremely salty.
I wish I could wear a tophat or the ringmaster hat with this ;-;. Head wear with outfits please anet make it happen.

A program that is not provided by anet themselves. E.g Autohotkey, GW personal assistant , overwolf etc. Things like that.
They aren’t against 3rd party tools in general just ones that allow you do do things in game that you shouldn’t be able to, e.g a key that does multiple things, teleporting around a map.
They say it’s not equal to permission to afk farm. But they also have not said specifically that no you cannot do this.
So right now the guy above has a suspension for using in game mechanics that in the links provided have been said are ok to use. Said mechanics are NOT 3rd party tools.
The devs have made a clear statement. Your disagreement or refusal to accept it does not somehow render their statement less clear.
They are fine with it. Just accept it and move on.

No they didn’t. They said that letting your minion/pets kill for you is fine. They said nothing about it being okay to bypass the disconnect timer in order to stay online when away from your computer. That was actually stated as being against the user agreement.
So based on your last statement, if I were to bot by porting across the map to various nodes then people have no reason to be upset because it has no effect on them?
See the afk system still kicks you out if you have a skill on autocast afaik. What is causing the bypass is the mastery autoloot which frankly nobody but anet can fix and is not fault of any players.
These farmers are just using the autocast feature which is a feature in game given to everyone. Porting across a map would either involve teleport hacking which is something you can’t do without 3rd party software. Or a macro that performs multiple functions, which if you read the sticky that anet provides at the top about 3rd party stuff, is against the rules. They allow a macro to perform 1 function and one function only. But even said none of these players are using macros. The point i’m trying to make is that you really can’t compare porting about to someone just setting a skill to autocast and only that.
They apply everywhere except in pvp. I suppose they could make it so they only apply inside wvw but I feel a method of giving them to wvw players so they can use them in pve should they choose as a reward for helping their world in the mist war.
They should rework the buff so it doesn’t vanish completely. It should be a reward for wvwing since all the effort is coming from the wvwers that often never even go to pve zones. Not sure how they would go about this. A way to give the buff to those that wvw more frequently but not those that don’t even give it a second thought. Any ideas?
I second this open all thing. Make it so that it stops opening when your inv get full. The boxes in boxes of bags in bags thing is ugh… Me and my friend make a joke all the time calling the game Inventory Wars 2, because 9/10 you are fighting the sheer number of boxes/ bags filling your inventory. xD

I see it as a bit silly on some skills and others it looks fine as I feel like you’re channeling the magic through the staff into yourself to conjure certain skills.
You want silly looking though look at ele with scepter. Just go do a lightning auto attack and see what i mean. It is completely facing another way whilst it comes out your hand that is holding the weapon…. can’t unsee it.

. It’s making normally dead areas of the game more populated. More friendships are forged etc just from doing a JP with people. The struggle is shared ;-;.
For those that hate JP’s they always have the other dailies.
They need to make it so that if a map populates again after the empty notification flags, it cancels the closure of the map. Just adding more time on the end of the closure can still screw a bunch of people over doing events etc as it ultimately will still close :/.
Yea, I wanted the super finisher for the longest time. But due to working away I missed SAB the first few times it happened then had to wait years. But you can buy other finishers from the TP now too.
I figure having my super finisher go off at the end of the skill would make it more epic -.
Then explain punishments for exploits? Just because the game lets you, doesn’t make it legal.
Whether ANet will do anything about it or not is the question for AFK farming.
Punishment for exploits is for people doing something like glitching etc to give them an unfair advantage or breaking mechanics. e.g Teleport hacking to win in a pvp match etc. These “afk” people are not breaking any game mechanics. Nor are they gaining any advantage because as I stated earlier you can make far more money actively playing the game than afking.
What has been said is that yes the current system allows this type of game play as an unintended side effect. Yes they are aware of it and they do disagree with it. But they also said that to fix this would require a design change on their end to the game. So take that as, for now they can’t stop people because there’s no way to tell who is afk and who isn’t. Because as it stands people are just using basic features such as auto cast and the auto loot mastery which are available to everyone, not by exploiting, just by owning the game. So they don’t want to punish innocent people in the process.
Please merge all the afk threads into one because anet have already addressed this issue and people seem unwilling to search for the other threads.
I put my previous point back on the table. Why does this bother so many people? Just ignore them and play the game/ have more fun than someone who is afking and not playing the game to its fullest.

These threads are getting out of hand. The devs have already made a statement on this. Basically if it’s using the ingame system and nothing else then there’s not much they can do. That’s not a, yea ok go forth and afk farm quote by them. But more of a, we don’t agree with it, but we can’t penalise someone for using what we gave them in the game.
If every passive kill by a pet was punishable then we would have no Rangers around ever. These people don’t even make as much money than if you’re actually playing so I dunno why everyone is so up in arms about it. Play the game, have fun, make more than them by actually playing and occasionally draw mobs by them if they are bothering you that much ;3.

This, 1000x this. I saved up gold to finally get the finisher I wanted. Due to my playstyle I use the finishing blow more than an actual stomp. It would be nice to see my finisher appear for it. The engie function gyro has this so please, please make it happen

This also makes me wonder, does the DD elite count as a stomp for bloodlust in wvw? Since it doesn’t use the players finisher.
I’m happy for the people that missed the Alpine and got to experience it again. But for myself it is a sad day. I spent 90% of my time in gw2 on the desert bl’s and enjoyed them a lot. I am saddened to see the same old bland map return that I got so bored of. I understand this is just my opinion but since everyone else is giving theirs.
The past few weeks the activity on the DBL’s at least on my server match ups were extremely high. Fights everywhere. Lots of fun. So from my experience the maps were far from dead. The thing about this whole “the majority wanted alpine” it’s all just opinions again. What we got was typical of any internet culture. The happy people stayed quiet. The disgruntled people shouted out in protest, so you only saw angry people. Perhaps yes more people happy with the new maps should have spoken up, but everyone knows, if you have a product you’re happy with how often do you leave a good review? If you’re unhappy how quick are you to leave a negative review?
The population was already dying before HoT due to stagnation. Once this nostalgia bubble pops we’ll be right back where we were pre HoT. I just personally hope they get the technology sorted to have a weekly rotation because 3 months at a time is just far too long to keep each side of the argument miserable.
I am aware that a rotation was planned, but I do wish anet would aesthetically update the older maps, ebg included. Keep the layouts if you must but please update the textures/ models etc. But also on the other hand please update DBL so that the towers have strategic value as I truly think that plus a means to get across the map faster were the only remaining problems. (maybe skritt tunnels that you unlock – for holding things/ like bloodlust but for tunnel access/ befriending skritt – yes more pve but it would get you across the map and cause some fun fights over who gets the tunnels)
I left my WvW guild today after spending a few hours on alpine as im unwilling to dedicate as much time as i normally do in wvw to the dated maps. Time to explore the other aspects of this game. At least until this whole mess in general gets sorted. I know people won’t agree with what i’ve put. Some will get angry, but frankly as this whole thing shows, you can’t please everyone. I’m just voicing my opinion, and i’m not here to argue

Want to start by saying well done anet the merges etc have made wvw really fun again

Now here is a concern of mine. Since the merger some queues don’t seem accurate. Mostly on ebg. If you enter it you’ll be stuck at a certain number, it won’t count down, you stay at it until your queue suddenly pops. Also the time you enter doesn’t seem to matter compared to others.
E.g one of my friends entered the queue for ebg, I was on the bl then our guild lead asked us to queue for ebg 20mins later. So I join it 20 mins after my friend had. I’m in position 30. My friend who joined it earlier is 26. Stuck at 30 for like 10-15mins I suddenly get in to ebg. I ask my friend, he’s still at 26. Then another 20 mins pass and he finally gets in, even though he was waiting much longer than me and before me.
Just wondering if there is a bug with it, that is falsely detecting numbers and position of those waiting.
My second concern is the detection of people afking. Too many people are remaining in a map, even when not playing, just macroing their skills etc just to fool the afk check. They do this for fear of getting stuck in the bugged queues, but this is then making it even harder to get in to certain maps especially for commanders. You can literally walk by our spawn or keep and you’ll see like 5-10+ people using the same skill every so many seconds. These people will be there for hours. I feel this is unfair on the people actually there who are playing.
I love the new wvw changes as a whole, I’m just concerned about these two things atm. It doesn’t really effect me as I mainly play the bls but I’m just thinking of others and what it could do to communities.
Every server siege humps, you can argue till you’re blue in the face but every server is the same. There will always be the people that would rather jump on an ac etc than fight. No matter your server. Does it matter? No. But people seem to delude themselves into thinking that it actually means something by name calling and going “qq that server sits under siege”, when 9/10 said person has been caught doing the same at some point.
Just keep it on the cancer forums and play what little is left of our beloved (dying) game mode.

I know what I say will upset some people but here are my thoughts.
I would hate to see the work put into the dbl go to waste as they are truly beautiful maps. I’ve had some of my best fights on them and they aren’t bad to navigate once you learn.
What I would say though is perhaps change it so that holding towers gives some strategic advantage. Like in the old bls you could treb garrison from the north towers etc. If not moving the towers maybe introduce a buff of sorts for holding them that makes capping keeps easier/ harder (if you’re the holder of the keep.) This would force people to strategically think about taking a tower to assist with the siege of a keep.
Either way, I vote for keeping the new bls as they offer more variety, they just need some tweaking. The Alpine bls are rather bland in design and I don’t think they should replace the new things for the sake of nostalgia. Ebg is also bland by comparison since hot and I believe it needs tweaking or a remodel. Actually make smc a castle and not a glorified keep used as a supply dump. But that’s less important.
I don’t know why a private tag isn’t a thing with the new Squad UI. It would really help in wvw with private guild raids and it would stop tag watching.
I agree. The ele elites are some of the worst in the game imo with the longest cooldowns for what they do. Blocking or reflecting projectiles would help you be less of a target in tornado or even adding another skill in the form to add to your storm that can reflect etc. Or reduce damage and make it like plague form where you take reduced damage from attacks.
Overall though I would like to see them finish off skill groups, not just for ele but for all classes. Why is there no elite signet etc ?
This is something I’ve been saying about how DD should work. Make the dodges baseline on DD in a drop-down box or fkey and changeable out of combat. But make the damage/ def buffs stay as traits. This way you could have lotus dodge with the 10% damage reduction or bound with condi boost etc. It would allow more variety to builds and people wouldn’t have to wait through HP grinding to start using what makes DD unique.

The Eotm supply at bl spawn can’t be picked up. – I assume this is because the supply colour appears different like we’re blue this week and the barrel is red.
The marked buff doesn’t seem to work as intended on newly flipped keeps. When we flip our keeps back it sometimes marks us and says blue is tracking you …. when we are blue. This makes enemy mesmers harder to find in the vast keeps.
When defending objectives, especially when behind or on walls players are taking damage from skills when not in the red circles or through the walls from skills that should be obstructed.
Shadowstepping problems everywhere. -
Thieves have always had the no valid path errors in multiple places but I’ve noticed a lot more in the new bls. On the tops of walls and elevated flat surfaces. I was fighting someone on the small bridge at the front of the eastern air keep’s west gate (the one over the water) and I couldn’t shadowstep/ steal once along the flat surface. Even when right next to the person it kept saying no line of sight.
Dolyak bugs going to fire keep. -
I’ve already posted in another section but figured it would be best to post here. The dolyaks are bugged that go to the fire keep. The north one takes lava damage on the flat floor not in the lava and almost dying before making in to the keep. The southern one does the same but it also path finds over the lava directly instead of the bridge and 8/10 never reaches the keep at all dying just before the portal. I watched these dolyaks for about 30 mins to confirm this.
